Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Great Mexican food!! Steak tapicana is my favorite, but it is all good and filling. Ask for the strawberry shortcake margaritas and it is perfect. It is a bit out of the way but worth it.

This little gem in Naplate is easy to miss, but you should definitely stop by and enjoy a meal here. First of all, the prices are insanely low: $4 margaritas and a few other mixed drinks, and on Wednesday and Thursday, they have $2.50 margaritas! I was excited to try a torta, which is a Mexican sandwich. On the East Coast, where I also reside, tortas there have a bean paste smeared on the bun and the sandwiches feature chipotle peppers, onions, and avocado. I've had a torta at Jardine's in Ottawa and now here at Mariachis -- the tortas at both these locations were good, but I do wish they had the chipotle and other elements I found in my tortas back east. Anyway, I got my torta at Mariachis with pork (pastor), it was tender, mildly spiced, and added much flavor to the sandwich, which also featured lettuce and cheese. The bread was delicious, and for only $5, I was stuffed when I was done and my tastebuds were pleased. That said, I would have liked some avocado, onions, and chipotle in the sandwich, but that would require raising the price I'm sure (but I would have gladly paid extra for that). My friend who came with me chose the vegetarian burrito. Sadly, the restaurant didn't have beans this day, so her burrito was gross and flavorless -- it featured unseasoned yellow rice, cold lettuce, tomato, and some potatoes. The flour tortilla also wasn't warm (that's where cooked beans with a sauce would have made it better). It was huge, too, so if you get one with meat (chicken, pork, steak, or ground beef), you will probably love it. The chips were thick and crispy. The salsa was mild and had a little chunkiness to it. Our lunch came to $10.50 before the tip. It's a small restaurant, but it doesn't look like it gets crazy busy. There's a nice bar area near the front door as well.

Absolutely the best little Mexican place around. The owner is very nice and makes one hell of a margarita the food is AWESOME !!! Is it some fancy Mexican restaurant in an affluent suburb or downtown Chicago, no it is not, but is it one of the best little places with great food gear drink and great staff. Yes, yes, and YES

Good food (steak fajitas!), great salsa, and a great bar. The decor and ambience are the major negatives here, as the decor is cliche and the bar volume can sometimes spill into the dining area. Service is usually good, but not always. A Naplate staple.

Had a nice dinner here last night. The guac is great. No tomatoes which we loved! I got the red snapper and while it was excellent, I would have appreciated knowing that it would take at least 30 mins extra to cook. We had our toddler w us and he got very restless waiting for the food. Otherwise the service was great. We will be back!

Definitely following the trend of a 3-star joint. I came here recently with my grandmother (by her recommendation) and my mom. The salsa is really good, but the chips are horrible. The menu's smelled rancid, almost made me lose my appetite. Someone needs to wash those stat! My mom and I got margaritas since they are supposedly "the best". I asked the waitress for her recommendation and she ended up just re-reading the menu to us....thanks, I can read. We got the Don Julio on the rocks, not that good and super expensive for $8. All three of us got chicken tacos, got amount of food for the price. Not too bad, the chicken was good. Also, someone should let the manager/owner know the first door leading outside is not up to fire code. It opens in when it should open out. A lot of seafood on the menu. The waitress was really nice. But overall, not a place worth going back, especially with an almost $50 bill.

Went here with my gf cuz she had a craving for tacos, don't know any restaurants in this area and our gps system lead us here. We ordered our food to go and I'm wonderin if that's why the food wasn't that great. She had chicken and i had carne asada tacos and they were ok. It was 3 tacos and no other sides. I'm used to gettin rice and/or beans with a meal, but whatever. The meat in my tacos were flavorful, but the tortillas were not so good. I like corn tortillas better than flour & these tortillas tasted like they were old & not so fresh. Since we didn't know of other options for mexican food, we had to go 4 it. However, we will not be returning here if we are ever in this area again.

I'm not for sure what everyone's problem is. The chips are. The most authentic I've had in the area. If you've ever been to little village in Chicago you would agree. This is the most authentic Mexican food in the area. It's all mouth watering, try the camarones ala veracruzana. You'll agree, the tacos were awesome and yes best!! Margarita in the area! No match anywhere. So if your used to authentic this is the place, if you used to taco bell and the other fake places around town.. Give your taste buds a bump into heaven in the LP area.

I agree with George S. Margaritas get an A+, chips get an F. Salsa was OK, but the chips were stale. Don't order the Crab Cervehcie unless you like fake crabmeat. The Carne Asada Super Burrito is very large, and was tasty. Staff was very friendly and checked on us several times

The Mexican food here is very good and the portions are large. They have some of the best margaritas I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. They are made with fresh fruit. The only disappointment to me is their chips. They are the worse chips I have ever eaten, bar none. I would have given another star if it wasn't for the chips. Don't order the burrito, unless you are famished. It is more food than three people can eat.
