Pita’s Mediterranean Wraps Menu

Pita's specializes in Mediterranean food and wrapped sandwiches with an American twist. Try it, you'll like it! I think the reason you don't hear about this place is that Peorians are obsessed with chain restaurants and are resistant to something new. But vegetarians will love Pita's, and there's something here for everyone. I have been here three times, and have always had a great experience. The most recent time, I ordered 12 pieces of falafel w/a side of Tahini sauce. The falafel was crispy on the outside, but soft and kind of sweet in the inside. Tasted a little bit like a hush puppy, an interesting take. The sauce was nice and garlicky. My buddies ordered a veggie shwarama, and a spicy gyro wrap. They marinate the gyro meat in like a buffalo wing sauce, and top it with all the fixings: lettuce, tomato, onion, tzatziki cucumber sauce- and for only $3 more, you can make anything a combo with fresh-cut fries and a fountain drink. The fries reminded me a little of In-N-Out's fries- soft, but delicious. AND, if that wasn't enough, they have soft serve ice cream with 32 different flavors ranging from Amaretto, to Cheesecake, to Cherry Chocolate, and on and on. The family that works there is awesome, and they take care of me very well! A Must- Try in Peoria!!

The food at Pita's is nothing short of savory. The owner is delightful and takes pride and joy in her delicacies. I am eagerly anticipating my next visit!

Up front confession: I'm addicted to Pita's. I used to go to Qdoba on a very regular basis. No more. Now it's Pita's for me. Rose and the ladies who work there are wonderful. The magic that happens in the kitchen is fantastic. The fries are addicting. I've loved everything I've ordered there. Peorians, in a world of chain restaurants and cookie cutter wannabes, support your local restaurants! The hummus rocks, the pitas are hot out of the oven. Huge selection, great food.

I love the falafel and homemade pita. The kibbe was also great. The owner was experimenting with a new pita recipe with flax and bran. She brought one hot from the oven to sample. Excellent!

I've only been here previously for lunch. This time we stopped in for dinner and the lady working was very nice and helpful. We ordered pita with hummus, and the soft bread was delivered steaming hot to our table with one of them puffed up like a balloon. Yum-o! We had enough for leftovers the next morning. The tomato basil pizza was fine, but I do need to venture in to trying more of the ethic dishes next time.

The food here is wonderful. The gals who run the place are friendly. I love the baked kibby. The cabbage rolls are great too and the shawarma and the gyros. The pitas are made at the restaurant. Lebanese women make pitas not tortillas.

Visiting a friend in Peoria, of course I Yelped trying to look for a good place to eat and when I saw this place with almost full 5 stars I had to try it! I mean the pictures provided by previous yelpers were too appealing but I say what the heck? I find hole in the wall in Jersey/NY that turned out delicious all the time. Boy, do I regret my decision: Walking in, it looked like a run down pizza joint. You would never have known that it's a Mediterranean restaurant. I just thought that's how the Midwest was so I didn't think too much of it. I was the only one there so I picked up a menu to browse which btw was printed from a printer running out of ink because I couldn't see half the stuff on the menu. Smh. While I was waiting a lady came in to pick up her order, I kept looking because I didn't know what I wanted. So she chatted with the lady working behind the counter. After about good 5-10minutes waiting for them to finish their conversation, I ordered a spicy beef gyro and some falafels then before she swiped my card I added some baklavas. The food was ready pretty quickly and the lady was friendly so no complaints there. My problem was the food. I mean I'm no Mediterranean food expert but I have been to a few Mediterranean restaurant to know what's good or not. So I got home with my food all excited. I opened the brown bag and took out what looks like a footlong. In my opinion, it looked more like a wrap than a gyro. It tasted ok; nothing special. I suspect frozen meat but I digress. The falafel was even worse. They wear hard as a rock. When I bit into them, they crumbled like a ball of dried mud. I only ate half of the "gyro" and 2/3 of the falafels. I finished them the next day and they actually tasted better after some microwaving. Also, I need to mention the baklava tasted weird. It was dry and crumbly not the sticky, moist that I'm used to. All in all, I was really disappointed especially because I'm still confused where the 4.5stars rating came from?? Is it because people from Midwest never had Mediterranean food? Are their palate just different from mine? Seeing that I won't be back in the Midwest anytime soon, I don't think I'll be returning to this place ever. Sorry. I gave 1 extra star because the service was pretty quick and friendly.

This is still my favorite Mediterranean restaurant. They have a great meat and wrap selection (including vegetarian), great hummus and baba! The bread is homemade in their brick oven, can't get any better. Since they took over ownership, the prices have stabilized and the entrées and sandwiches are consistently delicious.

The spicy chicken wrap and spinach pie are excellent. Their grape leaves are excellent.

Love this place. Good value for money. All the food is fresh and home made! I recommend the shawarma, and instead of fries, I get the 3 piece falafel.

We visited Pitas wanting Mediterranean food. I order the large gyro. To start the bread is made fresh to order. The gyro meat is not your standard gyro meat from the run of the mill gyro shop. It was a much more delicious flavor. My wife ordered falafel with hummus. We were not disappointed. The hummus was the best I've had. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of five was that it was greasy food otherwise the flavor was great.

Tried Pita's for the first time today. Ordered spicy Gyro and Lamb Pie. Summary: I probably wouldn't get the lamb pie again. Spicy Gyro was superb. I'm not acquainted well enough with the Mediterranean cuisine to know if what I enjoyed was true to the culture - I just know it was very enjoyable. The restaurant seems pretty simple and orderly, no frills but nice, the owner took and brought out my order and she was very pleasant. Details on the food: The lamb pie was just too dry and simple for my tastes and not a lot there for the price. Spicy Gyro was noticeably different (and better) from the typical Gyros I've had. My typical memory of a Gyro is a fairly chewy flatbread loaded with lots of Gyro meat and topped with some onions and tahini sauce. Usually decent but overwhelming with the meat and bread. This was different. It resembles a burrito, and the lightweight bread was a welcome change. The amount of meat was ample but not overdone. There was a decent amount of tahini and the pickled jalepenos and other vegetables had a very balanced texture and flavor combination with a decent kick.

The food was good, came in large portion and it was reasonably priced. I will be visiting again.

My inner pessimist is kicking me for awarding five stars to a place I've only visited once, but I can't help it. I can't believe my husband has known about this place for years and JUST TOOK ME THERE TODAY FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. What the hell, husband? ANYWAY. So good! Fluffy, warm, delicious fresh-made pita. Crispy, flavorful falafel. Creamy, pungent hummus. I didn't taste the gyro, but my husband loved his. The prices aren't crazy cheap, but the portions are HUGE, so it's a great value. The only thing that sucks about this place is that it's, like, practically in Chillicothe. But worth it. I will be back.

I have to admit I'm no connoisseur of Mediterranean food and I've only visited one time, but I fail to see what the rave reviews are about. I ordered the spicy Gyro, and it was tasty, but unlike any other Gyro I've ever had Was it better? Can't say it was, just different. I'm accustomed to having Gyros with the Gyro meat -- a mixture of spiced lamb and beef I believe being shaved off a rotating spit. Didn't see that here. And the pita bread is usually about 6-7 inches in diameter and warmed on the grill, before being slathered with cucumber/yogurt sauce, the aforementioned meat, and a few slices of tomato and lots of onions. These Gyros weren't like that at all, I have to agree with Kate F that that the pita seemed more like a tortilla wrap, although I didn't find that really offensive, just not what I expected. And I don't know - perhaps this is really authentic and my idea of Gyros is Americanized, I don't know enough to say who's right. Anyway, it was good, but different and not exactly what I was craving. I also had the lamb pie and wasn't very impressed - it's fairly small but I wasn't expecting much for 2 bucks, kind of like a stuffed baked crescent roll with some ground lamb inside. I guess I'll have to try those other items folks are raving about if I ever make it back.

La la la! This place made me want to sing. So cute, quaint, homey with first-rate food. I actually made a point of going up to the woman working the register before we left to tell her that her baba ganoush was -- no question -- the best I have EVER had. ... I'm not sure that actually impressed her (or whether it should), but I meant it wholeheartedly. On that note, the pita was equally incredible. This is going to start to sound disingenuous, but seriously. Best. Ever. So good warm that I wanted to gobble it up in two seconds, but our leftovers (wrapped only in a brown bag) still tasted pretty good the next day. I'm usually hesitant to order felafel as it's liable to be over-salted, over-parsley'd, etc, but here, I was totally satisfied with my choice. The outside is very, very crunchy, so you have to be prepared to really bite into it. The inside was a little bit more gooey or bready than what I'm used to, but ultimately, I decided I quite liked the blend and the texture it produced. The hummus was solid but plain, save some paprika, so don't expect anything crazy that you find in the grocery store these days, you know, the sun-dried tomato bit and all that. The only so-so was the gyro -- or at least I think that's what my husband had. I think he just was so blown away by the baba that he didn't want to eat his. :)

I've eaten here for a number of years and I love it. Totally addicted to the garlic chicken wrap. Wonderful people run the place. The pittas are fresh out of the oven and are fantastic. This has become our go-to place over any of the usual chain restaurants.

While its on the other side of town, I will go there first if I'm craving a gyro. They are HUGE!!! So good. Different that other gyros because of the wraps. It's a must try!!!

Absolutely delicious! I had the Shawarma. The pita bread was warm and tender. The meat was seasoned perfectly, as was the tahini sauce. Regular size is a very generous portion. My plan was to split this with my husband, but I didn't get out of the parking lot without finishing it. I am looking forward to going back to try the falafel, lamb, chicken, kibbe...

Pretty disappointed in the Yelp reviews. No way this place is 4 stars. I am a big Gyro fan and have had Gyro's all over the country. I've had good and bad. This place is less than average. The portion size isn't bad however the wrap is thin and dry. The Gyro meat is really bland without any spice at all. The fries were not bad, I don't recommend the humus either. I wanted to love this place since I'm new to the area but have to be honest. 2 stars!

WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING? I'm only giving Pita's Mediterranean 1 star because I technically cannot give it a lower score!!!! I am embaressed to say that I was actually looking forward to trying this place out based on previous reviews. DON'T LISTEN TO THOSE PEOPLE IF YOU KNOW WHAT REAL MEDITERRANEAN FOOD IS!!! The only reason anybody would like this place is because they are on drugs or because they have never tasted real mediterranean food before!!!! I PROMISE YOU!!! I am so pissed at myself for wasting my money here. My boyfriend wanted to leave before we ordered and I just urged him to try it. The beef shwarma is NOT shwarma AT ALL. It was like fajita meat. The chicken shwarma is chopped up chicken. NOT SHWARMA. The pita wasn't even a real pita. It was more like a tortilla. Also, WHO PUTS lettuce and pickle with shwarma? AND the falafels were nasty!!! I spent almost $10 and took 3 bites NO JOKE. I was offended that they even called the food "shwarma" "pita" "mediterranean" . Please don't waste your money here. Nothing was good about this place. I cannot stress this to you enough! It was the worst choice I have made in a long time. Please trust me. Don't say I didn't warn you.....

I have been here twice and I have not been disappointed either time. I ordered the veggie shawarma and the Greek salad, and both were fresh and delicious. It is true that the sandwich pita is more like a tortilla, but this doesn't bother me at all. The pitas are delicious and fresh-tasting. You can tell they were made in house that day. I also ordered the falafel on one occasion, and it was delicious as well. This place has a wide assortment of vegetarian options, which I greatly appreciate. I will come here again and again. The price is a bit higher than what you might expect, but the pitas are large and I always have enough for leftovers the next day. Recommended!

We had the veggie combo, lamb pie, chicken shwarma, tabouli, and baklava. I was very pleased with most of the food. The baba ghanoush was out of this world! We actually ordered one to go. I loved the chicken shwarma wrap and the tabouli was pretty good too (I'm not a fan of tabouli). My brother enjoyed the lamb pie. The only thing we didn't care for was the hummus. I wouldn't order it again. The prices seem a bit high but the portions were nice and the quality of the food I enjoyed was well worth 5 stars.

My husband and I eat a lot of Mediterranean food, so we were excited to happen upon this little shop tucked away in an otherwise unexciting shopping center on the outskirts of town. We came around noon, and the place was packed to capacity with office-types on lunch. Despite a long line, we were served quickly and the food was fantastic. The portions were huge, especially the combos, which came with about two big handfuls of seasoned fries. The special that day was stuffed grape leaves- my favorite!- so we ordered a plate of them. I remember thinking the price seemed a little high, but when they came out, I saw why... it was enough for 4-5 adults to have as an appetizer. My kids each had a pizza (not exactly gourmands yet), which they liked. Unlike most restaurants where they get a pizza, this was NOT a Mama Celeste from the back freezer- it was a freshly made pizza on pita. As a final testament to how great this place is, I will tell you that my husband came here for dinner WHILE I WAS IN LABOR at the hospital. Me: "I thought you were just going to get a hamburger or something!" Him: "Yeah, but... this place was nearby, and I reeeeaaaaaallllyyyy wanted a gyro." Enough said.

I had the large shawarma and it was awesome. The large is definitely big enough for my appetite. They put tahini on it and it has some pickle inside. It came out very hot and delicious. They are super friendly too. I must try to appetizers next time.

As far as gyros go in Peoria this is my favorite BY FAR! The wraps are huge and very delicious. I usually go for the traditional gyro but friends have had the chicken and loved it as well. I've also had the falafels once and found them a little over-fried but still tasty. I also love the fresh-cut fries. The serving size of these is also huge so I often split it with my hubby or a friend. Last weekend we also ordered a side of pita bread and hummus. The pita bread is what has me coming back again and again. So fresh and warm!

The Gyro will rock your world. Period. The flat bread is made fresh daily and made specifically for your wrap. It is warm, chewy, and delicious. The gyro meat has a wonderful flavor and the staff is delightful. If you want to try the best gyro in Peoria make sure you stop by here. It is a bit expensive for fries and a gyro but it is worth it. (Between 2 people you should be able to split a large.)

Try the falafel. It was crunchy on the outside, a little soft in the middle, and came with delicious tahini sauce. Falafel is easy to mess-up, but this place got it right. And the woman working there was very nice. I will definitely go back there.

Lamb Kabob was amazing! I would highly recommend this place. A gem of a place hidden away in a nasty shopping plaza.

I just ate here for the first time. I ordered the falafel in a wrap and the hummus. It was delicious and huge (as everyone else has commented on)! The owners were super nice, very hospitable and gregarious (making sure we enjoyed our meal). They invited us to go to the back to look at the kitchen where they have a brick oven. They make almost everything from scratch including the falafel and pita bread. All ingredients are fresh and not made from dried spices. I liked it much better than Haddad's where it's questionable where they make the food as they heat it up in the microwave and the food sits in a cooler with no kitchen in site. My husband and I went to Pita's during off-hours so service was very quick. However, my husband tells me that lunch time is usually packed so expect a 15 minute wait for the food.

I have been a big fan of this place as long as it has been around. My only knock against it would be the hours. They close at 7pm, and I can't even count the number of times I've wanted to stop and grab dinner there but couldn't make it in time after work. Everything else is perfect though. The staff are always very polite and friendly, and any time there has been an item on the menu that I hadn't heard of they have been great at telling me about it and occasionally have even offered a small sample. I love the fact that you can get a mixture of typical Americanized stuff like a Gyro or Steak and Cheese wrap, but you can also get homemade hummus (which is phenomanol) or kibbe. My most pleasant surprise there thus far has been the z'tar. A piece of pita bread with what I believe is olive oil (maybe?) and several herbs and spices rubbed on it. It looks and sounds so simple, but that mixture is very delicious and I'll be damned if I can pick out all of the flavors.

It's a hole-in-the-wall gyro place for sure, but the Lebanese dishes are as close to Lebanon as it gets, specifically the zataar, an absolute MUST! They had their own oven shipped from Italy and fire each pita fresh to order, absolutely delicious! I always order the garlic chicken gyro, it's melt-in-your-mouth delicious with their special garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato, chicken all wrapped in their freshly baked pita wrap. The pitas are not your average thick Chicago style. Instead they are paper thin and incredibly flavorful. In my opinion, you really get a mouthful of the actual pita ingredients and not just the bread as you would in a Chicago gyro. Anything with their pita bread will be sure to please, however some of the other dishes weren't quite as satisfying. The tabouleh has often been on the dry side but still holds its own. And the salads were nothing more than I could throw together at home, so I wouldn't recommend either of these. If you come here, get something hot and fresh! The service is generally slow because of often being understaffed by the owner (Habib) and his wife and sons are extremely friendly and put in the proper care to make sure your food is fresh. Always worth the wait, and this place is often very crowded. My only wish is that they were in Chicago instead of Peoria and that there was more seating. But it's always a nice treat when I go to Peoria and no gyro in Chicago can top Pita's Mediterranean.

Would go out of my way to eat here again. The fries are a must.
