PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING HERE...... It is because of this restaurant that I developed the urge to rate restaurants for the first time. I visited this establishment recently in March of 2012. This was not the first time we choose this place, but is definitely the last. 1) Arrival-2 of the 3 lots were roped off for valet only. Guys, this is not Vegas, its Orland Park IL. Needless to say, both lots were empty and we struggled to find a slot in the back. 2) Interior- this place hasn't changed in 15 years, kind of getting old and musty. Put out some cash and make some changes. It's a funeral home in here. The chairs and floors are dirty. 3)Food-terrible. Sauce out of a can. No heart or passion. Same food since we started coming. Its quantity over quality as they bring you loads of salad stuff and crusty bread but the food is stale. You are in this business because you "love" food, do something about it. 4)Ownership- ego, let it go, you are just restaurant owners. This is NOT good Italian food. You lost my business for good.

Two for one specials and solid traditional food.... You can't go wrong with this place.

I was here recently for a wedding rehearsal dinner so I didn't have much of a choice in what was ordered, etc. I thought the the bread and salads were okay but was disappointed with the entrees. I loved that the bread was warm and very fresh. I had the mostacholi for dinner and it fell flat. I just thought the sauce was okay -- tasted like something I would make out of a Ragu jar at home. I didn't have the chicken but it looked like it was over-fried and sat under a warmer for too long (i.e. greasy & dark-ish brown). Aside from the food, the room we were in was huge and easily accommodated the party I was with. But the music in that restaurant was so loud -- every time I walked outside our little room, I thought I was at a bar. It just wasn't the kind of music you would expect for a restaurant...

OK! So I went back because I got emails saying I did not give it a chance as the food was picked for me. I went last Friday and got the Steak Italiano. The bread was again, awsome! The iceburg lettuce, pasta salad and cucumber plate were the same as before. They all tasted alike? The minestrone soup in a cup came without a saucer? They were out. It had no pasta in it. Just chunks of celery. When my steak came out it was nothing like what was described on the menu. It was little chucks of grey steak. Why did she ask me how I wanted it cooked? I said medium, not boiled. The pasta was not rigatoni but some smaller overcooked tube pasta. The flavor was gone! If they took it off the stove a day sooner it would probably still have some. I feel sorry for the waitresses as they had to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get our drinks from the bar in the basement. When the bill came she handed me a receipt and told me they were out of the black check holders? The washroom is on the gross side and your hands were probably cleaner before you walked in. I have no idea what these other people were eating that gave this place 5 stars. It must be nice to have friends that will lie for you.

First I think the Yelp address is wrong. This restaurant is located at 145th and LaGrange in Orland Park. As to the food - pretty good prices - tasty - good size portions and a nice atmosphere. You can't go wrong taking your family here. It does get a good crowd at times - so - it is probably a good idea to call first.

I have never shared my family's loyalty to restaurants. I appreciate supporting and loving a place unconditionally if it is the undisputed best, but in order to determine that, you have to shop around a bit. When my family moved to Palos, I was expecting my father to make weekly treks back to 81st and Kedzie to pick up 2 large thin crusts from Pizza Oven--sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms for him and my mom, cheese with extra cheese for my brother and I. Always. Maybe an annual departure to the same thing on deep dish, but that was a shocking exception. Surprisingly, no treks to Wrightwood were made, and a new darling was adopted into the family as the new default pizza place: Papa Joe's. Sadly, I don't think that they explored too many options before deciding on a new default pizza option, but as luck would have it, Papa Joe's is pretty tasty. The deep dish is a dense mess of marinara and ingredients atop a thick buttery crust with a 1 inch layer of mozzarella. The pasta is pretty standard, as is most of the menu. And although I haven't lived out there for some time, it's a welcome treat to visit my parents and be greeted with a heaping slice of deep dish. A mark of the faith they have in this place is that they've actually incorporated green peppers into the rotation.

For the life of me, I don't know why this resturant only rates 3 1/2 stars! My wife had the broiled pork chops. I had the chicken picata. Both were fabulous! You get soup AND salad, and absolutely phenominal fresh Italian bread. We will definitely go again! Oh, service was top-notch as well.

You really get a lot of food for what you pay. The food is nothing that special but it is good. I think I'll stick with the pizza next time though.

A great Italian restaurant in the 'burbs. Not necessarily authentic food (not that I'd know), and not the greatest I've had, but we happened in on a Tuesday night which was 'buy one get one free' pasta night! What a deal! The pasta dishes are only $11 to begin with, and they were pretty good-sized and very good. All pastas also came with 3 different salads, soup, and bread. I felt like we were stealing from them, it was such a good deal. I don't get out there much, but I'm glad we found this place. Oh, a downside is that they had singers in the bar. At first, I thought it was just really really really bad karaoke singers, but it turns out they were the hired singers. (Remember the couple that was singing 'Stayin' Alive' at the bar - Dresden was it? - in the movie Swingers? It was like that, but way more out of tune). I was hoping that they'd take a break, but they kept singing through our entire meal. I would definitely not let the 'entertainment' keep me from returning, though.

I'll never forget how 27 out of 45 people got food poisoning at my son's 2nd birthday party here 3 years ago. My poor boy spent his whole actual birthday throwing up and sick and my grandparents were even hospitalized. How embarrassed I was getting all these calls from family and friends that they were so sick. Papa joes told us that it must have been the cake we brought in. First of all I've had the same person make his cake every year and for all our events and secondly barely anyone ate cake including myself and I was very sick as well. Haven't been back here since. Hope this hasn't happened again to anyone

I really like this place. The pizza is good, appetizers are good, and entrees are good. They also have good week day specials. The place is big so I've never had to wait for a table. I often come here with a large group and we are always satisfied when leaving.

  • Mike C.

We have been customers of Papa Joe's for several years, including several large group events. But after a very poor experience with an event for 65+ people, we will not be back. The service started off slow, but it only grew worse as the event continued, culminating in the wait staff tossing food plates onto the tables. The manager seemed responsive at first, but ultimately it was clear that he had no genuine interest in the satisfaction of the customers. Since the manager is apparently also the owner's son, we predict that Papa Joe's does not have a strong future. Fortunately, there are a number of much better restaurants to choose from in the area, including Francesca's in Palos Park.

I only ordered pizza delivery from here so that is what I base my review on. I moved to the area from the famous Archer Ave. Corridor of Obbies, Trianos, Dannys, Villa Rosa and I'm trying all the pizza places around here. I applaud them for the delivery which is about 6-7 miles away with no complaints. Pizza is kinda forgettable. Nothing that would make me order again. Does have a nice thickness to it for a thin crust; however, nothing too impressionable about the sauce (not sweet), not very cheesy (I like extreme cheese), ingredients appeared fresh but didn't blend well. And when reheated cheese appeared clear. Is it supposed to do that? Try it if you must, taste is subjective, but i believe there are better options around.

We stopped in for lunch, service was quick clam chowder piping hot & very good. I ordered a salad with warm bacon dressing, which was really good. My brother had the chicken bacon wrap that good & my sister had the pasta with mushroom sauce. Everything was good, nothing made me want to come back though.

This restaurant has been around since the early 1980's. It has stood the test of time for very good reasons. The interior is VERY old school so don't be expecting modern. Minestrone soup was really good and the relish dishes they brought out for the next course consisted of pasta salad, a cucumber/tomato salad and a regular salad. They were decent and was just enough to get things rolling for the main course which I had Fettuccine Alfredo which is my litmus test for Italian restaurants, along with Tiramisu. On both counts, Papa Joe did a good job. When the bill came it was quite a surprising thing. We had a discount to use but even without a discount, the prices were very reasonable for the quality/quantity of food served. Outside of the food/value we were impressed with hospitality of the staff. They really made us feel like they were inviting us into their own dining room for dinner. On all counts Papa Joe did everything right for us from start to finish. They had our total package done up nicely for our visit trying to hook us and get us to return. We were won over.

I really enjoy papa Joes, anyone that complains about the wait staff, forget it! They are always top notch, no , no family working here. The food is plentiful the bread is really good, when it doesn't come out hallow, yes only crust. Food is pretty good, kind of turning into a quick stop Italian joint not as authentic as downtown places. The decor and aroma inside need to be addressed they are obviously hiding something with the strong smell of potpourri and air wick spray as you enter. The place hasn't seen an update in years inside and out. Outside back is embarrassing cannot believe Orlando Park hasn't sited this place yet the exterior is definitely falling apart and is unsightly. Visual effects... Oak lawn food and friendliness... Orland Park

  • Dana R.

If you are looking for quantity of food over quality of food, you will probably not be disappointed with your experience here. However, if you are looking for a quality Italian meal, I would heavily suggest looking elsewhere. The wait staff was friendly and prompt, but aside from that I can't say that there was anything else that would make me come back. At the bottom of both me and my wife's pasta dishes, was a puddle of olive oil. There was also enough parsley scattered on the rim of each plate to season an entire pot of spaghetti sauce. They frequently have a buy one get one free promotion running so if going out for dinner is a financial issue, combined with the size of the dishes here, you can essentially get four dinners for the price of one.

Katie, the hostess really came through for us as we needed a place to have our end of season party. Our other pizza place had fallen through at the last minute and Papa Joe's did a great job in very short notice. Will go there again and then pizza was really good!

When I visit my parents I always make sure we got to Papa Joe's. Last I heard they still had 2 for 1 on Tuesday's. I always seem to get the baked mostaccoli, which is always great. Big portions. I really like the pasta salad too. I also ask for the garlic dressing on the side for the salad. It's sooo good. We don't get that in Phoenix. I will say over the years the traffic has greatly diminished here. Not sure if that's about the economy or the restaurant.

Like the others, I don't understand how this place gets any good ratings. I bought a gift certificate from Restaurant.com for $10 off $15. Unlike the other gift certificates that I bought, it didn't say anything about not being able to use it for carry out. So I ordered food for my family since the previous reviews said that in house service is slow, and with a 16 month old, slow is not a good idea. When my husband went to pick up the food, they said that they don't accept those coupons. The "manager" (some little boy) said to my husband "it's from RESTARAUNT.com , meaning it's for restaurants." Where did I just buy food from? The back of an alley? The food just isn't worth the terrible service. Don't go...

Went here with my wife and parents after finding Rocco''s Little Italy booked solid. I hadn't been here in years and was a little apprehensive after seeing some less than stellar reviews. My fears were heedless as we had an excellent meal at a somewhat reasonable (Dad was paying) price. They start you off with nice warm bead with a garlic-y olive oil (really good with Parmesan cheese). Dinners come with soup (a very tasty homemade cream of chicken for us) and 3 salads served family style. The pasta salad was good (added a bunch of parmesan) and so was the tossed salad. I didn't try the cucumber salad. Portions were huge. All four of us took food home. There was no room for dessert . There could have been more variety on the menu (pasta heavy) but we all enjoyed our food. My only real complaint (something I vaguely remembered from being there years ago) is the bathroom. For such a big restaurant (2 floors) with a full bar, the restroom is super tiny with one urinal and one stall. I saw about 6 guys cram in there with more trying to get in. Perhaps a new bathroom is in order or maybe a place to go outside.

My wife bought a Living Social dinner for 2 at Papa Joes. We have been there before and the food has always been good, we have also been to a few functions there, and again the food is always good. Last night we had a special menu, I thought that maybe they cheapened it up for the special, as there were no prices. When servers know that you have a Groupon or Living Social, they tend to go one of two ways, either very good or very bad, well Ashton was our server last night and let me tell you, we WILL go back to Papa Joes if for no other reason then to see her. She seemed to read my wife and I very we'll and made suggestions that turned out to be great. On our way out I met the owner and thanked him for a great meal and that Ashton went above and beyond for us, and he said as he laughed that it was proper management also, after thinking about it, he is right, employees do a great job when they are taught and treated well, I in this case it all tied together very nicely. WE WILL BE BACK

Came here for dinner with my family to see what it was like. The inside is totally different, much nicer, from what we expected. Our food was great, and service was prompt and very friendly. A few weeks later our daughter was turning 2, so we decided to look at their party menus so we didn't have to stress about hosting the party ourselves. Mike Jr. was extremely helpful and nice with everything and answered every question I had. We arrived early for our party, and everything was set up and arranged perfectly. The servers were again so helpful and friendly. So happy we decided to come here. Their pizza is always great. Looking forward to going back to try more of their dishes.

I'm a fan of Papa Joe's carry-out pizza. The dine-in service is bearable, but from my experience the wait staff can be a little obnoxious. The carry-out pizza has been more good than bad, although we've had some seriously disastrous results from ordering. The pizza was burned a few times, but they fixed it up, and my dad was charged something along the lines of $6 for using debit/credit(I don't know what that was about, but it was there on his bank statement/receipt). I've since used my card here and haven't suffered any additional fees. Temporary thing? Fluke? Who knows. Give Papa Joe's Restaurant a shot. Go for a very simple cheese, sausage, or pepperoni pizza. I know some mass market chains such as Pizza Hut have us believing we can deck the pizzas with a shit ton of ingredients, but the simpler you are, the better the pizza will be, trust me on this.

Don't waste you time here! We were greeted at 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon by a rude hostess who may have been the owner barking at us if we had reservations. When I said no, she left for 5 minutes without saying anything. Apparently she was checking to see if she could fit us in even though the place was half empty. When we were finally seated we were then greeted by an equally grumpy (I don't care attitude) waitress. Our pizza was served cold and did not have any cheese around the edges. As a result the exposed sauce was burned. To make matters worse when I mentioned this to the waitress she recommended that I walk downstairs and tell the owner. Apparently she just works there which is code for I don't really care. We left with the feeling that we were not valued or cared about and they didn't care if we ever came back. There are far to may good restaurants in the area to go to then waste your time and money here. Bad food, bad service along with an arrogant, self centered attitude where everyone treats you like dirt and you should be honored that they even let you in the door.

**Please note: this review was originally written in 2010 but was copied to my Yelp account since it was recently opened.** We used to be regulars but the last two times have been average at best. Service is slow and the food has fallen in terms of quality over previous years. I'm extremely disappointed and the last meal we had there the food was poor. Chicken Tetrazzini was overcooked and my steak came with grilled onions that were almost raw. Took one bite and couldn't eat anymore. I was even more disappointed when management made no offer to make it right. Our server brought a desert free of charge and that was it. Overall, I really feel that the service and food has fallen. Two years ago I would have given it 5 stars now I struggle to rate it as average. LAST CHANCE: We went again last night and it will be the last time. My wife and I wanted to give this place one last chance since we'd had so many great meals there in the past. Utterly disappointed, service was slow and it was not busy. We ended up waiting so long for our food we didn't even eat our main course and simply had them box it up to take home. While their pizza is still very good the entrees are nowhere near the quality they used to be. But the real reason we went for so long was the service was outstanding. The servers attention and timing was first class and we always felt taken care of. Now, it's average or poor. Combine that with the outdated decor, annoying live lounge music and a menu that has never changed and a place with great ambiance and service is now simply old and like every other Italian restaurant trying to hold its place. I had more great experiences at this restaurant than bad but unfortunately the last four have been bad. It's saddening to see a once great establishment slip into mediocrity. I can't give this place my business any more.

About Papa Murphy

Papa Murphy is one of the top pizza chains in the United States. Papa Murphy was formed after the merger of two popular local pizzerias namely Papa Aldo's and Murphy's respectively. The trend of "take and bake" pizzerias gained popularity in the United States during the early 90s. The growing popularity these two take and bake pizzerias located in Hillsboro, Oregon and Petaluma, California respectively gave the idea of a possible merger to Terry Collins.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
