Ssshhh... I really believe this is Niles' best kept secret. Who'd expect a homey local bar near the corner of Howard and Caldwell? Not I! Other things you should keep a secret (so there's more for yourself... and me!): - the brisket tacos! Juicy and flavorful and not chewy at all! - HSI offers brunch on the weekends! - burnt ends are offered once in a blue moon. Still haven't gotten our hands on these. - the fun atmosphere. You can never have too much fun atmosphere! I'm a fan of the flags and sports paraphernalia hanging in every which direction. - it's home of one of the juiciest burgers I've consumed relatively recently. From my experience, the service is really solid and attentive here. (Check-in bonus on Yelp app: free dessert!)

I'm sorry but the other week end my wife and my self Went there to enjoy some drinks and food. The drinks, (bloody Mary's and vodka and tonic so were pretty good. The food (Philly cheese) fries and coleslaw were terrible. The Philly meat had the taste of being previously frozen. The fries were week skinny and tasteless. The sandwich was served on a soft mushy bun. It should have been served on french bread. The coleslaw was soupy. My wife had the nachos. Tthat was good. She enjoyed. I'd go there for the drinks. The food leaves a lot to be Desired. Wait staff a 10.

Had a groupon. Came in on a weekend and thought it would be a good idea to sit outside. Outside seating oversaw parts of the golf course so that was cool. But there were bees!!. I sat there watching the bees/wasps flying around the whole time. They had some "traps" but they just flew in and out. Made for a slightly uncomfortable eating experience. However, for the food, not too bad. Burgers are solid, but probably wouldn't come back without another groupon.

Been going here for years now. Most of the time my family and I ride our bikes over there to get a lite snack or lite meal. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is consistently good and hot when it hits the table. Kenny is a great independent operator and hands on, which means a lot in today's corporate and fast food setting.

It's a Friday March madness night so it was packed! We were seated after 10 mins, which was not a long wait since we said yes to the table right beside the fire exit door :) I I had the fish(cod) and tater tots and my kids ordered the Western burger and Blazen burger. Their food is good, all cooked to order although the wait is quite long. All servers were friendly and nice. We will definitely go back to try other sandwiches and burgers maybe not on a Friday night though:)

Needing fish on Friday and it being Lent (and my husband out of town again and my not wanting to cook again!)...we found ourselves at Howard Street Inn again. As usual, the place was packed, although we got lucky with a parking space in the front. We were told it would be about 25-30 minutes because March Madness was going on, too. I went to the restroom, and to my surprise as I was washing my hands, my daughter texted me that she was being taken to our table. We had seen our favorite waitress Kate, and I asked her if she could wait on us. Another waitress took our drink order, but we did end up with Kate, in the back room, which was nice because it was cozy and less noisy. My daughter felt more comfortable too, because this time she didn't see any kids in the main room. Just a lot of people drinking beer and the special Mai Tai ($5 on Friday), and watching the basketball games. Many were having fish. We ordered the fish fry with our choice of side, and within 5 minutes we had our plates! Hot, too! I'm sure they keep cooking the fish constantly since it's the special but it was very impressive that when we were ready for 2nd or 3rds, it was right out. Super fast. The fish itself is fried nicely. It doesn't have too much flavor, but a little pepper and the tartar sauce did the trick. We aren't huge fans of fried food and all the breading, but it was good for today, at a great price, and my daughter picked off some of the breading and she was content. She liked the fries and loved that the tater tots came with cheese sauce on the side! I had the cole slaw and it was good. You could tell that it was homemade. Again, Kate was busy, yet she checked on us regularly, as did the other waitress. They were happy to keep bringing us more fish, but we stopped just before feeling stuffed! We got the free dessert from checking in on Yelp again, and this time had the cinnamon puffs. They were warm and delicious. With 6 in the order I was sure we couldn't eat them all, yet we managed! It was another nice evening at HSI and we will be back.

Turning into the parking lot I was a bit confused. Was this the place my buddies wanted to watch a bulls playoff game? This place looks like a golf course, and elementary school, and suburban recreational center. As soon as you walk in though first thing you notice are all those sports banners, hanging from the high ceiling. I really like the look of the inside, its like a very sports fanatic bedroom. They have may tvs, and the menu is pretty large. The food is not bad. At the time of the day the crowd was mostly older adults or families. Unfortunately the service was mediocore. Our server deff favored families and larger tables, which didn't bother us too much. But when we asked the server to split the check she gave us a dirty look and swore under her breath , but loud enough to hear. The food is worth coming again, maybe Ill come later on in the night next time.

Great food meets great drinking specials meets the BIG 10. Been here twice now and I can say the service is good and there are plenty of TVs for sports. My wife and I have tried the meatball and onion rings as appetizers, both great for the price. For dinner so far we've had the pulled pork pizza which was excellent. For the drink specials and atmosphere alone we will definitely be coming back to this place. GO BUCKS!!!!

This place is cool and even though I don't golf, the fact that it overlooks and is apart of a golf course is pretty cool. I came here for the food, which was good and not to golf. It's in a cool location as it's kind of tucked away in Niles and isn't the easiest to spot, unless you're driving by and happen to notice it. Maybe I'll start coming here more often if I move back to the area and take up golf, neither of which seem likely to happen in the near future, but still a good place with good food nonetheless.

A total Yelp Nearby mobile recommendation - was running to Menards but my belly was grumbling, what's nearby? Yelp mobile to the rescue! GREAT place to watch the game, round house style so not a bad seat in the house. Pleasant and friendly staff, crowd was chill, plenty of TV's everywhere to watch. LOTS of team bling surrounds you and makes the atmosphere festive. Plenty of options on the menu to choose from, I only tried the nachos with pork. Took advantage of the beer special, GIANT mug of Heineken. I LOVE it when places make it easy, this place does. The daily specials are hung above the bar, a sign for each day, easy to read. Thank you! Tip - Top parking lot tends to fill up, but lower is an option as well. This place buffers the golf course which is out of season at the moment, but the Inn is always in season. Tip - they were unpacking their xmas decorations while we were there and it looked like they had a TON of stuff, looking forward to going back to see how it turns out - We'll be back.

Went with my family for the Sunday brunch and it was yummy. They had pancakes, omelette selections, potatoes, bacon and sausage. Everyone left stuffed. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the atmosphere is a bit bar-ish in that there is just a huge floor with tables- no booths. I would like to try the outdoor seating next time- overlooking the golf course looks relaxing.

I purchased a Groupon and decided to take my mom here for lunch. I ordered a burger and fries. Burger was OK didn't care for the fries as much. For desert I ordered a brownie sundae which what I though wasn't that bad turned out to have a piece of paper in it. I did decide to give it a second chance a few weeks later and unfortunately no good news. The steak sandwich was OK kinda plain and steak was hard, instead of fries did the tater tots which wasn't that good.

My husband and I have been going to Howard Street Inn for years now. We especially like going on Thursday nights because Thursday is $3. Martini day, .60 cent chicken wings and 2 pizzas for $25. We usually go there with a group of our friends to watch our favorite sports team while enjoying the great food and drinks there. The waitresses are very friendly and fast at taking and bringing your order. There is a nice variety of food to choose from. I love their homemade potato salad and their BBQ Pulled Pork sandwiches. I also like their Shrimp Po Boy sandwiches and Philly Steak sandwiches. I highly recommend people to check this place out.

I was looking for somewhere to eat after a few hours at King Spa nearby. Thankfully, this place came up on my Yelp search, was close, and was open. I had a club sandwich with sweet potato fries, which aren't hard to do right, and yeah, they were ok. The service was good and the food came out quickly. As it got later, it started to fill up and we noticed their party room, which is tucked away but a perfect spot for 10-12 people to dine and mingle. If I'm ever in the area, I would definitely go back. There drink specials include $3 drafts, and $2 well drinks on Mondays!

Had good experiences here. Food is pretty great for a golf course / Club house type environment. The daily specials seem to be especially good in value. I like Tuesdays which happen to be two sloppy joe's served on toasted buns and a side of either macaroni and cheese, fries or tator tots. I think the whole thing is like $7. I also recommend the brisket tacos. Quite honestly have not had a bad meal here and the prices make it very attractive. I would give it a shot for sure if you are in that area.

Came in early Saturday Night. Its was packed, however were seated in 10 minutes. The food was ok. Nothing great..just reheated prepared food. Service not so good, took 45 minutes just to get appetizers, our food came 15 minutes later. We were seated near the bar. The whole operation looked disorganized.

I really liked this sports bar. They have a unique, open, high ceiling'd and sunny round shaped common bar/dining room. They have friendly servers, a friendly atmosphere that accommodates families as well, and I noted they also stay on top of keeping the tables clean there. There are lots of TV's and sports flags and patrons can bring in and post their favorite team or school flag I'm told. They have daily drink specials which are enticing. Tonight, they had "You Call It" mixed drinks for $3.25, so I tried a rye whiskey and coke. I also had a swiss cheeseburger ($8.99) and wife had shrimp tacos ($9.99) that hit the spot for dinner. Fun place, and we'll be back.

Great views of the golf course with plenty of outdoor seating. To many TV's to count in the spacious, bright bar/dining area. Excellent drink deals daily. On Saturday they had 24 oz. Heinekens drafts for $4 and the Bloody Mary's were $4.25. Their pizza is pretty decent. Excellent wings. Several burger choices. Tater tots if you like and I do. Huge BLT. They make it like a club sammie. All in all a pretty good joint.

Service was great. Servers are very attentive, never had an empty glass. We ate the nachos, they were good, nothing special though. Unfortunately, there was bad weather so their satellite was not kind. We wanted to watch the Stanley cup, but we had to leave after the first period. But aside from that, I will visit again except in bad weather if I'm watching a sports game. They have enough tv's that go around the establishment.

Great first time experience eating outside and enjoying the great weather. Food was excellent and staff was very friendly. Ordered the grilled cheese but it was a little messy loaded with a lot of cheese. I'll be returning again.

Howard Street Inn is a great, cozy sports bar in the burbs. I have a friend who is a regular here so I finally came here to check it out with a group of friends to watch the Hawks game. I was more than surprised! It was packed and you could smell the excitement since it was the first playoff game. We came on a Thursday and were pleasantly surprised to find out Thursdays are $3 martinis! I don't know if that's a good or bad thing (wink). I had 2 Crango martinis which I was very happy with; the drinks weren't too sweet nor overly strong. Service was great even though it was incredibly busy and we got our drinks and food fairly quickly. I ordered 2 brisket tacos which came with diced tomatoes/onions and salsa on the side. The tacos were pretty good, although the brisket could have been more tender and flavorful. HSI is well decorated with college flags along with sports memorabilia. Definitely check it out when there is a gameon or just to have a fun time.

Really great place to go to on a nice sunny day. We sat outside last friday and had a great lunch. The portions are good and I really enjoyed the pulled pork. The bbq sauce here is amazing! Will be coming back here and I've already recommended this place to my brother and he loved it! Also the service is great. The waitress was really patient even though we took awhile since the person I was with was on the phone so long before we ordered. Now that the weather is getting nicer I'm sure I'll be here more often.

Howard Street Inn is a hidden gem! The food and environment are awesome! I think they have the best turkey burger I've ever had! And they have great specials! The have numerous TV's which can be seen from any table. Watching a game here is always fun. My husband and I went in to watch a Hawks game and to our surprise they were offering a free pint of beer for wearing a jersey...yay! The food, service, and ambiance are great...it's a must try!

I was fortunate enough to find this Gem on Groupon of all places. Go on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday for the BEST Brisket Sandwich I've ever had. Plus, they serve it on a Ciabatta Roll. I liked the Spicy Sauce, but they have several. Go try this place!

My wife and I are always pleased with Howard Street Inn. The specials are always tempting, with 24 oz draught beers for $4! The pizzas are pretty good, as are the fish tacos. The restaurant is set on the Tam O' Shanter golf course, and offers a nice place to unwind. Lots of locals go here.

Did not expect this bar in a seemly random spot in the burbs to be this nice...and packed on a Thursday night. A couple of my friends are regulars here so I finally decided to join them to watch the Hawks game. I wasn't really hungry so I ordered tater tots and a couple martinis (only $3 on Thursdays). There were plenty of TV's to watch the game on (pretty much every TV had the Hawks game on). The manager stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed. Def would come back here to hang out with friends for a laid back time.

Post. Workout. Meals. This place is right across the street from where I coach (CrossFit Illumine - 6663 W. Howard - Go there now!!! *shameless plug), so myself and my co-workers have frequented this place many a time. They are always friendly and catering to our specific diets (paleo), they understand that we (coaches and members of our gym) try and stay as primal as much as we can. Burgers with no buns, extra patty, added avocado, sweet potato fries with a sunny side up egg on top. Done son! Howard Street Inn never disappoints. They treat us with respect and in return they gain our business. Great place to dine at in you're in the Niles area. Check them out.

This is a hidden gem ! With it being attached to a golf course, and a nice one at that, most don't think about it. Besides numerous beers on tap, great food & big screen TV's visible everywhere, the staff is prompt as well. Nice thing is, if you're planning a get together with coworkers, which we have done, you can reserve a table in advance.

I've been here many, many times. I would not come here without a groupon or local flavor deal because I think the prices are a touch on the high side for the very average food served. The chicken salad sandwich was high on the mayo, light on flavor, the ribs ( a good deal on Mon. at $14.99) was too heavily covered in salty rub and only come with those matchstick fries which go limp almost instantly. I'm not a fan of any of the three BBQ sauces you can choose from there. The beef fajitas were awful, the meat wasn't flavored in any way, the meat and corn tortillas (I'm used to flour with fajitas) were really oily, the veggies (tomato and onion instead of the usual onion and green pepper) were cook to death instead of tender crisp and the Spanish rice was tasteless. The cheaper steak sandwich was tasteless despite the menu saying it is marinated and was served plain with just horseradish sauce which didn't really add flavor, just that nose clearing thing it does. The more expensive steak sandwich was much better, but is the ONLY sandwich you can not substitute tater tots (according to my waitress) for the match stick fries which came out as a limp, tangled greasy mess. The cajun pork chops were thin, but were tender and not overcooked, but as I find so often here, had no taste other than plain pork despite whatever was sprinkled on it. Cajun meant nothing in terms of these chops. The pulled pork is ok, but could use more smoke flavor. I tried two of the specialty martinis, they were warm and awful tasting. The cream of chicken soup is loaded with celery and carrots and has a decent amount of chicken, but still needs some sort of spice in it to give it some flavor. Last time I got it, it was very thin and I prefer a thicker cream soup. I've worked my way through most of the menu and will probably only come back once in a very long while if I don't feel like cooking and if I have a groupon or similar deal. I really don't feel the preparation/portion size warrants the prices. I must say though, that when I have been unhappy, the staff does try to offer something else, but I usually just want to go and the others in party are almost done. Two thumbs up are the steamed veggies which are usually tender crisp and the french onion soup which has a lot of cheese.

Good place to watch a game. Lots of TVs, good beer selection and bar food. The servers were friendly and attentive. Prices aren't bad either. I would go back. In the summer its the perfect 19th hole - right next to a golf course.

We drove by this place a thousand times and never gave it a thought. Checked it out recently being that it's close to my mother in law's condo and where my family is staying during the renovations on our home. First impression was that it kind of looked like a college bar - not that that's wrong - but was expecting a typical college bar experience with bland food, bad service and cheap beer with plenty of TVs to watch a game. Place didn't look like a higher end restaurant and more of a man cave but either way I was wrong. Service was excellent and so was the food. My daughter had cheeseburger sliders for the first time here and now cheeseburgers are her favorite. My son absolutely trashed their curtains while using them as a canvas for his ketchup artwork and they were totally cool about the whole thing while we were totally embarrassed. I'm a huge fan of deep fried cheese curds - which I believe you can only get the best in Madison, WI - and theirs were legit and everyone loved them. Wife got a very good turkey club and I got a wrap. Bottom line is that I'd go again with the wife and kids as well as with some friends for a game. If you're in the area, it's worth checking out.

My wife and I started eating here when we moved to Lincolnwood in December. I had been there a number of times after softball and had always enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Weekends they have a great HQ menu including brisket and pork. Really good. Pizza is good too. Service can be a slight problem when crowded but it always is friendly and helpful. Great spot to go to and a good variety of beers and burgers and a dynamite tomato soup.

Country club bar with very good food at affordable rates, decent selection of micro and domestic beers as well as Chicago's local Revolution on tap. They've also got solid coverage of sports games and for those dining on the dime a menu of salads and sandwiches priced under $6. One of the first perks I noticed about the place beyond the number of flat screen televisions and cute waitresses would be the attention the bar manager was paying to the status of their chairs and tables. She was checking on the sturdiness & workings of the chairs. That is a highlight for me. Something you never see much of, since most businesses never look to take care of their furniture. The place is a hidden gem to the public around it. Those that are local or having membership at the Country club have enjoyed it. Clientele is composed mainly of middle aged men and sometimes, accompanied by their wives. Weekends sees many families despite the raucous nature of game days. Food is stellar and I look forward to trying them out for their (next offering) of Fried fish Fridays, having previously enjoyed their fish and chips plate. On my first outing our waitress stunk. She made her rounds like clockwork, every twenty minutes and was often forgetful. But due to the excellence in food, pricing and their booze deals, it makes up for what lacked. If management is watching, I'll gladly share the name of our waitress because re-training and concentration is necessary but I'm willing to try them out again, so long as I get a different waitress. There were some excellent people in their waitstaff team, just not working our section.

Played my first round of golf for the season and went to the restaurant after for dinner. The food and service was great! Our server Michaela was very knowledgable and attentive. I work in the area and can't believe we have never tried this place! The vibe is fun and inviting, the food is excellent, and the service even better. They have a huge menu of delicious items, it was a tough choice. We tried a variety of sandwiches, split some wings, and left full and anxious to come back. They have some great weekly specials to check out as well. The best part was when the owner/manager saw me taking the coleslaw off my chicken sandwich he came over and insisted he made me a new one. While I have FOM (Fear of Mayo) I didn't order it specially and wasn't even going to say something so it was a wonderful, attentive gesture that says wonders about their management. The replacement was out in less than 5 minutes, and it was delicious! Can't wait to go back.

Great view if you get one of the patio seats overlooking the golf course. Food is pretty good bar fare with some salads and a few other niceties on the menu. Why not a better review? It took an hour to get our food. The kids were starving. The server said they got slammed right after we came in. We had to ask for crackers for the kids to tide them over. After the meal, we had to ask for something to be done due to the extraordinary wait and the manager comped us a cocktail. Eh, not enough for the time & aggravation.

Stumbled across Howard Street Inn while visiting my sister who lives in Skokie. My husband and I really enjoyed the bright, sunny atmosphere for Saturday college football. Along with the tasty bar food, we really enjoyed the great service by Erika. She was VERY personable and a real reason to visit again.

Not usually a Yelp review person but I just had to leave a post about a server @ Howard Street Inn. If you so lucky as to be seated in Mary's section, then good for you! She is very efficient, personable & and a fun server. The food is really good but Mary makes it exceptional:)

I would have given the Inn four stars, but my burger, ordered medium rare, was served well done. Otherwise my visit was comfortable and enjoyable. The service was excellent, the waitress friendly, the slaw delicious. The concept for my burger also was a good one: swiss cheese and mushrooms. I would go back, but might not order a burger. My friend enjoyed her shrimp tacos very much.

I LOVE this place. My wife introduced me to this place a few years back and I fell in love with it. The food and environment is superb! You would never be able to tell that this place is a clubhouse to the golf course. The last time we went there to meet friends, I was wearing my blackhawks jersey. To my surprise, they gave me a free pint of beer because I was wearing my jersey on game day. Would definitely recommend the place for it's food, ambiance and friendly wait staff! FYI...love their placement of all their TVs

I really love this place, because they have great service and great food...& on the weekends you can get some great brunch! The T.V.'s are a bit distracting, although my hubby seems to enjoy watching them during our meals there. They offer great specials on drinks and that is quite enticing each time I've gone there. My favorite so far is the potato salad and sitting outdoors when the weather is nice. There service is so outstanding and remarkable, that I'm changing my rating from 4 stars to 5!

Nice little sports bar right next to the golf course. Sports banners are literally all around you. I don't think there's a HSI sign in view from the street so it seems that if you're there you're either coming from the golf course or are from the neighborhood and already know about the place. Drink specials are pretty sweet pretty much every single day of the week . Saturday and Sunday will get you 24 oz beers for $3. There is even a menu for smaller food items on the cheap which makes it a nice place to chill or watch a game. There are TVs everywhere and one absolutely massive TV for maximum viewing pleasure. Classic bar food can be found including a delicious breakfast burger. The golden shoestring french fries are also tasty. Service and staff are good. Stop into Howard Street and don't miss out on good food and drinks.

Once upon a time when I was a wee laddie, there was a huge country club in County Cook's Thane of Niles called "Tam O'Shanter." Alas, the evil MacGreedy LandDevelopers clan conquered and acquired the land and turned most of it into an industrial park. All that was left was a small nine-hole public golf course and a clubhouse built into a rise overlooking the bonnie scene. From these remnants rose a modest hostel called the Howard Street Inn; an inn so modest and small, the sign to its entry could hardly be seen from the roadway. Indeed, I missed the sign and had to turn off into another knave's driveway to return my carriage to the caravansary. Perhaps they still feared further looting and pillaging, so they kept the place obscured, like many of the abbeys in the vicinity. As a thrifty "Scottish-minded" person, my consort and I came upon this public house armed with only a Groupon certificate and a few extra bucks to indulge in their viands. We were graciously escorted from our entry by a maiden who proffered us a bill of fare, and a serving wench imposed herself upon us even before we had a chance to seat ourselves. She graciously accepted my order of Diet Pepsi ale and kept my cup brimming - yea, even before I ordered my repast. OK, enough with the quaint language. This place is really a very nice, bright, neat, clean, and cheerful sports bar that has an excellent view of the fairway, and is equipped with a dozen TV screens showing different sporting events, and is decorated with many types of sport memorabilia. Most of the entrees consist of sandwiches and snacks - the usual sports bar stuff, but nicely and freshly prepared. The sandwiches (and fries) were not greasy, and prepared with a lot of care. We were not super-hungry, so I had a hamburger, and Mrs. B ordered a brisket sandwich (the special of the day). Service was very good, friendly, and prompt. The "serving wench" was particularly kind and interested in our satisfaction (unless she was fishing for tips!). Most sandwiches range in price from $8 to about $11, and they do offer some full-service dishes in the $10-15 range. They also have a few snack entries for about $3-5. They also offer drink specials and incentives. I really enjoyed our visit, and I will endeavor to visit the Howard Street Inn in the future. Guid cheerio the nou!

Dear Yelp: MORE STARS PLEASE. We revisited HSI a few days ago ostensibly to watch the Hawks game, but also to see if they were really as good as they were on St. Paddy's. Yep. They're that good. The staff hustle to make sure everything is good with their customers, the kitchen sends out great food (we both had the AYCE fish & chips -- their potato salad is awesome), and we had a great time dining... the only disappointment was the score of thre hockey game. Highly recommended again for a great meal in a fun environment.

Great local joint. Family friendly, good food, cold beer, prices are ok. Pleanty of tvs to watch whatever sporting event you would like. Highly recommended during football season.

I'm so torn with this place so I will start with the good: This is really a unique environment. A rounded room with lots of flags and TV's, large bar, high and low tables, nice ambiance. The staff was fairly attentive and quite nice. We went for Sunday breakfast buffet. For $12 they had fresh-made omelets, fresh-cooked French toast and pancakes, potatoes, fruit, mini muffins and sausage/bacon. A simple spread, but everything was quite good and I loved that everything was cooked right in front of you or for you. It made for a little bit of a wait sometimes, but worth it to have fresh cooked items instead of something mass produced and loaded into a warmer. The pancakes could even be customized for you with mini chocolate chips or blueberries. Overall I thought the food was above average, not fabulous, but quite good. Now for the not-so-good.... because of the rounded room the table set up in here is tight and awkward, especially when tables are full. They had even seated a table so you couldn't get to the sausage and bacon without having to interrupt the poor man's meal every time someone wanted meat. Don't try to come here with a walker or wheelchair. The coffee here tasted instant and was not very good. The absolute worst and most confusing was the women's room. The entire bathroom wall was lined with chairs stacked on top of one another... literally 15-20 feet of just stacked chairs. You could still walk to the sink and stalls, but it made things tight and odd. Worst of all was that they did have a changing table mounted to the wall, however it was virtually impossible to use it since the chairs were stacked down this wall including in front of the changing table. The chairs would have also made it almost impossible for a handicapped woman to use this bathroom at all. I'm not sure where the chairs were supposed to be since the dining area was already packed, but the fact that they do not have an appropriate storage area and feel that this is okay really makes me wonder where else they cut corners or choose to do what is "convenient" instead of what is right where the customer can't see. Complete turn off to the point that I would not return because of this. Sorry if that makes me picky or shallow, but it shows blatant laziness which is less than impressive.

This place was not at all what I expected! Pros: Good food, even better prices. $5 appetizers, $16 buckets. Lots of TVs, great atmosphere to watch a Hawks game. Beautiful view. Cons: Round house feel was a little manic and decorations were a little overwhelming. Staff seemed very shocked that they were busy on a Saturday night during playoff hockey. The seemed collectively a little nervous and a lot frazzled. All and all, pretty awesome. If you are nearby you should stop in. I will be back!

  • Ken B.

We stop here semi-regularly for daily food & drink specials and a good atmosphere with plenty of TVs to watch just about any sporting event you want. We recently hooked up again with Colene (that's how she spells it) and got to talking about the menu and mentioned to her that the nachos appetizer was lacking an all-important ingredient which was real melted cheese instead of the cheese sauce which you basically use to dip hot pretzels in at the Cubs game. She took it upon herself to ask the kitchen to use real cheese on the appetizer which may sound like a small thing but as far as we're concerned, it moves the nachos to the top of the appetizer list. Hope they decide to continue doing it that way.

Wow what a place that i never knew existed. If it wasn't for Yelp and Groupon this would have stayed hidden form me. Great little place (it's not the biggest) and Great tasting fresh food. Daily specials and the pizza on the table next to us looked tasty.

Not kid friendly AT ALL. Unfortunately I made the mistake of going with some friends and our kids to Howard Street Inn. The arrogant manager sent our waitress over to our table twice - correcting the kids on their behavior. The kids were not disruptive in any way, shape or form. Definitely felt like we were being a nuisance instead of patrons. The manager stared at our table the entire dinner. Terrible customer service on his part. Needless to say we will not be back - with or without kids!

I had no idea this place even existed. Not that I am especially familiar with Niles. But I have driven thru and never noticed it. There is a golf course next to it. Not that would have helped. My cousins' wife was throwing his surprise birthday party here. Great outdoor space. Fire pit outside for evenings. If you're into that. I have to say the highlight was the staff. They were attentive, checking on our party throughout the night for refills, etc.

All I have to say is "Thursdays $3 martini's"! They have 14 different flavors and so far I've covered 8 of them!! LOL So need I say, drinks are great. Thursdays, they also have 2 for 1 cheese pizza specials and .50 cent wings. I really didn't think the pizza was all that good but what do you want for 2 for 1's? The wings were pretty good especially the teriyaki ones. All in all, they have bar food with tons of tv's. It's a pretty fun atmosphere to burn off some steam. Oh and just fyi, March Madness is going on so if your looking for some place quiet...this month isn't the month!

Yum-tastic!!! Finally came in for their breakfast buffet and I'm glad I did! As soon as you walk in, it smells delicious! There is an omlette bar with TONS of choices like; mushrooms, onions, sausage, ham, jalapenos, peppers, and even spinach! They have pancakes, hashbrowns, BACON, sausage links, AND a french toast bar with fruit toppings like: blueberries, bananas, and chocolate chip bites. I'm a huge breakfast person and this breakfast buffet started my day with a smile!

Moved recently to Skokie & my husband & I have been looking for a go to place that you go to when you don't know what you want to eat. The Howard Street Inn is that kind of place. It's right off a golf course, high ceilings, lots of windows - bright & airy & it's a sports bar. Lots of TV's. We ordered a pizza & I tried the onion soup. They soup was very good, lots of cheese & very tasty. The pizza was on a nice thin crust, not too much sauce or cheese & not greasy. My husband liked the variety of beers on tap. Basic menu, salads, pizza, sandwiches, burgers, fish, etc. that's all we wanted. Will definitely be back

First visit was brunch yesterday. They don't have a lot of options but what they do have is excellent. Nothing is precooked. There are chefs that make fresh omelets to order, fried or scrambled eggs, French toast and pancakes with all kinds of toppings. There is also bacon, sausage, a couple of different potatoes and fresh fruit. The price is right too. There's a nice view of the golf course and there's out door seating. Every one was nice and we will certainly be back.

I bought a Groupon and wanted to return because last year I went on a Groupon and loved it but I don't know why I did not go back, other than it is a 40 minute round trip from my house. - and that is probably why. I went in and noticed an improved menu since last spring, so I ordered the brisket sandwich on Ciabatta and I was shocked that this was the best tasting sandwich I've ever eaten in my life! No lie! I love that there are many choices instead of the traditional fries as a side, so I chose a steamed veggie medley which were very good! I love the round room it is in which is surrounded by big windows overlooking the golf course. The waitress was friendly and attentive. When I was leaving the owner introduced himself as Ken and I told him how I loved my brisket sandwich and can't wait to return! He advised me to return after Thanksgiving for the holiday decorations, so I will do so then with a second Groupon I bought.

Seeing that they had a Groupon for here, I had to snatch it up. We came here on a Thursday night and what a deal! 2 for 1 pizzas (the pizzas clearly could have been enough to feed our whole table of 7), 50 cent wings, $3 martinis (yum!) and plenty to order from the small bites under $6 which included salad. Food was delicious, plentiful and we even brought a whole pizza home for dinner for the next night!

We call it "The Country Club" I just love this place. Found it after golf and continue to go back there; even for dinners with my gal. Their burgers and fries are great. They have really nice drink specials and even the pizza speaks to me from time to time. It is just what you want when you are looking for bar food, but the outside patio brings it up to country club class...well almost. Funny thing is that the in-laws were in for a weekend and when we took them to what we call "the country club", they had to laugh. Keep it up HSI!

Just had the HSI pulled pork and sweet onion pizza with tangy barbecue sauce. One of the best things I've tasted in a long time. Especially with a Black Seal and Coke.

4.5*s! What a wonderful place! A country clubby barroom atmosphere endowed with an incredible sound system and more televisions than Mission Control ("Come in Houston. This is Delicious.") Bears games come to vibrant life. Very high ceilings with huge windows allow for plenty of sun indoors with an expansive golf course view on the north side, suburban Howard Street on the south, and there is patio space galore for comfortable al fresco eating and drinking. For those of us who like to drink and eat on a stool at the bar, they have two, one in and one outdoors (An especially apt way to enjoy their delightful Dark and Stormy) Table service is quite adequate; the table servers and bartenders are youthful, friendly and efficient. Food is served in delicious, plentiful portions and there are daily food and drink specials, including an extremely fulfilling all-you-can-eat weekend brunch centering on omelettes fresh cooked in front of you with your choice of ingredients. Coffee is specially flavoured and absolutely yummy. Good, good pizza, barbecue, sandwiches and great, large burgers. There is no reason to leave this establishment hungry, thirsty, or unhappy, though you may end up sleepy and even a bit dopey. Best as always, Peter O. and S. P.S. The clear reason this place runs so well is their dedicated working owner/manager Ken. He's there cheerfully, determinedly expediting orders on the line, keeping things moving along, always doing what ever is necessary to keep this clock ticking. He has my sincere respect and thanks.

This was our first time at Howard Street Inn. We came for breakfast and were very happy with the food and service. They have a buffet on Sat and Sun until 12:00. They have a ton of TV's for those that want to catch up on football pre-game broadcasts.

I Have been to the Howard Street Inn a handful of times and really like the place. The service is good, food is good (great variety) and they always seem to have some good drink specials.. In the warm weather you can watch golfers out on the greens. Very relaxing. Neat round comfortable room! Give this place a try! You won't be dissappointed!!!

If you are on the northside this is a must stop for the atmosphere alone. Friendly staff and decent food make this a regular spot for me. They run drink and food specials all week long so it doesn't matter what day of the week you show up.

This place is in the most random location in Niles. It's almost hard to find. Parking is limited, but it's usually not too hard to find a spot. I usually come here in the evenings, so I'm not sure what it is like during the day when the golf course is open. I first tried Howard Street Inn sometime last Fall thanks to Groupon and I have come back several times since. I usually like going Thursdays for the $4.25 Martini specials. Martinis can be hit or miss though. I've had some that were really tasty and others that were waayy too strong. They also have a great deal on smaller appetizers-- my favorite being the pretzel bites with cheese. Not only is it a good place to grab a bite and get some drinks, but it is also a great place to watch sports games. I came here a couple times when the Bulls were playing and enjoyed it. Flat screen TVs surround the bar so you can watch the game from any seat in the house. They have free wi-fi here too, which is a plus. The bar is open late night until about 2am, which is great for the suburbs. The crowd is a bit older, but everyone is super nice. The staff is really friendly and attentive too! Last time I was here we sat out on the patio. So relaxing..loved it. Just my friends and some drinks, relaxing and talking. It was nice because it was a more intimate feel, almost like we were in someone's backyard. I definitely recommend HSI for a chill night out.

Mom took us out for lunch today. This has really become her new favorite spot. We had the skirt steak special which was both delicious and plentiful and Christopher had the steak medallions. His was tasty too. We had a coupon for free Cinnamon puffs and they were delivered piping hot and yummy. A really nice freebie. The food is solidly good, perhaps not great, but what we love most is the relaxed atmosphere and really accommodating service we get here. The views are wonderful and the restaurant itself is attractive and clean. What's not to love?

Nestled in between a forest preserve and houses lie Howard Street Inn. A cozy little bar with a wrap around outside seating area overlooking the golf course. The menu is extensive, and features an amazing bleu cheese burger. Don't care much for the fries though. The food items are a little pricey. I know they have a daily deal groupon going on during the week days. Ample televisions and seating. This is not the place to come to for a nice family dinner when there is a game on. You have been for warned.

Since moving to NIles, we have become regulars here. HSI has so many great elements to them such as their incredibly delicious burgers, spinach & artichoke dip, many flat screens, and EVERY DAY (of the week) drink specials. It's your typical sports bar minus crazy, bumpin', and drunkin' 21 year olds running around. Don't get me wrong, the crowd is young and mixed but my days of having drinks spilled on me are over and that will not happen here. Speaking of drinks, that is the ONLY category that HSI loses a star with me...they could be a tad stronger. More importantly, the very nice staff and bartenders always takes care of you and makes things right. Overall, HSI is a casual, comfortable, and cozy place to eat and/or drink at any time of the day or week.

I met the girls here on a warm summer evening. The outdoor patio area is really nice. It's covered, so you're not directly in the sun, but still can be outside with a view of some of the golf course. Our waiter was really nice too. He was very attentive and always asked if we needed anything without being intrusive. Even the bus boy was super nice, coming right over when he saw we were all done with our meal. The food is tasty. I had some of their chicken noodle soup, which was packed with flavor, and their shrimp tacos, which were out of this world. The shrimp were sauteed to perfection and cooked with a great combination of herbs and spices. The salsa and yogurt sauce they give you to put on the tacos complement them well. I was torn between ordering the shrimp tacos and the fish tacos, because this is one of the only places you can order fish tacos where the fish isn't battered and fried. The drink special was great too - any of their martinis for $3 (we went on a Thursday). The size was on the smaller end, but you can't complain for $3. Quick tip: Howard Street Inn offers gift certificates on restaurant.com . I picked up one worth $10 for only $1.50. The waiter gave us no problems with it either. The only reason I knocked a star off was that last time I went, I had the pizza, which was not very good - super thin, no spices, and bland. I'd skip the pizza if you go, but their other dishes have been very good. Overall, it was a really pleasant evening catching up with my friends. I'd go back.

The food is great the service is great. However, please be advised that you will be charged tax twice on any liquor sales. When we questioned it, we were told that is how their cash register is set up and can't be changed. Bit of a bummer to be charged twice, hope they are reporting the tax twice.

This was our second time being here since last summer. Was a very crowded night with the NCAA tournament going on. Service was excellent. Started off with the pulled pork nachos and they were yummy! The six of us barely were able to finish them. My sons loved their chicken tacos and quesadillas. My wife had a plain burger and fries that she really liked. I ate the beef brisket and pulled pork combo plate and it was excellent. They serve it was mixed vegetables and fresh mashed potatoes. They also give you 4 types of BBQ sauce, a sweet sauce, spicy, mustard and vinegar. All 4 were good, but I really liked mixing the spicy and vinegar together! Finally, we had the cinnamon/sugar dough balls for dessert (sorry, can't remember what they were called) and they were amazing! Drove over a 1/2 hour from Buffalo Grove to eat here and was definitely worth the trip! Will definitely be going back and bringing more friends! PS, good beer selection too! Nothing better than Lagunitas IPA on tap!

Used a coupon which I showed to my server. Ordered applewood smoked chicken choice of sides, cole slaw and a martini. Very small $6.50 drink, two sips done. Weak People next to me came in 10 minutes after me, they get their food first. The place is 20% full. I asked where is mine? Waitress comes back ten minutes later and actually mumbles some lame excuse, "another server took it." She is lying. Ten minutes later she says I can not have the cole slaw but have to have the mashed potatoes, cauliflower and broccoli . She gives me no option or reasons. People near me get cole slaw! It takes over ONE HOUR for my food to arrive, she admits when requestioned she did not put in the order correctly the first time. Never once says she is sorry, or can I get you a drink? Chicken had good, flavor but was very DRY. Vegetables were simply steamed, no seasoning, no nothing. I cook at home and would never serve such bad plain boring sides. The veggies taste like they were frozen and microwaved. Friday Saturday and Sunday are BBQ specials, they should have some better sides that pair up. Time to pay she forgets the coupon which I showed her when I sat down and had under the bill. She comes back ten long minutes later asking me where the rest of my payment is. She is just dumb. Has problems with the bill on the table next to me too. I flag down a " manager" (?) and tell him,( he does not come around on his own) he thanks me but he really does not care much. He offers me nothing for the problems and long wait. Poor skills all around.

My girls and I have gone to this spot several times and everytime we are pleased (and a little buzzzed) from our drinks. the food is not that great but that's not what we go there for. Usual crowd is: male, sports fans, golfers. The beer selection is good and the mixed drinks are worth the price. Nose level is pretty loud. Go and try it.

This is a wonderful building and space that appears, from the outside, to be an overachieving clubhouse to the TAM 9-hole postage stamp of a course in Niles. But it's really the Howard Street Inn with a little bit of clubhouse on the side. Massive amount of natural light streaming through circumferential windows. High ceiling. Many, many tv screens showing sports fare. A good bar that has a nice selection of beers - mainstream and craft. On their own, these attributes merit a short vacation in my day. But where HSI hits it out of the park is its food. It is so far beyond expectations that it's a little shocking. Somewhat typical menu descriptions are anything but. I give a toothsome nod to the new pulled pork and beef brisket sandwich offerings, but the star turn is provided by the turkey burger. This thing is the most delicious mess of a meal I know. The burger is wonderfully moist and topped with an Italian red pepper half, beautifully fresh half avocado, and a cheese slice. There's some kind of slathered white sauce on the ciabbata bread. The side red potato salad, skin on, is the crack of potato salad. Now, for those of you who insist on rising to a challenge, this burger is IMPOSSIBLE to eat without being reduced to a deconstructed mess in your hands and on your plate. Strangely, this is a good thing. The combination of layered slippery ingredients - the red pepper and avocado are the chief culprits - render the beautifully structured presentation moot during the plate-to-mouth engagement. But I find this to be its not-so-subtle charm. Love this great 9-hole-in-the-wall restaurant. I hate golf, but that's another thing altogether.

Hidden gem of the North! Great beer specials (can't beat the bucket deals or the frozen Piña Colada)! Our family frequently takes the Charles Street bike path to the restaurant on the weekends so we can sit on the patio. Check out the weekend BBQ lineup, great stuff. Owner roams the restaurant and greets all, so rare to see that anymore.

Food was good, prices were fair and atmosphere was fun for an old person eatery off a golf course type place. Aside from the employees I was the youngest by at least 3-4 decades. All I would say is beware of using a Groupon or discount. In my case I told the waitress before hand I had a Groupon. When I got a beer which tasted horrible I asked for a different beer. Her reply was "Sorry, no we can't do that." Everything had to be verified with a manager. When my phone was about to die they refused to use the Groupon unless they could physically press the button "mark as used" so I had to turn on WiFi to connect to the internet with my battery seconds from death they finally marked as used. What if I printed it out? It would show the same thing. Per Groupon and other companies I've used, it is not mandatory to mark as used, that is for the consumers reference only. Other than that the server was great and checked on me several times (probably happy to see someone near her age). Overall; decent food, decent prices, decent atmosphere. I might return for the "dress in Chicago Blackhawks gear and get a free domestic draft" promotion.

You go to Howard Street Inn to grab a seat at their outdoor area. The view is great, overlooking a lush scenic golf course. This golf/sports bar enables you to get some sunshine, a little bit of nature and a drink while catching a game. The food is good although they have changed the menu. The kitchen offers typical bar food: grilled cheese, quesadillas, burgers (including veggie burgers), salads, pizza, steak and even pork chops. Personally, I like the fish tacos. Service is attentive and the crowd is mostly golfers - which can be good or bad. I love that restaurant.com offers some great gift card deals from this place. I just spent a few bucks for a $25 gift card here! You can't beat that!

Went out for drinks with some co-workers after a particularly long day of work. We ended up here because it was close, and didn't regret it. It is kind of middle of nowhere (at least for my city boy perspective). Even with a pretty full bar, parking was a dream. When I got in, I learned that it was 3 dollar martini night. Granted, the martini list wasn't everything (Mostly super girly ones) but for 3 bucks? Yeah, I'll take an appletini, you wanna fight about it? The food was decent bar food, nice selection of appetizers for not too high of a price. However, the bar itself was great. TV lines the perimeter of the bar, which leads to just about everyone cheering on The Greatest Athlete In The History Of The World® Michael Phelps. Also, the jukebox is about as good as it can get. Within about an hour, I heard Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, and Def Leppard. These are bands that should be played at every bar, at all times. If I lived closer, I would probably make the Inn a drinking staple, but as it is, it'll probably just be the occasional after work beer bar.

The Howard Street Inn sits beside the Tam O Shanter Golf Course right off Howard Street in Niles. They have their own lot, so parking is not a factor. The inside looks like a semi-circle and the building has a high ceiling with a cupola at the top. There are 12 large flatscreens inside, 7 lined up behind the bar, so you can follow multiple games at once. The Inn would be a great place to stop by during March Madness or College Gameday with this amenity at your disposal. There is a computerized jukebox inside as well. The menu ranges approximately $5-$20 and has a little bit of everything. On the high side, some of the highlights are linguini, skirt steak, strip steak, lobster tail, salmon, perch, shrimp, and ribs. If you're looking to spend a little less go for a burger, bratwurst, deli sandwich, sub, wrap, soup, salad, or pizza. The service was really good; no complaints. The Howard Street Inn has been added to the "must return to" list.

I didn't know this place existed until I played golf at the Tam, and now, it's like my own little country club on Howard Street (at least in the summertime it is). It offers your typical standard bar-type fare for lunch and dinner, and the prices are very good. I have tasted a broad array of their high-fat appetizers, and was not particularly impressed. Had a few sandwedges also, and those are better -- burger, chicken. Nothing is inedible. Personally I think the best thing on the menu is the HSI cobb salad. It's got mixed lettuce, corn, bacon, hard-boiled egg, tomatoes, cucumbers, bleu cheese and a grilled chicken breast. If is sounds huge, that's because it is, my little friend. It comes with honey mustard dressing on the side. I heart protein so this salad is a fantasy world for me. They offer lots of drink specials too. I highly recommend going on Thursday -- it's $3 "martini" night! Where the hell can you go booze in the city for $3 a pop? The Cherry Cheesecake martini is made with vanilla vodka and cranberry. Not really cherry, but it's very strong, so does it really matter? The Northsider and the Sunburst martinis taste like kool-aid. Right up my alley. Is there any alcohol in there? After I knock back a few of those, I always catch a glimpse of flashing lights and a mug shot in my mind. Oh my goodness! The inside of the restaurant is filled with big screen tvs and after work groups that are going for the cheap beer. There are kids and older people as well. It's a little smokey in there, so I prefer to sit outside on their patio and watch the golfers duff hole no. 9. They have put tv's outside as well now so you can view a variety of professional sporting events, or the Cubs. All the waitresses are young, nice and supercute, and they don't have any body fat. It's fun!

The Howard Inn holds the title for the best deal around this part of town. While options are limited nearby, their menu has something for just about everyone. Here's what I found: Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. An energetic crew of servers and staff on a very busy Thursday night. Many loyal patrons who seem to frequent the place. A large indoor and outdoor bar, with many games on. If "Thirsty Thursdays" are your thing, you'll find excellent deals on Martinis here, as I did. Also, I couldn't pass up the chicken wings deal, and had some very large wings, quite tasty. The fish tacos arrived with tater tots, and though I was hoping for chips and guac, they were also good. However, the reason I'd come back: The brisket tacos. Yep, they're worth the trip. You won't find these anywhere else. Stay thirsty, maybe I'll see you on Thursday!

The first word that comes to mind is mediocre. Mediocre food and mediocre service. My rating reflects my appreciation for mediocrity. Great atmosphere, though. If overall service improved, this could be a gem.

Terrible service and the drinks sucked. They need to update their menu!! The website shows pina coladas but none were available during my visit. I ended up going to buffalo wild wings and had a blast.

This was our first time at Howard Street Inn. We came for breakfast and were very happy with the food and service. They have a buffet on Sat and Sun until 12:00. They have a ton of TV's for those that want to catch up on football pre-game broadcasts.

We went there today for lunch and its very good. I had the pork chops with mashed and veggies. They were delicious. Hubby got soup and a sandwich and he loved it. It was 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday, so the place was kinda empty. The waitress was very nice. Prices are very reasonable! We will definitely be back.

I Have been to the Howard Street Inn a handful of times and really like the place. The service is good, food is good (great variety) and they always seem to have some good drink specials..

Great view - golfcourse, nice waitstaff, good service, decent bar food, many TV's, and best of all terrific patio and outdoor bar in summer, reasonable drink specials every day of the week. Even if we are not golfing my husband and I go for dinner just to sit out on the patio overlooking the golf course. Thumbs way up!!

If you are on the northside this is a must stop for the atmosphere alone. Friendly staff and decent food make this a regular spot for me. They run drink and food specials all week long so it doesn't matter what day of the week you show up.

It's fun!
