I've eaten here a number of times and I can't say I've ever had anything but a wonderful meal. I love the music - it's ideal for fine dining. No rock, just classy jazz. The servers have been cheerful and haven't steered me wrong when asked for recommendations. The dishes are mostly traditional but tasty. Wine selections, although limited, are adequate. Tonight I had a small pizza for the first time. It was very tasty and as I ordered it. The owner came to the table to check on us and we had a nice chat. Nothing to complain about here - the food was great, the atmosphere is... uh... Italian ... and the service was very good. I will come again and I will recommend it to friends.

Nasty tasteless pizza with a side of grease.... Had this pizza last night and it was seriously tasteless and dripping with grease. It also took 1 hour to get our food, I live 8 min away!!! Lastly when someone charges you 1.00 extra because you are using a credit card really pi***s me off!!!

Do not waste your money! There was nothing satisfactory about the service, the food, presentation and the management. Actually, I had a small complaint and the owner was not helpful and very rude!

What the ****. What the hell just happened in my mouth? I cannot explain how angry I am right now. I live five minutes away from this pizza place and I just ordered the BBQ Chicken Pizza for the first time in my life. I cannot explain how orgasmic this pizza was. I have had Lou's, Gino's, and all that other bullshit from Chicago before...but ****. This pizza made me question what I have been doing wrong my whole life. Five stars for this incredible pizza. Wow.

Pros: they deliver, are open for lunch, are are good for banquets and parties with a large crowd, only place in town with carbonara Cons: really greasy, but tasteless pizza, too little shrimp in the shrimp scampi and too buttery, in the carbonara-soupy sauce, weird ham instead of bacon or proscuitto. Yelp says it best with "meh, I've experience better"

We are a delivery kind of pizza family, so my experience isn't dine-in, but delivery. The first time we used their online ordering system, we ordered anchovies on the side for my boyfriend, and they didn't read their own messages and put anchovies on the entire pizza, however they did replace it quickly. We live fairly close and it is always delivered in a timely manner. I think the pizza is delicious, and since the first time using their online system, they have not messed up again. My only other little flaw with this place is usually the person that takes my order (It's been a woman the last few times, the same woman I'm pretty sure) and she's kind of rude. Other than that, I do like this Sam's, and the pizza itself and the food is good.

If you go there bring an ax or saw to cut the pizza crust. Once was one of the better pizza joints but somehow they don't seem to care anymore. On the other hand you won't need a reservation. The other Italian dishes are so-so.

My standby every time I go home. The ravioli is still the standard I judge all raviolis by!

Recently had a good experience at Sams. Sal was on top of things, our waitress was polite and prompt, and the pizza was good. The restaurant was not very busy and that made for a quiet dinner.

Interior quite dated, and not overly clean. Service so-so, friendly but slow and not very knowledgeable about the menu. Food very mediocre and bland. Pizza was tough and the sauce tasted like canned tomato soup. Very disappointing.

As an out-of-Towner, I had try the local Pizza and Italian joint...but SAMs was a disappointment. I tried the Gino's pizza, one of their many specialty pizzas. Stuck with the standard thin crust. What I got was an under seasoned, very plain crusted pizza topped with greasy, low quality cheese. When a guy has to add salt, pepper, and Chulula hot sauce just to get some flavor, there's something wrong. Pizza sauce lacked any sort of definition. Very bland. Crust was just okay. Toppings didn't do it for me. With fresh tomatoes on a pizza they can't be sliced like they are at Sams's. They need to be diced or the water in them burns your mouth. No fun! Only three beers on draft--way too limited in selection for 2014. On the positive side, my server, Amber, was extra friendly and always smiling. She was the bright spot on this visit. Bottom line, skip SAMs and check out GreenFire down the street. SAMs may have been good "back in the day", it ain't nothing to write home about these days.

We had our Christmas party there last night. I was greeted by a very friendly host and he was also the bartender. He took me to the room we had reserved for $100. I was not impressed at all by room or decor. It reminded me of a jail house visitation room (not that I hang out in these:). The walls were bare except for a drab, horrid peach color and one picture. The tables and chairs were old and out dated. I luckily had brought some decorations for table and candles. My other co-worker called me from outside the restaurant, stating that she had just been told by one of the owners to carry her arm load of packages around to the back of the building. I guess he was hoping she would find the unmarked door in a very under lighted parking lot? I told her to come back to front doors and I helped her to room. The rest of my party arrived in bar area. Again, decor and lighting dim but bartender friendly and helpful. Our dinner was to be served at 8. We walked backed to our room 5 minutes early to find the food already on serving table. Felt like, "Here you go and good luck". We had ordered 5 "large" pizzas, salads and garlic bread. The pizzas (of different varieties) were hard to identify. Way too much cheese topping, covering very few meats and veggies. Domino's puts their pizzas to shame. I saw a picture on Sam"s website of a pizza and these must have been it's ugly cousins. I would not recommend this restaurant for party bookings.

Oy. Came here for a wedding reception on a Saturday night and wish I hadn't. The rope lighting around the bar was half lit. This was a wedding reception!!!! Take the time to replace the lighting and make it nice for the bride and groom! A few times there was some guy walking through with jeans, boots, and a t-shirt. He picked up a couple empty warming trays for the buffet line and took them back to the kitchen. If he was a manager then I should stop writing this review right now because how could you present yourself at a wedding reception like that? The beer selection was purely MGD, Bud, etc. Food was horrible. They had italian beef in a tray with someone serving it on your place. I asked "is this italian beef for sandwiches?" he replied "yes, without the bun." So it was just italian beef on a plate? What is that? The bride and groom deserved a lot better than this place.

We had a large group on Mother's Day and they made it work and we had a great lunch - great salads and pizza.

My step-dad and I had an impromptu lunch. I'm gluten free and was craving pizza so he recommended this place. He was willing to drive from Byron to the north side of Rockford for gf pizza. This place didn't disappoint. We each had our gluten and gluten free pizzas.

So we had originally a bad experience at this location. A friend talked us into trying it again and this is our third visit. Where our first visit was a solid one star, and our first try back was a 3 star occasion. On this visit we returned off a group on. We have wanted so badly to like the place as we have a "need" for an Italian " go to" in this area. This visit was the best yet. Solid pasta offerings. I enjoyed the sausage cacciatore.

We went in for lunch with coupons that said nothing about what time of the day you could use them. We were told by our server that we could only use those at dinner, even though we were going to order dinner items. What did it matter? We couldn't even get a manager to come out and explain to us why. It wasn't like they were busy, we were the only 2 people in their at noon, which should have been their peak lunch time. If you're going to go through the trouble of printing out coupons, why not make a note "good for night time" only or something along those lines. Oh, and don't worry about reservations, they're never busy, so that won't be a problem. I'm being dead serious, too. *Edit in reply to the comment from Sam's below: If there was an communication it was of no fault of our own. We were told WE COULD NOT ORDER FROM THE DINNER MENU, regardless. The server told us that came straight from the manager's mouth. I feel the manager should have came out and talked to us instead of hiding in the back. It is not the server's job. We didn't misunderstand the server, if anything, she did. She acted as if she'd never seen any coupons in her life. Ideally, I would think that when we said "we're just going to leave" she would have gotten a manager or something. Instead, she just looked mad and gave us a check for our tea that we never even touched. Not a pleasant experience, which might have been averted if only a manager had come to talk to us. That's just bad customer service any way you look at it.

Does every city have a Sam's Italian restaurant? On a road that's wall to wall strip malls and chains, this solitary building was most welcome. It's really gorgeous inside and I even love the pastel pink on the outside. We got there shortly after they opened. It was amusing to see the argument between the only 2 wait staff as to whom they were going to wait on. We ordered calamari that we really enjoyed, I actually got pretty full on that and the delicious bread. I was actually glad when they brought me an entree I didn't order and had to wait for a corrected one. I know exactly what happened. As soon as I said veal, picatta immediately registered in her mind. I actually ordered parmesean, because I wanted the spaghetti on the side and not on top of it. I enjoyed hanging out so for once I wasn't in a hurry on this mini vacation. Angie actually talked us into getting the tiramisu, oh yeah. This was a good choice on our search for Italian.

While the food we had (lasagna and fettucine carbonara) were quite good, the service was NOT up to par. We waited quite a while for service on a "not very busy" Friday night and were greeted by a young, surly waitress who could have cared less if we were there or not. There were no "pleases" or "thank yous" uttered, despite the fact that my guest and I were very friendly and polite. At the end of the meal, we waited FOREVER to get our change back. Then, the manager, who had greeted other tables and asked them about their meals, slid the change onto the corner of the table, without so much as eye contact and as we walked out we were again face to face with that very same manager, who ignored us! There were no "thank you for comings" or "goodnights." This is one case where the "good food" is trumped by a bad experience.
