I have been to Hokkaido three times. The first two times were excellent so I convinced a large group of friends to reserve their "Hokkaido Room." We called a month in advance to reserve the room for 15-20 people and called the day of to confirm we still had it. We got there, and they had given up the room to a group already. Yes, they TAKE reservations, but they DO NOT KEEP THEM. Idiot manager doesn't know what the word reservation means and said that a group of 25 came in an hour before our reservation requesting the room so he gave it to them. Completely ruined our night and we left. I will never return there no matter how good the sushi was.

We have been to plenty of other Hibachi places and this is by far the best we have been to. Great cook that was fun and exceptional food. We all greatly enjoyed the filet mignon. Three people with some drinks, under $100. Nice!

We went to have a nice dinner but was in shorts. Went in there and the hostess did not smile and kind of gave us a dirty look. Well, everyone is entitled to a bad day. We had a table by the Sushi bar. The place had a foul smell like either fishy or toilet smell. Cannot tell the difference. We sat down to order some hot tea. It was not hot at all and was charged for $5 for the tea. Not sure if they stuck it in the microwave or what. Ordered a couple of Sushi rolls. What makes the Sushi good is not only the presentation itself but also the fish/seafood, the rice. They for sure not using the Japanese rice like they supposed to. Rice was not sticky and had no taste. The Wasabi was not hot like it supposed to burn your nose. I heard that they mixed the powder to make it but if it has been mixed for a long time, it loses the flavor. We also ordered Beef Chow Foon. Rice noodle was from a dry pack. Not cool! The bill came to $45 and some change plus tip. Definitely will not visit again!

Great sushi place with hibachi and thai food items on the menu as well. Can personally recommend the endless sushi lunch special as a high quality item on the menu that includes appetizers, sashimi, and maki rolls. The upscale decor and ambience extends from the bar area to the special booths and also includes a large private party option.

Went back to Hokkaido a few weekends ago. Sushi date with the lady. They have an all-you-can-eat sushi menu now. Hell yes. Of course, you gotta eat what you order, or they'll charge you for it. Par for the course, I guess. Either way, it's good stuff. Sushi in central Illinois is a crapshoot, but Hokkaido must have a hookup at the fish market, because their sushi is as fresh as I've had. I typically don't order nigiri around here, but I took a risk and ordered some at Hokkaido. It was unbelievably fresh. Literally. I could not believe that I was eating fish so fresh in Peoria, Illinois. Next time I go, I need to ask the chef where they get the fish from. I wouldn't be shocked if they had it delivered fresh daily.

The food was good, but the service stunk, I normally do not ever tip lower than 15% but I did today, server had no smile, rarely came back to ask if we needed anything & the last order of sushi took 15 mins to get to us, we got the all you can eat sushi, but they have a rule if you do NOT eat what you order they charge you a dollar per roll, so it was a bit strange for our last order to take so long, will not go back & can not recommend.

Hokkaido gets a well earned four stars from my wife and I. We are big on atmosphere, and Hokkaido has some uniquely fun attributes. A shallow koi pond lining the walkway, a drum that you can pound in the entry way and three separate dining areas (hibachi, bar and sushi areas), which my wife and I agreed help keep each area quiet. I got the "bento box" which started with miso soup and a garden salad. I wasn't too fond of the salad as it consisted of only lettuce and dressing. But the main course was excellent... California rolls, yummy tempora (a new thing for me!) and spring rolls. My wife got a nice orange chicken dish and warm peanut roll sushi. A slight downside is service was a little slow but we were enjoying our conversation so we hardly noticed! :)

Specials are great - especially lunch. You get a lot of food! Hibachi food was cooked perfectly! Sashimi was fresh! I would recommend the salmon tartar app from the dinner menu! Waitress was excellent! Sushi chef was friendly and answered all of our questions! My only complaint was the hostess. She never smiles and when you ask her a question, she is short and unpleasant.

Great drink menu, especially sake's and cocktails. Wide variety of sushi, sashimi, and rolls. They also have Thai and Chinese dishes. Ordered Sizzling Rice Soup. Broth really tasty. Rice undercooked and semi-raw in the center. Agedeshi tofu is good. Rolls are quite tasty. Service can be slow. Every time we've been here we have had to ask the server for place settings for the extra people at the table. Servers are very friendly despite the slow service.

One of the most bizarre adventures I have ever faced in my entire existence. I wanted to experience Sushi for lunch with a good friend of mine, based on Yelp reviews decided to visit this sorry excuse for Sushi Place. We decided to go with the Endless Sushi so I ordered different varieties being that it is endless Sushi! Well guess what!? I did not like some parts I ordered so I decided to try something else. In a heavy English accent, the waiter tells me whatever you don't finish will be charged a regular price!! I was confused at first and had to double check with the manager who she was very hard to talk with! She even made false claims that my friends has been coming here all the time! But, he corrected her as it was their first time as well!!! I was forced to finish my plate to avoid being overcharged $30 for mediocre Sushi! I was crying to finish my plate! I truly suffered to get to the finish line! As a person who has traveled to over 6 countries in three continents, this is certainly a first for me!!! I highly suggest avoiding it! You have been warned!

Great food, service and atmosphere. Best Asian food in town with a great menu for sushi, Thai or Chinese (including authentic regional dishes). There's even a hibachi grill area too. A must to visit when you're in Peoria- if you like lobster you'll love their twin lobster garlic and scallion dinner.

4.75 I have NOT lost my mind....but....Comparable to some of the best sushi in this world, in my opinion of course;-) So after living on the coast and sampling sushi from many major cities throughout the country (Chicago, LA, NYC, Seattle, SanFran, SD, Miami+), PuertoRico, Canada, Europe, Asia and Africa. I cannot believe this place exists in the midwest, in PEORIA, ILLINOIS of all places. Crazy to say, but I'm sticking to it. Have eaten here regularly, both lunch and dinner. This place offers: -Fresh sushi, good portions, reasonable prices -All you can eat sushi that doesn't taste like all you can eat sushi. (lunch around 14 bucks and dinner $21-26 depending on if you go with the larger selection). -Thai (small selection) but GOOD. -Plenty of cooked Asian dishes for non-sushi eaters -Hibachi if you're into that. Multiple times I have tried to ask where their sushi comes from but either it is a big secret or the server doesn't quite understand what I am asking. Either way, keep your secret but just keep serving this melt in your mouth delicious sushi and I'll be happy. The decor is cute, many different seating rooms which include a Hibachi area, bar area, regular dining area with booths and tables and a large meeting/dining area and private hibachi room (great place to throw a party). No sushibar though. Cute goldfish swimming in the small floor aquarium, even a gong drum you can hit on your way out if you liked your meal. Once you're seated the service is always top notch, however, since this place is so big sometimes when you enter no one notices you for awhile so you kinda gotta inch your way into the dining area until someone sees you. Or just hit the drum when you walk in;-) I have tried all of the 7 (ha!) sushi restaurants in Peoria and this is #1, choice #2 would be Osaka and 3rd is Kirin on Knoxville. How anyone can vote Sushigawa as their number one is beyond me, yuk. Domo Arigato

When me and my sister's plans to eat sushi at her favorite local spot fell through because the restaurant wasn't open, we thought we'd check out what the sushi offerings at Hokkaido were like. Although she had eaten at this spot for the hibachi style food before, she had never sat down at the restaurant for sushi for lunch, so this was our first experiment. The restaurant itself is very pretty and big. They have a separate dining room for the grills, and a separate room for regular dining. Along the floor, they have a cool channel of water housing tiny baby coi fish swimming. This place seemed like it could easily accommodate a nice date night or family outing depending on what you are looking for. As for the food, our lunch was delicious! I liked that they offered a selection of bento box lunches or unlimited sushi menus, which gave us a lot of variety to choose from. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a huge sushi person myself, but I enjoyed the variety and quality of lunch, and am starting to like sushi more and more with each try. I ate the bento with with vegetable tempura, california roll, rice, and gyoza. This was a lot of food for only 9.99, and I'd gladly go back in the future when visiting my sister again.

We came here for the first time tonight and we were super impressed! The food was excellent. I got the combination pad thai and my husband ordered the sushi dinner. He was raving about how great the quality was. He really liked the dynamite roll. He said he thinks they call it a dynamite roll because it's so good that you over indulge and feel like you might explode. My pad thai had great flavor and the meat was super tender. We did feel that the service got a little slow after the restaurant started to get busier. Delicious food and we will be back!

Fabulous place to go for all you can eat sushi and easily the best place to get sushi in Peoria (and better than some of my favorite places in Chicago)! I've been here twice now and both times, have been so impressed with the quality of their sushi-grade fish, the service, and the beautiful interior. Lunch price is great steal at $11.95 and dinner is around $20 for all you can eat sushi, which gives you access to appetizers, rolls, and nigiri. If you get the deluxe Emperor's Buffet version which costs $25 for dinner, this includes additional specialty rolls, sashimi, and extra appetizers like shrimp tempura! I'm always skeptical of Asian restaurants that offer every single Asian cuisine on their menu, but a few friends ordered General Tsao's chicken and chicken katsu, which looked amazing and their meals came in very generous portions. They also have a hibachi grill as well, which would be fun to go to in a group or if you have kids. Highly recommend this place!

This is our favorite place to eat sushi in Peoria. The menu is expansive, so many rooms to try. They have endless sushi for lunch and and larger selection for dinner. We have always had excellent food. The service has always been great, the servers are wonderful. I would recommend this place to anyone.

You're probably coming here for the Hibachi, but you'll stay for the sushi. It's hard to find high quality sushi places in the Midwest. This place has convinced me, once and for all, it's worth coming back. When you ask any Japanese person, he will tell you that Hokkaido, Japan has arguably the best quality of seafood in all of Japan. To me, this restaurant is an accurate reflection of the very reason why Hokkaido in Peoria adopted this name. The sashimi here is served at the peak of readiness, paramount to any other sushi establishments I have visited in Peoria area. I highly recommend trying the Emperor's Buffet Dinner and sampling the variety of sashimi this place has to offer. Other great selections on the Emperor's Buffet Dinner menu include the specialty sushi rolls. Seriously, you can't go wrong with any of them! They're all delicious, each with its own flair, catering to spicy and non-spicy, raw and cooked alike. If you're not into raw foods, Hokkaido also offers a variety of other mouthwatering genres of Asian Cuisine ranging from different varieties of Chinese Stir-Fry, Japanese Teriyaki, and Thai Curries to name a few. One try at this place and your search for the best Asian Cuisine in Peoria stops.

Hokkaido. Always a pleasure. I love this place. Everything I try is as delicious as the last. However, the Tuna ans Salmon Tartares...... Absolutely briliant. I can't speak highly enough about this place.

hokkaido is definitely the best sushi bang for your buck in peoria. their AYCE deal is amazing: $13.99 for lunch, $20.99 for dinner & $24.99 for an expanded "emperor's dinner." prices and hours differ a bit on sundays. the menu is limited based on the price range you select, but options include appetizers, nigiri, sashimi (emperor's only), and a really decent selection of rolls. if you go hungry and make a good faith effort, you can put away a lot of fish. like most AYCE sushi places, you order as you eat, and you get charged for anything you leave behind. not a big deal - just order smart. i do have one complaint: at times hokkaido falls into the AYCE rice inflation game, with an extra layer of rice in their rolls and super skinny pieces of nigiri on huge balls of rice. see pics for evidence. this isn't always the case; i've gone a lot and it seemed like the worst was on friday/saturday nights. other times, especially at lunch, it's not noticeable. i love hokkaido and will keep going back. amazing ambiance, damn good fish for central Illinois, and fantastic AYCE pricing. but, FIGHT THE RICE INFLATION! it's worse than the man.

I've only been here for the cooking tables, but the filet is so tender and delicious. The fried rice is probably the best in Peoria with lots of garlic and other flavors. The cooks are friendly and put on a decent show. Their brand of plum wine is delicious and comes out nicely chilled. It is kind of pricey for just a normal night out, but makes a good time for special occasions.

Maybe the word has gotten out about this place but it is way too busy for me anymore. Last time we were here we walked out because it took way too long for someone to come to our table (they never did). Trying it again tonight only because it's 9pm so the service should be better.

i've had their dinner chinese entrees, buffet, and ordered a sashimi platter the entrees were ehhh. could be better. one dish was good the sushi buffet was not bad! but im not a big fan of sushi buffets.. the idea of it is great.. like ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI? OHHHH YEEEEEAH. GET SUM SONNN. BUTT they always stuff their rolls with a LOADDD of rice to try to make you full faster but its like.. i cant even taste the fish or other ingredients besides rice anymore which is sad so basically you pay for rice their sashimi platter was some were fresh but some definitely were NOT. like i got a stomachache afterwards i've definitely had much fresher in bigger cities so thats a given though in a smaller town however for a smaller town i suppose this is an okay place for sushi

Just ate here, group of 7. Booked a couple of hours before and got a hibachi table, no problems. Blend of family and friends. Very enjoyable experience and food. Service was attentive, drinks always refilled and the menu has a very good set of choices, including great sushi in addition to the hibachi options. The real fun is having your food cooked teppanyaki style right at your table, and if you're in the right mood for a good laugh, the cook will certainly get you there. For us that included catching tasty morsels in our mouths (small pieces of vegetable flipped by the cook in an impromptu game of catch), and getting a blast of sake from about 2 feet away (beware, ready your napkin wisely!), and some flame tricks right off the grill. We added a couple of sushi rolls to the set dinner - rolls tasted fresh and the one with the finely sliced lime was particularly delicious - a very nice touch and definitely on the imaginative end of the sushi spectrum. Mains varied from salmon to chicken to beef. Steak was finely cubed, cooked and delicious. Overall, very entertaining. Came away with a smile, appetites fulfilled, a lunch or two for tomorrow from the generous portions and good times in take-out boxes. The manager dropped by to check in too which was a nice touch. Well worth it, and definitely made our last night in Peoria a lot of fun with family and friends. Will be back next time for more, and this restaurant deserves to do very well if it keeps the food and entertaining presentation to the standard we saw tonight. Good for groups - very social. The kids are nearby tables were also have a blast with the cooking show. Perhaps slightly more expensive that usual, but no complaints - we were all fully satisfied.

Foods were great but the service was questionable. Made us worry to order from the limitless menu. Everything including the price was reasonavle. It wasn't bang for the buck. My son said it was a good place for Sushi, he was right; however, as I said the service was questionable. My son would come back but I will not certainly.

Can't get enough of Hokkaido! We used to have a place in P-Town years ago called Shogun, but that was way, way back when I thought it was just a restaurant named after a crap show with Richard Chamberlain. The decor is very nice and something you don't expect from a place in Peoria. They even have a big drum for you to bang on the way out while yelling "Domo Arigato!". Anyhoo, about the food. The sushi is excellent, and I'm no spring chicken when it comes to sushi. Especially the Las Vegas Roll. Haven't had a bad roll there yet. Plus, if you go during lunch, there's an all-you-can-eat special for like $12.99, but you have to eat it all or you get charged for what you don't eat. The hibachi is well worth it. Go with the ginger salad, even if you hate ginger with a passion like me, you have to try it. I've seen people actually drink it like it's liquid heroin. Get the sauce for your rice and chicken too, I think they call it "happy sauce" or something. Last, but not least, ask for Sam as your chef, he's a great guy and a lot of laughs.

Went last week with a good friend. Nice atmosphere..more upscale. Tried the Miso Soup...pretty similar to any other I've had. Ordered the Stuffed Jalapeno appetizer. Amazing...crunchy exterior, very spicy but so good. Could have gone without so much of the sauce drizzled on top. The jalapeño was good-sized and super fresh. My friend had the Philadelphia roll and the Las Vegas roll (I think). Both looked very fresh and she said they were awesome. I had the Mount Fuji which was spicy and delicious. The waitress was very friendly and asked us if this was our first visit. She also took time to tell us about their daily unlimited sushi special. I will definitely be back!

I was on my own for dinner on a recent Saturday evening so thought I'd give the newest sushi place in Peoria a try. I didn't go for the "community" hibachi experience since I was solo. The first thing that greeted me was the great decor and ambiance. Outstanding job on that subject! I had tuna sashimi, edamame and a Mango Tango roll. Everything was prepared as well as any sushi place I've been (and there are many) and I was impressed by the portion sizes. Tuna sashimi was as fresh as any in town and moreso than most. Service was also top notch. Already looking forward to my next visit!

My wife and I went to Hokkaido for the hibachi dinner. We had been there twice for the sushi which is awesome. This was my first experience at a hibachi grill and I was not disappointed. The chef was friendly and entertaining, he was worth the price of the meal just for the show. My wife and I both ordered the tuna, medium. I do have some criticisms: the tuna was much more done than either of us would consider medium and the waitress was busy and sometimes a bit slow to get refills and when she did she took our glasses along with those of the other parties away from the table and returned them, all of us at the table were unsure if we got the right glass and straw back each time and it was somewhat uncomfortable. My wife would not drink again when her first refill was returned. It would be better if they brought a new drink or just brought a pitcher to do the refills. Overall this was a great meal and my wife even said it made her mood better. The food was good, the service was good, the atmosphere was great and the experience was awesome!

Prob best Asian food in the area. Great sushi special (definitely worth it). I'm currently here on business, and I stop in at least once a week because I have a taste that is more partial to asian cuisine. Entrees are great, sushi is good, staff is nice. however, Dont have over the top expectations though.. keep in mind this is not LA, NY , or Japan (been to all three). Its the best for where it is and what it is!

I went here last night for the first time. It has a great atmosphere - fun colors, funky decor. The hibachi grill area is smaller than Osaka, but I actually preferred that. I've never seen Osaka with all its tables filled. It always feels so empty. At Hokkaido, it was busy, but we had no wait (and it was a Friday night). We started with sushi - seafood tempura. It was some of the best sushi I've had in a long time. A little spicy, which was the best part. Next was soup, and it had a strong flavor (but still good). The salad was fine (not a fan of ginger dressing, and I forgot to ask for something different). I had hibachi filet mignon and shrimp. The chef started with fried rice. I love that they add some yum yum sauce to the rice. Then veggies - broccoli, onion, mushrooms, and small pices of zucchini (I would have loved more zucchini). You also get a 2 piece shrimp appetizer. The filet was flavorful and cooked perfectly, I ate that first. The shrimp was good, although a little large. I'll order just the filet next time. All in all, I think it's the best hibachi place in Peoria - far better than Osaka. Food was better, service was better, and decor was fun and playful. I have a feeling we'll become regulars!

I love Hokkaido! I've been many times now, including to the hibachi grill side, and I've enjoyed every visit. I think this is the best sushi in Peoria. I love how they redecorated the old china buffet, and they even offer craft beer, including Dogfish head. Sushi is top quality and generally very fast on delivery to table. Their sushi buffet is a great deal, no matter when you go. I've enjoyed the service every time I've been there as well. Check it out for yourself!

Great sushi! Outstanding hibachi! The restaurant is definitely an upgrade from what was there before. They spent a lot of money redecorating and it shows.

Phil K.
Nice decor, more expensive than higher quality sushi buffets, quality/flavor is lacking. Service was fine, everyone was polite and they checked on us often. Piña colada was delicious, Caribbean breeze not great. The "Bubble teas" are actually milk teas, and not that big...they fill the cup with ice. Maybe they use different nomenclature down here...in Chicago bubble tea is a smoothie, not a milk tea. Maybe okay as a choice in peoria, could never command their prices if there was more competition.

We have been there 4 times. Once for lunch ( mongolian beef) it was superb. We have been to the hibachi 3 times and have had great meals every time. The quality of the food is the best I have experienced at that type of restaurant. The service has always been very good as well. I would recommend it for a great dining experience.

I have been to Hokkaido a number of times. I am convinced the owner, Raymond, is a Type A personality. He pays attention to every detail. The china and silverware are of high quality. The food is always fresh. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. It should be on everyone's bucket list.

We were drawn in by the offering of Thai dishes, there is only one other choice in town for Thai and we avoid Taste of Thai for a variety of reasons. Love the remodel!! It is all so bright and fun with lots of smaller rooms that would work well at reducing noise when they are busy. There is a separate bar right off the entrance that is very urban looking, would definitely stop in here before dinner with friends. We sat in the same room with the sushi bar, there are neat semi-private booths along the back wall. Our waitress was great, always buzzing back and forth with drinks, food, extra stuff and then the bill. Started with miso soup (great, not too spicy but a little small of a cup for $3.50) and Tom Yum (delicious, with a touch of spice and lots of shrimps), then we shared a chicken Panang curry. We know this is a spicier curry but there was not a little red pepper by it to denote spicy in the menu for other diners. I'm sure the Red Curry is also spicy but missing the pepper. It was very good, crisp veggies and tender real white chicken pieces, no gristle or fat. Could've used a little more sauce and maybe be served in more of a bowl rather than a plate. Then we had the Mexican maki roll and the Her Passion roll which was shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, avocado, mango and topped with 2 kinds of tobiko. Mexican was decent although missing the jalapeno but the Her Passion was marked with the spicy red pepper and had zero spice. All you could really taste was the fried tempura flavor. Very sad for $14. Their wasabi needs work too as it is the weakest wasabi I have ever tasted. Next visit, I will stick with cheaper rolls to see what their specialty seems to be. They are missing some of the maki basics like Alaskan roll, Rainbow roll, etc that I normally use as baselines to measure quality. We saw other diners' dishes and they were all very generous quantities. I am already wondering how soon I can return!

This is actually my second time going. The first time I went was horrible. It was right after they just reopened. The wait staff had a very sour attitude, we stood around forever until someone finally helped us, and then when we were leaving and commenting on how pretty the place was we got dirty looks from the guy at the counter. This time around I thought I would give it a second chance and now the food was mediocre the sushi cuts where jagged. The sushi was warm and tasted strange, and in the curry my friend got, the meat was full of gristle. The guy at the counter again had a really bad attitude, didn't smile, lead us to our table, then left without looking at us. Shortly after sitting down we noticed that the place smelled like dirty dishes or sewage. One last complaint: the roll I ordered was a Philadelphia roll and came in such huge portions, I had to cut it up with a knife. I don't think I'll be going back there again, unfortunately. :(

Great new restaurant! The decor is awesome. To get to the hibachi area you walk across a part of the floor with water and fishes in it! So cool. Choice of dining area or hibachi. We did hibachi. It was great! Delicious food, good prices. The fried ice cream dessert is awesome. The staff and management are great. I'd definitely recommend it.

Went when they first opened for hibachi, it was fair, maybe they were just to new at the time.... Went for sushi on another Friday night, It really was wonderful. Salmon sashimi was so great. So we tried out there "Endless sushi" on a week night. It is basically an all you can eat for one price, I got the 20 dollar meal. First the waiters stated..."oh you must finish EVERYTHING, even each piece of rice, or you have pay each piece" So I thought ok, they are trying to save some money. You must order 2 rolls at a time, and you can NOT order more than 2 pieces of sashimi period. My white tuna was gross to say the least, you could clearly tell the defrosted it in water, the edges were a bright white and it was very wet, I sent it back, only to be told "oh chef, he seared tuna" First I didn't order it that way, Second,,I've had seared fish and this was NOT seared. He cut the sides off and sent it back my way. Nasty nasty. My rolls were a mess and fell apart, One of my rolls looked and tasted if it was covered in melted cheese. yuck! My salmon was tiny pieces, not the great pieces I had got when I paid full price. The red tuna was a deep deep burgundy color and had no flavor at all. It felt like because I ordered the all you can eat, they gave me the crap fish and didn't care about my dish. If I go again, I will just pay for what I want and hope for the best.

First time eating Sushi, and the menu was well intimidating. The staff were professional and help guide me to what would be good for the first time, and what I said I liked. Once the food arrived, I couldn't believe I had been missing out all this time!! Would recommend the Sushi to anyone!

I've been here a few times on my frequent trips along I-74. I am not impressed by the sushi quality, even if it's a great deal. The fish is okay quality, but the rolls are often a little awkward: they use WAY too much rice (that's what you get with unlimited sushi pricing, I suppose), and the rice is not like other sushi rice, it's somehow a different texture and not as flavorful. The nigiri is good, but is also loaded with too much of the substandard rice. I've never tried the sashimi because of the price, but since the fish is good quality, I bet it would be great and eliminate the rice issue! The soup, appetizers, and kitchen meals are all top-notch and fantastic.

Excellent food, great entertainment, excellent service. Nice atmosphere. Service speed was perfect! I had shrimp which was prepared perfectly.
I have mixed feelings about this place. Generally I would say it's a decent value for the price. If I want high quality sushi I'll go to the place up by Grand Prairie. It's a step above the place in campus town though. Won't name names, everyone knows. This is the first time I've come in for the buffet though, and probably the last. I was not impressed. It seems like anything that includes tuna uses a weird tuna paste instead of actual tuna pieces. The quality on this seems very low. Secondly, the service was so slow that I ran out of time before I had to return for work and left hungry. At one point, the server brought the bill before I was finished ordering, as if he wanted me to leave. Lastly, the selection of nigiri is very small. From other reviews, it looks like the price used to be $12 instead $14. I think they need to lower it back down if this is the quality that's to be expected.

Ate there last night. After standing around at the hostess stand for 5 minutes wondering if anyone was going to actually greet us and put our name on some list, we almost walked out. There was a conversation amongst the guest about how long it would take to get someone to come over to us. I told my wife "The food better be really good or we are never coming back." Luckily for them it was. She had cucumber salad and TNT Bowl which she liked. I had Mexican roll (very spicy) and a vegetable with beef plate which I ate every drop, after picking out all the nuts. Word of advice for restaurant owners - if there are peanuts in a dish you really should put that on the menu for people with allergies. They need to seriously improve the service, like have someone who's only job is greeting incoming guests. But since it was much better than Sushigawa, we will be back.

Was told about the amazing endless sushi lunch special but opted for hibachi vegetable lunch special instead. The onion soup was bland, but my entree tasted great! The size of the entree was great considering it was lunch; the vegetables were fresh and grilled perfectly. I was also pleased with the cleanliness and appearance of the restaurant as well as the friendliness of the staff. I will definitely be back to try the sushi!

Best Sushi in Peoria! This is one of my top handful of restaurants in the area. I have always received great service (attentive when you need them and not annoying you when you don't - perfect!), delicious and beautiful food (I feel like I'm eating art), and even after eating my fill of delicious sushi, I've always felt great afterward (I've never once questioned the raw fish quality). The sushi lunch buffet (14 dollars or so as of now, Monday-Saturday) option is amazing. It's a bit of a misnomer to call this a buffet because a waiter or waitress takes your order as many times as you'd like and brings it to you, there's no walking over to the trough at this place. It's perfect for someone who's never had much sushi before and wants to dabble, especially if you can share with others who likes sushi (that way you can try a bunch of different things). There are plenty of excellent appetizer options and the sizes are all reasonable, so you'll have plenty of room for the sushi. That being said, it's also perfect for someone who loves sushi too, as you can have as much as you want! You can step up the level of sushi "buffet" too. The top level is the "Emperor" and you can get anything on their sushi menu included in one price (yes it's higher, 25 dollars or so as of now and can be had any time of the day). The mid level Dinner Special (20 dollars or so), which also can be had any time of the day has spare ribs (and lots of upgraded sushi options too), a good friend of mine swears by them, and gets the dinner special even when we go for lunch. I'm cheap, so I stick with the lunch buffet, and I can never wait to go back. If you have someone in your group who absolutely won't eat sushi, they also have Hibachi style food, which I haven't tried yet. What are you waiting for? Go get yourself some of the best Sushi in the Midwest!

Came in for a celebration dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. Fantastic service, good food, and a fun hibachi chef! Appetizers and sushi rolls were also delish.

Excellent sushi and an excellent value! They have an all you can eat menu that ranges from $13 for lunch to $20 for dinner to $25 for the really premium sushi(Emperor Dinner). My favorite is the $20 dinner menu because they have a lot to choose from and it's really delicious. The appetizers are also all you can eat and my goodness are they good. You order your food and it's made fresh and if you're still hungry you can keep ordering more. Highly recommend!

We have been to plenty of other Hibachi places and this is by far the best we have been to. Great cook that was fun and exceptional food. We all greatly enjoyed the filet mignon. Three people with some drinks, under $100. Nice!

Foods were great but the service was questionable. Made us worry to order from the limitless menu. Everything including the price was reasonavle. It wasn't bang for the buck. My son said it was a good place for Sushi, he was right; however, as I said the service was questionable. My son would come back but I will not certainly.

I will never return there no matter how good the sushi was.

hokkaido is definitely the best sushi bang for your buck in peoria. their AYCE deal is amazing: $13.99 for lunch, $20.99 for dinner & $24.99 for an expanded "emperor's dinner." prices and hours differ a bit on sundays. the menu is limited based on the price range you select, but options include appetizers, nigiri, sashimi (emperor's only), and a really decent selection of rolls. if you go hungry and make a good faith effort, you can put away a lot of fish. like most AYCE sushi places, you order as you eat, and you get charged for anything you leave behind. not a big deal - just order smart. i do have one complaint: at times hokkaido falls into the AYCE rice inflation game, with an extra layer of rice in their rolls and super skinny pieces of nigiri on huge balls of rice. see pics for evidence. this isn't always the case; i've gone a lot and it seemed like the worst was on friday/saturday nights. other times, especially at lunch, it's not noticeable. i love hokkaido and will keep going back. amazing ambiance, damn good fish for central Illinois, and fantastic AYCE pricing. but, FIGHT THE RICE INFLATION! it's worse than the man.

Excellent service. Food was very good. Decor was lovely. I loved the ponds in the floor

We have been there 4 times. Once for lunch ( mongolian beef) it was superb. We have been to the hibachi 3 times and have had great meals every time. I have been to Hokkaido a number of times. I am convinced the owner, Raymond, is a Type A personality. He pays attention to every detail. The china and silverware are of high quality.

Great sushi place for Peoria. A little pricey, but the rolls were great. Will be going back for sure.

Came to Hokkaido and had the endless sushi bar dinner! So worth it! Lilly was our server and the sushi kept coming. So good for the price. Would come back again TOMORROW if I could!
hokkaido is definitely the best sushi bang for your buck in peoria. their AYCE deal is amazing: $13.99 for lunch, $20.99 for dinner & $24.99 for an expanded "emperor's dinner." prices and hours differ a bit on sundays. the menu is limited based on the price range you select, but options include appetizers, nigiri, sashimi (emperor's only), and a really decent selection of rolls. if you go hungry and make a good faith effort, you can put away a lot of fish. like most AYCE sushi places, you order as you eat, and you get charged for anything you leave behind. not a big deal - just order smart. i do have one complaint: at times hokkaido falls into the AYCE rice inflation game, with an extra layer of rice in their rolls and super skinny pieces of nigiri on huge balls of rice. see pics for evidence. this isn't always the case; i've gone a lot and it seemed like the worst was on friday/saturday nights. other times, especially at lunch, it's not noticeable. i love hokkaido and will keep going back. amazing ambiance, damn good fish for central Illinois, and fantastic AYCE pricing. but, FIGHT THE RICE INFLATION! it's worse than the man.

To me this is Asian food for people who don't like Asian food. Fast food with restaurant prices. I should have left when I took one look at the menu which included every single item that one could imagine would be served at any restaurant in all of Southeast Asia. The menu is gigantic, yet it took them all of 5 minutes to prepare our food. A while ago on my way to Peoria I listened to This American Life story about pig rectum (bung) being sold in the restaurant business as calamari (supposedly Illigal in the US). I thought, no way. Well I am a believer after eating at this reataurant. My partner ordered calamari which came sliced into thick pieces, nothing like the rings that we have come to expect. It tasted rubbery and looked like a pile of worms. I have eaten calamari at dozens of different restaurants and I am not kidding when I say, this is not calamari. It is some sort of imitation, but what it's made from is anyone's guess. The noodles that came with the meal were extremely greasy and salty. Like I said, Panda Express quality here without the PE prices. The miso soup had a layer of grease on top. Not good. And three pieces of iceberg lettuce for a salad? Common! I had sushi. Imitation crab meat again. If you're going to use imitation meat, fine, but then you need to state it clearly in the description. Our appetizer was never brought to us, so I can't say anything about that. I really dislike when restaurant owners or managers take no pride in their food and just want to make a profit. It's too bad, I really wanted to eat some good Sushi.

Came to Hokkaido and had the endless sushi bar dinner! So worth it! Lilly was our server and the sushi kept coming. So good for the price. Would come back again TOMORROW if I could!

(4)Chad C.
Great atmosphere and Sushi! I was able to walk right in and get a table. Service was polite and attentive.
(4)Shayne G.
Great value for the money. Love the atmosphere and the shows the chefs put on for the kids.
(5)keren g.
Maybe the word has gotten out about this place but it is way too busy for me anymore. Last time we were here we walked out because it took way too long for someone to come to our table (they never did). Trying it again tonight only because it's 9pm so the service should be better.
(3)Jane Y.
i've had their dinner chinese entrees, buffet, and ordered a sashimi platter the entrees were ehhh. could be better. one dish was good the sushi buffet was not bad! but im not a big fan of sushi buffets.. the idea of it is great.. like ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI?

(2)Adolfo D.
One of our favorite restaurants in Peoria. In Florida we had Benihana. In Peoria we have Hokkaido!
(5)Harrison H.
Loved the clean atmosphere and the presentation. I only had the sushi but the quality was superb. I loved the sashimi and the overall presentation. Probably the best sushi place I've been to in Illinois.
(5)Christabelle B.
Great variety and fish selection! I went for dinner and took the special, it allows you to try many different types of rolls! Yum
(5)Dave M.
(4)Gail T.
The sushi was upscale, delicious and affordable. The Chinese food was fresh and delicious, as well. I highly recommend this place. Great food, nice decor, reasonable prices.
(4)Natasha T.
(4)Bryan W.
We got sushi and a kids meal; kids meal is pricey and sushi was okay. We'd go back for sushi, but not with a young kid.
(3)Holly B.
In love with their all you can eat sushi menu. Truly worth visiting if you love sushi. I have not tried the hibachi but I have heard great things.
(5)Kevin B.
(5)Rick R.
(4)Stephanie T.
Yum, yum, and yummy. Only place I would recommend for sushi if you don't want Gawa's.
(4)Andy M.
(4)Nicole S.
(5)Mary C.
(5)Angela M.
Great sushi! Outstanding hibachi! The restaurant is definitely an upgrade from what was there before. They spent a lot of money redecorating and it shows.
(5)Phil K.
(3)Roger H.
We have been there 4 times. Once for lunch ( mongolian beef) it was superb. We have been to the hibachi 3 times and have had great meals every time. The quality of the food is the best I have experienced at that type of restaurant. The service has always been very good as well. I would recommend it for a great dining experience.
(5)Elias G.
I have been to Hokkaido a number of times. I am convinced the owner, Raymond, is a Type A personality. He pays attention to every detail. The china and silverware are of high quality. The food is always fresh. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. It should be on everyone's bucket list.
(5)Laraine K.
Beautiful atmosphere friendly service and huge variety!

Fresh ingredients, great service, and phenomenal food led to a great experience at the new revamped restaurant. Highly recommend the sashimi and rolls. We'll definitely be back!

(5)K S.
(1)Brian M.
First time eating Sushi, and the menu was well intimidating. The staff were professional and help guide me to what would be good for the first time, and what I said I liked. Once the food arrived, I couldn't believe I had been missing out all this time!! Would recommend the Sushi to anyone!
(5)Carly C.
(3)Ana L.
(1)Greg S.
Excellent food, great entertainment, excellent service. Nice atmosphere. Service speed was perfect! I had shrimp which was prepared perfectly.
(5)Amanda S.
Excellent! Food was so good and service was amazing. I had the Hakkaido Special. My son had Shrimp and scallops. My fiancé had shrimp and steak. Love!!
(5)Justin L.
(2)Kevin S.
(3)Bekim R.
Great sushi and good service
(4)Robin J.
(4)Carl M.
(5)Renee G.
Came in for a celebration dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. Fantastic service, good food, and a fun hibachi chef! Appetizers and sushi rolls were also delish.
(5)Terry T.

Great sushi place for Peoria. A little pricey, but the rolls were great. Will be going back for sure.

We have been to plenty of other Hibachi places and this is by far the best we have been to. Great cook that was fun and exceptional food. We all greatly enjoyed the filet mignon. Three people with some drinks, under $100. Nice!

I will never return there no matter how good the sushi was.

hokkaido is definitely the best sushi bang for your buck in peoria. their AYCE deal is amazing: $13.99 for lunch, $20.99 for dinner & $24.99 for an expanded "emperor's dinner." prices and hours differ a bit on sundays. the menu is limited based on the price range you select, but options include appetizers, nigiri, sashimi (emperor's only), and a really decent selection of rolls. if you go hungry and make a good faith effort, you can put away a lot of fish. like most AYCE sushi places, you order as you eat, and you get charged for anything you leave behind. not a big deal - just order smart. i do have one complaint: at times hokkaido falls into the AYCE rice inflation game, with an extra layer of rice in their rolls and super skinny pieces of nigiri on huge balls of rice. see pics for evidence. this isn't always the case; i've gone a lot and it seemed like the worst was on friday/saturday nights. other times, especially at lunch, it's not noticeable. i love hokkaido and will keep going back. amazing ambiance, damn good fish for central Illinois, and fantastic AYCE pricing. but, FIGHT THE RICE INFLATION! it's worse than the man.

(5)Molly J.
Great service amazing food. Hibbachi and sushi were excellent with great presentation.

Excellent food, great entertainment, excellent service. Nice atmosphere. Service speed was perfect! I had shrimp which was prepared perfectly.

(4)E T.
(5)Frank C.

(5)Seth W.
This is our favorite place to eat sushi in Peoria. The menu is expansive, so many rooms to try. They have endless sushi for lunch and and larger selection for dinner. We have always had excellent food. The service has always been great, the servers are wonderful. I would recommend this place to anyone.
(5)Lucy W.

(5)Adolfo D.
One of our favorite restaurants in Peoria. In Florida we had Benihana. In Peoria we have Hokkaido!
(5)Mark B.

(5)Gail T.
The sushi was upscale, delicious and affordable. The Chinese food was fresh and delicious, as well. I highly recommend this place. Great food, nice decor, reasonable prices.
(4)Roger H.
Yum
(5)Kathleen J.
OHHHH YEEEEEAH. GET SUM SONNN. BUTT they always stuff their rolls with a LOADDD of rice to try to make you full faster but its like.. i cant even taste the fish or other ingredients besides rice anymore which is sad so basically you pay for rice their sashimi platter was some were fresh but some definitely were NOT. like i got a stomachache afterwards i've definitely had much fresher in bigger cities so thats a given though in a smaller town however for a smaller town i suppose this is an okay place for sushi
(2)Renee G.
Came in for a celebration dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. Fantastic service, good food, and a fun hibachi chef! Appetizers and sushi rolls were also delish.
(5)Terry T.
(5)B-Money A.
Great sushi place for Peoria. A little pricey, but the rolls were great. Will be going back for sure.
(5)Justin L.
(2)Robin J.
(4)Dave M.
(5)Kevin B.
(5)Andy M.
(4)Kevin S.

Great sushi and good service

(4)Stephanie T.
Yum, yum, and yummy. Only place I would recommend for sushi if you don't want Gawa's.
(4)Nicole S.
(5)Mary C.
(5)Angela M.
Great sushi! Outstanding hibachi! The restaurant is definitely an upgrade from what was there before. They spent a lot of money redecorating and it shows.
(5)Phil K.

(4)Spencer T.
Fresh ingredients, great service, and phenomenal food led to a great experience at the new revamped restaurant. Highly recommend the sashimi and rolls. We'll definitely be back!

(5)Frank C.

(5)Seth W.
This is our favorite place to eat sushi in Peoria. The menu is expansive, so many rooms to try. They have endless sushi for lunch and and larger selection for dinner. We have always had excellent food. The service has always been great, the servers are wonderful. I would recommend this place to anyone.
(5)Lucy W.
(5)Robert S.
Hokkaido. Always a pleasure. I love this place. Everything I try is as delicious as the last. However, the Tuna ans Salmon Tartares...... Absolutely briliant. I can't speak highly enough about this place.
(5)Holly B.
In love with their all you can eat sushi menu. Truly worth visiting if you love sushi. I have not tried the hibachi but I have heard great things.
(5)Kevin B.
(5)Kevin S.
(3)Justin L.
(2)Robin J.
(4)Dave M.
(4)Gail T.
The sushi was upscale, delicious and affordable. The Chinese food was fresh and delicious, as well. I highly recommend this place. Great food, nice decor, reasonable prices.
(4)Natasha T.
(4)Bryan W.
We got sushi and a kids meal; kids meal is pricey and sushi was okay. We'd go back for sushi, but not with a young kid.
(3)Nicole S.
(5)Mary C.
(5)Angela M.
Great sushi! Outstanding hibachi! The restaurant is definitely an upgrade from what was there before. They spent a lot of money redecorating and it shows.
(5)Phil K.
(3)Roger H.
We have been there 4 times. Once for lunch ( mongolian beef) it was superb. We have been to the hibachi 3 times and have had great meals every time. The quality of the food is the best I have experienced at that type of restaurant. The service has always been very good as well. I would recommend it for a great dining experience.
(5)B-Money A.
Great sushi place for Peoria. A little pricey, but the rolls were great. Will be going back for sure.
Yum
(5)Tracie C.
We have been to plenty of other Hibachi places and this is by far the best we have been to. Great cook that was fun and exceptional food. We all greatly enjoyed the filet mignon. Three people with some drinks, under $100. Nice!
(5)Hyo K.
Foods were great but the service was questionable. Made us worry to order from the limitless menu. Everything including the price was reasonavle. It wasn't bang for the buck. My son said it was a good place for Sushi, he was right; however, as I said the service was questionable. My son would come back but I will not certainly.
(2)Adolfo D.
One of our favorite restaurants in Peoria. In Florida we had Benihana. In Peoria we have Hokkaido!
(5)Kathleen J.
OHHHH YEEEEEAH. GET SUM SONNN. BUTT they always stuff their rolls with a LOADDD of rice to try to make you full faster but its like.. i cant even taste the fish or other ingredients besides rice anymore which is sad so basically you pay for rice their sashimi platter was some were fresh but some definitely were NOT. like i got a stomachache afterwards i've definitely had much fresher in bigger cities so thats a given though in a smaller town however for a smaller town i suppose this is an okay place for sushi

(1)Clayton H.
Came to Hokkaido and had the endless sushi bar dinner! So worth it! Lilly was our server and the sushi kept coming. So good for the price. Would come back again TOMORROW if I could!
(4)Amanda S.
Excellent! Food was so good and service was amazing. I had the Hakkaido Special. My son had Shrimp and scallops. My fiancé had shrimp and steak. Love!!
(5)Rebecca B.
hokkaido is definitely the best sushi bang for your buck in peoria. their AYCE deal is amazing: $13.99 for lunch, $20.99 for dinner & $24.99 for an expanded "emperor's dinner." prices and hours differ a bit on sundays. the menu is limited based on the price range you select, but options include appetizers, nigiri, sashimi (emperor's only), and a really decent selection of rolls. if you go hungry and make a good faith effort, you can put away a lot of fish. like most AYCE sushi places, you order as you eat, and you get charged for anything you leave behind. not a big deal - just order smart. i do have one complaint: at times hokkaido falls into the AYCE rice inflation game, with an extra layer of rice in their rolls and super skinny pieces of nigiri on huge balls of rice. see pics for evidence. this isn't always the case; i've gone a lot and it seemed like the worst was on friday/saturday nights. other times, especially at lunch, it's not noticeable. i love hokkaido and will keep going back. amazing ambiance, damn good fish for central Illinois, and fantastic AYCE pricing. but, FIGHT THE RICE INFLATION! it's worse than the man.
(4)Josh B.
Chef Raymond Poon has created a beautiful environment, a welcoming staff, and food that invokes a big city dining experience.
(5)Priscilla C.
(1)Eric L.
(5)Molly J.
Great service amazing food. Hibbachi and sushi were excellent with great presentation.
(5)Lisa R.
Excellent service. Food was very good. Decor was lovely. I loved the ponds in the floor
(4)Bryan S.
(4)Brian M.
First time eating Sushi, and the menu was well intimidating. The staff were professional and help guide me to what would be good for the first time, and what I said I liked. Once the food arrived, I couldn't believe I had been missing out all this time!! Would recommend the Sushi to anyone!
(5)Carly C.
(3)Ana L.
(1)Greg S.
Excellent food, great entertainment, excellent service. Nice atmosphere. Service speed was perfect! I had shrimp which was prepared perfectly.
(5)Zach N.
(5)Bill A.
(1)Mark B.

(5)Renee G.
Came in for a celebration dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. Fantastic service, good food, and a fun hibachi chef! Appetizers and sushi rolls were also delish.
(5)Terry T.

Yum, yum, and yummy. Only place I would recommend for sushi if you don't want Gawa's.

Fresh ingredients, great service, and phenomenal food led to a great experience at the new revamped restaurant. Highly recommend the sashimi and rolls. We'll definitely be back!
