So glad I came here!! I think this is my new favorite lunch spot! This is an order at the front of restaurant - sit down - and they bring it you you, type of place. The menu is great..lots of things to choose from..pizza,sandwiches,salads and sides. GoRoma also has a great "go for 2" option which is half of any two items...I LOVE this idea, every "fast casual" spot should have some sort of option like this on the menu. It helps us (the customers) try multiple items without having to spend a fortune or ordering too many things. The food was so good! I got half Italian sandwich and half Cesar salad. I didn't realize the sandwich came with fries so that was a nice surprise, and they were amazing fries!! The Italian sandwich was great (and half was just the right amount) and the salad was amazing as well. There is nothing bad I can say about this place. I urge everyone to try it!! And you do leave the plates ;) (this is always my number one question at places like this) they will come and clean them up.

I went to have a goodbye dinner for my brother. Everyone in my family loved this place. It's an average, casual place but all the options sounded great. I got the "go for two" so I chose half a margherita pizza and half walnut and pear salad. It was delicious and healthy. I really like how thy are vegetarian and gluten-free friendly. It was easy for me to pick out a meal for myself. I also thought the food was very fresh and the ingredients were very tasty. I can tell this restaurant stands for something.

The food is reasonable, but not great. Very popular and good for the kids. Salads were good, but the chicken parm was burnt.

This is ok place, nothing special. Fairly cheerful and friendly service, rather clean. Food is standard fast American Italian: pizzas, pastas, salads, soups, chicken dishes, like chicken parmigiana. Prices are moderate. Good for quick lunch, I would say.

Ordered the smoked chicken pizza in a personal size... when I got it... there was no tomato sauce! How can you call something a pizza without sauce. Also, if this was a suaceless item that should be denoted more clearly. Topping were fresh but the pizza was dry and had a cracker like crust.

We hadn't been here in a long time and wish that there were one closer to our house. Great pizza (smoked chicken with caramelized onions kills it), salads, pasta, service, ambiance, and prices are a keeper! For a family of 5 to have a nice meal that everyone enjoys for $50 gets my vote every time.

For many years, this was our favorite lunch spot at work and we were here pretty much once a week. Over the last year or so, it's gone so far downhill so fast. Food quality has greatly declined, prices gone up, staff has changed and lack customer service skills, and now the menu has gotten smaller. There's a bunch of weird changes like the Coke freestyle machine is gone and you have to get your own silverware and napkins, they no longer bring it to you with your food. I'm guessing this all has to do with new management. All the familiar faces are gone now. They got rid of all of their soups (which were so good) and other menu items like the have been changed (for example, the Caesar salad- dressing now tastes like cheap storebought with stale croutons and fake tasting parm on top). It seems we're not the only ones who are disappointed in this place, because it used to always be crazy busy around noon, line almost out the door. Was there today at 12:30 and there was a surprising amount of tables open and no line. Sad because I used to really enjoy their food.

Great value, convenient and fast. We're a big fan of their pastas and chopped salad!

My 1st time being here since I am new to Illinois and my 1st stop was here and I am glad I made the choice, the food is excellent and the portion to price is perfect! I would go here anytime. The staff were super friendly and the cook was very speedy to get my food out, amazing flavor and no need to add any condiments such as salt and pepper, since it is seasoned really well. Its too bad they do not have a building in Texas it would be the best thing to have happen here.

Kids eat free on Sundays! Their gluten free noodles aren't bad. Their shoestring type fries nice and crispy and seasoned well. Also, their choc chip cookies are delish. They rank up high like the Potbelly cookies, IMO.

Awesome food..my fiance introduced me to this place and it's greatly portioned and filling. Recommend it to anyone who likes pasta, salad and pizza.

A salad place that is a buffet. It is much larger than the salad bar at Pizza Hut but it doesn't have the same pizza. It is pretty decent, nothing spectacular. It is much better than CiCis pizza buffet but a bit more money. When I leave here, I still feel like I just left a buffet.

Gross. (And i feel bad because my gal pal Jelena Z hosted an event here years ago...) But gross. Past comes off a truck because it's cheaper than making it in house (yes a lot of restaurants use dried, but man, once you have fresh you never want to go back). Sauces are pretty lame-sauce and lack flavor but host a helluva lot of salt. And prices are whack! Ten bucks for pasta that costs mere pennies and a ladle of marinara? Insane. Some of the North Shore's best Italian restaurants don't charge that much. But even worse than flavor and price, the staff that just didn't really want to be there. The three that I saw were texting away (or searching for sports scores) when time could have been better spent making me feel like they wanted my ten bucks for lame pasta.

This is the model that all fast food restaurants should model themselves after. The food is excellent and affordable. Think Corner Bakery meets Panera meets Maggianos. I always forget about this place, but it's such a solid choice if you're in the mood for some fast food Italian. Their sandwiches are outrageous and they even have a lot of great salad options if you are looking to eat light. If only there was one in Lakeview! One can always hope.

I love Go Roma! Great atmosphere with delicious food. Very convenient as well. Try the pear and walnut salad, or baked rigatoni -- both are scrumptious. Overall, love this place for dining in or taking out. Highly recommended!

go roma is a great place for quick and unique pizza options. I love trying out something different every time I go there. The other food options are excellent as well. They also support a bunch of local fundraising groups. I got a $5 gift-certificate from a local HS. If you want to support a local organization and get a gift-certificate, check out the store at goboostershot.com .

Italian Panera bread. Very cozy place. Not too many people, which is good if you looking for a quiet lunch. I ordered pear walnut salad and it was very good. Not too sweet like many fruit salads. They also have wine and beer which is nice)))

Quick. Easy. Fast Food(ish) ~ BUT with healthy options. The Go Roma Chopped Salad (with chicken) is HUGE and delish... it comes with a side of bread (just a little fyi for ya). Their pop machine is awesome... Just wait until you see this bad boy..

A great authentic Italian meal? Maybe not? But a great lunch is what you'll find here. I'm not really a pasta person so I've never tried it but I have had salads, pizza, and sandwiches and they are all great. They have a pick 2 option available at lunch and dinner which I love. And they don't raise the price at the dinner hour which is a plus in my book. They have a wonderful staff too. I normally come during lunch since it's close to my office. The guys who work the lunch hour are so nice and polite. And for $10 I can get a drink, salad and a pizza or sandwich. It's hard not to make daily visits.

A buddy of mine invited me to lunch on a Saturday and suggested Go Roma. While this was my first time, he has been a customer since they opened. Go Roma is located in a neighborhood strip shopping center with plenty of off-street parking. It's on the south side of Dundee Rd. between Landwehr Rd. on the west and Pfingsten on the east. The build-out is attractive casual. You place your order, receive a number and food is brought to your table. Soft drinks are self-serve. I ordered a turkey club sandwich, which included roasted turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, tomatoes and a zippy Dijon mayo. Sandwiches come with crispy fries or baby greens. I chose the slender fries and they were decent considering they were frozen and not fresh cut. The cashier was very friendly as well as the manager. The store was clean and neat. Go Roma reminded me of a spacious Panera Bread restaurant. I uploaded the current menu, so you can see it is much more extensive than Panera, with many Italian favorites (e.g. pizza, pasta, bruschetta, etc.). The lunch crowd was sparse on a Saturday, however I understand during the work week it is quite busy. I'll be back.

This place is very close to my work and I am going there for lunch very often. Food is tasty, service is fast, staff is friendly. I signed up for their points system and have a free lunch after every $100 spent.

I was here with a friend. I got the turkey club. It was good. I enjoyed it. Fries were pretty good, although a bit too thin for me. Just a personal preference. I liked their fancy soda machine, too. And free refills are always a plus. So why only 3 stars? Fruit flies. Everywhere. Hundreds. Everyone was swatting at them. Yeah, pretty gross. If its like that in front of the house, I can only imagine what's going on in the kitchen. Or overnight on the aforementioned soda machine. Won't be going back anytime soon.

I went to lunch here with a friend this week. It's not bad. It reminds me a lot like noodles & company. It's fast and easy food that you can sit down and an enjoy if you are in a rush for time. Being a small restaurant, I was surprised how many healthy food options they have on their menu. I also really like their portion sizes as well. They make smaller portions so that it's not too much food, but there is enough food left to take home. I got a cup of tomato basil soup which was very yummy. in addition, I also got the gluten free penne pasta with marinara sauce. I think the pasta could have been cooked a little bit more. However, the sauce was no ordinary marinara sauce. It was a tomato sauce that had basil and garlic mixed in. It was delicious! In addition, to the food, I was also very amused with their drink machine. Once you click on a specific drink you want they then give you five different flavors you can choose from of that drink! pretty impressive!

Stopped here last night after work. For what it is, it's ok. It's fairly cheap, it's super fast (we got our drinks and literally a minute later there was food on the table) and edible. The chopped salad was fresh and crispy, chicken parm was good, the breast wasn't too salty like most processed chicken breasts, and it was moist. I did crunch on something that wasn't breading, felt like sand but it was for a second and it didn't last through the mouthful so I didn't complain. Kid got the pizza(of course) hubby got spaghetti & meat sauce. The sauce has a strange taste to me, maybe kind of smokey, like roasted tomato? Whatever, I didn't care for it and covered it in grated parmesan cheese. They have olive oil but it is light, not the dark fruity kind I like for dipping bread into. Not my favorite place but it was on the way home; we've been here a few times.

I am always happy with Go Roma. For a place that can prepare meals so fast the food is excellent. They catered my nephews Bar Mitzva and did a great job.

Disappointed in this location. I've worked in Northbrook for over 5 years and I used to come here all the time. Food quality is going down the drain... Several times when I've gotten salad you can taste that the greens/lettuce isn't properly washed. How hard is that?!! Also one time they were out of the spring mix used for the salad I ordered so they replaced it with romaine without informing me that they were out. Definitely not the same taste as the spring mix and I would've just canceled my order had I known and gone somewhere else.

Between my son finding a beetle in his chopped salad last year and my 25 min wait for my takeout order while I was the only one there, plus some mysterious tofu??? in my tomato soup, pretty sure we'll never be back. Really bad service, too.

quick italian food, gotta love ordering from here and being able to pick it up within 10 min. Some favorites are The Go Roma Chopped Salad with Chicken and the Country Style Rigatoni. They recently changed their menu (I'd say in the last year, but I've been coming here for 6 years!), where you now pick the sauce you want and the pasta you want it with, more like a noodles & co. type of deal. I've tried their soups a couple of times and definitely wasn't a fan of it. they have REALLY good fries that come with their sandwiches and my buddy loves ordering the chicken parmesan sandwich from there. their pizza is also really good too. try the margherita pizza or the italian sausage. also, if you do come here for lunch, it gets REALLY busy. So either come by 1130 or wait until after the lunch rush at 1. You can also jump the line and order to go (which is what I do) and it saves a lot of time. GoRoma isn't the best Italian food out there, but at just under $10 a pop, you can't go wrong with it.

Yet another example of Yelp working at its best. Attended a CMYE at this location a while back and have since returned multiple times to eat here, because I really like it. Had I never been invited to do so? I would not know the wonders of the Coke Freestyle machine and the pepperoni pizza. Seriously. I lust after this pepperoni pizza. The crust is delicious, especially the wheat one. Then top that with pizza sauce, cheese and giant circles of pepperoni that are crisped up and crunchy in some parts (and gloriously greasy in others) and you end up with a pizza that I will travel to get. The large plank (feeds 2-3, very hungry huge people) is ENORMOUS - we always take half of it home. Everything else is tasty too. A decent calamari that costs less than $6? Do it! A chicken parmesan sandwich with giardiniera? Cheesy, spicy, delicious. Chopped salad with peas, bacon, pasta and mint? The most addictive salad I've ever eaten. So many other options that would take too long for me to list, probably all delicious. The Coke freestyle machine is fun but may require training and they carry TWO types of China Mist iced tea (yes!) for those who avoid soda. The set-up is Noodles & Co., but Italian food only. The service is friendly - they bring your food out, and bus your table at the end of the meal. This place can become populated with suburban families and their children on weekday evenings, but was pretty empty on a weekend lunch, save for some annoying tweens. But I don't care....NOTHING will get between me and that pepperoni pizza.

Our team at work catered from Go Roma and everyone loved the food. The pasta is pretty amazing. The sandwiches are pretty delicious too. If you haven't tried the brownies, they are some of the best I ever had. We just got sick of catering from Jimmy John's, Panera, and Corner Bakery. For a little more, you get more of a balanced meal! Just give them a day notice and they will have whatever you want delivered 10% of the total order, but try and negotiate. The restaurant has a line staring at 11:45a.m. for lunch. The soda fountain is very futuristic looking. Don't get the tuna if you like albacore. They're tuna tasted like light tuna. Light tuna is for people that like dark meat.

Its good upscale fast food.. It isn't anything earth shattering but everyone will go along if that is where you say that you would like to go for lunch. It can get a bit pricey for lunch with all of the add-ins...soda, protein, apps, etc.

This is a lunch spot on regular rotation with my coworkers. We've been lots of times, and each time the food is very good. It's the order at the counter, get a number, have your food brought to your table kind of place, which works well and keeps the crowds moving at a good pace. I LOVE their margherita pizza - the crust is magic. I usually get their pizza/salad combo which is perfect. A definite favorite on the UL list.

  • Chris M.

I give Go Roma 3 stars, but almost 4 b/c my parents like this place and order from here quite often. It's a place to go for a quick bite, as you order at the counter and they give you a number, and you sit at your table and they bring your food to you after a very reasonable amount of time. I get the salads and sandwiches here. The pizza is thin crust, and Tonelli's is the place to go for thin crust pizza in Northbrook. The Go Roma chopped salad is great, almost reminding me of Wildfire's chopped salad, but who are we kidding, it's not as good. I like the Italian sandwich, but my parents and I will both agree that it's the chicken sandwich with the pesto mayo that brings us back here. They have take out, which I'd recommend if you're close enough and can pick up. You're not missing anything by not dining in at this place, as they bring you your food and are pretty much done with you after that.

I've been to this Go Roma twice - once for dine-in and once for take-out. Both were good experiences. I do agree with Melanie V. that if you get there anytime after 11:30 you will have a wait. That said, when I picking up food, they did have a register dedicated to "to go" order which helped speed-up the process. Everyone has been very friendly and the food is tasty!

Fast-casual Italian. Everything that I've tried so far has been good. Freestyle coke machine is definitely a plus. Only fill your glass partially, and go back for a different drink. Lunch will run you $10+, but you can join their email marketing campaign and receive coupons that shaves off a few bucks.

I love how when you work in the burbs, you have to go to lunch so early to avoid waiting in a 15 minute line! That's how it is at Go Roma, so I recommend getting there at 1130 because it gets packed! I thought the food was pretty good! I got a veggie pasta in a pesto sauce that came with garlic bread. Decent portion for the price (about 6 bucks!) It has a Noodles and Co. feel to it, where people bring the food out to you after you order. Pretty speedy service, so I was impressed with that! ;) Update: I've just discovered the "2-For" deal, where you can get 1/2 a sandwich/pizza and soup or salad. My favorite is the tomato basil soup and the spinach/feta pizza. Just the right portion size and heavenly.

  • Kristina K.

It's like Panera, but Italian. The soup is salty (not a surprise), but the sandwiches are decent. I haven't tried anything else. It's casual, you order, get a number, fill your own drinks, sit down and get served your food. I'm sure the other food is pretty reliable, because Go Roma is a chain and they pretty much have it all worked out.

  • Brian W.

Go Roma is an interesting little place. It fits somewhere between a fast food joint and a regular sit down restaurant. You order you food at the cashier, take a number and they'll bring it out to you. Prices are pretty okay, but not substantially less than cheaper Italian joints like Bucca. Food is good, but nothing that is going to wow anyone. Its quick, basic Italian. Its great for a lunch where time is at a premium. Or just a quick dinner if you're out running around.

  • Audrey S.

After going here for many years, I have essentially stopped. It has become so salty that it is become inedible and I like salt. I like the ease and family friendliness of the restaurant, but you cannot freel good about feeding your kids a bucket of salt. The only way around a salty meal here is to order anything vegetarian. For some reason, anything meat makes it a crazy salt lick. Stay away from the tilapia dish. That's just yuck.

    (2)
  • Matt R.

Good quality, decent service, nice selection of standard italian food. It' somewhat plain but since probably 50 people from my work a day eat there obviously it can't be that bad.

    (4)
  • Greg M.

Seriously, this place is pretty terrible. The only thing they serve here is bland tasting food. Just go to Marco Roma in Winnetka instead. Way better than this mediocre place.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
