I'm not even very Irish, I don't drink beer but I still really liked my meal here. Good prices, nice and clean with friendly people who work here. I got the Sirloin special for ten bucks, how can you beat that? We also had the mini sausage appetizer which I really liked. I topped off my meal with a cherry slice and went home happy. Plus, the Irish gift store next door was closed when we got here for dinner. My wife is Irish and loves that kind of stuff so that saved us a bunch of money also. Overall, a good night.

My family and I have been coming to this warm & welcoming restaurant for many years. They have great food, wonderful service and an authentic Irish atmosphere. This is the kind of restaurant I hope is around for many years for my children to take their families to.

Since moving away, it's been a long time since I've been to the Ashford House. On a recent visit, we had dinner. It is worn and shabby. Silverware was dirty and fruit flies were terrible. Usually a sign of a bar that's not kept tidy. Cream of chicken soup was more cream than anything. Irish eggrolls were greasy. At least the corned beef was still good, but my Rueben was soggy. All in all, it was such a disappointment. Years ago, it was a place we celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and held baby showers.

Went here on a Monday, with a friend for breakfast. 9am, about 6 cars in the lot - I wasn't sure they were even open. During the week - maybe the weekend is different - this is the 70+ crowd. Nothing special to say about the atmosphere. Service was good - coffee was refilled without having to ask. I had the blueberry pancakes - average. My friend had the cornbeef skillet - average. This is not a place I would make a special trip to - it was just average.

This was one of the worst restaurants I have been to in a long time. The Ashford House needs Robert Irvine of restaurant impossible to save it! I ordered the lamb, it was cooked so much that it was incredibly dry. The broccoli on the side was cold and not seasoned. Another in our party ordered the pork chops, also incredibly dry and tasteless. The server was rude and did not care that the food was terrible. Please do not go to this restaurant!!

Corn beef hash is my favorite breakfast food and this place has the real deal. Not out of a can bitter mush. I wish it was a bit more creative but at least it's not garbage. If the coffee was a little more robust this place would have me back for every breakfast. Very clean and friendly. Breakfast well done!

Let me start out this is NOT A ONE STAR REVIEW, ok it is a 1 star review, but its not a 1 star for the quality of the food, the service we received or the comfy cozy atmosphere of this lovely establishment. It's a 1 star because YELP says Eek! Methinks not. Which is how I now feel about British/Irish cuisine, its blah, its tasteless its gravy put on mash potatoes done 12 different ways (this formula of repeating 2, ingredients and calling it 12 different things has worked for Mexican cuisine, but not traditional Irish I'm sorry. ) I wanted to give this two star, but YELP calls 2 stars "I have had better" I don't think there can be better. And before I go further let me preface this with IM IRISH so I'm ripping my own people I guess... well I'm a quarter Irish so only 25% of my being. From the other reviews this is quality food and I don't dispute that everything was well done and the place is extremely nice and makes for a nice private place to relax at, but after ordering our appetizer Bangers and Mash which was sausage in a gravy on top of mash potatoes, then eating a shepherd's pie which was ground beef seasoned and topped with mash potatoes, I found I couldn't even tell the taste difference anymore, I would of leaned over and took some food from my spouse but her meal was roast beef guess what covered with gravy and served with mash potatoes. It pains me to ruin the avg on this fine establishment, but I must give it a 1 star as Methinks I not be going back for traditional Irish cuisine here or anywhere again. Sorry Ashford house.

This was a pretty tasty choice for a post-Christmas brunch with the fam. I didn't choose it. I didn't even know where we were going until I folded myself into the back of my brother-in-law's Scion TC. But I always enjoy some brunch, so I was happy to go along. Six of us piled into a round booth, seated fairly quickly after studying the place a little. It's not huge -- attached to a small grocery store -- but has a very Irish theme, and a small pub-style bar complete with dartboard. The menu is extensive and Irish themed, with everything from black & white sausage to Monte Cristos available, and the usual assortment of pancakes, omelets, sandwiches, soup, etc. I went with a veggie omelet but added Irish bacon, just because, and it came with toast and "Ashford potatoes" aka hash browns (cube-style). TON of food. My omelet was enormous and I took half of it home. The potatoes were well-cooked, but not overly seasoned nor quite warm anymore. Oh well. The Irish soda bread I got as toast was delicious. I snagged a couple spoonfuls of my husband's cream of chicken soup (very creamy) and he also got curry sauce on the side for his fries, which I snagged some of as well -- it went nicely with my Ashford potatoes. The service was quite good, the waitress very friendly and checked in frequently to refill drinks, bring anything we needed and so forth. Usually when we go out in the Tinley/Orland area, it's with family, and this was a great choice for a family brunch, so I'd happily suggest it for a return trip.

What a delicious meal I just had at the restaurant! I had a the fish and chips which is breaded cod and it was D licious. We had Candy, a great server and she was excellent! I definitely will be back at this place :-)

If I had to describe Ashford House in one word it would be "average". The food was average, the prices were average and that atmosphere...you guessed it, average. I will say this though, the place was super clean. There wasn't a speck of dust anywhere. You can't say that for a lot of places that are in the same style these days. I'll be back when my Irish mother is feeling nostalgic, or perhaps for a sandwich at lunch.

breakfastrules.blogspot.… That was a very special Christmas breakfast. Thanks to the Ashford house for accommodating us. (I know that's never easy.) Overall, this was a good breakfast. I was particularly pleased with the Gaelic breakfast. As someone who had similar breakfasts over in the UK for a week, I was struck by how accurate The Ashford House prepared theirs. Kudos to that. I'll probably go back for more blood sausage. Sasquatch and Breakfast Scout Frank really enjoyed their skillets, while Wizard Bear Rick was not so keen on the Irish bacon. (Maybe we should stick to American bacon?) Brent was not thoroughly impressed with his crepes. I had a bite of Yetti's and I thought they were good. But there was a lot of nuts in them; I could see that getting old. One disappointment was the coffee. It was a bit bland. We breakfast supremacists would like our coffee to be tasty and strong. How else are we going to stay awake on the drive home? Overall The Ashford House in Tinley Park gets a good rating of 3 out of 5 Brent faces.

This is our go to restaurant for family dinners. There is a variety of menu choices so everyone is happy. The meat and fish dishes are delicious. We were there today for Mother's Day and had Karen as our waitress. Our meals were not skimpy with soup or salad included in the price. My sister and I had the salmon which was really good. My brother and son had the steak which was cooked as ordered. Three of the seven at our table took home leftovers. The staff is very accommodating and the owner usually comes to the table to ask you for input. This is a great neighborhood restaurant with a friendly staff who appreciate your business. If you go for breakfast you will not be able to eat for the rest of the day.

We eat here fairly regularly as my sons have become addicted to their fish and chips. I have to say, these are probably the best fish and chips I've had in a long time. The batter is light and not overpowering, the fish is perfectly seasoned, and the chips (fries) are great. Great food, great relaxed atmosphere, and wonderful staff.

A great place for a proper sausage-and-bacon brunch. We showed up here late on a Sunday morning . There must have been a geriatric's convention in town, as the place was hopping. The hostess was... less than friendly. Maybe it is because they were busy, but I subesquently noticed that she was far more pleasant to other customers. I am sure that the fact that we were the only non-white folks in the place (Yes Virginia, they do have black people in England!) is just a coincidence. Having gotten the bad out of the way, on to the good. Our waitress was a real gem, and the food was excellent. I have the big breakfast, Milady has something smaller, along with bits of mine. When a pot of tea turned out to be too cool to brew properly she took it off the bill without hesitation. We have eaten here once before - we come for the sausages and the bacon, and stayed for the rest - and will do so again.

I love the Ashford House and Winston's Market next door. My family and I go here at least a couple times a month for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The Irish dishes are great, love the chicken curry or curry fries, and lately they started this really tasty thin crust pizza in their bar (or maybe it was always served, but I just discovered it). Lovely, friendly, welcoming atmosphere. My friend's baby shower was here too and it was perfectly done, great food, nice private room, sunny bright fun times.

Killer FRESH Breakfast I have only had breakfast here so I cannot comment on the lunch or dinner. This is homemade preparation here - especially anything that includes meat - as their meat market literally next door supplies the fresh items. My favs: Hash Skillet - amazing Fresh hash Eggs Benedict - really NICE ham - not the usual crap you get almost everywhere else I am NOT a breakfast sausage link fan - BUT the "American" sausage links are awesome!!!

It seems like the Chicago area, nay, the country at large has an obsession with that which is Irishish. Put some green coloring in a decidely American Budweiser and all of the sudden it's Irish. Take a Mexican dish, replace the tortilla chips with french fries (hey kids! remember the potato famine?) and bam, Irish Nachos. Titled Kilt can't seem to differentiate between what's Irish and what's Scottish and DO NOT even get me started on anyone who uses the word "Chi-rish" around St. Patrick's day. So I have to say, for all its flaws, it's really refreshing that the most Irish crazy quadrant of the metro area has a place that is really trying to be authentically Irish and isn't content to just throw a bunch of shamrocks and harps on the walls, stick O' in front of the names of its food and call it a day. The food is very good, (I've only ever been here for breakfast) if not massively different from what you'd normally get at a pancake house. They do make an effort to put an traditional Irish spin on some items which is fun if you want Irish style bangers or bacon over the American versions. Also, lots of corned beef if you're into that thing. The service, well, it's hard to say. When we arrived this most recent time the waitresses apparently passed the responsibility of our table from one to another for 15 minutes or so before we were even acknowledged. Once we were, our waitress was very apologetic, but then proceeded to speed through taking our order like she was auditioning for a Micro Machines commercial and actually missed asking my 7-year-old brother what he wanted to eat. As for the atmosphere of the place, it's a little drab and rough around the edges (although some of that roughness may be part of the recovery from the very strange brawl that happened there a few months back) but comfortable enough. And don't let the aforementioned donneybrook turn you away. That's not the atmosphere of this place at all. That was just a strange freak occurrence that could have happened at any restaurant, it just happened to be this one. So it's not spectacular, but it's a nice, reasonably priced place. If you're looking for something unique with just a little more Irish authenticity, it's worth a shot.

ah... well if this is what Irish food tastes like... then i guess I will be living off McDonalds if I ever make it to Ireland. We came here for breakfast and was eager to try authentic Corned Beef hash with eggs and man or man... stuff was not good. VERY oily, VERY greasy, eggs were not fluffy and the cheese looked like cheap processed kraft cheese. Kinda gross. Mom had some Irish sausage and irish bacon and egg plate, she was was not pleased either. flavor very bland. Well, we've tried it and we will not return. But this will not stop me from trying other Irish places. I'm sure there's gotta be some good authentic corned beef hash somewhere in Chicago.

  • Ron R.

The restaurant was nice and the staff was friendly and attentive but I have to give the food a "so-so". I had the corned beef and cabbage and potatoes, a dish I make myself at home. I understand that the traditional way to make it is boiled but this had no flavor at all. My daughter had a bacon burger which she thought was delicious. My son had the soup, half turkey sandwich and fries which was a good value and he liked it as well. My wife had a chicken caesar salad which she said was just okay. Not a bad place, but for the price the food could have been better.

Well I ordered Shepards Pie from the lunch menu at the price of $8.49. When I got my bill I noticed I was charged the dinner price of $9.99. I asked the girl at the checkout counter if I could see the menu and she gave me the Dinner menu first.,I asked her to see the lunch menu which is the one I was given at the table to order from. When I told her I was charged $9.99 for the dinner she replied "Yeah". She told me that it was now dinner time and thats how much the entree was. I explained to her that we were there well before dinner time and that we were given the breakfast / lunch menus to order from and showed her that the price for the entree was only $8.49. She replied by saying it was the waitresses fault and she will tell her so she doesn't make the same mistake again. Never did she offer to adjust the bill for me and my wife. She then said with a smirk on her face "maybe next time you will come in for the dinner price" I replied by telling her that next time I will just stay home. The dollar and a half was not the issue, it was the principle here. Young lady don't expect customers to bow down to your arrogance in this economy your bad attitude towards customers is simply not needed and or appreciated.

Definitely a fantastic restaurant for the Irish or those looking to hang out with the Irish. I have frequented this place with my grandparents whenever there was an occasion to go out to eat, and there is a very good sense of community in the place. Half the people seem to be old friends one way or another, and they don't mind at all having the random stranger come in and join the social chats. I'm not much of a culinary critic, but I found the food to be just fine. Service is quick and super friendly. The small bar at the front of the restaurant is exactly what I would expect from small local Irish pub. Well suited to sitting around drinking a beer and watching a ball game, or chatting it up with friends and strangers. More than most other resturaunts I've been to, this place just gives me that "I'm happy to be here" feeling. The place can be as fancy as you want to make of it. I've always gone with an older crowd, wearing casual-dressy clothes, but I'd feel just fine in jeans and a polo as well.

Dined out with our best friends last evening at the Ashford House, and we must all say it was an enjoyable and affordable Irish feast for all. Everyone's entree's came with soup or salad. The beef vegetable and cream of broccoli soup was served piping hot, with fresh bread. The salad was crisp, so I was told. I myself had the yorkshire beef, which was well cooked, and served beneath a decent gravy alongside a creamy horseradish sauce. The accompanying Yorkshire pudding was a bit too chewy. The double baked potato was excellent. So much so, that I couldn't finish it will all the food on my plate! Others at our table were equally stuffed. My wife had beef curry, which was flavorful, and served over a heaping mound of rice. Because of the Irish authenticity in both the bar and menu, the available beer selection was well received by the other couple we dined with. They had Magners (a personal favorite of mine as well), and a Black and Tan respectively. We all opted for dessert, given the truly GREAT prices for our entrees. All desserts we tried were amazing, from the "Death By Chocolate" to the "Baileys Cheesecake" (not enough Bailey's taste per my friend's review) and my caramel apple pie. Overall, I'd suggest Ashford to anyone looking for a large menu, great portions, and excellent value. The food is respectable, if not "blow you out of your chair" good. For the money, you can't do much better for an authentic irish pub dinner.

I have come here several times for dinner with older relatives. The food is honestly a little bland but when dining with my 93-year-old grandma, that's what one looks for. Plus the Irish aren't really known for outrageous flavors. I've had several of their fish dishes, and they're always moist and yummy. Their steaks are also very good. They have a good selection of dessert as well. Their menu has several traditional Irish dishes (none of which I have tried as of yet) and the standard restaurant options - pasta, chicken, steak, seafood, sandwiches, etc. They tend to have the same specials all the time, but every once in a while they throw something different in there to change things up. The waitresses and other staff are always very nice and accommodating. There's a bar and a party room and know of several people who have hosted successful events here. Winston's - the grocery store next door - has good party trays of sandwiches and cookies. If you're looking for somewhere to go with an older crowd, I'd definitely give Ashford house a shot. If you're looking for something for a younger crowd, this might not be the best place.

This restaurant is as good as it gets when it comes to Irish breakfast. Their corn beef hash it out of this world. They make it home made using the products from their neighboring grocery store Winston's market. Never in my life have I ever had as good of corn beef as Ashford has. I always get their Irish Skillet with no Cheese. It is their standard corn beef hash with onions and topped with eggs, delicious. To accompany this meal there is nothing better to wash it down with than a pot of their Irish tea. Think English Breakfast flavored, but better. This tea can also be purchased at Winston's next door. I often see showers at Ashford house being thrown, so I am curious as to what shower packages they have. Either way, if it is corn beef you want, hot tea, or simply a cozy breakfast stop, then Ashford House is the place to go. It's where I take all of my out of towner friends. Just dont eat all of the corn beef hash before I get there come Sunday morning.

If you're from Ireland, you'll notice the minute you walk in the door that this place is going to be good. There's something about the smell and the look of the place that makes you think this could be in downtown Athlone, not in Tinley Park. The menu is varied, with mostly American sandwiches and entrees on the list. But the "Pub Grub" section was where we found what we wanted. I got the hot curried chicken and my wife got the Hot Grill. The curry was excellent, spicy and with that irresistible, "out-too-late, where the hell is the curry joint in Temple Bar?" taste I've come to know and love. This would make a great order of curried chips, which I like, too. My wife's hot grill had the usual sausages, rashers, beans, eggs and puddings, along with a lamb chop. It was all good, and for under $7 each, a steal! We took home two doggie boxes (not that the dogs saw much of what we took home!)... Too bad they don't serve Irish-style sandwiches (like a Potato Salad sandwich)... If you're going to Winston's Market, this place is next door. Worth a stop. I wonder if they'll deliver to St. Charles?

Best corned beef sandwich. I've been here for breakfast lunch and dinner. I was very pleased with all. Love the veggie omelet. Peppercorn filets are great dinner choice. If your in the area it's worth the visit.

I know you wouldn't normally go to an Irish place if you're craving curry, but trust me, this is the best curry in town. Their curry dishes are utterly delicious! They also have a wide selection of non-curry foods. You can't go wrong with their shepherds pie.

I have never had a bad meal here. I recommend the Winston's Toasted Corned Beef Sandwich. The Vegetable Beef soup is to die for. Add a few pints of Guinness and you are in heaven.

Been here only for breakfast. And if Irish breakfast is your thing than this is the place to go. Best part about this place is the bar opens when this place opens. I've gotten a beer at this place at 7 am. Not too many places in the Orland Park area that have a bar that is open this early. Relive kegs and eggs. But the breakfast is good. There Irish banger sausages are the best in the world. The soda bread is out of this world too. I've also tried their traditional brown bread which is traditional. If you like to try different things give it a try its flavorful but dry. I'm only getting this place 4 stars because the rest of the breakfast outside of the Irish fare is just above average. Nothing that would knock your socks off. The decor is that of a family restaurant. I think this place would be filled to the brim if it had a real Irish atmosphere

I was very dissatisfied with Ashford House. The restaurant was too dimly lit. The ceiling was water stained. The men's bathroom was dirty. The tomato rice soup was thick and overly salty. The Reuben Sandwich was greasy.

Me and my husband wanted to try this place based on the reviews. I guess we should have gone with the breakfast; this seems to be what this place is famous for. When you walk in, everything looks really classy and clean. Folded cloth napkins arragned neatly, pretty artwork on the walls, and Irish music playing over the speaker. I was expecting something really delicious. We started with the fried veggie appetizer...nothing special. I got the Rueben. I was sorely disappointed. I think Arby's has a better Rueben than this place. My husband got the fish and chips, and I wanted to cry. I really was expecting REAL fish and chips, not lighly breaded crap with regular american fries. The veggies tasted like they were microwaved from frozen. The baked potato, however, was good. (again nothing special). They seem to like to serve everything with a boatload of dressing (fat america, i guess). Which is good if you're one of those people who always want more Ranch (fortunately, they serve it on the side). Anyways, my husband vomited when we got home, and I had to lay down. So much grease, not very good food, and we spend almost 40 bucks on a crappy, disappointing dinner. I would describe this place as a jazzed up Denny's. This was our first visit here, and maybe if we ordered their breakfast, I would have written a better review. I wouldn't be opposed to going to this place again, but NOT for dinner.

Definitely not the most authentic Irish food you can get. Expect the crowd to be very old. Breakfast and brunch are decent. Can't complain about the food as it tasted freshly prepared.

  • Patrick H.

The restaurant and its food are really good . The service is excellent. Their mixed grill is hard to beat. The Irish breakfast is really good too as long as you get the beans and chips along with it. Not too gone on their potato with grilled onion thing they have going on the plate. Overall this is a great restaurant and the owners are really decent people but for the love of God will you stop with that shit music soundtrack you have playing on a loop. No one in their right mind enjoys Black 47 . Just because Gaelic Park employs them as their highlight band on memorial weekend does not mean the band is good. It means they are cheap. Good bands don't play at Gaelic Park anymore. Stop playing that crap. I hate digging into my lamb chop and hearing the painful screech " hey Bridie" . U2 is bad enough but just because a band is Irish does not mean you have to play them in your restaurant. Alright, enough of my rant. Fix the music situation and I will give you top marks. Thanks for the Barry's tea btw.

Ashford House is a quaint, cozy little Irish restaurant that had some highs and some lows. Overall, I would give the experience 3 stars. -Appetizer: Bangers and Mash. Sausage and mashed potatoes with sauteed mushrooms and onions and some gravy. I really liked this. I've only had bangers & mash once in Vegas and could say of the two kinds I've tried, I preferred this one. The gravy was really good and I'm always a fan of anything with mushrooms on it. -Soup: French onion (me) and Oxtail (my husbands.) The french onion was surprisingly bland. Considering they charged me an extra $2.00 to upgrade to this soup, I was expecting something out of this world. I only ate half of it and probably wouldn't order it again. My husband's oxtail soup was really good though. It was creamy and cheesy and the better choice. -Entree: Open face roast beef sandwich, mashed potatoes and gravy and cauliflower. I recently had some teeth pulled and this was my first meal eating anything other than soup, so I tried to play it safe with something that would be easy to cut into pieces. Although I wouldn't call this meal spectacular, I did think it was pretty good. It was a huge portion and I reheated it for lunch today. Our lunch cost about $40 after tax and tip, but the portions were huge and we both had leftovers.

Absolutely one of the worst places in TP to eat. Been here twice and both times the food sucked. Had porterhouse steak the first time, thin chewy, and barely edible. Second visit I tried a burger figuring that not too hard to screw up a burger. Well, first bite into it I could tell it was frozen, because you can taste the freezer burn on it. A place that charges 10 bucks for it it should be fresh beef, not frozen. Last time I will ever set foot in here again. Could have had a much better one at Patio.

My breakfast was outstanding. I had the American skillet: eggs on top of potatoes, bacon and sausage. YUM! And HUGE! Ha! Service was great... a very nice old Irish lady. The ambiance is definitely old world (cough), but it's OK. My only complaint: the Irish jig playing on the PA system at 8 in the morning. (ha!) 4 bill-stars! yow, bill

I was so excited to try this place but was severely disappointed. The decor is way waaaay out dated. The food tastes old and rubbery. Our server was great, really nice & attentive but the food was terrible. So sad!!

Best corned beef hash skillet and Irish soda bread. Always great service. Don't forget to make a stop at Winston's next door for European goodness (including PG tips British tea). Yum.

Oh my gosh, I can not praise this place enough. The ambiance and service were fantastic and the food was sooooo good. The meat could not be any fresher, either. From their market, right next door! I got the Winston's Toasted Corned Beef and it might be the best corned beef sandwich I've ever had. The French Onion Soup, too, oh my god... Amazing. Highly recommend!

Met two friends here for an Irish breakfast--one friend hales from England so she can vouch for good Irish bacon and sausage--we all loved our skillets. Customers and servers were all super friendly. Restaurant was clean and comfortable. We will definitely return.

Food was meh, service was nonexistent. Hostess was the only attentive and friendly person. Ambiance was old outdated and just kinda gross. Air conditioner made loud annoying noise everytime it turned on. Just all around no.

Only went one time and will not be back. Paid about 10.00 for Shepherd Pie which was nothing more than a bowl of mashed potatoes with a small amount of hamburger gravy underneath. Had to pay 50 cents more for blue chees dressing (why I ask, it is just salad dressing) For 50 cents I got a plastic tub like you put the ketchup in at MacDonald's. For 50 cents it should at least come in glass, ceramic or stainless steel. Overall I felt the meal was a huge disappointment and the blue cheese was a rip-off, will not return or recommend to anyone.
