A nice cafe, situated just a few feet from the Nauvoo Temple. Plenty of seating, with large tables for larger groups/families. Good food served with care, in a nice, relaxed environment. They offer both cook-to-order as well as a buffet, and great sodas and ice cream. Worth a visit or two while in Nauvoo.

This is WAY overpriced for what you get. There is no way a breakfast buffet should cost so much for powdered eggs and gravy from a packet. Sorry, but they get away with this because there isn't much around and the town is busy with tourists during the warmer months.

Ok for what it is. A little over priced. Beware that there seems to be little organization apparent to a newcomer to the restaurant. Had two large groups that showed up after we got our food...and things moved along fairly quickly.

I believe this is the place where all of the Mormons go after the temple. At least, that's what it seemed like when we went. It was moderately busy even though it was not the usual tourist season. This is probably because it's almost the only place to get something to eat in Nauvoo. After ordering we waited quite a while. And by a while I mean well over 40 mins. We almost walked out, but then the food came just in time. Whew. Now, the food: not worth the wait. It wasn't anything special. The buns were ice cold, the sandwiches were plain. Basically, the only redeeming quality was the French fries! Those were so crispy and flavorful! YUM!! In sum, good luck with this one. If you have a better alternative, TAKE IT!

The breakfast is served as a buffet, plus the staff will do any additional items you need. All staff was very attentive and friendly. Food items were fresh and well-prepared but not spectacular. Coffee was american-style weak ...

Ate there for breakfast. Not bad just not tasty. Clean, kind, and orderly but nothing is made to order but rather gathered from a buffet. Just not impressed.

My mom and I had a great lunch at Grandpa John's after we saw the expensive and unappetizing spread at the Hotel Nauvoo. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, friendly, staff, and very reasonable prices at Grandpa John's. We both had BLTs on homemade bread--both delicious! We also got the homemade rhubarb pie: it was to die for!!! I also bought a jar of apple butter. And our bill? Under $20 for everything! We will be back again for sure on our next visit to Nauvoo and highly recommend you check it out.

The buffet is prominent. I was surprised by the amount of rules surrounding it, and frankly not in the mood to think that hard (and conversely, not just wanting to shell out the all you can eat rate). That was the downside. On the plus side, that was some gooood fried chicken!!

Our 10-year-old woke up at 5:30am, looked out the hotel window, saw the Grandpa John's sign that said, "Breakfast Ice Cream Sandwiches" and about peed his pants anticipating ice cream sandwiches for breakfast. So whether the joke is intentional or not, the sign works. We ate the breakfast buffet which was more like an all-you-can-eat cooked-to-order meal, as the buffet just sort of filled in gaps around all the delicious food they made fresh for us. Halfway through us eating the last item they'd be back at our table asking what we wanted next. We had french toast, pancakes, eggs cooked to order, and I can't remember all the rest--plus the buffet. (Oh, but no breakfast ice cream sandwiches. Sorry!) Our 8-year-old usually eats nothing, so I mentioned to my wife that I hated to pay for a buffet for him. Overhearing that, the server said, "Let's see what he eats. If he doesn't eat much, we can just charge him a la carte to save you money." Can you believe that? In the end, encouraged by their regular tableside visits, he ate like a horse, so honestly they should have charged us the adult price for him, not the kid price. Frankly, I didn't even double-check the price because we all ate multiple meals' worth, making it the best deal of our road trip. The locals eating there were super friendly, too. That breakfast experience was truly a highlight of our week. Thanks, folks!

I asked the waitress what was good and she said their fries- the locals won't eat the fries if they are out of their regular fries. Their fries were indeed yummy! We had a 3 year old with us, and he ate most of his food and wanted ice cream after- which he really didn't have room for! We love a place where we can mix our own drinks- and this place let you do that and also felt like a old fashioned ice cream soda joint. If I'm ever in Nauvoo again- this is the place I'm going to eat!

Grandpa John's Cafe has a great breakfast buffet. The food is top notch and the service is great. As a part of the buffet fee, they will also cook other items of your choice such as french toast, pancakes and eggs, cooked as you like them. If you also stay at the Hotel Nauvoo accross the street you get a discount on the buffet.
