It's been years since I last visited this TBK. After the bad service at the Niles location and the gristle beef at the Des Plaines location, I was done with them for a while. But I'm still a sucker for Mexican. I took a chance on this place coming in for lunch since we were in the area. Good choice. I got a Junior steak burrito and cheese nachos and my usual horchata drink.. My son got a chicken burrito and beans. My wife had the vegie burrito. The meal was ready pretty quickly and it was a well-stuffed burrito in each case. They still do it right, with loaded burritos and generous servings, the way it used to be when I first fell in love with TBK. The interior of the restaurant was redone since my visit long ago, much nicer on the inside than the overall exterior, which looks rather plain and dull. Our dining booth was spacious. Good to be able to enjoy once again what once was my favorite burrito.

First I've eaten here quite a few times in the past, and started again recently. I have never gotten sick. I usually get the combo plate which has a taco, quesadilla, and a tamale. On Saturdays it is the deal of the day and it is even better deal. It is very tasty and consistent. Also if you want a large burrito this is a place to go to. Cons:The dinner rush can make it a little hectic, and there can be a few drunk "dudes" who love to hang out there. Hidden pro: the cashier loves watching gang related movies, but if you are lucky he may put it on Icarly. I was surprised!

Got severe food poisoning from here. My wife and my son all got sick the same. Dirty food.

Food here may be cooked by mexicans but it sure don't taste like mexican food..figuring all the tbk's are the same i ordered the chicken torta.the one down the street has shreded chicken with onions..this one had little tasteless cubes of some thing i guess was chicken.. tasted dried out and like shit and thats giving it a compliment.. And the price on them are outragous $5.95 avacadoe a buck xtra..well needlesss to say i won't be going back to this shit hole anytime soon..for the 30 bucks i spent on 3 tortas n a tamale i should have gone to pepe's across the street..better yet there's a taco joint down the street on harlem and diversey...it's REAL mexican food there shoulda went there in the first place, and its CHEAPER 4 bucks for a torta WITH avacadoe..oh well live and learn huh..go some place else if you want mexican food this shits like mc donalds only the name is different..

Tbk!!!! I love this place and this location more than the one by belmont!. Late night munchies...check!! Yummy food check!! Can't wait to come back!!

  • Ella B.

Going to this location was a big mistake. I usually go to the one in the Harlem Irving Plaza mall down the street, or one on Belmont and Central. I had the flautas dinner, and it was just about inedible. The shells were cooked too hard, the "chicken" was so hard on the ends, and the chicken that was cooked properly was oddly chopped and looked strange. Usually at other locations, the meat is shredded, and tends to not be cooked so hard. The refried beans were like soup, and the rice was clumpy. I can't believe it took nearly a half hour in an empty restaurant to be served crap I couldn't even eat when I got home. I would say the food tasted bad, but since it had no flavor, that wouldn't be accurate.

Great dinner plates for less than $10.. Horchata is made just right .. Must try their freshly made guacamole w big chunks of tomato inside ..

The food is fine. They took my order by phone said 10 min . In 15 min I showed up had to wait in line only to find out they had not started my order.. Bad business.

Skip this one, and try the one on Higgins. Nobody here cares. Cold fries (why are there fries at a taco place, anyway?), badly constructed burrito, etc. A sloppy mess.

  • Robert H.

I'd eaten at one of their locations on Fullerton and had a really good experience so I was excited about grabbing a burrito today. As you can tell from the 2 star rating it was a big disappointment. The man who served me served me with absolutely no sign of friendliness. As for the burrito it was pretty good, but it certainly wasn't anything to write home about. I watched them make it and I knew I was in trouble when they took a ladle of sour cream and dumped it over half of the inside of the burrito and the other half didn't get a drop of it. Yeah, it's probably a minor thing, but it wouldn't have been that hard for him to spread it out over the length of the entire burrito especially since it was very runny and looked like it had the consistency of say ranch dressing (it didn't taste like dressing but had that liquid consistency). It would be nice to taste all of the ingredients in every bite and not just in half of it. So the bottom line is I don't see myself stopping in here again. It's a good thing I'd had a really good experience at their store on Fullerton or todays visit would have turned me off to this chain forever.

  • Margaret R.

Very disappointed! I even e-mailed them to let them know about the problem and I have yet to get a reply? Terrible customer service. A friend and I went to this TBK which we normally do not, and the person taking the order barely spoke English. My friend in English and Spanish told him no tomatoes (she is allergic) then when she got the order she asked the cook if there was any tomatoes and she said no. Tell me why when we get home there is a bunch of tomatoes on her burrito? She couldn't even eat the burrito. When I ordered my food, I ordered the daily special as well, it was a Thursday so it was a burrito, and it comes with a drink. He ended up charging me for the drink, and at the end of both of our transactions as we are about to leave he tells me I forgot my drink and gives me a third drink. Um no, I don't need two drinks for one meal. I did not realize he charged me for an extra drink until I got home and looked at the receipt. I'm not too sure why basic instructions could not be taken, but I will never come back to this TBK, I might not ever go to TBK again due to the fact that absolutely no one could email me back after I tried to contact someone. #annoyed

I'm not sure why is ranked quite low for the food is good. It's probably the workers keep changing every six months. It seems that the cook workers are into themselves rather than help out the customers. Basically, no body goes out to the dining area to clean and those guys like to hang around the back area. They come out only when it's necessary.

Steak is made of rubber and equivalent to dog food. Avoid eating here at all costs unless you are on the brink of dying from starvation

I came by for an evening snack on the way to a client, and I simply ordered one taco. There were no other customers, two people working (well, one just sitting.) and all but two of the tables had food and sauce strewn across their surface. Had I noticed sooner, I may not have ordered. One star for atmosphere. My order was taken promptly, and the food was made fresh. Al Pastor taco was decent, and the reason for the second star. I've eaten at other TBK's in the past, with mixed results. The location in Des Plaines seemed decent, and the Niles location somewhere between the two. Not recommending this location, but the food seems good if you get to the right place with the right people working.

  • Sue Z.

Awesome tacos but the one located on 32nd is way better.. This place is cold and the workers stare while u eat. Not comfy.. But take out is always an option the food is good.

  • Oscar S.

Im not a big fan of ANY of the TBK's.However,Im glad they're open tonight since its late night on New Years Eve and everyone else is CLOSED.Guess thats the only way they could get me in here.Im giving them an extra star for THAT!!!!

  • Ed A.

How hard is it to screw up a taco? Really, someone tell me because I gots to know. Well, this place certainly has and will be the last time I go here. I've eaten here before and the food was just okay, but cheap and convenient to stop. The chicken was always dry but the portions pretty large. Well today changed things. My first bite into the taco and I bite down on something hard and mushy. (Yes, I said mushy) WTF! Feels and looks like chicken ligaments and cartilage. I inspect the taco and I see a bunch of stuff that doesn't belong. After all, one doesn't ever hear people offered a choice between "regular" or "chunky". Unless I wasn't in on the memo and chicken ligaments are now some sort culinary trend or part of some "green movement", I will pass by this place in the future.

    (1)
  • Jamie S.

YUCK. Food is extremely bland and doesn't really taste homemade. The chicken was inedible because of all the nasty ligaments and tendons... I don't think there was one bite of actual chicken meat in there.

  • Katy B.

Awesome veggie sopes. Good horchata. Other food looks "meh," but I'm too in love with the sopes to care. They keep this place clean enough. More times than not, someone's sweeping the floor when we show up. Wrestling, soccer, and gangster movies get lots of play on the big tv here. For the sope connoisseur, I like what they serve here better than the version served at the TBK further up Harlem near 90.

  • Patty V.

When I go here, I am guaranteed a tummy ache from eating so much. I can't say it's the best I've ever had, but for some reason, I always clean my plate here.I like the Jr Veggie Burrito with extra guac, please. The counter servers will try to accommodate your tastes. My husband does not tolerate very spicy, and always asks them to tone down the seasonings for him,and they usually do. Not bad food, great prices and quick service.

I live about 3 blocks from this location. So I get to go there on a somewhat regular basis. No matter what I buy, it's always amazing. The beef taco dinner. The steak taco dinner. Steak burrito dinner. Steak quesadilla. You WILL NOT GO wrong with anything. The flavors will blow you away. The scents and colors are most beautiful. Dinners come with the main entree and rice and refried beans. Both are not only amazing but perfect with the dinners. With any purchase I would recommend a large Horchata. I personally think TBK is the best Mexican you can have. Great food and great prices. You can't go wrong. I give them a solid 5-Stars. I don't think there is anything better out there. If there is. OH MAN!

  • Renato P.

"My current "king of Mexican food" in my current take out driving radius. Been to a couple stores in this chain , all very consistent , all very good. To start , get a large horchata , you have to , they rock my ass. Second , get a large steak burrito, I get the sour cream and avocado on them and love every bite. The pork tacos are great as well , as are the steak tacos . The rice and the beans are both good , I usually order a dinner that comes with them. There is a small dining area here , more of a lunch spot for dining in , I'm usually carry out. Bring your wallet , because he will be relieved when you hardly make a dent in it , great prices. I also appreciate they are opened to at least 11pm , I don't know how late exactly , but late enough for me. To paraphrase from "Starship Troopers" , Taco Burrito king , your my Mexican place , until you die or I find someone better!"

It's not about the ambience here, just the food and good deals. Located right near lots of stores and the Harlem Irving mall. The food here is high quality and the place is very clean.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
