Great little spot for no-frills breakfast. Mexican specialties are delicious. Prices and servings are good. Service was great, they kept my coffee topped off and were quick and pleasant.

I cannot understand how anyone can give this restaurant 4 stars. For starters, the service was less than friendly. My daughter and I ordered the #1 breakfast which was 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 bacon and 2 sausage. Aside from the pancakes, which were pretty good, the rest of the breakfast was awful. The pieces of bacon were (I kid you not) each about 3 inches long and thin as paper, not to mention they were all fat; barely any visible meat on those bad boys. The sausage was greasy and tasteless. And the cherry on the cake was that they brought us our bill with no total on it. We had to add it up ourselves. When I went to pay it at the cash register, the total was more than what I had calculated because apparently I was supposed to figure out the sales tax as well. Do yourself a favor and spend your hard earned money on quality food and service; you won't get that at the Fort Jesse Cafe. Simply awful.

This is really a "best kept secrets" kind of place! Check out the specials board! It's always got really good things on it! Usually a specialty omelet of some kind and a breakfast meal (2 eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, and biscuits and gravy, pancake or toast. The restaurant is run by a small but close knit staff that I personally believe is mostly family. You are greeted by friendly faces consistently. They take your order and bring your food out very fast! Little touches that I think really set it apart from your cookie cutter restaurant is that they make good food all the time, they pay attention to make sure your drinks are filled, and they do little things like warm up your syrup. One tip I don't want you to miss... THEY TAKE CASH! There is an ATM inside so that's no big deal. You just don't want to be surprised by that sort of thing. Also, if they don't have any customers by a reasonable point in the lunch time, they close up shop.

Great food. Nice staff. Had chilaquiles con huevos rancheros. Very good. The side salsa is very hot... Use sparingly! Many great dishes with a Mexican flare.

Nice big tables so you can spread out and don't feel crammed in. Today, I had the carne asada huevos rancheros for $7.99. I don't know where else in town you can get steak and eggs for this price. Their Mexican style breakfasts all come with tortillas and a side of beans w/tortilla chips. Coffee is decent - not fabulous but ok. Service was terrific with the coffee refills coming continuously.

One of the bright spots in a town lacking in awesome breakfast joints. Mexican breakfasts are killer.

The food is wonderful. The French fries and the burgers were perfect. The soup is awesome and homemade. The breakfast food can't be beat. The prices give a good value. More importantly they care about their customers. When one of our party fell in the snow, the entire staff came out to assist and you can't ask for more than that. Carmella is the proprietress and even stopped by our table. She does that periodically. I know that when customers encounter her outside of the restaurant they greet her like a friend. The bathrooms are totally accessible. Payments should be made in cash. They don't take credit or debit cards but they have an ATM in case you need it.

I ordered the bacon and cheese omelette. It was very dry, along with the dry hash browns and the cardboard piece of dry toast. I was the only person in this place, for good reason. I had to alert the person that was busy folding silverware in to the napkins, that I wanted to order. I had to alert the person when I was done. I was the only person in the place and I still had to alert the person. Thank goodness I wasn't drinking coffee. It's very difficult to find, unfortunately, I found it...

Being from the east coast, I know a good breakfast place when I see one and this is one of 'em! Great service and great food! Chorizo omelet and the breakfast burrito were awesome!

We learned about this place through Yelp and decided to try it for breakfast this morning (Sunday). There was a short line, but we were seated within 10 minutes. I ordered chocolate chip pancakes and my husband ordered the House omelette. Both were excellent. We thought the coffee was decent. I admit I took my own coffee based on reading the other reviews, but still tried theirs. The reason for 4 stars rather than 5? The service was a little slow, although very friendly. Not slow to take the orders, but slower than average to get our food. We would definitely return to this place as we like to support local businesses and the quality of food is equal if not slightly better than chains. The menu offered several options and next time I will order a skillet. They looked good!

Wow. I really have had a change of heart. We started going to Fort Jesse Cafe a few months ago for breakfast (every 3-4 weeks). However, this past Sunday, November 10th, we had the slowest and inconsiderate service of any place in town. I had to motion for the host person to take our order after sitting for 15 minutes and then it took nearly 30 minutes to get our food. Drinks were seldom refilled. And to top it off - they had a sign posted that they no longer take debit/credit cards. Very disappointed. And no one at all can give me crap about small businesses taking only cash - after reading this article first. nbcnews.com/business/cas…

Great place for breakfast. If you are adventurous, try one of the Mexican breakfast entrees, which tend to be on the spicy side.. The family that owns this place is friendly, and hard working. Just open for lunch and breakfast.

Went here this morning at Yelp's suggestion. Highest rated B-N spot for breakfast. It was ok. Probably the best hash browns I've had for a while but my bacon was cold and coffee was average. Good prices, no wait, no ambience. I'll try someplace else next time.

Very good breakfast/lunch diner. Packed on a Sunday morning. Freshly made food. Local family owners. Good service. Good food. Highly recommended. Definitely one of the best breakfast diners in town.

Really great service, great food. My son declared it was the best pancakes and bacon he ever had.

There aren't many great breakfast places in town. Ft. Jesse Cafe is a sleeping giant. While it's always busy, particularly on weekends, it seems like most of the town doesn't know about it. And that may be a good thing because if it were any busier, I'd still be waiting for my food I ordered there last Sunday. That's the only knock on the Cafe. I think their kitchen is too small for their dining room. If we're just talking about their food . . . I'd give that 5 stars. No frills, but high quality food. They've got a sampling of every kind of breakfast you're hungry for: omelettes skillets griddle stuff - french toast/pancakes/waffles southern - country fried steak, biscuits/gravy I've sampled a lot of their menu, and I've never been disappointed. I love their southwestern skillet with chiles, chorizo and fresh salsa. Order it with tortillas. The service is nice, but they always seem a little overloaded whenever i'm there. One more server on staff may do the trick. If they could turn their tickets a little faster, they'd get an easy 5 stars from me. But I'll still go there frequently and be patient. It's worth the wait.

We were introduced to this little gem of a place by some fellow photographer friends of ours and boy, are we glad! The lady that waited on us that Friday morning was not only our server, but the owner, and she's there every time we go in for breakfast. She waits on about 24 tables and has a couple gals that refill drinks and clear dishes, plus a gentleman that helps serve and checks folks out when she's bogged down. The kids love her pancakes and crispy bacon, the husband is satisfied with a classic eggs/hashbrowns/toast plate or the Southwestern skillet and me? Well, I order the same thing every time because in my experience, no one does it better: Chilaquiles! Whoa.

While we had my mother-in-law in town, we tried Fort Jesse Cafe as an alternative to Shannon's (which we are not a huge fan of anyhow). We were pleasantly surprised to see the high ratings on Yelp, and excited to try something local and hopefully delicious Although there was a short wait (just a few moments - and that's a GOOD SIGN) we were happy with our visit. The coffee was hot and the food came out quickly. I had Huevos con Chorizo - it's HOT, but delicious. Significant other ordered the chorizo omelet, he was happy with this. The salsa is spicy and delicious and we are fairly sure it is made in house. My mother-in-law ordered the meat lovers skillet and was not disappointed. We all left full and satisfied. The serving sizes are large enough but not overwhelming and the prices as wonderful. Decor is mediocre at best, but that's not why I go to a breakfast cafe (it's clean and the food tastes good). We will be visiting again - possibly with an adjustment from 4 to 5 stars. I rarely give 5 stars on the first visit.

This place is our absolute favorite weekend breakfast spot. It's looks are deceiving. The plain, old folks diner look is just a foil for the most friendly and efficient waitresses, best breakfasts and best prices in the twin cities. My husband LOVES their chilquiles! Nothing gourmet or fussy here. Simply fresh, clean and yummy midwestern breakfasts.
