Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Excellent food. I was so used to the buffet cousin style that never imagined there was a place like this. Its mandarin home flavor. Try the lo main which is my favorite..!

Generic Chinese food. Will explain why 4 stars not 3 star... Everyone has their own styles of cooking and this was a classic example of how they prepare their food. I got to sample little bit variety in this lunch delivery order for 4 of us. I placed the order online. Easy and very convenient. No hassles. Crab Rangoons are very excellent. Cream cheese and generous bits of crabmeat. I will definitely use this place to go to for crab rangoons. Seasame Chicken was not my favorite in this lunch order bunch. It was soggy and the pieces of chicken was huge. What was a huge no-no for me was dark meat. Yes they used dark meat. Thats that style I am not crazy about. I like my sesame chicken crispy and white meat so everyone got their own tastes. Cant fault them for that. Others will like it better than me. They also include steamed broccolli as well. Just cautionary for those with issues with broccolli. Chicken lo mein was just generic. Nice seared hint of flavor though. Would go for it again if I felt like having noodles. Vegetable egg roll was ok as well. Too tangy for me. Others will like or not like it. I would not get it again myself. Fried rice was very generic. Nothing memorable. Beef and Broccoli was a definite winner for me. They cut the beef thick. Very tender and fell apart in my mouth. Sauce was little on watery side I probably can order it dry and still can enjoy it. They include carrot, green onions and onions as well. Again this style of beef cut and cooked might not be for everyones palates. I like other styles as well. Just saying. Ordering, Delivery, tipping system kicked this place up to 4 stars.

Horrible!! We ordered from them once before and our food came cold. We decided to give them another chance and its about 1 Hr and 40 mins in and still no food!! Never again! So disappointed

After all the good reviews had really hoped I would finally find some decent Chinese on the North Shore, but this place is terrible. Food is overly greasy, yet somehow still bland. I peeled off the coating and grease on a shrimp and it was 1/4 of the size. One star for fast delivery, another for the portions and then lose a star for being gross.

Living considerably close to this restaurant, I've taken advantage of the lunch specials on a couple occasions. Most of the specials are priced around $5 and come with a decent amount of food (ie. main dish, fried rice and egg roll or crab rangoon are included). You can probably go to Panda Express down the street and end up paying double the price for the same amount of food. That being said, the food is serviceable at best. If you're looking to get filled on a budget, the lunch specials will do the job. Some safe options are kung pao chicken and mongolian beef.

Have yet to find a place that goes WOW! The meat selections both chicken and beef were low grade meat. The flavor was absent food was very bland. I truly could have made better fried rice in my home. All of the meats were very fatty. Sesame chicken had absolutely no flavor and the broccoli was old and tough. Will not go back.

I like the food and have been here before. It is small. 5 or 10 tables. But it is great for takeout. Will order it again tonight. The only drawback is the lack of dining. But its meant more for takeout and not sit down. And the bridge collapse right next door because of the train derailment makes driving hard. But we live close by and that does not affect us. To each his own but I like it and so do my parents.

a lovely individual decided to call me twice with the wrong number at 5 in the morning which set about ruining my day off. So, I needed some comfort food to help me feel better and this did the trick. I order from them every now and then, so everything was very familiar. Its certainly americanized chinese food, but it isn't super heavy. I normally get their steamed potstickers which they do a good job with. Their beef dishes can be a bit on the heavy side and the sauces on the chicken can also be a bit heavy, but the food is always cooked well and is soft and chewy. The crab rangoon is pretty run of the mill, but it works because I'm not one to complain about it unless its done horribly, and that certainly isn't the case here. Its very reliable food and the delivery is usually really good

Mandar Inn is one of my favorite restaurants ever. Its got a nice cozy feeling, with dim lights, and a TV playing whatever is on. There's only 8 tables, so its pretty little, but definitely worth sitting down to eat there, instead of taking it home! So why does this little place deserve a perfect score? Well, many reasons. 1) Quality. I almost always go for the General Tso's Chicken, as it's crunchy on the outside, the sauce is perfect and it isn't a heavy feeling to eat, like most 'Chinese' restaurants. If you get it as a lunch special, the sauce gets soaked into the rice and it tastes like a dream! Another favorite is their crab rangoons. They're flavorful, crispy, BIG, and actually have pieces of crab in them! Pretty rare these days haha. Other amazing things to try are: -The candy Shrimp (Its a bit more expensive, but you get a pretty big amount of shrimp) -Pork Buns (cheap, at 2 for $2) -Mongolian Beef (this place is known for it!) - Sweet and sour pork, and sweet and sour shrimp (both great as lunch specials, as they arent heavy, at all) 2) Quantity! The lunch specials are all between $4.50-$6.00. The include an entree, rice, 2 crab rangoons or 1 egg roll. And man is it good. You get A LOT for it. Heck, some of the options could feed 2 people! 3) It's a family owned restaurant! These are the kinda restaurants you should support! Instead of throwing your money at places like Panda Express (conveyor belt restaurants, as I call them), why not support the nice little restaurant that knows how to make food! Also, their delivery is very cheap! at $2.50.

Love this place. Lunch specials are a great value, they don't add too much salt/soy sauce to the food, and most everything is fresh/homemade. I love the shrimp fried rice because they use juicy, tender, JUMBO shrimp, and not your typical tiny-popcorn shrimp. Loyal customer right here.
(4)Michael Y.
love it. Whenever I'm back in town, I gotta go at least twice.I usually split the salt and pepper squid with someone and order a Mongolian beef lunch special. Lunch specials are great because for about 5 bucks you get a bunch of food and it's all fantastic. They have the best egg rolls and mongolian beef around, but their fried rice is nothing special. Salt and pepper squid is just fantastic, just be warned that if you try to eat it as soon as it gets to the table you'll probably get blisters all over your mouth, but it'll be to delicious to spit out.

First I have to say that the man who delivered my food was very nice and on time. When I opened my order, I realized it was wrong. I had ordered chow mien and all I had was a box of vegetables in a sauce. I called to alert them of this and I spoke to a woman who told me that their chow mien comes in two parts: the noodles and the vegetables. I explained to her that I didn't get the noodles then and she said, "oh the delivery man must've forgotten them." So, then I said, "ok, well I still didn't get what I ordered." Then she said, "ok what do you want me to do then?" I asked her if I could get a refund and she said, "but we only forgot noodles." I understood this, and clarified that I meant just a refund for the chow mien. She said again, "but it was only the noodles you didn't get." I told her to forget it and I wouldn't be a bother to them ever again. The food was just ok, so I won't miss them anyway.

Let me start off by saying, I've been eating here for well over two years. I only get the Mongolian Beef, Fried Rice and Crab Rangoon's. The rice is bland; you need to dress it up just to eat it. Beef and the crab Rangoon's are delicious. The food is good.... for Glenview. The prices can't be beat. This review is really about the customer service. "The lady" she knows my face and when she sees me, she is nice. I called there today and she placed me on hold where she just threw the phone down... no...."can I place you on hold"...just slam. I eventually hung up after being on hold for over 5 minutes. Called back in 10 minutes, placed the order, fine. I ordered 3 Mongolian Beef's, Fried Rice and Crab Rangoon's. My manager picked up the food. When we opened our food we all had egg rolls and my manager had some other dish that was not Mongolian Beef. Okay... so I call. This younger man answered who clearly doesn't have a language barrier listened to the issue, then passed the phone to her after I explained the situation. She lied/argued and told me that she placed the crab rangoons herself with the order. I told her that was not true because I'm looking at egg rolls. She also told me that I needed to come back and show her that it was not correct....well, I'm at work.... Just can't get up and leave. When I told her that I couldn't come... she hung up on me. I guess it goes by the old saying, you get what you pay for. I suggest everyone who does carry out check their food before they leave or you could be truly disappointed, as this restaurant doesn't care to make things right or to keep you as a customer.

OK - this place is the classic description of a hole in the wall. Ambiance - ZERO, the walls are painted orange and most of the seating there is in a room that features the carry out desk and cash register. This is really more of a carry-out place than a sit down restaurant. But I kind of expected this after reading reviews on Yelp and what I was in search of was the Mongolian Beef that one of the reviewers raved about. Well, the "rave" was correct - probably about the best Mongolian Beef I've ever had, certainly in the top three. Fantastic flavor, a good sized portion, not loaded with sauce or gravy, just the right amount of that and onions/scallions. Genghis Khan would have been proud! The fried rice, eh, not so much... next time I go I'll get the white stuff, just ordered fried rice to check it out and that wasn't so special. The eggroll was good and fairly sizeable. The final kicker - $4.95 for lunch. Subway can't even give you a foot-long for that price! Next time I have a hankering for Mongolian Beef - I'll be here!

Id like to give this place a 3 star because we did not dislike the food though we dint like it. Some items have bland taste of which we ordered egg drop egg rolls kung pao curry chicken cashew chicken.
(3)Erica G.
Some of the best hot and sour soup I've had in a long time. And they deliver super fast! I'm happy with my choice to order lunch from here, will def be coming back soon.
(5)Jeremy D.
Really enjoy the food from this place. Great all around. The appetizers are amazing. When we have eaten there, they wait on you hand and foot.
(5)Mary L.
Ordered delivery from here last weekend. Food was amazing. I had spicy chicken with peanuts and my sister had the spicy shrimp. We both loved it! Fried rice was done in soy sauce and also amazing! Will definitely order from here again!

What a great find! I'm kind of shocked with the reviews, because their food is absolutely unbeatable. I've eaten a lot of north shore Chinese food, and this place seriously kicks their butts. Not greasy, good flavors, and you can order through grubhub.com if you heart desires! My top happy points about Mandar-Inn: 1. Ya, lunch menu is crazy cheap and delish. Do it. 2. Smoothies. Yes, smoothies. They are CRAZY GOOD! I always get the lychee strawberry. They use REAL FRUIT, its not some yucky mix like a lot of places. They will delivery smoothies! 3. Huge dinner portions. We order from here a lot during busy season. They give you enough food so you have lunch the next day.

Having read some reviews here that the food is really good, and other reviews that the food is bland, I went here with a strategy. I ordered from the "oriental" section, which is supposed, I guess, to be the dishes that only native Chinese will enjoy. IOW, too spicy or too pungent for people like me. So I ordered chicken with salted fish fried rice, and flank steak with black pepper. The person actually asked me if I had ever had the salted fish fried rice before--trying to warn me that I might not be able to handle it. Both of these 'authentic' dishes were very bland. As were the eggrolls. We ate enough to be mildly full and threw the remainder (which was considerable) out.... I can't recommend this place.

Portions here are at least average if not better. The food, i thought, was great. I had the Pork Lo Mein with crab rangoon. The lo mein was great and the crab rangoon was not only delicious but different. They leave small dices of the onion or chive or whatever in the creamy mixture and it really helps add to the flavor. The owners seemed nice enough and my buddy swears by the place, however i was pretty annoyed when i ordered the lunch special and didn't get the fried rice that is included with the meal. Definitely worth trying. I suggest take out, although they do offer in house seating, its very small. i would assume around 25-30 people, max. *** Went back here and got the crab rangoon, pork chow fun, and beef fried rice. My girlfriend thinks the food lacks flavor and is just very bland in general. I have definitely had more flavorful chow fun and the fried rice seemed too plain, not enough egg and maybe not enough sprouts and onion or soy sauce lol. The crab rangoon is still delicious but if you are not a fan of onion, stay away. they leave chunks of onion or chive and this time chunks of crab (pretty sure it was fake), it was delicious. Service was slightly lacking but very polite and nice.

It's not often when I'm in the mood for some Chinese. And from my experience with these typical hole-in-the-wall types of joints, the food is the same ridiculous quality. Just by walking into the restaurant, I decided I was taking my food to go. I'm not gonna judge a book by its cover. So I ordered the Szechaun Chicken lunch special with the choice of crab rangoons and vegetable fried rice. The rangoons were the only part of the special that was flavorful. The chicken just smelled old and very chewy and hard. And so were the rice. I thought I was biting down on marbles or pellets.

Great Chinese! I was looking for a Chinese Restaurant that delivered and decided to give Northtown Mandar-Inn a try. I was pleasantly surprised! The Mongolian beef was delicious, as was the orange chicken and pot stickers. I especially love the fried won tons, I just wish it came with a container of sauce. Instead they give you packets, which I don't love. Overall, I'm very happy with the food!
(5)Conly D.
Don't be fooled by their mini-mall location. It's a small place with 5 or 6 tables, but definitely worth the trip in. Great lunch specials and the food is great! They offer $4.95 lunch specials that include an eggroll, rice and entree. Their eggrolls are an 7.5 on scale to 10, too.
(4)Amy A.
If you look at my other reviews, I RARELY leave bad reviews. However, this place deserves it. Just got delivery for lunch. The prices can't be beat. Chicken lunch specials under $5 and Beef and shrimp lunch specials for under $5.50 or less. So if you have no money and you want to eat lunch, this is the place for you. You get a lot of food for a small price. However, that's where the good ends. The fried rice is very bland and under-seasoned and the rice is very dry. The sauces in the meat dishes are very runny. And the egg roll looks NOTHING like the ones they have on their website. The website shows thin crunchy light egg rolls. However, on the one I got, there was so much thick goopy dough on my egg roll that I couldn't even eat it because it was all gummy inside. And I'm not sure if they put my smoothie with all the hot food, but it was completely melted and WARM when I got it.

I am very surprised by some of the comments about the Mandar Inn. We order from them on a regular basis and have never been disappointed. We have tried several of their dishes: beef, pork, chicken and shrimp and everything is delicious. We always pickup our order so I cannot speak about their delivery. I highly recommend Mandar Inn!
(5)Annie T.
Horrible customer service. After being a good customer for several months, we placed a recent order that took one hour and 20 minutes to arrive. Called to check in on delivery status and were told the driver would be there any minute. Called again 20 minutes later and told the same thing. When driver finally arrived, he was completely rude - told us that we live too far away (then don't offer to deliver to our area!), and that we don't tip well (not true, and they also charge a $2 delivery fee, so how much tip on top of that do they expect, especially when showing up 50 minutes past the promised delivery time?), and then told us that we placed our order online and if we want better service then we should call the order in (again, why have an online ordering system if they do not really use it?). We handed the food back and requested a refund and we will never order from this restaurant again. They are completely rude and out of line in the way they treat customers. Would not recommend ordering from this restaurant.

This place was on Waukegan Rd., south of Golf Rd., from long time ago. We had always went there to eat since it was the only place that had a lunch special 7 days a week. It was very tasty then, and still is now. Though the place is smaller now, but taste is still good.
(4)Donna T.
I brought my friends over for a Lunch and the entire restaurant was dark no lights turned ON , dead silent on a Friday at about 12:50pm. Fried foods smelled like Oil was being reused for a million times . Fried Rice had a stale smell. Fried Rice has a very clear smell of just taken off the freezer and heated in microwave. It must be more than a month old in the freezer based on its smell. We asked for paper napkins and got one per person. I fell ill and we could not finish our lunch. Returned the food back.
(1)Ali S.
Great crab rangoon. Small place. Great for lunch deals!!
(5)Mike G.
Delivery is DISGUSTING and SOGGY on top of taking longer than stated which was already too long. The girl did not seem to care at all. We will NEVER order from here again. Paid for larges but the portions were tiny and bland. We actually threw away almost $30 worth of food. Why are there no decent chinese places in the North Shore?
(1)Adam B.
Sorry to say, this restaurant is below average and you probably can do better. Decor is spartan and TV in the corner playing the Simpsons doesn't really make up for the lack of atmosphere. While the portions are generous, the prices are low, and the food is cooked fresh to order, the flavors just aren't there: everything we ordered was bland and very simple. Even the won-ton soup was watered down. :-(
(2)S T.
The services are good, the food is good, the waiters are so friendly! tried there chinese style noodle, they are so good!!
(4)Gabriel T.
It's one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the NW burns. I love there Mongolian beef. If you want it spicy, you have to ask for it.
(4)Yale K.
Mmmm where to start. One of the many hidden gems in Northbrook. I'd say go for the lunch special (which you can order even at night for an extra $1.00) and you'll be good to go. General chicken, candy shrimp, potstickers, you name it, they have it and it's all DELICIOUS!
(5)Sheryl N.
Terrible food. Horrible customer service. They were far more interested in handling carryout orders. Got one glass of water with one ice cube. The "waitress" practically slammed my plate down and never came back. Would never go back.
(1)A.P S.
Big portions and lots of meat in the Mongolian beef. Everything I tried there has been really good. I am not sure what all of the bad reviews are about.
(5)Matt A.
Not bad but there are better options very close to here. The chow mein Cantonese style is pretty good and the egg rolls are solid. Pot stickers were undercooked though and I had to fight for ice in my water..
