A solid option if you're in the area and don't have the time or want to drive all the way over to Poochie's or Hub's. Come to think of it, if the Poochie's and Hub's menus had a baby... it would be Duke's. Service was quick, and the food was made to order. Who still has RC in a fountain? (you can get coke in a bottle or can.) I miss when this place was Bumpkin's. My aunt used to take me there once in a blue moon so I could play the old school pacman video game, you know, the one that was set into the table? Those were the good old days...

This place took me way back to those little hole in the wall Chicago burger joints that were hidden. I had the double cheese burger here and it was amazing! The prices are great and they have a lot of combo deals. The owner was very nice we had a convo about football while he was making my food which was cool cause then you don't mind waiting til your food is ready. I have to go back to this spot to try their steak sandwich cause a place that has a Chicago burger that good must have a good skirt steak sandwich too. Don't expect a high end burger or anything fancy, it's just a good (little sloppy) grilled burger.

I went here once when it was supposed to be open and the doors were locked. I just finally went again when I saw someone actually inside. Ordered some hot dogs and a jumbo dog. All of the hot dogs were withered and dry. I didn't even eat them after taking one bite. Basically I just wasted my money because this place screwed up the easiest thing in the world to make. I will not be returning for a third time.

This was a quick lunch trip in between a practice I had at my old high school. Mind you that when I was in high school this space was occupied by Bumpkins which was your typical burger/hot dog joint. It was easily accessed by teenagers who were allowed time of campus if there schedule allowed. When my sister and I walked into Duke's we were not sure that the place was still open. The parking lot was kinda vacant, but when we walked in people did start to show up. The menu was all over the place, which is typical of most hot dog/burger places. I ordered a fish sandwich and had a burger. The food was just okay. Nothing that really stood out, but it was typical of the greasy/charred food you can expect at a burger/hot dog joint. I'm not even sure what I used to get at Bumpkins. Would it bring back a sense of nostalgia? Maybe, but then again would a pizza puff at one place really be as earth shatteringly good as I thought it was almost two decades ago? Ugh probably not. My tastebuds had to grow up some time.

It's cheap and greasy, and sometimes that's exactly what you're looking for. This is a true dive, where all of the fried foods taste like the same kinda stale frying oil. The service, though, is very pleasant and you can get a cheesburger, fries, and a side for about $7. They don't pretend to be anything they're not, and I'm alright with that.

I used to go here all the time when it was, 'Bumpkins.' Not only bc it was so close to where I live, but bc the food was so good. Since it became, 'Dukes,' I went there a couple times and was dissatisfied with the food. It's been a while since I've been there, so maybe it is better now, but there's no way it'll ever be as good as it was when it was, 'Bumpkins.'

I stop at this place just about every time I am in the area. The food is always freshly made and consistent. Service is reasonably fast considering the size of the kitchen, but I am typically in there at off peak times. I have always gotten the chicken pita and it's the best I've had. Their fries are great, always crispy, and compliment the meal perfectly. I think after ordering the chicken pita a half dozen times now, I will maybe try the gyro next time.....maybe!!

So here was the dilemma that prompted my first visit: - I am near the Illinois Holocaust Museum. - I am with a 90-year-old Jewish grandmother who is famished. - We only have about twenty minutes for lunch. So we came here. Standard Chicago issue orangy-yellow formica bright hot dog stand, located conveniently west of the Old Orchard mall mess. Easy in. Easy out. Service as fast or faster than a fast food chain. And better food for about the same prices. Delores had the dog. I the Italian beef. Sandwiches and fries were good. We got in and out in about a half hour. Decent fast food option near Old Orchard when you need quick access (and if you are mall averse like me.) It's Bubbe-friendly, too.

Used to stop here many years ago and there is a new owner and maybe a new name. We ordered the 2 hotdog with fries special to split, ofr only $3.99, great price compared to SD deals. The dogs were Vienna, the buns poppy seed, and with all the dressing, it was ok. The dog was lukewarm and the fries were passable. 2 drinks cost as much as the meal, and they charge $.50 for refills. THey also serve burgers, steak sandwiches and gyros. Too bad Poochies is now closed....

Better than mcdonalds. And cheaper too. When i gave my dog his portion he was surprised by the cheese fries and coughed them back up. I think the cheese was too sticky or somethong. He then re ate them.

I used to go here when the place was Bumpkins, and before that when it was romies(sp). The place has gone downhill. I'm not sure who the new owners are, because I only new the old owners. Anyway, the hotdogs they serve weren't good, and they skimp on the toppings. Not to mention the attitude I got. STAY AWAY! If you're in Skokie Try Herms or Poochies on Dempster. They're just blocks apart.

Chris W. is right. This place used to be called Bumpkins and I loved it, too. I confess that I'm somewhat biased because the couple working behind the counter remind me of my parents -- immigrants who are still going through major culture shock while working hard -- so I'd give them a bit of leeway if they haven't absorbed the warmth and friendliness we Americans typically expect. But the Italian beef that I had was solid and their fries were light and yummy (though, in light of my father's recent heart ailments, I ate only about a third). I'm glad that there's still a Vienna-style hot dog/Italian beef joint in the Golf/Lawler area, and hope that it never closes down. I'm also glad that it's a family-owned Vienna Beef place, especially since it looks like Portillo's is slowly but surely corporatizing these types of places through the Chicagoland area.

This place used to be Bumpkins. But now they have different owners, sadly, I may add. The old owners used to be more about the customers, these new people aren't as friendly, they're quick to rush you into an order and they just have a little attitude even when they're not busy. It's really disappointing. Bumpkin's used to be one of my favorite places to eat when they had arcade games in the corner and served Green River on tap. They only have a really basic cheap-o selection of soda's now you can get with 50 cent refills. They've got a box TV with awful reception but nonetheless it's always on. It's actually a good place to sit down, your food is served in baskets and there are tables of 2 and 4 seats. They do have pretty decent food, better than Teddy's and other places like that because I believe they kept some of the same recipes. At least it tastes like it. Their fries even taste HEALTHYish, in the way that they're perfectly deep fried in an oil that tastes lighter than McDonald's (etc.) fry oil. They cook everything fresh for you, and I recommend the gyros, hot dogs, cheddar burgers and if you're looking for something REALLY good, the best foods they serve there are without a doubt cheese fries and breaded fried mushrooms. Warning, their food is really greasy. And they don't have arcade games anymore :(. But I recommend it. I'd be sad if the place closed down.

i tried this place twice, and on the second time I actually got very sick - diarrhea with throwing up to be exact. I'm still having diarrhea (third day now). :( Their burgers are so-so, and their fries are just too greasy. Their cooking oil must not have been changed at all recently - it has a funny taste to it. Their soft drink selection is limited - RC products. I would never go and eat here again.
