My daughter and I have been coming here for years and we love it. It's a small, quaint place in downtown Skokie with great prices and we always receive good service. We like most of the appetizers, the Thai crispy crepe, the salads, the pad thai and pad see eiw; I especially love the sizzling salmon and the panang curry with your choice of protein. I like the chicken. They have curry in a variety of heat levels, but the panang is perfect for me. Just the right amount of kick. I don't know about the few negative reviews I read; we have a few thai restaurants in the area and have never had a bad experience. This is in our top two! I even like the coffee candy they give you with your check. They are open til 9 during the week and 10 on Saturdays. Try them out!

I was out doing some errands, when I started to get hungry. There was a parking spot open, so I stopped in. What really caught my eye was the crab pad thai on the menu. Not imitation crab, mind you, but the real thing. It was super-rich and flavorful, complete with a crab claw garnish! I'd never seen that before. There were several other dishes on the menu that looked good, but there was no more room in my belly. I think I'll be coming back, next time I go shopping.

Ok place. Standard Thai fare. The lunch specials are good deals. Just a bit inconsistent with the service which makes it a bit disappointing. Bout all I can say.
(3)Julie S.
Authentic Thai food. Love the atmosphere & portions are pretty big. I usually order pineapple fried rice, beef in peanut butter sauce, pad Thai, green curry and Thai ice tea. Good service nice people now they open on Sundays too! :)

Delicious food and excellent service right in downtown Skokie! I've been there twice and each time it has been terrific.

Came in for the lunch special and the service was quaint, the lunch diners were many and boisterous and the food was tasty and the service was fine. We'll be back for the $35 dinner for two. It's great to know that good Thai food is right here in the neighborhood. Sorry for my previous one star review, sometimes we lose perspective of what's really important.

I was at a chase bank just driving through Skokie and happened to see a Thai joint on the corner of my eye lol. As I was walking to the entrance to Tub Tim Thai they were playing Thai music outside the entrance which was pretty cool lol. Gave me the full Thai experience ha ha. I always order the Chicken Penang at any Thai joint I go to. This place was very clean and the food was brought up quick . Overall great service and I know where to get my Thai on if I'm ever in Skokie lol

If you're looking for the best Pad Thai, search no further because this is by far the place to go. Love the chicken panang curry highest spice level! Pretty decent price for the amount of food serving!

I'm gonna pull my Thai cuisine snob card and say as someone who's had homemade Thai food as well as worked in a Thai kitchen, I wasn't all that impressed by this place. Not to say it was bad, just underwhelming. Came here after a signing next door at Aw Yeah Comics feeling pretty peckish. Ordered the curry puffs, which were alright. I finally decided on the curry soup with egg noodles. It basically amounted to yellow curry with chicken with egg noodles and topped with crispy egg noodles. The curry was tasty, but the chicken felt overcooked and tough. It didn't have a soup-like consistency, more like the curry that would be served with rice. Maybe I picked the wrong dish, but as it stands, I can't see myself coming back here just to eat. Maybe if Aw Yeah has another after hours social and I'm hungry afterwords...

I have only ordered take outs from here Based on my experience, noodle type dishes tend to cluster up even when reheated. But they still retain their flavor. I suggest a bigger take out box so that the noodles don't stick together as much. Still, the flavor and portions are nice for the price.

Just walked in Did not know what to expect it was cold out I prefer Chinese food so they Did not have egg drop soup and I Did not order anything they were really being mean to the people that were moving out from upstairs well to the movers so I decided that I Did not want to order anything went to go check out the spot 5 doors down and they were very good and friendly. Anyone who thinks they own the sidewalks just because they own the business is too much for me

Great food. Place is very clean and service is great. The pricing is reasonable and the menu has plenty to choose from. Went with the family and enjoyed our meals. Will be back and recommend to anyone.
(4)Emilia T.
I used to love this place but I feel like their chef is different nowadays and only thing I order from there (vegetarian Pad Kee Mao) is not as enjoyable as before. I used to think they have the best i have ever tried. It is still pretty good, just not the same ....
(4)Sana B.
I've only come here a few times because it's way over priced for the quantity given. Thai basil chicken is amazing though. I crave it often, but I can't bring myself to spend that much when there are other places in Skokie that are just as good with reasonable prices. I just think that when you have a small business, you have the ability to know who your regular customers are and show your appreciation, as they will too by bringing more customers and business. They definitely don't do that. But if you go, get the Thai basil.

So, I have a cousin that is from Skokie and for quite awhile insisted I check out Tub Tum Thai. He and his wife had enjoyed meals here many a time and considered this a grade A Thai option. We should also note that this restaurant is Michelin rated for a couple years now including the current calendar year (2014). Another quick note. About thirty years back I was having tea with my father and a restauranteur on Devon in Chicago. This Indian restauranteur had mentioned that at a Restaurant Expo (of the time), during a message on expanding business of ethnic foods to Americans it was suggested to add sugar to entrees. Saying that Americans enjoy sugar and find it palatable to try new cuisines if sweetened. So how do I feel about TTT? I wrote this review in my head the day I dined here which was a few days back. There was a word that came to mind immediately but I tried and tried to find another, nicer word to explain the flavor. The only descriptive word I can think of is revolting. This is specific to the amount of sweetness found throughout every course. For example, the Chive dumplings had a sweetness in the chive mixture found within the dumpling. The soy sauce which accompanied was a sweet soy, a thickened sauce. Another appetizer we dined on which is similar to an Indian samosa also contained sugar. All of what was ordered had a level of sweetness that wasn't thrilling. We asked that everything ordered be "spicy", opting for some in medium level (for a child) and higher (for us). Nothing was spicy. You may like to ask for extra spicy. (From one Thai restaurant to the next, the level of spicy is hard to relate...unfortunately. Sometimes I may tell a waiter "make me sweat") Regarding service. We thought it stunk. Our waiter had a nice smile but beyond that, no personality or ability to relate. When asked to pack some take away she asked "you really want that packed up??" Damn that was snotty. She wasn't asked to pack a tablespoon of food, we are talking about two servings of food. Weird. Four diners and a child, three entrees, some appetizers and soups. Total about ninety some dollars before tips. Mucho expensive for Thai food, if you ask me. I've had far better for much less, needless to say this is a one and done experience I won't relive. Diabetics beware; sugar found in entrées and appetizers. One within our group was a type 2 and maintains a daily level of 95 mg. Testing a few hours after our meal came in at 121 mg.

First time ordering for delivery and they are fast and their food is fresh and delicious ! The chicken and curry puffs are a great flaky crust appetizer for my pork basil fried rice which you can tell was freshly prepared . The cucumber on the side are like little refreshers between the bites. Will def order from here again..

After reading the other reviews here, I was expecting good Thai food. I have to say I'm incredibly disappointed.. I ordered the Pad Thai with pork. Something simple, yet it was incredibly bland. There was no flavor to it and they replaced over 3/4 of my pork with tofu. I understand it's a way to save money, but dear god! I had only a few pieces of pork! Their actual food price is overpriced in my opinion. The portion size is small as well. I would pass this place by, it's really not worth your time.

Okay so I was visiting a friend in Skokie and suddenly got a craving for some Thai food, it was around 2pm so I knew I would just make the lunch special which includes an $8 entree with a small salad and an appetizer. When I came in, it's a small quaint little place with decent seating, but at the last minute I decided to carry out since I had somewhere else to go. Okay, so they get one star for a nice comfy restaurant and there's definitely some street parking available since this is place is right in the heart of Skokie on Oakton Street. The girl who took my order wasn't very friendly and when I asked for a substitution to the lunch special she wasn't overly happy to do it. And what I hate is what she did next, when I asked her something that she wasn't happy to accommodate, she could have politely said "Sorry, we can't make that substitution." But instead, she started talking about me to her coworker in Thai, I mean, really? There were like 2 other tables there, it just wasn't necessary. Obviously, I don't know what she was saying, but it was just unprofessional and I almost wanted to cancel my order right there and then since I'm Russian and I know how to speak another language, but I would never do that in front of a customer, making it clear to that customer that I'm talking about them. Well, anyhow, as social of a person as I am, I knew I wasn't there to make friends. I ordered two lunch specials to share with a friend, one was a chicken pad Thai and the other was a pad see ew since there were only like 3 noodle options available period for lunch, that's it, so they lose two stars now, one for not the best customer service and another one for a small lunch selection. Okay, I got my Thai food and the salad was oh so eh, the appetizers were fried pot stickers which weren't warm, so another eh and the noodles were just not tasty and I decided I would never go back from that moment on. I could deal with someone not being friendly, but the pad Thai was almost in like a white creamy sauce, it makes me wonder, what did they put there and the pad see ew had so many vegetables and cut up asparagus I believe, which I am not a fan of asparagus nor was it mentioned at all in the menu, and were very skimpy on the actual noodles. The sauce on the pad see ew was better than the pad thai. It was a super cold day, and all I wanted were some hot noodles to share with a friend, but we were both very disappointed in the quality of the food, so that's another star down. So overall, I know many much better Thai restaurants serving much tastier noodles that I wouldn't ever come back here. They do get a few stars for having a cute setup and being a "peaceful" little place playing some relaxing Asian music while you eat.
(2)Bridget S.
Ordered lunch here for pick up during the week. I got a pad thai lunch special with chicken. The quality was just okay. The texture and presentation seemed more like a Chinese takeout place. The appearance was kind of a turn off. I was expecting more color, vegetables etc. But the noodles and chicken were soaked in what looked like some kind of white creamy sauce that you would find in a pasta place. I didn't request spicy, but what I got did not seem like thai food. It didn't help that they had replaced a lot of the chicken with tofu too. Maybe they only do that for lunch specials, but they should really put it on the menu.
(3)David O.
Got a chicken pad thai to go. Pretty dry, and not much chicken for what I spent. Speaking of which, they won't do CC purchases under $10. How annoying. I'll have to eat in with a date or family member for my next visit and try something else.

My wife and I have typically gone to Ruby of Siam in Skokie when we wanted Thai but have found it to be a little on the pricey side, and so decided to try Tub Tim Thai. Actually, we googled the menu and found it on allmenus.com where we noticed that the prices were cheaper than Ruby of Siam. Unfortunately, when we got there and looked at the menu, we realized that the prices on allmenus.com were outdated and had all gone up. I understand that this is not Tub Tim's fault, but they probably should be aware of this and they're no longer a good value when compared to Ruby of Siam. We ate there on Xmas eve with our 3 young children. We ordered the cucumber salad, which my wife described as underwhelming. It turned out that underwhelming would be the theme for our entire dinner. I ordered the panang curry and my wife ordered the yellow curry, both dishes with chicken. While my panang curry was edible, it was just that. The chicken was soft and rubbery and the flavor was, well, underwhelming. My wife could not eat the chicken, and ended up just eating the rice. Even the steamed vegetables and the steamed asparagus were barely edible. We also ordered the Pad See Ewe for the kids with chicken. I didn't try it but my wife, who by now was clearly unhappy, also called it inedible. The one upside, and the reason that I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars rather than 1 star is that the service was very good. The waitress was friendly and attentive and we never needed to ask for a water refill. Although there are dessert items on the menu, we were not offered dessert and would have hastily declined if we were. I hate to bash a local restaurant, as I really do want to see local Skokie businesses thrive, but this restaurant just isn't worth your dining dollars.

My husband and I went to this place after our movie today. We went there with great mood cos the movie was great. However, we left there with full of angry! We arrived there 8 ish, the restaurant was empty, which made us the only customers there. We ordered one large size soup to share, one app and two entrees. The soup, the app and the basil pork were just OK, cos we didn't have high expectation on this little local restaurant. Then we had the beef curry or beef with curry flavour?... cos I couldn't define the dish was a curry. It was like a watery soup with no salt at all. We indicated the problem of the dish, but our server not even tried to offer to re-cook the dish, she just simply brought our some salt. of course, we did not touch that dish anymore. Our server did not check back on us until we finish our meal. She saw we didn't touch the beef curry and offered a re-cook option. I refused because we were full. She brought our check and charged on the beef curry. I was so shocked because I felt stupid to pay for something I didn't have. She said she had to check with her manager. A guy came out from kitchen after few mins and he refused to deleted the charge from our check, because they didn't think the food was bad to them. My husband didn't want me to argue with them because of a 10 bucks dish. However, the reason I argued was not because of the money, it was because that's was a wrong way to treat there only customer! Anyway, my husband was right that they have their choice how to treat customers, and we have our choice to choose a restaurant. AND, NO, DO NOT GO THERE TO MAKE YOURSELF STUPID!

I found my Thai spice! Stumbled upon this place when I was in Skokie and I am happy to say that I did! The waitress was friendly and happy to give me some recommendations. I had yellow curry, spicy beef salad, tom kha (ordered tom yum, but was pleased with the tom kha) and sticky rice. The beef in the salad was over cooked and dry but the flavors were fantastic! The yellow curry had the potatoes, carrots and broccoli on the side which was different but nothing you couldn't combine on the plate yourself. I love sticky rice and was happy to see the waitress did not look at me sideways when I ate my dinner with my hands slopping the plate with my sticky rice (it is a Thai way to eat things that makes a lot of sense and the way I learned it while spending time in Thailand - so I was not being an animal :)). The tom kha was nice but needed the extra kick of spice or it may have fallen on the sweet side and there was a lot of broth compared to ingredients which I found a little disappointing. The spice range was 1-4. I had 2 & 3 and I found the kick to be just what I wanted. I like spice so if you don't you may want to stick to 1 or 2, as 3 was pretty spicy hot. I would definitely go back the next time I am in the area. The price was reasonable and the portions generous. It is probably more a 3.5 stars, but it took me a long time to find Thai food that wasn't sweet and had a kick! Something important to say here is that this is a THAI restaurant! Not a Thai, Chinese, Japanese concoction that I have seen around. Once a restaurant starts branching out to multiple cuisines, it loses the authenticity and heart. Right now, there is construction out front and parking is tough but you can park out front, it just looks like you can't.
(4)Marina K.
One of the worst pad see ewes I have ever had. And the food was brought out 3 minutes after I ordered which makes me seriously doubt the freshness of the dish.
(2)Linda L.
I usually come here during lunch. I have tried quite many dishes. I recommend Meang Khom for appetizer, it's really good. I tried Ruma Beef, it was kind of sweet. The Pad Ke Mao & Pad See Ew are good. Oh they have my favorite dessert. Fried banana. Highly recommended. The price is acceptable. Lunch special for $8.

The other day my lunch pals and I were talking about Chinese food in Chicago. In my super small hometown, Chinese food is the only Asian option even remotely nearby, and together with Mexican food, it's one of the only ethnic options at ALL. So it's a staple in those communities, but here in the city, Thai food is where it's at -- fresher, more interesting, and less steeped in Americanized, gelatinous tradition. But even Thai food in the city can start to seem uniform, so when my coworkers told me TTT was unusual, I was excited to try it. Their lunch special is super reasonable and I always take some home. The pad thai is sweeter and saucier than what I get elsewhere, and the noodles are thinner and I think glass noodles instead of rice. Pad thai chicken has both chicken and tofu, which is a nice changeup. They do the tofu right, too.
(4)Mad I.
Decent.... would try it again perhaps... Had the chicken pad see ew for lunch, lots of chicken and broccoli rhab, but I'm usually in it for the wide noodles! lol Chicken pad thai disappointed a little bit, no crunchy factor.
(3)Angelus K.
This restaurant has received a lot of positive reviews on here, so I was confident I would enjoy it; Though after experiencing them first hand I have to say it was a disappointment. My girlfriend and I LOVE thai food, and order thai pretty often. Being new to Skokie, and this being the closest thai to our new house, we've ordered from here a few times. The red curry I ordered smelled pretty bad..it was a turnoff even before tasting it. The vegetables tasted old and while it was seasoned very spicy (as I like it) there wasn't much else to taste. My girlfriend orders pad thai with pork pretty regularly and does so from here when we get takeout; Every time without fail there has been at least two thirds of the pork replaced with tofu, presumably so the restaurant can shave some money off the order. On one occasion there was as little as TWO pieces of pork only. While I can understand that this practice is common in many thai places, I don't think I've ever felt as cheated. The interior is pretty cramped as well, it's very cluttered. My girlfriend who is an asthmatic found it hard to breathe inside with the crowded atmosphere. In all, while service is relatively fast I feel that's the only thing this restaurant had going for it. We recently discovered a new thai restaurant a little further down the road "Bangkok Wok" and were blown away by the difference in quality. With that discovery, I doubt we'll be ordering from Tub Tim again which is too bad because it's so close by. My suggestion, save your money and pass this place by. The quality here was just too cheap and the prices too high to really enjoy.
(1)Kristina K.
Food was good but pretty expensive... For one adult and two young kids total was $42.00 for 2 main dishes, chicken satay and Tom yum soup!!! I've had better food for this price!
(3)Tom K.
I don't know what it is about this place, but this place makes me sick every time I eat it. My wife was fine, but my stomach just doesn't agree with it. The pad thai is alright, and pad see ewe just meh too. Ruby of Siam is better, even though it cost more.
(2)Leah L.
I wish I'd written this review just after my meal so that I could tell you exactly what I ordered, so you could go and get the very same dishes -- they were all delicious! Both our waitress and the restaurant manager stopped by the table to give us recommendations for dishes to try and ones they enjoy. The Tom Yum was a perfect soup to warm up with on a chilly mid-winter afternoon. Amongst the dishes sampled was definitely the Meang Kum, which includes every flavor you associate with Thai food, all wrapped neatly in a little chapoo leaf. Green Curry is a favorite of mine, and although I like spicy food, I played it safe in requesting a "level 2" that balanced the heat nicely with the flavors of the curry. I know we ordered at least two other dishes, which left us with plenty to take home. I regret not having tried the pumpkin custard, but it's all the more reason to return soon.
(5)Kevin Y.
Had to try this spot as it has consistently been Michelin Guide recommended. Maybe that made me set my expectations too high. I ordered take out and had the Pad Kee Mao and Green Papaya Salad. The Green Papaya Salad was refreshing, slightly funky from the dried shrimp and fish sauce, and had a nice burn. However at the same price as my noodle dish, I'd rather just stick to noodles in the future. The Pad Kee Mao was a bit better than most other renditions I've had of this dish. I ordered it at a spice level of 3 out of 4 and it was a bit too spicy for me at times. Tub Tim Thai is the best option for Thai in the area and an above average place for Thai in the Chicago area.
(3)Lisa A.
Still as good as it was 3 years ago when I first reviewed. I like their Hungry Hound App special...Meung Kum, Thai Crispy Crepe, Salmon Curry and we chose Papaya Salad. All of it was good and the dessert was delectable! Wish they were open on Sundays.
(5)John S.
First visit. Spring rolls were good. Tom Yum soup was spicy & flavorful. It only had your one ingredient and white mushrooms floating on top (which seemed odd). I had Pad Prik with pork, light in flavor and had white & green onions with steamed broccoli & carrots on the side (not very Thai). I wouldn't agree that this restaurant is close to traditional Thai as another review had written. Service was good & very polite, setting was nice. Slightly pricy for what you get. I will go back to try other things. *I did go back and they have improved the Tom Yum soup to be a little more authentic. I also had the Pad Thai, they use a different style of noodle than most other spots but it's still good.
(3)Diana J.
I tried this place out for the first time today, and am glad I did. I have heard a lot of hype about it, and was worried that it would be packed at 12:45pm, but it wasn't. It was wide open. I should have gotten an entree meal, but I couldn't resist the lunch specials so I went with Pad See Ew. I asked for it spicy and they have a 1-4 spice level. I went with a safe 2, and I'll say it was just the way I wanted it: didn't have me sweating but tasted great. My lunch date had the Thai style chicken and chicken satays which he says were excellent. The service was great, and they didn't mind that we stayed to chat after eating since we weren't keeping anyone from having a seat (I'm assuming). The restaurant is medium sized, and they seemed to have regulars that come in throughout my time there which was nice to see. Parking wasn't easy, but it was not much effort to park down one block and walk to eat here. I'll definitely be coming back.
(5)Richard R.
Best Thail food in the Chicago area. Loved the Yum Woon Sen salad and the Meang Kum appetizer. Just like I had in Bangkok. Ginger, lime, roasted coconut and more on a tasty chappoo leaf.
(5)Andrea S.
My boss is always recommending this place and the ratings on Google were high so the bar was set high. Unfortunately we ordered Pad Thai, Lar Nar, Pad Woon Sen, Crab Ragoon & pot stickers. You can tell the crab ragoon had freezer burn. Over all was tasteless, noodles were over cooked and simply sloppy. Never again ...$60 disappointment.
(1)Patricia L.
One of my favorite things about this place is simply its ambiance. I like the idea of displaying work of local artists on their walls without them overpowering the overall ambiance of the place. It still feels like a quaint authentic Thai please to me regardless. Came here one evening for a birthday celebration. Dinner for 6. We all agreed to order different entrees so I was able to taste a little bit of everything. The Meang Kum ($6, Fresh Chapoo leaves topped with roasted coconut, sun-dried shrimp, diced ginger, shallots, lime, peanuts and Thai hot pepper on the side served with its original sauce) is a must-try. Merely to experience what Chicago Tribune was talking about after making the "Best of 2008" list. I had the Pad See-Ewe ($8 Stir-fried wide noodles with choice of meat (tofu), Chinese broccoli, and egg) and finished off my dining experience with a glass of Thai Iced Tea. If you're in the area, pay this place a visit. Downtown Skokie Reinvented, indeed.
(4)John T.
Solid restaurant for carryouts. Yellow curry with chicken and stir fry vegetables with shrimp are fresh, nice folks.
(4)Edward M.
The food was good but not great, and overpriced. There were some unusual dishes that one does not find at most Thai restaurants, and the flavors were good. The worst part about the experience was the service. We ordered Tom Yum soup for three, but the server only gave two spoons. It took some time to get her attention for a third spoon. We split some of the dishes, but had to use the same plates we used for the appetizers. The main courses dishes all tasted like the vinegar in the salads. The server offered to bring us tea, and then charged $2 per cup.
(2)Kathy P.
Nice place. Prices good. Service was good. Thai pastry is better place to go. Crab rangoons had too much dough not enough filling. Cucumber salad was fine. Pad Thai was flavorful and above average. Pad see ewe was bland and needed more sauce. Overall a decent place to eat but there r better choices for Thai food in Chicago.
(3)Don F.
They are okay, but too sweet. I find it strange how so many places go for such a sweet taste instead of a natural better taste. We love Thai food, with the yellow ginger with the lemongrass. They have lunch specials that have a good price with a combination of several items.
(3)S S.
Excellent Thai food. Nice flavors. Its not bland like other Thai places. They could do a better job with the service.
(4)elizabeth r.
The food was awesome ,. simply delicious, I went back there a second time, we tried a few of the entrees and the Meang Kum, it was different and had a unique flavor to it. value for money.
(4)Dancing T.
I love this restaurant! The food is sooooo YUMMY! I was so happy when a friend suggested it. I no longer have to go into the city to get authentic thai food. The staff is amazing and the place is very clean.
(5)Dhruv P.
Very good thai food and not as greasy as so many other places. The prices are reasonable, the quality of food is stellar, and the owner and people who work there are friendly. I feel a little bad its in the location it is. I'm not sure if they get all the traffic they deserve. I would get there food many times during tax season as I work nearby. The fried rice is healthy and the pad thai is delicate and not overbearing. They can make it very spicy for those that want to sweat away (i.e. me) and can deliver if you are close and they aren't too busy. The owner I believe has some health problems and went on a vacation from what I heard, but he has been always healthy and has tried to impart that onto the food that he makes. They are still open and still as good.
(4)Jeanne K.
This place is a delight. The service is attentive and friendly. The food is fresher and the tastes are cleaner that your average Thai place. It's on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for.
(4)Matthew S.
Tonight I ordered dinner from Tub Tim Thai and I was really disappointed by how much we spent and how little food we got. For $9 we got three really small pieces of Thai fried chicken that was supposed to be an entree. It tasted awesome but it was more like an appetizer. We called the restaurant and the women on the phone said the manager would call us back. I am still waiting for the phone to ring. The food was ok but everything that happened will keep me from ever coming into that restaurant or ordering out. I usually don't give really low reviews or complain but when our bill came to $38 and everything was appetizer sizes that made me angry. When the manager never called...that was just enough to make me go on Yelp and cry like a bitch. Ruby of Siam is much much better!
(1)Erica B.
yum! here you can order pad thai with no fish sauce and it TASTES GOOD. the portion is large, although its about a dollar or two more than your typical thai resturant, i think its delicious and worth it. We dined in a few times and the service has always been friendly.
(4)Marcee W.
Good, fresh food. Pleasant, efficient service. A little pricey for Thai (almost $60 for dinner/desert for two). Spring rolls were fresh and tasty and the papaya salad was a pleasant surprise. Chicken pad thai was on the sweet side and thai style fried chicken was a nice twist. Sweet rice with taro and fried banana with ice cream were a great way to end a tasty dinner.
(3)Alex M.
Was seeking some Thai food one night, and Yelp led me here. My colleague and I dined and then spent another two hours loitering and working on some business. The place had free wifi. It's not any kind of fancy place, but more the typical family-owned restaurant. The food was delicious and the desserts even better. The service was friendly and attentive.
(4)Laura S.
I went to this place after my mom saw "The Hungry Hound" feature it. I already have a Thai place in Evanston that I have been going to for years but decided to give this one a try. I'm so glad I did! The staff were so friendly and attentive, and the food was truly delicious. I will definitely go back again and I may just switch my Thai place to here! My favorite part about this place was that I could tell that the staff were proud of what they were serving. Our waitress suggested several things and I got them all. She explained the ingredients and where they came from. Definitely try the Meang Kum appetizer and Sweet Rice with Mango for dessert!

I just ate this not even 2 hours ago so it's not even fully digested. I just needed to share this with everyone! Get the Chef Special #1 (It might be something different later. Soo... Go. Right now.): Your choice of curry (I got Panang Curry) poured over a sizzing plate of Grilled Salmon. I wasn't expecting it to be entertaining when I got my food, but my server came out, put the tray down 5 feet away from me, and poured the little pot of curry onto the skillet of Salmon (over grilled asparaus) and it was sizzling and smoking and it smelled ah-mazing. It tasted even better than I thought it would! I'm recently trying to eat spicy food so I chose 2 out of 4 on the spiciness scale when she asked, but it's Thai food and I'm suuuuuuuch a wimp so it was more of like a 3 of 4 on my own scale. I didn't care though because the curry was delicious and I sniffled and held back tears as I finished the plate. While it's not the cheapest thing ($6 more than the regular plate of curry because of the salmon, so $15 total) on the menu, I definitely think it's worth getting. The portions aren't huge but who said they should be? This is how we Americans get so obese! Overall, I loooooooved it and I'm so glad I went.

Bought a few entrees and I was not disappointed. They have one of the best pad thai's I ever tried.
(5)Glenda C.
This place is very underwhelming. The crab rangoon had an unusual fishy taste to them. The pad thai was sooo sub par. I would never eat here again.
(2)Stathis M.
Horrible experience. Have been here several times but will never be returning. Horrible service and the food was worse unfortunately. The spring rolls were chewy and tasted like they had been sitting in the back of a fridge for weeks. Crab Rangoon was clearly frozen, store bought and tasted of old un-fresh oil (deep fryers need oil changes too!) - overall disappointed. Skipped the entrees and left. They did not offer to make it right even though we clearly rejected everything they gave us.

This was the first time I been here and I was very impressed! The menu offered a wide variety of Thai dishes. Also there were a number of specials to choose from. My party ordered one of these specials which consists of: tea, appetizer, 2 entrees and a salad for a great deal! All of the food was very tasty and served quickly! After you are impressed with the food you the restaurant also has travel pamphlets for Thailand. I will be back and look forward to that meal,
(4)Dorothy Joy B.
Awesome food. Try the Meang Kum, very authentic thai food. Of all the thai restaurants ive tried, tub thim is the only one that has it. Very good service too.
(5)Holly D.
We were visiting the area because we had a concert at Ravinia. Just walked by this place and decided to stop in. Such a good idea! This place is so good! I got the tofu pad thai and I have to say, it may be the best that I have had!!! Just enough heat, cilantro, peanut taste... perfection! My man had the green curry and it was also amazing. I am not a huge fan of curry but this stuff converted me! We also got the tofu eggrolls with plum sauce and a side of peanut sauce and it was all delicious. They also had lunch specials going on at the time which included a salad, appetizer and entree. The interior is pleasing enough and the staff was very friendly and always right on time with refilling beverages. If I find myself in Skokie again, I will definately go back to Tub Tim Thai!

My sister and I took our mom here for a birthday lunch last week. I had heard such good things about this place so I was pretty excited. Oh well. My sister thought the portions were on the small side and although I was sated when finished, that was about it. Nothing to take home. Mom had a cashew chicken dish, I had green curry w/ chicken, medium hot, daughter had beef lard nar and my sister had pad thai. Everyone else was ok with their meals but I just had a couple little issues...my curry wasn't spicy enough, definitely not medium. The chicken had that cottony, leftover turkey taste, like it was pre-cooked over the weekend and heated up. The atmosphere was pleasant enough and they display the work of local artists, which is nice. I don't think I'll be back though, there are better Thai places in Skokie.
(2)Tim H.
I've only been here once, having read about the place a long time ago when it was reviewed by the Trib's Monica Eng. Monica knows her food, and this place was great last night. The food was very nicely presented and was tasty. Spiciness can be adjusted to your liking. Service was slow, but cordial and efficient. Portions were pretty small, however, so you might want to take that in consideration if you want some take home. Prices are fair, reflecting, I guess, the overall high quality of the food and the very nice presentation--which is much better than your average Thai place. The outstanding dish last night was an appetizer: Meang Kum (it's highlighted on the menu for good reason). You MUST eat this! It's described on the menu as "Fresh Chapoo leaves topped with roasted coconut, sun-dried shrimp, diced ginger, shallots, lime, peanuts and Thai hot pepper on the side." Oh yeah, eat this, but be wary of the "Thai hot pepper on the side." They are HOT! The room was very pleasant, with nice art work. It was pretty loud last night, when the house was full, but certainly tolerable.

I had known about this place for a while, but I'd never gone in. Traditionally, the restaurants on Oakton had been mediocre at best, so I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The service was great and the food was delicious. I especially loved the chicken curry puff appetizer. There also was a wine list that was more varied than I expected and had some good deals. I will definitely be returning soon.
(4)Mike M.
Nice atmosphere and very attentive staff, although the food portions are smaller than usual. Tum Yum soup was nice and spicy (they will ask you to order it according to a scale of 1-5) and very flavorful. The Lad Nar was also tasty. Overall, I'd come back if they promise to up the portion sizes, which for most of us would probably be enough.
(3)Sarah W.
I love this place! Great food, great prices, great people, great atmosphere, great everything! You get seated quickly, and the people there frequently check up on you to see if you need anything. The food is very inexpensive for the quality, and I LOVE their Thai Fried chicken. Try the Thai Fried Chicken when you go. Chrissa K.
(5)Joshua O.
This place has great food and the staff really cares about the quality. My favorite dish here is probably the Crispy Crêpe and every time I order it to go they actually try to steer me clear of it. Why? The steam that accumalates in the container causes it to get less crispy. Luckily I live close by so it's never been too much of an issue. Now if they were only open on Sunday...
(4)Rita P.
The food is really really good, this is the place that turned me on to Thai food. The portions are filling. Everything is fresh and not drenched in heavy sauce. I'm so glad this place is in my neighborhood. If you are in a rush however, you need to let the wait staff know. BYOB!
(4)Anna Z.
Delicious food, courteous staff, pleasant atmosphere... what more can you ask for? The food is always fresh, flavorful, and with just the right amount of spice. We will drive 10 minutes past a closer Thai restaurant just to go to Tub Tim Thai. I very much enjoy the chicken pot stickers and fried tofu appetizers. I have also had a few of the entrees, including cashew chicken/tofu, sweet and sour chicken, and stir-fried vegetables. And the Thai iced tea is excellent!
(5)Catherine W.
This place is a decent Thai option in the Northern suburbs, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. The menu is not that extensive, though there area a few more authentic dishes. It was a clean and pleasure decor. The dishes didn't stand out to me though among other Thai restaurants in Chicagoland.
(2)Phil R.
Great food and great friendly service! My son and I found this on yelp and where very happy. Nice atmosphere also!
(4)Freddie F.
I just ordered delivery from this place and I'm SUPER excited about it. I found Tub Tim Thai through Yelp (of course) and then realized that it's right down the road from me...I had no idea! I ordered the Chicken Curry Puffs and Lad Nar w/Chicken. The delivery guy showed up ten minutes after I ordered. He was very friendly and didn't seemed bothered that my 2.5yr old son kept saying HI over and over (some delivery guys seem annoyed). The Curry Puffs are AMAZING. They're so fresh, so tasty. Like little samosas, but better. The Lad Nar is great. Pretty standard, but flavorful and a good portion. I'm definitely going to order from these guys again!

I cannot express my great joy in finding a restaurant that I like in Skokie. After living in Chicago for the past few years where I've been spoiled rotten with many eating establishments to choose from, Skokie is a stark contrast of desolation in eating. Enter Tub Tim Thai. My brother and I decided to grab lunch here yesterday. It wasn't very busy, so the wait staff was extremely attentive. We ordered a ton of food - veggie egg rolls (they were small, but there were many - and great plum sauce to go with it!) and cucumber salad for appetizers. I ordered the pad thai and actually finshed all of it, save a few bits of tofu. Let it be known that I rarely finish all of my dishes when I go out. My brother ordered the Lard Nar and said that it was delicious... also finishing his place. The woman waiting on us told him he did a good job. We will definitely be returning here again. It's very clean and warm and inviting with great food, good sized portions, and very affordable.
(4)Richelle T.
Gotta say that I've had better Thai food. We ordered the fresh spring rolls, meung kum, pad Thai and beef curry. The portions were much smaller than most restaurants. The beef curry was the only thing that I liked. Try star of Siam, dao restaurants if you are in downtown Chicago.
(3)Ngoc H.
The food here is way up there in terms of how fresh the food comes out. One of the best places for Pad See Ewe in my opinion. Soups are delicious too. Staff is very friendly and the place is clean. It isn't always hard finding parking somewhere out front.
(5)Natasha L.
Meh - expecting more since it was Michelin recommended. Not bad but when I'm in the mood for Thai, this would not be my first choice.
(2)Brian W.
I was looking for a good place to grab some Thai food before heading over to Old Orchard Mall. This place definitely satisfied my yearning for some Thai food. We started off with the Crepe. Yeah, that's right, a crepe at a Thai place, nevertheless, it was not your typically crepe and was very delicious, lots of different flavors. Following the appetizer, I had the Panang Curry, which did not disappoint. I was definitely please with my visit. The food was good and the service was excellent. PROS: Good Food, Great Service, In Skokie (Near Old Orchard) CONS: In Skokie (Not in the City)
(3)Dean H.
GREAT food... GREAT service... GREAT price!!!!
(5)Ali R.
Tub Tim blows the other Thai food restaurants in the area out of contention! The food is by far superior and also the service was refreshing. I called for delivery and the person answering the phone truly sounded like they wanted to be there. On top of that the delivery driver was so nice. Living on the 3rd floor so often the delivery driver is so angry by the time they reach our door they could care less about at the least saying Hi. This night when our delivery came the driver was so genuine. He made conversation and didn't let the stairs get the best of him. Great customer service is hard to find these days and Tub Tim sure has it down!

Tried Tub Tim after searching for a place to have Friday dinner other than the usual suspects in and around Old Orchard. The host and servers were super friendly and courteous. Restaurant was a quiet setting so perfect eating for intimate dinner conversation. I thought prices were cheap at $8 to $9 an entree but was expensive portion wise in comparison to other places. For appetizer, we order a special, which was shrimp wrapped in deep fried noodles at $2.50 each. For that price, I was expecting a jumbo shrimp. Other than size, it was pretty tasty. My friend ordered the Pad Thai, which was served hot and fresh, and was quite tasty. I ordered the beef pad prik king, where they give you option of heat level. I went for 3, which was medium. Dish was ok, but there was something overpowering that made it hard for me to completely enjoy the dish...lemongrass maybe? For dessert, ordered green tea ice cream and tiramisu ice cream, which both were good and served in big portion. Ok experience at Tub Tim but not so sure I will return as there are other better Thai options in the area and city.
(3)Pat V.
Got the Pad Thai lunch special. Pretty good and alot of food for only $8!!!
(4)Liz S.
How could you not love the name of this place? Tub Tim is a great spot for lunch - it offers a simple, comfortable environment and an excellent value with the $7 lunch menu, which includes 2 Spring Rolls, a small salad, and choice of entree. I had the Pad-See-Ewe (broad pan-fried noodles) with Chicken, and it was a large portion and very tasty. Washed down with a tall glass of Thai Iced tea, it was a filling meal that was not too heavy. We were limited on time, but everything came out quickly and our server was very gentle and kind, with efficient service, so we felt relaxed and not rushed. Close to Oakton CC, it's a good and reliable choice if you are in the neighborhood. My friends are regulars there, and it's easy to see why - the restaurant earned the honor of Skokie Merchant of the Year in '07. Visit Tub Tim if you are in the area and have a craving for Thai food!

I work in Morton Grove and the dining options for lunch are few and far between. When I made a lunch date with a few of the librarians at Skokie Public Library, I was honestly worried about where we would possibly go.Thankfully they knew exactly what they were doing, as any good librarian should! My favorite thing on their menu is Meang Kum, which I had never heard of before eating here. It's amazing, unique, and totally tasty. I also love their Ginger Tofu. Good stuff. I kind of wish they delivered to me in the city! Highly recommended.
(5)Mike F.
The best thai restaurant and the best wait staff period.
(5)Christie Katelyn S.
Service was great & everyone was really nice. We had mixed reviews about the food. While mine was a solid 7 out of 10 being the highest, my friends was a 4 out of 10. Small location, if there happen to be loud people sitting in the restaurant it'll echo through out the entire place. I gave them 4 stars based on my meal & experience, my friend can write his own review. ;o)
(4)tony p.
honestly, this is the best thai food we had thus far,our favorite prior to this was sticky rice on western ave.,but tub tim thai beats them with the portion size and flavor.my wife and i went here on a saturday to celebrate our early valentine's day dinner, since this year it falls on a monday ;(,anyway my wife had the tom yum soup, which was very flavorful,i had the tom kha soup which makes you float in the air (yeah,it was that good),we also had the chicken satay and springrolls,no complaints on those. for our entree,my wife ordered the crying tiger and i ordered the yellow chicken curry,if you go here, definitely try the crying tiger,it comes with this one sauce that screams flavor,a very nice place, loved it,this is going to be our number one thai spot.
(5)Jessica O.
So Tony C.'s wife took me here in order to show me what Tony had been talking about. This isn't a frou-frou place by any standard. BUT! The food was nummy! They are so attentive to your service, everyone was really kind and their lunch specials are also quite good! I wouldn't recommend coming here if you only had a 42-minute lunch period to get in order, and get out... but it is definitely a great place to just sit and have some great thai cooking at a very reasonable price! FINALLY! Try out the sticky rice with mango... honestly a little freaked out before I tried it... but it was REALLY good. Just a little taste o' heaven.

I moved to Skokie from Chicago 8 years ago, and finding a good restaurant in town is nearly impossible. But this place is as good as or better than many of the Thai places in my old Chicago neighborhoods, which include much of the north side (Lincoln Square, Rogers Park, West Rogers Park, Bucktown, Portage Park, etc.). I also find the staff very friendly, though for me that's not a necessity if the food is good. One night I ordered from another Thai place and mistakenly went to Tub Tim Thai to pick up my order, and even though I kept insisting that I had just talked to them and they were wrong, we had a good laugh when I figured it out. (I've done that before, as I order out a lot, and some places aren't so good-natured.) For Skokie, it's definitely a 5-star place.
(5)Cliff L.
Not your ordinary americanized Thai storefront. It is a storefront, has some standard Thai items, but also a number of dishes I haven't seen anywhere else. First off, you can get Chang Beer, rather than the usual Singh Hai. Then follow up with Meang Kum, an appetizer comprising coconut, shrimp and peanuts, and a Fish Salad with filet of sole, lemongrass and lime sauce. Main courses include Pad Kee Maw, a stir fried wide noodle dish; Pad Prik King, pork or chicken stir fried with green beans; Panang Curry, chicken pork or tofu with steamed vegetables in a curry/coconut milk sauce; and Basil Chicken, with plenty of basil and garlic, totally unlike its namesake in Chinese restaurants. Everything was delicious and spiced as we requested (four peppers). Makes you wonder why more 'Thai' restaurants don't provide such a variety of flavorful dishes. Too bad I don't get to Skokie more often, but when I do, I'll be back.
(4)Carolina C.
Food is great! I've been 3 times and each time is fast and very delicious. The only thing I didn't like is that they serve ur pop in a small glass w ice and then charge u for refills. I'll go again just say no ice or pay for more.
(4)Mike O.
I love this place. It's one of the few restaurants that I can honestly say that about. The staff is friendly, courteous and quick. It's great seeing the owners taking a more active role in managing the place. The whole family gets involved! The patriarch cooks your scrumptious, fresh and flavorful food. The matriarch manages and waits when it's busy. The son and daughter both comprise the waitstaff as well as take phone orders, run deliveries and do cashier services. The rest of the staff is quite friendly as well. The food is fantastic as the chef insists on quality, fresh ingredients. The menu is pretty diverse, offering many different dishes which themselves have many different options. You'll find all of your favorite noodle dishes (Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Kee Mao, Lard Nar etc.), various dishes based on their sauces (Garlic, ginger, PAD PRIK!!!) as well as stand-alone items like the seared sea scallops and the ABSOLUTELY amazing Charcoal Broiled Chicken. The Charcoal Broiled Chicken is marinated in coconut milk and Thai Spices, broiled on the name sake Charcoal and served with fresh veggies and sticky rice. Simply put, this dish is phenomenal. The chicken is moist and flavorful and has a wonderfully delicate crunch on the skin. If you're fiending some hot food, try the Pad Kee Mao or the Pad Prik King. The staff uses a heat rating system of 1 through 4 to determine just how spicy to make your food (I like going for 3 so that I can still enjoy the flavors in my food. If you're feeling adventurous, go for 4). Having read some of the reviews, I can understand how some of you would say that the flavors aren't full on IN YOUR FACE flavors. But that's where Tub Thim Thai really shines. Thai food is more than just basil, curries and coconut milk. It's about flavors and textures that accentuate each other and make eating an experience. If I wanted regular old, peanutty pad thai, I'd go somewhere else. If I want flavorful Thai food in a warm and inviting atmosphere, I'd go here. And I'd keep coming back for more. - Eat on!
(5)Chase K.
Thanks for nothing Hungry Hound! The place was nice the server was friendly and that was about it. We order from the lunch special but we got the regular instead because the people in the kitchen can't read. The food was definitely over priced....$8 for chicken satay all the other thai places charge $5.95-$6.95. Nothing was special about that at all. We ordered the crying tiger, which was thin rib eye. That was the only highlight of the meal. We also odered pork pad see eiw and chicken pad kee maw. I definitely was not impressed with at all. Both were the worst I have had in a long time and not restaurant quality. There was something in the sauce that was off. The meang kum was nothing special if your used to Asian cuisine (didn't taste fresh), it would rate at 2 out of 10. I also order Thai iced tea and asked for very very little cream and my request was too much for them to comprehend. I could go on and on... even down to the DRY slices of cucumber on our plate but I think I made my point. We took the left overs home but they'll sit in the fridge for two day and into the trash they go. The presentation gets a 5 star but the taste gets a 1 star. I would not go back or recommend to anyone. And did I mention thanks for nothing Hungry Hound because you must have been hungry as a hound that day. OK I lied! Got one recommendation if you are used to good authentic thai food don't go there. Seriously.....$8 for chicken satay!
(1)Madeleine E.
This is one of the best Thai food restaurants I have ever been to. Instead of a vast menu with too many items sounding the same, they focus on authentic tastes and presentation. The restaurant is run by a couple. Their daughter helps wait on tables in the evenings. The wife runs the front and the husband runs the kitchen. He got his training from cooking at a couple different high end Japanese restaurants. His wife tells me that is why he pays so much time and attention to small details and presentation. If you don't know what to order they will help you find something.
(5)Michael S.
Went there on a Friday night for our first time. The choice wasn't big, but it wasn't small and I have never seen some of the appetizers before. I was quite shocked to see so many people there and it was a lively place which I enjoyed. The older waitress there was very friendly as well as the younger ones. This isn't the best Thai food, but it quite good and I enjoyed the whole dining experience there.
(4)Sid B.
Slightly uncooked-flavorless meat + "old spiced' flat noodles&rice = Forgettable experience
(2)Susan P.
I was so excited to try this place today based on good reviews here and in the newspaper but it sadly disappointed:( The restaurant is really nice and the waitress was really nice but the food was meh. We order the lunch special. It came with a kind of weird romaine & carrot salad (very watery) and the best part of our meal, two tiny deep fried chicken potstickers. For one of our entrees, we had the chicken cashew--it was okay but nothing special. I'm not sure what to think of the pork basil. The meat tasted "off" but maybe that's the way the marinade (sauce?) is supposed to make the meat taste. Anyway, not going back.

*Update*: Skokie Merchant of the Year in 2007! My favorite restaurant, period. Nice and clean atmosphere. Amazing food and great service. Go now before they get on "Check, Please!" and you have to start making reservations. If there is anyplace I'd like to be a regular and have the staff know me, this is it! Some highlights: Not your standard Thai food quickie. Presentation is important here. The food is brought out on immaculate white china. I don't think I've ever had a side of veggies prepared more perfectly. The food is also a bit more flavorful (and therefore delicious) than you may be used to. Choose your level of spice (0-4) for pretty much any dish. The owner, Pam, is quite friendly and willing to explain any dish on the menu. Try the Meang Kum appetizer. It's very unique and flavorful. Favorites: Meang Kum Appetizer Pad Gra Paow w/ Pork at spice level of 3 (4 causes crying and uncontrollable sweat from the forehead;)) Enjoy as often as possible!
(5)Jessy Y.
We went there to try out their lunch menu. We ordered the Meang Kum for appetizer, Pad See Ewe and Basil chicken as lunch special. The appetizer was great (the flavor and texture gave a great combination). My husband loved his basil chicken with the perfect amount of spicy (he asked for Hot). I loved my lunch special that comes with the salad and dumping (really yummy, deep fried). The serving size is good. The overall experience was good - the service is outstanding. However, my Pad See Ewe has a strong burned flavor to it, it gave me a litter after taste which I wasn't happy with.
(3)Kate S.
The food here is excellent! The service is great, and everything was delicious, especially the pad-see-ew and lad nar. It's a lot of the same stuff you get at other places, but it just tastes better here. The environment is also very nice.
(5)rachel p.
working in skokie unfortunately means that i often have to eat in skokie. options are ridiculously limited, especially if you don't want to eat at a craptastic chain restaurant like buffalo wild wings. ack. anyhoo, tub tim thai is not only fun to say but also a pretty decent place to grab some eats on my lunch hour. they've got solid lunch specials that come with a salad and an appetizer all for around $8. service is always friendly and the taro custard ain't bad either.
(4)Abby A.
I overheard someone talking about this place on the Metra.... so my husband and I decided to go. Maybe it was just an off-night, but there was a large party there. Although we were seated quickly, our order was not taken for a long time, and when they did, it took a long time for the food to be served. The food was good (not great), but the atmosphere was lousy. Aside from the large group, the acoustics of the room are such that it is just really unpleasant. I won't be going back.
(2)Monica W.
Excellent food, service, ambiance. friendly owners, reasonable prices. My clients love me for recommending this place to them.
