Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Beef is good, sausage is good. Nice people. Sort of pricy, $5.50 for just a beef combo and another couple bucks for fries. With a drink you're into the $10 range for lunch. Guess I'm still old school about what lunch shuold cost. Never had anything but the beef/sausage.

Well it's a SAVOR-EXPO to be concise. I love chicken and will judge any eatery by its salads. Cellis is not shy on defining a true salad. It's not a crappy ball of iceberg with a cherry tomato, in fact, it's multi-veggie bonanza. I ordered it with chicken, which was money well spent. There is an interesting seasoning on the meat that has left me craving another Greek (with chicken) salad. Some places over-do the onions or feta, which will kill it. Cellis however has managed to balance the cheese-to-olive-to-onion ratio perfectly. By my second visit, I had to try the fries. Fresh cut REAL fries are hard to find anywhere these days. In the interest of full disclosure, I do not eat beef. Having said that, my friend remarked that her bacon burger was one of the best she's ever had. She eyeballed the menu while we ate and gave me the oral report of what she wants to try next time she visits. Oh yes, there WILL be a next time. The portions are generous, it's impossible to leave hungry, and the place is squeaky clean. I do not want to forget to mention how happy the owner seems to be. He smiled as we entered and as he greeted each customer behind us. His great nature is truly served up in his great food.

If you're going to be this close to Boobys, you've got to know your stuff. This is a fun place where the food is fresh and the price is right, but the italian beef is a little better than Booby's and you won't have to stand in line as long... of course, as more people try Cellis, this might switch, so, no promises.

My wife and I had Celli's Pizza Burgers for lunch the other day and they were fabulous. It was just our second visit but we will be going back again soon. I'm not usually one who enjoys natural cut french fries because they're either really greasy or over done and dried out, but the fries at Celli's were very good. They were crispy, perfectly cooked and lightly salted for taste without there being too much. The burger was large, it was tender and flavorful, and had generous amounts of delicious cheese with a nice pizza sauce. I'm really looking forward to trying the gyros and the chicken fingers soon, and a cheesy beef with tomatoes always hits the spot. This restaurant might serve many of the typical foods one might find at a number of other establishments but the prices are very decent, the menu is expansive and the service is friendly and excellent. It doesn't hurt that they are located across the street, either.

While we were on our way to Jerry's Fruit, Garden, and Immigrant store, we decided to stop at Celli's because we had a discount coupon and we were hungry for lunch. Celli's is a good example of that a 1950's hot dog snack shop would look like. Its décor used chrome/Formica tables and the types of padded chairs that were de rigueur during that era. Some of the larger tables use a slatted bench for seating. The floor has a ubiquitous red 6" brick tile that many drive-ins would use. It was a little tricky to get in because Milwaukee Avenue is being repaved, and temporary entrances are used to bridge the gap between the pavement and the parking areas - sort of like a moat. When we got in, it took the counter man a couple of minutes to recognize we had arrived. Apparently he did not hear the horn fanfare and red carpet unfurling as we left Mrs B's limo (a Chevy HHR!). We both ordered grilled chicken sandwiches and one order of fries as well as soft drinks. Service was friendly and efficient; and our meals were brought out promptly. The fries we got were served unsalted, which does not bother me, but the fries were rather greasy, which does bug me b/c I get nasty side effects when I eat too much fatty food. The sandwiches were served on sesame buns with your choice of lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I asked the counter guy if pickles were available, and he promised to provide me a few - unfortunately he forgot to do that. The chicken was properly cooked, and tasted fine to me. Celli's is a nice place, and I would not mind visiting again - but I have to mark down my rating for the three issues I discussed above. If you come here during the next few weeks, you may be inconvenienced by the roadwork going on. Just be careful to stay out of the moat: I understand that it has been stocked with piranhas.

In short, 3 star food with 5 star service. I came here yesterday at around 6pm and it was rather empty. Most people seem to order their food to go, but I dined it. I went ahead and ordered the Italian beef and a medium drink. The total came to around $9. It's a little high, but there are free refills and there's a ton of meat in the bun. I also ordered it with hot peppers which increased the price by 50 cents. The meat itself was nice. It wasn't rubbery and wasn't too salty. There was a lot of meat on it and I could have stopped eating there, but I didn't want to review the joint by only trying one thing so I ordered a chili cheese dog and it came with fries. That was about $4.50. The hot dog was nothing special. Seems like just a regular one you can buy from any grocery store. I wish they would make something more their own. The chili and cheese were pretty standard too. The fries were cooked nicely with a bit of crunch, but they too weren't anything special. What IS special is the service. The guys working there seem to really like what they're doing. They know a lot of the customers there by name and are super friendly. Plus, the food came out in a matter of minutes. This place is good for kids or for anyone that likes sports especially (they have TVs showing ESPN all the time). I suggest kids because kids love this style of foods - burgers, hot dogs, and fries. Plus, their straws are bendy! First time I've seen a bendy straw in years. :)

I've eaten at Cellies a couple 2-3 times before and really enjoy there food, so when it came time to cater my little burrito baby's birthday party we looked around at catering companies and restaurants looking for a decent price with decent food. As you could imagine when you mention a party of 175 people dollar signs glow in people's eyeballs! While having dinner one evening with my beautiful bride I mentioned cellies beef to her and said I think they do catering?? She said give them a call, the next day I popped in there, met with the owner Dominick which btw could not be a nicer guy! This guy cares about the quality of his business he runs and is a real stand up guy. That alone would have sold me until he told me his prices. I thought it was a down payment for the catering job not the full price!!! INSANE DEAL FOR FOOD. Not only was the food incredible, hot and fresh along with the amazing deal he gave me at the last second I asked him to deliver it for me he said absolutely and had it at our location right on time! In conclusion use cellies for your catering needs! You WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED

Me and my family eat here twice a month. The best FOOD around! I really enjoy the friendly staff and superb tasting beef. I am anxiously waiting for them to reopen. This is the best place to get a foot long juicy Italian beef with mozzarella cheese.
(5)N C.
Not very good. My burger was so well done it was dry. Staff also could use some people skills. Witnessed a family of four arrive 15 minutes before closing and was told dining in wasn't option, since we close in 15 minutes. So guess what the family did? They left and spent their money elsewhere.

Today was the first time I've been to Celli's. From outside to in it looks just like a simple family owned fast food joint. It appeared a bit rundown so I never really considered stopping. Their menu consists of burgers, hotdogs, italian beef, etc (typical fast food). I ordered a meatball sandwich with mozzarella and sweet peppers, a cheez fry and a large vanilla shake. All together I was actually really happy with my meal. Everything though simplistic were seasoned properly and well prepared. The meatballs are homemade (and seasoned), the sweet peppers had the little char marks from being grilled, the red sauce was decent (and seasoned), the bread was toasted and the cheese melted. The fries are hand cut with skins still on. They were fried crunchy on the outside soft on the inside (and perfectly salted) and the cheese sauce was simple (most likely store bought but still good). Now I can't say the shake was any different than any place I've been to before. But, they did do one thing right. They filled my cup to the top (two thumbs up). I'd say today was a good experience.I'm glad I gave them a try. I'd be more than happy give them another go. I give them 3.5 stars

I thought this place was fine. It was a lot like many of the other privately owned fast food places in the area. I would say the food was average. The portions were big, though. I had a burger. The bun was a regular fast food bun. The burger was a little dry. It had a lot of toppings, though. Maybe next time I will try the Italian Beef. I will update if I do. A couple of the tables were dirty even though we were the only ones in there eating besides a guy who thanked us for coming (the owner?) and his family.

Stopped by here after driving by it a bunch of times. I know this space has changed names and restaurants over the years but I thought I'd give this one a try. Food was pretty good. Burger was good and so were the fries. The guy behind the counter said there was a problem with the drink machine, but they brought the pop to my table from somewhere else and it was just fine. Only weird, awkward thing was around noon, I think it was the owner who I heard say something in the back to the effect of, "It's noon. There's never this many fu**ing people here then." Not sure if I misunderstood what he said or how serious he was, but if he was really upset about having a lot of customers in his place at once, maybe he's in the wrong business. The food was very good and I do want to go back, but not if it's an inconvenience.
(4)Kim C.
Had the pepper and egg sandwich with fries and it was awesome! Great taste, texture and it was served on a piece of fresh Italian bread. The food around me looked awesome too. The place was fairly busy and it was evident they had all been there before!
(5)Mike P.
I have given this place a chance multiple times. Nothing impressive or even remotely delicious. The food tastes exactly like every other grill that has failed in this spot since Big Daddy's went out of business. Only a matter of time before this one goes under too.

I dragged my parents here on a trip home (I shouldn't call it home, I moved away 7 years ago... but Chicago is always going to be home for me.) after running a half marathon. And I WOOFED that sandwich down. :-) I had an Italian Beef dipped with hot - and it was good. I don't know if it was my favorite, but definitely good. They did mess up our order a little bit, but we were in a hurry and just ate it as was. The fresh cut fries, on the other hand, are probably the best fresh cut fries I've ever had. I usually don't order fresh cut because they're usually nasty and soggy - these were crispy, just the right size, and YUMMY.

Celli's is a fast food eatery located off of Milwaukee Avenue in Niles. Serving fairly standard Chicago style fast food such as burgers, hot dogs, Italian beef, gyros and burgers. When walking into Celli's you'll notice several coin-operated machines right past the main door. These include a palm reading machine, a grip tester and a love tester, you don't often see these novelty machines in operation and it provides a nice bit of charm to add to your experience the moment you walk in the door. In visiting Celli's I decided to try the hot dog which came with fries. The hot dog I received was a natural casing skinned hot dog. It came on a soft regular non-poppy seed bun. The pickle wasn't too thick and wasn't too sour. The tomato slices weren't too wet or too sloppy and nicely covered the entire dog so tomato could be tasted in every bite. The application of mustard, relish and tomato was perfect with not too much of any one ingredient to overpower the others. I didn't detect any celery salt on the hot dog and the sport peppers used weren't too hot and added just the right amount of flavor. The fries included were fresh cut style fries. These are not my favorite kind of french fry by any stretch of the imagination. I sampled a few and felt they tasted a bit too salty for my taste. I had a friend of mine with me who's opinions differ from mine on fries and he was happy to finish off my fries so if you like fresh cut fries you might like these. Overall this was an excellent hot dog. Besides the lack of a poppy seed bun this was very well made, while not the perfect mix of flavors this was a very very good hot dog, and I'll say it's five star level hot dog. I recommend Celli's if you're in the area.

I live near Celli's and have always drove past it for years, but never really paid attention to it. I was looking for a place to eat in my area on here and read good reviews about this place. So I finally went in and ordered an Italian beef and fries. They were really good. I've had Italian beef at portillos a few times, but this one was so much better. I want to try a burger next time. The service was good and it looked clean inside. I'm glad I found a new place to eat in my town.
(5)Maritza S.
Good quality food. friendly service. Great prices and portions are huge. Can't go wrong with a beef or gyro
(5)Bart C.
I have been coming here since it opened. One thing about a great restaurant is consistency and they have always had that. I have to say that this place and Johnnie's Beef have the best beef in Chicago. Dominic Celli is a great guy and a cool dude and we always talk about the Blackhawks and Bears. Both of the chefs Roberto and Roberto are awesome!!
(5)Sylvia F.
I really liked the Greek salad I ordered with chicken. The hot dogs came with tons of fries. Portions were big and it was very inexpensive. The same meal would have cost at least 5 dollars more at Portillos. I definitely recommend trying this spot if you're in the area. It is also a great place to bring kids.
(4)Pam D.
We stopped at Celli's last month while out for a drive. Christopher had the bacon cheeseburger and I had the Italian beef. Both were excellent. They have fresh cut fries and they really prepare them well. All in all, our experience was great and we will most certainly be back to try more options and probably kick this review up to 5 stars. The service was friendly and the place was clean. Yup, this joint is a winner!

Celli's - Cheesy Beef Sandwich w/ Sweet AND Hot peppers *There was NO actual way of this picking this beast up by hand! All the juice that was used to dip this samich in, damn near flooded the restaurant itself. The taste was good. I'm not gonna compare it to ANY other rivalz, as it kinda standz alone on it'z own. I also think it'z gonna take another year before I can muster up the courage to even attempt this again. (Yeah, I'm being a wuss) However, I will be back. Lookz like they've got lot'z to explore. Guess I dont need to ask where to "Start digging." lol

Celli's is located on the southwest corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Oriole in Niles, Illinois. The building formerly housed Mitchell's Express. The property enjoys good exposure, substantial traffic count and adequate off-street parking. Celli's is clean and bright. The walls have a white ceramic tile wainscoting with a red horizontal stripe. There's a decent size dining area with tables and booths. We were greeted by Dominic, the proprietor, with a big smile and friendly fast food banter. You immediately get good vibes. Their menu is extensive, but their specialty is Italian beef and sausage. I opted for the homemade meatball sandwich in red sauce. There's self-serve Pepsi soft drinks and someone brings your order to your table. Celli's makes fresh cut fries and they know how to cook them. Their hot dogs are Vienna Beef. The only miss was a hot dog bun without poppy seeds. I hope this gets fixed, but not a deal breaker. One more thing... Dominic's dad had a hot dog stand on Lawrence Avenue for 40-years. Fast food is in the Celli blood. I look forward to trying other menu items. I'll be back!
(5)Mo M.
Great food for awesome prices. If you order any of the combo meals, not only do you get drink and fries but you also get 2 chicken strips. Not only that but the service is great too. This location seems to have changed owners a few times over the past recent years but hopefully Celli's is here to stay!
(5)Terry B.
Wow, like others here have said, Celli's is, well, wonderful! At least for my favorite treat , an Italian Beef and fries. I can NOT say enough good stuff about their beef sandwich. OK, they're clean, have TV, a parking lot (that's more important in Chitown, btw).. it's the BEEF that's mas importante. Let's put it this way: there's very few places I trust to make a decent Italian Beef. Don't think I can post a list here... can I??? . ***** (FIVE STARS) I'd give 'em six if they had six.... Ab-so-lutely superlative. Must be the juice, I scarf these down so fast I don't remember what the conversation was about, if any. So, GO! Eat! I don't know what the deal is with 'Jesse', maybe someone should buy him another beef sandwich... Naaahhhh.
(5)Jackie O.
Outside, the grill sign still says "Mitchell's" - and on the inside, the dirty-diner decor hasn't changed much either. What I will say is that I had the best damn Italian beef sandwich I've had for as long as my short-term memory serves me. The fries in the diner were a little undercooked, but the place seems to have all the important stuff down to a science: Maxwell St. Sausage, a good Polish, Cajun chicken, classic Chicago dogs, and Italian Sausage or Beef with peppers and cheese. My cheesy beef was still soaked in marinade, on quality bread, and had more than enough cheese. There's a couple picnic tables outside on the other side of the parking lot that are surrounded by a grass yard. It seems like a great place to take little kids and let them run around. Also, most of the sandwiches are around $5, so this place is easy on the wallet for a big clan.
(4)Brigitte M.
Celli's has the best fries! Also great hot dogs and hamburgers. Today my coworker had the gyros sandwich and said it was delicious, especially the meat and the sauce. I've eaten here many times and had take-out many times and have never had a bad meal. I've recommended Celli's to my coworkers and all have had nothing but compliments about the food. Besides, the staff is very friendly.
(5)Andrew M.
Good place. Hot dogs are perfect and come with a huge portion of fresh cut fries. Will definitely return and try other items. I like this place better than others in the immediate area.
(5)Diablo L.
Stopped in to place a carry out order and will definitely be back, tried the maxwell st. polish that came wrapped surrounded by fresh cut fries, very good , also had the italian sausage which came in a crispy french roll , very good as well, next time I need to try the pizza sausage sandwich.......
(4)lou L.
Excellent!!!--so much better than Mitchell's that used to be there(I do miss breakfast though) Loved everything that I have tried-beef, gyros, and the AMAZING pizza sausage sandwich!!! Go there and you will love it!!
(5)Vera Lynn W.
My never ending quest for an amazing Italian beef sandwich has ended. I came here based on other Yelp reviews and I will return again and again although it is kinda far from my house. Their Italian beef is amazing! Beef cut soo thin its like it was shaved off. Very juicy. Very oh so very delicious. Every year, Mother's Day is at my house. I want them to cater my party. I just hope I don't live too far. Its better than Portillos, also much quieter. When I went, we were the only ones there, and it was around 5:30. But a few more people came in as we were eating. The fries were also very good, but all I wanted was the Italian beef. I got it with cheese. Did I mention it was delicious? They also have free refills, which is always a plus. When you come here (you know you want to) try the Italian beef. You won't be disappointed. It is amazingly delicious! The people behind the counter are very friendly. Polite and accomodating. I was very pleased with my experience here today. Or couldn't you tell? :-)
(5)Doug S.
Understand this is a standard of proper Chicago Italian beef sandwiches..Maybe I should have grown up on them to appreciate it more but it is what it is..Perfect atmosphere for what it is.,classic Chicago style
(4)Yav A.
For all you Italian beef fans out there. It doesn't get any better than Celli's cheesy beef with hot and sweet peppers dipped with cheese fries was simply the best!!!
(5)Andrew H.
Been here twice now. It's ok-the italian beef sandwich was good, but the pizza sandwich that they advertise about all over the place was pretty gross. The owner does seem to always be there, and he is very friendly. I'm sure I'll be around, but it's not like I'll ever crave anything from this place or recommend traveling to it. Hey, it still beats McD's.

Finally, a new small, fast food restaurant opens in the North Suburbs of Chicago that deserves LARGE praise !! It's been quite awhile since I reviewed anything, but this restaurant is a five star SPECIAL! Celli's Italian Beef and Sausage, at 8080 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Niles, just opened the last week of April, 2010. And what a gem it is! It's not a big fast food place, but it is one that will have you coming back for good, solid food, nice pleasant atmosphere, and a personal touch. Dominic Celli, owner, has the biggest smile of any guy I have met. He's a bear of a man who takes interest in his customers, greets them with that big smile, and makes you feel like you stepped into a buddy's home. He's always very happy to suggest some things you might want to try on his fairly generous menu, and it's prices that you can afford. My friend and I went in several times now and we were not disappointed at any time. His Italian Beef even beats my Dad's own recipe: it rocks! The sweet peppers are lightly roasted, still crunchy, and has a full-bodied flavor to them. I also tried his Gyros and they were large and stuffed full of that good stuff: meat! I had a Polish dog so juicy and bite-down crunchy that it disappeared fast. And guess what? ALL his dogs come with fresh-cut fries. A generous portion, too. My buddy had a bacon hamburger that had a load of bacon and the burger was very thick, a THIRD of a pound! Nice, soft bun, too. Next time I need to try his Italian Sausage sandwich, or "sangwich," as my Dad used to say. You won't be disappointed if you go in. The food runs between 3 and 5 dollars per, very easy on the budget if you have a carload to feed. Open from 10:30 am to 9:00 p.m.. Free WiFi coming soon. Mangia Bené!
(5)Jeff P.
Best Italian beef in the world!! I was a devout portillo's fan... Until I had a celli's beef. Best beef, best juices (make sure you get it dipped! There is no other way to have it!) great service, great prices. Eat Celli's!
(5)Mike S.
I've had the Italian beef, gyro, chili dog, and chicken tenders. All were very good, you must try them!
(5)J B.
I ordered some sandwiches the other day, I haven't been here in awhile and they have had several owners over the yrs. I had their It. beef, gyros and grecian chick. wrap and all were good. I've already been back for more.
(3)Rob P.
First time dining at Celli's. Sampled some food. The Italian beef sandwich is the best. Meatball sandwich was very tasty and hearty as well. Gyros plate was also excellent, the meat had good seasoning and wasn't dry. My daughter loved the chicken fingers and the fresh cut fries reminded me of Gene and Judes without as much grease. Excellent spot to dine in while in Niles. Great addition to the Niles neighborhood.
(5)Brad C.
Just had an awesome Gyro at this place today! Loved it and although it's all I had, I have no doubt the Italian beef and everything else is great! Good prices and the daily specials seem very good! You won't go wrong at this place.
(5)Yasoob A.
This place was a reco from my brother because he knows I am a Italian beef guy. I am usually a fan of AL's on Taylor or Portillos if I am in a rush. But the cheesy beef with both peppers and dipped was one of the best I have had in a long time with a side of fries with cheese. Well worth the drive.
(4)Ren S.
I'm not sure who most of these reviewers are. It probably the owner. First off before this restraint it was a different restaurant that failed. The only difference is that they change the name and made it look retro. 2nd off their food is terrible. I at their Italian beef and i vomited when i got back home. It was greasy and i threw away half of it. The sandwich was not big. it was the bread that was big. So people who say it was big are probably dolts. this general area has alot of homeless people. On my way to here I saw at least 13 homeless people. not trying to be a jerk but there was a homeless guy staring at me while eating. Anyways there is a reason why the original failed. I;m not sure if changing the the theme and name worked..
