I really do love this place. I've been here on several occasions for things like UFC fight and Hawks games to family dinners, every single time we leave happy. I also live pretty close so I order take out from here on grub hub fairly often and it always arrived either before or exactly on time. Try the Bourbon Chicken with the bourbon glaze if you don't feel like pizza.

Great food and great service!! Claudia was our waitress and she is such a sweetheart!! Free drink since it was my birthday and she got me a lottery ticket! Lol. My first time there and I was pleased. I got a thin crust spinach pizza and it was really good and I'm not a fan of thin crust. Definitely going back soon!

Despite having lived in Skokie for a number of years in my teens and twenties, I never made it in to Village Inn, a Skokie classic. Had the opportunity recently and it was a good experience. Friendly, accommodating waitstaff. I enjoyed the Bourbon Chicken, while my dining companion thought the ribs were delish. The restaurant has a neighborhood bar-type feel, casual and comfortable and parking is never a problem.

So being a typical Italian, I went to a Pizzeria and ordered a chicken sandwich with steak fries and onion rings! I ordered the Foghorn Leg Horn Chicken Sandwich! Yummy! Well-prepared. I liked the avocado and other ingredients!. Steak fries were good. Onion rings were very good! Thanks for an enjoyable meal; I'll be back!

I used to live, go to high school, attend church in this area so I've passed by the Village Inn a countless number of times but I finally made my first visit with a couple of friends last night only to find out that I wasn't really missing out on much. You enter in through their small pizza store/order bar (what they're known for) and then you walk into the main dining and bar area. For a saturday night the place seemed a bit tamer than I expected but maybe that's because I've forgotten where I was (in the burbs) and a quick look around made it clear that only locals really come here to hang out and grab a bite/drink. The service was attentive enough. We were seated and given a round of water fairly quickly. We were still full from an earlier dinner so we just opted for bar food and drinks. We ordered the BBQ wings and nachos, some beer, and a couple of long islands. We asked about the deals going on with the beer (a lot was going for 3 or 4 dollars) and she informed us that those were the ones that they have trouble selling and "aren't very good." Oh... okay, well we'll stick with the $6 beer then. Food ended up taking 25 minutes to come out and being mediocre. That's without really expecting much to begin with. Wings looked like they could've easily came out of one of those frozen wholesale packages that you just pop in the oven and put sauce over (I love those by the way but I don't want to go to a restaurant and pay for a serving). The nachos didn't have the right ratio of nacho:cheese:beef:sour cream and ended up being a plate of solid cheese and ground beef not too long after. I don't know. I'm willing to give it 3 stars because of the hometown appeal and it seems to cater well for the people who have stayed here. I'll try some of the pizza next time.

As we attempted to cross Brown Street to enter the Village Inn their reckless pizza delivery guy missed hitting us by inches. We turned around and headed to Lou Malnati's in Lincolnwood.

Their pizza is outstanding and while I've never been there for Sunday NFL football games, the times I have been there, it's always crowded and the pizza is always great. Had them deliver once too. It was prompt and the pizza was hot n fresh!

We gave this place a second chance last weekend, and it was great! Fried mushroom apps were delicious and plentiful. Cherry lager to drink--yum. We also ordered a "meat lover's" pizza, which was excellent. The crust was a little softer than last time, but still super thin. All in all, a good experience.

Today I witnessed a customer go berserk on management. You know, yelling, flipping the bird, etc., while accompanied by her small child. I just have to say, the staff handled the situation very professionally. They were calm, courteous, and tried to resolve things. It was a lost cause, but they really tried. And that's what counts.

  • Paul C.

Great atmosphere and service, but way too much sugar in the pizza sauce. Seems to be a trend lately with pizza joints. Sugar is supposed to be used sparingly only to cut down in the acidity of the tomatoes. We're talking like a pinch or 2 in a large pot of sauce. Places these days are making it dominate the natural, tangy flavor of tomatoes. A culinary crime.

I have been guided to Village Inn by a few people to have their great pizza. I wasn't impressed. It wasn't bad pizza but it wasn't great pizza. Unfortunately the best pizza in the area is still from Sam's Club-eek! The thin crust just didn't hit the mark on pizza excellence - just drab crust without the right about of crispness and flavor. Also, this is one of the few bars in Skokie. Again, not a bad bar but not a great bar. The service was nice but they seemed to be out of half of the beers on the menu. The beer selection would be great if they did actually have the beers they typed up. Someone with some gumption could make bank in Skokie by opening up a great bar and/or awesome pizzeria.

  • Ramena A.

SOOOO OVERRATED. The crust is disgusting. It's dry and thick, there's no sauce, but a lot of cheese and they're liberal with toppings. They have very good fries, and I know whether a place is good or not based on their fries! They've won a lot of awards so I don't understand why there was such a disconnect between what I've read, and what I've experienced. But I'll be back, and hopefully it's better then! Definitely worth checking out.

I love this place, if you are looking for a low key place with good beer options, darts and pool they have it all - and their apps and pizza are super yummy :)

I came here last night after hitting golf balls on the driving range. I enjoyed the fact that you could turn your head in any direction and see a TV. When we arrived the place was partially filled but by the time we started to eat it filled up fast. The one table next to us had dads with their sons. It brought back memories of days when I would take my sons out for pizza. Dads night out. The wait staff was good, attentive and friendly. We ordered a meat lovers pizza and it was pretty good. I would like to try some of the other foods next time. I would come back if I where in the neighborhood.

I think when people walk into Village Inn they expect this high-class dining facility. It's a local Sports Bar. Pizza is great and there are a TON of options to choose from. The staff is very friendly and if you go in enough they will remember what you ordered last time. A very comfy atmosphere. Always plays all the sports games. PLUS they just revamped the entire bar to accommodate more seating!

Food is great, I really like this place. I'm only giving 3 stars though, due to poor quality of their Philly cheese steak. It says that it's served with thin slices of beef which it wasn't, also no flavor at all. The sandwich was so small for a huge price.. $9.50 which included very oily steak fries, not good! I have to say that the other items that I have ordered in the past were very good, the chicken parm, burgers, and gourmet burgers, apps, were awesome!! Please do something about your Philly, it was horrible, for a price like that I was expecting something to as close as a real Philly cheese steak. One more thing, when ordering through grubhub.com it asks you if you want a free coleslaw, it was checked and also on the receipt, we never got it in our order. Thanks!

  • Erick T.

We've eaten here a couple of times and I can honestly say I'm not impressed. The food is decent but the service is horrible. Tonight we waited 15 minutes to place our order (after our server took the order of a group that arrived after us) even though we were clearly ready before them. I ordered the burger special, which never arrived. How did I know this? My wife asked about it, the server said it's on the way, but I had to go to where server was and stop her from everything it into their system. Now, to get the special price for the burger I had to buy a drink. When I told the server I didn't want the burger, she was nonchalant about it. If I knew the burger was not coming, I would've passed on the drink. Instead of being apologetic and offering to comp the drink, we still had to pay for it. Since the poor service is more of a trend than a one time thing, it's going to be a LONG TIME before I step foot in there again.

First time there last night and loved the place. Great environment to watch a game and grab a beer. TVs are everywhere so it wasnt a problem to find a seat to watch the game. Pizza though was terrific and made the entire night. Only thing I will say is that I do not like to ask the waitress 3 times to get a drink or a refill. Great food, great place to watch a game, but you may have to trip your waitress to get their attention. Enjoy.

Not sure what happened to this place. I have been there a few times and the food was fine. It is a good place to hang out and watch a game. I was there with my family tonight and we were very disappointed. I ordered a veggie burger. Part of it was rock hard! I told the server who quickly said would you like to talk to a manager? The manager came over and told me they don't make the veggie burgers and sometimes that happens. He did take it off the bill. Why have a terrible product on the menu? It was clearly microwaved and that's why it was so gross. Then I ordered a root beer beer. It was so gross-we looked up reviews and people raved about. What I was served was flat and disgusting. I clearly had not drank any of it but the server never even asked if we liked it. I felt like she knew it was bad but didn't care. She also only brought out 1/2 a slab of ribs when we ordered a full slab. The menu has expanded but not for the good. Someone else at my table ordered an Italian beef and it was much smaller than it had been in the past and didn't taste good. All in all we will not be returning for dinner anytime soon. If we are looking for somewhere to sit at the bar and watch the game maybe. But I won't be ordering any beers on tap or food there again.

My favorite bar in the world. A Cubs fan and IL native, I've tried to get back to Chicago once a year to watch some games. I might get into Wrigley for one game, then watch as many more as the trip allows at Village Inn. The past several years I've booked a hotel in Skokie just to maximize my time at Village Inn. Their stuffed pizza is out of this world, but bring a lot of friends. I had their Italian Beef sandwich on my last visit, and it was one of the best I've ever had. I took a picture of the sandwich, but I can't find a way to upload here. Both the food and service cannot be beat.

Great food, nice atmosphere, decent prices and great staff! We went there for the first time by way of a recommendation from a friend. So glad we went! Our group of 4 had a great time with good food! I had the saganaki chicken, Husband had patty melt, Mom had fish and chips and Dad had meatloaf. Everyone loved their food and they have a great beer selection for craft beers too. Our waitress was great and super chatty & funny.

I ordered 3 pizzas, well done, to be delivered to a park district field house after an event at 8 PM and they arrived right on time and cooked to perfection. Everyone scarfed it up in 15 minutes. Not only does V.I. have great thin crust za, their service is outstanding!

I don't get to Skokie enough- but the town has so much to offer! Village Inn Skokie is a fabulous sports bar with even better food & service. We go there after shows & concerts. Skokie is filled with performing arts that unfortunately go under the radar (my opinion). Check-out Skokie for the Arts... but stay around for the Village Inn!

I'm really surprised by the negative reviews on here. While Village Inn isn't fancy, it's a great place! My husband says "it's got a Cheers vibe," which is pretty true. The pizza is delicious and reasonably priced. They have tons of "events" each week for watching football games and getting people in the door. The drinks are really good and the staff is super friendly. My husband and I rang in the New Year here last night, on a whim and we were both so happy that we did. We had dinner down the block so we were only ordering drinks, but the waitress was a doll and kept bringing out party favors (hats, tiarras, noise makers, etc.) and everyone seemed to be having a really good time. I love Village Inn and will come back again and again!

WARNING: exploding ketchup on tables! Snapped open the top, and a giant arc of ketchup shot out and plopped on me and my husband. According to the manager, they've been having problems with the plastic bottles and 'pressure from the vinegar'. Uh, OK, great, but I had to eat a cold dinner, as did my hubby, in a wet undershirt with a paper towel bib. Our friends ate alone while we were in the bathroom cleaning. An hour at home trying to get the stains out of my jacket adds to my frustration. Why? After first offering to comp the dinner, and to dry-clean my jacket (why would I leave my jacket there? and how would I get it back?), the manager back-tracked to a 20% discount. On 3 sandwiches, 2 sodas, and a couple of beers. So about $10. There is such super service here from the servers, why blow it by admitting you have a problem with the ketchup, then not do the right thing when a diner has a ruined meal? Cold french fries suck.

This is a great neighborhood joint. The pizza is tasty, fresh and not greasy at all. My favorite sandwich is the Daytona chicken sandwich (grilled not fried chicken) along with the ever popular tater tots. The onion rings are good for a starter, as is the saganaki (strange but true). My husband loves the wraps and I also enjoy the Italian Beef sandwich. Pretty good beer selection, too.

I haven't actually really gone here for lunch except for the one time that the Skokie businesses were hosting the "dine-around" for the people working in the industrial park in the downtown Skokie area. This review is based on the delivery pizza. We have ordered from here a couple of times and the pizza is "OK". For company sponsored lunch, it's OK but I don't think I would go out of my way for it. I hear lots of people raving about it and I don't see their fascination with it. The pizza is OK. Nothing to write home about. I guess if you're looking for something quick and decent, this place is OK. Will have to check out the bar area though since it's right up the street from me. My mind may change if I'm drinking a nice cold one with their pizza.

Last night was one of those gloriously cool nights and we just wanted to get out a bit. I looked through my coupons and Groupons and lo and behold, I had a Groupon for Village Inn. Village Inn is truly a neighborhood kind of place. It was full of local folks having a good time, watching baseball on the myriad of TV screens they had, or watching the magic tricks performed at the tables. Every Wednesday night is Magic Night at Village Inn. I must say, the atmosphere was quite festive for a Wednesday night. The service was very good too. Our Groupon was accepted with no fuss and the waitstaff could not have been nicer or more attentive. They bring you a bowl of popcorn while you are waiting for your order, so we munched on that and watched the White Sox game to pass the time. Christopher ordered their taco dinner. A suggestion ... do not order taco dinners in a pizza joint. He said the meat filling was good, but they topped it with cheddar cheese, and to be honest, it looked more like gringo tacos than the real deal. I ordered thin crust pizza for myself and mom. It wasn't bad at all. I have had better pizza, but this was perfectly fine for what it was. We got refills on our soda without having to ask. That was certainly a plus. In reality we had a good time at Village Inn. We both agreed we would go back one of these days. I would suggest, sticking to pizza and burgers, and, oh yes, skip the margaritas. There is something going on every night. Tuesday is Trivia night. That I can groove on. Pizza and Trivia. WTG!!!

They have been a great place to eat drink and meet people and the waitstaff will make you feel at home. I cant believe I am reading bad reviews on there pizza here? You guys must not have tried the hand toss "there trade mark slices". I will admit the thin crust is ehhh but that's like going to giradanos for a thin crust you just dont do it . I always try what a place is famous for then browse the menu.

Maybe I was wrong for coming to a pizza place and ordering a salad. But I couldn't have been more wrong than charging $8 for a steak salad where the lettuce was entirely iceberg. Only iceberg. I don't need handpicked frisee or anything, but maybe a little romaine? I don't know. Something! Make it substantial at least. And if it isn't good, don't put it on the menu. I felt like I was punished for ordering an entree salad (and this was a salad that was denoted as a favorite, I cannot imagine that the other ones are like). Moving on, the shrimp fra diavolo pasta appetizer was pretty good. I should have just ordered that. The service was pretty awkward at first because most of the dining room staff hadn't arrived yet. The clientele were an assortment of people that I don't often hang out with (people having an office party, pool players, local Skokie village drunks perhaps, and many children). It baffles me that this place would be crowded on 5pm during the week and yet an outstanding restaurant down the street that serves my favorite mole sits empty. Maybe I don't really belong in downtown Skokie (except at Yolo) because Village Inn is clearly not my scene, but seems to be everyone else's... makes me think I am a crazy person. I could see how this place could be charming in a dated way, but honestly, I was just hungry and wanted reasonable food at a reasonable pace, which I did not receive.

Stumbled in here one night because my other half thought I had made reservations somewhere and much to our chagrin, every place we tried was booked for hours. Imagine that, Saturday night at 7pm, every place was booked. Shocker, I know. Anyway, we came across this little gem. It's a no-frills kind of place where if you where a dress you may look out of place. Pizza and beer on tap is a safe bet. Everything else on the extensive menu looks good but admittedly, the wrap and tempura and burgers we had were just ok. The pizza was great. The waitress was friendly and warm and the patrons were all in good spirits and this really felt like a neighborhood bar. Awesome place! Will be back again!

Order here a few times for different items they all were a disappointment. Over priced, the girl on the phone screwed up the order, took forever to have it delivered. Food was warm and greasy. And just plan garbarge pizza.

Great Food, Crappy Service. Haven't ordered from there since February and somehow my credit card was charged last week. When I called, they said they knew about the problem, would have somebody call me back to fix it and nobody did. I called again and they said it was a glitch and whomever used their credit/debit card there in February got recharged. They also said I would be reimbursed Friday. It's Sunday and still nothing. I am very disappointed how they handled the situation. How do I know somebody didn't actually steal me card number. It doesn't add up.

I like this place, my friends do a Skokie bar crawl here and they have good pizza,. And they dont yell at us when we get drunk and fight. And a pool table is here so you can brush up and clean the clock of a 4 . And then you can buy some sweet threads at the Marshalls.

In short Village Inn serves its purpose. It's not going to wow or disappoint you. The pizza is pretty good. They have a wide menu which is a major plus. I'm a huge fan of fried snacks like poppers, mushrooms, cheese sticks etc. They have all that. They also have signature sandwhiches and burgers. Fog Horn Leg Horn is one that stands out. It's a bit much as it has bacon, ham, mozz, cheddar, bbq sauce, grilled onion, avocado and grilled chicken breast. But aside from food I've always been serviced well there no matter who is working. It's a real easy place to watch a game and have a beer as they have a pretty good selection. Overall I like it, but it is a bit pricey for what it is.

I want to love this place. The pizza is good, super close to our home and I really do like the chain pizza places. So today we thought we would try it again. Friends in from out of town and a long day at the zoo...pizza it is. We placed our order and were told 20 minutes. Perfect. We get there to pick up and 20 was actually 30. No problem. We wait. $60 later and we bring it home. Looks great. Until...the $22 pizza that we ordered with chicken and spinach has no chicken. None. We call. The PR girl says drive the pizza back and we will make another. Seriously? That is the worst customer service solution ever!!! So you screw up and I should be inconvenienced and drive back to show you I am not lying and THEN you will make another pizza in another 1/2 hour. What about just a credit for the chicken we paid for and never received? Or how about an apology for our inconvenience and being charged for something we did not get. 3rd time is not a charm..done with this place...for good

I'm really really really confused. The pizza is not that great. What makes the pizza great is that its free for all the drunkards when the place closes every night. Try it sober, it is no Lou's, Gino's, Giordanos, or any other deep dish pizza establishment. This place is nice that you'll always run into people from HS here. However you are paying city bar prices for a suburban sports bar. BTW when they have DJs there on Sat nights.... it sucks monkey b@lls

Perfect pizza, not anything resembling Tombstone (seriously? Tombstone?) Great drinks, great people, great service. A great neighborhood place that's cozy.

I have been at the village Inn . And its a pretty decent neighborhood bar with pool table and restaruant area. Parking is by the side . Its a great place to take friends out for pizza. The pizza is good sort of like late NIGHT PIZZA with your friends watching a game.

YUM! I've been picking up pizza to take home with me every few months. This is one of the best thin pizza joints in the Chicagoland area.

Village inn is an over priced sports bar. They have some good specials throughout the week but their regular menu is more expensive than competitors in the area and the food is average at best. I've had several items from here including their chicken and pulled pork sandwich, both were disappointing. Their pizza is pretty good but not the best in Skokie. However, I will say most of the staff I've come in contact with has been prompt and friendly. But that doesn't make me want to come back.

Amazing pepperoni pizza and breadstocks as well. Deep dish and thin crust are both delectable. The bar scene is typical of a Midwestern town with good happy hour deals on bottles and you call it's. Lots of tv's and a few projectors as well entertian. Good value for your dollar if your looking for great pizza.

This place is "Skokie as hell". There will always be a special place reserved in my heart for village inn. It's across the street from my childhood church and a couple blocks from my childhood house. I can remember riding bikes around the neighborhood, finding ways to hustle 2 bucks together so we could ride over to village inn and split a slice of pizza and a pop with the bike gang homies. I can also vividly remember having one of the worst bike wipe-outs of my life directly in front of this place and one of the employees rushed outside with a first aid kit and bandaged me up when i was like 12 yrs old. (still have the scars to prove it.) As i grew up, I'd eventually swing in to village inn for a few post-work drinks after a long day at the bank and hit on the cute romanian server chicks in my fancy pants and overpriced ties. Whenever i visit my mom up in the north suburban village of destiny, I will certainly always make a few calls to the Skokie homies and Niles west posse to set up a village inn reunion. The pizza is decent, the other food is decent, but the bar area just has this nostalgia and an aura of comfort that I love. The service is always great and the staff is super friendly. Its the quintessential neighborhood drinking spot. You cant expect anything other than a good atmosphere and cheap drinks with good service at such places. This aint a frickin gold coast latin-asian fusion restaurant with tilapia flown in fresh daily from japan or an ostrich meat soup that features a broth of unicorn tears so shut the f*ck up, sit down drink your damn beer and finish your mediocre pizza and stop whining. I'm such a crazy asshole sometimes. Meh-skoozie.

Randy & I opened the Village Inn in 1990, and it was crucial to us both being pizza lovers that it always be freshly made to order. The dough and the sauce are both made fresh daily. The cheese and the sausage are specific blends we developed, and all the veggies are fresh. Randy is Italian and so am I. You may actually like "American" pizza, and it's nothing like an authentic Italian pie. Everyone has their own idea of what an awesome pie should taste like as well consistency and stringiness of the cheese. So, if you like the kind of pizza I like and Randy likes, you'll love the Village Inn pizza.

I like this place. My friends and I visit here from time to time when we want to watch a game and enjoy a good pizza. The prices are not too expensive. There are tons of TV's all over the place so you don't have to crank your head to watch a game. The food was great! The buffalo wings, breaded mushrooms, buffalo shrimp, and the pizza were well cooked and very tasty! Parking is easy since there is a lot right next to the place. A good place to check out if you're in the area...

Loved that they bring you pop corn, which was much better than the movie pop corn we had earlier that day. The pizza was good but nothing great. We wanted to like it much more than we really did.

Village Inn has been one of my favorite places to go since I started working in Skokie. Their food is delicious and I enjoy the atmosphere. They catered an event that my company hosted recently and the food was great!! We had club sandwiches of all sorts, pasta salad and their house salad. The spread was awesome! The delivery man arrived on time and was happy to set out the food. Ordering the food was easy and they were more than happy to accomodate our needs. Thanks to Village Inn for such wonderful service and great food!

  • C B.

We ordered a pizza for delivery with a specific request for the time of delivery. The order arrived 35 minutes early; luckily I was home. Unfortunately it had to sit for 30 minutes before waiting for others to arrive. A pan pizza sitting for an additional 30 minutes becomes a chewy mess of dough, sauce and cheese, leaving us wishing we had ordered elsewhere.

I'm not sure what the hype is all about. Their pizza is nothing special. They use too much cheese.

    (3)
  • DG V.

I'll start by saying this is one of only a few places to grab a beer in Skokie. That alone gets it one star. If you are looking for a sports bar and don't really care about the food (cleanliness and all) then look no further. Drinks are inexpensive, service is pretty awesome, food is unimpressive. Good atmosphere if you are there to watch a game, there are plenty of TVs. Clientele is mostly local, older regulars. I used to go here quite a bit and stopped for a few months. Went back last Friday to give it another chance. Probably not going back.

Can I even attempt to write a review of this place without ever having tried the pizza? apparently yes, dawg. But I will withhold a star or two until I've had the pleasure. My coworkers and I have made this place our Friday happy hour go-to, something I really don't have a problem with. After a long week of adolescent drama and fits of hormone-induced crying, I need a drink, maybe even two. And maybe, just maybe, one of those two drinks will need to have Irish whiskey in it. But that's a pretty big maybe. Depends on the week I suppose. Anyway, Village Inn is the perfect venue for a post-work bitch session; dimly lit barroom with a bunch of big screens and Chicago sports paraphernalia. There's really nothing like sipping a Stella, bitching about work, and glancing up to see a signed, framed picture of Mike Ditka giving the crowd at soldier field the middle finger (something I've wanted to do a couple times in my life). And then there's the waitstaff. They are a mythical breed of human here. There's this leggy blonde who wears leather mini-skirts even though she's maybe just a little too old to do so. I find her fascinating, and completely lovely. She puts me under some sort of spell where I don't think twice about tipping twenty percent; where I don't think twice about ordering another bucket of beer for the table. Just so long as she comes back to the table and calls me 'honey,' or 'sweetie,' or 'extremely well-built.' Anyhoo, I like this place because they serve me alcohol after work, in the shadow of a Skokie church steeple.

My co-workers used to order lunch from here all the time and have it delivered to our fine working establishment. I figured it was fatty junk food either way and I was going to have to pass on it. However, one day I was starving without a lunch and my best buddy at work ordered a pizza. He continuously offered me to have a piece until I caved. Now I know...why they always ordered from Village Inn. I can't vouch for anything other than their average french fries and really awesome pizza (pepperoni and sausage ::thumbs up::) Especially the peperoni... thin crust I'm usually picky about but this has enough bite and substance in every mouthful that I'm always satisfied and looking for another piece. It's GREASY as hell though. They've got daily beer specials if you're going there to drink (it's a sport's bar after all) and on the website they have coupons that would be of use for people to print out and use if ordering out lunches.

Was expecting to LOVE the pizza at this place because of all the hype. It was just ok, for me, pizza is a hard review because everyone likes different things about pizza, for me its the sauce and I did not love it. We had a few appetizers and they were great, I was especially surprised at some of them, because the place is kind of a dive. We had the onion ring and the asparagus which were both better than decent. I wish my beer was a little colder, but the service was good and I liked the atmosphere. reminded me of a place in the northwoods. I felt very comfortable and will be back again.

As rain descends upon downtown Skokie, I hunch my shoulders and duck into the Village Inn, drawn by its bright fluorescent lighting and promises of a late-night bite to eat. As I order a slice and take up a stool in the to-go room, I find that I have become sandwiched between a group of three DBs drunkenly rambling about "Hangover 2," and a spastic nerfbag doing his best to be inconspicuous while he pages through a George RR Martin novel. As I quickly devour the slightly above-mediocre slice of cheese and sauce and doughy foundation, its temperature barely lukewarm despite its having waited patiently for me under the heat lamps for what can only be hours, I come to realize that this, in all its unpretentious glory, is America.

    (3)
  • Chris H.

It's at best just an ok place. Not quite a dive, not spiffy enough for a sports bar. Food is passible at best. Only thing really decent, and reason why I'm giving as many as 3 stars, is the bartender Linda...totally great classic bartender, otherwise 2 or 1 star.

Good pizza i live right down the street so we have ordered in a few times. Their other items on the menu are pretty consistent as well. I don't care for t the atmosphere, decor is a bit dated and too dark. I feel like I'm coming out of a cave when we leave. Last time I was there, they did rearrange some of the tables and it felt a little more comfortable. I'll probably stick to pick up though.

  • sheena r.

their pizza makes me happy. seriously. thats how it makes me feel. i rarely ever order an entire pizza from here, i usually only go in when i want a slice (or 2 or 3) because 1) they have the best thick crust pizza ever and 2) they are one of the only places i know of that has pizza by the slice in the suburbs that's open late. the bar itself isn't too bad. it's definitely a place where the townies go, which is always nice, and homely. i've actually only had a few drinks there once or twice, and each time my experience was just okay. but i won't take a star away for that. they still get 5 stars, because they will always be my favorite joint for pizza by the slice.

  • Jacob J.

I can agree with some of the other reviews and say that their pizza is one of the best pizzas in Skokie. Located in the heart of downtown Skokie. They've got a shared lot nearby and street parking. Its the bar thats more of the "shine" of this place. You can have a great time here on weekends, a see and be seen of suburban northside peeps. They've got some good alc specials, I'll drop in from time to time for a bucket of domestics and a couple slices.

Would give this place *********ZERO STARS*******if I was able. Pizza is sub par at best. Soggy even for a cheese and sausage. Sausage tasted freezer burnt. Frys were decent. Over priced chicken Philly that had day old green peppers and grilled onions straight from the cooler- they were COLD. Ordered the "Buffalo shrimp" appetizer and what was served to me was butterflied frozen shrimp that you can buy at Marianos hot bar on fridays, served with a tub of hot sauce and wilted celery. I will not recommend this place to anyone and I even tossed out the menu from here at my work as I wouldn't want my Co workers to have the same liss poor experience I had. *********ZERO STARS********

This place is just your average run-of-the-mill pizza joint that'd be good for a junior varsity baseball team gathering, or for a casual brunch with the family, but the prices are a wee overpriced for the quality. I recently had a spaghetti with meatballs, and the meat sauce was just watery, mashed, canned tomato with crushed leftover meatballs masquerading as a "sauce." The bottom of the dish was watery and barely covered the dish. Me and another party had to wait 10 minutes just to get some attention/menus, and another 40 minutes to get our food.

Hot or a miss. Good atmosphere but the service is terrible. They give you these coupons and wristbands for big events, which are useless if you lose it, there goes $10. Never get any of the salads. Waitresses seem to ignore you most of the time. Place for to go pizzas and that's it.

Great fun local restaurant and bar. Huge menus and so far everything is top notch. You want a real meal order the Chicken Parmigiana with soup, and garlic bread. Two meals really. Excellent. Large fun ever changing beers with many unusual craft beers. Great pizza, lots of large t.v.s with different events going on different nights. Kids have fun with the live Trivia ones. A Cheers vibe where the friendly staff does a great job. The owner does great things with Skokie he is a very positive force locally. One minor thing the wood backed chairs are a bit uncomfortable on my back, when we watch a long football game, but that's me. Easy free parking too. One of our go to places.

I was continuing my casing of downtown Skokie with Mrs B., Doofus (my daughter), and her guy (who is named Guy), when a strange man encountered us on the sidewalk. He warned us to not enter a restaurant on Lincoln Avenue and told us that it was no good. Actually, he may have been a mole from a foreign intelligence service who was trying to communicate some important message to me - but I did not catch on. I may have had a senior moment, but I can't remember. For reasons unfathomable, we obeyed his tip and went on to the Village Inn for a pizza. Now, I once lived in Skokie many years ago (1950s and 60s), and the place was then known as La Rosa's Pizza (not the one on Golf Rd): just a historical tidbit for hysterical historians. This place is a bit oddly laid out. The entry foyer has a station for people to order out pizza: it is not for peeps who want to eat in: if you buy pizza at this station, you are directed to a stool and shelf in the foyer facing the street (really!) To eat in, you proceed past the foyer and enter the bar. Then a host(ess) will greet you and seat you in still another room - presumably near the Iowa state line. It's a sports bar, with lots of sports memorabilia plastered and posted to the walls, ceilings, and everything other than the floor. There are TV screens all over the place playing all kinds of sports events to amuse the eating/drinking athletic supporters patronizing the Village Inn. Our waitress greeted us promptly and we ordered a pizza with chicken on it: this fowl topping was an important request from the guy called Guy. Service was efficient, and I was pleased with the presentation and promptness. Pricing was about average for a typical sports bar. However, I didn't think that their pizza was quite to my flavor expectations. All in all, they offer a decent value proposition - and we paid the much lower Iowa sales taxes:)

As soon as you walk in there's this weird wind thing that happens. I'm serious, it's startling. Imagine walking into a place and instantly a strong wind hits you in the face. Anyway, the pepperoni pizza slice was good! It didn't blow me away but definitely competitive. My pizza slice, diet coke and side salad was about $7. But then, when I wanted to eat in the bar area I was told that I couldn't. Apparently if you order at the counter as you immediately walk in, this is a big decision that precludes you from any atmosphere. They should have a sign that says take out only, or "all orders placed here are to be carry out or eaten in the immediate vicinity. The girl said "it's some weird rule". Fine. Id ha e just liked to have known that before my order. Otherwise it was fine. Id go back but it wouldn't be my first choice. On the other hand the bar looks pretty dive bar cool with an older population... so who knows.

I really love coming here to a neighborhood bar to watch a great game of hockey. They have over 30 televisions in this small joint and every inch of this place is lined by televisions so you can watch the game from wherever you are sitting which is nice! There nachos are really great, filled with guacamole, sour cream, jalapeno peppers, ground meat and lots of ooey gooey cheese. They make stuffed pizzas but I prefer their thin crust pizzas loaded with sausage and jalapeno peppers. Their menu of craft beers is EXTENSIVE! So check it out!

This pub has actually been on my list for many years, and in fact I never visited even when I lived in Skokie for 13 years 2 decades ago. It was nice to finally make it in, and the recent enticement that did it was Skokie's summertime promotion of 20% off on selected restaurants on Wednesday nights. I go with 4 stars here with the overall rating boosted based on their surprisingly extensive and nicely priced list of beers on tap, in bottles, and in cans. I would say the pub food is in the ok category. Our party enjoyed their chicken nachos with fresh spicy jalapeno peppers, their cheeseburger and steak fries (for $4 on Wednesdays), and their thin slice sausage and mushroom pizza. The thin pizza was ok and nothing to write home about, but the chicken nachos were a standout for $9.95, and the cheeseburgers/fries were a great value for $4 on Wednesdays anyway. From the taps, I enjoyed pints of their Alarmist Pantless Pale Ale and Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA. Tons of TV's here, and a lively and friendly Skokie crowd. I liked the place (except for the annoyingly loud Bingo PA going on, apparently also on Wednesdays) and plan to be back again sometime driven by their nice beer list, as well as the chill sports bar atmosphere.

A total neighborhood sports bar that's been around for ages. This is our go-to in the area for American bar food. We've come here for NYE and St. Paddy's too when we don't feel like changing out of our sweats. It's that kind of place where judgment doesn't get past the front door. Sometimes you just don't wanna deal with that, you know? Husband's fave nachos are here... we add chicken. The whole dish gets baked, and we just attack it. I get the boneless buffalo wings every time. Sandwiches come with a tater tots option. One thing we didn't like that we tried recently were the tater skins with chili because the chili was oddly sweet. Not sure if you order a bowl of chili if it would be the same? And beware their regular pizza has a pretty doughy, thick crust, which you can buy by the slice. They have a thin crust option too, but I think you have to order the whole pie. Easy street or lot parking all around.

Ordered pizza and wings for delivery. Thin pizza was pretty bad. Inferior mozzarella and dense dry dough. Very hard to bite. Wings were just ok. Not very many sauces to choose from. Medium pizza 3 item and 1 order of wings was $33. Little Caesars is WAY BETTER!!! And cheaper. $2.50 delivery charge not shown on the menu. Don't waste your money or your tastebuds!!!

No such thing as a free appetizer? We come here fairly regularly and really love Cristina the waitperson/bartender. Not too pleased with the loyalty points system, though... Here's a real example text I received this week from their app: "Village Inn: Last chance to use your FREE Appetizer 250 pts offer will be Friday, May 22, 2015. " So here we are on Friday, May 22nd with our usual $70 bill incl tip, after having enjoyed the saganaki, and the Manager comes over to say, "You didn't read the details on the rewards site. The offers are only good Monday through Thursday. Maybe if you come back Sunday I could honor it in our system." WHAT? I think that says it all.

C'mon Skokie peeps, this is a must to at least reminisce if nothing else! Growing up in the area I don't think I ever was a patron inside the establishment even up through my high school youth. It was past that age that I would go back to meet up with friends from high school. I've always known it to be that sort of neighborhood bar/pizzeria place. If anything it's at least a 3 1/2 stars! It's a no frills type of joint, but there are tv's a plenty. Reminds me a little of Marie's in Chicago where you walk into the liquor store first to get to the seating. Almost same concept, you walk into a small walkway that is close to where some of the pizza is made to get into the bar/restaurant. Again, it was Lent and I happened to give up pizza. What was I to do when meeting up with my friends? Well, luckily they have a pretty extensive menu which even covered some seafood options and I went with fish and chips. The food is just okay. The pizza is pretty good (from past experience), but the fish and chips was nothing to write home about. But hey, it's more about the ambiance anyway right? But for a neighborhood bar they have a decent variety in their beer selection. I believe it has changed somewhat in that they also cater a lot to families. So when my husband and I walked in to find my friends I was surprised to see how busy they were. So they were hyping up not only fish fry style meals for Friday, but also that it was the weekend of St Pat's! I think it's great that they have expanded the clientele to not just be the neighborhood sports bar/joint, but also a family establishment. I mean why not, that place has been there since forever. For me it's all about coming back to the neighborhood to hang out and watch a game if you are so inclined without having to go to the mall and go to BW3 or what have you. The wait staff is friendly and you feel like it's a joint you may have gone to with your family back in the day or at least ordered take out from.

I was in a mood for dessert so I ordered chocolate peanut butter cake to go. $5 lady said it's really good, for the price I'm expecting a resonable size slice of cake. But guess I was wrong the cake slice was small I would have paid less for it and the slice they gave me was not complete, bottom half of the cake partially missing looks like someone ate part of it. Disappointed because I like this place for the pizza, guess don't buy dessert from here.

Let's list out what I like 1)Good beer list. 2)Pizza is really good. 3)Chill environment. 4)Service is pretty good. 5)They show UFC fights. Now what I dislike 1)The draft beer are NEVER cold. Like, it's chilled but not cold. So after a few minutes pass, your beer is now room temp. Beer has to be cold to really enjoy. 2)The stools for sitting aren't the most comfortable but that could be just me? That's really about it. Please if you guys read this, just make the draft beer colder.

Village Inn Pizzeria is a Skokie institution - located in downtown Skokie, this place is known for their pizza and being a sports bar and grill that screens all the local sports teams. It's been around since 1990, and my husband and I were excited to finally try this place out. We ordered the Twice Baked Potato (mix of scallions, sour cream, and Parmesan cheese with bacon and cheddar), a small Pepperoni pizza, and a Basic Burger. The potato itself was good with a nice generous portion of melted cheese on top; the pizza was okay, and the crust was pan-sized; it had plenty of pepperoni slices on top, which was a plus! The burger itself was okay, and the side of fries were crispy. I liked how they give you a bowl of popcorn to snack on while you wait for your meal. Service was super friendly and awesome, and I'm glad I was finally about to try this place out. +Twice Baked Potato +generous toppings +friendly staff

Had heard of this place but had never been. It was my bday and had called around at the last minute for reservations at favorite restaurants and nothing was available so We decided to go here. We had boneless hot chicken wings they were awesome! Also ordered the thin crust sausage/pepperoni pizza -- I think this is the best pizza I have had in years!! We have all the big chain pizza joints. I can't wait to take friends and family there from out of town!!!

This little place not only has some of the best thin crust pizza i have had in a long time but their beer and cider selection is pretty decent for a pizza joint. We ordered a pizza package deal for my son's birthday party on Friday and you do get a lot of food for the price. The pizza is nothing special, but it does feed a lot of people. I got a half tray of the chopped salad, which is tasty, and I was surprised at how small the size was. I called Village Inn to see if they forgot a container at the store and the girl on the phone was SO rude. I explained my confusion and it was like she was taking everything personally, not very good for costumer service. I almost asked to speak to the manager about her attitude and tone of voice, but I didn't want to take time away from my son's special day.

Good food, cheap prices for drinks, plenty of TVs and very loud atmosphere for watching the games! My man Harry is the manager too. I'm not a fan of Skokie in general but this and Curragh's are must visits while in the area.

So funny BC you don't think about reviewing the places you go to the most. Me and my fiancée go to the village at least once a week and we love everyone there! (Kimmy, Lillian, Lisa, pam, evelyn omg so many more). We seeing you all!! The food has always been consistent and the service rocks! Billy was al little disappointed that the pool league didn't go through but he'll be just fine :) thanks village!

Try their southwestern steak salad and their thin crust pizza. The deep dish isn't to die. Good mozzarella sticks and fries. Great environment. You should at least give it a try. They also deliver in the surrounding areas.

Came here with a group. Great place for a group hang out. Food is okay. Service needs improvement or add more people to the schedule on game nights. Otherwise, all was good.

Was here recently and Claudia is AWESOME! It's been a while since I was last here but Claudia still remembers my choice of drink, she is always bubbly and smiling, checking in on us often to make sure we're all good with drinks. Pizza is delish and after Claudia recommended the cajun asparagus, that's always a must!

I love the village inn!!! Get the Honey BBQ wings, taco salad, chicken quesdillas, They have the best blue cheese dressing! And my personal fav...the rocky mountain chkn sandwich! Skip the pizza, everything else is just to good!

Pizza is not good. Stay away from it. As for the other food, I can't comment. They don't have a cover charge for UFC, but everyone at your table has to order $10 min., which is not that hard to do. If you're under 21 and want to watch UFC here, go somewhere else. Strictly 21. I would never come here again for anything. This might be the worst place to watch a UFC fight.

I loooooove the pizza here and the rest of the food is pretty good. I like that it's packed on a Friday night and that there are always plenty of friendly people. So why the low rating? Well, their drinks are pretty watered down...every single time I've come here, and I've been here plenty of times. How hard is it to make a good jagerbomb...even their draft beer was so watered down. I would only come back here to get a bottled beer or to eat, never again to drink.

I've only been here once a really long time ago, but to get to the point, it was dissatisfying. We had to wait a while after ordering; the pizza was average and the pasta (alfredo) a bit below. I would have preferred to bake a frozen pie + make my own pasta at home.

We have been going here for a few years now and have always had a great pizza come out their kitchen! They are very accomodating with the order and give you it exactly as you ask. We like the thin crust pizza well done and square cut, yes they will cut it into pie or square cuts on your request. If you like the soft crust then get the pizza cooked normally but if you like the crust "cracker crisp" and the cheese browned to perfection then ask for it "well done". Their deep frid corn nuggets for an appetizer are a change of pace and their Thai chicken breast salad is good as well.

Just went here today for fiance's b-day party. The pizza was great, and the service was pretty good. Best thin pizza I've ever had (I'm much more of a deep-dish girl) No idea what the price range was, because I didn't pay. The atmosphere was very bar-ish. It does have a large bar, and I believe I saw a pool table. There were only a couple windows, and they were blocked off, so it was very dark. Seemed like a great place to hang out. I definitely plan on coming back.

Went here many times for a friend's band - good place to commiserate, beers are good in selection, and pizza is where its at - great thin crust pizza, cheese, pepperoni and/or sausage are all great. Other food items are good as well, but I personally frequent for their pizza, especially since I am a pizza snob for Chicago AND New York style.

We came for sandwiches and beer during the NFC playoffs and the place was packed to the rafters. But a customer at an adjacent table, complaining loudly that she had waited an hour and a half for her grilled cheese sandwich, was a clue that things were not going too well in the kitchen. Our food arrived after a 55-minute wait and my skirt steak sandwich, ordered medium-rare, was a burnt sacrificial offering with the consistency of shoe leather. Our server brought it back to the kitchen and returned with a much more succulent sandwich a few minutes later. We've been here on quieter nights when the kitchen wasn't slammed and always enjoyed their pizza and friendly servers.

The best thin crust pizza around. Mind you i do not like the "carryout" slices because they have a thicker crust. All of the food on the menu is great. and it's a great place to watch a ballgame with your friends.

This is a great place to hang out, eat, watch a game, and drink. The food & drinks are set at a reasonable price. The staff is fast & friendly. Definitely a place at least worth checking out. I am a regular there on the weekends so I do know this place rather well. FYI: Smoker Are Welcomed.

Great place to enjoy your 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox and all their baseball games. Or any other game for that matter. So, if you're looking for a cool and comfortable place to catch a game of any kind with some real-life Superfans surrounding you and a nice frosty brew in front of you, then The Village Inn is for you. Their Chicago-style, thin-crust pizza is the cherry on top. That's an awesome-tasting pie right there. I'm telling you right now, this place isn't fancy, but you'll appreciate the charm and it'll quickly become one of your favorite local joints. Five stars for a collective package of comfort and goodness.

We love the Village Inn. Start with the free parking in the city lot just south. The counter staff has a friendly greeting for everyone who comes in the door. The've got a full menu. We enjoy the pizza, the salads, the soups, and the sandwiches, but there's plenty of choices to satisfy any palate. The prices are reasonable, and the servers are friendly and attentive. Village Inn has on-screen Buzztime trivia all day and evening; live trivia on Tuesday evenings; free Bingo on Wednesday evenings; free pool in the afternoon; monthly beer tastings; and daily specials. What a great, family-friendly place to have a meal and watch the Cubs, Sox, Bears, Bulls, Hawks, and Wildcats! Best of all, Village Inn is a friendly neighbor for the folks in the area. I've seen unruly folks asked to leave. There are signs posted throughout the establishment asking patrons to limit outside noise after 10 pm. Village Inn also sponsors youth teams.

We moved to Skokie about 11 years ago. Everyone said that we needed to got to Village Inn. I've never figured out what "everyone" saw in this place. If it's not greasy or fried or both, I don't think they serve it. Loud, dark bar with plenty of smoke (at least before Skokie banned smoking)--and lots of drunks. And if I'm going to pay the high prices, I might as well go into the city to a better bar!

We have been going to Village in for years, good food at a decent price and the service is friendly and good. We dined there tonight and there was a man with his two sons at the table in front of us, the kids were young and the little one ( maybe 5) walked in carrying a can of orange crush pop, Rebecca who was the server told him that he could not have that, he was standing up drinking it quickly trying to finish it and Rebecca came up to him, took it out of his hands and put it in the trash.. NOW YOU TELL ME, WAS THAT REALLY NECESSARY TO TAKE THAT AWAY FROM THE LITTLE KID ???????? Not so sure I would go back after that !

This the best stuffed ( Chicago style) pizza I ever ate. I ordered it to my room while in Chicago land. I asked for a medium pie. Huge pizza, so loaded ...so good..I actually almost choked on the cheese on the first bite. $15 bucks 1 pizza lasted 3 days in my little hotel fridge. Pounds of cheese, mushrooms....oh God. Topped by another layer of dough, then sauce and parm. Just wished the dough was a bit more cooked The actual place is a gin-mill...long bar, cheap beers, and really nice tender. Can't think of a better pizza/bar ever. Thanks for making my stay in Chicago Delicious

Great pizza and a unique downtown pub for a town dominated by strip malls. I like this little area of Skokie and this place. It is ideal for Northwestern students and others looking for a place aside from crowded lousy Chicago. The poizza was fantastic and the drinks reseasonable. A typical neighborhood bar.

I've been to Village inn twice and loved it both times. It's open late. Pizza's incredible. Nachos are great! They have Blue Moon on tap (!!!!). Service is friendly and with a smile. I have no complaints. Both times I've been there, it was after 9 pm. The food wasn't stale, everything was fresh and in large portions. This is a great place to take your parents for a beer or to meet with friends. I highly recommend you try their pizza and nachos.

I love the thin crust pizza here. I always order a garlic and bacon thin crust pizza, and put Sriracha sauce (a.k.a. Rooster Sauce) on top. It is amazing. The deep dish pizza and saganaki are also pretty good. (The saganaki tastes a bit better if you dine in rather than take-out or delivery, due to the whole "flaming" aspect of preparing it. It doesn't taste that bad, though, if you do decide to get it via take-out or delivery. You just miss out on a cool show when they light it up.) I tried dining in once, but I didn't really like it because I don't like bar atmospheres (I don't drink, plus, it's always very crowded in there. A good sign, I guess. It's crowded as hell during sports games especially.). I just do take-out instead, where pick-up doesn't require you to go into the bar area. They always have your food prepared on time, and the staff is nice and friendly. Note, though, that since it's a bar, those who want to dine in that are under 21 need to be accompanied by somebody who's over that age. The staff remembers the people who come here a lot, which I think is pretty cool. Parking here's a nightmare though, but it IS in the busy part of Skokie, so you know that going in.

The wife and I lived in Skokie for 2 years and this was one of the best places for thick crust pizza. Delivery was always fast and the menu us well priced. If you're looking for a place where you can still smoke - this is it - especially if there is a sports game on. Inside it doesn't feel at all like you're in a pizzeria, it's very much a sports bar feel. You're surrounded by TVs and they're all turned to one type of sport or other. Last I heard about the older woman who hosted - she passed away a couple of months ago.

This is such a friendly bar! The patrons are humorous and the bartenders ROCK! The tap selections is decent. And I love the selection of grub! The fried mushrooms took me back to my southern roots! Tons of Tvs! And plenty of space to congregrate if you have a larger party. Enjoy!

I had not been here in a good 10 years. No real reason, food was decent, okay place. Just not in the area anymore. Went here yesterday for a friend's surprise 50Th B-day party. The place is different than I remember. It used to have a separate dining room and a much smaller bar area.It has since been opened up to one big space, with a much larger bar. Has more of a bar feel than before and the menu is smaller than I remember, but that's fine, as the pizza was very good, super thin and crispy. Also had the Buffalo shrimp-plump large shrimp, fried to perfection and served with the usual hot sauce and blue cheese dressing and celery. For some reason, yesterday I NEEDED hot and spicy and I got my fill. They also have several types of hot sauce on the tables, including a very hot Thai sauce-really went well with the pizza. Service was good and they were accommodating to one of the hosts, who is in a wheelchair. They did not bat an eye when the "Over the Hill" stuff started being unwrapped and was passed around,so thanks for that. Fully stocked bar, some video games, darts and "Game Nights" for regulars. Pool table in the bar, but did not see anyone playing and it was covered,so not sure if it is used. Not a bad place,if you are in the area, prices are fair and food is good. Will come back and try some of the other menu items.3.5 stars, really, but not enough to bump it to 4.

I've been to Village Inn tons of times over the years. The pizza is good, not great. The appetizers, chicken wings nachos, are also decent. Good enough to stop by if you're in the neighborhood. It's a little neighborhood bar that's cozy, but a step above a dive. I would have given the place 1 1/2 stars more, but the SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! Specifically, the blond gal whose name rhymes with Darren. Only her name starts with a "K". If you get her, expect to wait for an eternity. Why you ask? Twice in the last few months I've been there with 3 friends, and twice she completely ignores us for long periods of time. First off, she spends too much time talking to the other servers, then she spends too much time talking to her friends that visit the bar, then she'll go on break for 1/2 hr while you sit there waiting for food and drink. TERRIBLE! The table next to me actually got up and had to find her. Next time I''m in there I will make sure to request any server except her.

The people and atmosphere are great. The food is waaay better than I expected. The menu is extensive. Great for dining in or just hanging out. However if all you have time for is pizza by the slice to go it is worth a visit. The pizza by the way is my favorite thing about the place. By the slice they are thick hearty large slices with a taste that pops. Definitely a stand out in skokie. The place's facade doesn't do it justice. I live in Chicago now and still drive down occasionally just for the pizza.

This place seems popular for their regular customers, but I did not find it too exciting. The pizza was nothing special and the bar was one of those you'd find out in the country.

Village Inn is the main attraction for downtown Skokie bars, sitting in the heart of downtown Skokie. The service is usually good, although at times can be a bit slow. They have a lot of variety on the menu, but I suggest sticking with what you would expect to find at a bar and not trying to venture out. The burgers are great as well as the wings, but the salads are all terrible. Pizza is their specialty and they do it well, deep dish or thin crust. Their sports coverage cannot be matched in Skokie, as you can find any NFL or MLB game you're looking for. Unfortunately, they're a bit behind technologically, as the TVs haven't been upgraded to HD yet. They also show the UFC pay per views but do charge a cover on these nights. The drink selection is solid, with about everything you'd expect at a full bar, but prices are steep for a suburban sports bar (on both the food and liquor). Rarely are there free drinks here, expect to pay for whatever you order. Great place to go watch the game or have a meal, but not as great for just a night out.

This place is a lot like the cheers of Skokie. Great food and friendly people. Go there enough and everyone knows your name. The bartenders and waiting staff are super friendly. I actually lost my wallet here one day while drinking in the bar and it was returned to me the next day. How often does that happen!? This is the place you go to to run into your old high school buddys from Niles North or Niles West, have a beer with them and talk about old times. The female patrons here are pretty attractive and friendly also. I personally have had many a great night Hanging out at the VI.

village inn's onion rings are the real deal! the breading is this panko-like breading that seem to make it extra crispy. we ordered the thin crust pizza and wasn't too bad. i would have left it in the oven just a little longer for a crispier crust all around - the middle section was slightly soft but the outer crust was just right. oh, how can i almost forget to mention that this is great place to go to watch sports as you are surrounded with t.v.s! we used out groupon so it was a fun, and cheap date night. :-)

If you like your pizza with a delicate, crispy crust, then the Village Inn is the place. I freaking love their pizza! As far as thin crust is concerned Village Inn has the best. My hubby & I go there also for the NTN (interactive bar trivia game). It does get a little smoky so beware. The weekends can get packed with youngsters and they even have a DJ only there's a MICRO sticky section in front of the DJ booth to dance. There is a fairly diverse group of people. There's sports on a million TVs. there's a pool table & darts. I really miss the old lady who used to host, I think she was the owner's mom --- she was straight out of a time machine. Think Peg Bundy but like 80yrs old --- she was the cutest.

One of the few places smoking is allowed in Skokie, if that's important to you. The pizza is average, but it's a fun place to come after work with friends. A lot of people at my job come here occasionally.
