After reading the reviews we were excited to check out this local spot. However we were disappointed. It is definitely a very popular restaurant. At 7pm on a Friday it was packed. Very loud inside. We had no wait. We were shown to our table were I had to brush crumbs from my chair. The menu didn't have too many Irish options and I thought it was a bit on the pricey side. They only serve shepherd's pie two days a week???? We were served our salads (white iceberg lettuce with no cheese) but didn't have any silverware to eat with and sat there for several minutes before taking silverware from another table. Our waiter never came by at any point to see if we would like another beer or to see how everything was. It was also odd that the entrance to the kitchen was in the same hall as the bathrooms. So the entire staff was always coming and going; it was hard to navigate getting to the bathroom. If I lived in this town, I would likely not go back to this restaurant.

Heard this was one of the places to come for a tenderloin sandwhiches. We each had 1 and took 3 home to go. For $6.95 and quite tasty it was a hit. For 2 sodas and 5 tenderloins with tax was $43 + tip. Thanks

The atmosphere of Donnelly's is quaint, especially outside on the patio. We were seated quickly and our waitress took our drink orders. There are about 8 tables on the patio, with 3 or so with umbrellas. If it's a hot day, it would be nice to sit underneath the umbrellas. My whole family ordered the tenderloin sandwich because we like tenderloins and I had read that they were to "die for". The wait wasn't too long, about 15 minutes. The tenderloin is pressed thin that is about 1/4 inch of meat thick. The small tenderloin seems big so I would get the big one if you only really hungry. They go almost overboard with breading because it seems like you are only eating the bread crumbs. The tomato and lettuce were to a minimum on my sandwich. My parents ordered sides of fries. They were not too hot and it seemed like they had been sitting out for awhile in the kitchen. There were only about 5 or so fries that were actually pleasurable to eat. Most of them were not crispy and limp. Finally, the check took too long to get. My mom had to flag down the waitress to get the check. I'm sure it was because it was a busy night, but I would have liked her to be more personal. I would give Donnelly's another try and eat something else. It's a good alternative than other chain restaurants.

Great place to eat dinner or grab a drink. The food is great in my opinion and their french fries are Amazing. Large food menu and large drink menu. As for food I would recommend the tenderloin (get the full), any of their choices of fish, or the chicken strip dinner. There are a decent amount of seats so I wouldn't worry about getting in. As for a place to go watch the game, this is not it. There is only 4 TV'S in the restauran, although you can see them from most of the tables.

Best Irish pub around this part of town! Really good food and service and always friendly people! The outdoor seating is nice in the summer and inside they have cool church things inside. If your life ogling for something downtown pop into Kellaher's on Water street. Otherwise this is the spot

Great selection of brews from around the world. An impressive amount of wooden decor as well to give the whole place a very cozy vibe. At my last visit, they had decorated the whole place for the holidays and were playing Christmas music which had everyone in the holiday spirit. Personally speaking, I'm a regular fan of the Chimay draught along with the Irish Whiskey Steak entree.

Nice selection on the menu. Great service. Nice beer selection.their parking lot is deceiving. It makes them look like they are crowded. But usually they have plenty of tables.

Wings are awesome!!!! Fish and chips left a little to be desired. Great beer selection and a cool atmosphere.

I really want to like this place but it just doesn't measure up to similar eateries in Peoria. I've never experienced very friendly service here, the bar is always a mess with a big cluster of servers at one end yelling out their orders to the single bartender and then milling around talking and laughing loudly. They have to wait for that single bartender to do everything, even open bottles of beer which will really delay your order. Wine list is very domestic, not very impressive to me. They do have a ton of beers, both on tap and bottled so hopefully that's your thing! The food just doesn't wow me at all. Chicken strips are very lightly breaded which is great but they have zero flavor. Salads are completely iceberg with a single cherry tomato and a couple slices of onion. My baked potato was lukewarm but also totally overdone, hard all around the edges with only the very center edible. Catfish was huge but also seemed to have an excessive amount of the grayish mucus covering the meat under the fried shell. Maybe other places remove more of that before frying? Not sure but not very appetizing. This is just one of those places that don't kill me to eat at but I definitely only go here at someone else's behest!

Hands down the best wings I have ever had, and that is not an exaggeration. 1 lb for $8, 2 lbs for $15. They are the larger, meatier wings, as well. The sauce has an amazing, unique flavor. Definitely a must try in Peoria. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the sandwiches are only ok, and do not come with any sides. But the dinner entrees do, and the ones I have tried were great. Also, very friendly service

The new location is terrific - Ryan, Terry & Molly Donnelly and the entire Donnelly clan have done it again! It's truly a slice of the Emerald Isle right here in Peoria. The quaint pub atmosphere is still in tact, and it's still a place where you can grab a pint and catch up with an old friend and by the time the night is over, you've made a few more. Ryan's chicken wings are still the best in America, if not the entire world. You must try the wings.

Just okay. Out of first 2 beers I asked for, and 3 separate food items were just okay. Service was average as well. I'll try it again given the number of good reviews. Everyone has an off night.

We came here on St. Pattys day, 2015, which has to be their busiest day of the year. We arrived, and were put on a waiting list, which is understandable for the day/crowd. We grabbed some drinks from the bar in the meantime. We sat outside enjoying the guinness while we waited. We were called in around 45 minutes after arriving, which was before we were told. We got a booth in the main dining area. The waitress greeted us quickly, and told us about the irish specials for the day. She took our drink orders, water, with more guinness of course. We all ordered the corned beef plate, which comes with cabbage, beef, and potatoes. About 15 or so minutes later, the food came. Food tasted great, tasted genuinely irish. Food was very warm, as expected. Waitress came back again after dinner, asking about dessert orders. We ordered a baileys pie, which was very delicious. During the visit, we had another round of guinness, and a few car bombs across the 3 of us. We finished up the pie, stuck around for awhile, and then headed out after paying. A great place overall. Very friendly staff, and great food -------------------------------- Service - 5/5 Food Quality- 5/5 Serving Size - 5/5 Speediness - 5/5 Atmosphere - 4/5 Overall: 5/5

From being out of town I checked the other reviews and decided to come here. I read the negative reviews and they complained about to much domestic wine at an Irish pub. Well the Irish aren't really wine drinkers. One guy said it isn't NorCal enough for him well your in the mid west bud. This place is a good place to go so don't listen to the negative bunk.

I come here often. I always get the same thing cause i love it so much. The Waterford chicken sandwich. I would not call myself a chicken sandwich fan. In fact id probably only get it 1 out of 50 times when compared to to getting a burger... But one night, that 1 out of 50 happened and I ordered the Waterford chicken sandwich on my first visit to this place. And I'm hooked. I would call it the best chicken sandwich in Peoria, even though i basically have not had barely any other places chicken sandwiches. I feel like I'm saying "chicken sandwiches" a lot in this review. Anyway the thing is great. And I always get the mashed potatoes and gravy and those are always great too. They are all lumpy and good. I'm always stuffed like a fat kid at thanksgiving after this meal. Im knocking down a star though cause there has been many times I've asked for a beer on the beer list and they don't have it in (at least 3 times). Once I ordered a Lucifer beer that was on the list and the waitress told me the manager hasn't been ordering that one because of the name. Totally legit reason, i understand completely. (that's internet sarcasm, internet people). Their beer prices are a bit pricey too. Ive had a wide range of wait staff, from nice to weirdo to boring... But int the end they all did a fairly competent job. In the end I'm giving this place the "me" seal of approval even though my exploration with their menu has been non existent.

In from out of town. Met my siblings here. Not terrible, but this area is not NorCal when it comes to dining. Good beer selection. Lots of fried foods. Salmon was decent. Pulled pork was OK. Not a lot of vegetables to be seen.

    (2)
  • Pam J.

Tried it again. Disappointed again. The general impression is that the customer is here for their benefit. Prices are high for the quality and type of food. I will say that the salmon I had tasted good, but it was a very small portion for $17. And when I asked to substitute a vegetable for the potato, they said the could not substitute. I offered to pay extra since I don't eat potatoes. They charged 3.25 for undercooked broccoli with zero seasoning. So $20 later I am still hungry. We will not be back any time soon.

Impromptu stop here tonight. Hadn't been to the new location, but it's quite nice. Nice separation between the bar and dining area, nice mix of booths, tables, dark and inviting. Easy to sit back and relax with one of the many beer choices. I had some raspberry thing, it was on tap. My partner had a schocktop. We had cheese balls while we waited, nothing special, but something to nibble on with the beer. I will say right of the bat that I didn't order what I wanted because I got something I could split. It was a big tenderloin. It was big, it was crispy. It wasn't the best I've had, nor was it memorable. Next time, getting something to really review. The fench fries were OK, I think they may have been cut there. They just weren't all that tasty. They weren't all that crispy. In general, there wasn't anything that stood out nor was there anything really bad. That alone gives it a 3 star. Unless I have occasion to go back, I probably won't even think of them. They have a great outside seating area, and it was a great night for sitting out. Even in the heat of summer this would be a good place to sit outside. They have good shading, not on a hot busy street. Good for families. Casual, good prices.

I have followed Donnelly's from their old place, which was great to the new location. I think that the new restaurant is really attractive and very authentic. We went on Saturday for lunch--the day before St. Pat's. It was busy but we had no problems getting service and our food in a timely manner. The food was great , as usual and the wait staff was attentive. On the whole, I was not disappointed in any way. I give the experience a "thumbs up"!

What a great place! Great atmosphere, great service, and great food. They have a good mix of traditional American as well as Irish(-American) cuisine. I like bangers and mash, but the wings are really good too. A nice selection of beer, draft and bottled, is offered and the Guinness is pretty good out of the tap. You won't be disappointed if you try Donnelly's.

Friendly, cozy bar with good food. We stopped for lunch on a Thursday at it was pretty darn busy, but we were able to get a seat and eat within an hour.

Donnelly's recently moved from their decades-old location to the old Lone Star Steakhouse location near Westlake. Our experience here tonight was almost comical. For starters, the place is amazingly loud. So are the staff. Proven as I was waiting at the hostess stand to get on the waiting list for a table. One hostess literally screamed for a party of people...right next to my ear. I did get a half-hearted apology. Unprofessional. Once we were seated, we were placed in a booth where a gigantic blower above us blew cold air on us. Our napkins and the menus were flapping in the breeze it was generating. I was wearing my coat and scarf. We browsed the menu, and made our decisions. No one came to us. Finally a busboy asked us if we'd care for some water 'while we wait'. Yeah...it took FIFTEEN MINUTES for the waitress to acknowledge us. Even then, she told us that she'd be 'right with us'. That was another 10 minutes. We should have left at that point. A hostess let us move to a nearby table to get away from the draft, thankfully. We had plenty of time to wait. We waited nearly one and a half HOURS for our food to come! The only reason that we did get out food then was due to me tracking down a waiter (ours was AWOL) to fetch the manager. Waiter told me manager was busy, and I essentially told him that if I didn't see the manager right then, things were going to get ugly. Manger checks the back (and doesn't apologize), and our food comes out within a couple of minutes. Mine was 5 degrees short of COLD. At that point, I was so hungry I didn't care. Food was medicore. We waited another 15 minutes after telling someone that we wanted the check...and I had to go to the waitress station and argue with another manager that I wasn't going to wait any longer. At that point we had been in this twilight zone of a restaurant for about 2 1/2 hours. I would accept some flukes out of a brand new restaurant, but come on. Donnelly's has been in business for decades. There is NO acceptable reason for what happened to us tonight. It will be a very long time before I revisit this place, if ever. Talk about a three-ring circus!

First time here. Wildly surprised at how amazing everything was. Cheese balls, tenderloin strips, buffalo chicken sandwich, waterford chicken, and homemade chips were Outstanding. Great staff & good beer. This place is far too underrated! Tell your friends!!

I had the walleye there with my wife, it was delicious, and there were three HUGE fillets. The fries were done perfect, and the dill tartar sauce, that made the meal!

Checked this place out on my way to St. Louis with a buddy and we were both very satisfied. Went around 1pm and the place was mostly empty so seating was not a problem. Our waitress was very attentive and responsive. Food came fast and the beer selection was phenomenal with close to 50 or more brews available and perhaps 8 on tap. I had the blackened tilapia Americus with Chipotle mayo and it was to die for. Highly recommended and will return.

Waited 35 minutes to be seated. Weren't acknowledged by a server for 25 minutes. Hosts are loud and obnoxious. Tenderloin was terrible. Appetizer sampler was burnt and over fried. Fish and chips was merely breading and oil. Lots of oil. Refills never came. Server was uninterested in checking back with us. Never again.

My husband and I returned to Donnelly's since we hadn't been for a few months. We went early in the evening to avoid the crowd. Our waitress was very nice and refilled our ice-teas throughout dinner. My husband wanted to try their Fried Chicken, as he is in search of the Best Fried Chicken in the area. I had a cup of soup of the day, which was Vegetable Beef, and decided I'd try their tenderloin. My soup came out first, and it was loaded with veggies and beef. Very good flavor! I would definitely get this again and in fact, would go with a bowl and make it my meal! My husbands plate came loaded with Fried Chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy. He said the potatoes and gravy were very good. The chicken, he said, was cooked well and juicy, but was somewhat bland as if it needed some salt and pepper mixed in with the flour before it was fried. My tenderloin was large, and I cut it in half to eat. It was cooked well and was a good selection of tenderloin. It also tasted like it could use some salt/pepper in the breading mix. The dinner was not expensive and our waitress was very good.

My family and I have frequented this establishment about once a month for the past 10 years and think the food is good. However, tonight, we went with a party of 9 at 5:00pm so we wouldn't have to wait and were asked to leave at 6:40pm because another party had a reservation. Now I had called earlier in the day and was told that they "do not take reservations" In addition, our table was still regularly orderly drinks. This is not customer service and I'm not sure if I will be back! I have never been treated like this at a restaurant ever!!!!!!!

Best wings... anywhere. Ryan's hot wing sauce is the perfect mix of hot and sweet. Try the Whiskey Ribeye. It's fantastic. Great craft beer selection; 50+. Excellent management, Direct TV so they will put your game on one of their many TVs, and friendly service. Good place to take the family for dinner or hang out with a buddy and watch a game over a few craft brews. I'll be back!

Ive been here twice and both times have been great!! The food is good and they have a friendly staff. They can get busy at times. Prices are decent. Portions are just right and they definitely fill you up. They have a full bar and seems to be a great place to come and unwind...

Great sandwiches at reasonable prices. I eat here regularly, and you can't go wrong with the tenderloin. The stack - roast beef au jus - is awesome. What you might not expect is that the wings are incredible - I haven't had better wings anywhere else in town. Good stew, bangers and mash, sausage sandwich, reuben, and on and on...They also have a great beer selection - guinness/harp on draft (of course), as well as old speckled hen, and a number of bottled micro brews. All-around good pub fare.
