The lunch buffet is a treat, and not gross like most buffets. Everyday the dishes vary and are made fresh in small batches. Service is quick and doesn't get in the way. They have the best Tom Yum soup I've had in Chicagoland by far.

Just great food and a great deal. I have dined in and had delivery, and am happy for it every time. Crab rangoon "fingers" are amazing, pad thai is the best around, and thai iced tea is a personal favorite. Each of their dishes is full of flavor without being too greasy like some. They're not stingy on the vegetables, either. Yum!

I would first ask you to read my review of Joy's Noodles and Rice to preface the following review. Something doesn't feel right when I walk into a restaurant this small with a menu this big. I'm an equal opportunity diner, so I didn't hold it against them. I should have. I would rather they concentrate on making less dishes of higher quality than the over 120 items they offer. First off, Thom Kha Gai. Everything Joy's does right with their Thom Kha, Ruby of Siam(ROS) completely misses the mark. Remember that overly sweetened broth I was talking about? ROS' Thom Kha broth is loaded with sugar, and the fish sauce? Forget about it, their soup is so salty I needed a quart of water to quench my thirst. After trying to enjoy the soup with a spoon, I ended up sipping the broth as every spoonful had small chunks of inedible and fibrous lemongrass. At Joy's, their lemongrass and galangal pieces are cut large enough not to pose a hassle when actually eating the soup. For $4.50, I'll just stop at Joy's Sister Restaurant "Noodles in the Pot" on my way home and have spent $.50 less. And the entree? Pad Thai of course. It seems rather incongruous that the pieces of lemongrass that aren't to be ingested were cut so small as to make them unavoidable in their soup, yet the pad thai is made with 2.5" sticks of green onions! How am I supposed to eat that? Other than the fact I was stuck with green onion javelins to pick out, the pad thai was average. It was tasty and seasoned well (it came with lime which was a plus), but nothing special otherwise. My order was takeout, and I neglected to grab any of the sauces they offered at the cluttered cashier stand. I prefer they just automatically include condiments and plasticware. The noodles were 9.95, $2.50 more than Joy's/Noodles in the Pot! (To top that, both Joys and Noodles in the Pot offer a 15% discount to those who order onine!) And service? In the interest of full disclosure, I did only stop in to place a carry-out order, but there is something to be said for first impressions. I have read prior reviews that slam the service at ROS. I attribute a majority of the service problems in ethnic restaurants to the language/culture barrier. I wasn't greeted, rather I was asked "you know what you want?". When I asked the lady at the counter what made the iced coffe "thai" iced coffe, she just told me it was coffee, with ice. I kind of laughed, basically because I knew she was trying to explain it, but to tell me that their iced coffee was coffee with ice? They should be able to do better than that, no? No "Hello" or "Good afternoon"? The lady never smiled and just had an awkward attitude. Like I said, it was probably due to cultural and language barriers, but to me, to charge more than Joys and not even begin to touch their service level doesn't sit right with me. Two stars, because the four stars I gave Joy's were well deserved, to give this place three seems disrespectful.

Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines on the planet, but because it is drastically high in sodium, I haven't had any since March. Yesterday our monthly discussion group went here, our traditional post-lecture haunt. I basically had three dishes of my own, of which I had very small amounts of each, and then sampled one bite of about five of the other dishes on the table. Although I still pushed the sodium just with that, I was reminded how well Ruby's does Thai with an Americanized flair. The Tom Kha Gai (coconut milk soup with lemongrass, galanga, and chicken), ordered medium spicy (though they forgot to bring me the spice tray), was creamy and exquisite - not watery as they can sometimes be at other Thai restaurants. (This is one of my favorite dishes in the world and it was excruciating to have to set the bowl down.) There was a subtlety to the Thai spring rolls that I hadn't found before - the tofu and sprouts went nicely with the heavier wrapper and sauce. The fried squid was good, though nothing special - but then, I couldn't have almost any sauce, and that makes the dish. The Crying Tiger (charbroiled meat with spicy sauce on the side) was not as crisp as it had been some days, but the flavor was still there - it was hard not to eat just another piece or use the "proper" amount of sauce. There was a sausage fried rice of some kind that I had one bite of - not really my speed, and way too salty to waste precious quota on. My Thai cucumber salad was mellow and nice - thickly sweet without being overly cloying - and gave me a lower sodium item to bulk up on as well. The menu is crazy big, of course, and there's no way not to find something you like. Their spicing to order is actually respected; the sauces are pretty fantastic. One of their most loved dishes is the lime chicken appetizer; although it's got a lot of American influence, it's a neat (and *very* tasty) hybrid dish and if you haven't tried it, you really should. Especially given that this is not one of the "Thai clusters" in Chicago, it is wonderful to have a bastion of Thai quality food in this part of the suburbs. The staff is wonderfully helpful and nice (if mostly a bit light on English); if you are looking for a place to dip your toe in the waters of Thai food, this is a good place to start, with transitional dishes such as the Lime Chicken. If you like Thai already, you have a wide selection of the standards to choose from, all quite well done. Definitely worth a trip for anyone!

like a spurned lover, i've kept coming back to this neighborhood thai place. every time i eat something from ruby, i remember how much i dislike the service and how mediocre the food is. one time the waitress came up to me as i was leaving after having the lunch buffet. she says "tip was not included in your payment". let me be clear, a tip is NEVER a requirement, it's a way of thanking your server. tip literally means to insure promptness. uhm...people, if the wait staff are snotty, inattentive or unprofessional, a tip is undeserved. another time, it took them 75 minutes to deliver to my house and i live 3 blocks away. here's a good tip, next time try asking them to cook your meal without MSG. you would be surprised with the difference in color. also, ask for a fresh batch of pad thai or lime chicken, you might be getting a reheated portion. i've learned my lesson & will not go back. especially since skokie has better thai fare nowadays.

This is the best Thai food I've found in Cook County's "far north". Its tucked away in a strip mall and, despite having a Skokie Blvd. address, doesn't face the boulevard. But don't give up - its worth finding. This restaurant prides itself on its authenticity - their cooks are from Thailand, they use ingredients that come closest to approximating their Thai equivalents and offer very traditional Thai cuisine. Its the only Thai restaurant where I would consider having a seafood entree (such as their catfish). Also, if this helps to validate what I'm saying, a good portion of their clientele also appear to be first and second generation Asian (although the servers all speak English very well). If you go, I'd encourage you to experiment with small dishes (such as their one bite noodle) in addition to trying your favorites. Even if everything isn't to your personal liking, it will still be a well-done example of Thai cuisine.

This place is awesome. Friendliest staff ever and the best lime chicken with kaffir!! We come in to get the dinner portion and it makes us happy. Bonus: They serve Village Creamery ice cream here for all you VC lovers! My friends and I have ordered here plenty of times and remember to call the Skokie location for carry out -- as they have another location in Evanston (that's the one we accidentally went to one time). Oops.

Went there yesterday when I was in a jam and needed a quick meal. I always order the same Thai dish whenever out for Thai food, Yum Woon Salad. Told the waitress I was in a hurry. Food came out within minutes and was excellent.

we really disliked this restaurant. We were carving Thai food without wanting to go too far. (usually go to Siam noodle and rice). The service was very slow, they did not acknowledge our presence for at least 5 minutes (it is very small place). My duck looked so weird I did not want to eat it and my husband got the pad thai (a favorite for him) and not only was it not good but it had egg shell in there. I left without finishing my meal and just disguted. The food had very little veggies and tons of overcooked rice too. We will not go back... Maybe their buffet is a good deal but I dont want to eat anything from this place.

Went last Saturday for the first time and I'm going back. The service was attentive and friendly. The menu was incredibly extensive. It's BYOB, so we picked up a bottle of wine from the grocery store next door for $9. Cucumber salad - the standard good stuff - cucumbers + rice vinegar Chicken Satay - bountiful, juicy, flavorful Shrimp Rolls - crispy, big shrimp wrapped in wonton skins. Not a lot of flavor or spice, simple yet satisfactory Kang Dang Curry - I hadn't had anything to eat all day so by the time we ordered, the one glass of wine was already having an impact. Every time Eric mentioned he was getting the Kang Dang, I had to whisper "ah lang" - killed myself laughing like a 6 year old.

Nice setting with more intrigue and uniqueness than surrounding restaraunts. The food offers more ethnic variety and flavor compared to other local highland park options. I enjoyed the shrimp curry dish that I ordered. It was fresh and tasty. The service was a bit slow and the servers seem overwhelmed. I would go back again. However, my all time favorite Thai restaruant in the Northshore area is Thai Noodles Cafe in Libertyville. It is a really small, non-assuming joint but the food is spectacular. Kind of what I was hoping for in Ruby of Siam.

Another disappointing Thai restaurant,, being that this place was packed you would think the service would of been a lot better, all we ordered was Pad See Ew and Garlic Chicken w Fried Rice, no apps, but for some reason that took nearly 40 minutes. The Beef Pad See EW was flat out bad, the meat was cut too thick which made it dry and chewy , the chicken meat didn't taste fresh but since they do a huge business it must be fresh but just of a low quality. The sticky rice and custard was the best thing, bill came to nearly $50 for 2 entrees,2 Iced coffee and 1 dessert, I will cross Ruby of Siam of my list!

Must try their Lime Chicken. It's breaded chicken marinated in lime that comes with a mayo and lime sauce. So simple but so tasty.

I really wish you could rate quality of food and service individually on Yelp. The food here is a 4 and the service is a 1. After being seated at a dirty table, they attempted to deliver our Tom Yum soup and spicy Tofu to three other tables before "finding" us. Once delivered, both were very good with generous portions. Perhaps they have a shortage of menus, as after ordering the starters, knowing we were still deciding on main courses, the waitress insisted we give her the menus back. Our meals were also very flavorful - once the waitress begrudgingly brought us silverware and napkins so we could eat it. In short, order this solid food to go!

This is not how their service is usually, but today's service is terrible. They forgot our order of Thai ice tea, and by the time they brought out our other entree, it took forever. My daughter's water had dirt inside it that we had to request for another cup of water and two of the water glass had lip marks. I am not happy with their service, hopefully they'll get it together.

Pineapple Curry. Tastes soooo good. I've had it a bunch of times and I never get tired of it. I've never had anything else here. Well, I think I have tried a different curry, which wasn't bad, but it was no Pineapple Curry, let me tell you. And I tried some noodle thing a friend was having, but it was no Pineapple Curry. Not even close. The servers are really nice.

We came here to eat after a day of Christmas shopping. The food was very flavorful. The prices were good. They also have a buffet style for lunch which I never seen at a Thai restuarant, but we plan to go for lunch so we can try different things.

Consistently the place I go for food every time I come back home to Chicago. This is hands down the best thai food, and I've had a lot of thai food in my day. Recommend: One bite chicken, eggplant basil dish, and drunken noodle

This review is for the weekend lunch buffet. We arrive to Ruby of Siam, enter the door, get asked if we are having the buffet and then told to sit wherever we want. That was the extent of the service. We had to get our own water, napkins, silverware. Before we finished our first plate, he handed us our check. Like everyone else states, the pad thai is too sweet and the service is non-existing.

This is a basic neighborhood Thai place. We've been ordering from here for years because it's fast and convenient, but some dishes are better than others. The noodle dishes are a solid choice, they have a great Pad Thai, and their other basic noodles (Pad Woon Sen, Pad See Eiw) are good too. The curries I've had there is what brings it down to 3 stars - no real flaovr and definitely not spicy, which is good if you don't like spicy, but not so great if you're looking for authentic Thai. Most recently we ordered the Kari Curry (yellow curry with sweet potatoes) medium spiced and it had barely any flavor at all. So on the last order we tried Kang Dang Curry, and ordered it hot - again, not much flavor in the sauce, although there were a lot of sliced jalepenos, so perhaps that's what they do if someone orders "hot", just throw in jalepenos? I mostly order for pick up there, and haven't dined in the restaurant in a while, but the dining room has a strange set up, with the cashier and food pick up in the middle of the restaurant. So if you're picking up and your food isn't ready yet, there isn't really a waiting area, you're just standing surrounded by tables of people eating their dinner, which feels a little weird. Probably to the people dining in too.

This is my first time here and we came for dinner. We were in the area and Yelped Thai food and BAM, Ruby of Siam Skokie. It's located in a strip mall so there was plenty of parking. The place had stickers posted on the entrance of the door for Zagat awards which was impressive to me. We were seated and they had calming music playing in the back ground. I noticed the Thai decor hanging and colorful seat cushions. And they also have a buffet station for lunch too. This is a BYOB...YES! The staff are nice, but don't be surprise if you can't understand their Thaiglish. They didn't really ask what we would like to drink, they just gave us ice water. No matter, we didn't want to drink anything else but it's good to know I can bring our own liquor. So this is what we ordered: For Apps: Fresh Spring Rolls Filled with scrambled egg, cucumbers, tofu and bean sprouts with (This was good for two, it had two rolls sliced into bite size pieces with a light sweet and sour sauce over it.) Main Dishes: Larb Chicken Ground chicken, lime juice, hot peppers, green onions and rice powder. (I like Larb and this was pretty good. fresh lime flavor and chicken was warm. A must to try and eat it with Sticky Rice. Keep in mind Sticky Rice is a separate charge and a large order is literally two small cups of rice in a small bamboo rice container served HOT. Not all Thai places sell sticky rice so it was a treat that they have it on the menu). Pad Thai beef Stir fried rice noodles or bean thread noodles with your choice of protein. Prepared with tofu, bean sprouts, eggs, ground peanuts and green onions. (I didn't care much of this one, the beef was a bit tough, noodles were sticking together in clumps and for some reason it was really sweet, tooth ache sweet). Kang Kari Kari curry, onions and sweet potatoes cooked in coconut milk with your choice of protein. (This dish was a bit too soupy and the flavors didn't quite blend together with the chicken and sweet potato. I guess we're use to the thicker yellow curry sauce). Overall, it was ok. I'd go back here if I was in the neighborhood or if I had a craving for Larb and sticky rice.

I used to go here because it was close to where I live. The food is pretty good. I used to get the curry to go and dine there as well. I remember they also used to have a buffet as well. But one thing about their place is to never get bubble tea there. Because it was one of the worst bubble tea I ever tasted. It was artificial and it did not taste anything like the fruit. I ordered strawberry bubble tea with tapioca I believe, and I took a couple of sips and had to throw it away. It was THAT bad. Other than that the service is decent, the place is pretty clean.

Great Thai Food full of flavor and service!!! Great assortment of entrees from noodles to curry with rice. The chicken is moist and sauces have flavor. The entrees were tasty and flavorful! I felt like I was in Thailand eating there! Reasonable prices for great quality food! No complaints here! Everything here is great!

I only had pad thai as take away, but ive had it a few times. Very pleased. since moving to the suburbs havent found thai food that compares with my favorite places in the city. This comes the closest. And they are very very vegetarian/vegan friendly so extra bonus points there.

We came here for the lunch buffet. We enjoyed the 2 soup options, 2 different rice options, 2 different noodle options and the entre selections. The desserts were a pleasant surprise although a bigger selection would have been more inviting. The ambiance was very thai with the decorative table cloths and ornamental sitting pillows. The wooden light wall fixtures added a nice touch. It would be great if they could upgrade the buffet station. The serving trays very small. There were a number of guests ordering from the menu and the dishes are served in nice big plates and the rice in a thai engraved serving bowl. Another thing to note- our younger 5 yo child hardly ate, it would have been a nice gesture if they did not charge the $6. They will be opening a new location in Highland Park in July and we will be waiting for the big day! Oh! and the kids were given very cute bear water cups :)

The staff is extremely rude! I would never go back to this place again. They didn't acknowledge us for 10 minutes as we stood and the counter even though 2 people repeatedly passed by the station. Then they made up some bogus reason as to why the coupon wasn't valid. Food isn't worth the trouble. Overpriced and rude. There are other Thai restaurants nearby that are much better.

its funny how some ethnic groups do the buffet thing more than others. just venture down devon ave and see how many east indian restaurants have buffets. but you don't see ethiopian, italian or mexican all-you-can-eat too often. chicago once seemed to have more thai buffets, but not so much these days. so it was with anticipation and delight that i noticed a newish one in skokie. skokie once had a great buffet on church near niles center. it was cheap and very good. of course, it did not survive, closing 4-5 years ago. unfortunately, after trying ruby of siam up near old orchard shopping center, i have to report that is still true. upon arrival, i looked at the buffet table and a few details presented themselves. 1. the selection was limited, particularly vegetarian selections. 2. the food itself did not look as appetizing as i would usually expect. 3. there was no dessert options. the food itself was not bad. it resembled thai food and when mixed together was passable. . i can't vouch for the entrees on the regular menu.maybe i'm cheap and 10$ is about average for a buffet in the chicagoland area but i expected better and will not return.

Wow! What a surprisingly good find. Small place in a strip mall. Some friends told us about this place and we tried it out. It was really good! Actually, it was great. Every one of our dishes was wonderful. We will definitely go back again and again.

A cozy little Thai restaurant. I liked the decorations that provided an appropriate atmostphere. The Lime Chicken in appetizer was absolutely delicious. It came out really fast, and the chicken coated in lime juice was so great. The vegetable it came with was also very tasty and had great texture - a bit crunchy, not mushy. Strongly recommend this one. Kao Pad Shrimp was pretty good; a typical shrimp fried rice in other restaurants. The Pad Tai, however, was way too salty for my taste. I could not eat it by itself, and I had to mix it with the fried rice. By the end of the meal (shared by 2), we were both extremely full but didn't feel too healthy. I'd give this a 2.5, but if I had to round, I'd round up because the lime chicken is a killer.

Awesome suburb restaurant. Their chicken Pad Thai is to die for. BYOB and there's a grocery store right next to it if you forgot to bring that bottle of wine. The place is also located walking distance from Old Orchard, so I would suggest to stop by if you are on a shopping trip.

This restaurant has gone downhill. The last 3 times we have ordered from here it was terrible. We used to love it and go here all of the time. The chicken satay is dried and small - it used to be very plump and meaty. Everything else never tastes fresh anymore. After three bad visits, I have to enter this rating.

Favorite Thai restaurant in the area. Clean, friendly staff, foods always consistent. Must try the following: Lime chicken- deep friend chicken breast topped with fried greens and sweet lime sauce. To die for! Pad tai: a staple must! Kao Pad Kari: curry fried rice with cilantro onions and your choice of beef. This is a dish that I must get EVERY single time! Ah- maZe! Kaoman Somtum Kaiyang- Coconut milk infused steamed rice served with charbroiled chicken or tofu and papaya salad. Refreshing and satisfying! And ruby crab legs- their version of crab Rangoon. Everything we have tried has always been fresh and delicious. The prices are reasonable and the restaurant is warm and welcoming! They look like they do a lunch buffet. Never tried it I'm sure it's great!

This place rocks! I thought I had found my favorite Thai restaurant in Little Thai Cafe in Libertyville, Il but Ruby of Siam far exceeds the taste, quality and ambiance. You walk into a nicely decorated, Thai inspired restaurant with a friendly and attentive wait staff. Order anything on the menu and you'll be pleased with your selection because the food is delicious. On the weekends, they have a buffet. This is not your typical Asian buffet. For $12, you are getting quality food for such a great deal.

Dinner for 2 on a weeknight. THE GOOD: + Nice ambiance. Nice decor. The restaurant's noise level was conducive to a pleasant conversation with your dinner date. THE BARELY THERE: So so service. They paid enough attention to refill my husband's drink and give our check. My drink was sent halfway through the meal. I went to the counter to cancel the drink and the waiter who took our order pointed to the owner/host walking towards our table, "Oh, she has your drink." Our waiter never came back to our table to ask how the meal was or if we needed anything else. Another waitress came by to refill my husband's drink. THE BAD: Chicken pad thai ($8.99) was too sweet and had no tamarind flavor. I even found myself crunching on sugar crystals. The pad thai was also white in color. Aren't they supposed to be somewhat orange in hue due to the tamarind sauce used in pad thai? My pad thai had no tamarind sauce for sure. The were only 7 slivers of chicken, about 11 small cubes of tofu (3/4 of a centimeter x 3/4 of a centimeter x 3/4 of a centimeter), no egg, and maybe 1/2 teaspoon of peanuts. Very stingy with ingredients. Kai Yud Sai (Sauteed ground chicken with mixed vegetables wrapped in a thin layer for scrambled egg) ($12.99) served with rice was ok but again, too sweet. THE SUMMARY: I was expecting more since there was a ZAGAT sticker on one of the restaurant's windows. If you have a sweeter palate in terms of your Thai food, this place is for you. This is not my cup of tea.

I came here on a weeknight for a casual dinner with a coworker and in the end of the meal, I kinda wish I listened to my gut instinct and just carried out. As we walked in, the place was empty around 5:45pm on a Monday night, so I'm kind of like okay, it can't be that bad. We got seated towards the back across from their buffet. I guess they must do a lunch buffet for lunch and I am so not a fan of buffets, but luckily we got to order off the menu. Looking at other reviews, the portions looked huge so I decided to go for my usual tofu pad thai and the portion was not that big. I mean I pretty much finished it off and for $9.00 for tofu, it's not super cheap as most places like this have them for about $7.00. I thought it was okay, a lil too much sauce for me, but not bad at all. I did like that the tofu was in small pieces and not huge chunks that don't fit in your mouth like some other places do it. So I would probably carry it out next time. My coworker got some spicy eggplant and veggie dish with chicken and white rice. She also ate the whole thing, she said it was a tad on the bland side but not horrible. Also, could have done the carryout. Upon walking in, what was interesting is that the servers are dressed up in little cute Asian uniforms which I found kinda interesting. Very cultural to say the least so I thought that was a nice and creative touch as most thai places don't go out of there way to dress up. So with the food being pretty good, I would have given them 4 stars, plus the service was good and fast and the ladies were nice and accommodating with all our needs. Here is what I didn't like-the place just looked dirty. The menu's were huge, outdated and sticky, the decor looked like it was from the 70's even though I don't think the place existed back than. I mean, I know it's on a strip mall and I shouldn't be expecting Arun's Thai like in the city, but I felt like it was a little too red, a little too cheesy and smelled bad too. Had all this curry action going on, and if it was an Indian restaurant, fine, but you are strictly Thai so get with it, febreeze or something. Hence, I will not be back for lunch or dinner dine in again but I may carry out if I'm in the area or I'll just venture out another 20 minutes to the city for some of my faves :)

The service is just plain terrible, I went here one time with my brother to try it out and it was just okay. The portions are small and the prices of the food are very expensive. They act as if their food is high class and it's mediocre at best. The second time I went there was with my friend, I figured the service would be better because maybe they had an off day but nope! The service is terrible and the food is a little over priced.

Love the food. Must eat in. Delivery is ridiculous! 3 times now 1.5 - 2 hours ; that's longer than waiting for a pizza! No more, done. Food arrived lukewarm, no apology, nothing. Take delivery off the menu! Take out, eat there.

Ah Siam in Skokie, the name tosses you back to Thailand prior to the 1930s, but you'll find that the food here is quite contemporary. I enjoyed the decor inside as it had a lot of bright colors and patterns all around. Not really a distraction, but more of an accentuation. The arrangement is simple, you've got tables in an L shape around a rectangular room with the kitchen/cashier area going along the left side wall as you enter. Spacious and well-maintained. The staff was nice too. The food didn't have any wow factor, hence the A-OK three star rating. You could easily get an equally tasty fare at any Thai place. One thing to note is that when you ask for spicy, they do their best to accommodate. I had a pretty spicy pad thai, but it was a good spicy. The kind where you're not sweating bullets, but wallowing in the flavor of spice. Price point is good, portion is good, plenty of variety to explore.

We love this restaurant because the food is excellent and the servers are always so nice. There are free refills on the pop (always a perk) and the portions are nice sized for the price. As a person who does not like meat, the tofu dishes are delicious! My favorite appetizer is the "fresh" spring rolls by far. I usually order the Pad Thai with tofu and my husband orders the Pad Sieu with tofu (and he is a meat eater!). Absolutely delicious. The Pad Sieu has larger chunks of tofu, which makes for nice variety. The Pad Thai has small tofu which are just delectable. This place is great for a date night or a night out with the family. Plan on spending a chunk of change because appetizers are a must! Too good to resist.

This place is really close to the whole shopping area in Skokie near Old Orchard Mall. I went here cuz my friend lives really close by. We're craving Thai and we had passed this place a few times before. The ambiance is great and pretty traditional looking. The menu seems pretty fusion or authentic... I couldn't really tell. We ordered the Shrimp spring roll... I think.. It comes fried in like a spring roll shell but looks like a long stick. Maybe hard to explain. I have pix that I'll post if anyone is curious. Those were really good. We also had the spicy tofu appetizer which was pretty decent... had a bit of a kick. Has some ground meat. Beware the tofu comes deep fried. We also ordered pad thai. I thought this place would be more authentic. The pad thai was honestly the most disgusting pad thai I've EVER tried. It was almost unbearable to eat... why you ask? It was disgustingly too sweet. I wondered if I was eating eating sweet and sour noodles or something. Not enough peanutty goodness. Other than that.. I'd try this place again. The service was good and is probably better to go family style whether it's two people or a group.

Mediocre Thai both in presentation and taste. Tom Yum soup was just weird- I did not get the familiar flavors of gorganza and lemongrass and red pepper- instead we got a vaguely lemon tasting broth with some flavorless heat, the color of miso soup. Pot stickers were greasy. Shu mai was decent. Pad Khing was overcooked and too salty. Not good.

The food is pretty good, but I have to say that they have better days with better chefs. The pad thai, when made on a good day, may be one of my favorites! If I were you though, I would carry out. Eating there is kind of annoying. They are nice, but not that great at service. We had to ask 5 times for our wine to be opened. The entrees also came out all separately (we had 4 people). I love their cucumber salad, one of my favorite!!! Overall, a good staple Thai place for me!

We don't live particularly near here but if we are ever in the area and don't feel like Portillo's then this place is worth a visit. The lime chicken is amazing, have not found a place comparable, and is my automatic choice when coming here. Crispy, soft and moist chicken breast on top of some crispy green leaf with lime sauce. A-MAZING. As a result of this, I have limited knowledge of the other dishes, pad see ewe is good and the curries I've tried have also been really good. Good service, good value and good food. Can't ask for more than that!

I have had the shrimp pad thai ($8) and the lunch buffet ($12 - on weekends). Both were ok. Service is spotty / standoffish. This is a BYOB establish. It satisfies a craving but they can do more business if they acted like they cared and wanted you there.

This is the only Thai restaurant that makes lime chicken, at least that I know of. I love their LIME CHICKEN and Thai iced coffee. Also, the place is very clean. And, there's plenty of parking. Service is above par too; very quick and prompt. Thumbs up!

Best thai in 100 miles!! I would move just to be near the tastiness that comes from this kitchen.

I absolutely love this place, the best appetizers ever!! and so many choices!! The Lime chicken is so zesty and delish!! Crying Tiger is excellent!! One Bite Chicken...OMG!! The Tom Yum soup is perfect!! and that's just the appetizers!!! Love the Ruby Noodles, Pad Won Sen, Pad Thai!! Every dish I ever tried here has been perfect and the Sticky rice with Mangos!!! OMG!!! This is definitely my very favorite Thai restaurant, the staff is lovely, always attentive and friendly, I highly recommend this place!!

My favorite thai food restaurant! I've been going here for a few years now. Consistently great food. My favorite dishes are Tum Ka (Coconut milk soup, I like it quite spicy), Green curry chicken, Pad See Ew, Chicken baby spring roll, and Tum yum (Thai hot and sour soup with lemongrass). It's a bit expensive, but for me, it's always worth it. There's also a buffet every day for lunch, $9.95 on weekdays and $11.95 on weekends (Don't quote me on the weekend price.)

I cannot recommend any place if I get sick immediately after eating there. And since everyone in my party also got sick, I attribute this to bad food handling or poor sanitation or both. Yes service was friendly but risking the publics health is UNacceptable!

For my money, this is the best damn Thai food in Chicagoland. I have yet to go somewhere (besides Arun's but I ain't paying no $200 for a pad thai) that beats this place. Pot Pan is right by my house and I used to live by butterfly on Grand but this place beats their asses down like a motorcycle gang on a Vespa enthusiast. Funny thing about Thai food, its like a perfect storm of allergen laden foods, shellfish, peanuts and soy. I can eats it all so I can laugh while you twitch and gag on the floor. The decor is very standard as far as Thai restaurant stuff, lots of fake gold, red and ornamental objects that most of us find obnoxious but in Thailand, they think of them as doilies. You should come here to holler at the food tho, which is why I get: Pad Thai - go to dish for any Americano trying to look like they are down with ethnic cuisine. Theirs is good but really take yourself out of the comfort zone with: Pad See Ewe - Eww? No Ewe. Delish and not too spicy, anything here they can make spicy so be sure to ask for a bottle and diaper change if you want it mild. Lad Nar - I actually did not see this on the menu but I think I was still hungover. When I would get this here, it was one of the those religious experiences, the gates would open, cherubs would stroke my belly, and the harp music. Tom Kha - Sometimes called tom kar. A delish coconut milk soup that is is made with lemongrass & other greens. Get it with tofu. I get everything with tofu although their tofu is the fried kind and not the fresh kind they used to use. I think the fried stuff keeps longer. Bring back the freshness! Moo Ping - BAM! Smack you upside your lemongrass Tofu with some pork, homey. These are amazing. Pad Prik Khing - So good. The noodles which they do not mention are quite exquisite and delicate. Bubble tea latte's - Amazing. Really stepped these up since last time. They come in these new cute little plastic cups with asian characters on em. And they even put a lil whipped cream on top for your fat ass. They also now carry Village Creamery Ice Cream, which is a favorite of mine and located exclusively in Skokie across from the giant vat of urine and disease known as the Oakton Pool. But I digress, Village Creamery Ice Cream is the best, they have flavors like Cotton Candy, Avocado and Donut & Cream. DONUT & CREAM! Give them a shot you will not regret it. Try this location, in Skokie, I know they have a location in the city but I have never been there. This place is awesome cuz they are open late on Sunday so I can handle my biz and get home in time to tuck in the kiddies.

The food here is good. I've tried the kang dang to the pad thai. Restaurant is relatively typical thai restaurant decor. The only thing I could say that about the place is that the cook has a sweet tooth. Next time I eat in or dine out I'll make sure too mention the overly sweetness of the food.

The food is GREAT! But the staff is extremely rude. Especially the manager/owner. When we walked in she saw us and looked away then came by about a minute later and said "just sit where ever". We tried to waive her down to order and she looked at our table and walk away. Horrible service.

Ruby of Siam is apparently pretty happening. It was a full house the Sunday night I came here. The waitresses are dressed in traditional Thai clothing and are quick and efficient. Portions are just right if you are ordering just 1 dish per person. Our group of four ordered 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 2 desserts, and it was enough. It came to only $17/pp after tip! The lime fried chicken is sweet & tangy, and the chive dumplings are big. The Imperial rice was my fave. It is truly a Chinese person's dream: Chinese sausage, slight curry flavor on the rice, and shredded dried pork (aka, "pork sung") sprinkled on top! The pad thai is a little sweeter and wetter than I'm used to, but it was still good. However, the green curry with catfish was noxious (the bamboo shoots are probably to blame) - so don't order it. It was too liquidy to stick to white rice too. For dessert, they have a large assortment of Asian ice cream flavors and sticky rice. RoS is located near Old Orchard mall, across the street from Old Navy. It's situated in the same strip mall as Plato's Closet with a large parking lot. They also offer $9-11 lunch buffets on weekdays & weekends.

My favorite Thai restaurant. Great tasting, reasonably priced entrees. Simple, but pleasant decor. Very friendly and attentive staff. My elementary school aged daughter is practically addicted to the pad thai. The soups are delicious and the appetizers are very tasty. The drunken noodle dish is the perfect blend of spicy sweet brown sauce with wide noodles, fresh vegetables and ground beef. Great for groups and very kid friendly. Eat there or take-out. For the best bang for your buck, come to Ruby's for the lunchtime buffet.

LOOOVE looove this place - been one of my fav thai joints since I used to work at OO waaay baaaaack in da day in hs...lol. They are the only place I can get lime fried chicken - sweet, tangy sauce drizzled over fried chicken = perfection. The pad see eew and panang curry and chicken basil are hits and I have tried their fried rice and pad thai, which are very good as well. And don't forget the thai iced tea. MMM. The portions are good for one person and the price is right. It has traditional decor and a friendly vibe and is BYOB. Though, I don't usually associate liquor with Thai food so I never got to take advantage of that. (shocking, i know.) It's more of a 4.5 - I like this location better than the one downtown, but it's a rare treat since I'm hardly ever out this way.

For the variety you get for the money, I'd pick the lunch buffet over dinner. They have the most authentic tofu pad thai that I've tasted so far in the Northern Suburbs, even better than that offered at Thai Sookdee, Cozy Noodles, and Zoba Noodles in Evanston. The beautiful and intricate Thai decor definitely add to the authenticity. The other vegetarian dishes and sweet rice pudding are also worth trying during the buffet. Other perks? It has a spacious parking lot and is conveniently located next door to the newly opened Produce World International Market, so if you want to get groceries after your meal, it's on the way!

I have been to ruby many times before and have yet to write a review!! so here it goes.... maybe this place is a little to authentic for me... or not authentic enough??? I'm not a huge fan of Thai like my boyfriend is....so when we go out for Thai it is always upon his request. That being said, we got spoiled in Australia with the most authentic fresh Thai food restaurants you can get! It was just amazing and I'm assuming very authentic since Australia has a big Thai population. Anyways, Ruby is always packed no matter what time you go. Still, there are enough tables where I have never had to wait. The service is a little slow sometimes, but they are very kind and accommodating. There is ALWAYS a buy one entree get one half off coupon in the mail, and one time we forgot it at home and they were kind enough to just give us the half off anyways! GREAT customer service ;-) The menu is rather extensive and can be overwhelming at times. Good thing I only get one dish: bean thread noodles with mixed vegetables EXTRA SPICY! This dish is usually called pad woon sen, but Ruby actually doesn't have it on their menu, but are nice enough to make it anyways (can't be too hard, right?). This last time I asked for "very spicy" and wow, It was VERY SPICY!!! sooo beware! Also, BYOB!!

Pretty solid Pad Thai... I like that it is BYOB. DON'T ask for extra peanuts unless you want to pay a dollar. But the food is good and some is vegetarian which is nice!

I had the lunch buffet, which was surprisingly still available on weekends. Tom Yum soup was spicy but not salty. There were 2 varieties of noodles and 3 varieties of rice. The main dishes were pretty limited but tasty - green beef curry, stir fry vegetables, sweet and sour shrimp, and a couple other choices. For $11.95, it was a pretty good value. Atmosphere is heavily elephant-themed and parking is plentiful in the strip mall. Overall, a place I'll go to again to try some of their main dishes.

Maybe I'm just not a big fan of Thai food, but I've been here twice (once to eat -in and once take-out) and neither experience was memorable. It is, however a fave Thai place of everyone i know (including the Hungry Hound, but let's face it people, that dude likes everything). then again, maybe i should order something else besides the Pad Thai and give it a real review.

  • Shradha A.

My absolute favorite Pad Thai in the whole of Chicagoland area!! (Just request no fish sauce, no eggs if you want it vegetarian) Cute ambiance, great service and amazing food! Also highly recommend their homemade icecream (lychee flavor)!!

I've seen some decent reviews on this place and suggested to my friends to go try it. The food we ordered was fine, it wasn't mind blowing but it was decent. However, we all agreed that we would've gone back if the service was better and the woman wasn't so rude. Don't waste your money for rude service with mediocre food!

We just returned from dinner. We did like the place at one time. This time it was at best mediocre. The service was horrendous! The servers were very unpleasant. Don't go there. There is another BYOB nearby on Church. Also Thai and we felt very welcomed there and the food was far superior.

$9 (+ tax and tip) will get you a lunch buffet here. I'm not gonna lie; that's a little steep, especially when there are many north suburban Thai restaurants that'll do a $6 lunch special that will include an appetizer and entree. I was satisfied with the variety of offerings though: chicken chow mein, various rices, 2 kinds of soup, baby egg rolls, salad, and beef dishes. I've gotten take out from Ruby a couple times, and I'd definitely be a repeat customer. They know how to do Thai food.

We have gotten carryout from the Skokie Ruby of Siam location f years. However, lately the food has not been as good. The prices of the Pad Thai have increased and the amount of the ingredients, particularly chicken and tofu, has decreased. Plus, sometimes my wife has trouble getting the people who answer the phone to understand the order. This also seems to be getting a bit worse lately. Tub Tim Thai has better food and better service

I've eaten here a few times on and off over the past couple of years and I've always enjoyed the food. It's usually very fresh and it tastes authentic (though I'm sure it's Americanized like many other similar restaurants). They have very generous portions and the prices are very good for what you get. The one downside is that occasionally the staff is not as pleasant as you'd like, and I recall paying my bill once and having the waitress immediately pick it up to inspect her tip. I thought I'd left a very generous tip, but she did not hide her emotions regarding that issue. Other than that, good food and a good price :)

LIME CHICKEN. TOM YUM SOUP. PAD THAI. that's all you'll need to order for a wonderful dining experience at ruby of siam. plus, it's byob. can we say, HEAVEN?!?!! :) portions, pricing and ambiance all go hand in hand here. ps. they recently opened a new location in downtown and for some SAD reason, the food just doesn't taste as good as the one in skokie. *super sad face*

Honestly, I've had better Thai food. However, the tom yum chicken soup is delish. Buffet is overpriced because they only have a few entrees to choose from.

We called in advance to find out how late they are open. 11pm. we got there around 10pm. We got seated right away. The waiter came over to our table about 5 minutes later telling us the kitchen was closing and we had to order. We did. Food came within 10 minutes. 10 minutes into eating we were told we needed to pay immediately cuz they were closing the cash register. The wait staff continued to stand around us watching us 1 wait staff even stood behind me with a rag waiting to wipe down the table while we were eating and it wasnt even 1045 yet. This was so rude i felt so uncomfortable eating my food. We were out of there by 10:55 the restaurant locked its doors at 10 57pm i said something to manager who just smiled. The food was mediochre at best. I would avoid this restaurant. There are much better Thai Restuarants around

A really solid Thai restaurant - my family has been ordering here 1-3 times a week for years. The menu is encyclopedic, but don't be daunted, as we have rarely been disappointed. Standout options include the one-bite chicken appetizer (perfectly balanced with lemongrass, chilies, and peanuts, and large enough for an entree), crying tiger appetizer (perfectly smoky grilled meat served with pleasantly piquant sauce), Pad prik khing (chili paste + green beans = crazy delicious), pad kraprao (basil chicken done right), as well as all the curry and noodle dishes (for spice fiends, the pad khee mao is delightful). Also, their rice is amazing - perfectly sticky and tender. The one thing that I don't like is the lunch buffet, but it's only marginally cheaper and faster than ordering off the menu, so there's really no reason to use it. As far as the service issues mentioned below, we have never had an issue, but I'll give the caveat that this may be because Asian women are inexplicably attracted to my father, and are likely giving him preferential service. Still, I've encountered very prompt and professional (if a bit curt) service the times I've been here without him.

I've gone here on numerous occasions because my parents love this place, but I've come to realize that the food isn't as good as I used to think it was. The quality of the food does not match its price. (I've gone to other places that have better quality at the same price, if not cheaper). However, I do think they have one of the better lunch buffets in the area and service here is always good. It's better to come here during lunch as it starts to get packed during dinner time.

I would say this place gets only 3 stars: why? -way overpriced for a chicken fried rice at $9.00. And no taste And extremely oily. - the majority of the waitresses were friendly, but hardly spoke any English. So it was hard to communicate with them. -portions were somewhat small. Would I go back? probably, but not often due to its prices.

Food is great on this place. We order curry fried rice, crouching tiger from there appetizer is delicious, too. I always like the take out order bec we had bad experience eating in. Couple months ago on a Sunday, it wasn't even busy one lady was taking care of us was very rude. We were sitting for awhile ready to order, she knows that were ready but when new customer came in she just ignored us like we weren't there. I was pissed that we just left ryt away. I would recommend the food but not the service!!!

3.5 This is where I usually get thai food around the skokie area. Great service and elephant-y decor. Their lime tofu is yummms, basically fried tofu with some sort of creamy lime sauce and dried kale? Their pad thai is a hit or miss... today was a miss ;o.. but I usually get their pad see eiw, which is usually gooood. I suppose this is the only sit down thai place around the burbs that I'd go to.

    (3)
  • Rowena A.

Ruby's food is consistently tasty! We usually get the lime chicken, chicken basil, and drunken noodles or pad see eiw. This is one of our go-to Thai restaurants in the neighborhood. (The other is Rosded Too on Waukegan.)

I am sorry the price and portion situation left me a little dismayed. The food taste not bad, but I have had better for the buck. I feel bad as this is close to my home and the menu looks great. If I hit the lottery on all the numbers and can put out of my mind the price differential being higher than that of comparitive establishments then I will return....

This is a really nice place to enjoy Thai food. The first time I stepped into this restaurant, I was really impressed with the atmosphere. Everything inside this place, from the decor, to music, to tables, and even the clothes the waiters have on... makes you feel like you are in another place. I've been here several times with my man (Who does not eat Thai food frequently at all.) However , he has enjoyed everything we've ordered so far. My favorite is the Tom Ka Kai soup. I like mine with Chicken and just a little bit spicier. The chicken in this soup is always tender and cooked perfectly. My husband's favorite here is the Pad See Iew and Pineapple Shrimp Fried rice. The food portion is a good size and the price is good. Soups run for less than $5 bucks, while main dishes range from $7- $10 bucks. The service is good. My only complaint is sometimes the waitress cannot speak English well, so its a little bit difficult. Would I recommend this place. Yes, its an absolute YUM experience!! and of course the food is great!!

    (4)
  • Kella M.

I've tried other items on their menu, but my favorite is their Tom Yum soup. It's the absolute best I've ever had. Even better than the ones I've had around the south Thai border. That's what I would rave about endlessly. I don't mind that it's all the way in Skokie because where it is, parking is always easy to find.

I looooove Thai cuisine and I heart Ruby of Siam! It has been my go to place for Thai for over twelve years. Whether I'm dining in or ordering to-go, this place is consistently great, very authentic, with quick and attentive service. Some stand-outs are the POA-PIA (veggie fried spring rolls), Ruby crab legs (their version of crab rangoon) And the dipping sauce is perfection! The TOM YUM soup is so flavorful, the PAD THAI is one of the best I've had anywhere, (I always order a side of peanut sauce for that extra yum factor!) the MASAMAN CURRY, one of my faves, (always ordered with perfectly cooked chicken) and the CURRY FRIED RICE (again with chicken) soooooo goooood!!! You could get both curry dishes as mild or as spicy as you like! I always know that I will feel totally satiated once I have a meal at Ruby of Siam. It's a hidden gem! So if you want great Thai food you need to check this place out ASAP! :)

Having spent six months in Thailand recently, I was apprehensive to return home and be able to have the same satisfying experience at some of my old and reliable Thai food haunts. As I figured, I have been underwhelmed by every Thai food experience since. My mother, a seasoned Thai food afficianado, swears by this place and though I wasn't completely floored by it, it did have some nice authentic touches. In the culinary arena, their peanut sauce was TO DIE FOR-best I've tried and enough to inspire a ton of memories of Bangkok food stalls to come flooding back. The sauce was amazing with their chicken satay (the only satay I tried though I'm sure its just as good with all the others too) and their noodle portion sizes are substantial considering how inexpensive everything is (a dinner for two with apps. was about than $25 but that was without alcohol since the place is BYOB). As for the service, they wait staff was definitely NOT super attentive though the food was ridiculously fast. It was a nice touch that their uniforms included traditional Thai touches such as the fact that they were each wearing sarongs with of the King or Queen's colors (yellow, pink, or blue) accented with the Thai monarchy's emblem, a point of extreme importance for all Thai people. All in all a mediocre food experience but almost worth it for the cultural nostalgia it brought back!

I discovered this place last month. It is great! I recommend their one bite chicken appetizer, it is so tasty. It's chicken with cilantro and lime served on lettuce. They really know how to season their food. I have been here four times and this place has not disappointed me. Also they are BYOB which is a plus.

Two words: LIME CHICKEN. TO DIE FOR..........................it's that good. I eat/order out from here often. So it's easy to say I've tried almost everything on the menu from here and I've never been let down. Their fried rice is the only fried rice I truly enjoy eating. It's not too greasy and it's flavorful enough to eat by itself. The noodles and curries are well done. My favs are: lime chicken, chicken pad kaprao, kang dang, beef fried rice, beef khee mao, and pad thai. Taste of the food here is consistent, whether you're here for the lunch buffet or ordering out. I get good service whether I'm dining in or getting delivery. They're prompt with the deliveries, although they don't start delivery til 5 p.m. There were a couple of times where we ordered delivery and got one wrong entree but they were very accommodating and sent over the right one within 15 mins. I'll take Ruby of Siam over any other Thai Restaurant any day =)

It's ok but not the greatest. Another stop on my all-city lard nar tour. (spelling varies by restaurant) It wasn't terrible but it wasn't excellent either. I was lured in by the good reviews but I didn't think it was that great. It was pretty full for a Sunday evening, it was clean, and everyone was friendly. Too bad my dinner had the consistency of molasses. I mean, I like my sauces to be saucy but this was too much. It was also way too sweet. I would most likely not come back here unless out of desperation, and I most definitely would not order the same thing.

We placed our order online at 6:50pm, having first phoned to make sure our address was in their delivery area. After placing our order online (I included additional directions for getting to our house, which in any case is not hard to find), we waited, and waited, and waited... At 7:45 I phoned to check up on our order--the lady answering the phone was unable to trace our order, and said she'd phone back -which she never did. Another 10 minutes passed, so I phoned back again--a different person answered, who determined that our order would take another 10 minutes. Finally, 1 hour 20mins after placing our order, the delivery man arrived with our food (we're located a little over a mile from the restaurant). He was very courteous, but indicated that he had previously been on a run to Glencoe, which presumably was the cause of the delay. Moral of the story: if you're going to go with this food option, don't order for delivery. Pick it up yourself (I was unable to do so). The crispy Lime Chicken was nice - though it's not a large dish -somewhere between an appetizer and entrée (explains why it's on both menu listings). The Kang Masaman curry was just OK, and was a little hotter than the 'medium' we specified on our order, and it wasn't particularly memorable compared to our usual local Thai restaurant. On the basis of the dreadful delivery experience and the 'OK' curry, I doubt we'll be returning to Ruby of Siam. The $3 we paid for delivery plus the $5 tip was really not deserved at all, and there are much better Thai options in Evanston (e.g. Pinto Thai).

A tab bit over priced for the quality of food that you get. This place is located in a strip mall type of setting. The staff are really nice! I would go back if I were too lazy to think of another place to go.

Ive been here a few times and the experience varies each time. Today I have to admit the food was HORRIBLE. Gravy was too watery on the Panang curry and the noodles smelled weird. One lady waitress wasnt very friendly but a guy there was REALLY NICE and took the smelly noodles off the bill. Def felt i wasted my money overall and I'm scared to go here again. However, the appetizer (spring rolls) were yummy! I really am upset about my experience today...maybe it was a different chef.

Not a huge fan of Thai food and this place didn't really do anything special for me. The food was one degree spicier than we expected. My buddy loves hot food and he was definitely sweating after a few minutes. I had panang curry - mild, because I'm a wuss when it comes to spicey - and it was definitely not mild. Food came out extremely fast, although service was lacking. I'll admit that we went pretty late (around 11pm), but I tried pretty hard to catch the attention of our waiter (or any employee) at one point. It really shouldn't have been that hard since we were the only customers they had at the moment and there were about six employees sitting around in the dining area talking to one another. In the end, my buddy just ended up giving me his untouched glass of water. Decorations were nice...except for the huge wooden tourist pushcart right in front of the door, filled with Thai souvenirs and t-shirts for sale. Why???

I go here every once in a while for the lunch buffet. The options are limited, but the food is delicious and the price is decent.

Great food. Great service. Great everything. What more do you need? They have some interesting food and interesting ice cream. It is a nice night whenever you go there.

I craaaave their curry (the specifics change depending on my mood) every once in awhile. I love it but honestly, it's a bit pricey for me because the portions are too small. I like that the waitresses wear traditional clothing, the whole theme works. And I always forget but the best part is the BYOB.

I absolutely love their unique one-bite noodle appetizer which is essentially a lettuce wrap with a layer of noodle that helps keep the meat from breaking through the lettuce. I haven't seen any other Thai restaurant offer it so that's my favorite part of the menu. Recently I also tried their menu item #77 -- which was a coconut infused rice with a plate of char-grilled chicken (very tender) and a plate of papaya salad. It was great to share and you get the best of both worlds - entree (meat) and salad. My only wish was for the salad to be spicier.. and I only asked for medium heat as I've had the tom yum noodle at the downtown location and it was enough spice to hit the spot. Sometimes you just never know how hot medium is at a Thai restaurant. tip: save room for the mango with sticky rice. I'm a fan!

try the lime chicken! I used to order from here all the time when I worked over at Old Orchard. The food is yummy and the service is great. I always make sure to give em' a good tip no matter if I'm dining in or ordering delivery. They also have a good amount of choices for dessert... many different flavors of ice cream that most people aren't used to. (filipino brand ice-creams) It's no wonder that this place is so highly rated by zagat, it's great!

Best, reasonably priced Thai food I've had in Chicago & the surrounding burbs. Very nice portions. Finally....they can make it hot.

I absolutely LOVE thai food and is very picky with thai food. There are some restaurants that are americanize and this is one that is not. You can tell their food is authentic and has lots of taste.. We always order chicken pad thai, spring roll, beef pad se ewe and beef fried rice. The staff is always nice and attentive. Im glad they opened another location in chicago!

Many years ago both my sister and best high school friend left me in Florida to go to different universities in the Chicago area. On one of my first visits, I was introduced to pad see ew. The wide, slightly sweet noodles with Chinese broccoli was an instant hit with me. This was not a dish I could find in the panhandle or central parts of the Sunshine state. Moving to Texas for grad school was no different. Only thin noodles and rarely did the establishment use Chinese broccoli. I went from restaurant to restaurant, not finding the authentic dish I first had in Chicago-land. On my most recent visit, I made sure to eat at a Thai spot and this one met all my expectations. The tofu with my pad see ew was incredibly flavorful and had excellent texture. My friend ordered the pad Thai, which was also amazing. Very friendly staff and prompt service. This place reinforced the quality world picture I had of Chicago pad see ew! If only we could get something vaguely close to it in the nation of Texas.

Ruby of Siam was one of my first Thai food experiences, and I absolutely fell in love with the place. The food here is reasonably priced, the portions are big, and the flavors are authentic. I love getting their curry fried rice....they add a generous amount of curry powder to the rice. Their noodle and specialty dishes are excellent as well! They also get ice cream from the local ice cream shop nearby...with flavors like mango, lychee, coffee, green tea, Thai tea and many more. If you're around Old Orchard mall, or just in the Skokie neighborhood, stop in to Ruby of Siam for a great meal!

Key Yelp: Extensive menu, BYOB, quick service (too quick), reasonable prices, cleanliness could be notched up....that's why it only gets 3 stars.... Review: Nobody has written this place up in about six months, so maybe this will provide timely color. A Saturday night dinner, our first visit, found the place pretty crowded but we were sat immediately. The decor is vintage Thai Tchotchke ....for example a little model temple blocks your bee line when you walk in; you can leave a coin for good luck, I surmise. There is also an awkward unused buffet bar taking up space at dinner time. Our table was a tad sticky....i hate that! There is also, in the weird department, an ice cream cooler along the wall. It does have ice cream in it, at least. On to the chow. BIG menu. Lots of apps and main courses. Plenty of vege dishes for THOSE people. Vege egg rolls were OK...a little greasy. Tod mun fish cake was really good. Tofu pad Thai was the right texture and flavor but lacked the large tofu hunks I crave. Duck with basil was good, crispy and flavorful. Egg plant with black beam sauce was yummy. The service was great and they cleared plates, etc. However we experienced the dreaded "app entree overlap" snafu whereby appetizers in mid-consumption are awkwardly displaced by premature entree-arrival. So embarrassing! Net/net the value and food quality was good. If I lived in Skokie I would be all over this place for take-out. Give it a shot.

this place has good thai food. consider this though, im on sort of a mission to bring awareness to diners about thai food. isnt thai food always good? arent the servers always nice? isnt the place always decent? thai has become the most predictable experience for me lately, and its trendiness is really getting old for me. its played out, sorry. that being said, yea the food here is good...thai is never REALLY good, but its ALWAYS good. u wont be disappointed here.

I've deleted everything that I'd previously written about this place because I really wanted to emphasize one thing that pushes me to order thai food from Ruby of Siam, even if I'd been craving Mexican food a moment earlier. Their CRAB RANGOON is off the chain. Otherwise I've always thought they served the best Thai in this area.

saw they had a lunch buffet and i was hungry enough to try it out. service: horrible, the waitress didn't do anything but bring me a water, no napkins, no silverware. I understand that i ordered the buffet, but at least you should give me something to begin with. food: ok at best. All their meats are cooked really dry, not even close to tender. Best (relatively) items are the tofu pad thai and the little eggrolls. The buffet should def. cost under 10 bucks (imo, 7$ at best) which i paid (tax included) ~14$. Not worth it at all. Will not return to this place.

This is my go-to thai delivery place. The food is fantastic. The other night we ordered the mild yellow curry with chicken and the beef pad siew. The curry was creamy and dreamy -- with chunks of sweet potato and onions. I was stuffed and I still went back for seconds for that curry. It was so good! The pad siew was also awesome. The noodles were just the right texture and the beef was really tasty. I've only dined-in a few times and it was also enjoyable. You can't beat the parking situation -- a large strip mall parking lot. The prices are a ittle higher than most thai places, but you can really tell the difference in the quality so I believe it's worth it.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant on Earth....but maybe that's because we always order carry-out or delivery. I stopped in here for lunch a couple times recently and had consistently less than awesome service, but the food was still great. I hiiiiighly recommend the egg drop soup, any kind of fried rice (it has the perfect amount of cilantro and ugh it's just too good), and lime chicken (exactly like the lime tofu someone mentioned previously...except... chicken!! :) but I'll be trying that tofu next time). Very affordable too.

I was staying across the street at the DoubleTree hotel, and wanted someplace near to eat. The hotel staff suggested Ruby of Siam, and it is understandable why this was their go-to recommendation. First, the location is super convenient. So that may only be a concern if you're staying at that particular hotel, it is also quite close to the Old Orchard Mall, and given the somewhat uninspiring dining choices there, this is a quick and easy place to get to when doing shopping at the mall. Second, the food is quite tasty. The pot stickers are among the best I've ever had, and Pad Thai was also very good. The service was very attentive -- perhaps a bit too much at times. There were two occasions where I felt like I was being watched, and the minute I started the last drink of my soda the waitress was there to ask me mid-drink if I wanted another. I appreciate the attention, but the staff could afford to relax a bit. If I find myself in the Skokie area again, I'll certainly go again. The food was priced fairly, tasted fresh, and though the place was a little on the generic side on the inside, overall it was a pleasing experience. Would I drive from the city to eat there? Probably not. I tend to base my stars on how far I'd go to get there - some of my favorite restaurants have brought me from many miles away - this one probably doesn't fit into that category... I think Yelp's description of "Yay! I'm a fan." is apt.

This place got me through my first pregnancy. I thank god for Ruby of Siam for easing my transition to suburban dining. We moved out to the burbs when I got pregnant and suddenly realized that our addiction to Thia food could no longer be satisfied. The first thing we did was panic -- especially the hubby who had visions of himself doing midnight Thia runs back to the city. But, being the smart guy that he is, he found Ruby's, which probably saved our marriage during that first trimester. Their Pinang Beef is close to the best I've had--spiced to order. Their chicken satay is awesome. Everything we've had at Ruby's has been outstanding. Well, maybe not the soups but it's just a matter of preference. Anyway, my daughter is now 7 and truly perfect so, thank you Ruby of Siam.

My first experience here was a bad one....but I can not tell a lie. I have returned several times now. The service and food that I have received since my first review has been excellent. Really nice people, really good food. I would highly recommend their appetizers and curries. Their pad thai is also excellent. One of the best Thai Iced Coffees ever. The only thing that I can not recommend is their Pad Prik dishes that feature chili. It is prepared with powder.

I really like the Ruby. I live nearby and it's one of the few places besides Jimmy John's that delivers. They have a decent lunch buffet that isn't too expensive and in season they have a pumpkin custard that's really good. It's some of the best Thai food in the Chicago area

Unfortunately this place has gone backwards in flavor and freshness :( we always used to order it at work but the last 8 months or so we gave up. Not only has the food not been enjoyable, this place can't figure out when they want to deliver...either there is a delivery service or not! Oh well, not our problem anymore. It's really too bad because my husband and I used to enjoy going there for dinner and now we no longer have a great Thai restaurant to frequent...

These guys are popular, especially in thailand, like celebrities. The food has become progressively "commercialized". Food has become to bland in some areas where they use to be really flavorful. Sorry but Its time to move on.

The key to this place is that it is consistently good! They've got the best pad thai in the north shore area. Whether you order the basic pad thai, curry, or other noodle dishes, it's always spot on. Their soup is great too (tom yum and bean thread noodle). You're better off eating in vs. delivery or pick up. We go at least once per month, usually twice. The buffet is great too -- sometimes it takes them a while to refill, but if you get a fresh batch, you're golden. It's BYOB, making it very affordable. We love it!

the food here is so so good. i've had thai from other places, but nothing is ever as good as ruby. their khao soy is hands down the best dish there. anything with coconut milk and curry actually is off the hook. their crab rangoon is reallyyy good too, because it comes like a roll, kind of looks like a taquito, and its just so easy to eat and yummy. and of course their pad see iew is delish, as well as their pad thai. oh and one bite noodle for an app. yum yumm. seriously, don't think you could go wrong with anything you order at ruby. highly recommended.

food is fine actually very good, service is inconsistent. I once ordered out for pick up and had to re order when I got there, waited 45 min thay got order wrong and didn't care. I don't leave negative reviews-at least so far but their attitude that night was poor

Ruby of Siam is a staple in our household...it may as well be on the food pyramid as far as my family is concerned. We order from there quite often, and whenever we have the urge to order in...my 5 year old's response is always...mmm..."yummy noodles" (Pad See Ew, no meat, extra noodles). We love this place, and it's consistently good...never had a bad meal at Ruby.

Delicious Thai food and the buffet is awesome! Had some not so good experiences with staff over the years, but overall, it hasn't been enough to stop me from going repeatedly. It's a great restaurant and the Tom Yum soup is great on a cold winter's day. Enjoy!

The place is clean and the food is good and not too pricey. We love the curry fried rice at this place enough to overlook their sometimes flakey (quite informal) service, but the people are always nice, and the food's the most authentic we've seen yet.
