I love West of Edens !! I have been coming to this place FOREVER and I can't believe it skipped my mind to write it a review. I always get one of three things for an entree: The Tuna Sandwich The Pepper and Egg Sandwich or The Grilled Chicken Sandwich So, you'd think that it would be hard to mess any of these up, but it is very much possible. They have hit the nail on the head every time I've ever been there. On the rare occasion, I will indulge in the lemon rice soup and it is absolutely amazing!! Love this place!

One the most reliable restaurants in the Skokie. What makes it even better are the folks behind the counter. Just good food and service. That's a fer sure!
(5)Blue E.
Awesome food and GREAT service!! Everything I have is always good. The chicken dinner is a deal. Great lemon rice soup.
(4)Moss J.
Great, consistent, reliable. always fresh. owners are good genuine people. if you order in Greek you'll get an extra packet of ketchup . the Owners are always there and happy to serve you as well as give fashion advice.

I love their Greek Chicken Breast, potato & rice lunch special they have. It also comes with pita they are very punctual when it comes to delivery and the staff is awesome as well. The amount of food you get for that price is unbeatable!
(5)Gerry T.
I agree with Joani, Jacob and Gerry, this place is a solid 4 stars. Convenient for the Skokie 5-0 (their HQ is right next door) and for anyone wanting to take a break from McDonald's (which is also right next door). Note: they are no longer related to East of Edens (which is also good but let's stay focused). I've had just about everything from their menu, I've catered from them for a birthday party as well. My personal favorites - the hot dogs, gyros, cheeseburgers, baklava, French fries, Greek chicken, Polish and Italian sausages, etc. Great service and greetings, clean and neat with a flat screen or two. After your meal, you can take a walk across the street at Laramie Park.

Great cheap food

Great grill with great food. Just as good as East of Edens, I'm assuming there's a relation...
(4)M B.
Food is average, at best. You could drive down Touhy and find the same at a number of other places. Employee at the register argued with me about some restaurant certificates that I wanted to use. Customer service could be better.

Super friendly employees, the best Greek chicken you'll ever eat in your life, no need to go to a fancy restaurant the great meal is right here!! Definitely will be back often
(5)Joani O.
This is one of our favorite local places for hotdogs, hamburgers, salads, gyros, chicken, etc! Always friendly service and we love their outdoor patio when the weather's nice. We get coupons from them, too!

I recently visited this joint because it was close to the Holiday Inn I was staying at. Food in Chicago, especially in the suburbia, seems to be both consistent in variety, and repetitive one way or another. With in miles radius, one can probably find a joint serving a mix of gyros, a variety of hot dogs, and maybe a mix of Greek and Mediterranean type food. West of Edens is one of those joints. Haven't been back in town for a few years, I was desirous of dining in at one of these local joints. I have missed a decent gyro in which there is no appeal for in Los Angeles. The friendly service and the relatively tasty gyro brought me to satisfaction. Simple as that. I'd come back here again if I'm ever within that area, especially if I don't have any form of convenient transportation accessible to me.

This char restaurant has served the area for well over a decade and some change. I believe it's Greek owned and operated, for a time in Chicago much of the char types of restaurants were Greek owned and you could expect a quality from their burgers, gyros and more. I first tried them more than a decade ago, I had a gyro combo and haaated it. So I never returned. Years went by and about a year ago I went back to try it again. I kept hearing good reviews from locals that always spoke about their chicken. If you stop in during the afternoon lull when their employees take their lunches you can see that every plate has the chicken and rice. There are people that come in daily for this combo. Anyway, since that first time last year I've been stopping by and giving them a bit of my business. Salads, chicken and rice and their fish sandwich combo which is just in time for lent. Their fish sandwich is mostly breading and a small amount of fish but the combo is served with a ton of fries and it feeds the hunger. The restaurant shares a parking lot with a body shop but ample parking is always available. If ordering delivery, there is a separate charge whether they travel a block or a few miles.

You get to see some of the Skokie's/Niles' finest in here, grubbing during lunch. I thought their gyros were pretty solid (kind of salty, well-cooked, generous with the tzatziki sauce); they have a lot in your car, and it's right off of Niles Center Rd. The service is great, efficient, and a lot of people do carry-outs. +salty gyros +generous tzatziki sauce
(4)B A.
The gyros plate was $8+ and included less fries than the meal combo it appeared. The sauce was a little watery. The fries seemed like they were missing something. The pita, gyros, and tomatoes were fresh. A-OK
(3)Peter K.
Chicken breast plate or chicken legs special. Can't go wrong with either one. Prices are at a discounted rate and the food and service is at a premium. Good people here and plenty of parking on their lot.
(5)Pam D.
We stopped here for lunch today. I had an Italian been and Christopher had the chicken tenders. My beef was not bad, but his tenders were rather dry. I should have ordered something Greek, and will come back some day and give it another try. I do like that they have healthy alternatives to the typical fast food fare, including a low carb selection and various salads. The prices are reasonable and the place was very clean.
(3)Ed A.
I think this place is great and is really the only restaurant that serves fresh unprocessed food. Of course, Outback steakhouse is another option, but I'd much rather spend my money here at a family-owned place. the entire menu is good, hummus, falafel and so on. My only critique is that they put too much parsley tabouli. But each region has their own taste, my father being from northern Lebanon. The food is good, cheap and heart healthy. The atmosphere is a little sparse but this is not a suit and tie, valet parking silver utensil kind of place. It's good food man! Enjoy.
(4)Paul Z.
I tried their skirt steak sandwich, they drenched the small piece of steak in BBQ sauce then added pickle, onions, lettuce and tomato, resulting in 1 awfully messy and horrible sandwich
(2)Tom H.
Typical diner food, except it's in a strip mall.
(3)Sean S.
I ordered shish ke babs from their low-carb menu. I was served miniature ke babs that wouldn't suffice as an appetizer. Small squares of meat on each of 4 skewers, with wood skewers cut down to mask how tiny they were. My husband's gyros plate (also low carb) was pathetic as well. I felt like Tom Hanks eating the baby corn in Big. If I ordered there again, I'd order the regular version of each plate to potentially get a fairer portion of meat, and I'd take off what I couldn't eat. But I won't have to worry about tzatziki sauce on my fingers because we won't be eating there again. Too bad, since we shop in that district all the time. I'm also pretty sure that the low carb plates were at least as much as their full-carb-loaded equivalents. Shame on my optimism and time crunch for not noticing.

I like this place it has never let me down, fast service good food always clean. On top of all that it's near my kids favorite movie theatre!

I could not be happier! I hosted a party for 25 family members and had it catered by West of Edens. The ordering was really easy, the price was fantastic, and we had enough food for leftovers. It was perfect! Our guests were commenting left and right about the quality of the food and the great flavor. We had gyros, pita, greek salad, rice, chicken legs/thighs, and potatoes. All of it was fantastic. My 2 year old couldn't eat enough of the rice =). Everything was fresh, tasty, and well prepared. There were only 2 pitas left, because people ate so many gyros. I was so pleased. If you are planning a party, cater from West of Edens!
(5)Julia M.
Great place. Fresh gyros with plenty of fries. The staff were friendly and accommodating. This place always gets packed at lunch time during the week, so plan accordingly. Always a great sign!
(5)Trish T.
I used to like this place when we wanted something fast and non fast food. But my last few visits left much to be desired! The tables are always dirty if not filthy. Have to ask to wipe them down. This last visit, table was so dirty you could feel the scum. I wiped it with a napkin and it was black! Moved to another table; not much better. Then we asked for feta fries and the girl acted like she didn't know what we were talking about. I ordered a chicken kabob sandwich and it was like sample size pieces of chicken!!! I sent it back and the girl says; "oh they're always small and we tell customers before they order; is that what you really want because they're small"! Well, she somehow missed telling me that! Besides, I order that every single time I go there and I can't finish the kabob because they're so big!! Not this time!! Getting skimpy! So I asked for a gyros instead and waited 15 minutes for it! In the meantime; my fries were cold!!! No apology, and they didn't even bring it to me; just threw it up on the counter; while I'm supposed to know its mine!!! On another note; I feel like I'm in a Mexican restaurant since all you hear is the banter of Spanish loudly spoken by employees as they speak back and forth to each other while some are sitting watching TV or just laughing and acting like kids! Maybe instead of goofing around; they should be cleaning the tables off and emptying the garbage!!! Last time I go there!!! If you want dirty tables and the most "non Greek" food experience....
(2)Nicole H.
I'm Middle Eastern so I eat a lot of this type of food. Its good. Their chicken is inconsistent. It always has great flavor, but sometimes is amazingly moist, and other times very dry. Still, always tastes good. Their potatoes and rice, and what you would expect to get at any hot dog/ gyro place. My main complaint is their soup. I have only had their chicken rice. I've had it twice, and never again. It is absolutely terrible. Tastes like a mouth full of salt with no other flavor. Also has barely any rice in it and I am yet to get even one chunk of chicken. Id rather eat canned soup!!! Skip the soup, don't make a long trip to get here, but if your in the area and hungry, check it out!
(3)Gabriel C.
Can never go wrong with getting the chicken special. Never had a bad experience with the service either.
(4)Gerry X.
Went there with Mom again. Still all good. My past review stands the same.
(4)Custom M.
Chicken Leg Special with extra leg, pita, and three sides of BBQ sauce! Amazing!!! Their Greek chicken is the best! I can eat this meal everyday! So worth price! You can't go wrong with the Gyro's plate, the burgers are cool, and the jumbo dog is awesome! They sell ice cream too! This the best place to go before the movies or after, a lot of the places in the area are always packed, over priced and serve cold food.
(5)Chris W.
I work at Command Transportation right down the street. I eat here for lunch all the time. They remember my name and what I order. Great place and even better people.
(5)Liza K.
I eat here almost 4 times a week. I love their chicken dinner with rice and a small Greek salad
(5)Tal R.
This place is great! I work real close to it and I eat lunch there at least once a week. I would recommend: Gyros Chicken Leg Special Burgers Chili Almost anything you can think of they have, and it is all delicious. If you go during lunchtime it is a good idea to call in ahead for pickup as it can get kind of busy inside
(4)George A.
This family works hard to please you. We have had their catering and have dined in many times.
(4)Donald K.
This is a great place to eat, the food is very good and the prices are very fair. and the place is clean as a whistle. I very often have the tuna salad sandwich but have tried most everything on the menu. The Chicken Special is famous. My daughter loves the steak sandwich. West of Edens is a real gem, especially compared to the chain restaurants that are taking over the area. It is very telling that the same employees have been working there for years and years, always a sign of a great restaurant.
(5)Allan M.
A very decent mom-and-pop eatery. And of the 2 ___ of Edens restaurants(which have the same menu, and pretty much everything else), this one is tougher to locate, and is hidden, unlike East of Edens. Anyway, if you're trying to find this location, just go beyond the McDonald's at the corner of Niles Center Rd. and Touhy Ave., and its located in a strip mall off of Niles Center, on the left side of the street as you're heading north. Anyway, as I used to work in a place in the Village Crossing Shopping Center, I'd occasionally eat here, as I grew tired of always going to Chipotle, or getting the chicken tenders from Jewel. Menu is pretty good here, as I loved the variety of things you could order on their menu. I almost always got the $5.25 chicken special, whenever I came here. The rice and potatoes that come here are especially a great plus, if you order that special here, as I loved those 2 things that came in the special. Hope I can come back here one of these days, as I hadn't gone to either of the ____ of Edens locations in ages. The only negative about this location, is that I slightly prefer the ambiance of East of Edens, over West of Edens, as East is roomier, and the bigger of the 2 locations. Still though, this place is up there with other Village Crossing area fast-food spots, such as Dear Franks/U Dawg U.
(4)Gabriel A.
Great Kabobs! Great Gyros! Great Chicken special! Nuff said!!!
(3)Rolo R.
Food is good, but small portion on gyros sandwich. Usually when you go to a place like this and you get gyros, they give you a mountain high portion. Not sure if I'll be back.
(3)Todd S.
Great food and great people. I have been going there for years and love it.
(5)Dane S.
Came here for lunch with my brother and father. They got the chicken platter while I got the chicken kabob special. It came with either a soup or a salad, I got soup. Now I have no idea what of soup it was but it wasn't good for my taste. For me I wasn't a big fan of the sour type after taste of the soup. But the chicken was delicious, onions were tasty and cooked well, green peppers were too strong for my liking but still pretty good. It also came with potato, pita bread, and lemon rice. The lemon rice was very good. It was about 1pm and the restaurant was about 3/4 full. I would give this place a 3.5 out of 5 stars if possible.
(3)Yahaa T.
Went here with the fiance since it was close by. We both had the lemon chicken rice soup with rice pilaf, chicken legs, potatos(the special) and the portion was pretty good! The soup although not as creamy as I'd like, was still yummy, tangy and lemony filled with rice. However the blowing A/C made it go cold too fast! Bread was dry so I didn't touch it. The Grecian potatoes were excellent, melted in my mouth. Chicken was moist and tasty, but could have used more salt and seasoning in my opinion. Rice pilaf was standard, nothing special. I would definitely drop by again, maybe to try the other food choices. If they amped up the rice and gave me fresh bread maybe I woulda boosted this to 4 as I am a sucker for chicken legs and thighs served Grecian style.

I will never eat here agin never food is suck every where els they have the beverage machine out side they have it inside trust me I don't even like hubs but I rather hubs the. This place I work and I deliver food to the restaurant I never seen food suck like this place

West of Edens is a great place to eat, especially if your going to the theater before or after at the Village Crossing, which is across the street. We order the Tilapia and have them eliminate the salt. It's delicious! I order mine with veggies and my husband gets the potatoes which are oven-baked and tasty. They have a cute outdoor seating area which is nice in the summer. They are also famous for their Greek-style chicken legs with rice, potatoes and French bread. Always great and reasonably priced. May be a fast food joint but certainly above the fast food tastes.
(5)Harry P.
I was in the mood for a an Italian beef sandwich so I stopped in since I had a meeting with a client down the street. Big mistake. They serve the usually ready made rubbery kind that you will find in the majority of joints in the Chicagoland area. Italian beef is a Chicago staple and I can't stand it when places buy the pre-cooked product. Fries where the usually frozen stuff. Even the giardiniera had no flavor. A message to the owners, do not advertise fresh when you are offering a pre-cooked or a frozen product. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day with you guys.
(1)Cindy D.
My husband LOVES their 2 piece chicken dinner for $5 (total with tax)! Obviously comes with two dark piece thighs, wrapped up in aluminum foil and drizzed with chicken/lemon sauce. Also, with rice, potatoes, and bread. You can change out one of the sides for steam veggies for those wanting to reduce carb intake. Great deal for a quick take out dinner!
(4)Vince R.
Ive been going here for the past 2 years since I work across the street. The staff is super friendly and gets to know you bay name. Its a nice place to go with family, not your average fast food place more like a diner. I like this place because Always see the same people and the owner each time I go.
(4)Rose S.
Steady and consistent good food and quality service. Not sure how anyone could actually give this place a negative rating...that's strange to me. Try the rice pudding sometime. Also the half chicken is always great, and I prefer it with rice and fries. I love their homemade BBQ sauce too.
(5)Hey U.
Consistently TINY portions and very greasy, cheap grade gyro. I had heartburn for 2 days. I'll never go back.
(2)Dan B.
Five stars for the lunch special -- two baked chicken thigh/legs, rice, potatoes and bread for $5.25. Can't beat it.
(5)Andrew C.
One of my favorite Grecian restaurants...I just tried it recently and have been back a bunch of times. I can't get enough of their Chicken Breast special.
(5)Maximus T.
Good food and decent prices. they have great gyros and an awsome chicken leg dinner i believe....$4.95?
(3)Michelle F.
Great mediterranean food - lemon rice is delicious, and chicken is always done well. Plus, they make great gyros and have american food like hamburgers/chicken fingers for the picky kids.
