We came here for our New Year's Eve dinner. But first the disappointment, CQ had their signature Prime Rib on the menu, but they ran out. OK not a problem, so I got the New York cut Strip Steak, and it was beyond unbelievably delicious. The steak just melts in your mouth. George's potato's were delicious as always and the vegetable side (green beans) were done to perfection, had the slight buttery flavor.

6 stars for that fried calamari! Lightly battered, crisp squid and the perfect chunky marinara. But it was downhill from there. I think the cod fish and chips would have have been great with a dark beer. The battered shrimp was not worth the effort; why was the zucchini not thinly sliced, battered, and fried? Monica the server was adorable, although you can hear everything when she's talking at the bar. She called me weird a number of times. Bahaha. I could clearly hear everything. Probably because it was quiet -- I like to eat dinner at 5pm old people time. Also, lost a star because overachieving fancy pants new owner Favi spoke to the tables AROUND us, but not us. Because... we're not white? Because... we're not old? Interesting.

Well...I'm an old fart and not happy about change. However, this place really needed a remodel. That being said, the place looks fantastic! Went with a friend and we enjoyed the food. He spilled his wine and not only was our waitress there to immediately clean up she brought him a complimentary replacement glass of wine! I was delighted that the new owner chose to retain their magnificent chef David. Good move Flavio...he's a gem for sure. Looking forward to a future visit to try some of their new menu offerings.

I can't give a rating because I've never eaten here. But this business appears to be closed. It has been dark for several weeks & there is a hastily scrawled, hand written sign in the window that says "On Vacation". When you call, a recorded message tells you they're closed for rebranding and remodeling.

As other reviewers pointed out, the atmosphere in this restaurant is much more homey than you'd expect from looking at the storefront (which makes it look like a bar). It was our first time there, and the new owner stopped by our table to chat and welcome us. The decor looked very dated (I would compare it to a 1980s Wisconsin supper club) but the owner said he had plans to revamp it. We had three seafood dishes and all of them were very good. The blackened catfish was among the best I've ever had. The only off note was the mashed potato side, which most likely came from a box. They had a great draft beer selection, which included many local beers, including two from Glenview!

Weird! Made an open table reservation for 1230, called to ask if dinner menu is offered at lunch time, was told that they open at 1pm, I said I have a reservation at 1230, then he said, ok they are open at 1230. Weird! We cancelled our reservation n ate leftovers at home.

Food is delicious. We had Blue Point Oysters. They were fresh and huge. My daughter had the cheeseburger sliders. My other half and I had Teriyaki Salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. All enjoyed our food. Don't be deceived by the entrance, this place is a gem!!

I drove by this location last evening and there was a big "available" sign in the window. Too bad to see a long time business go under....

Stopped here for dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. The service was quick and friendly. The food takes a little extra time, but that is because everything is made fresh. That alone makes it worth the wait. Portions are generous and hot right from the oven (not the microwave). I will be back and I am looking forward to trying the steaks!! Note: we did not see or use the bar. This is for the restaurant only.

Dinner out at Captains! Awesome experience! Dinner, blue points, filet and teriyaki salmon were awesome! Kimmy and Flavio were awesome hosts and waitress Christine was the best!!!

Food so-so. Atmosphere is definitely my parents generation and older, not mine. Waitress was hiding somewhere most of the time and seemed to be in not the best mood. Didn't love it, can't say I hate it. but I most likely won't be back. Just not my kind of place.

Although I understand that not all people dine out as often or spend the amount of money that I do, that being said anyone that enters any review over 1 star is sadly lacking in the proper dining out category or is related to the Owner. Let me first start by saying that there is NO restaurateur that would see and eat at this place, and not demolish it and start All over. The moment you walk in the smell, filth, and the entire decor slap you in the face. There was no one at door to seat us so the bar tender yelled have a seat anywhere. So we walked to a table of 5 toward the back, walking across a carpet that I would not allow my dog to walk on. After sitting down we were greeted by a waitress that was more interested in giving excuses about why the restaurant was dead at 7pm. We ordered drinks and appetizers to start. After the drinks were brought to the table we ordered our food, Butt steak, shrimp Dijon, pork tenderloin, and souvlaki. All the entree's come with soup or salad. Prior to getting our appetizer order, she brought out the soup and salads, Cream of Chicken was all flour (canned) the salad dressings all nasty. Then while eating salads our appetizer arrived (Really) Shortly after our dinners arrived, the Medium Steak was well done (Got sent back) the shrimp with its burnt top was so dried out it took 3 glasses of water to wash them down, the pork tasted old, it was sad. The meat was ALL frozen as any taste bud can tell. The side dishes (rice, veggies, baked potato) were all sitting in kitchen all day just waiting for the next customer. After walking into the kitchen (on accident I told them) I'm sickened that the village has not shut this place down. After all that the check with tip was $100 for some of the nastiest food and atmosphere that I have only ever seen on TV. Friends & Family I understand everyone else Save Your Gut & your Money!!!!!!

I always forget the name of the place and want to rename it BARNACLES since when you go inside, it looks like you stepped into an episode of Spongebob. It's a family run business and there are usually older men there looking for someone to talk to at the bar. The GYROS there are 5 stars. Their burgers are OK, I have not tried the seafood. But the bar staff is incredibly friendly--Jenny is sweet, Chris is wildly entertaining pulling out his guitar singing live music and I had a great time there the both times I went.

I was skeptical, but then I was impressed. This is the kind of place that exists all over America - family institution that clearly hasn't been updated in years from a decor standpoint, but serves great food at reasonable prices. I tried the Filet Kabob and was impressed. Would absolutely come back.

This review is for the bar area only. We were staying nearby (redeeming a free hotel stay) and were looking for a place to have drinks after dinner. We walked all around doing everything in our power to AVOID the TGI (fill in the blank) across the street. We came upon Captain's Quaters. I LOVE IT. I think there was a little record scratching when my husband and I walked in to the bar, but everyone was super nice. There was a cast of characters and it was definitely a regulars type of place. One of the owner's, a cute guy with a salt and pepper beard, was very funny and I had a hard time not listening to his "comedy" as he talked to his patrons/friends. The food smelled AMAZING! I kept describing the restaurant as BUTTERY. Next time we'll have food. I truly love establishments like this - unchanged decor, they do it the way they've been doing it. It's exactly what we needed.

Full disclosure: my mom started bringing me here when I was still a kid (late 80s) so I'm pretty attached to it. It hasn't changed much since then so, if you dig time machine-type places like I do, this is a fun evening. Highlights are the garlic dressing for the salads, the thick and juicy Grecian-style Pork Chops, and of course, the saganaki cheese presented with enthusiastic "oopah!"s.

Like people say, it looks like a dive from the outside but it's quite homey once you walk in. Actually, my initial reaction walking in was, "wow... i'm glad i was prepared for how this place looks..." but you warm up to it. There wasn't a lot of people there when we went. In fact, there was probably only two people in there when we walked in. They're so nice there. Sometimes a jolly older man walks around and jokes around with you. He's really kind and very affectionate. My friend and I chose to have our monthly dinner there so we sat around talking. They didn't seem to mind... and filled our water glasses plenty of times! It grows on you. I will go back again!

The kitchen is a nightmare - food is bland and disgusting. When the owner/manager was confronted, he was completely indifferent, Never again. Never. Don't waste your money.

I've gone to this place many times over the years. Never been for lunch until today. Took my boss, to have a Merkt's burger. 2 burgers and 2 cokes. Bill comes, $28. $8 for drinks. I asked the waitress, she says YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR EACH SOFT DRINK REFILL. I can't remember the last time I was charged for a soft drink refill, esp paying $10 each for a burger! Lately we've been to Waikiki Beach, Vegas, Santa Monica, Malibu, LA, Miami, Key West - I cannot recall ever seeing that - not since I was a little kid. I've eaten there many times, and I can say we've never been charged in the past for drink refills. Despite that the owner says they "do it all the time". So today was my last trip there. Food is decent enough but that, coupled with the POOR service by the surly waitress, I'll never be back. Greek places are a dime-a-dozen. Johnny's Kitchen & Tap one block away is WAY better, and they appreciate your business. George doesn't. Dont care what all the other reviews say, it isn't worth it. STAY AWAY. They don't appreciate your business.

You want Good Food? Do Not Go to Captain's Quarters. Nothing fancy to look at, but the service AND the food has REALLY gone downhill. Not that it was ever that good to begin with, but now...simply bad. The wine is crappy and the daytime bartender...the bonde (??)...just doesn't like anybody and it shows. This is a PASS Forever place.!!!

Went to "Captain's" this weekend and was reminded why I used to like the place so much... wonderful food, generous portions, good service, reasonable prices and saganaki! Captain's looks rather unassuming from the outside, tucked into a kinda' "funky-looking" strip mall. The dimly lit dining room has a nautical motif, as does the bar. They still allow smoking in the bar and restaurant, but it wasn't a problem. There must be a fabulous ventilation system, as people were smoking in the bar and dining room but it was no problem The place was pretty full, but no wait on a Friday night at 7:30. Good mix of families, couples and "older folks" enjoying a night out. I had the sauteed Walleye Pike. It was a nice, large piece of fish. I could tell that it was very fresh and it was prepared perfectly. A squeeze of lemon and I savored every bite. Tartar sauce? NO THANKS, NOT NECESSARY! My fish was served with fresh broccoli and carrots with a side of "George's potatoes" (potatoes, roasted with onions, green pepper and Greek seasonings-- yum!) My date had the Mediterranean style Roughy, which was broiled with a light red sauce and cherry tomatoes. It, too, was delicious! All entrees are served with a salad or soup. They were both under $20. TAKE THAT BOB CHINN'S!! I've had steaks there in the past and, while not prime, they're very acceptable (and reasonable). If you're looking for a good, solid, restaurant in the area give this place a try. George has been in the same location for 30 years...there's a reason for it!

My family and I have been coming here since before I was born! Hands down, best Saganaki there is...including all of Greek town. They have a fantastic, traditional Greek salad that is divine. My sister is obsessed with their Chicken Lemon Soup. My dad gets the perch everytime he goes...he's says there is nothing better! For me, as a gluten free eater, I love their gyros (without the pita) - I haven't found anything better yet! The owner George and his son Chris run the place - they are the best! They love getting to know the guests...just a delicious, hole-in-the-wall that you need to try ASAP!

Went there for lunch with a friend during the weekend. We were the only 2 people in the entire place. The food was ok but everything seemed to be fried, no grilled or baked options. This is enough for me not to return. Service was ok, food was on the greasy side.

So sorry to kill the 5 star winning streak, but this place did not fulfill its Yelp reputation. I expected to see a Seafood Platter, but no platters or even combinations. I ordered the Perch; I was not pleased and asked for something else. I got the fired shrimp and it was very good. Plump in size, lightly breaded, not greasy and tail off! I may have been a little picky on the Perch but my buddy had it and he said it was "just alright" Pretty good variety on the menu except for the above mentioned annoyance of no combinations. I thought the prices were a little high. I do not plan to go back.

After months of driving pass this place I finally decided to give it a try due to the yelp reviews and I was severly disappointed. We went during lunch hours and the food was okay but nothing special, the atmosphere was much to be desired and the service was very lacking. We were the only table there and we had to hunt down the waitress to get refills on our drinks. I was not impressed at all and will not be returning there again.

After reading all the great reviews, we decided to try this place last Friday. I dont really know what I was expecting but this wasnt it. We walked in and we were the only people in there under the age of 50. I sort of expected at least a few younger couples seeing as it was 7pm on a Friday night but we were definitely the youngest ones there. The saganaki was good but the filet mignon I ordered was very undercooked and we kept having to track down the waiter for refills or anything we needed. I wouldnt recommend this place at all for anyone under the age of 40.

I have been going to The Captain's Quarters for over 5 years now. Every dish I have ever tried has been exceptional. I was there just last night and one of the regulars (there are many) told me that someone from the restaurant calls her personally to let her know when her favorite dish is being featured on the "specials" list. Talk about personal service. The dishes are homemade with "TLC" not often found anymore in this era of "chain restaurants." This wonderful restaurant has been owned and run by the same family since its beginnings over 3 decades ago. You have to be doing something right if you can stay in the restaurant business for so long. "Hats off" to the family and food at The Captains Quarters.

Comfy and cozy restaurant and bar. Steaks, shish-kebabs, burgers, seafood - they've got it all, and it's all top-notch. Try George's potatoes; they're the best!

Fresh delicious food! The service was prompt and polite. Even the bread before the meal was good! Warm, soft, and fresh. Entrees come with soup or salad; my husband had clam chowder which was made from scratch and I had salad which included cucumber, bell pepper, and tomatoes on fresh mixed greeds. No complaints! The new owner went to each table to ask if the food and service was superb and it was! My husband had the Shrimp de'Joure and I had the salmon teriyaki and we cleaned our plates. Wonderful!!

Food was really good. We had the filet and prime rib and lobster tail. Filet was cooked perfect and much better than expected. So was the prime rib. We also did the crab cake which was just ok and the saganaki that was good. It has a fun ship wreck ambiance and we would definitely go back.

My family has been Patronizing Captains Quarters for as long as I can Remember , So when I heard a new owner had taken Over , I was concerned that it may not be as good as it consistently was!! Well I'm here to Report that it is NEW & IMPROVED !! And Thankfully has still Kept the charming Cozy Family Atmosphere with Improved Decor!! The Food is Always Top notch & reasonably priced with emphasis on Sea Food & the Cocktails are always generous & affordable !! The New owner Flavio goes above & Beyond to make you Feel welcome & well taken Care of. I have no idea why there would be any negative reviews except For that those individuals just enjoy being overly Critical , The new owners definitely Have my vote of confidence for keeping the Good & making things even better !! We Shall return & tell all our friends how great it is !!!! Oops almost forgot !!! Best Martinis EVER !!!

OMG new managment and WOW updated food! They kept my favorite saganaki in the entire world - they are keeping MUCH of the old school charm from the last 30 plus years BUT they are updating the interior In a way to keep the old things but making old more modern if it makes sense. The food is very well priced. This is a foodies comfort food place. Fillets at $28 and petite fillets at $17 but you have to try their lobster bisque. The rainbow trout is phenomenal.

Decided to give this place a go after passing on it for almost four years, the deal clincher was a $20 for $40 Yelp deal. Thx Yelp. The location is in a strip mall so that can put some people off. It is also smaller than it looks inside. There is a separate bar area from the dining room and the main eating area really is not that large so if you have to wait for a table, you are either in the bar, or awkwardly standing in the hall. I was boring and opted for a cheeseburger which I recall as being average and washed it down with and Old Style. Also heads up - older folks like eating here so don't be surprised if you find yourself one of the younger ones in the room. The service was decent and so was the food.

Yet another place that my parents love, but in more recent days. I don't know what prompted them to start coming here but I joined them for a couple occasions and it wasn't too bad! I've only had the seafood here, not the giant steaks or anything like that - but the food is delicious (especially the Mediterranean Tilapia with the sauce they put on top)! My dad was given the biggest steak I've ever seen (he couldn't finish it and he always finishes his steaks). Each time I come here, everyone who is dining loves their food. While it's a bit pricey, it's still cheaper than chain steakhouses & seafood restaurants (Outback, etc.) and much cozier & personal. The place is decorated with fish and netting and other sea-related decor. The lights are dim (not too low, though) which add to a cozy feel. The owner of the restaurant comes out to socialize with the patrons and the waiter we usually have is very conversational and friendly. You feel very welcome and important here. Oh, I forgot to mention: there is also a bar at the front of the restaurant where you can get some drinks while waiting for a table and watch the game. For such a hole in the wall place in a tiny strip mall that you'd probably miss if you were driving by, it's really a great place to go!

A nice unique looking fish and steak place. Nothing too special on outside of this small place in a strip mall. The inside has a little diner and bar area. The owner was talking about how his place has been at this location for forty years. he must be doing something right. The food was OK nothing special and not too far off from Long John Silvers. This place is basically long John Silvers meets Ponderosa. being that there are hardly anymore of these places in the Chicago area then this place is pretty special.
