Southern Belle’s Pancake House Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I'm a food snob. While it's nice to think every place deserves five stars, three stars from me is baseline good. With that in mind, this is one of the best breakfast joints around. True, you might have a long wait on the weekend or an occasional wrong, late or cold order, but overall this place is great. Huge portions at reasonable prices.

First time at this establishment, and I don't think I will be returning. Personally, my food was fine. Nothing bad about it, nothing great about it. My father-in-laws food, however, was poorly made and he sent it back. It was a piece of overcooked chicken. He was then informed that they don't take purchases off of tickets but he could get some bacon to rectify the problem. Definitely not a smart management move. And almost 5 dollars for a side of bacon?? 3 pieces of burnt bacon for 5 dollars. Thats ridiculous.

So, I went to this place with my family for the first time on Father's Day. I ordered an Italian sausage omelet (Italian sausage, peppers, onions, mozzarella cheese) with pancakes and hash browns. I must say the omelet was not good as the only flavor it had was onion. It tasted like I was eating an onion omelet. If there was Italian sausage and peppers I couldn't tell. I even added some salt and pepper, but I couldn't eat it. My father in-law got an omelet as well (corn beef hashed) and said similar experience for him. This is the reason I am giving 3 stars. I do not recommend getting and omelet here. On the plus side my pancakes were excellent. Good flavor and large size. My wife and mother in-law had eggs Benedict and they were very happy with their breakfast. Also, our server did a good job. so the service was good. I will go again and try something other than an omelet as the menu has a good variety of breakfast selections.

RED VELVET PANCAKES!! I ordered the Southern Belle Skillet which was very , very good (kind of a meat lovers/ butcher block thingy) and not dry like a certain way over rated place throughout the Chicago suburbs.. and it came with a side of pancakes... they let me substitute RED VELVET PANCAKES! The RVP's come with this delicious cream cheese topping and with some syrup.. I was pretty much in heaven. Decent coffee. Lisa got a basic breakfast (scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns) and pumpkin pancakes. It was good ** we'll get back to those pumpkin pancakes Our friend Janet got the mexican skillet and she was pretty much "it's a'ight" if she spoke that way. And the side of pumpkin pancakes** OK for the ** nobody was grooving on the pumpkin pancakes.. when they set them down.. I was soooo relieved that I didn't order them. They had (GASP!) fruit on them! I'm sure it said it on the menu someplace.. but none of us saw it. A sauce of apples and cranberries. Apparently, I was not alone in my thoughts because they both tasted them and scraped them off.. even tried to pawn some off the apple off on the baby.. he wasn't having any of it. So, the food was good.. somewhere we missed something about the pancakes. The restaurant itself is very nice. Clean and comfortable. Oh.. and RED VELVET PANCAKES!

This place is okay. That's all. If you're really hungry and are okay with mediocre, or less than mediocre food then you will be "okay" with this place. They have 'pancake' in their name, and they're lackluster. Nothing special. The chicken fried steak tasted only of pepper. It was way, way over seasoned with black pepper, and so was the gravy. The steak was served on top of biscuits that were unbelievably dry and they didn't have any gravy because it was placed Soley on the CFS. The hash browns were dried out and just not what I had expected when I read the reviews on this place. Go drive to a Walker Bros for some pancakes. Skip this place.

I've been here a bunch of times, but always forget to write a review. I like this location way more than the Crest-Hill one. Food is better, décor is more simple and the servers are nicer. I came in for breakfast yesterday morning with 2 friends. I arrived early knowing we would have a wait so I put my name down. They don't estimate your wait time, which I didn't like, but they also will seat you without your whole party which I do like, because Crispy Waffle won't do that. I think I waited about a half hour at 10am on a Sunday so that's pretty standard. We sat down and our waitress came over right away with water. 2 of us ordered juice and 1 ordered coffee. My friend did mention she felt like she had to wait long periods of time for coffee refills. I ordered the 3 cheese omelet, which came with hash browns and toast and I also ordered a side of bacon. It was all good and my bacon was very crisp like I requested. My only issue is that the omelets are HUGE. I know it shouldn't be seen as a problem but I can never finish it. My friend ordered banana pancakes and a skillet which she liked and our other friend got a skillet as well. I've also been here for lunch and their cream of chicken soup is amazing if you can get it!

The coffee is always good, the skillets are always on par with what I ask for. And, may I suggest, finishing off breakfast with a Cinn-A-Belle!

Initially I thought of Southern Belle's as just another breakfast/diner type of restaurant. Yes, the menu is typical breakfast and lunch fare, but the interior of this place is gorgeous. It's bright and cheery, with walls painted white and a gray-blue shade that felt beach-y. They've been here a few years, but everything looked brand new! I felt like I was on vacation. We don't go out to breakfast often (one of the reasons this felt like a vacation), but I had Southern Belle's in my bookmarks for awhile. You know those Valpak coupon mailers? I usually throw them out, but this time I opened it to find a coupon for Buy 1 Entrée, Get 1 Entrée free. What a deal! I knew I wanted French toast, but I had a hard time deciding what kind. I finally decided on the Stuffed French Toast with pecans and strawberries, with a side of sausage links. This was a very filling breakfast and perfect for anyone who likes breakfast to taste like dessert. Our waitress checked in on us, kept our coffee mugs full, and we didn't feel rushed to leave when we got the check. Southern Belle's has a great menu, good service, and a relaxing atmosphere. I love this place for the occasional breakfast out.

I don't think I've ever gotten anything here that I didn't like. Service makes it even better. They are all so nice. My Faves: Veggie skillet and Country Fried Steak. (don't judge) ;)

Southern bells This new American Resturant has a moden interior. It strikes me as a chain. The staff was friendly, attentive and attractive. The good Lots of seating in two rooms. The layout is large and open. My order of biscuits seemed home made The place was well staffed The bad The food came out in less than 10 minutes so it was all preped. The biscuits and gravy were cold The coffee was meh, cream was in the standard presealed cups and suger in packets :-( The sausage patty on the side was meh as swell All in all the service was good, the food was not. I would not stop here again. When I got a bill for over 20.00 I had this confirmed!

Came here on my birthday the place is very nice on the inside but the food wasn't so good it came out in f"5 minutes which made me believe it is pre-cooked.unfortunately we will not be returning to this place

Huge portions, and good food. Service....not so much. First sat down and while ordering some other waitress interrupts and says to our waitress "I don't know know if you saw this or not" and picks up the previous customers tip and throws it across the table. As if we were going to take her tip....awkward! The food came out and was great, but our waitress never once came back to refill drinks and we were done with our food for 10 minutes before we finally just went to the counter ourselves to ask for a check.

One morning I awoke to a mad craving of chocolate chip pancakes. Not just any ole chocolate chip pancakes, but ones that question whether or not I am indulging in a gooey, warm, chocolatey decadent dessert or if it was still able to be considered breakfast. So I went to yelp. My wife came across Southern Belle and we were sold after reading the reviews. We went on a Sunday morning around 10:30am. We were anticipating at least a 30 minute wait but was presently surprised when we waited only around 10 minutes. The place was packed. I'm sure you can guess what I got... Chocolate chip pancakes, hash browns, and a side of bacon. I was in heaven. The pancakes were on point and satisfied my inner chocolatey beast. I only got 2 and couldn't finish them. Probably it was due to eating the cream of chicken soup before. Yes, you read that correct. I ate soup before my dessert breakfast. The soup was out of this world fantastic. I liked it so much I got another cup to take home to consume later. My wife got some feta skillet something, I wasn't really paying attention to anything other than my food heaven that was in front of me. She said it was fantastic and filling. Service was great. We had the best sarcastic, witty, engaging, and on point server they had. Our cups of coffee were always topped off, plates cleared quickly and all with a smile. I will absolutely go back to feed my breakfast beast, and you should too!

Everything was very good! The food portions were very generous, so we had to take a lot home. It definitely gets busy here but that's to be expected since everyone knows it's great food. We'll definitely be coming back.

Food kicks ass. Menu kicks ass. Service kicks even more ass. It's as good as a breakfast joint gets. Anyone that wants to open a breakfast spot should go to Southern Belles and take note.

Food was great! I had the cantaloupe stuffed chicken salad. The fruit was fresh, chicken salad was delicious, and it came with a cup of soup. I choose the chicken noodle, and it was one of the best chicken noodle soups ever. The portion size was huge and beautiful. My dad had the sweet potatoe skillet. He found it a bit too rich, but it was still good. The pancakes were also huge and delicious.

We had another great breakfast here. This time I tried a skillet and it was fantastic! As usual, I took my pancakes home for tomorrow's breakfast. They are always so good. Our server, today, was Judy, and she was so nice, helpful and pleasant. I hope to be at her table more often.

They fry bacon in the same oil they try French fries. Disgusting for a vegetarian. I will never go back.

I love eating here. I have gone here with my students from Chikara Martial Arts Academy, down the street from them. I have brought my family and friends here. The food is made fresh everyday and the quality speaks for itself. I feel this is a great place to come for a tasty Breakfast or Lunch. The Service is top notch. My Coffee cup is never empty. And my server usually makes sure that I have everything I need to enjoy my experience there. I remember before they had WIFI that I asked them if they would have Wireless internet. Shortly after I asked about that, they had it, and it really makes being there for a business meeting for a afternoon lunch away from the office pleasant and productive. I will continue to come here with my family and friends because they provide the kind of experience that I enjoy.

  • Vaughn J.

Pretty solid place for breakfast. My only complaint is the turkey sausage has pork casing but they just as well have turkey patties and turkey meat from the bone. I love all of the options. Certainly our go to spot when we don't want to cook breakfast. The staff here is always friendly. If you're here on the weekend you could possibly expect a wait but please enjoy the free coffee while you wait.

Decor was rustic and cute. We received wonderful service from the staff and the food was was such a great value. The corn beef hash was homemade , bisquits and gravy was the beat I've had in a very long time. If you are ever in Yorkville, IL, you should stop in for the food.

My mouth is watering for this place just thinking about how awesome their breakfast is. I've been here quite a few times with neighbors for a "farewell breakfast" before heading to the airport to fly back to Kansas City. This is ALWAYS the place that everyone wants to go. Their lunch isn't awesome but their breakfast is spectacular. Service is quite good for always having a bigger group, the place is always packed and everything comes out in an abundance. I love it. And you should check it out too.

Went there for lunch on a Saturday, the kids ordered breakfast items, chocolate chip pancakes and red velvet french toast. The grownups ordered lunch items, a corned beef sandwich and chicken panini. The corned beef sandwich was bland, it had no flavor at all and did not have any mustard on it. The red pepper, mozzarella and garlic mayo chicken panini had no flavor as well, could not taste any of the featured ingredients. The plus side is that the soups were just ok and the kids enjoyed their breakfast. Tldr; Don't order anything that is not on their breakfast menu. We won't be going again.

great saturdaysunday breakfast. I feel they are always looking for a reason not to take the group on and local coupons. service is great food is compatible to price point. The selection is admirable with items like red velvet pancakes. Wait is very long but they take you in order. Sometimes they offer coffee while waiting (this helps on a breakfast service. Sometimes the hosts are rude, but at least you get some decent food. I believe they are only open for breakfast and lunch.

We just got around to trying this place. It has been around for a while and always seemed busy when driving by. This is now one of our favorite places to eat! Great food, huge portions and reasonable prices. I have tried the burgers (could use a little more flavor), sirloin steak and eggs, country fried steak. The soups are great. The wife and kids love the banana pancakes and waffles. The place is very clean and the staff are friendly. Kind of reminds me of a small town diner. We love it! Downsides are they are only open until 3pm. They close the kitchen down at 2:30pm or so. This would be a great place to go to or carry out for dinner if they were open. The other downside is that during prime time it is very busy. We like to go in-between breakfast and lunch. We have never had to wait at this time frame.

Love this place! My family goes here for breakfast often. The food is awsome especially the homeade sausage patties, the grits are the best I had since I moved here from the south. I dont like pancakes but they are as big as the plate and the french toast is great . If you go on the weekends expect to wait it is jamed packed but well worth the wait.

My biggest complaint about this place is that, while the address is on S. Van Dyke Rd, the building does not have a "Southern Belle's" sign facing S. Van Dyke Rd! I drove around for about 20 minutes before I realized this was the right place! Good food, good service-but could you spend a few bucks on adequately labeling your restaurant?!

Very good service but I was very disappointed with the undertone of fake buttery flavored oil used to cook my omelette and home fries. Gag reflex kicked in.

I was once a regular at this place. Went almost every weekend, sometimes twice a week. . I never had one complaint about the food and the service staff was always pleasant and attentive. I stopped going because I had a run in with the restaurant manager and swore I would never go back. Well after more than a year I decided that I was going to give it a try again. I ordered the Cobb Salad, which according to their menu was Chicken, chopped egg, tomato, Bacon, avocado and bleu cheese. When the salad came it had cheddar cheese but no bleu cheese. I mentioned this to the server who after 5 mins. came back and said that the Cobb Salad doesn't come with bleu cheese. I told her Ok, just give me a side of bleu cheese. The server was busy so I didn't feel the need to prove I was right until after the meal. When the check came and I noticed that I was charged for the side of bleu cheese I showed her the menu. After another 5 mins she came back and told me that the manager said that it was suppose to be bleu cheese dressing, however we could make the one time exception and not charge me for the side. I looked over and noticed that it was the same manager I had the run-in two years ago. I thanks the server, and told her that this will be a one time exception for me because I will not come back. Note to the management of this place. there will be no third chances for your restaurant so I don't really care, but I would suggest that you change your f-ing menu to reflect what the item is.

This is a decent place for breakfast/brunch. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop in, but if you're driving through Plainfield, it's okay.

Watered down coffee. Otherwise so so. They use a lot of chorizo in alot if items. :) they know how to get people in and out so there's rarely a long wait :)

My daughter and I stopped by today for a late breakfast/early lunch. The restaurant is very clean and our server was very nice. I had a Groupon I'd purchased and wanted to use it. I thought we'd give this location another try after a few less-than-perfect experiences. I ordered the Denver skillet but substituted the ham with bacon. My daughter got the blt club sandwich with a side salad. Our server brought my daughter's salad and she proceeded to pick out most of the lettuce which was wilted, edges and brown. My skillet arrived and looked o.k.. However, when I ate it, it tasted of old grease and the hashbrown potatoes were not browned. It was as if the skillet was cooked and almost done and then the cook realized the potatoes were forgotten and then an attempt was made to add them as an afterthought. They weren't raw but they sure were not done. That plus the taste of the old grease made this awful. I was glad that pancakes came as a side to the skillet. That saved me. At least they were o.k. I never send food back and never told our server. It wasn't her fault. However, I did mention this to the hostess as I paid. She stated she'd "discuss it" with the kitchen staff. Whatever.....wasn't looking for or asking for anything aside from good food. I might also mention the crazylady in the restroom! Of course this is beyond the control of the restaurant. As I was in the ladies room, a lady came out of a stall stating she looked atrocious and kept repeating that. She was not talking to me but to herself. She began to wash her hands and furiously hit the soap dispenser about 30 x's (no exaggeration). Then she began to say "sick! sick! i'm sick! i'm sick!" all in frantic fashion. I was a bit hesitant to go over to the sink but then she left the restroom. I tried the soap dispenser once, just to see if it was not working. It worked fine. I don't know what the deal with the meltdown was about but when I looked around the dining area, she was sitting calmly eating with some male. wow! We had a good laugh about that. By the way, she did look atrocious! I used my Groupon. I won't be going back. This is not the first unsatisfactory meal I've had at this location. They don't seem to care and nothing seems to change.

This is one of our go to places for breakfast/brunch. The menu has several great choices especially the skillets! I have never had a bad meal or bad service here. I especially enjoy the outdoor seating area !

  • Rion R.

I guess this is a chain and first thought that it was a one of a kind place (like Larry's acrossed the street). It is often crowded on Saturday morning but we often go and use the buy one entree and get one free deal which makes the meal $15-20 with tip which is great for good food at a breakfast place. The inside is clean and the service is great and people are friendly. I am looking forward to trying the outdoor seating in the summer! It's always packed so get there early and I would certainly recommend them over the rival long time Larrys next door.

  • Katie L.

No one should eat this much at breakfast. These were the biggest pancakes I have ever seen! I ordered the fried french toast with strawberries, and the amount served on the plate would have fed the entire restaurant. Also, it just tasted like fry batter. Pretty disappointing. But, the restaurant is very clean, open, and modern and the service was excellent. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing?

Overall very pleasant experience with really satisfying food! Definitely recommend this for brunch. I ordered the pumpkin French toast with cream filling (check the specials menu) and it was delicious!

I have yet to go to Southern Belle's when it's not busy. This may be because you can always find a groupon for the place, or because it has really good food. Either way... It's really cute on the inside, and they added some great outdoor seating with covered panels for the summer. Their menu is huge and full of things for any kind of breakfast taste. I tend to stick to the skillets and omelets. It should be noted that if your menu item contains cheese, it will come with tons of it. They do NOT mess around with any toppings, but I feel like they're super serious about cheese application. I've gone for lunch once and got a soup/salad special. Their lunch was fine but I want to make note of the lunch rolls, because they are worth coming to a breakfast place in the afternoon. They are light, fluffy and delicious. They are so delicious, in fact, that I asked my waitress if we could buy them for Thanksgiving dinner (she said yes... and they were pretty cheap, if memory serves).

I never thought that this will happen, I am sitting down here and so upset because I need to express what I am feeling right now and writing a worst feedback to one of my favorite restaurant. If only I would take out even the one star I will!! Lesson learned don't go here 1 hour before closing you will see the rudeness of the staff!! We came there at 15 minutes before 2pm, knowing 1 hour still a plenty of time to eat a brunch before they're closing time which is at 3pm, even though we notice that there are just few customers left we still decided to eat there knowing they will still give there best service even to their last customer! The food arrived so fast like 10-15 mins so we are glad cuz we thought we still can enjoy our food without hurrying up!! But while we're eating I noticed I keep on looking my clock because some of the staff are starting to clean up the whole restraurant at around 2:15!! Because there are just two tables left with customers, one is ours and the other are another family...At first I did not mind but what is so upsetting is the rudeness of one staff who started cleaning up the rug ( with a broom!) which is by the entrance and by our table!! Mind you we are still eating there and all the dusts and dirt are coming to us and to our food!!!!!!!! Until now I am so upset!!! I don't mind paying $50 but being treated like that along with my whole family is UNACCEPTABLE!!! We did not finish our food and just left at 2:30!!! Just to remind you there is a reason why you put on the entrance door the time of your opening and closing time, meaning with that time on your door customer STILL have the privilege and right to get the good service that they are paying for!! If your staff wants to get home early especially on Saturdays then don't anymore accept customers at 2pm!!!

So glad this location opened up, as its so much closer to me than the Joliet location. They have monster pancakes that are so fluffy and can't stop eating them every time I'm there, no matter how stuffed I am! The portions are huge so they are very reasonable on prices, service is very fast and friendly. It's my go-to place for breakfast!

I discovered Southern Belle's the other day. It's one of those places I've driven by a thousand times, and would have continued doing so had it not been pointed out and suggested to me. We received awesome and fast service despite the place being packed with the brunchtime crowd. I'm a breakfastphile, and this place is a breakfast-lover's paradise. You get a truckload of delicioso, quality food for relatively cheap. I ordered an Egg Beaters omelet with tomatoes, Canadian bacon, and avocado (perfect as my post-workout meal) and it took up 3/4 of the plate. It was served with not-greasy-at-all hash browns and two huge fluffy buttermilk pancakes I couldn't even finish. Southern Belle's is completely on the other side of town, but I'm definitely making my way back soon.

Sooo the kids were hungry after church and I ventured off course to this place. It is a spacious dining location with wonderful natural light. The girls ordered Mickey Mouse pancakes and were very happy with their choice. They were huge, but I was disappointed that it didn't come with a choice of meat. I ended up ordering a side of bacon for them. I think a smaller pancake portion with a side of meat makes more sense. I ordered the gypsy skillet; a long time favorite of mine. It tasted great except the ham was so small it looked more like ground ham than chopped. This disappointed me greatly. Also, for me, the pancakes were dense. Next time I'll order toast. Look at that... All things considered I'm going to return and try something different. I'm hoping the issues I had were isolated incidents. If you're in the area check them out. The prices are reasonable, the space is very nice and the food isn't fabulous, but it is good.

Good food, but terrible customer service. We decided to try the restaurant when we received a "buy one get one free" coupon in the mail. Unfortunately, we discovered the coupon had expired by one day, when paying the cashier. She explained they have current coupons in this month's flier, but would not honor this expired one. When I tried to reason with her, she became very rude and unprofessional. I could understand if a limited-time coupon or promotion was over. But in this case, they admitted to having the exact same coupon that was current, but my particular coupon had expired. So why not just honor this coupon and make the customer happy? The coupon did it's job by bringing a NEW CUSTOMER to their business. Too bad they've just lost that customer forever.

Simply the best... I love their regular sausage links - kinda like mini brats! But I usually eat the turkey links for the health of it. Sausage parties are awesome to!! All the food is fresh, waitresses are very friendly and the place is clean and comfortable. Free wifi too! It's become our. Sunday ritual.

They useta have one of these in Oswego (now inhabited by the wretched "Biscuits") but it weren't as good as this one. This place has a nice modern "cafe" type air, while the Oswego joint was one of those "mismatched antique" places that owners do when they dont have a clue (or more likely a budget) for real decor. Luckily, that ain't the case with the Plainfield "Belle's". I was there 8:30-ish on a Thursday, and the place was ger-JAMMED. They put me in a 6-top booth (I ain't THAT fat..). The Menu is dense, but not too bad to decipher. As I am in "no-carb" mode, the vaunted pancakes were off the twig, but I'm not a pancake guy anyway. I got scrambled eggiwegs with onions and jalapeños, the home-made sausage patties and subbed the taters, precious, with Cheese d'Cottage. The best brekky I have had in recent times was at Juicy-O's, and I must say that "Belle's" is right there. The Eggs were creamy and buttery, with just the right amount of Onion and Jalapeños-and FRESH Jalapeños at that. I don't mind the ones in escabeche when I'm sucking Coronas and pounding Tequila Shots-but in Eggs only the fresh ones will do, and they DID at Belles. The home-made sausage patties were fine fine fine. I think Juicy-O's has a very slight edge here, due to a bit more aggressive seasoning, hence the missing star. If I had never had the Juicy-O's patties, the 'Belle patties would reign. Crispy on the edges, with a sagey-porky goodness, they are head and shoulders above most every other breakfast jernt you've been to. I'd been looking for the great breakfast sausages in the sky-like I would imagine an Indiana or Iowa farm Mom/wife would make for her family. Finally found them first at juicy-O's and now here. Very good Coffee Shop coffee-not aggressive like Starbucks, which I've determined to be a solitary brew-It's the star, not great with food. Coffee shop coffee should not compete with the food, and should be benign enough to allow mulpital cups whilst sitting there shooting the sheetglass with your cronies, post-meal.The "throw" of the Diet Coke was very very good, too. It's the little things, y'know? A few folks remarked that they found my praise of the cottage cheese at Juicy-O's funny yet helpful. If a joint takes care with their cottage cheese, that bodes well for the rest of the Menu. 'Belles Cheese was fab and creamy, with a portion too large to finish. I apologize for invoking the Juicy-o name throughout this review, but that place knocked me out. To see the same fine quality in another local chain was most welcome. the Men's room was even Boy Scout (bright, clean ,and cheerful) Input and Output, both a pleasant experience here. Go there tomorrow morning.

So, mom wanted to take us out for b-fast and of course the place was a mad house. I have one note to add: please don't cheer or say "op-ah!" when the waitress drops and breaks a dish. My waitress was busting her ass to get everyone satisfied when she dropped a dish and broke something. A group of people made it more noticeable and when dishes fall and break, everyone is already looking at her. That said, back to my real review. I ordered the potato pancake country smothered in sausage gravy.... with smoked sausage, what ever. Not at all what I was thinking. Growing up in an east European neighborhood, I expect shredded potatoes with spices and fried real good. This was fried with some sort of sauce with cinnamon and chives smothered in sausage gravy. A lot of weird flavors going on all at once. The smoked sausage was dinner smoked sausage. I'm thinking it was going to be breakfast sausage. I am so confused...... Eggs over easy whites should not be runny, but I digress, this place was insane. I don't get the popularity. I will return but only if I have to.

This place is my favorite breakfast place around the Plainfield area. The food is always good, staff is always friendly, and the atmosphere is casual. They have outside seating in the summer time. The menu is also pretty big and they have all the staple breakfast items.

Well, let's start by saying this is maybe my 4th or 5th time here and it will be my last. My server asked for my order and before I finished saying country benedict, she was turned and heading to the kitchen. It took me another 5 minutes to get her back to the table to complete my order which was grits instead of hash browns and a side of crispy bacon. Grits were horrible, felt like I was drinking grits water it was so watery. The crispy bacon was burned black bacon. Lastly the benedict was barely warm.....probably because it had to wait to come out to me since the other half of the order came in late. On a good note, coffee was good. Sorry, you lost a customer.

Good place to grab brunch on the weekends. Huge portion sizes, I always end up leaving with leftovers from my farmers skillet. Prices are reasonable, especially for the portion sizes. Service is usually friendly and fast, food comes out within 20 minutes when it's busy. Unfortunately, since the place is so close to a church, when mass ends, the wait to be seated can be a little longer and bothersome.

Tried out this Southern Belles place and it was delicious and very pleasant! The greeting was prompt and warm. The waitress , Brittany, was friendly and quick with our orders. I ordered the skirt steak and eggs and it was cooked to perfection. My gf had the Denver omelette, which was huge and delicious. Bottom line nice people, nice place, and lots of food!

Just OK. They definitely have some improvements to make. My order came out wrong. Ordered a cinnamon/pecan waffle and a side of extra crispy bacon. Received a cinnamon APPLE waffle and the bacon was not at all crispy. I'm hoping that once they get the kinks out from being new that it will be a nice breakfast joint. Still like Crispy Waffle much better. **Edited after they've worked out the kinks...Love this place!

Love it! They really do have amazing food, very fresh breakfast items. Huge portions, and really creative chef with awesome yummy breakfast and lunch specials. Just had Chorizo and Cilantro eggs Benedict. Also very clean and beautiful place, you can also sit outside : )

I have been here a few times and each of those times I am disappointed about something. On one occasion my hashbrowns and toast came out burnt. The toast was black and the hashbrowns were so crispy that I couldnt eat them. I had already waited forever for my food and I had to send the potatoes back and wait some more. Second time the server was just awful. She was rude and not attentive at all. The food was just meh.. Third time my order was wrong, I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese. There was no cheese on them and the waitress forgot to bring my daughters eggs. I love the decor of the restaurant but their food is average and their waitresses suck!

This is a nice comfy spot in Plainfield. I love places where you can get breakfast or lunch because sometimes, I just don't know! I had a scrambler with tomatoes, ham and swiss cheese. It looked a little odd as it was sortof pinky red from the ingredients but it actually tasted really good. I like scramblers better than omelets, they are a bit less organized and softer on the outside. I also had an English muffin, fruit salad and coffee all of which were pretty regular but the orange juice was superb. I liked the layout, the very cold A/C, the comfortable chairs and tables plus that they left us alone and let my girlfriend and I talk. We needed privacy and space and we absolutely got both. Plus, how can I NOT like a place with a picture of Scarlett O'Hara on the wall? If you don't like that, well, to quote Rhett Butler: "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

I LOVE it here. Our food was hot and delicious and the service was incredibly professional. I adored our waitress; she clearly had so much experience. Coffee for me and juice for my beau was bought out immediately as was our order. Our waitress tilted the scales in exactly the way he needed to help him make his cinnamon roll french toast decision. Since I was in a place called Southern Belle's I thought I should have biscuits and gravy, and I was not disappointed. The biscuits were light and fluffy and the gravy had just the right amount of sausage. The cherry to the top off this experience was the atmosphere. My beau and I are an interracial couple and it was simply a non-issue at Southern Belle's. We were cheerfully greeted and incredibly pleased to see a brightly lighted and racially diverse crowd, which was a special treat for the suburbs (we live in Chicago). Thank you, Southern Belle's for a wonderful experience.

I go here pretty often, and the food is just alright. The eggs tend toward the runny side, the bacon is never crispy, even when you ask, but they do make some good skillets and the French toast is solid. The service is always very good, and the seating indoor and out are both very nice.

Southern Belle is in the top 2 for us for breakfast. Look for buy one get one free coupons in local mailings. Good service food and prices. For a detailed review read below My husband and I go to Southern Belle's Pancake House for breakfast with regularity. They have 4 locations in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. We usually go to the newest location in Plainfield IL, but there is also a Southern Belle's Pancake House in Crest Hill, Yorkville, and Bedford Park IL. Southern Belle's Pancake House is open every day from 6am to 3pm and they have traditional breakfast and lunch favorites. We have never eaten lunch there but have enjoyed everything we have tried for breakfast. We have been to the Yorkville and Plainfield Locations and both have great service. I have a few menu restrictions and we love that they let me substitute something that I can have without charging me extra. Southern Belle's Pancake House has comfortable seating with choices of booths or tables. We like to get a booth so we try to get there early so we do not have to wait. Prices are reasonable. Usually about $20 for the two of us. There are coupons in the mailers we get so if check through those envelopes of coupons you get in the mail. Coupons are usually good for one free breakfast so that is a great deal. We use one almost every time we go. Went here with my brother in law when my family was visiting. HUUUge portions and scrumptious. I ordered the Mexican skillet, and barely finished half. And the two pancakes you get? They're dinner plate-sized pancakes. Not nearly possible for someone to finish! My husband had the bananas foster french toast and ate almost every bite with his maple syrup. Even my picky 19 month old loved it!

Anytime I go into a business I expect it to be 5 stars. My expectations are not what they use to be, but this was a nice and simple 5 stars. The server Ashley was great. Polite, cheerful and on her game. The food came out quick. I had the scrumptious scrambler which was a little odd sounding at first, but tasted great. Reasonable prices and a very clean place. Kudos!

The place was very crowded on a Saturday morning, as would be expected. There was a wait, but luckily my friends got there before me and already had a table. The atmosphere is very pleasant. It's decorated very folksy-country. Pretty much just what I would want at a breakfast place. Every staff person that I came into contact with from the hostess to the server to the busboys was incredibly kind. The server was particularly patient considering how busy it was and that my table was more interested in yapping at each other than looking at the menu and making our food choices. But, eventually, we did. I had red velvet french toast. It's on the special menu, so I'm not sure if they always have it or not. But let me tell you, it was like HEAVEN in my mouth. So rich and delicious. mmmmm....my friends were also pleased with their food. It's a nice addition/change to the usual breakfast options, and I'm glad they're here!

This place was amazing. As long as you don't hit a church rush, they get you a seat within 10 minutes. The decor is old country but very open. The menu is HUGE! We all had breakfast and everything that was ordered came out in a timely fashion and was really delicious. From our table: Fresh Biscuits and Gravy Amazing Eggs Benedict

Very noisy place, even on a weekday, I think it's the acoustic of the building, I have headache all the time. The chicken soup was superb but the chicken entree was a nightmare, the fried chicken was so tough and extremely dry. The steak skirt skillet was bad too, the meat was tough and tastes bland. Our first cup of coffee was warm... Our bill was higher on what we expected. Service was fair. I won't recommend this place and I won't come back either.

This is my go to breakfast joint. They have about everything imaginable from simple scramblers to red velvet pancakes. You will likely have to wait a short period of time on the weekends but it is worth it.

The last two times we ate at Southern Belle's were perhaps two of the best breakfasts we've had - ever. Today was 'Chicken Fried Chicken' - two battered chicken breasts on top of fresh baked biscuits, with gravy - biscuits and gravey with fried chicken, can you believe it? Awesome. Poached Eggs and Hash Browns too. Pumpkin Roll French Toast - basically pumpkin cake rolled with cream cheese, sliced and cooked like 'french toast'.....served with whipped cream. Unbelievable. What a creative menu. Get there before 8am and there is no wait, and service is excellent. There outdoor seating is open now too.

We are weekly regulars here. The food is great, the service is even better. I'm a pancake snob and the pancakes are really yummy here...fluffy and moist. They always have coupons running in the val-pack mailers too which is great to snag a deal! I've never tried lunch but if its anything like their breakfast I'm sure it's delicious!

This place receives positive feedback but my party and I had an awful experience. We are not from the area, we were driving through and decided to stop in for breakfast. Hostess told us it would be 20 min. Which was fine but after 40 min we still weren't seated, everyone that arrived after us was sat immediately including a party of 8, we were 6 and are Mexican. When I addressed this, the hostess (which I never got her name, no name tag and refused to give me her name) behaved as though my complaint was not important, she was rude & condescending. I wanted to walk out and take my business somewhere else but I was over ruled by my party since we don't know the area. We were seated almost an hour after we arrived and when everyone else had been seated. I'm surprised we were asked to leave through the back. I almost gave this place two stars, only because the food was ok. The waitress meant well but she too took about 15 minutes before she came to acknowledge us. Water was not served we had to ask for it as well, the utensils were not set, we had to ask for cream for coffee, again other tables had it already. By this time the brunch people were leaving and we were basically one of the last ones there, it wasn't as if the place was super busy either. Folks let me tell you racism is Alive and well in this little eatery here. All whit folks are welcomed others need not go.

I've had breakfast here twice now and had a good experience both visits. The service is good and the breakfast food is very good. I recommend the omlettes, they are both large and tasty. I visited this place on a Fri morning and Sun morning. It was busy on the Friday and very busy on the Sun morning (20 min wait). The price is a little steep for breakfast food. If you have the time and don't mind spending a little extra, this is a good breakfast choice.

One thing for sure you don't walk way from Southern Bell still hungry. You get a tremendous food here. The atmosphere is good here with outside seating on those nice days. You can't go wrong with any of the omelets is what I usually get.

This place is awesome for breakfast and lunch. Huge portions, great food, awesome weekend specials. Cornbeef hash is excellent. The rolls that come with lunch are to die for, and the soup here is really good as well! Best breakfast joint in Plainfield I feel. Only warning is Sat/Sun AM, you will have to wait for a table.

I was not a fan. I ate breakfast here, and I found the service to be poor. It was a busy Sunday, I was told the wait was 10 minutes. We ended up seated after 20 minutes, in a table in the back corner of their banquet room. We were forgot about and waited another 10 minutes for our waitress to stop by. First , she came to offer coffee but we had no coffee cups on the table, she took our drink order but proceeded to come back twice to review it before bringing it. Then when it came out, it was wrong. We then placed our order and waited at least 30 minutes for it to come, the waitress had told us the kitchen was backed up. When the food came out, my husband's omelet was soupy in the middle. He told the waitress, and by that time we were annoyed! We told her we were not happy with our food or the service and asked to speak to the manager. She told us that the manager was busy and could not come speak to us. I ended up sharing my food with my husband. They never brought him a replacement. When we went to pay our bill at the front desk, we were asked how everything was. We were honest and stated we were not happy and again asked to speak with the manager and again they refused saying "she is just to busy!" I have never had such bad customer service anywhere! What a highly disorganized restaurant! Oh, and the floors are dirty as one other person had said! Food all over and flies in the restaurant! It's safe to say we will tell everyone we know to go elsewhere and we will never return!

This place is fantastic from the service to the food, just fantastic. We go all the time. We did once get a greek salad from here and the dressing was not remarkable. We sent it back with our comments, and to there credit they came out and talked to us about it. They went in the back and starting tasting it and I can't wait to go back and see if they fixed it. This is how you win customers. They weren't defensive, but genuinely concerned that they may not have hit the mark. I wish I could give them 10 Stars...

A nudge over three stars. Our waitress was great. Friendly and very accommodating when I asked about pecan pancakes as a substitute side along with my chicken fried steak. 5 stars. Portions: their pancakes are as large as any I've seen, being the size and thinkness of a medium sized plate. Wow. At my hungriest i could perhaps eat 3 if that's all I was eating. The other items had healthy but not extraordinary portions. But nobody at our table of 5 finished their order. 5 stars. Price: 4 stars. They seemed very low by my standards but they seemed normal for this region. Food: one of the oddest experiences I've had. At first I was hungry and the food was great. The chicken fried steak as tasty, though I was a bit worried the white gravy over it would uncrispify it, but it was not a problem. The nicely browned hash browns were very very good, being very brown but not burnt. (However I noticed others at my table had much less done hash browns... boo.) The over easy egg was at the less cooked end which was good for me. So at least 4 stars so far. Then I got full after eating 1/3 of the pancake, which was mediocre at best. Did I mention it was big?. And suddenly all the food tasted like a cheap diner. The hash browns tasted of PAM and the pancakes tasted of pancake mix. And just like that, I was done eating. 2 stars now.

I cant believe this is showing up as a 1 star at the time of my review This is the best breakfast spot in Plainfield, and my service was phenomenal. I ordered the time southern belle's ommelette with hash browns and sourdough toast. My food was up in 8 minutes and that was with a full restaurant (there was a 2 minute wait for a table when i arrived). The coffee was at just the right temp, hot but not so hot it burned my mouth. The cup never was more than half empty without getting topped off. I always enjoy doing a Saturday or Sunday morning (or early afternoon) here and that will be the case as long as i live here. The spinach and feta is a fav but i had to switch it up today and try something new. Teresa was my server this time and She was even better than the rest

Just went to Southern Belles in Plainfield. Had a HORRIBLE experience w/customer service. Eggs were not done how I asked, which normally I wouldn't complain, but seeing as its the 2nd time, I thought I'd talk to the mgr. The manager told the server that she was TOO BUSY to come talk to us!!!! So then we told them we wanted it taken off the bill, manager would only take off 20% of just that meal. NEVER have we been to a restaurant where a Mgr was TOO BUSY to come to the table when asked!!!! We will definitely be calling the owner. (Oh yeah & our server told us that "all the employees were at a wedding the night before, so there will probably be a lot of mistakes today because they were all out til 4am" We will NEVER return and I will tell all our neighbors and friends what bad customer service they have!! We have been there in the past (total of 4x) First 2 times were great! Last 2, bad! Have heard of friends bad experiences lately too. Too bad because i did like this place. We will be calling the owner to let him know of the bad service of the Mgr... hopefully he will do the right thing to make it better... we'll see

Food wasn't good, Pancakes tasted like "shake & pour", hash browns were frozen store bought, omlettes were bland. And to seal the deal wife found an object in her food, chef blamed it on the frozen hash browns package...and we were still expected to pay for the entree she had them take away and not replace...wtf

This review is not for breakfast, which I think is amazing, but for their party dinner. We had my wedding shower here recently and while the place is cute and I got lots of awesome things, well, yikes for everything else. The food. Yuck. They served beef, which was tough and for some nasty reason seasoned with cinnamon. I'm not joking, almost all of my guests agreed that the surprising and disturbing sweet taste was cinnamon and sugar. I think they were confused and thought the beef was a pancake. The pasta tasted like they kidnapped Chef Boyardee (which I actually am embarrassed to admit I like, but there is a time and place for a 99c can of pasta) and the chicken was greasy and dry at they same time, which takes some talent. The pieces they brought out were so small with almost no meat on them. Where is the genetically enhanced chicken that is like 5 times the size of a normal one? Unless you tell me it's organic and has a reason for being small I want to be able to eat something off of it. The staff. Ugh. The staff. So, before the shower started this big creepy guy was lurking in the shadows taking pictures of everything and I thought maybe someones husband didn't quite get that a shower is for women. After asking a waiter we found out he was the owner. I feel like any normal restaurant owner would introduce himself and, I don't know, maybe say thanks for spending a few hundred to have your shower here over the 183847 other places in this area. The waiter was nice enough, but there was only one for about 40 people, which meant that everyone's glass was always empty and by the time the second table got served, the first was completely done eating. Desert was ice cream, which was not in scoops, but a frozen pool. It was like they scooped out 40 bowls of ice cream earlier, let it sit out 'till it melted, and then put it in the freezer again. How can you mess up ice cream!? The manager who we booked the party with was rude and looked mad the entire night, and although I thanked her a few times because I'm a nice person she never once thanked us for coming. My mom can be kind of a Momzilla about all this wedding stuff, but just deal with it we are paying you a lot for this! I got the vibe that this was a chore and every moment was like death for her. I promise I'm almost done. The final complaints: We were told there'd be a vegetarian option for soup, which there was none and they looked at me like a crazy person when I asked. We were also told we'd get the extra food to take home to the manly men, but they never brought it out and when my mom finally asked, the manager seemed REALLY annoyed and said there might be a little left. Then she brought out kind of a lot of food which left me wondering why they were so grumpy about giving it to us and what they were planning on doing with all the extra? Maybe they were planning on feeding their families with the food we paid for. I don't know. It was weird. Moral of the Story - Stick to what you're good at Southern Belles. Even though I love their breakfast after the way things went down for the shower I don't think I'll be back, even if their pancakes are amazing. Wish we'd gone to Portillos instead.

Pros -New, brighter decor after the lightening fire to the roof -Great coffee Cons -Larry's Diner across the street is more old school and has more personality. More unique to Plainfield -I had the blueberry waffle and the portion size was a bit small -Can get quite busy and there isn't big waiting area Southern Belle is good, but I expected more. The staff is friendly and the food is better than average... There's 4 other Southern Belle locations that are privately owned in the area. The prices are reasonable. In sum, I prefer Southern Belles to IHOP, but not over Larry's Diner across the street. PS- it looks like they're working on a nice outdoor seating area. I'll have to try that out in the future and do an update.

Glad to see another breakfast place in Plainfield, we went to Southern Belles right after they first opened. Our first experience was pretty bad, overall, but we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt since they were new, and tried them again today. It was, in a word, DISGUSTING. We noticed right away when we went in how dirty the place looked. There was food and trash all over the floor all around the dining room. Ignoring the visual cue, we went ahead and ordered breakfast. We both had eggs and hash-browns. One of us ordered pancakes and the other toast. The eggs were a little undercooked and, the hash-browns were more "hash-blacks". They were literally burned black on top, and when I saw them, I wondered why someone would even serve that to us. We sent those back, and the replacements that came out were plain "hash-whites". There weren't even browned at all. The toast was literally just bread. There was a slight bit of browning along one edge, but the rest looked like it had never seen the inside of a toaster. Sent that back as well, and got an acceptable replacement. The pancakes were doughy and pretty much inedible. (They taste like they are made with year-old bisquick or something.) Frankly, the coffee almost gags me. I don't think they are filtering the water, and it has the now almost-famous chlorine flavor of Plainfield tap water. Neither of us drank it. Ultimately, we spent almost $18.00 for totally inedible food, and a very unpleasant experience. We will never go back.

Food good, service is AWFUL! If u make suggestion (like about the constant busboys banging dishes & creating a non peaceful environment) they make excuses & tell you they have sympathy for them come onnnnnnn! Too bad because this place cute but way overpriced 4 loud enviornmebt & tasteless waitresses that definitely lack personality & also I had half hour wait that I didn't mind much until I was told someone else took my seat. Supposedly they called my name & someone else said they were me & the lady never bothered to apologise either....bottom line southern bell does not have that down home southern touch! It's blahhh

Finally, a great place that's not Nick's Cozy Corner (which is where my parents typically drag me to when I'm in town). I got the Irishman's skillet, and it was supurb. I'm also a fan of having pancakes be a side option in addition to toast.

We have eaten here about five-six times since they have opened. The decor is lovely! The food is pretty good . Wait staff is attentive. Would love to see an independent restaurant survive and thrive. So, here are some suggestion: have better coffee, make sure front staff greets people when they walk in, clean the floors. When we mentioned how dirty the floors were and that there was a large amount of water by our table that you could trip on, to the hostess (there was actual trash all over and many workers standing around doing nothing) her reply was "we clean the floor at night"! Wow! Makes me wonder about the kitchen when the front looks like that!
