As a Mexican, I can tell you that these are pretty good tacos! As the only Mexican joint nearby...why go to the near by opened Taco Bell that is loaded with sodium and nowhere near as good (I am guessing everyone by now knows absolutely nothing in Taco Bell is real Mexican food).. If a place has awesome tasting salsas...they truly know their food..and Cilantro's salsa's rock!! Yes it can get pretty crowded but that is only testament to the fact that it is Taco heaven.. The only reason it didn't get five stars was because one time I did witness a cook do something that wouldn't be considered "kitchen etiquette" (using the same knife to cut meat and veggies) but I would like to think this was an isolated incident as the other times I have been back..I have not seen anything like this happen again.... Their rice water and hibiscus water are also pretty good without being super tart and overly sweet.

Great tacos cute little place hidden. (On the strip mall) Steak tacos are pretty darn good. Especially for that area.

Found this restaurant on Yelp while in town for a convention. This is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had, and I've been to Mexico. I definitely recommend them, and I'll definitely be back.

I tried the steak burrito, it was kind of on the small side as far as I'm concerned. It's really loaded with a lot of lettuce and very little meat. The meat that was in the burrito was good but just not enough of it. I don't think I'll be going back. The interior of the restaurant was clean and freshly painted.

My dad had a 2 hour layover at O'Hare and since I live in Chicago, called me up for a quick bite to eat. Cilantro is really close to the airport, less than a 10 minute drive, and had a very solid 4 stars on Yelp so we headed over. I really enjoy Mexican food and my dad ADORES it. The first thing I noticed when walking into cilantro was the in your face, bright enough to send your mind reeling lime green paint. Intense to say the least. I ordered beef tacos and my dad had chicken tacos. The food is prepared right before you and the kitchen is clean. We also ordered some churros for dessert. The tacos came out and they were very enjoyable, the meat was seasoned expertly and the veggies were crisp. They lacked a little bit in heat but Cilantro's hot sauce has some fire to it. The rice was ok, it could have used a little more salt and beans definitely could have used more salt. The food comes out on generally unappetizing looking plates that I last saw at my high school cafeteria oh so many years ago. You know the oval cream colored, would survive a nuclear holocaust, types. After dinner we ate our churros and mine was stuffed with some kind of red jelly (I think strawberry? Maybe cherry? its pretty hard to tell.) The churro itself was solid, it probably would have been better hot but the filling really ruined it. I ended up scraping as much of it out as I could. My dad had a plain churro and he said it was ok, the ones at Costco are definitely better. Yikes. If a Mexican place can't make a churro better than Costco we've got a major issue. All in all it wasn't a bad meal, actually it was relatively good but I can't see myself ever coming back. It's really close to O'Hare so there's that.

Ok place to grab lunch in the burbs since it's near my work. Otherwise, not worth a separate trip. The horchata was watery and way too sweet. The sauces were pretty good (I like the creamy green one!) but the tacos were just average. Good but nothing mind blowing. Small seating area.

My boss (who is Mexican) recommended this place. I was in the area and grabbed some lunch. Split the carnita burrito. I have to say that with no sauce or anything extra this burrito was very tasty and enjoyable. The prices are under $10, so I will definitely be back for more. I find it interesting that this place just opened and they will be opening a taco bell next to it shortly.

Good street style tacos - solid tacos at fair price. I had the al pastor and chicken with a horchata beverage I recommend this because there are not many other choices in the area. The salsas were good. Very basic seating and dining area made for those on the go.

We work across the street from Cilantro and I couldn't be happier that it's so close! The food is reasonably priced and it's delicious! I always get the taco dinner (3 tacos, rice, beans) and a side of chips & salsa. I love the pastor and asada tacos so I double up on whichever I'm feeling like having more of that day for my 3rd taco. The salsa has such a smoky flavor to it and it has a great spicy kick to it! My only advice is to call and order ahead - they get pretty swamped (because it's so dang good), so the order might take some time. So happy to have such good food so close to the office!

They messed up my order at first but it was no big deal they fixed the order and the steak tacos were very good along with the jalapeño sause very good experience

Food is fresh and good. Owners are nice. Portions are very controlled there. Prices are a bit high. $30 for 2 for lunch. Overall if you want FAST fresh Mexican food this is a great place to come. Pork tacos are my favorite!

I've come here often and why it is I'm shocked after a 20 minute wait time, hearing a number called after mine and then having it prepared only after I said something, well it must be my issue right? That would be Phoenix Yelp logic. ;) Anyway, I'm not coming back for a while.

CILANTRO DINNER, TACO DINNER & BURRITO! DECOR: It's a small restaurant with a very plain decor, it's clean too. The restaurant can barely accommodate 20 people. FOOD: We ordered the Cilantro dinner, taco dinner and burrito. We were 4 adults and the portions served were sufficient for us. I found the food a bit bland but may be that's what authentic Mexican food tastes like. I only like the chicken quesadillas that come in the cilantro dinner. SERVICE: There are just two guys at the counter who manage everything and they really manage it very well. They both are humble and polite and try their best to make your food as quickly as possible. The wait is a bit longer especially during peak hours and worse if you don't get a place to sit. Our food was ready within 30 minutes from the time ordered and thankfully we got a place to sit at the same time. PRICE: Reasonable!

I grew up in Chicago and thought I had tasted great Mexican food but on this trip back home to visit with my family my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place. OMG! It's super fresh. It's not greasy at all. This is my new favorite place. Whenever I come home to Chicago to visit I will definitely make he drove from the city out here to get food!!!!

  • John B.

Very pleased with this place. Next to the airport which is convenient since the food was quick and tasty and I had time to spare before my flight. Staff was friendly and helpful. Id go there again for Mexican food...try their horchata drink, thirst quencher for the hot humid Chicago days...

I'd say 3.5 stars. I have had this on my list for awhile now just haven't had a chance to try it. I REALLY wanted to like it, unfortunately it was just so so. Had the taco dinner and chips and Salsa. Very skimpy on the meat. Everything was diced very finely including the meat, cilantro and onion. I didn't really care for that, as a carnivore I prefer my meat a little chunky. Hahaha. The taste was just ok, nothing really to speak of kind of bland. Chips again just ok, definitely bought not made. Good vibe, nice seating, it took a little longer than normal, price is pretty standard. I left feeling satisfied but not overly impressed. I'd go again but not out of my way nor would I wait in line.

I really like this place! It is small but bright and clean. The food is delicious. I usually get the Cilantro (combo) dinner since I can't decide on one thing. The Avocado Salsa is good, I even bought a bottle to take home. Everything was reasonably priced, fresh, and not greasy.

Great local feel, packed at lunch 20 min wait for 2 tacos. Taco are really good. Disorganized ordering, but we re here for the food. Would I return for the food yes, but bring patients.

I dropped in about 130p on. Tuesday and it was busy, but not packed. I only waited about 10 minutes total. Everyone was very nice and efficient. Ordered the pastor burrito and chips and salsa. Burrito was amazing! Chips were standard thick grocery type. Not my favorite. Salsa had nice flavor, but I prefer a little more heat. I tried all three sauces and the green creamy was my fave, with just enough heat to add to the flavor of the burrito.

We came here hungry after a day of shopping at the nearby outlets. Yum! It definitely hit the spot. When we got there an hour before closing, they had been cleaning so it smelled like disinfectant, but at least we knew it was clean! We decided on the al pastor burrito (5.75) and a taco dinner, which comes with rice and beans, to share. After taking a bite of the burrito, I did not want to share at all! It was stuffed with deliciousness, like fresh guacamole, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, and a generous portion of meat. Delicious! The tacos were good too, but just could not compare with the burrito. They also give complimentary pickled veggies for the table to share. This will be our go to restaurant anytime we're in Rosemont. Get a burrito!

Our company just moved to Rosemont from Lakeview and I am so happy I found this gem of a Mexican restaurant. Being Mexican, I eat authentic Mexican food very frequently. I always try to avoid chains bc I often find the authenticity is compromised at larger upscale Mexican chain restaurant, very rarely have I ever gone to a chain and left with a home cooked meal feeling. This place is very authentic and you will know it by the number of Mexicans dining here on a Saturday and Sunday!

I decided to walk over here from Westin O'hare after a long day of work and it was definitely worth the walk! Customer Service: The owner knew I was new in town and was so hospitable where she took the time to walk through what their menu included and even let me try samples of their three freaking amazing drinks they make from scratch! One was a milk pudding base, the other had a vinegar base (good for your metabolism, digestion and overall health) and another one that looked great as well. Tacos!: I decided to choose the taco dinner combo that included any three tacos of your choosing. What really stood out was the Cesina (thin salted steak) that I never had before! Da BoMB! The asada (steak) and pastor(pork) on tortas weren't too shabby either. Dessert: Wow!, talk about them churros! The cream filling one is definitely better in taste than the strawberry one. And yes, I got a little carried away and had to eat two!

Small family owned place who were VERY nice but sadly I just did not care for the food. I expected more considering they have almost a perfect yelp rating. We got chips and guacamole, two cans of soda, and two taco dinners consisting of three tacos each with rice and beans for about $25. The guacamole was fine, a little too creamy for my taste. When I make it at home I leave large chunks of avocado unmashed. The chips were cold and a little on the stale side. As far as the tacos, the meat freaked me out. I ordered pastor which is usually shredded pork with cilantro and onions. At first I thought they got it wrong because the meat looked like beef. My husband verified it was pork but it tasted funny to me so I stopped after one taco. He got chicken and let me trade plates. One bite in I got gristle and lost my appetite. I'm a little funny about meat anyhow. The beans were good and the rice was strange. It had chunks of corn, peas, and green beans in it which I had never seen before. I doused the tacos I did eat in hot sauce and still couldn't pick up much heat. They have churros near the register but they looked like they had been sitting there all day and I'm glad we didn't take the chance. Disappointing, I hoped for so much more from here.

Delicious food! I ordered the steak taco dinner and was completely satisfied. My buddy ordered the steak burrito dinner and loved it as well. The amount of food served was perfect. The type of full that you feel good about after eating! Service was excellent. Great vibes all around and I am definitely coming back!

Best Mexican food in the area. Wait is a little long for food at times but worth it. I've tried the steak torts and tacos, and the cecina and pastor tacos. All good!

Nothing special about this Taco joint. I had the torta asada dinner and chips and salsa. The asada was good but nothing super special. Just run of the meal in my book. Beans and rice were typical Mexican style. I got excited when I style they had several different types of salsa as I love salsa! Sadly, none of them were very flavorful and all were a little too salty for my tastes.

This place is a gem! Traditional taco joint with a full menu of fare to pick from. A great variety of meats and the staff is very friendly. The flavors are out of this world! Tacos are made with soft corn tortillas, your choice of meats and onions and cilantro. As well as whatever else you want to put on them. I would highly recommend coming to Cilantro and checking them out if you are in the area. Even if you are not, it's worth the trip. I will be back.

For a small taco joint, this place is perfect. 1. It is clean and inviting. Too many taco joints are shady. This one is not shady at all. 2. Staff is friendly. I like it when I get a warning that the salsa I'm about to use might be a little hot! 3. You could see regular customers streaming in. They were friendly with the staff and were back for more! That made me feel comfortable. 4. Each table has a container of spicy pickled carrots, cauliflower and jalepenos that taste wonderful! 5. The food is excellent. I had two tacos and a side of beans -- they were top notch for this type of taqueria. I used to be a regular of another joint/chain nearby, but I think I've found a way better replacement.

By far my favorite Mexican restaurant! The meat is very tender and fresh, they make their own guacamole when you order, the horchata is delicious, and they have churros! I love their mild green sauce as well. Only down side is that hey do not have pico de gallo, and don't give free chips and salsa like most other places.

Great place. The steak burrito is awesome. They also offer tripe and tongue, I know not something Americans eat, but for Latinos and eastern Europeans this is great. Also I strongly suggest try their HOT AVOCADO SAUCE. Good service and reasonably priced.

I wanted to try this place since I work near by. The tacos were okay but i ended up paying over 5 dollars for two tacos because certain toppings don't come on the taco. Any place that has tacos that I have been to had those toppings. I will definitely stick to Marias restaurant that is nearby. I would not go to this place again.

It was great! Came at the height of the lunch hour and was still excellent service. We were first timers, which I guess seemed obvious to a young guy behind the counter who was SO kind as he told us all about his favorites, we ended up ordering his suggestion (burrito plate with rice and beans, I got steak, boyfriend got al pastor plus one taco). The wait admittedly was kind of long when things like Chipotle, Taco Bell, and TBK exist but it was worth the wait. Anyway as we were finding a seat the young man from before came up to us to tell us about their different hot sauces to add to our food to maximize our eating pleasure...how nice! So we got our food and ate it and it was AMAZING. The meat was fresh and not greasy and actual chopped up steak, avocado is being cut right before my eyes by the chef and is delicious (included in the price of every burrito) and the rice is amaaaazzzzing (wish there was more). The beans weren't so great and pretty obviously from a can and low quality but besides that, perfect meal. The same guy as earlier asked how our experience was and he really made it a lovely time, making sure we were taken care of, it was great. They also have a nice big water dispenser with iced water for guests, that was a perk. Will be back!

Overall, a good experience. I came here with some co-workers for lunch. The food was delicious. I ordered a chicken burrito and got a huge amount of food for just a little over $6. We ordered some guacamole and salsa for the table too. The guacamole is great and tasted beyond fresh. The salsa is tasty, but it's a little smokier than I expected. The only reason I knocked off stars was because of the wait time. The line to order wasn't too long, but it took a while to even order and pay. Then, the wait continued as we waited for our food. Especially for the lunch crowd, I thought they were a little disorganized and definitely overwhelmed at the lunch rush. I was also disappointed to see the seating area was limited. Luckily, we got the last 4 person table, but the eating area itself is rather cramped. Oh, and I was bummed to see there weren't any lunch specials. It would have been nice to see a combo of some sort on the menu. We will be back, as the food is worth it, but I'm sure we will call ahead with our orders the next time around. And maybe we'll do take out only.

My wife and I both ordered the steak taco dinner. The tacos were good and it came wth your average refried bean and rice. Each table had a tub of carrots, cauliflower, and onions that were marinated in vinegar. they were very good. The guacamole we ordered was very flavorful and fresh. The restaurant was very clean! Pretty good place for your basic Mexican food.

It was alright. Tacos were pretty good, tamales were dry. salsa was salty and we had to pay for it, most places offer it complimentary. There are definitely better spots. Probably won't go back, nothing stood out. Disappointing for a spot that landed decent ratings.

So glad I found this place! Fresh fresh fresh!! Made to order and high quality ingredients! The asada (steak) was perfect flavor and melted in my mouth. My husband ordered the chicken and steak tacos and said meats were very tender and juicy. Only thing I wouldn't order again was the rice, but it was still high quality just not my taste. It's an open kitchen and it was immaculate. Definitely try the horchata-it was creamy and delicious. It's as fast as real Mexican food should be. Little casual place in a strip mall but you won't miss it with its bright green walls.

There aren't many taco and burrito options in the Rosemont area, so this is a nice addition. I've been several times now and have honed in on my favorite: chicken burrito with cilantro. I love that they grill the burrito after it's rolled. The flavor of the tortilla really pops. The employees are friendly, the prices are fair, and the food is delicious. The three sauces to choose from, plus giardiniera, make each bite unique and are so flavorful. This place is becoming a weekly treat for us.

Small place in Rosemont. I called my order ahead of time and they told me 20 minutes for 4 tacos and 1 torta. I got there in 15 minutes and still waited in the restaurant. A total of 35 minutes of waiting, I kept asking about my order and they kept saying one minute. When they finally gave me my food the order was completely wrong. The tacos were wrong and torta. When I spoke up, I got the confused look and annoyed face. The cashier said well who ever took your order, wrote it down incorrectly..... How is this my fault? They offered me a free drink since I had been waiting for so long, but I declined. I informed the cashier and manager that I would never come back again. 35 minute wait is crazy and I called ahead and they still messed up my order twice!!!

Was looking for fast tacos and got them. Tried the steak, pastor, chicken and barbacoa. All were super flavorful. We tried both lettuce/tomato/cheese and cilantro/onions and definitely recommend the latter. Very good prices and friendly service. Will be back for sure.

This place is amazing! My friends and I came here one night from our hotel and we absolutely loved it. We ate here about four times over the duration of our trip. Their cilantro dinner is great, and a great price. My friends loved the burritos and tortas. The only complaint I would have is the lighting, which is a little bright, but the great customer service, price, and taste all make up for this small flaw. I wish they had this restaurant where I come from.

Nice little shop in a strip mall. Food was good, prices were on the lower side. Had the Cilantro Dinner that cane with a tamale, quesadilla, and taco with beans and rice. Would have been better off with two or three tacos. Rice and beans weren't that tasty. The taco was nicely flavored. Quesadilla was fine and the tamale were acceptable. Nothing jumped out, but it was a perfectly good meal. Average, thus the three stars.

The food here is really good, little place with not a ton of places to sit, because during lunch time during the week, this place can get crowded. Because of this the workers get confused...I placed an order for two chicken tacos to go and they put my order with the "called In" to go pile...I had to go up to the counter after my number was never called and track down my order. They should know by reference on a ticket to who is in the resturant waiting or who actually it's present but on the way. With that aside, I will be back because the Rosemont area doesn't have a good mexican restuarnant and this place is really good. The food tastes fresh and full of flavor. Check this place out if you are in the area!

This place is genuine, so if you have a gringo palate don't bother, it's not Taco Bell! But if you like real Mexican food you will smile allot while you eat your food, and prices are great, lunches are under $10!

Very good, made to order. Chile relleno tostada is delicious for veggie option, if a little hard to eat (chile's fault). Boyfriend loved barbacoa meat best for tacos. Cheap and friendly service. Great find in that area. Can't wait to go back!

Was around here for Anime Central, wanted something that wasn't McDonald's. It was a pretty long walk away from the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center but GODDAMN are their tacos good! If you are looking for over priced average food, with poor customer service, and an extremely long wait time (crowded or not), then this is your place! They are extremely rude in this place and appear to give preferential treatment to other Mexicans. I gave them a few chances but today was the last. A friend of mine ate there and had a hair in his burrito. If that's your thing then give it a try.

Delicious food! I ordered the steak taco dinner and was completely satisfied. My buddy ordered the steak burrito dinner and loved it as well. The amount of food served was perfect.

We tried Cilantro Taco Grill for the first time and had a very good experience. It is very clean and on the verge of a little bit trendy. Not sure if the people there were the owners but they were very very nice. Our food was excellent for counter Mexican food. I had the pork burrito. It was delicious with grilled onions and big chunks of avocado. My companion had the steak tacos which were perfectly cooked and "fresh and delicious". His words. :). The sauces that accompany are very very good. One is a spicy avocado cream. Superb!

Cilantro Taco Grill has been open for a couple weeks now. There are not a ton of options in the Rosemont area for lunching so I was happy to see this eatery open across the street from my office. I went on opening day...and boy was the place packed! I think it was a combo of the excitement of a new place to try, TACOS (!!) and the mariachi band that was out front. Now, I waited in line longer than I would have liked to...if it were any other day I probably would have walked out. I (and everyone else) waited a reeeaaally long time. I don't think CTG was prepared for the very large crowd that day. They did compensate by giving you a free taco of your choosing with your order. I liked the pickled veggies on the table, the tacos were aight. I had the pastor, barbacoa and a thin steak. I thought the barbacoa was the best of the three. They also had a hibiscus drink which I enjoyed. I'll give this place another go and hope it's not the mad house it was on opening day.

Amazing. My boyfriend is Mexican so we eat a lot of it. This is legit. I took the advice of a previous reviewer and got the guacamole and he made it right there to order. The tacos and tortas and tamales were all nicely done. Food affordable. Tacos about a $1.80

I am Hispanic, So of course I am going to vouch for authenticity. 1) order ahead if you are on lunch, the line was long and the woman at the register is SLOW. I am glad we phoned our order. I was able to go right to register and pay. But with that being said the lady is SLOW. I tried the guacamole with chips never again. Overloaded with Cilantro I get it (its your signature) but seriously way way too much and i asked the lady on the phone and she told me there was very little. NOT! it was also very watery and not creamy. I would be happy to supply the GUACAMOLE AND REAL CHIPS ANY DAY. Give me a call I would be happy to help you master this. Authencity hmmm so so.

Brand new and I love it, tried basic steak tacos the bomb!!! Orchata not even sure if I spelled it right but that rice water is on point!!!

Was very mediocre. Could use fresh salsa. The restaurant has enough seating for a busy time. Not too many drink or dessert choices. We don't think we will be coming back here again.

Best Mexican food in the area. Wait is a little long for food at times but worth it. I've tried the steak torts and tacos, and the cecina and pastor tacos. All good!

  • Beth M.

  • Mark M.

And their quesadillas! Only thing I didn't like very much were their tamales, but I don't even care. Their tacos were super good and pretty cheap. I'm coming back every time I'm in Rosemont!

    (5)
  • Justin L.

  • Tina G.

  • Sami D.

Great place. The steak burrito is awesome. They also offer tripe and tongue, I know not something Americans eat, but for Latinos and eastern Europeans this is great. Also I strongly suggest try their HOT AVOCADO SAUCE. Good service and reasonably priced.

  • B R Hungry X.

It was alright. Tacos were pretty good, tamales were dry. salsa was salty and we had to pay for it, most places offer it complimentary. There are definitely better spots. Probably won't go back, nothing stood out. Disappointing for a spot that landed decent ratings.

Really enjoy the food here - it's fresh and tastes great! Big fan of the pastor tacos but also really enjoy the chicken ones as they are not dried out like a lot of other taco places. Very clean too - have eaten-in a couple times and was happy with the experience. Once we discovered this place, we kept making the trip back!

Superb!

Came here to eat before going to the movies. Have to say the steak tacos are fantastic. They're pretty comparable to some of the nicer Mexican restaurants and are half the price. Definitely recommend this place!

Just recently went back to try steak burrito, carnitas taco and real tamale man oh man this place is the spot clean and new spot . Prices are average but the food is so worth it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
