Very impressed on my first visit, I ordered corned beef sandwich and it was awesome, the meat is so tender, juicy, and thinly sliced to perfection. Planning to try more of their food, I think this place Will meet and exceed expectations

Review is for lunch deli counter. Love the variety. Food quality is always great, particularly the meat, which is not surprising given that it is a high end butcher. Haven't had a bad meal yet. Good prices and portions. Solid.

Always great lunch items. Love it

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place....I've been here at least 100 times, as it's right down the street from where I work. My 5 stars is for the hot lunch, deli and salad bar only, as I have not purchased anything from the butcher section...but I probably should b/c the lunches are AWESOME! They have about 3-4 hot lunch choices every day to choose from, and they change everyday. They also post a schedule for the week online so you know when to go for what you want....very convenient. I haven't had a bad meal here yet. I usually go on Tuna melt day, turkey club and skirt steak sandwich day. The salad bar rocks too, as they have a million choices of salad, toppings, dressing, pasta salads, fruit/fruit salad. Buyer beware a bit though, they charge by weight and there are a lot of mayo based salads and the dressing weight can really add up pretty fast. Take out only as well.

First off, the name of this place is fantastic and arguably one of a kind (although who knows). What I really enjoyed about my experience here was the enthusiasm of the employees. I would imagine finding people who are joyful while putting meat and assorted vegetables into the nice structured form of a sandwich, is not the easiest task but I now know it's possible. I had a turkey sandwich on wheat with lettuce, tomato, pepperjack cheese & giardiniera (essential) along with their mac & cheese and brought it back to a work meeting with me. Best meeting ever. Elegance-in-meeting. Eat here.

Used to go here periodically for their takeout lunch. It is always fantastic and relatively inexpensive. Their dishes range from sandwiches, fried chicken, bratwurst, fish, etc, and changes on a daily basis. Best Reuben sandwich I've ever had. Each dish feels home made. Employees are always nice. Worth driving out of the way for

Very high quality meat and deserts. Every time we go we love the results. We get meat from EM almost every week. I you are looking for great meats, deserts, and frozen meals. One of the other great qualities is the are also an amazing a deli.

Visited this place for lunch based on reviews.. There is no place in the store to sit and have food. Its a strictly to go place.. I had chicken teriyaki along with sides macroni and potatoes ....not the best of chicken teriyaki i had.. I liked the way they pack the to go container so there are no spills .. taste wise its 2 stars 1 star is just for the way they packed the to go container..

This has been, for the past 12 years, my Thanksgiving Turkey headquarters. I'll always get a FRESH, not frozen, Barber Farms turkey, and no matter how I prepare it, it's delicious! I also come here for the occasional steak, side dish, and chicken. The quality of the meats is very good. The butchers are very knowledgeable and helpful. If I need meat in bulk, unfortunately, my budget dictates I go elsewhere (Costco), but for a couple of steaks, or a half dozen chicken breasts, or the aforementioned turkey, then Elegance in Meats is where I'd go. They have tons of side dishes, sauces, soups, a bakery section, and a smallish selection of fresh veggies. And they have sandwiches at lunchtime, but haven't tried them yet. It's great that there's still an independent, small business butcher in my neighborhood.

Very friendly staff. Their chicken noodle soup is so flavorful and fresh. Great salad bar selection at a very reasonable price. Perfect lunch takeout place. You can checkout their weekly takeout menu online. Lunch food is ready by 11am. Such a friendly Jewish deli I almost want to convert.

I go here for the mostly for the small but fresh and excellent salad bar. They have hot lunch during the week that changes daily along with just about any kind of sandwich you want made to order. They also have fresh baked goods which I can't comment on since I'm not a sweet tooth kind of guy. Their butcher shop is great with prime steaks, and everything else that you would want in a fine butcher shop. Plenty of frozen choices, chicken specialty's, pastas etc. just heat and eat. Decent selection of sausages too. Take out only!

So it was the holidays, my dad was in town, babygirl was 3 months old, and I was having my two families plus my husband's family over for dinner for Christmas Eve. We decided that we were going to make a lamb dish because I think that lamb is festive, and Christmasy. Dad lives in California, so he was going to spend most of his vacation with me and baby...On a very snowy day in December, the kid of day that no one in their right mind goes out unless they completely have to, we decided to be brave and run errands. We went to Sam's Wine, the AT&T store, and Elegance In Meats last. Dad was a bit freaked out because of the snow, and I was still getting used to going places with a little baby. I told dad that Elegance In Meats was just a butcher shop and really nothing more, that he should stay in the car with baby while I went in and picked up the lamb that I had ordered. I went in to find a specialty old-fashioned butcher shop. It is a very cool place, with a good selection of frozen pre-prepared foods, a deli counter, a meat counter, and a salad bar. I felt like I'd walked back into the 1950's...When they rung up my lamb, it came to $130, which I thought was really expensive...I paid and went back to the car... Dad: So how was it in there? Me: It was incredible! Truly an old-fashioned butcher shop from long ago.... Dad: And you had me sit in the car with the baby the whole time? I want to see the shop! Me: Next time, dad, we can all go in, now let's get home! -- So we cooked the meat, simply with salt, pepper, rosemary, and a couple other spices. It was the best lamb I've ever made. I'll be back, but not very often, as it left a big dent in my wallet, but for special-occasion meats, this is the place to go!

Good stuff! I recently grabbed some lunch to go from EIM and it was very tasty. So much so I was sad when the last bite was finished. The only thing that didn't stand out to me was their Smiley Face cookie. (I guess once you find one you really like nothing else can live up to that standard.) All in all, I'd definitely go back again for lunch at EIM.

I had always thought of this place as an old-style butcher/meat shop and therefore never really had much reason to go in. Then I discovered the hot lunch specials. Different every day, it's a really delicious home-style meal for usually under $7. The first time I went I got their bbq chicken. Today I got the parmesan-crusted pork chop. It comes with two sides for under $7. I got the green beans & mashed potatoes, which were great. No limpid-been-sitting-in-a-can-for-too-long green beans, and the buttery mashed potatoes were delicious. And they do not skimp on the portions, so it's a really full meal for the price. I also like that they saran-wrap the styrofoam container to make sure it stays 1) warm and 2) spill-proof. The salad bar is good too - it may not be one of those huge salad bars you find at Whole Foods, but this is definitely one of those family-owned style places where quality is superb. The only thing to keep in mind when going for the carryout lunch specials, is that the food is best closest to lunchtime. If you're someone who has late lunches (around 2pm or so) then the food here will have been sitting out much longer & the salad bar doesn't look as appetizing. It's best to go around noon, give or take an hour or so. Other than that, it's probably one of the best places to get lunch at in the area. Be sure to check their website as the lunch special changes each day.

I agree that their products are good but you have to watch them carefully when they weigh anything. I have had them add to the weight especially when I call in an order to have it ready when I come in. They will refund the overage if I go back with the product. Also, they weigh containers at the cost of what is being bought. If something cost $10 a lb. and the container is an ounce and is included, you are paying $ .62 for the container. When I told this to the owner, he had the clerk dump the veggie chopped liver on to plastic wrap and took the container away. I didn't buy the veggie chopped liver and never went back to this store again.

I love it here. It is the only place I will get chicken, or steak. The quality is very high. Some of the pre-made items are expensive, but overall the prices are fair for what you get. My boys love their chicken soup, and the matzah balls are delicious. Nothing is hit-or-miss. Its very consistent;their standards are high. It's a very clean store. Everybody is very friendly. The men behind the meat counter are very kind and patient and helpful. They will even give advice and suggestions on recipes. I'm esp sweet on the slim, dark haired man. Beautiful smile, and a twinkle in his eye.

Thanks to my friend, Diane who introduced me to this wonderful place, it's the best place to go for lunch and definitely for take home dinners as well. Their salad is as fresh as you could get. Lots of choices and their chicken chipotle is delicious. The combo lunch are fantastic and affordable. The staff are so lively and interactive. The ladies in the checkout are very nice too specially the older lady whom I believe might be the owner, she's very lovely and nice. Love this place and I've recommended it to many friends already and they too love this place.

To be fair I was spoiled in my first experience. There fresh meat selection was, and continues to be great. But the first time I was there the freezer was full of muscovy duck breasts and squab (impossible to find in the burbs, imagine my delight) but since, its been pretty bare. Bring back the game meats!

we were in last month after labor day. Superstar is the word I would use. This is the kind of place you look for and want to go to. the food is terrific. the sandwiches are absurdly low priced for a place like this and you really feel like you're getting a heck of a deal. Their stuff probably should cost $2-3 more per item, but they don't. all the traditional stuff, right there, warm, delicious and just excellent. Their cookies are also great. seemed fresh made. issues when you order sandwiches the stuff is not arranged in order which makes it like a puzzle to try to figure out what they have and don't have. at potbellys for instance the wall guides you through your order. they should fix this. the desserts seemed a bit small, especially behind the glass counter, but we later ordered more. still under priced, but very small. most importantly on weekends they don't have hot stuff which is an issue in the winter. when it's cold you want their stuff warm. parking is easy, no place to sit down in store. but become a regular customer. well worth it and the people know their stuff and are extremely nice.

I've used EIM catering for luncheons and they have always been first rate. A few years ago I stumbled on their daily lunch specials and I always go to their website each Monday to figure out when I'm going to drop in for another lunch. chicagolandcatering.com/… Truly a hidden gem!

The name fits the place. My aunt gets meat from here all the time and they have prime selected cuts. I would go out of my way to go here, but if you are more then 6 miles away it might be to much of a distance to go. But its worth it. Recommendation: this place is for anyone who wants great food and have even better cuts of meat, they even have really good pre prepared food that I have thoroughly enjoyed along with their stakes.

We've catered business lunches from them before and the food is always delivered hot and fresh and satisfies everyone. I've also stopped by to get a quick lunch from the deli counter.. They have a hot food station with daily specials, and two soups. I almost always get the matzo ball soup and it's good. Service is very friendly! I have yet to try their bakery goods, but they look divine.

After being born and raised in Northbrook, I can't believe I went all those years thinking this was strictly a meat shop. Oh, how wrong I was. Elegance in meats always has a daily special, salad bar, and various frozen/grocery items in the rest of the store. In any case, this place is perfect for lunch and perfect for someone who wants a substantial meal. When I go in, I am usually the only boob owner, the rest are working men and office men. Maybe they were attracted to the manliness of "meat" in the name of the establishment? I digress. There are usually 3-4 (if not more) daily special choices with a variety of sides. Food is tasty, although sometimes greasy. Their Reuben is the best I have had in the area (look at my review for popeye's in Lake Geneva). So much so that my friend signed us up for their fax-menu service where they fax the daily special weekly so I could keep track of when the Reuben is offered.... Very handy. They also have made to order sammiches. Prices are a little high, but with amount of food you get it's worth it. I have never tried the salad bar because it looks a little suspect. I recommend sticking to the hotbar/Daily special items. I have bought some frozen items that were delicious and heated up perfectly, but for the price I can prolly find better frozen fare. The service is also great. The owner and other employees are nice, friendly, relaxing and courteous. Anything you could ask for in stellar service.

This place does double duty for me. When I plan my dinners ahead of time like a good mom then I get to E and M for the butcher shop. Meats are always of high quality and the pro butchers can cut it the way you wish. They can even help with cooking ideas. The baby back ribs are great when they have a sale. You can stock up and the guys will cut them and pack them for the freezer. Then when I am the lazy mom (or the mom that has to hit the sale rack at Nordstrom rack) I'll come by at lunch time and buy from the lunch assortment. They are really great entrees with choice of potato and vegetable. You get a dinner roll and then a fresh salad from the salad bar and then it's re-heated for dinner. Whether I'm the Good mom or lazy mom Eand M still fills the bill.

I am new to Northbrook and I wasn't sure if I would be able to find a good butcher. My worries were misplaced. This place is awesome, wide selection of fresh meats, prepared meats and frozen goods. They also have a good selection of sauces, rubs, breads, etc. The prices and selection are very good. On my first visit I bought racks of ribs, sirloin burgers, three different kinds of brats, prepared kabobs and some frozen meals. Although I didn't get any deli meats, that side of store looked very good too. Look forward to going back on a regular basis.

I really like Elegance in Meats. If you are a fan of Kosher Foods, and are looking in the north or northwest suburbs, this place can't be beat. It's a deli, butcher shop and bakery. They have prepared frozen meals, We were up in the area anyway and had not been in here for a few years, so we stopped. Warning, Kosher means good, but it also means expensive. This is not for the feint of hearts. Imagine how much you can spend with your monthly Costo visits, and fit that into one or two grocery bags. For those who keep Kosher, this may be your only option, for Kosher style they are also very good. The idea was to grab a few things for a Passover Seder. Two boxes of Matzos, two bags of frozen Matzo Balls, two Passover cakes, macaroons, Potato Kugel and Spinach and mushrooms almost rounded out the visit. But, we can't get Kishka in Palatine, so we had to get a couple of pounds. We've used Elegance in Meats for catering in the past and they did a great job. And, they are friendly and helpful. Overall, a great experience.
