This place is awesome! My wife and I stopped in here for a quick drink the other day and ended up having so much fun sampling and drinking different beers that we stayed the entire afternoon! Amazing beer selection and amazing people serving behind the bar. My only complaint is that the whiskey selection was lacking. hey had the standard options, but I would have loved to have seen ten to 15 different bottles that all had fun stories to go along with the wonderful beer options. Helpful Hint: I hear Thursday is a great night to be here with a ton of people. If you want to sample a lot of beers and learn something, go on a quiet Saturday afternoon.

The only place to go if you want a wide variety of craft beer in Springfield. I only wish they had more draft beers than the 10 or so they currently have. The place does have a distinctive smell to it, although with such an old building I'm not really sure what they could do about that. Even still, it's a great place to have a drink.

Awesome hole in the wall craft beer spot that I randomly stumbled upon while checking out the sights in downtown Springfield. Walking in on a bright summer day, it seemed pretty dark inside and the 1st thing I noticed was the beer selection hanging from the ceiling by the dozen. This made it overwhelmingly difficult to decide what I wanted to try, so I recommend asking for a menu. The beers seemed pretty decently priced for being all craft selections...most of which I've never heard of. I think the watermelon wheat I got was around 5 bucks for a pint. Only had the 1 brew since I had to be at a wedding reception right after, but anything you get here is likely a great choice. This what made it so hard to decide since everything sounded good!

Best craft beer menu in town...hands down. Bartender Steve Balen is very wise in the ways of great beer selections.

I was thoroughly impressed that Springfield is coming up to speed with the rest of the country on the craft beer bandwagon. It started with Obed and Isaac's but continues with this place. They actually had a Kentucky Bourbon Beer that I fell in love with while working in Lexington a while back and for that, I was impressed and happy! The bartender was friendly and also a DJ so he had some good insights into the downtown area as a whole.

Nice little bar! A lot of different beer to try. Reasonable prices. A little overwhelmed by all the different kinds but I'm sure there will be a craft beer you love!

The Craft Beer Bar is an awesome place for the craft beer enthusiast. If your idea of good beer is anything that starts with the word Bud, Miller, Anheuser, or any other mass-distributed beer, this is probably not the place for you. Located in downtown Springfield, the Craft Beer Bar is easy to get to, and well worth the journey. Once inside, the place is a bit minimalist, having a few tables and about 15 bar stools. The glory, though, is the selection of craft beers. One count puts that number at about 188. One-Hundred-Eighty-Eight different beers (twelve on tap)...and not a single Budweiser or Miller label among them! The beer selections are hung on shingles behind the bar (see my photos). They're arranged via style, and Steve (the bartender that day) has a pretty good idea what he's got and can make recommendations for you if you're new to craft beers. You can sample anything that's on tap, and one Tuesdays they offer flights of 4 beers (up to 20). The atmospere is well-suited to the establishment. It's kind of neighborhood bar-ish, and the the kind of place you can sit for a few hours and take the time to relax and enjoy your beverage without being rushed. It's a very unique establishment, and one I wish I lived close enough to enjoy more often. If you're looking for a great craft beer destination that ISN'T a beerfest, this is the place for you.

Easily my favorite bar in the Springfield Area. I'm a big fan of craft beer, and when this place opened in November Last year, I took a plunge and decided to try it out. A joint venture of a couple bar/club owners in town, Craft Beer Bar occupies the former Firehouse bar (mostly known by it's red/white tile decor and stripper... I mean "fireman" pole). Well, the pole is gone, and now there's an awesome hammered copper topped bar that is incredibly inviting. The lighting is whimsical, a cluster of incandescent bulbs dangling in mason jar coverings, and it makes for a great place. As a college kid who hated going out with other college kids (I'm not about the binge drinking and dancing till you're dead), the atmosphere was perfect. They have a rolling selection of craft beers in bottles, cans, and on draft, and they are pretty good about updating what's on draft on their website so you can check before you go in. The place fills up for after work hours from about 7-10, but from about 10:30-1am when they close there aren't too many people. As far as cost? the beer is exepensive, so stick with what's on draft to make your dollar worth it for the taste/quality. If you like what they have, a lot of local shops like Friar Tuck's have the beers there for sale, and for what they have on draft, you can get/fill a growler to go. I can't wait for when I visit again in October and get me some good beer!

Great place to come for beer selection in Springfield. It still is working on separating from the Firehouse's reputation though.

This was one of the last stops my wife and I made on our recent visit to Springfield. At first glance I really, really love the idea. Craft beer is a hugely popular movement right now and to capitalize on that with a craft beer exclusive menu is clever. The decor is an amalgamation of modern, craftsman and industrial. The bar is long and the top is made of beaten copper. Seating is a little too industrial to be comfortable. Their beer list is fantastic, but the beers are predominantly bottled. While I concede that many craft beer houses likely don't produce too many kegs, or it's simply a safer option to get bottles and weed out what isn't popular, draught beer tastes SOOOO much better. Where this joint can improve: - Food. I noted on the calendar that food is brought in on other days (and it's free!) but it wasn't available on Sunday. This was a shame as, by the end of my second beer, I was in need of a snack. Granted being open on a Sunday is an experiment on this business' part (specifically the assistant manager's idea), something to munch on would have been welcome - Don't be afraid to turn away someone who shouldn't be served--whether they're your friends or not. Three kids came in, four or five sheets to the wind, and were served at least three drinks a piece in about an hour and 15 minutes. While they weren't (too) out of control, they were all driving afterward. Sparse attendance in downtown or not, this is a lousy idea - Assistant manager needs to a) stop serving himself drinks, b) leaving for a cigarette break and c) keep his friends from becoming a danger to themselves and others. Heavy is the crown of a bartender, my friend It's a shame that this place has a rather "musty" smell (I really can't come up with a more apt descriptor). I've been told that this is a bi-product of the older buildings in downtown, but it needs to be addressed. Even if it's at the governmental level, people will be more inclined to want to hang out if it doesn't have the scentual reminiscence of a Freddy Krueger movie. Loads of potential here. I hope it takes off and they can fix the scent issue. If you're a local, give this place more than one try. They can't fix what they don't know is broken when you don't return.

This place is awesome. They have 250 craft beers from all over the place. The bartender was wicked nice and showed me a bunch of special beers they had. It's a must stop in Springfield if you like beer.

If you love craft beer, this is your place. Although a little overwhelming at first due to the sheer number of beers available, they do a great job organizing them by type. Our bartender was very knowledgeable and gave some great feedback on what he has tried and what he has liked based on our tastes. You can also order a sampler to try their different tap beers. Great place to check out!
