Favorite lunch spot in Peoria. Salmon BLT is amazing. Gouda Pizza is fairly incredible too. Love their frosted oatmeal cookies. They have free wifi, which is needed because you won't get a cell signal here. The funky decor makes this one of the more charming places in Peoria. Come on the weekend for live music.

Neat spot Dropped in for lunch. Was able to get right in and order without delay. The building is interesting as is the decor- not a cookie cutter chain restaurant. The food offerings were great - with varied choices and great flavor. My only drawback was the value- I expected a $10 salad to be of good size but it was quite modest. A small, well seasoned chicken breast sitting atop a small amount of iceberg lettuce- a few veggies and a few apple slices was all the $10 bought for the "Brazilian Chicken Salad". Flavor was great- but I left hungry

This is definitely one of our favorite downtown Peoria restaurants! It is fun and welcoming with warm friendly staff and gives you the feeling you are entering someone's home. The menu selections always remind me of home cooking. I also love that the kitchen is in full view of the seating. Delicious homemade desserts line the countertop as if you were in your grandmothers kitchen! Last night my husband decided on a pulled pork sandwich that he said was delicious. I chose the Catfish court bouillon and was very pleased! It was a flavorful, with just the right amount of spices and served with a slice of french bread. It was so filling I had no room to sample one of the desserts. Besides the great menu it's a fun place to hang out and listen to music. Five stars for sure!

We were excited to check this place out based on the reviews. It is a very cool place and has a great vibe. But its crowded and the food is just so-so. Maybe its what we ordered (chicken tortilla casserole and Caribbean pizza), but it was nothing to rush back for. The hostess was great, very fun and friendly.

Was there on Friday night and sat at the bar to have dinner. They were training a new bartender so she wasn't quite up to speed yet, but she was attentive. Good live music playing, and not overly loud so you can eat and still chat with someone. Had one of their small pizzas, it was small but good. Lively atmosphere. I would head back again.

Best Creole dishes I have found outside of NOLA. I love this place! Had the gumbo and shrimp yesterday and both dishes were amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere just adds to an already great experience. I'd recommend to anyone with a pulse.

This is my kinda place. Chandeliers of patron bottles, live music, and old ladies dancing. The whole vibe was just so cool and such an eclectic group of people there. It was a bit crowded, but well worth it. Service was fantastic, very nice people working there. Being the wino I am, I appreciated the hefty pours they offered. I cannot remember the name of the band, but they were so cool, jazz flute and all. They played some modern covers and Latin jazz. I could have chilled there all night, I cannot wait to go back. Thinking I may try dinner there sometime soon!

Delicious special on the menu, orange ginger turkey meatloaf. Fun place, friendly wait staff. First time here, I would come to Peoria just to come back again. Good music, good sound in the place. Nice selection of beers and other libations.

Excellent! Interesting place with nice service and amazing food. We were passing through Peoria and stopped here for lunch ... what at gem! Both meals (Chicken & Sausage Gumbo and Curried Sweet Potato, Lentil & Spinach Stew) were fantastic. The desert (Cherry Almond Crumble with Ice Cream) was even better. Highly recommended!

I took my wife to Rhythm Kitchen for her birthday this weekend. The food was ok. To us the selling point for coming to this restaurant is the service and the restaurant's atmosphere. It's just a cool place to hang out with a glass of wine and an appetizer.

Honestly not was I was expecting. Cool atmosphere but the service wasn't great, the seating was very cramped, and the food was just okay. I was really hoping for more from the experience . The hostess was very friendly though !

This is a great place,we got great service from a young guy . My sister and me (European women)we where looking for some small to eat so we stopped in and looked at the menu and we where not hungry enough to eat a plate each so we ask if we could share a plate and he said not a problem with a friendly smile ,he even separated it to two plates we had a warm Chicken sandwich with Potato salad it was out of this place . We tipped well ,ty again for the great service. Oh the place is very clean and very well decorated ,give it a try . If I am back in peoria area I will be stopping by again.

Several locals strongly recommended, so we stopped in early on a Saturday evening and got a table right away - it was just starting to get busy. There were a number of interesting specials on the board, our waitress described enthusiastically and when she didn't have a full answer, got the chef or owner,or manager, not sure who, who provided additional info. We both ordered one of the stew specials, and they were of course prepared already, we didn't wait for more than a couple of minutes after ordering. Food was quite adequate, very good- but the portions were really quite small, each in a bowl, and really not even a half bowl- note this were full priced entrees ($12-$16), and don't include salad etc. So while it seemed like a lively friendly place, for value I would have to give Rhythm a low rating. But just one visit so we'll give it another try.

Great food. Wonderful decor and great jazz music. Very cozy place. Had a rehearsal dinner their, all are still raving about the food. Has 2 nice private rooms to rent in the back. Great for parties. Will keep coming back

Had a shrimp creole and a s'more brownie for dessert. The portion was perfect for someone who is constantly overwhelmed by American restaurant portions. None of it went to waste. It was hearty with just enough spice to be flavorful. The s'more brownie was sinfully delicious and I still dream about it. A man was playing quiet pleasant music on the acoustic guitar. It was v nice atmosphere.

Great! We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night and had a blast. Lots to look at on the walls as we waited, plus the live musicians warming up nearby. We didn't get to stay for the concert because we had an infant with us, but definitely looked like it would be fun. Food was tasty and fairly priced at about $10 a plate. I had some killer meatloaf that I'd definitely recommend.

I'm never disappointed when I go to The Rhythm Kitchen. Folks are friendly, the menu options are interesting, the food is wonderful, and the decor is unique. Crab cakes= 2 thumbs up!

The restaurant is in the ground floor of a warehouse building on Peoria's riverfront. They have live music nearly every night. The staff is friendly. The food trends toward healthy eating with several good options for vegetarians. There is also a full bar. Things get very busy on the weekends.

Rhythm Kitchen on the riverfront in downtown Peoria is one of our favorite places to go for live music and good food. It has one of the best atmospheres in Peoria, especially on Friday and Saturday nights in the summer. The food is several steps above the typical "bar food" with a great selection of menu choices. The wait staff is great and always friendly as well. It gets crowded but is worth the effort to go to.

To start - based on food quality I'd give this place 2.5 stars. I wish that were an option. I gave it three because the hostess and waitress were very nice. I ordered Jerk Chicken. I was told that if I liked spicy than this was the way to go. I was lied too. Perhaps by Peoria standards this was spicy... but no because I ate Jerk Chicken sliders at my hotel later (I know I'm a weirdo) and they were much spicier. The chicken was bland and that's all there is to it. It was prepared well. It wasn't disgusting. It was just really boring. I ate the other sides it came with such as rice, beans, steamed veggies and it was all just okay. Nothing exceptional. Someone I was with ordered the meatloaf (which was apparently a highly recommended menu item) and I had a couple bites but again nothing special. I'm disappointed to learn of the gumbo which I guess people liked. I didn't see gumbo or anything that actually screamed creole on the menu. If I did I would've ordered it. I can't explain why it wasn't brought to my attention but it wasn't.

I've been here for lunch many times and always have had great service and great food. Some of my favorites include the salmon BLT, tomato-basil soup and the Sausage-Gouda Mushroom pizza (occasional special). Although co-workers have ordered the meatloaf sandwich and it looked devine as well. Occasionally I'll splurge and order something off of their dessert menu, which is all made from scratch. I've also been here once on a Friday night during an open-mic event. It does get loud and service is slower, so it's something to take into consideration. We didn't mind the music, though, and had a great time! I'll always recommend Rhythm Kitchen to someone from out of town if they want something unique, reasonably priced and casual.

Also, not a real "cafe", the hours aren't constant and I don't think they even serve coffee. But, it's a cool little place for catching live acts and good vegan pizza. Other than the vegan pizza there isn't really vegan food. :-( The owner is really friendly and I know of people who play here. The atmosphere is another one that I"m not sure if I like. I feels like my unfinished basement we had one I was a kid. It's cool as a venue, but not so much as a restaurant. I really don't want to look at old rummage sale dolls and vintage art work while I'm eating.

I'd been wanting to go here for ages and I really enjoyed it. The food was delicious - I had the Spicy Mexican Chicken Salad. You have to wait a bit longer for the food because it's made to order (a plus if you ask me) but my kids were entertained looking at all the sparkling lights, murals, and pictures on the walls. I haven't been for dinner when they have live music, but the next time I'm in Peoria, I plan on going back. Definitely a great spot for a date night or going out with the ladies.

as a vegetarian, i was super grateful for this place during my 2-week stay in peoria. most restaurants here are not very veg-friendly, and this place has a whole vegetarian section of the menu! another reviewer mentioned that they didn't have "vegan food", but i ate here 3 times and ate vegan every time... and they do have coffee! this definitely stands out from the other restaurants in town. being from new york, this was much more my kind of place than the rest of the chains and bar food you find downtown. there is actual healthy food! and atmosphere! rare find in peoria... we came in with a big group one night and they were awesome about seating us and giving us separate checks. all the staff was super friendly. the food was not over the top amazing. but always solid. everyone in my group was happy with what they got. and the chef was really nice about menu substitutions. overall i would definitely recommend it!

Homemade style food a great live music. They also have a nice bar with lots of drink options and a huge selection of beers. There has always been live music when I've been there and they book jazz and blues for the most part. Right downtown Peoria on Water Street which is a unique old part of town on the Illinois River. Walking distance to lots of other stuff including the new Museum, Riverfront Festivels, Martini's, Rhodell's, and the rivewalk area.

Good little hidden gem on the Riverfront in Peoria. I've never been there for dinner (when they have live music), but lunch is good. Food is unpretentious but creative and they've got everything from good breakfast to dinner entrees. My wife had the stuffed French Toast today and loved it. My portobello sandwich was ok, not great, but anywhere you can have a good microbrew with lunch can't be all bad.
(3)Kevin K.
The Seafood Skewer is good, staff great, nice atmosphere, and excellent desserts. I had the Nutty Coconut Peach Cobbler. Wow, that was great!
(4)Amy S.
I'm visiting from out of town. It was a cool spot close to the river to grab dinner and some drinks. It was open mic night which was fun. The sweet and sour turkey meatloaf was tasty and creative. Side salad nice and light. I wasn't a fan of their red beans and rice, not enough flavor. Would be a great place to hang with friends.

I was hoping to find my go-to spot in Peoria - a nice reprieve of hip ambiance, live music and healthy unique food. Sadly only one and a half came true. Ambiance was fun and I could see the bar as a nice spot for a drink but the music was only so-so and overblown for the small space and the food was outright terrible. To start we did veggies with hummus and feta dip - hummus was inedible (and I'm not even picky) and the 'feta' dip was sour cream. We both got fish, neither one impressive although the catfish wasn't touched due to it's fishy nature. Veggies were overcooked and rice had not one spice, bland was and understatement.

Finally got to the Rhythm Kitchen after a year in Peoria. We just had drinks, but the live music was great and the drinks got us dancing.
(4)Holly L.
I went here on a Saturday night. It was really crowded and the music was really loud. The band played covers for "I'm all shuck up," "How long (has this been going on)," and various motown hits that I couldn't identify. They seemed to only play lame pop hits from 30 years ago. The food and drink prices were very high. There's no cover. The only up side was there was no kids. My suggestion is to stand in the buildings lobby and decide if they music is something you really want to hear before you go in an pay 10$ for two drinks like I did.

Peoria is one of my favorite towns in America and the reason is that even though it's a small town, it has great places that are unique like the Rhythm Kitchen. It's cool to be able to hear live music and eat good food in a relaxed and eclectic setting. The seafood skewer is excellent and the staff is always fantastic. Negro Modelo and Becks Dark are a couple of my favorite beers and difficult to find....this place has both of them. It is a great experience and one I highly recommend if you like music and a little something different. I've had a lot of fun nights at this place.

I really, really wanted to love Rhythm Kitchen. Live music, healthy menu, and a good beer list? Sadly, Rhythm Kitchen did not deliver. We started out with vegetables crudite with hummus and a feta dip. The veggies came out and the celery was brown and gross. I couldn't believe they'd serve something yucky like that - the other veggies were fine, they could've just added more of the others. I ordered tortilla encrusted tilapia. It came out and I went to cut off a bite. Tilapia usually flakes right off with your fork, but this didn't. It was rubbery and cold - they hadn't finished cooking it! I sent it back, which I almost never do. 20 minutes later, I got a replacement. This one was done correctly, but it just wasn't that good - it tasted like the frozen version that I get from Market Day. I left feeling hungry and unsatisfied. The service was ok and the music was really good - I'd go back to listen to the band, but I'd probably get dinner somewhere else.

A group of friends from St. Louis and Chicago met "in the middle" to visit and play Mah Jongg on Saturday. We were treated like royalty, even though the restaurant was busy with Market visitors. Very fun music, great food and Steph, the chef/wait person, was absolutely wonderful, and accommodating to the quirks of our little adventure troupe. We plan to visit again!

Stopped in on a Thursday night. They had live music (jazz type). I'm not a big jazz fan, but I thought the atmosphere in this place was perfect. Older building that was left with the classic look, but that works for me. The bartender was excellent and the waitress was also a step above the rest. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five was that the food wasn't anything special. We got the swordfish and the jerk chicken. They weren't bad, but I probably wouldn't order again. Still, I recommend checking this place out......I know I will go again!

This place has been a favorite of ours for the last several years, but we left being very disappointed after a recent visit. The "special" board listed a stufffed pork chop, which sounded good to both my husband and me. After being seated, we noticed that the pork chop had been crossed off the board. The remaining special were mahi mahi, swordfish, tilapia, salmon and shrimp creole. Do we see a pattern here? It was only 6:30 on a Friday evening and they were already out of the only nonseafood entree! We decided to just have sandwiches. My husband ordered the burger. The waitress told him it came with garlic mashed potatoes. She offered chips instead, which he ordered. I opted for the salmon BLT. When our food was delivered, his very plain burger on a regular bun came with a bag of chips on the plate for $11. My sandwich was actually good, but came with the mashed potatoes on the side. When I complained, I was offered red beans and rice, which I took. They were also a very disappointing side. Overcooked, dry and tasteless-served luke warm, like it had been in a crockpot too long. The place was very busy. I had to wonder what everyone was eating. The owner was out and about, helping deliver dishes. Perhaps she needs to be back in the kitchen, doing quality control, like she used to do when the food was good. Don't think we'll be back!

This is a consistently great place to eat. Our favorites are: the tortilla crusted tilapia and grilled cheese! If you have a hankering in for soup and a sandwich definitely check this place out.
(5)Joe M.
Best meatloaf I've had in a long time. Red beans and rice,... YUM!! salad served on a hot plate spilling dressing onto my prized meatloaf and sacred red beans and rice, while warming the lettuce leaves,... not so great. That is literally the only complaint. Bar was great. Cocktail list is not only extensive, but very educational, and I really appreciate that. Thanks for a lovely night away from my family.
(4)Ron R.
Awesome food! The best in live entertainment! Food with flavor and variety for everyone, staff is very friendly, fun place to be!!!
(5)Geoff N.
Good atmosphere and music. Food was alright, though it kinda felt hit or miss- not every one of the dishes my party ate were consistently good. The combo of the two (foot+ambience) is what I liked best. RK is a neat place in Peoria to hangout, eat and just enjoy the experience.
(4)Michael H.
So, it's alright. I dig the spirit. I'm assuming the place was developed by a forty-something white person that somewhere in the mid-90s decided that they were spiritually descended from Stevie Nicks and deserved to open a "blues" palace where middle-aged white people that worked corporate jobs could really identify with the exploitation and sorrow of the black experience of agrarian oppression. The swaying "blues moms" emulating Bonnie Raitt, empowered by their fantasy of sexy, throat-gurgling raspiness for one night only before returning to their accountanship of the PTA budget, will dominate your experience as you down an above-average California pizza to a sound-drenched backdrop of feigned blues longing. Be forwarned: everywhere you look, there will be cul-de-sac denizens from the white bourgeoisie who have made the "heroic" trek down to the gentrified waterfront to indulge in some "nightlife." The penetrating waft of old spice will slay you as you try to imagine what this quaint get up COULD BE should Peoria spontaneously develop a thoughtful culture of food appreciation and an understanding of the history that the water street area represents. The food's pretty good. My only complaint is the absolute hegemony of chicken on the menu. The same chicken dish disguised in myriad distinct cultural ways. Secondly (so i guess i have a second complaint) they offer "specials" which so far exceed the prices of the menu as to make them real stretches. To give one example, I could get a really good meatloaf plate with sides for around 8 bucks off the menu or a tilapia dish (the cheapest of fish next to catfish) for around 18 bucks. Silly. They need to think their "specials" through more deliberately. Other than these minor crits, I've had fun every time I've gone here, even if it's of an irony sort. I love supporting local businesses and this one, however flawed, is at least on the right track.
