In town on business. Felt like walking, didn't want Italian so Nicks it was. Had the special new england clam chowder. I asked if it was better than the lobster bisque and was told it was exceptional. It came out fairly fast..... I've had better clam chowder out of a can, so I was disappointed with the recommendation. I also wasn't too hungry so I also got a chicken and lobster salad. It took a while (I wrote ths whole review after soup while I waited for the salad). This place is not worth the money. So long story short - $35 after a drink(diet coke), tax, and tip for soup and salad..... At least I didn't have to pay for it(thanks boss!) I'll stick with my hotel bar for food for the rest of my trip. It'll probably be about the same quality and less expensive. UPDATE - I originally wrote this before my salad came, and I had given it 1 star. The salad provided a little bit of redemption. It was a lobster and grilled chicken salad. The portion was bigger than I expected. It had 6 lobster claw halves (3 claws in total) and around 4 oz of chicken. It also had greens, tomatoes, mangos, and a balsamicc dressing. I was pleased with the salad. It was almost worth the $16 price tag. My one complaint was the lobster, while a decent quantity, tasted a little briny (salty). It was cooked to perfect tenderness. Really, the biggest problem is that it was lost in the salad. There were so many strong flavors in the salad, that if I took a bite of salad that had lobster - I didn't know there was lobster. If I wanted to know I was eating lobster i had to eat it with nothing else on my fork.. Anyway, the salad was good enough to bump this up to 2 stars.

I spent New Years Eve at Nick's and I have to say it was memorable in two distinct ways. First, the waitstaff were wonderful, they were very attentive and neither my water nor wine went below half full. Second; the food, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't memorable. It was bland and the portions were tiny. I ordered the mixed grill and was disappointed when I received my plate. It contained 2 medium sized shrimp, a single scallop, 2 small (2"x2"x1") pieces of tuna and the same size bite of Mahi Mahi. The center of the plate contained rice covered with sliced vegetables. All were cooked well and there was a sauce on the sides of the plate for dipping, but the meal lacked flavor and frankly, I felt ripped off. This meal was $36.00. My fiancee ordered Chilean sea bass. The crust was soggy, the mashed potatoes lacked imagination. What a disappointment. The best thing we ordered was the calamari appetizer, the wasabi sauce was wonderful and the portion was adequate. Our bill was $160.00 before tip. What a total disappointment.

This place isn't cheap, but it's worth it. I had the Dover Sole with the brown butter sauce, it was divine. I was in Chicago for a conference and I ended up here because I wanted something nice but somewhat near my hotel. The service was really good as well. It's a definite consideration when I am back in the Chicago area.

The food was good but for that price it should have blown me away. For what they charge, they could give you a little more. I think they use the extra money to pay for such attentive staff. They never let a glass go empty, or let a finished plate sit around for too long. I love the little touches such as dimming the lights over our table when were not reading a menu or turning the table to make it easier to slide into the boot with out pulling the table cloth along.

I had the Roasted Salmon. It was...ok. I've just as good for less than half the price ($33). The restaurant appears to be a very fancy place, but being in a hotel lobby, there were all kinds of dress codes. I don't think they care as long as you lay down the cash. There was a full bar and a good variety of food. There is only valet parking ($5) if you don't take a taxi. Not my favorite fish place, but it was decent.
(3)Carrie W.
I ended up at Nick's on a business trip, which is probably the only way I was going to end up there - the 4 $ rating is pretty accurate. But to look beyond the $30-55 price tag for an entree...the food was really quite good, and the service was excellent. I will say, parking was a trick - the restaurant is in an office building, there is a valet, but he wasn't there, and finding a place to park involved driving around the building and walking. Then we got in there and the restaurant was pretty dead at dinner time (granted, a week night). The entire space is very dimly lit, and has really more of a high end steakhouse feel. The menu is not too extensive, maybe 8-10 offerings, which I prefer. I really found the food fantastic all around. I can recommend the lobster bisque as an appetizer, but the seared tuna appetizer looked fantastic (only from across the table). The Chilean Sea Bass was the waiter's primary suggestion, and apparently the most popular item on the menu (also the cheapest, $30, I think). The fish was cooked perfectly, and the asian slaw and mashed potatoes were a very nice accompaniment. The asian style sauce was a little sticky sweet for me, but it fit with the dish, I was overall very pleased. Also...not that any of us needed dessert, but I think everyone ordered one, they all looked excellent, again, and I can say the molten chocolate was fantastic, though I couldn't begin to finish half of it. That looked the best to me, but I think I'm biased by chocolate. I think we were around $350 for 4 people, including one midrange bottle of wine, and I don't feel like that was unreasonable at all. I really don't have much at all negative to say about the place, and in their price range I'm pretty critical.
(5)T B.
I'm still not sure about this place. I was looking forward to this dinner, but totally caught off guard. You have to valet park or walk from another lot, which seems like total crap considering the location and an attempt to get an extra $5 from every patron. The restaurant is in the lobby of a hotel - huge bar, lots of people coming and going, dimly lit. It would appear to be a fancy place, but because it's in a hotel you get all sorts of people just walking in so I didn't feel bad that I was in a summer dress, flip-flops and my hair a mess. The menu has lots of creative dishes and we ordered Cajun Tuna and Almond-Crusted Halibut. The fish was cooked perfectly and tasty, but portions were a bit on the skimpy side. We ordered crab cakes and they were dinky looking. The wine list is pretty big, pricey though. The service is great here and they staff really does a great job to take care of you, but that's the best I can say. For the price, I've had much better and much more. I'm sure there is something better in the area that comes with a smaller bill!

I have not been here in a while but this place is the place for fresh non frozen fish. It's flown in daily so that's why it's so expensive. It's a little bit outdated looking but you can look past that and get ready for some mouthwatering meals. I recommend the dover sole.

I've visited Nick's Fishmarket in Rosemont three times. My first outing was a group business dinner with a set menu ... it was the key lime pie that brought me back with a colleague months later. Upon my return I had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was one of the best preparations of that particular fish I've had. My colleague was envious of my entree. Of course, I had to have the key lime pie. I ventured there again for a late dinner with my husband and again had the sea bass & my husband had the tuna special. Delicious! Service has always been excellent. No key lime pie this time but the thought will definitely bring me back one day. Great place for business dinners. Among airport area eats, it's a WINNER - choose Nick's over hotel food.

My husband and I went here last weekend and I personally had a horrifying dining experience. The only two things that's got this place even one star were the attentive wait staff and the Dover sole special they have. We started off with the 'combination' appetizer. The oyster on the half shell was perfect but the tuna tartare could have done without the filo-shell. The salmon lollipop was good, but nothing extraordinary and the 2 cocktail shrimp w/ way too much cocktail sauce were just okay. Not worth $16/person. Then came the main dishes. My husband got the Dover sole which they had a table side presentation to remove the bones (it was impressive) and the fish itself was the best fish I've ever had! The fingerling potatoes were undercooked and over salted. The green beans were blanched prematurely so I could still taste the rawness of the bean. They also had absolutely no flavor to them. My entree was the mixed grill which comes with two shrimp, two scallops, two bite-size pieces of tuna, veggies and rice pilaf and sauce on either side of the plate. For $37, that is not enough food nor did it look impressive to me. I went to try some of the rice and vegetables and started choking immediately. I realized I'd choked on a STRAND OF HAIR! Yes, I found hair in my food!!!!! I sent it back and had lost my appetite completely. They offered to replace the food but I just couldn't think about eating anything from there after that! I let my husband finish his fish but he didn't eat much more after that. The manager took off our drinks (diet coke and an iced tea) off the bill. That's it!!!!!! You ruin someones meal and all you do is take off $5 worth of stuff off the bill?! I would expect hair in my food at Denny's but if you claim to be a high end place, you better check to make sure there isn't hair in anyone's food! I had this place listed as one of my possibilities for our anniversary but I know I will NEVER go back!

WARNING! There are two different Nick's Fishmarkets located in Rosemont, Il. I am familiar with the one on Higgins and 45. Not sure where the other one is located. Do not know if it is the same owners or the same quality. Nick's Fishmarket on Higgins and 45 has great food and quality service.

I've never heard of this resturant until our friends told us that they had a gift certificate there, so we went on a double date to give it a try. I was very impressed by this resturant. The waitstaff was extremely attentive: everytime I returned from the restroom, they pulled out my chair and my napkin was refolded. The food was spectacular! My fiance ordered king crab legs and they were cut in half-I know this is naive, but I've never seen it before. For dessert, I ordered the creme brulee trio, and it was so good! **VERY expensive (the gift certificate didn't even make a dent in the total), but worth it**

This place is fantastic! I proposed to my now fiance there and they were wonderful about working with what I had in mind. I called ahead and spoke with the GM who made sure we had a table that was romantic and would work with the plans I had in mind. She also briefed the staff ahead of time so I did not have to do anything once I got to the restaurant. The evening went flawlessly and I couldn't have been happier. I would definifelty recommend Nick's to anyone.

Really nice, full service restaurant that serves top notch seafood, steak, and other dishes, all to be expected in a 5 star restaurant. Dress nice (more than casual), and reservations are required. This kind of a place is more for adults, though I think they can accomodate kids too. I'd probably prefer this place over Rosetta, and is about, more or less, par with Bob Chin's, but at least at Nick's, its fairly quiet so you can enjoy your meal. Some little things to note: sugar, NutraSweet, or sugar water for your tea & coffee, silverware is nice enough to steal, clean tablecloths abound, and staff are all in formalwear to cater to your needs. Not quite 5 stars due to the fact that our waiter disappeared, though we were still served adequately with the rest of the staff and another waiter did assist us later. I think the one in downtown is a bit better on the wait staff part, but both are practically identical.
(4)Stacy K.
Super great food, wonderful staff, peaceful atmosphere (dark, good for date night). We all had the filet and it was wonderful. I asked for a medium steak and it came out a little too red. I asked if I could get it cooked a tad longer (politely) and they did no problem. When they brought the check they told us dessert was on the house since I had to ask to cook the steak longer. We didn't complain at all, they just offered. Brilliant customer service. Loved this place.

This is an unbelievable place for couple to enjoy a patrician dinner. A wonderful atmosphere inspired by traditional fine dining in a contemporary locale. The food is exceptional; everything is fresh and is a choice cut. The large proportions are quite filling and the selection is ample, even for the non-seafood lover. The plentiful choice of wines leaves you wanting more. The attentive service and care of the staff is fantastic, they go out of their way to make you content. When I want fine dining or just to impress my guests or date, Nick's is my definitive choice. Overall Rating: 5 Stars Pros: Amazing Food, Upscale Dining Cons: None

Went here for our anniversary last year. When I called for reservations, I was asked if we were celebrating anything. I said it was our anniversary and did not think more of that. When we arrived,we were greeted with"Happy Anniversary". Very nice touch, but when we got to our table, there were flowers on the table and a little card.Even better! The server was flawless and was very attentive without being intrusive. The food was every bit as good as I had heard and had a very impressive wine list-with half bottles of some great wines(nice for me as my husband was not in the mood for wine that night!!).When we were finished with our exquisite meal. we were surprised further by a beautiful, complimentary Key Lime Tart! This was one of the best meals we have had. I say if you want to splurge and want something besides steak-give Nick's a try!
(5)Michelle M.
Just went Saturday night for our 5 year anniversary mostly based on Patty's recommendation, but I always wanted to go there too! Our reservation was for 5:00 and we were the first ones there. Nice that it was empty but also a little weird. Waiters were very nice. On our table was a red balloon saying "We celebrated our anniversay at Nick's!" Saw another table with a blue one which must be for birthdays. Nice touch. (My almost 2 year old daughter loves the balloon which we brought home for her!) Appetizer - we had the calamari done grilled or broiled with tomatoes, touch of tabasco, and terrific sauce which was amazing with their warm bread. I had Dover Sole and my hubby had Lobster. Both were excellent. Yes it is very expensive but nice for a treat! I don't understand how they can charge $5 for valet parking with the lot being full of parking lots! Yes we could have tried to park in another lot but we pulled up and felt like we were stuck. But it was still very nice. Oh yes, dessert - Yes free Key Lime Pie with this cute Happy Anniversary written on a chocolate piece/sign. Very nice and would recommend if you want to spurgle on yourselves!

I attended this fine dining establishment with my honey on Valentines Day. It was just what I imagined a restaurant would be on Valentines day. We were given roses when we walked in the door. The food was wonderful and the ambiance was so beautiful and romantic. The servers were very nice. Definitely upscale. I will be going to this restaurant again for Valentines Day 2010 :)

Great restaurant! Old style service - very attentive. Everything comes with the silver dome on it, which I love. Wait staff very professional. I had the chopped salad and the Asian style Chilean Sea Bass and both were EXCELLENT. I had a lovely booth with a view of their beautiful salt water fish tank featuring a beautiful Scorpion Fish. Wine was excellent. Decor is dated
(5)Caroline A.
Seriously fantastic. So the decor is old school and the benches are pleather. However, it is pretty charming and elegant in it's own way. The servers all wear tuxes and are very attentive without going overboard. The manfriend and I were seated at a romantic little booth and had a fantastic dinner. The servers actually turn the light a little brighter while you are reading the menus and turn them back down after you've ordered. I liked that a lot. I started with the GTE Salad. It was goat cheese, fresh tomatoes and marinated artichoke served on a bed of baby arugula, drizzled with balsamic vinagrette. Manfriend had the Lobster Bisque and said it was exceptionally good. For the main course I had the Chilean Sea Bass. It was prepared with a teriyaki sauce and came with Asian slaw and mashed potatoes. It was PERFECT. I thought the potatoes were a little too creamy, but it was still very good. He had the Shrimp and Scallop pasta dish... he said it was very good and had a spicy kick to it. We skipped dessert because it was getting late and I was full, but the menu looked very good. Apparently, there are some very good restaurants in Rosemont according to the Manfriend. Who knew?
(4)Linda C.
Came here for a business dinner. 5 stars for the excellent quality seafood, dessert selection, and wine selection. The service was impeccable and knowledgeable. 3 stars for the restaurant decor. It has a nice steakhouse feel, but for the price you pay the decor should be upgraded so it doesn't feel like you are traveling back to 1980's. Hence the 4 star rating.
(4)Del S.
Was staying in the Sheraton O'Hare, and this place was recommended to us... Excellent all the way around. Started off with the Lobster Bisque... Deliciousness!!! Then had the Chilean Sea Bass... All I can say is the preparation was perfect, it just melted in my mouth... What meal would be complete without dessert? We closed out the meal with the Chocolate Molten Cake...heaven..absolute heaven... Nick's Fishmarket has a complete wine and cocktail menu... And I enjoyed something from both menus... Our team of servers were spot on and didn't miss a beat... Thanks for the great food and service!
(5)Dan S.
Came here with a big group and was impressed with the service and the food itself. Wine was being refilled generously and perhaps that is clouding my review a bit, but who cares. Had the bruschetta and then a salad for apps with a vegetable risotto as the main course. Good stuff. I'd definitely recommend this if you're going in a group. Others raved about the fish and you can understand why. Its not cheap but for the location, its a good fit.
(4)Jennifer S.
Stuffy, dated atmosphere, but good service and tasty food. My friend and I shared the iceberg wedge, which was delicious, both enjoyed the crab crusted tilapia and shared the molton chocolate cake to finish. I was thoroughly stuffed, but enjoyed everything I tasted...even the garlic rolls. Great place to grab dinner if you are staying near O'Hare.
(4)Sid B.
had the MIXED GRILL : Shrimp, scallops, tuna, mahi mahi. subbed the mash potatoes for the rice pilaf. 3 of 4 were Very good; ( the mahi was only ordinary) desert: tasty Key lime Pie service good; but stuffy, expensive for what you get - mostly business diners 3 1/2
(4)Dominic S.
The ambiance at Nick's is always great. The staff is very attentive to your needs. The Black & Blue appetizer is the best I've ever had. We ended up ordering a second Black & Blue
(5)Jake B.
We went here for happy hour. Sat in the bar and had some oysters and a couple drinks. Can't really comment on any other main course options. The service was good. The bartender was attentive and checked in on us often. The atmosphere is like a dark supper club. Something Frank Sinatra would have liked. I'd give a 3.5 if I could
(3)Connie L.
We came here for my dad's birthday and had a hard time locating the restaurant (it's hidden behind some hotels). There were only two or three other tables occupied the entire time we were present (we came on a Friday evening). I was freezing (bring a sweater). Everything on the menu is pricey...and for a reason. The waiters were very attentive and constantly changed out our used silverware and plates. Our water glasses were never empty and we received plenty of bread. We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer, which came with only 7 thin slices of tuna. I had the sea bass ($43) for dinner, which sat on a bed of mashed potatoes. It was cooked really well and I happily gobbled it up. For dessert, my family shared the apple tart, which the four of us couldn't even finish because it was not what we expected--it was really doughy and did not have enough apple flavor.
(3)Craig C.
It is really impossible to describe how terrible this restaurant is and I can only plead with you not to waste your money here. Out of date and out of touch this might have been considered good food in 1965. Expensive and pretentious the food here is across the board mediocre, which considering the pricing is nothing short of horrifying. Not one dish was prepared with proper attention or care as there are clearly no chefs in the back just cooks. Just plain bad, I would have been better off just eating the corporate food at my hotel. Avoid this at all costs.
(1)Steven W.
The food was decent. The prices were astronomically high. We had a table of 13 people. There was a larger party in the next room. We had reservations ahead of time so there should have been plenty of staff. The waiters gave all their attention to the larger group and none to us. I would never go back.
(2)Sandi E.
Service: attentive without being overly intrusive Food: Warm garlic butter rolls served as starter. Lobster bisque was rich and flavorful. Ordered calamari as main dish - lightly breaded and served with three sauces - cocktail, wasabi and sweet chili.
(4)Arletta C.
3.5 stars - My sister and I were celebrating our birthdays the evening that we attended Nick's Fishmarket. I will say overall the food and drinks were delicious. The lobster and shrimp risotto was yummy! From the 4 meals we ordered this was by far my favorite! The downside that left a bad taste for me personally is that the restaurant was nice enough to bring out two desserts to celebrate even though our husband's did not order or request it. But, then the restaurant charged us for it. I did not appreciate that we had to pay for two desserts that we did not order.
(3)Tom R.
Food was good, service was great, Expensive.
(3)Dan D.
Went there on a Saturday night and the place was dead - we were one of three couples. Bad sign to start. We ordered a $32 appetizer sampler and received the smallest two oysters I've ever seen and four other small bites a piece. We had to eat all the crackers to stave off the hunger. I had the mixed grill, which was tasty but nowhere near the $38 price tag. Bottom line: cool decor, dead restaurant, outrageously overpriced for such minuscule portions. Service was good, food was decent - nothing more. Very disappointed.
(2)Lloyd M.
Solid seafood restaurant in an interesting location. I had driven by Nick's well over a hundred times but went for the first time this week. The atmosphere and service is more like an upscale steak house (think Morton's or Ruth Chris) chain. The emphasis clearly on seafood with everything good but nothing particularly creative or staying in your head after you leave. I went with a friend and we started with black & blue seared ahi tuna. Tuna was very high quality, none of the fat/grizzle that sometimes ruins a dish like this. Also cooked perfectly, seared but still raw on the inside. Dipping sauce was a typical soy based sauce. I had the dover sole filleted at the table as my main course. This seems like the trendy new fish dish, have noticed it on multiple menus recently. The waiter did a perfect job filleting the fish but spooked me when he warned of bones in one section (there weren't any but was paranoid eating it). It had a nice butter sauce served on the side, which given that I ordered it prepared with the sauce, felt would have been better if served with the fish. Came with a bunch of fresh vegetables. The fish was quick good and light. We finished by sharing a white chocolate cheesecake that I felt was mediocre. It did not have that much flavor and was a little too dense for my tastes. Overall, thought the tuna and sole were excellent but nothing you could not get at other top place. A very good meal, though.
(4)Steven C.
Not a bad stop as far as work dinners go. Plus: - Alaskan Salmon special with fingerling and spinach beur blanc was solid - Big wine list - Service was good Negative: - They served a Pinot that was way beyond prime and sour. - Seems pricey and not inline with the value of the food/drink. They seem to cater to the corporate dinner and I could close my eyes and name of the dozen others that do the same.
(3)Otto A.
I just can't recommend this place. The decor is old and worn and the service is attentive yet mediocre, forgetting to fill drink orders and such. The decrepit fish tank with murky water and no fish should have been an indicator. The food itself was good, although several ordered blackened mahi and relieved about a 5-6 oz piece with mild seasoning and gravy over the top. Small portions and gravy for a premium price. The vegetable medley was over cooked. The place seems ready to shut down. Food quality decent yet won't return to this location, maybe downtown
(2)Sarah S.
They made my birthday very special.. great food, service, drinks, dessert and more a little hard to find, but worth the effort
(4)Mehran F.
One star if you consider the price and value. Else 2 stars for the expensive tab (over 150$ per person including drink). Man, that iceberg wedge salad is the worst I have ever had. The steak was hard like hell (but cooked right as requested close to rare) The berries for desert, so low quality. Garbage in, Garbage out if i'm lucky.

So much for the "Name Your Own Price" savings that Priceline afforded me on my room - i easily made up the difference eating at Nick's. It was raining as i crossed the courtyard that separated my hotel from Nick's. So i hurried, coat pulled up over my hair. The long, red, awning-style entry was a welcome sight to my wet body and tired eyes. That is, until i entered what really felt like a cigarette smoke filled chamber. I got over that, and went in and ordered a cocktail while i waited for my business associate to meet me. A simple martini, with well vodka. I enjoyed a nice chat with the greeter-gal while i sipped and waited. I opened the folio to my one-drink bill while the friendly hostess sat another late night dining party. Eighteen e-ffin' bucks for the one drink! After nearly choking up a lung, i signed my slip, included a tip, and returned to my glass to lick out the remaining drops of booze. My friend arrived. Long story short. I had the Tilapia; he had the Sea Bass. Both of us had generous sized servings. I had one glass of wine. He had one cocktail. I had a salad; he had a cup of soup. Told the waiter to split the bill. after tip, $70 each. I'm sorry. It was just simply way too much money for a good, but not knock-your-socks-off meal. The environment was basically "wanna-be classy." But how classy can a place be in the bottom of a business park office building? The wine display was initially interesting, but it had a bunch of visible boxes laying around, and hardly any wine bottles. Service was slow. Not "classy-slow," but slow. Again. Nothing bad about the food. Huge portions. Fresh fish. good recipe. Just not something i'll be raving about. I exited and saw a Harry Caray's next door. I decided Nick's couldn't get more than a 2 star when i regretted not eating at Harry Caray's. Too much money for good but not great food. and the $18 well drink still tick's me off.

Went a on Saturday night with a group of six. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. The crab cakes was very good. The shrimp cocktail was delicious. The Chilean Sea Bass was tasty. The crab legs were excellent. I went to Nick's Fish Market for seafood, not steak. There seafood is excellent. The desert are well proportioned and fulfilling.

Four people, two got mild case of food poisoning; we had different entrees.

So- we are members of the "points" club for this place and their sister restaurant, the Clubhouse in Oak Brook. Every year, you get a $50 certificate towards a meal at either place and so, this year we decided to give this place a try since we missed-out on the downtown locale before it closed. Totally enjoyed the meal! We were seated in the bar area booths and our waiter, Nicholas, was also serving as the bartender for the whole place, which made us wonder if we would be ignored. Nope. We got there around 6:30 and were out around 8:00 - Nicholas didn't rush us, but we also weren't kept waiting for food. He explained the specials and had very good recommendations. We had the Nick's Salad and Nevada Nick's salad - both good, but dressing a little heavy on the onion. Rolls are also coated in some garlic butter. I had the King Crab legs (no cracking necessary - all taken care of for you) but was surprised these came with mashed (garlic again) potatoes instead of rice and the husband was tempted with the Dry-Aged New York Strip. We each had two drinks and I ended with coffee and all this, before the discount was still only $165. Plus - who knew that Saturdays were double point days so I got a good head start on the next certificate. Minus the heavy garlic/onion and the ridiculous parking situation (typical of Rosemont) this would be a 5 star, but we will definitely come back for Nick's excellent tableside manner and yummy food!
(4)A S.
Superb service, excellent food. Can recommend the seared tuna as an appetizer and filet mignon or chilean sea bass as a main. Not cheap at around $90 pp but well worth the price. Complimentary key lime pie for my wife's birthday was a lovely touch. We had an overnight stay at the "aloft" and the hotelshuttle dropped us off and picked us up from the location.

Valentine's Day Massacre happened here this year. Overbooked overbooked overbooked! 1 hour after reservation time and no table in sight. They were not seating by time nor when people got there. I saw 10 couples seated before us that came in after us and had later reservation times. We wanted our first night out after the birth of our first child to be special. Thank you, Nick's Fishmarket, for ruining our evening. And thank you to your worthless manager who could do nothing to help nor even offered anything. I wouldn't give a dollar of my money to this restaurant. And it's really sad since I'm a Really Nice Restaurants club member that dines at their establishments frequently. Never again!

This place is absurdly tacky. I went on Valentine's evening. My entrée was the Cedar Plank Salmon. It was bland, my asparagus were mushy and overcooked. I sat through the horrible service-our reservations were for 915p we were seated at 950p. Our drinks were decent, we saw our waiter twice.. He summons the hostess by saying ''hey girl", the hostess must've gotten behind the bar at some point because she loudly cackled and spoke of earlier experiences with patrons in a condescending and mimicking manner to her coworker. I'd had enough-I called for the manger who apologized humbly and offered to remove my entree from my check (he also agreed my meal looked pathetic) once my check came I immediately walked my check to the bar and promptly paid the bill to the bartender. This place is horrible! I'm shocked they are able to charge these sort of prices and get away with it. The best thing about this place was it was close to home.

I had the lobster bisque, the chilean sea bass, and the key lime pie for dessert (complimentary because it was my birthday!) - all delicious. The wait staff was incredibly courteous and attentive. I only wish I could afford to dine here more often!

We had a great dining experience here! Yes it is on the pricey side but we knew that going in. The service was excellent, very friendly, personable and knowledgeable. I had the mixed grill, LOVED the sauce it came with and the fish was delicious. My husband had the mahi-mahi on special, and he enjoyed it very much. We will go back on special occasions for sure!

I'm bothering to write this review for one reason and one reason only: abalone. I was shocked when I found this reasonably rare menu item (California farm-raised abalone) at this tiny hotel restaurant. I've been obsessed with abalone ever since balking at it once during a visit to California. (I naively expected to find it on EVERY menu in California thereafter, but never found it again.) This time around, I had no hesitation: Prepare Thee Thy Oversized Mollusk!!! So, what does abalone taste like? Chicken. Seriously, it tastes like chicken. (More accurately, it tastes closer to veal.) It's mild and tender without a hint of seafood taste. Actually, it's kinda bland. Like Chicken McNuggets of the Sea. I firmly believe that if sea otters could operate SUVs with their furry, crittery paws, they would gladly abandon their beds of kelp and wild abalone in exchange for drive-thru fried chicken. Overall, the abalone wasn't that great, especially for $56 (!!!). It's seafood for rich people who hate seafood. But, I guess it was worth it for the novelty of the experience. I can now add abalone to the long list of Things I've Put In My Mouth. As for the rest of Nick's Fishmarket, I couldn't really give a shit. It was stiff and strangely formal.. and outrageously overpriced. Lots of squat, tuxedo-wearing servers with aggressive moustaches. It smacked of Jordan-era 1980's Chicago suburban non-elegance. The menu looked totally unappetizing, with lots of seafood species in heavy, creamy pasta sauces. It's a restaurant that only exists to rape business travelers who are too lazy to explore anything beyond 10 feet from their hotel entrance, and for people whom God has sentenced to spend eternity in Rosemont, IL for undisclosed reasons.

My new manager and I took a client there two weeks ago for my first visit to the Rosemont location. Food was delicious, service was fantastic and the atmosphere is that of an old-school joint. We started with their assortment of oysters and lightly fried calamari while cocktailing. Kind of dorky but we all could not resist going with the Dover sole which is de-boned table side. Not very creative or adventurous.... I know, but we all agreed we would do it again because it is simply that delicious. We chased the sole down with a couple bottles of Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay. Simple, delicious and old school. I also agree with others, the decor is just a bit off but at the same time lends itself to this old-school joint and their overall M-O.

Food and ambiance was great! Met some business associates for dinner and the setting was perfect for that as well as coming in for a quiet romantic evening would work, too. The sashimi grade tuna was as good as I have had anywhere. On the high end as prices go which is par for the course in other nearby upscale places.

Ordered for take out at Nick's Fishmarket so I did not get to experience the full service and experience there. I called in to order the Grilled Chicken and Lobster salad (which sounded amazing) but they no longer have that on their menu. Bummer. I eventually settled on the Mixed Grill Seafood dish with saffron rice. It only took 25 minutes to wait for my food. The Mixed Grill was overall very good, however not enough food for the $$$ ($36) price tag. There were two scallops, two shrimps, one salmon, and another fried fish that I could not identify that was too fatty for me. They didn't provide any bread or utensils at first so I had to ask for the utensils. I took a look around the restaurant while waiting and it does definitely seem like a fancy upscale dining restaurant. There were groups ranging from business dinners to romantic dinners for two.

My boyfriend and I went to Nick's last night for Valentine's Day and ordered the special Valentine's Prix Fixe menu, and while the food was very good, the service was by far the worst I've experience in any restaurant, let along "fine dining." Our reservation was at 8:30, and we were seated immediately (which isn't a surprise since there were only about six or seven other parties in the restaurant) and given menues. But once we were seated, nothing happened for about 20 minutes. We were not welcomed nor introduced to our waiter, and no one even thought to bring us a wine list. After about 20 minutes, the waiter finally came over and said gruffly, "Are you ready?" We asked for a wine list, and he said "sure, sure" (no apology) and disappeared for another 10 minutes. When he came back, we were smart enough to put in our food and drink order. That was the last we saw our waiter until the end of the meal. The appetizer and soup courses came out fairly quickly. We had the steamed mussels, which were excellent, and the lobster bisque, which my boyfriend claims is the best he's ever eaten. So we were fairly happy. But then we waited. And waited. And waited... At 10:00pm, our entrees finally came out of the kitchen (mind you, after several dirty looks and questioning glances toward the wait staff). I ordered the peppercorn crusted ahi tuna with risotto, and my boyfriend had the filet mignon. The food tasted good, but since we had already waited nearly 30 minutes since our soup, we had digested our food and were pretty full. Also, it was clear that the food had been sitting in the kitchen waiting to go out, because my boyfriend's rare filet was now a solid medium-rare, and for someone who eats his meat near raw, this is not a good thing. After about 5 minutes, we just asked the waiter to wrap up the food to go and give us our dessert and check. The key lime tart was very sweet and did not taste like lime at all, and even though we expressly asked for the check, the waiter did not bring it for another 15 minutes. He never once apologized, or even bothered to check on us in the 2 and half hours we were at the restaurant. We will never be going back to Nick's Fishmarket, and it's too bad, because the lobster bisque really was very good. And I can understand slow service when a restaurant is crowded, but the restaurant was empty. There were maybe half a dozen tables filled. There is no excuse for treating diners this way, especially on a special night like Valentine's Day.

I took my mother here on Mother's Day and it was perfect. From the food down to the customer service. It was the best I've experienced thus far.

This place is pretty pricey, but it is sooo worth it! My girlfriend and I went for Valentine's Day and they gave each of us a rose. The service is wonderful. Our waiter checked on us frequently to make sure we had whatever we needed and answered any questions we had. The food was delectable! Everything we ordered tasted fresh and we enjoyed our appetizers, entrees and desserts! I gotta go back soon!

I struggled on whether or not I should give this 4 or 5 stars. It is an extremely overpriced restaurant and I wasn't sure if the food/service was worth their crazy prices. Ultimately, I am choosing the 5 stars because of their patience and service last night. Back in October, I went here for my birthday dinner with my parents. I had gone specifically so that I could order their abalone dish because I had heard so much about it from some former coworkers. I was pretty devastated to know that they didn't have any more that day!!! So I ordered the mixed grill, a plate with saffron rice and a seafood medley. I wasn't disappointed in that choice. It was delicious. As was the wine we ordered (not sure which one). Our waiter that evening was very attentive and comp-ed my birthday dessert, which was kind of a drop in the bucket for how much we were planning on spending, but still considerate. Last night, I got to go to Nick's again for a company dinner. I was super excited because the waiter said they had abalone when I arrived. Then...he told me it wasn't part of what our company had picked for the pre-selected menu. Well, not to be discouraged, I spoke to the maitre d' and asked for him to bring me the abalone meal ($54) at the end of our evening and I would pay for it myself. Although it was an unusual request, he obliged and I walked out of the restaurant (after a delicious filet mignon cooked just right) with my lunch for the next day. OK now that I've gone to the gym for a hardcore workout and stuffed my face with abalone, someone is going to need to roll me out of work! But let me just say that I ate EVERY SINGLE BITE of that meal. I wasn't exactly hungry the entire time. But for $60, it would have been immoral not to finish it! And it was delicious, as were the side dishes of mashed potatoes and shrimp/calamari/asparagus in a cream sauce. I probably shouldn't eat for the rest of the day but I'm glad I got to enjoy the abalone, especially since it's the last time I'll go to Nick's in a very long time!!! My wallet needs a chance to recover.

I dined here Thursday night after about 3-4 yrs so I decided to try it again, only reason being is that it offered 1000 pts on opentable (which is a red flag for any restaurant, I think). The place was how I remembered it, dark, clubby, with lots of wood, an exposed wine cellar, aquariums, and booths against the walls. I sat at the bar waiting for my other guests and was attentively served by the bartender, oh and the hostess was very friendly as well. When my guest arrived we were seated at a comfy booth and proceeded to order some apps: crab cakes and oysters Rockefeller. Crab cakes were good---flavorful, chunks of moist crabmeat. The Rockefeller however was horrific and we actually sent them back which I rarely rarely do. The oysters tasted old and were topped with something that resembled cheese whiz and had way too much freezer burnt spinach---disgusting. It was so bad we were hesitant to go on with our meal but decided to roll the dice and stay put. My guest had the scallop and lobster tail risotto. The lobster was presented table side as the waiter separated the meat from the tail and placed onto the risotto---nice touch. The risotto was tasty indeed. I had the very popular Chilean sea bass. It too was delicious. So why the 3 stars you ask? For the cost of the meal and for the horrific oysters I honestly couldn't give 5 stars. Would I come back? Maybe in another 3-4 yrs but this time someone else will be paying!

It is a high-end restaurant with excellent service. I ordered lobster and my colleague ordered abalone. My lobster tastes ok but her abalone looks yummy. And it is very pricey.

My wife and I arrived on Valentines Day hoping for a special dinner. Maybe my sights were set too high or maybe I'm just plain unrealistic, but here is my story and the reasons I will never go to Nick's again. We were seated in a half-round booth by the wall near the fish tank. We were approached by a nice young man who seemed to be looking to see if we wanted drinks. We ordered two glasses of wine. It took a while, but the wine finally arrived. During the wait, we figured out that there did not seem to be any fish in the fish tank (OK - we finally saw one). We waited ... and waited ... and waited for our waiter. Frankly, as we had never seen the same wait person more than once, we did not know who actually was responsible for our service. We finally got someone's attention and ordered our dinner. In addition to a salad and soup, I ordered the "prime" steak (at the suggestion of the waiter) and my wife chose the Sea Bass. The appetizers arrived and the bisque was pretty good - the salad was just OK. After waiting what seemed like an eternity, our food arrived. Without ruining the suspense, the soup was the best part of the meal. On a number of occasions, the wait staff had made promises to bring us various items (napkins, silverware, water refills, etc.) but seemed to have forgotten about us. Back to the food, maybe the steak was overcooked, but I had my doubts about its provenance. The fish - nice preparation, but it tasted a bit "fishy" and was a bit dry. Although we had invested substantially longer in the restaurant that we had wanted, we were "pot committed" and decided to order the dessert - - once we found a waiter. At this point, we figured that we had little to lose/risk, so I inquired as to who actually was our waiter (having not really had a consistent wait person) and found out that they do some sort of team concept which really means that no one has any responsibility for our care. Oh, and dessert sucked... Rosemont Location All in all, service was 1 out of 10 Appetizers: 3/10 Main course 2/10 Dessert 2/10 Go to Nick's at your own risk. May I suggest any other seafood restaurant...

One of the best meals I've ever had. The lobster bisque was excellent. I had the lobster risotto which was amazing. Came with a full lobster tail. We also ordered the Chilean sea bass and the blue crab crusted tilapia. Everyone loved what they ordered. It was fairly expensive but if you're looking for a really good meal and you want to walk out stuffed and satisfied this is the place! We also ordered coffee and key lime pie to share and there was not a morsel left. Amazing.

Good LORD!!! $250 for two fish dinners, two salads and a bottle of champagne??? C'mon. Now, I will admit that the bubbly was $96, but for the rest, with a LONG wait in between courses with an empty restaurant at 6p on a Thursday was a bit surprising. To the food... the salad I had was the Maui Waui... decent, not fabulous for $12. I had the tilapia, which was good, not great. Reasonably generous portions. However, we did wait about 30 minutes between the salad and the main course. The restaurant is a bit "old school" with dark wood and a cheesy glass etching. I think it could do well to have a bit of an update. Not overly impressed for my dining dollar here.

Wife and I went to Nick's for a late Valentines celebration, and overall we were very pleased. From the time we walked in, to the end of our meal, the service was professional and very courteous. As for the food, wife ordered the Lobster Risotto and I ordered the dry-aged Strip Steak. I know, I know, a seafood place and I order a steak...but hey, I'm glad I did because it was cooked perfectly to the medium I requested, tasty with a wine reduction sauce, which also came with a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables. My entree was good as well, creamy and with a huge lobster tail in the middle. For desert, we had the chocolate cake which had a soft, gooey chocolate middle! Everything was wonderful. Overall, good food, good service, okay prices.

Sorry Nick, You just didn't float my boat. Went here last night with my buddy from work. We'll call him Jimmy for now. The place has a "Mad Men" era feel to it. That part I thought was cool. What wasn't so cool was how "rich" everything was. I know some people are into heavy sauces, creams, and all that. More power to them and they will most certainly be the source of Nick's five star ratings. For me, when I think seafood, I think good, healthy, eating. When they pile on the sauces it tends to negate the health benefit--plus to me those heavy sauces just don't sit well at all. Hey--I came to taste the fish! We started with drinks. I had an 11.2 ounce bottle of Stella. At $10, pricey, but if everything else is going right I can handle that. Then Jimmy and I split an order of Oysters Rockefeller. If "size matters" then you will like this. Six fairly humungous stuffed oyster shells appeared fairly quickly. But what's this? A big ol' glop of melted cheese on top of each one? Yech. I scraped the cheese off but still the spinach and everything else that was in there was just drenched in a rich base of some sort. (Guys--see if you can snag Kincaid's of Phoenix's Oyster Rocky recipe. Those are killer) I also ordered the lobster bisque soup and quickly sent that back. Again, this stuff was almost thick enough to walk on and when I did manage to penetrate, there was one little piece of lobster, feeling very lonely, at the bottom. Jimmy had an entree of king salmon stuffed with crab, or so the waiter described it when he announced the specials. What he didn't mention was that the glorious crab meat on the inside of that salmon had been again, drenched with melted cheese, yielding it inedible by Jimmy. I tried it and felt the same. Glorious crab! Gotta ask--why? Jimmy's salmon also had some sort of sauce all over it. Enough with the sauces, already!. But alas, there was more sauce. I had ordered the mixed grill, blackened. At Nick's a mixed grill means a decent sized serving with two chunks of fish (not sure what kind), two shrimp, and two scallops. Would have been perfect! Except, again with the sauce. Drenched it, and although I did my best to eat around all the richness of the evening, I'm sure I took in a good 1500 unnecessary calories, not to mention, here I am the next day, writing this on an airplane on the way home to San Fran (we know our fish in SF!) and I still feel as if I've been slimed. The place is huge, with three or four dining rooms and aquariums built into the walls. It was also almost empty, though we were there fairly late on a Monday night. The lights were dim and I don't think anything in the endless stream of nondescript piano jazz actually had a title. I even noticed a telephone jack in the side of one of the booths--I suspect a throwback to the pre-mobile phone era when the waiter would bring the phone to your table for that important phone call. Ambiance? pretty good. Service? good. (though I'm not into being upsold at almost very interaction), but the food, while the cat's meow for some, simply did not do it for me--and all because of the cheese and sauces. Instead it was more like a crash course in how to ruin a perfectly good fish. All in, one starter, four drinks, two entrees dinged us for $170. Nick, I will not be back but no worries--you have lots of other great reviews!

This was my first stop in the Rosemont area that made it difficult for all the other places to follow because the service was that good here. Of the two chains that I have been too under the "ReallyNiceRestaurants" Group, the Clubhouse and now Nick's I would have to say I was impressed by both. Atmosphere - Dark, it was hard to see in this place, but it was still elegant inside. Service - Great!! The staff pulled out the chair to sit you, they cleaned off the table constantly, they filled my glass repeatedly and were just overall amazing! Top notch. Food - I had the GTA Salad, which was basic and good. For the main dish I order the Chilean Sea Bass, which came in as sweet soy sake sauce with a side of mashed potatoes and Asian slaw. This was all presented nicely and tasted great. It was sweet, but not sugary, which was nice. Actually, I ate it so fast I do not think I tasted much...ha. Overall - I will definitely go here again. It was pricey but definitely worth it, even if you have to cut back a little bit in the week to balance out the cost. Nick's has caught me with their excellent service!!!

Nick's was a place where I took my wife and the princesses on special occassions for more than 20 years, both Downtown (New Years Eve) and Rosemont (Valentine's Day). Downtown has been gone for several years.(pity) Tonight's experience at Rosemont was far less than in the past. My wife thought the Mahi with lemon caper sauce was great. The daughters, who are not big fish eaters said the Chilean sea bass was very good and the filet was good (but not as good as mine on the Weber). My concerns are first, they did away with formerly complementary roses and heart shaped balloons which made Valentine's Day special - and the attitude of the single waitress who manned the place. (She should have been all that was needed because the place was pretty empty). But I was really disappointed because the 10 oz. broiled lobster I was looking forward to had been subbed for by 2 x 6 oz. (allegdelly). (There is no comparision to the the texture and fllavor) When I asked our indifferent waitress about this she replied "they are cheaper and the 10 oz tail would have cost them over $100.00. (They still charged $65.00 for his entree) I'm not sorry to mention this is BS and I didn't appreciate her attitude.
