A nice straightforward Italian restaurant. The space isn't particularly large so if you are going Friday or Saturday night get reservations if you are going to eat at 7pm or later. The wine selection was good and they have a generous pour. I had the Penne Russo based on Yelp reviews and it was very good. My son loved the calamari appetizer and both he and my daughter liked the pizza. My wife thought the puttanesca was average. There really aren't a lot of great restaurants to select from in Northbrook, but this is one we will go back to regularly. Service was nice, attentive but not disruptive.

5 of us went on a Saturday night to trattoria oliverii. Even though we had reservations, we were sat at the only table in the back room near the bar. When our drinks came, the waitress spilled a Shirley temple all over my daughters lap; in the efforts to clean it up she spilled my husband's wine across the table. Not only was my daughter's outfit ruined, we had to ask them for a new table cloth. After that fiasco my food came. I ordered the penne Russo and to be honest it was nothing more than penne with marinara that I could have gotten any place else. To say the least, I was not impressed with service and the food was nothing special.

It's my first time visiting Illinois, and for a pre-conference dinner our meeting planner made a reservation at this restaurant based on all the five star reviews here on Yelp. I don't know whether the suburbs of Chicago don't have access to what an Italian five-star dining experience should be like, or if I'm just too picky. The menu lacks diversity and creativity. I ordered the portobello crostini appetizer, but for dietary reasons requested a simple plate of sauteed mushrooms without the bread and cheese, and that it be prepared without any garlic. I also ordered the Vitello Marsala, requesting a side of vegetables instead of pasta and, again, to be prepared with little to no garlic. The mushrooms arrived on the melted cheese bread, the veal was full of garlic, and there was no side of vegetables. Now I'm not saying that the food was bad. I'm just saying this is not a five star restaurant. Five-star restaurants don't serve cold bread with pre-packaged butter. Five-star restaurants don't offer tap water as the only option for flat water. Five-star restaurants don't have typos on their menus. To be completely honest, I don't think this was the right restaurant for the type of meal we were expecting. I think the problem is managing expectations. It's not 5-stars for a fine dining restaurant; but for your average local eatery, it's fine. Not one in our party of 10 would recommend this place.

Very disappointing! I took my wife here for our wedding anniversary hoping for a quaint hole in the wall family run restaurant. What we found was a dirty place with mediocre food. There is a distinct smell that permeates the air. We couldn't finish our wine because the glasses smelled like dirty dish rags. The food came in large portions but was way too salty. We didn't stay for dessert as we just wanted to get out.

Was there 8/7/13 with a large party. I also reserved the table for 11 or 12 of us based on the Yelp reviews. The menu seemed to hold promise, as it is diverse and not too spendy. I ordered the Veal Saltimbocca, with a side of Sauteed Spinach. Entree arrived and no Spinach, server said they were out, so they put fried potatoes on my plate instead. UGH!! One of our guests ordered a salmon dinner that was supposed to have a wine sauce. It arrived smothered in tomato sauce, which was mediocre at best. Another of our guests ordered the Osso Bucco off the specials menu. Again, smothered in tomato sauce with no sign of a Ragout of vegetables anywhere. To top it off, we ordered two bottles of Amarone. When we went to order the 3rd, they were out and subbed a bottle of Barolo. Not too bad, but they did not ask if it was ok. Lastly, we ordered Kim Crawford Sauv Blanc, went to order the next bottle, YUP, you guessed it, out of stock. They subbed a Pinot Grigio, YUP again, did not ask. To make matters even more "fun", I had to get up and ask the owner to please turn the music in the dining room as I could not hear the person two chairs over from me the music was so loud. I think this place needs some help in a lot of ways, the most obvious is the presence of a floor manager to see how the guest is impacted by the 86 list from the kitchen as well as the ambiance overall. This was a Thursday, I hate to see this place full tilt on a Fri/Sat. $837 later, we were out of there, not likely to repeat the same mistake again when we are in Northbrook next year. I would suggest "Hole in the Wall" or any other local Italian versus this place. Good luck to you.

My wife and I just finished a great meal. We sat outside drank wine, good food, good service, void value.

I've been here for dinner and it was good albeit very humble for the price. Lunch is another story however, the food was lazily prepared, clumsily seasoned, and the eggs Benedict was served with fake hollandaise.

Love love love. The restaurant is small and intimate. I love everything ordered so far. The servings are huge. Their homemade pasta sauce is the best I have ever tasted and their salmon pasta is my favorite dish. When ordering out they give plenty of bread which we love.

I had high hopes for this place after reading the Yelp reviews. Yeah, not so much. There wasn't anything wrong with the food. It was ok. The portions were large. But it was just ok. Which would have been fine if the check hadn't been over $70 for two entrees and two drinks. Which I don't consider "moderate" at all, but shading over into the realm of spendy. If you've got the dough to blow $70 on a mediocre meal, more power to you, but I sure as hell don't. At my favorite places in the city, $70 will feed two of us at least twice, and the food is miles ahead in the taste department. Seeing the very basic menu (everything either in a tomato sauce or a cream sauce...or a creamy tomato sauce...) with no entree under $15, we expected some really fine Italian. We got some very underwhelming Italian. My companion had fish. It was...fine. Nothing to write home about. I had penne alla puttanesca. Now, puttanesca is a great sauce that's easy to make and hard to screw up. Sad to say, I make a better hooker sauce, and it bums me out to pay for stuff I do better at home. Insult to injury, the salad they offer with your meal is iceberg lettuce and a couple of slices of carrot. For those prices I expected better. The only highlight of the evening was that the bartender had a heavy hand. So yeah, I mean, it wasn't horrible. The service was attentive and we got seated quickly on a Friday night, but it definitely wasn't worth the price. I get better in the city for less.

I was looking for an Italian restaurant in Northbrook for dinner. I found Trattoria Oliverii. It wasn't too busy when me and my girl arrived. They have a front room and a back room. The place had a pleasant feel to it. We got a table for two. We were seated in the front room...just the two of us. I couldn't help but notice one of the waiters dimmed the lights as soon as we sat down. Coincidence? Or trying to get us in the mood? lol. I heard Sinatra playing...bonus. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu. There was a separate "specials" menu. I see Lamb Shank (Agnello Al Forno) on the specials...done deal. I love lamb shank, so I had to try it. My girl ordered the Petti di Pollo al Basilico, which was chicken breasts in a basil tomato sauce. For appetizers, we started with grilled octopus. They brought out warm bread. The grilled octopus came out and after eating it I wished I had ordered the fried calamari instead. Parts of it were too rubbery for my liking. My dish came with soup or salad so I went with Minestrone. It was hearty. Moving on... The Lamb Shank. Yes. This is what warrants four stars. This thing was fall-of-the-bone tender....and very rich with flavor. Jackpot. It was as big as a giant turkey leg. Too bad it's only on the specials. It came with potatoes on the side, which tasted as if they were cooked in the same pan. DELIZIOSO! I tasted the basil chicken. Very tasty. Chicken was done right. It was all about the sauce! I would easily recommend either dish. One thing I would not recommend is their lemonade. It tasted like sour generic pink Kool-Aid. The waitress could have warned me. Dessert? Yes please. We topped it off with Tiramisu. It was perfect. I'll definitely be back here.

Disclaimer - I have only dined here at lunch. I actually didn't know this place existed. I first came here for a work lunch, and now I make it a point to come back every so often. They have a list of dishes that are part of their lunch specials where it includes a cup of soup, entree, and drink for under $10. I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered here. Soups are great! Entrees are good and decent sized portions. Overall, it's a good place to get a sit-down lunch and not have to worry about breaking the bank!

Being the parents of 2 small kids, we celebrate our Sweetest Day a day later to beat the crowds. So for this year, we decided to use a gift certificate someone gave us to this place. Located on Shermer Road right next to the train station in the old downtown district of Northbrook, Trattoria Oliverii is a little storefront restaurant. Despite the name, it's quite casual - we came somewhat overdressed. Though it was 5:45 on a Sunday evening, the place was pretty empty. We had a reservation but didn't need it. Service was quick. Our waitress kept checking on us throughout the meal. A small loaf of sliced bread appeared on our table the moment we were seated. It was a bit too crusty and chewy for my liking. I ordered an appetizer of breaded mozzarella with sauce. We got what looked like a 4-inch square breaded fillet surrounded in sauce. Pretty tasty and loaded with hot, stringy melted cheese inside. Good choice indeed. For the main dish, I ordered the special for the day: pumpkin ravioli with sage and butter. My wife got chicken parmesian with mostaccioli. She also got cream of spinach soup, which was really tasty with some parmesian cheese sprinkled in. Seems most of the menu items are around $15, with very few items over $20, so it's not overly pricy. It probably could have been 4 stars but little annoyances added up... 1. I ordered a lemonade. Their definition of lemonade is a glass of ice water with some lemon squeezed in for a hint of lemony taste. Not impressed. 2. The "Diet Coke" my wife ordered may have been a knockoff brand, as it did not taste like the real thing. 3. My pumpkin ravioli, while tasty, had a few raviolis underfilled, which were rather doughy and collapsed in the middle. 4. For dessert, I got tiramisu, my favorite Italian dessert of all-time. It had an overly boozy taste, though the creamy portion was good. 5. My wife got carrot cake. Though the slice was huge, there was an unusual spice in it that gave it an unusual, overpowering flavor. In all, I think it's a respectable place for its service but the food is not to my ideal standard for good Italian.

Their Penne Russo is incredible! Love their Minestrone as well. Nice and intimate to go in and eat but also very convenient to order out and pick up. First had it seven years ago and have been going back since!

This is a quaint little local restaurant with some pretty good Italian food. I loved the cozy feel of the restaurant, but sometimes the place can feel a little too cozy, as the tables are very close together. I ordered the penne pasta with meatballs (you can select your own pasta), while the others with me split the Veal Parmesan. I certainly enjoyed my pasta (which, trust me, is large enough to fill two people), and the others enjoyed their Veal Parm very much. The complimentary warm bread at the table is deliciously nice touch as well. The food was good, and the atmosphere was nice. Thus, the place was nice enough for me.

This is my very favorite place to go to dinner. The food is wonderful...the place is cute and yes, you can eat outside. I went there for breakfast, yes breakfast on Sunday...it was so pleasent. There are trees for shade and it's fun to be outside. The penne russo is the most wonderful pasta dish ever!! The staff is so helpful and nice...Jack is the bartender and he's awesome! I'm going there tonight for dinner...can't wait.

Back here after a few years; this place is the definition of pedestrian. We came here because Francescas had one of those abominable families with out of control children in charge of the dining room and we couldn't find anything on the menu to justify the pain. Oliverii was quieter. Entrees come with a salad or soup. the salad is pretty much head lettuce with little else. The soup was minestrone or manhattan clam chowder. Since I'm partial to a good minestrone I had the chowder. It was one of the runny orange soups with no character; the clam pieces were minscule. But then, the clams in the vongole are really small too. I had the Talapia; it came with some big carrot slices and steamed broccoli; the talapia was pretty soft but tasted okay. i skipped the vegetables. The server by the way was straight from Glenview. If you enter in the back there is an inexplicably terrible odor. A number of people were sitting in the bar area, apparently not effected. Maybe they are the ones giving this place good reviews.

Cozy and Intimate little Italian joint in downtown Northbrook. I have been coming here for a long time now...six years of dating too long..haha... My boyfriend's family are Northbrookers so his family has grown up with the now closed Toneli's restaurant down the street. (Walgreens bought the Toneli's lot and the family didn't want to continue the family tradition..) So since Toneli'e has closed down we have replaced the family tradition to Oliverii or The Italian Kitchen. The staff is super nice and their food is pretty good but I've had little bit better Italian. We live in the city of mobsters, Tommy Guns, Al Capone and great Italian food, lots of competition. Try their Penne Russo, I heart their Penne Russo! (I have read to try it with meatballs so I will definitely do that on my next visit) Also try their salads and soups they have never been disappointing, which is another reason why I like coming to this place they are always consistent and they server good size dishes. This is a good place for a quite date night with your significant other.

UNPROFESSIONAL, UNSANITARY, AND UNDESERVING OF YOUR BUSINESS The only reason I am giving one star is because 0 stars is not an option. Recently went to the restaurant with my girlfriend, and got seated outside (which is what we wanted). However, besides being packed together like cattle and having the train station less than 100 ft away the service took a nosedive from the very beginning. Our waiter was terrible....slow, unprofessional, and straight up forgot about us. After waiting for over 20 minutes, I had to go inside and talk to the manager so we could even get our bill to leave. Not to mention our drinks only got re-filled once, and that was by the nice bus boy. (I know you can't judge an entire establishment on the service of one waiter making less than minimum wage but it gets worse). After unwrapping my fork for my salad, I found crusted on food that obviously didn't get cleaned in the dishwasher. After eating most of our pizza, I lifted up a slice to find a similar finding on the platter (expect this food had actually molded at some point). The cherry on top was when I discussed these events with the manager (or owner not really sure) I got the response, "ah shit that's gross". We were also not comped in any way for the dismal experience. Avoid this place at all costs, easily the worst service I have seen at a restaurant... EVER!

I was there this past Saturday for a nice dinner with my girl friends. One of the girls had found it and read the reviews. Based on the reviews, she booked a reservation as she thought it would be really busy. When we arrived at 6:30 pm, it seemed dead, but I did notice that it filled up pretty quickly thereafter. Our waiter excellent, very attentive. Came to ask us if we needed anything several times, but not too many. We had bread immediately, he answered all of our questions about the food. I liked the atmosphere... calm, friendly, and relaxed. The few things that I wasn't a fan of.. every single time the door opened, there was a blast of cold air that you could probably feel throughout the restaurant. The menu was limited. I wasn't really a fan of what I ordered, but my girlfriends all seemed happy. I probably won't go back as I'm generally just not that into Italian food, but I'd recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing dinner out.

Oliverii's probably has the best Italian food on the whole North Shore. The Penne Russo is an obvious fav, but their Bruscetta is to die for. They have the best Minestrone i've ever had and greattt Chicken Marsala. I'm an Oliverii's junkie, they laugh at me every time because I do carry out probably once a week :) Absolutely no complaints about this place love love love it!

Food was good but a couple stars lost on the look and feel of the establishment. Pretty small, nothing special. Appreciated that tables weren't packed together. Server was straight from Italy...very heavy accent which we enjoyed. $15 corkage fee seems a bit steep when some of our favorite Italian restaurants in Chicago charge the same.

This is such a cozy place for a nice Italian meal - service is friendly and I love their eggplant parmesan. While I am a huge Francesca's fan, I believe in variety too and this place is great in its own way.

I've been to this place 3-4 times and my most recent visit confirmed my opinion...just very mediocre. Nothing bad to say about it, but nothing special, a really boring menu typical of every average Italian restaurant, food is decently prepared, but nothing out of the ordinary. It is small, cold in the winter every time the door opens. Service is excellent, staff very friendly.

Deliciously satisfying. I love being able to eat outside at Oliverii's when it's warm out. I can't wait to get the Farfalle con Salmone again! Yum yum yum.

After reading the reviews on this restaurant we were very excited about dining there. Well, maybe our expectations were too high? We made reservations for a party of 8 to celebrate a friend's birthday. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and guided to the bar while our tabled was prepared. Be careful with the wine at the bar and ask prices first, as several of us ordered the house cab and were surprised with a $12 a glass price. We were seated shortly and all went very well, although the service was very slow. Allow at least 2 hours for dinner. The grilled calamari was excellent great flavor and served over grilled eggplant. Most people enjoyed their entrees, but considered them average. The garlic in the Chicken Vesuvios was over whelming and the Ossembucu was very fatty. As dinner progressed service was lacking. No refills on water or breads with the entrees and even had to hunt down the waiter for a second bottle of wine. As we were finishing the waiter offered to bag our take home in the kitchen. NO, NO, NEVER! This is were everyone was disgusted. The waiter brought out all the take homes after some delay. He was missing one of our friends and she asked what happened to it. Again after some time he returned and as she looked at her meal she found lettuce and some spaghetti mixed in with her meal. It appeared that her food had been disposed of and then they went back and picked it from the garbage! Disgusting! At this point the group took a pass on desert and coffee. We asked for the owner and he came over after 10 minutes and all of a sudden forgot how to speak English and reverted to broken Italian to pass off the mistake. We also asked for the YELP discount posted with the listing and again he said he knew nothing about YELP and ignored us and the discount. Everyone was so disgusted over the take home incident that everyone left their take home on the table fearing what was in them. We learned never let the waiter pack your food at least not at Trattoria Oliverii. The other things that should be noted is that there is very limited parking and the restaurant vibrates ever time a train goes by. (The restaurant in next to the train tracks!) Take a pass on this one as there are so many other great restaurants to spend your money with!!

Small restaurant, Oliverii has a very good and tasty Italian food, I was so happy with my meal, nice decor, good service, I like their red clam chowder a lot, its ten times better than the creamy white one! good pasta, we started with mushroom bread for our appetizer, taste excellent, grill mushroom with cheese stuff on the top of the bread(sorry I forget the name again), my boyfriend got a salmon, taste very good. I had spinach lasagna, taste so rich and I like it a lot, please just remember this place is not big, but cozy! Food portion is kinda big, it's good to do a family style, it's worth to rate 4 stars for this restaurant!

High quality Italian food. Great service and good location. Very good spirited staff with an attention to detail. The bread and appetizers were very good. The entrees are very large you will not leave hungry. The noise level is high for the restaurant and is is normally busy I would recommending calling ahead. Good Italian restaurant in downtown Northbrook. Very nice location with excellent food and service a hometown favorite.

I have driven past this place dozens of time on my way to either Kamehachi or Francesca's North and I had always commented on how we should try it. From the street, it is so cozy and inviting with a unique charm that's more and more rare in our world of oversized chain restaurants that feel more like factories for food. Finally, last week, we gave it a try. I was greatly disappointed. The food was okay. Nothing to write home about. Someone commented on the salad being bad. Yes, it was iceburg lettuce and pretty tasteless. The pasta dish I ordered, with a vodka sauce, was pretty good, but nothing I'll go back for. The tiramasu which they boasted is "the only dessert made in the restaurant" was downright unremarkable. The waitress we had was one of the rudest, most abrupt people I have encountered in recent memory. She was impatient, harsh, slow, non-attentive, and just all around awful. She was so off-putting, in fact, I was EMBARRASSED that I had brought an out-of-towner with me because I felt that my guest was getting a really bad impression of the people here. Oh well. The "good" is that we got to sit outside, always a treat in Chicago land, and it was as good as it gets for Northbrook people watching. Something else we noticed (and this isn't negative) is that most of the patrons with the exception of my table and the table next to me seemed to be retired persons right up to the elderly. Clearly, this place attracts an older set and they seemed like regulars, i.e. happy to be there!

This is a really nice Italian bistro. I do not know why youd limit yourself to one dish, they have a lot of good ones. The fried eggplant sandwich is a party in your face! Mellow atmosphere. Right by the train tracks in Northbrook, can't miss it.

First let me say I have been to this restaurant for sometime. I live in the town and its conveinent to go there. The food is fine with great warm bread and oil. Tonight I had the special cannaloni and it was ok . My wife had the veal parm. Also ok. Where it got bad was when I paid. They always offer in our local Pioneer Press a coupon for one free entree up to 12.99. My wife had a coupon for a date of 5/20 and for the first time did not except it because they said it expired. Now again we have been a regular customer for 20 years and bring sometimes 8 people on a Friday. Our waitress was embarrassed and I said to mention to the owner we would not be back. He was adament so in this day and age where business is roug they chose to piss of a customer for 13$.

After a long day I picked up my dog from his babysitters house and met up with a pal for dineso. My friend's check and yearning for this charming Italian restaurant made the decision complete. And it is charming - the interior is understated and quaint. We dined al fresco on a small patio enjoying a brief breeze and scenery. George is obsessively curious. Always watching and studying people, animals, plants, listening, sniffing. He probably will join the FBI when he grows up. We ordered a large of their signature pizza. Since it is known as a menu stand out, the item needs to pop - and it sure did. Thin chewy crust that was just formidable enough to withstand heavy toppings of: seasoned sausage balls, perky pepperoni, salty black olives, mushrooms, crunchy sliced bell peppers, tangy onions, and crispy intense bacon crumbles. The toppings were really fresh! A big problem at pizza places if the meats don't taste fresh or high quality or seasoned, just some sht from a pre fab bag or freeze section. Blech! Anyhow, beside the toppings, the crust was thin but still substantial and tasty. Also I liked that they went light on the cheese and sauce when we said we wanted extra everything on toppings. That and the crust texture and width kept this one from being soggy or a sloppy mess to eat. All these elements conspired to make the pie very filling so we each got a box of leftovers. However... What Italian meal is complete without dessert? They are known for sealing a meal with a kiss either via light cookies, refreshing fruit ices/sorbetto, a creamy gelato, or a rich tiramisu. Tiramisu won the night and it was very good. Look forward to visiting here again.

We were looking for a nice little Italian place. This fit the bill. Indoor and outdoor seating, nice atmosphere. Service... was slow, but friendly. Prices are a bit high. And the food was good, but not amazing. Sweetie had penne rosso, in a cream sauce. I had pasta prosciutto, rolls in the same sauce. We both ate about half, and save the rest for later- not because they were huge portions, though they were ample, but just because they weren't good enough to savor. They tasted fine, but didn't stop conversation, didn't elicit "mmmms." We also had the fried mozzarella app, which was pretty darn good. We wanted to go to Angelina, but passed since so much was going on in the city. We'll go next time. Nice location and area, well, except for the train noise, and good, but not amazing.

Had always liked this place. Close to home, decent not bad food. Did a carry out for 4 w 4 pasta n one calamari, other than the calamari, all pasta were overcooked n soft. It's just disappointing that our dinner was ruined and yet we still had to eat the overcooked pasta that cost $91!! Sometimes something only takes one bad experience. We won't be back for a long while.

Yelp asked me 'what keeps you coming back?' Well its the lunch specials and the excellent thin crust pizza, in fact the pizza is a four and a half star pizza. Best value in the tiny downtown Northbrook area. Last time I was there I was impressed with the nine dollar lunch selection, including salads, pastas and sandwiches. But the thin pizza is the real reason I go here.

The service was good and the food was a little better than average. However, At the end of the meal they refused to accept a Local Flavor certificate. This certificate is valid for its paid value of $15.00 until July 2018 according to the printed instructions and according to the Federal Gift Card Act of 2009. The restaurant presumably received its consideration and now refuses to honor its commitment. For $15.00 Trattoria Oliverii has lost the future business of my family and friends.

Hostess refused to try to make room for seven of us on the patio despite the fact that there was enough seating (it may have been a little wait for it but she just refused). She was also very unpleasant to have around while dining. The food however was excellent. Just don't speak to the lady with short hair and a sour puss face.

Its probably more of a 2.5 star restaurant but my wife loves the Veal Parmesian We have been coming here for manyyears. Menu is limited and not a lot of tables. Food is a bit pricey but most of the staff is quite pleasant If you are looking for standard Itaian fare that rarely disappoints in quality ( but a bit in quantity) then you should give it a try

Food is great here, no complaint!!! We've been coming here often and their other location in Antioch. The review I'm giving here is service. We were at the northbrook location on Saturday around 7:30pm. We were seated promptly. We waited for the waiter and no one seemed to be coming to even acknowledge us. We still waited since we've been there many times and our previous experience were excellent. Waiter finally came after 10 minutes. We ordered the appetizer right away since the service was slow. After we had the appetizer, we waited 25 minutes for our main entree and the waiter totally forgot our salad. We were not going to ask for the salads since the food came already. It was disappointing and we will probably not be back!

Family owned and operated which becomes apparent the moment you walk in with the pride they take in their restaurant. The food is not only delicious but also some of the specials were creative pasta dishes I haven't seen at other Italian restaurants (family recipes is what they told us when we asked) Bonus-it's near the train so if you go with kids, they will be well entertained watching the trains!

Stopped in for a very nice meal with coworkers and we ordered a couple appetizers, entrees, and wine. The wait staff and service weretop notch and absolutely no complaints there. The food was also really great - I had the linguine vongole with white sauce and the linguine was cooked to the perfect consistency. The clams and everything were also very well flavored and tasty. Most entrees also come with a soup or salad. The clam chowder looked excellent, but the salad was pretty average. Would recommend the soup probably.

terrible customer service. Called for carry out- then, I was put on hold twice, - and I waited for 7 minutes. Finally no one ever picked up the phone again. I gave up - hung up the phone and called another pizza place.

My wife and i stopped in for dinner. Cozy and right next to the train tracks in Northbrook with very limited seating outside. We split a bottle of wine and two entrees. She got Rotolo della Casa Rolled pasta with ricotta and spinach topped with a tomato cream sauce. I got - Linguini con Vongole - Linguini with clams in a white sauce. Both were acceptable choices. They were not chinsey on their clams so kudos to them. Overall it was a standard italian offering, not bad but not exceptional either. Confession - neither of us are huge italian fans. We were seated immediately and the service was prompt. I would probably wander elsewhere next opportunity.

My review needs an update from 2007, since Tonelli's no longer exists and there are a couple new players in town. Marcello's has decent Italian food but their broasted chicken is better than their pasta sauces (gravy :)......Francesca's North is terrific but prices a bit higher than Oliveri's. Based on my last review, Oliveri's has now claimed the #1 Italian restaurant spot in Northbrook, in my opinion, my heart and in my tummy :) Oliveri's is where I like to go when I know the wife and I can dress casual and not pay out the wazzou for quality Italian food. I also love the little take out window here and we order out often. The main reason.....the Oliveri's Special Pizza. Now, I gotta admit that this is a duplicate of Tonelli's famous A LA TOSCANA pizza, which was the greatest pizza ever made in the history of mankind. Crispy Thin Crust w/ Sausage, Green Pepper, Mushroom, Onion, Black Olive, and Bacon....yes, the Bacon makes this pizza sing! I just don't get why Oliveri's asks me every time I order it if I want bacon on it or not.....DUH!!!!!!!!

The waiter confronted us 8 about $3 smaller tip than he expected ($16 vs. $19) and did not let us go without explanation. Then all their staff joined him and made us leave in front of our children and grandchildren. I red similar reviews from others ("Staff is rude and combative"), so this was not an accident but their culture. Also, the owner (not sure it was him and not the same staff members) replied to me that he "talked to them" and offered to visit them. 1. Talk?.. IMO, that's the reason they do it. If he did not just talk but too proper steps, it would never happen again. 2. Visit the same place and eat their spit in my plate? He owns other restaurant(s), but he did not mention that. Enough said...

We stopped in for lunch on a Monday, so not many tables would be filled - as we had my 10 month old with us (who was a complete angel!). The food was wonderful but the service was a little gruff. We asked for more bread and it was obvious that when I reminded the waiter about it awhile later that he had "forgotten" it. It felt like he was rushing us out when there were only a couple tables being used. Eh about going back.

After my first visit I'm going to give four stars with one slight footnote which I will overlook. I applaud them for their freshness and preparation. I love the rarely-found homemade tomato sauce which is wonderful in it's simplicity. The food is prepared with care, its piping hot and the portions are very substantial. My only critique is that the sauce was over salted for what was a near perfect flavor. Easily fixed, I HOPE they see this and take it as constructive because I am coming back. The menu is diverse but not overwhelming, the prices extremely reasonable and our waiter was a "real guy" guy who was very enthusiastic. We started with mozzarella in carrozza which was as nicely fried as any I've had, a great start. I had the eggplant parmesan with the kind of mozzarella cheese that I grew up with on the East Coast, really fresh and very stretchy which I love; the pasta on the side, which at most places is about as shitty as Chef Boyardee, was perfectly al dente. Sounds easy but I've found some of the fanciest Italian places that serve side pasta that is mush. My guest had a lovely insalata caprese which was refreshing and easily an entrée sized portion. I would like to return and try some other dishes; the pesce sounded good, the lasagna which looked great and a carne or pollo. I'm glad I found this little gem trattoria and if they can turn the salt down a little I'd add another half star!

Six of us went on a Sunday. We took my mom and her sister. We went during the Bears game so it was empty and quiet. That's good, because it's hard to hear my mom.... and it's hard for her to hear! Any-hoo... Service was good... but like I said, no one was in there. I always get their salmon with tomato sauce (see photo). The salmon is very good, but this time the tomato sauce had a funny taste to it. It used to be a lighter sauce. Hubby had chicken parmesan. He said it was in 3rd place (Rosebud = 1; Biaggi's = 2). I had a side of veggies instead of pasta. I'm glad. I didn't want more tomato sauce! My aunt had chicken breasts smothered in mushrooms. It looked fantastic. I may ask for the mushrooms instead of tomato sauce next time. My uncle had a pizza. I loved it. It was thin and crispy. Bread and soup etc, is just ok. Nothing to rave about. We didn't have dessert, but in the past my mom has gotten the tiramisu. She likes it. Very smooth and whipped creamy. Once the Bears game was over, it started to fill up. By the time we left, all the tables were full. It's a neighborhood place, very convenient to park, and easy to do. I wouldn't go here for a special occasion.

Great local Italian food in Northbrook! I think I've lost count on how many nights that I came off the train from downtown and decided to have dinner here with my wife. As others have noted, their pasta dishes and chicken dishes are wonderful. Great service and staff & a really good wine list. A great place to relax and have a nice dinner. Enjoy!

The mussels (Cozze Indiavolate) were AMAZING, I could drink the sauce by itself, it's so good. Nice and cozy inside, great atmosphere. Caesar salad and Chicken Vesuvio were superb also. Very grateful to have a healthy side option of steamed broccoli. Can't wait to come back for a pizza.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
