Great food. The barbecued ribs and hot lips are amazing!

Got the blooming onion and it was missing flavor. I also got pork wrapped with bacon, which was great. I would come here again.

I'm not sure who's running the kitchen knows what french onion soup or chicken piccatta are, because I've ordered both and they tasted nothing like I'd expect them to, very flavorless or just weird. That being said, you could certainly do worse in Quincy. Just stick to the bar and grill basics on the menu.

OK. Very popular bar/restaurant. I personally think the food is average, but many absolutely love it. Avoid it during "happy hour" unless you're happy in a noisy and crowded place!

Absolutely love this place other than the lighting, it is rather dark. Great appetizers & best French onion soup ever. Menu gives you a lot of choices so no one will go hungry. Prices are reasonable to pricey depending on what you order. I get soup & a different appetizer each time.

This restaurant has delicious, unique salads with warm bread served at each table. Their mozzarella sticks taste great and appear to be hand battered. If you go on the weekend, expect to stand in the waiting area for awhile until you get a seat.

Good burgers. Good beer selection (and very reasonably priced). Was in town visiting family and this was recommended as a casual sports bar type place to go. Glad we did. Little dark, lighting wise.

3.5 stars. Surprisingly pretty good bar. The food was pretty legit. I had the petite salmon and wild rice. Salmon was seasoned and cooked well. Rice was flavorful. They had good drink specials, including $1 shots on the Tuesday we went there. We came in at 10:30, and the kitchen closed at 11. My only hangup was that our entrees came before our appetizers did. Our waitress later explained that the batter for frying took longer to prepare, and she wanted to be sure we got all our food. I just wish I had known that beforehand, since i was STARVED. But they did serve a complimentary bread (i think it's pumpernickel... the dark brown kind) which was soft, and perfect with a bit of whipped butter. I only didn't like that every food item was priced at an $8 minimum. I'm a voracious, but smaller eater... and i wanted an entree and appetizer. It just stunk that my $8 bang bang shrimp was about the same price as my $9ish salmon entree. I also tried to mozzarella sticks... which were HUGE! more like logs. But in both the bang bang shrimp, and the mozzarella sticks... the fried batter just seemed off to me. Flaky, crispy, but completely unflavorful. For the shrimp, the texture almost seemed hard. The shrimp didn't taste good. The breading/batter was meh. I felt that was a waste of money. The lemon shakeup (which was available with about 10 different flavors) was definitely good, but leans on the sweet side. I believe i had the peach flavoring. Service was good. Clean interior. I'd just stick with the well cooked meals, and stay away from everything fried.

Great food and great value. We arrived to a packed waiting area but were seated within 5 minutes, probably because we were a party of 2 and willing to sit at a high top. I had a surf and turf that was the special. Only $15.99 for a 8 oz ribeye and shrimp dinner. My 22 yr old daughter had a buffalo horseshoe... We had never heard of this but seems to be common in Illinois. It was a breaded chicken breast with buffalo sauce on Texas toast covered with fries and nacho cheese. She loved it.

The most comprehensive menu I have ever seen without being overwhelmed. Amazing prices. Everything's good! Bubbly blue cheese a must and their gluten free menu is better than most in Cali where I live. Just good food. Please stop in and enjoy this hometown place! Never been here. Will be back!

Really enjoyed The Abbey. Best place we've been in the area!

Little known fact: Einstein's original Theory of Relativity was based on the price one pays for bagel in a New York area deli. In 1935 he ordered a bagel and cream cheese at the Bagel Barn in Princeton, New Jersey. At first bite he remarked, "I've had better bagels in Brooklyn," but after a moment's pause, he added, "but this one's half the price. So it's better. You see, my son, it's all relative." Littler known fact: I made up the above fact. But I bet Einstein would've agreed with the parable: one's judgement of how good something is is inversely relative to price one pays. Take for instance the weekly BBQ special at The Abbey. It's good. Fall-off-the-bone ribs, grilled & sauced tender chicken breast, a dish of buttered sweet corn, choice of a healthy heap of cole slaw or potato salad and served with a hot corn bread muffin are likely the makings of my final meal on earth ... that is, if I'm given the opportunity to choose my final meal. After a day of travel, my colleague and I each ordered the BBQ platter. Dang, we barely said a word to our famished selves until we finished. I think our first words afterward were, "Man, that was delicious!" But our second sentence was, "Can you believe that was only 9 bucks?!" You read that right. All of that Kansas City style deliciousness for only NINE AMERICAN DOLLARS. That's a remarkable bargain. A bargain so good that if I lived closer to The Abbey, I'd seldom dine at home on Tuesday nights. We both liked The Abbey a lot. In fact my only (minor) complaint is that with a name like "The Abbey," I kind of got my hopes up for a good Belgian beer. The closest they had was New Belgium's Abbey Ale. Not bad, but I had my sights set a little higher. (I'm looking at you, Piraat Ale brewed by Brouwerij Van Steenberge N.V. in Ertvelde, Belgium.) Clearly I've become spoiled living in Milwaukee. I forgot how the rest of America drinks beer! ;) I can't say everything on The Abbey's menu is as tasty and as good of a value, but if it's anything like the BBQ platter, it's the best stuff on Earth. You see, it's all relative...

I've never had a bad meal or appetizer here. I've had many items on the menu! I love the ribeye special during the week. Good cut for the price $11. My boyfriend ordered the parmesan encrusted salmon and said it was the best salmon he'd had in awhile. Staff is friendly and knowledgable on all food items. They have a pop rocks shot that's awesome and also the lemonade shakeups are the best!

This seems to be one of the most affordable and popular watering holes in town. I am from out of town, and when I come to Quincy I seem to always find myself here at some point and time for half off appetizers, cleverly coined as "abbey-tizers." Since I am from the Chicagoland area, when I see beer priced at $3 or less I am defiantly sold. Appetizer wise I have had the blooming onion and quesdilla before, and have yet to be disappointed in that front. But the Horse Shoe off the regular menu, which is a burger covered with garlic toast, mountain of fries, and then smothered in a special cheese sauce... needless to say its delicious and messy. If you're in the Quincy area after 3pm swing through The Abbey, you will not be disappointed.

I've never had a bad dish here. Food is always awesome. Not much of a sports bar, but they do have a big screen. They always have lots of food and drink specials.

Fun place, good food, great people = Good Times!

I've had the extreme pleasure of going to The Abbey a few times now and I've never been disappointed. I've sat at the bar, at a table and in a booth.. It does not matter where you sit, it's still a very peaceful and pleasure filled experience. I've had the chicken "logs" seriously these are HUGH but with the right amount of breading, it's not full of breading, but full of meat. Excellent flavor and very moist. Then there are the mozzarella sticks.. are as huge as the chicken "logs" You are going to be dipping those babies for a long long time. Wow, they are yummy. The chicken broccoli tortellini is amazing, the sauce is perfect, chicken is moist and perfect sized with just a hint of broccoli. The atmosphere is very nice, some say it is dark but I think it's perfect. If you happen to be in or around Quincy, you have to stop by. From what I understand the owners also own a few other places in town as well. I'm not exactly sure what they are, but I know for sure The Abbey is amazing!

Fun place to hang for the bar scene on Fri/Sat nights

Very popular place in the Quincy area. Has a full bar and a diverse menu that doesn't cost you too much. The sandwiches are very good and decently priced. I usually get the chicken club which is very enjoyable, as is the quesadilla basket.

Others say that it is really dark inside, I didn't find the lighting all that dark. I also didnt take issue with a traditional menu. The place has been here for over 30 years, what do you expect?! + better food than I expected + great French onion soup + good salmon, I asked for it cooked medium - the service was fast and impersonal, but that doesn't bother me! + I'd eat here over the other places I've eaten in Quincy while here on business + price wasn't bad, $20 for a salmon caesar salad, kettle of French onion soup, and a glass of wine

I'll echo another reader's sentiment. Unimaginative menu. Nothing about this place is outstanding. Nothing. The food was okay. The service was okay. No big deal.

Probably the nicest bar in the small town of Quincy, Ill. The food here pretty good, and somewhat pricey, but you get what you pay for. The portions are big and you always get it right on time. The drink menu is pretty good too. The beer selection is just like every other bar you have been to, they have a pretty good mixed drink section, and they have a great martini selection. Only bad thing about this place is that its really dark.
(4)Diane N.
If you are looking for a dark bar/restaurant, cramped with tables jammed too close with an unimaginative menu The Abbey is for you. Nothing about this place is outstanding. Nothing. The food was okay. The service was okay. No big deal.

I agree with my husband when he told me after eating here that he would give the Abbey 3.5 stars. We had to wait about 15 minutes due to the Saturday night crowd, which was fine, but there was no waiting area, meaning that we and two other couples had to stand awkwardly pushed against the side of the small entrance hallway while staff and patrons walked through inches away from us. It was pretty dark inside with cramped seating and loud patrons, whose voices reverberated through the small restaurant interior. I felt a little like I was in the middle of a hurricane because the wait staff moved so quickly and spoke so loudly. I was slightly annoyed with the mediocre style of pop music they chose to play and would have preferred something more along the lines of classic rock to fit the atmosphere. The food was relatively pricey but generally enjoyable. The nachos had chunks of inexpensive, bland beef on them, but I enjoyed the flavor of the cheese. Although my shrimp were overcooked, my filet was juicy, tender, and cooked to order. Overall, the menu does not have a lot of selection or ingenuity, but the food is decent.

Ate here while visiting in Quincy. What a boring menu. Nothing innovative. The service was lousy and the food was bad, too. Big prices for Quincy, I thought.

I am a tough grader - so 3 stars is A-Ok!. Might equal other peoples 4 stars so you probably won't be disappointed. It is good food for a reasonable price with good service. But keep in mind it is a dark bar that is many years old. Lots of TV's so a great place to watch a game.

This is more of a bar after 9 PM than restaurant. The atmosphere is conducive to having a good time. Stay away from very loud Karaoke on Wednesday nights. The food is always good with large portions and a lot of options. They stick with American dishes and do it right. The service leaves much to be desired.
