I've been hearing about Manny's since I met my husband in 1996. I finally got a chance to try it when we took our kids on a road trip over spring break. OMG. FANTASTIC pizza. We had their tacos and they brought back wonderful memories of tacos from a place in Riverside,CA called Gay & Larry's (Now closed) that my family visited for every family celebration. Wonderful. It loves up to the hype for sure!

Like many other reviewers, we had heard word of mouth promotions of Manny's. We were excited to take a leisurely drive from DBQ today and have a late lunch there (2pm). We noted what appeared to be a newer building. We opted to sit in the bar side where there were TVs to check in on a golf tournament. Bartender greeted us from behind the bar, before we seated ourselves asking "what we wanted to drink". Within a minute he brought our tea and soda to our table and asked to take our order. As newbies we needed a bit of time to look at the menu, although not an extensive menu. I ordered 2 chicken enchiladas and my husband ordered a pizza. We found it interesting that my chicken enchiladas were delivered within about 10 minutes... And my husbands pizza took another 30 minutes. I gathered we should have indicated to bartender we wanted to dine together.. Chicken enchiladas were ok. Corn shell with loads of cheese. The sauce the bartender suggested w the enchiladas tasted and looked watery. The pepperoni sausage mushroom pizza was very greasy with crust that was tough (couldn't be cut with a fork). Mushrooms were canned and tasted like dish soap. Bartender was attentive in refilling beverages but not as attentive with getting us our check. We enjoy local eateries, glad we tried but disappointed in experience and won't likely be back.

Pizza and mexican - who knew? Nice, newer building with a big bar area and a big restaurant area too. Not much on tap beyond your basics, and the menu said $8-9 for a drink (I wasn't clear if that's per pitcher, but I sure hope so). We had an order of nachos (forgot to supreme it, d'oh!), an order of bacon cheddar fries, a meat lovers, and a sausage pizza. The total bill with tip came to just under $50 which wasn't too bad. The nachos were just chips out of a bag with some vending cheese (expected). The bacon cheddar fries were smothered in cheese and real bacon bits with a not quite ranch / dill side. They were tasty, but considering the cheese probably better for a couple rather than friends. Both pizzas were really really greasy, a little burnt, and nothing to write home about. They did fill the belly, but were just absolutely forgettable. A sauce was included that looked a bit like salsa, but even in hefty amounts couldn't be tasted or felt (heat wise) on the pizza. The bathrooms were clean and nice, and there's a small 3-4 spot lot and street parking in front. I did like that the booths in the bar area comfortably sat 6. They almost squeaked out a 4th star since they were showing MotoGP on the TV, but I'm pretty sure it was a complete accident (leftover channel from college football the day before). The bartender was nice enough to set another TV to the race for us though.

My family and I ate here while in town and had an issue with the service. We had ordered two pizzas and a taco salad; one of our pizzas didn't come for an hour after we ordered it because it was overlooked. We asked for the manager and she handled it very well offering us free funnel cake sticks and she gave us the price of the second pizza back in cash. Although we had that issue it was still a somewhat pleasant experience. Great for families with young ones..definitely not quiet though.

I used to come here all the time as a kid. I am so glad they rebuilt! I decided to try something new and ordered the chicken bacon ranch pizza which was wonderful. I also got tacos. They are authentic Mexican but very good. Mannys never disappoints. It's a go to place when I am visiting the area.

I really don't put up reviews unless the place is fantastic or you need to warn people. Please don't go here, it is a warning! We went once before and had the pizza. Greasy, tasteless, too horrible to eat. This time we couldn't get into a restaurant in a nearby town so we were stuck with this. Not much in this town for restaurants. We ordered combo plates, tostada, taco and enchilada. Everything incl. sour cream and rice and beans was extra. We sat in dining room for about 45 minutes then asked about our dinner. Lots of people getting their food ahead of us, we had to remind them Noisy place with kids running around even tho it was 9 pm at night. Food was almost inedible. We ate the lettuce, meat and cheese, and the enchilada. The soft taco I ordered had tons of grease on it, couldn't even touch it, and the only good part was the refried beans with cheese. No wonder they make you pay when you order. And there was a cold piece of pizza under the table. We won't be going back ever again.

There aren't many options in this town. The food is cheap, but so is the quality. The pizza was extremely greasy, and the Mexican options were pretty tasteless. Any Mexican dish if you wanted sour cream or anything there was an extra charge. The beer/liquor selection was extremely sad. Also if you want to eat together go somewhere else food comes out whenever it's ready, and when they bring it out they just yell your name. Given the size of this place you can almost never hear them. I watched more than one item take multiple attempts to be served, so I me sure it was cold by the time people got it. Two stars only because good luck finding someplace else to eat in this small town.

After hearing so much hype about manny's pizza, I was really excited to go here and try it. However, I wish I had just stayed home and made a frozen pizza because it would have been way better than coming to manny's! If u like pizza swimming in grease, then this is the place for you! The pizza was so greasy that it tasted as if someone dumped a bunch of water on top of it... Absolutely the wettest pizza I have ever tasted in my life!!! Also, the atmosphere of the restaurant was extremely crowded with annoying kids running around and screaming! I can't count the amount of times I had been bumped/shoved by an unruly child. I definitely won't be coming back here again, so disappointed...

I was in Thomson and my partner brought me to this restaurant in the metropolis of Savanna, explaining that it had been rebuilt after a fire. The tacos are great-authentic Mexican/Guatemala style with homemade type corn tortillas. The pizza was also good-we had the 'works plus' which was thin crust style, and better than I expected. The prices on food and drinks are good. The service is awful. After being seated, we were never check on again, despite a two hour stay. You've got to go to the bar to get a drink, and getting a glass of water...well, not going to happen. By 8pm it was loud and rowdy-with families, which is fine. I think for a village the size of Savanna this is probably a pretty good joint. If you're from Chicago, or St. Louis, or Indianapolis, you might be disappointed.

One star for the crust that was cracker thin, but the toppings were bad. Previously frozen onion and green peppers. Canned mushrooms. Sausage that tasted like hamburger. Price was fine, but I can't recommend it.

Food good and greasy. Kids bussing tables were really hustling. Took twenty minutes to get a single taco, and forty minutes to get our pizza. So don't go if you are in a hurry or already hungry.

Just awful. I had this pizza one night and was not impressed in the least. It was delivered wrong and graciously replaced, but it was over priced and just not very good. I live in Chicago and even the crappy places around here are better.

We went for my birthday on a Friday 7/19. It was my first time to Manny's but I read the reviews and thought...why not try it. We had kids with us who ordered cheese pizza & pepperoni pizza, my wife ordered a Mexican taco salad....I went for a garbage pizza. Taco salad comes asap.....pepperoni pizza 20 minutes later, cheese 15 minutes after that...garbage maybe 15 more minutes. Seems they batch their pizza types....but don't think that people might want to eat at the same time. I sat there waiting and waiting.....p*ssed off that I chose this as my b-day location. Ruined my night. Pizza ok if you have a bunch of kids to serve cheese pizza to.

I visit Northwest Illinois once ever year or two. My wife and I make one stop - EVERY visit - It is Manny's Pizza. We live in Southern California and NOBODY here offers pizza like Manny's. If you like thin pizza, we have found nothing better on earth - GREAT JOB Manny's. PS - The taco's are also about as good as it gets. Manny's knows what they do well and they stick to it.

Maybe if we had ordered a different topping it wouldn't have been so bad, but we got a pepperoni pizza and it was more greasy than any we've had in the past. Otherwise, it was a nice, clean restaurant.

So sad to hear Sal and the gals & boys won't be making my favorite deep fried tacos and pizza for a bit. Manny's burnt down.... it's a guess, but I'm thinking it was grease oriented. I would make a pilgrimage to Savanna for Manny's Pizza (pepperoni and green olive), Tacos, and a few quarter games of "Copy Cat" about 4 times a year. Hope they are planning on rebuilding, and rebuilding quickly!

The atmosphere at Manny's is friendly and it is very clean which is a plus. Those expecting waiter service won't get it. It's order at a counter and they'll walk around the restaurant hollering your name which isn't the worst thing in the world. The bacon ranch fries are pretty good, and the nachos supreme are a nice presentation but completely lack any sort of flavor. The chips seem to be made in house which I liked. We were told to order the tacos, by a local, because according to him they are the BEST tacos ever. We ordered a pizza and one taco to go. When we got to our destination about 4 minutes away and opened the box we were a little scared to eat it. My wife took one bite of her cheese pizza and couldn't eat any more. I was able to eat about two slices and that's only because I'm fat and I was starving. If you have ever left shredded cheese out on the counter too long or on a dish overnight on the counter and had to look at the next morning that's what the cheese on this pizza looked like and tasted like. I took one bite of the taco and was done. I don't know why they try to combine a Mexican restaurant and a pizzeria but it doesn't work. They have 4 menu items for their Mexican side- taco, enchilada, tostada and taco salad (buy one or three). As I said the place was clean and the atmosphere was nice which is where the two stars come in (that and $2.50 beer helps). Food would get zero stars. Sorry guys, concentrate on one thing and make that one thing the best it can be.

Their pizza looks and tastes like saltine crackers covered with pizza sauce and cheese. So, if you want to order cheese and crackers, then Manny's is the place for you.

Manny's is a Savanna staple. The pizzas and tacos are super greasy, but you must indulge when visiting the Savanna area. The food kind of reminds me of Mom/ Grandma's cooking... Is it the best most amazing pizza & tacos on the planet? Nope. But it's hometown- Savanna pizzas and tacos and that's what makes it good & comforting. It's a great place to meet up with friends and family & just catch up :)

The pizza and "Mexican" food at Manny's are true small town creations, bursting with the flavors of the midwest: cheese, grease, and carbohydrates. It's true. The tacos are deep fried, and you'd best not watch the puddle of orange tinged grease as it pools on the paper towel in your taco basket, or you just might start to feel bad. The yellow cheese melts to become one with the beef filling. There is ice-berg lettuce and chopped tomato, and a "salsa" that you squirt on that also tastes mostly of tomato. This is an all-American, Midwestern taco at its best. The pizza comes in many varieties, but as a fellow home-town reviewer said, it's best to keep it simple--one or two toppings, mostly to add the flavors of salty or earthy to the crispy cracker crust, plain tomato sauce, and sheen of greasy cheese. Last time I was there we had three--sausage, green pepper and onion, and that was pushing it, but I hardly consider onion a topping anyway, so we were good. The new space is much larger than the old one, but they still use the painful system of taking names and then wandering around and yelling those names when your food is ready. Do yourself a favor and call ahead no matter what time you're going there. When you're in the mood for the grease, you don't want any extra time to reconsider what you're about to consume. They have other food, I guess, but for me its only the tacos and the pizza.

We finally were able to eat at the NEW Manny's. I have to say, it didn't disappoint! It was the same food, a "kinder gentler" atmosphere...I miss the old Manny's in that respect. But hey it was still MANNY'S. We went there on a FREEZING COLD night (wind chill around 15 BELOW). We had pizza and taco's....NUFF SAID! As we were walking to the car, the bartender (I cannot remember his name...but he's been a fixture there for decades) came running out in the cold to deliver my wallet. That's something above and beyond. Thanks to him the rest of our trip went smooth as planned and we headed south the next day for our Midwest Food Trip 2013.

I have to represent for my hometown--Savanna, Illinois. (Can I get a "What! What!"?) Anyone reading this review from out-of-town should keep in mind that this review was written by someone from the home team. Tourists may not agree. Manny's Pizza is a Savanna staple. When we were in high school, I remember all the kids on the basketball teams would each consume a large pizza--per person! No celebratory occasion passed without this tasty must-have being served en mass. And no one returns home for a visit without at least one visit to Manny's. (I'm pretty sure they revoke your hometown membership if you don't.) Manny's is super-thin crust, baked atop cornmeal, which sometimes sticks in chunks to the bottom of the crust for even more crunch. I'm telling ya, if you grew up with it, you'd love it, too! I'm not sure how they do it, but the cheese is actually covered in grease when they serve it to you. We would use napkins to soak it up, and then dive in, a slice in each fist. The sauce is totally simple--just tomato, nothing more. This is the kind of pizza that tastes best with just one of two toppings--like mushroom and olive. If you're cruising Savanna for a visit, you have to try the food of the locals. Hey, maybe you'll become addicted, too!

Can't wait for the good ol folks at Manny's to rebuild! Heard you had a little fire...I'm guessing the grease had something to do with it. This place wasn't much to look at but they know thin thin pizza pie and while you are waiting you have to have an order of the deep fried tacos. These folks actually put the meet in the taco shell then drop it into the fryer to crisp it up. Can you hear my arteries slamming shut? Seriously great stuff while having an ice cold one or two. We would drive an hour and a half just to have pizza and tacos and drive home with 3-5 frozen pies to make at home. PLEASE REBUILD!
