I have been to several local sushi joints including Kikus and Ra Sushi and this restaurant is of the same quality but much cheaper. The staff is amazingly friendly and also provide very prompt service. They have lunch specials including benton boxes and sushi and sahimi. I was turned onto this place by a friend about a few years ago and have already been there 30+ times! With one of the sushi lunches which includes up to 16 piece of sushi, salad and misu soup, yet with tax tip and a soda only comes to about 12 dollars! Amazing value and conveniently located off of Rte 34. For those of you familar with the area, it is in the old baker's square.

I was fairly impressed with Raku Sushi, considering they are right across the street from Yamado, which is a fairly well-established sushi place. Although this restaurant is Chinese-owned, their menu is firmly Japanese with a wide variety. They don't just have sushi, but also ramen, Japanese-style curry (milder than Indian and served with rice), and other Japanese dishes. I was most surprised to see curry listed; not a lot of Japanese restaurants include it, so that's cool. If you remember the location as Bakers Square, you will be amazed at the interior transformation. It's now a very spacious, clean layout with modern decor. The service was very good; staff was attentive and friendly. I had a thai iced tea which was good, but missing milk? My boyfriend and I had a Love Boat for 2 (which was the perfect amount for two people!) which consisted of a selection of nigirizushi, sashimi, and 3 maki (I believe they were crunchy shrimp, spicy tuna, and california). The fish was well portioned and seemed fresh. The maki were relatively small, but you know what, I think that's good! I don't want to fill up on rolls, just gimme those big slabs of fish!! I hope that Raku does well; it seems like whenever I pass by them (which is atleast once a week) the parking lot is fairly empty and it wasn't packed the Friday evening that we went, but it seems like they're making an honest effort, and most importantly, their sushi is very well done!

Nice place to go for Sushi, everything is fresh and the rice is not mushy at all. Staffs are very friendly. Don't forget to try the Japanese silky tofu ( silky fried soft tofu with garlic salt on top sprinkles with some peppers, scallions and thinly sliced lettuce). Yum

I love it here! It's neatly tucked away in the business district on E Ogden. The decor tastefully decorated and the food was good. It was great venue for a medium sized group. A few people order the Fire Dragon roll special, which I think is a stunning plate in both taste and presentation

I have tried all of the sushi restaurants in the area and this is by far the best. They have quality food that is always consistent. Love this place!

Two words...SLOW SERVICE. Took about 45 minutes to get appetizers then they couldn't get out sushi for another hour. Worst part was people who came after us were getting their food. Seinfeld four! To be fair sushi was pretty good.

One of my favorite sushi places. Everything is always fresh and well presented. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the service is always friendly, unlike some other places in the area.

GREAT food and Great people! Loved everything...not basic at all. If you are looking for generic made sushi- you won't find it here...quality! Owners are super nice and come out and thank-you for your business... means a lot with this economy! We ordered a sampler plate (4 rolls with 4 pieces each) there are a few different types you can order, but we had the one with - cali roll, eel roll, dragon roll and a crunchy shrimp roll- the cali roll is very simple but that goes without saying. We also ordered a full roll of the crunchy shrimp and this cream cheese eel roll. I didn't favor the eel roll but my boyfriend liked it and he hates "fishy" rolls- I loved the crunchy shrimp roll! He also ordered a "Lion's Roll" which had cream cheese, crab, shrimp and some sauces- he loved it.

This is a new favorite for us and we've become regulars. It's a bit of a hidden gem since the restaurant sits a little ways back from the street but the food is great and the service is friendly. We're fans of the sushi, and they have some great items we haven't seen elsewhere (try the fire dragon, which is served flaming!) We've also tried the teriyaki and bento boxes, also pretty good. They also have a nice selection of sake. The restaurant seems to be family owned and the people who run it are friendly and remember their regular customers. This has become a favorite and lately we've been there almost once a week.

Don't be scared by the empty parking lot! Enjoyed the sushi at Raku -- my order of sushi was a little warm despite coming very quickly and a bit too chewy. The atmosphere is very quite. It was great for catching up with a friend, but might be a little too low key for a first date!

decided to vary out of my routine and try raku instead of my usual sushi place. this place is even better than my usual fave. the presentation was awesome, the staff is beyond friendly. love the vibe here, will be back again....and again.

I had a spur of the moment decision to give this newer place a try. Menus and prices were available online, and prices seem reasonable, so I placed a take-out order for a few favorite nigiri-shusi and a few different spicy rolls. I was delighted with welcoming pick-up service, and surprised with the care and presentation provided in a large party-tray style container. The quality was outstandingly fresh, and the quantity/cuts were very generous. I don't believe I've seen pieces of Hamachi, Toro, and Sake this large. The rolls were at least as good as my usual sushi house, but these guys are much closer to me. I believe the overall value was enough to consider Raku my choice, and since the dining room looked comfortable, and we'll have to try dine-in next time.

I would give their sushi 1 star out of 5 stars service 5 out of 5 stars I had a fried rice dish which it was pretty good but this is a japanese restaurant, i expected to eat "better" quality sushi!!! Seriously, if they have better sushi, i would totally go back there again.

Since I do not think Naperville got too many variety of Japanese restaurant, so I still think it's a good idea to have Raku Sushi, honestly the food didn't impress me a lot. Udon soup noodles and tempura wasn't taste too good, I had some sushi rolls and I think it's not too bad! They do have a extensive menu of different variety of sushi, bento, ramen, remen, etc. Price is standard which I think it's match with the quality of food. Service was pretty good! Raku do have their lunch menu and the price is pretty cheap. Atmosphere is not bad, just I think they must improve the quality of food if they want to gain more business in that area.

I'm not sure why this place has such high reviews. Yelp has finally lead me down the wrong road. We went on a Friday night at 7pm and was surprised to find an empty parking lot/restaurant. How can you have fresh fish at a sushi restaurant with little turn-over? I guess people consider freshly thawed to be fresh. For my money, I would rather drive 45 minutes to Mitsuwa and get sushi - at least you'll pay $10 vs. $25 at Raku for worst quality. Naperville yelpers need their taste buds checked!

  • Lynaire A.

The staff here is extremely friendly and very accomodating. The owner doesn't act like she's too good for you, she actually talks to you and makes you feel welcome. There are a couple other sushi restaurants in the area, but this is well worth it. Since I work nearby, I typically just go for lunch. For under $10 you get 4 different rolls, a small salad and miso soup. It is more than enough sushi to fill you up. If you were to get that for dinner that would be at least $20- easy. Overall Raku Sushi is my main choice out from the handful I have to choose from.

Love this place- I really wish we didn't live so far, because then we'd come way more often. The owners are so sweet- they always recognize us . Everything we've ever ordered has been delicious. My favorite is the Beef Udon Soup- it is seriously the best broth I've ever had. I worry that they don't get enough business, because they are always near-empty, but I hope they stay in business for a long long time!

Outstanding! Authentic! Great staff! Wonderful prices! A weekly stop for us. Hope it can survive the curse of Ogden avenue. Please people's try this place. You will not be disappointed.

For what it's worth, this place is pretty nice. I'm used to eating really expensive mediocre sushi in the suburbs so eating at RAKU sushi was actually fairly decently priced! Now I'm not an "expert" on sushi so I couldn't be able to tell you in terms of the QUALITY if it was good sushi or not. However, I know that if you get the combination platters, they come with a about 3 or 4 different rolls for only $10! That's pretty nice! Also, my husband and I ordered the Tropical roll with mango and it was really good! Now the table next to me ordered a HUGE LOVE BOAT SUSHI platter with about 10 different rolls or so and it looked so delicious! The prices for the huge platters range from $60-$100 dollars. I would definitely come to this place again. Perhaps for lunch since their BENTO boxes are pretty cheap and sounds good.

If you live in Naperville or surrounding areas, you have to try this place. We just moved from the city to Naperville and were pleased to find this new addition amidst fairly plain restaurants on Ogden Avenue. We order take-out from Raku at least once every two weeks as an alternative to cooking or other fast food choices. The sushi is pretty tasty and fresh. I love that they have a larger Japanese menu. The boxed sets, the udon, tempura, and appetizers (try the lotus root chips) are all good, fairly portioned, and reasonable--especially during lunch. The ambience is very nice (decor is beautiful) and the owners and servers are very friendly. I still can't believe the owners transformed a divey Baker's Square (I used to hang out in my high school days) into this aesthetically pleasing sushi restaurant. While it's a gem on Ogden Avenue, I'm not sure if Raku is faring as well as it might on a trendier strip of restaurants like in Downtown Naperville. So, I hope it stays, because it is conveniently located and worthwhile!

In terms of the quality of the food, it's nothing you can't find in the city of Chicago, so it's not worth making that special trip to Naperville if you're from the city. The food was great, but not extraordinary. What was extraordinary though, was the customer service and the decor. There was such a huge parking lot for customers that I felt good knowing that I didn't have to look for street parking or worry about my car when I was dining. When I walked in, I immediately felt very comfortable. The Japanese decorations and the gigantic fish tank containing very colorful fishes was intriguing and delightful. The colors of the decor and the carpeting made me feel like I was in an elegant Japanese restaurant. Everything was very clean, which is very important to me. The owners (a husband and wife team) came by to greet us and they were EXTREMELY friendly and nice. I liked them instantly. No matter how busy they were, they always had time to chat with us and made sure that we were enjoying the meal. The sushi came out artfully arranged in a pretty boat and the tempura pieces were arranged in a lattice, which caused many ooohs and ahhhs around the dinner table. Even the little things like their cute tea cups and soy sauce bottles that were so elegant and classy with Chinese and English words painted on them, made me feel good to be there. They get an A+ for presentation and decor!!! Also, an A+ for terrific service!!!

Amazingly good prices for unique and delicious sushi. The best in Naperville. My husband and I go about every couple weeks and it is our favorite. The service is excellent and the variety is great. I love their Shrimp Crunch, Philadelphia, Tropical, and White Dragon rolls. Hand rolls are also amazing, but a little pricey. The sign off of Ogden is a little hard to find, but it is worth the trip! I've taken several friends to this restaurant and they all love it. The ambiance is super relaxing as well.

One late Sunday night, we decided to try Raku Sushi because we've had several recommendations that it would be pretty good. It was pretty empty going there, but the service was great. As mentioned on other reviews, it is a Chinese owned, because our server/host/owner was Chinese and was a really nice guy. I was immediately apprehensive that the sushi was going to be any good if it wasn't being run by Japanese people, but I was surprised on how good the food tasted.

I love this place. I wish more people knew about it. It has decent prices, and the owners are more than willing to go out of their way for you if you have special requests. We eat here or get carry out an average of once a week. The lunch specials are also excellent! I highly recommend it.

I work just a few blocks away and this is a great lunch value. No where else have I found a spot for quick, sit-down sushi for this price. And I don't find the quality to be much different than I get at a high-end sushi place in the city that's around the corner from my home. Super friendly wait staff without being obtrusive.

In my opinion, it is the best sushi place in chicagoland - definitely naperville. $8.95 for a big chicken teriyaki box lunch w chicken, sushi, vegetable tempura and rice? How can u beat that? The service is outstanding.

I think I've been here about ten times since they opened and have always been very satisfied. The staff, the chefs, and the owner are always making sure you are fully satisfied. Typically your server is the only one that will ask this question. A great extensive menu and everything I've tried has been great. I'll be back many many times.

I think it is hard to find good Asian food in the burbs so I initially gave this place 4 stars. But now I'm changing it to 3 starts because I've realized I really wouldn't return here, whether or not there is a dearth of good asian food in the burbs. I got 3 things here- sushi, agedashi tofu, and shrimp shumai. The shumai were fantastic, though they reminded more of the shrimp dumplings you'd get for Chinese dim-sum than they did of Japanese shumai. The sushi was fresh- not at all fishy, but not the best I've had in my life either. But again, it was good for the suburbs. The agedashi tofu was a huge disappointment. It was just pieces of deep-fried tofu- not agedashi tofu at all. There was no characteristic sauce, and if there were any bonito flakes, I couldn't find them.

Went here for my birthday with my wife and 2 teenagers, and we loved it. I work downtown and eat sushi with clients all the time. I thought Raku held up very well, and this was our first visit. The prices, quality of fish, freshness, and decor were all great. The saltwater tank is a great touch. We thought the food and atmosphere were far better than Moon Sun, Sushi Ra, Nagano, Sushi House wheaton, and a number of others in the west burbs. the reviews on Google places are more accurate to this place, because as usual, there seem to be some Yelp reviewers who prefer Dominick's Sushi, or getting Tonkatsu over actual Sushi in a Sushi bar that serves other, traditional Japanese food as well. We truly had a great experience and will be back. The value is incredibly great given the quality of food and the service. Is it Japonais or Sushi Samba ? No. I didn't expect it to be, and it doesn't pretend to be.

I cannot believe this place has that many stars. I ate here a few weeks ago and the only nice thing about this place was the decor. I got the miso soup there and it was bland, and lacking green onions and tofu. It barely had any. I got the chefs choice sashimi sushi. The sushi did not taste fresh at all. Two of the pieces of fish were discolored and had a few spots of a brownish red coloring. it did not look appetizing and it did not taste fresh. also the waitress was very rude. i stopped by to eat very quickly before a doctors appointment and ended up only eating half of my food and when i asked for a TO-GO box the waitress started making comments like " you barely ate your food. Why have you left so much behind? Do you have an appointment?(I had a cast on my finger) and it made me feel very uncomfortable it was weird. The quality is awful and definately not worth the price. It is so overpriced for such crappy sushi. I would never go back there again.

This place is really good for people who have never tried sushi before. The owners are very friendly and they can make any sushi /maki rolls to order if you don't want to order off their regular menu. Brought a few friends to this place and they had never tried sushi before and they left with a good experience which speaks volumes of this place. Definitely would recommend this place to others.

While waiting for my car to get fixed at Midas, I wandered over to Raku Sushi and was surprised by an affordable lunch menu and incredibly tasty sushi! I had the #7 lunch special including california rolls, a crunchy shrimp roll, rainbow roll, salmon roll, salad and miso soup for only $9.95. The sushi was so fresh and light, not salty or overly fried for the shrimp. The mayonnaise on the rainbow roll had just the right amount of tart. Goodness I kept thinking despite strong local competition this would be my new Japanese local squarely based on price, quality, and taste. And the green tea, no after taste, perfectly brewed, Jasmine tea-like lightness- simply perfect! The environs are clean and crisp with new cherry hardwood, leather booths and modern lightening. Mix in friendly, down to earth service, and what more do you need? I'd recommend this place for any sushi-inspired lunch or dining adventure.

the sushi chefs cut my sashimi in chunks rather than fillet type slices - it was served like fat square sticks. Definitely NOT the most appealing way to have sashimi. One piece had a hunk of grisle in it. one piece of fish was not so fresh. the rest was ok. The california roll was anorexic - THE smallest pieces i've ever seen - and only 4 of them! I had the sashimi - sushi dinner combo that comes with spicy tuna. I asked to have that replaced with plain tuna - tekka - had to pay $2 extra, even thou on their menu the 2 are priced the same. server said the spicy tuna is a lesser quality of tuna that is chopped up and mixed with mayo - glad to steer clear of that! we asked for miso soup. it never was served. the good thing - also they did not charge for the soup. No salad, no warm, damp napkins at the beginning of the meal to clean your hands with. We were not offered any dessert either! we will not go back.

Attended this place this past weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had crunchy shrimp roll, the spider roll, smoked salmon sashimi, edamame, miso soup, Thai iced tea, and the shrimp dumpling appetizer. The crunchy shrimp roll was delicious. It had the perfect amount of crunch! The spider roll was good, but not as visually appealing as some others I have seen. The sashimi was good. The edamame was very good. They lightly salt it, which makes it extra tasty! The miso soup was pretty standard. The Thai iced tea was good, as they served it pre-stirred, which was a nice change from the usual. The shrimp dumpling appetizer was very good. You can get it steamed or fried. We chose steamed, which was the right choice, I believe. The presentation of the food was great. There was one male member of the staff who was very friendly, and quite bubbly. The rest of the staff was very friendly as well. The prices were pretty standard for a sushi place. All in all - we will definitely be returning!

Lovely! Went here with my sister and 18th month old. One of those days where the little one is a little fussy. Servers were super nice and chatty with little one and very attentive to our table. Ordered the salted chicken congee.. perfect for a sore throat and little one kept muttering yumm nguymmm yumm.. Nuff said. Also ordered fire dragon roll, a spicy tuna roll, shrimp crepes and choy sum vege dish. Simply delish. So very glad I found this place.. amazing dim sum without going to chinatown, comfort congee (nguymm yumm yumm) and spicy tuna rolls. Will be back, will recommend to people I know.

The best dim sum in Chicago is in the burbs. You heard right. We've had dim sum on the north side and in Chinatown and this folks beats them all. They serve it every day all day long. The dishes are all prepared when you order which is why it takes a little longer to get served. But well worth the wait. Nothing is made ahead of time and the dim sum is very very fresh. Also, the owner and his wife were super friendly and told us all about how they make their dim sum right in their kitchen. Them, their chef and their staff drive in from Chicago each day. And the price is really reasonable. My wife and I had 9 dishes and tea - totally stuffed. Bill came out to $38. Sorry downtown Chicago but we're staying in the burbs for dim sum from now on.

Walking into this place brought back memories of late nights at Baker's Square... Came here for dim sum and wasn't disappointed. I like that they cook things to order rather than pushing a cart around. Everything we ordered came out just right, hot, and/or crispy. Definitely beats driving into Chicago for dimsum, especially with 2 littles. The staff were very helpful.

  • Liezl A.

Been here twice and it's still just as good as the first one for dimsum! The menu is similar to that of Chinatown, you order what you'd like and each plate ranges in price from small to extra large. The soup dumplings were good too! I'd have to say its the best dimsum that's in the area. Will keep coming back here if we're not in Chinatown :) *haven't tried the sushi here, just the dimsum

We didn't find out this awesome place till my friends said this place started to sell the dim sum all day long about a month ago. It turned out they not only have decent dim sum but also delicious Sushi. To top that off, I really enjoyed the services too. We visited this place twice in a week. My kids finished edamame, Xiao long Bao, and pan fried pork buns in no time before I could take a decent picture of those. Chicken congee, steamed chicken feet, and Cantonese shrimp crepe were all delicious with the right flavor. Among the dim sum dishes, my personal favorite is the sesame balls which didn't have the typical filling of red bean paste but with egg yolk. Very rich but super tasty with the crunchy sweet rice shell. I tried the spicy tuna, unagi, and salmon sashimi. All are fresh and flavorful. I liked the spicy tuna the best. Kids loved the unagi - grilled eel. We also tried the grilled fish jaw based on the photo from a fellow yelper. It had a Very clean taste as it did not have any seasoning on the fish just the nice grill flavor. An unique dish to eat. The owner was there waiting the tables along with another nice lady. Both of them were great with my kids and accommodate us as much as they could. Really enjoyed the chat with them.

I have eaten at Raku more times than I can count. Not only do they know my order when I call, but they ask how my extended family is doing when my husband and I dine in. The owners and staff are so hard working and you can tell they truly love and care about what they do as well as for their customers. Coming from the east coast and always having access to fresh fish, I was a little worried about moving to the Midwest and getting decent sushi. Well, I got better than I was hoping for. I found a place that sells phenomenal sushi. You can tell from the moment you walk in that the fish is fresh because there is no fishy smell when you enter. I typically order 3 tuna cucumber rolls (the tuna is fantastic). My husband goes between the Lion Dance, Mexican and also enjoys the sweet potato (he's a beginner). Their sashimi is also wonderful. Try the super white tuna -- it melts in your mouth!

I have been here twice now with my boyfriend. First time great food and good service second time even better also bonus points for taking car of your exotic fish and their tank. Delicious smoothies as well. Unlike most of Naperville I didn't get a "snob" vibe.

I love the food but I hate the service. We waited for like 20mins for the server to take our order. Then our sushi was served right away but we had to wait more than 30mins for our dim sum. Then a male server was server rude when we asked for our check and a box then we waited again to get the check & they forgot our box so we waited again. All in all we pretty much wasted an hour for waiting.

Went here on a sushi craving on the recommendation of a friend..wow..delish! Great sushi. Not a very fancy place, but the sushi is fantastic. I had the fire roll, the lion roll, and a few pieces. All very good...I will go back! A hidden gem for sure.

Came here with the intention of getting sushi, but noticed the dim sum menu and everything else went out the window. While it certainly can't compare to Chinatown, it was good enough. We were one of the last tables to be seated, didn't know what time they closed, and were essentially rushed out the door so they could all go home. While I understand how annoying it must be to seat people so close to closing, if they would have told us that BEFORE seating us, that would have helped.

Went for lunch with my family on Saturday. Words cannot describe how underwhelming this experience was... The outside was shabby and not in good repair. Stepping inside the door and it strongly smells of incense smoke. The smoke and odor was so strong it seemed to be masking something. I should have turned around then. The food was assembly line and barely edible. I won't go into detail about everything but will tell you the salads were poorly chopped iceberg lettuce and a VERY orange dressing was covering it... Clearly from a can and presentation was not on their mind. Won't be back.

Maybe I've been spoiled with good sushi & dim sum my whole life but I wouldn't say this place was "good". I'll start with dim sum, as I grew up eating it in Chinatown. I came here with my parents because they wanted to check out a dim sum place closer than the city. I eat the same dishes every time I eat dim sum and the food was not good..... At all. Had to send back 4 dishes because it was still raw in the center. Like cold and pink... And my fried sweet ball with meat had all this white residue on the inside. $50 later we didn't even eat half the dishes. Would rather drive the extra distance to Chinatown. I also ordered the lunch box lunches they offered and I had the fried pork cutlet. It was so thin and hard I couldn't even bite through it. It was drenched in sauce. The ambience was cute. Small Japanese place. Servers were really nice and apologetic. I won't be back. You can get way way way better food for cheaper elsewhere.

We came for a Sunday Dim Sum brunch. Loved the food, all the dishes that we ordered were fantastic except xiao long bro, which were dry, while soup shall be wrapped inside the xiao long bao. However I should still consider five stars for the food. Service was not that great I am afraid and that's why I can only give four star overall.

We have tried so many sushi places in the area and this one is our favorite. Great portions and prices. Staff is always kind and on top of things. Never had a problem and we have been here at least a dozen times. Not the fanciest sushi place, but the food is great!

This is my all time favorite sushi place! I love their volcano roll and phoenix roll the best. Also, I always have a Sapporo beer which is awesome. The service is always phenomenal and the atmosphere is excellent. Don't miss out on this restaurant! :)

We didn't come for the sushi, but for the Dim sum which we had heard was alright. Food: Good tasting traditional dim sum but some of the dishes came out cold and not very fresh. Price was a little bit unfair due to the quality but I suspect they are only doing well because they are one of the only dim sum places in the area. Atmosphere: Decent for a sushi restaurant but unusual for a dim sum place. The servers were also all very nice but a little slow and unprofessional. We were also wrongly charged for 6 person tea when we only had 4 people so go over your check before you pay! SIDENOTE: All dishes were very oily. Most of the dishes were sitting in pools of oil.

I went to Raku for a friend's birthday. The exterior of the building looks pretty shady. At first my husband and I were like, "Why did she pick this place of all the Sushi places in Naperville?" She later informed us that she was also skeptical after driving by it, but it got really good reviews! Please do not be fooled by the outside. This place is awesome! As soon as we walked in, it was like a completely different restaurant. I love the decor, very chic. The ceiling especially. You will see what I'm talking about when you visit. There are cute colored lights everywhere. We were greeted and sat almost immediately which was nice considering it was evening time on a weekend (although she might have made a reservation). Either way, it wasn't packed. Our waitress was really great. She explained the menu and the specials to us and took our drink orders. They have thai tea, which is a favorite of mine. Theirs is really good! I can't speak on the sushi because I didn't try any but my friends ordered a variety of it and they really liked it. It was also a great price for how much you get considering sushi is normally pretty pricey. I ordered the hibachi and I love it! They brought it out in this pretty little box and it came with sooo much food! I'm talking chicken, steak, shrimp, fried vegetables, salad AND soup, and dessert! All for a seriously great price. My husband ordered the steak curry and it was spicy and delicious. I will definitely be back here. The service was great and so were the prices. Although the building isn't much on the outside, the inside is clean and beautifully decorated. I would highly recommend this place.

I wasn't blown away by Raku. There are about a billion (rough estimate) other sushi places in the area, and every other one is better than Raku. The menu selection is average: we ordered the Spicy Tuna, Mexican, Rainbow, and Shrimp Crunch. Everything was okay, but I mean "okay" as in, it was edible, fairly priced, but really not much better than grocery store sushi. Some of the rolls fell apart easily, and they charge extra for additional wasabi or ginger, which is kind of lame. I wouldn't come here again because I can better quality and variety elsewhere. The ambience is casual, and the restaurant is dimly lit. Loud talkers should avoid the place, because I could clearly hear just about every conversation around me. It isn't cozy or romantic, and the Christmas lights that are on the windows belong either A) decorating a dorm room or B) on a Christmas tree. The service was pretty slow too. Nothing made the experience horrible, but nothing made it great either. Sushi fail.

Dim sum is on point here. Sushi is eh. I got a couple rolls and it could maybe have been fresher. The tempura flakes tasted stale. I'll be back for sure but more so for the dim sum.

NOT a fan of the sushi, but the DIM SUM is GOOD!! An ex-chef from Chinatown makes all of their dim sum in-house. SO HAPPY to have a good local dim sum place at all hours too!!

BEFORE YOU GET BORED, take this away from my review: do yourself a favor and drive a mile east down Ogden and go to Tairyo for sushi. The owner is so nice and everyone who works there treats customers with KINDNESS AND RESPECT. They have phenomenal hibachi and sushi. Do not waste your hard earned money at Raku. My experience: I am a regular customer here, which you would think would be appreciated by the owners....I thought wrong. The service is always awful. On one occasion when my boyfriend and I had gotten take out, we ordered 4 roles, there are usually 8-10 pieces per role, so about 30-40 pieces total. I had asked for low sodium soy sauce and the employee said they didn't have any. I said, there is a green bottle on every single table in the restaurant, how can you tell me you don't have low sodium soy sauce? She said she didn't have them in the "to go packets." I then asked if she could pour some into the little plastic containers. She then said she would have to CHARGE me a dollar for each container!! I said, you mean to tell me that every customer that comes into your restaurant and uses your low sodium soy sauce gets charge $1? Your customers use the low sodium soy sauce for free and you're going to charge me $1?! She then only gave me ONE little container of soy sauce for 40 roles and two people sharing the order! To say I was floored is an understatement. The customer service at this place is non existent. Upon going back this week, I again asked for low sodium soy sauce, this time she put it in an even SMALLER container than last time to prove a point. The lady then mentioned she is only giving it to me because she didn't want me to give her restaurant a bad review. I simply said I didn't appreciate how she handled the situation, especially as a loyal customer. She told me it didn't matter that I'm a loyal customer because she has A LOT of loyal customers. Needless to say, I walked out WITHOUT my order due to how RUDE she treated me for a 2nd time!!! No customer deserves to be treated or spoken to that way. There is not a chance in hell I will EVER return to this horrible place. You've been warned!

Personal favorite maki place! They greet you instantly and the woman remembers us each time, asks about school, etc. The servers sometimes forget if you ask for something extra (straw, etc) but aside from that, absolutely love going here.

We got here at around 8:10PM, ordered an edamame to start with. Then the server did not show up until 8:50ish. And then she was rushing us by saying it would probably be the last call. (By the way the site says it is open until 10 PM, and they had guests coming in after 9:30PM) The salad was really good. So we had some hope. The Miso soup not worth remembering, the chicken curry and veggie fried rice were both mediocre. We ordered Rainbow Sushi, California Roll and Spicy Tuna. The spicy tuna was the only good sushi. (How can you mess up California Roll?) We also ordered the Calamari Tempura and it was not good either. Maybe we caught these guys on a bad day, but the 4.0 average rating was nowhere to be seen. What I find intolerable is the server LYING about the hours and the last call. Oh and they charged a dollar for extra ginger. I do not say this often, but I will not be eating here anymore.

My husband had tried sushi on a business trip and was hooked. We decided to try some sushi in our area. We tried out another restaurant on a recommendation and it was just okay. The next day, the husband decided we should have sushi again, and try a different restaurant, so we did. Funny thing is, I am a vegan, and he is not. At the first sushi restaurant, the waitress looked at me funny and said she could get them not to put crab in the California rolls. I was kinda surprised, as I thought sushi was made fresh. Anyway, at Raku, the waitress wasn't even phased. She recommended several items, one being the sweet potato rolls. OMG they were delicious. I ordered four rolls and my husband two. I took most of mine home with a unique sweet and sour sauce that had a kick. The staff was very accommodating and welcoming. We will be back, many times.

As the popular phrase goes "don't judge a book (restaurant) by it's cover (outside)." This goes for Raku Sushi because when you pass it along Ogden Avenue in Naperville, you don't think it would be very gourmet. Step inside and you are shown how great of a place it is and how tasty their cuisine is too, especially the sushi. When going in for dinner one night with my mother, we were surprised at how great their service and food was. We ordered an appetizer which came out right away, and then we ordered a variety of sushi and maki to share, which was nicely presented and as tasty as it looked. They also kept coming back to refill our drinks as needed too, which is always a plus when eating out. So step outside your comfort zone, try new places, and don't always judge a place by how it looks from the road. Give Raku Sushi Gourmet a try if you are a sushi fan.

I love everything about Raku. The food is awesome, the service is amazing, the decor is beautiful. Came here for a friends birthday, they ordered many rolls of sushi. Being a vegetarian at sushi place Raku has a varitey of options. I ordered the tofu udon noodles which were delicious. My friends ordered a variety of rolls, the owners also gave us free saki shots for my friends birthday!! Next time my friend goes she said she will order one of the extravagant sushi boats, Will be back for sure. Great food, amazing hospitable service, beautiful decor.

Do you know one of those restaurants that you always say "Oh yeah, that was fantastic! The food was great and it was cheap!" and yet, you have never returned? This is that place for us. We have very positive feelings towards it, but have yet to go back. It's still in business, so it must be doing well, because businesses that do just ok in Naperville don't stay open very long! We got a huge boat of sushi with 5 rolls and several pieces of nigiri. Plus a couple bowls of miso. It was all about $50. The place was empty, and out of every corner of the place there appeared to be employees smiling at us. At one point we looked towards the kitchen and three people (from the back) were looking at us, smiling. It was a bit goofy. Maybe because we were the only people there and they wanted to ensure our satisfaction was through the roof. Either way, I can't say anything bad about this place. Maybe I'll head there sometime soon.

"Hello, may I please leave a review for the worst night of service of my life?" "Oh yes, I'll get it ready for you right away" ..... {20 minutes later) "Okay you may write your review now" --- *That is the preview for this upcoming review. Warning, if you experience anxiety, nausea, fainting spells, bursts of rage, depression, hallucinations or extreme headaches please be advised that this review may not be for you. --- I would like to first of all point out how rare it is that I submit a one star review. As of today I have 84 five star reviews, 27 four star reviews, 6 three stars, 4 two stars and this will make my 5th one star. Obviously, I am not hard to please. It takes a lot to piss me off. Enjoy. --- 7:30pm on a Friday evening | Group of 10 trickle in and are seated immediately. We casually order various appetizers and drinks. Everything seems like it will be fine. Just like the start to a horror movie... We should have realized that something was amiss when my younger brother's appetizer was mysteriously forgotten. Later, we looked back on this seemingly trite occurrence and wished so dearly that we would've taken it to mind, instead of brushing it off so flippantly. 8:00 | We've all been ready to order for a while and we are trying to make it to Saddle Up for some line dancing before they end it at 10. So, I call the waitress over and ask if we can place our orders. She says yes, and that she will be right back. She mysteriously disappears for a time - just like my little brother's appetizer order... Is there something in the restaurant that we don't know about? Perhaps a wormhole into a different world? Maybe there is a giant monster living underneath that needs constant food and attention. I don't know. But one thing I do know, there is something fishy about this place - and not just because it's a sushi restaurant ; ) 8:20 | Our waitress comes back to take our order. Now, I'm not the best at math, but I do know that from 8:00 to 8:20 = 20 minutes. What!? 20 minutes!? What was she doing!? Where did she disappear to for 20 minutes!? {Let me take a moment to remind you that we were a TABLE OF 10 PEOPLE} Also, this is a sushi restaurant, right? So. Like most sushi restaurants - all we had to do was.... hand. her. our. sheets. of. paper. with. our. sushi. orders. marked... she didn't even have to write anything down. She could have picked up our silly little papers 20 minutes ago and we could have maybe had our food by now... --- I would like to reiterate my warning from the beginning. If you've made it this far and you think you're doing okay - I'm sorry my friend, but it gets much. much worse. --- Time passes. Some of us start to believe we are in purgatory. Others begin to eat invisible food off their plates. Everyone uses the bathroom at least once and there are multiple smoke breaks. We have drank all of the soy sauce and eaten all of the garnishes from our appetizers. ....Let me remind you that we had wanted to leave by 8:30/8:45 so we could make it to saddle up for some line dancing. Also - this is a group of people that for the most part don't live near the naperville/aurora area - so we don't get to go every day. We picked this place specifically because it was close to Saddle Up - and they were able to take a last minute large table reservation. Also I trusted the yelp reviews. I still trust yelp. I won't take this experience out on yelp. I only wish that my review could count for negative stars so as to help people steer clear of an awful experience like mine. I digress... 9:10 | At this point - we all probably look like that skeleton in Snow White that is reaching through the bars for a jar containing a single drop of water. I actually saw the eyes of a cannibal in my best friend's expression for a moment and I feared for me life. The waitress finally appears from whatever mysterious thing is happening in this restaurant that we can't see. She comes over to me and I am so excited, my heart almost leaps out of my throat {It's a good thing it didn't, because I probably would've eaten it - and then I would be dead right now} She tells me that.... Oh, it's too difficult to relive. I feel like I may be experiencing minor ptsd from the experience - but I must. push. through. it. She says.... not apologetically, but in a practical, this is the way life is sort of way: "they are starting your food now" whuuu? uh. bbbuut. whu. uh. uh. uh!? WHART!? um. EXCUSE ME!?! I get angry. My boyfriend gets angry. He goes over and at least gets a nice amount off each of our tabs - but nothing could make up for our experience so far. And it's. not. over. 9:35 | Our food all comes at different times. We all eat it like monsters. One couple gets their food after everyone is done and has to eat by themselves. At this point, I go to the waitress to ask for the bills. 9:55 | Our bills finally come. 10:00 | We all go home. I guess no Saddle Up tonight. This is my 5001 character mark.

I'd give this place 4 stars but their service sucks. Food takes forever to come out. And don't bother asking for anything else once you've ordered your food. They won't remember what you asked for or bring it to you when you don't need it anymore. Now to the food. Tried the chicken udon soup. I loved it. It's very similar to "kow piek sin" aka Laotian chicken noodle soup. Also tried their fried rice and yakisoba. Both good but wish the portions were bigger. Overall I'd continue to go here because it's not too far and prices are decent.

It was yet another solo sushi date for this lone wolf. Looking to escape the monsoon happening outside, I sought refuge (and piping hot green tea) inside an empty Raku. I was greeted promptly and with big smiles from the staff of Raku and quickly sat at small booth in the front dining area. The decor is fun with paper umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, a salt water fish tank and geisha statue with stacked sake barrels near the entrance. And my server had a contagious smile and everyone working was friendly and welcoming. I started with a standard bowl of miso soup. It wasn't the best miso I'd ever had and I was a bit disappointed that the bowl was really only barely half full, but it was only $2 and helped warm me up none the less, also helped along by the whole pot of hot tea they left for me on the table. I drank so much, it felt like I could've floated out of there. My next course involved my go-to spicy tuna roll and a light avocado roll. I felt like the spicy tuna was okay. Not better, pretty good, but not a star and not at all spicy. Then again, it looked like some of their more signature rolls were where the big show was, but I avoided as I'm not huge on tempura but for my next visit, I think I'll definitely break down and give it a try. They look really well done and other reviewers seem to have enjoyed them. The avocado roll was simple but great. Creamy with plenty of avocado and not the kind of veggie roll where you really only taste the rice. I left stuffed for only $14 and some change and happy with my decision to break from my rainy day activities and errands to be greeted with smiles that would stay fresh in memory for the rest of the otherwise grey and dreary day.

The slowest service of all sushi places I have been to. Food just OK, like generic nothing special sushi stuff, special rolls are overpriced. When I ordered 10 pcs sashimi assortment they included 2 crab imitation sticks and one shrimp in total count. Although the restaurant is spaceous and conveniently located I will not return since it doesn't appear to be managed well. And to further add to my dissatisfaction they don't accept American Express.

While Raku is easy to overlook when driving past, (It's next to the Wendy's) it is a great spot for a quick Sushi lunch! The food is always fresh, quick, and filling. The sushi was nice restaurant quality. The flavors are what you would expect from a sushi joint - nothing too surprising. The prices are great, especially for the $10 lunch specials -- They fill you up!

I LOVE Raku! I've been coming here for years since they first opened. The staff is always friendly and goes above and beyond (aways asks how my university education is going...they remember their regulars for sure!) and it doesn't hurt that the food is awesome. Very reasonable price considering that they will only serve sushi made of fresh ingredients, and if that particular ingredient is unavailable super fresh that day, they will inform you that, unfortunately, that roll is not available. I love the honesty, especially with raw seafood! Recently they started offering dim-sum which is so yummy. If you go I recommend the dragon roll (my favorite) from the sushi menu and the dumplings from the dim-sum menu. In short, I absolutely recommend this place to anybody in the Naperville area. In browsing through some yelp reviews I noticed a couple of customers point out that at busy times they seemed to wait for their food. I just want to throw out there, that, yes, on a Friday night at 8:00pm with a party of 10 people, your food is not going to be ready by 8:15pm. To be honest, I'd rather figure an extra ten minute wait for my dinner and know my money is going toward a hard-working family business, rather than some McDonald's-esque business who could have my food out in 5 minutes, is worth it to me. P.S.: They do takeout too!!! Box everything very conveniently and have it ready for you ASAP

After many of the reviews here I went expecting a fun dining experience, however we were disappointed. We were seated quickly but then "quickly" went bye bye. The service was very slow. It appeared that our server had too many tables to herself although there would be s younger guy who would pop out once in awhile. She took forever to take our drink order. And then for the drinks took forever to come out too. She wasn't all that friendly either, probably due to being overly busy. As far as the décor..yes they had there paper umbrellas hanging from the ceiling but the place looked tired rather than fun. We had several different rolls and they were fine. The prices are reasonable but given everything else I prefer Yamado across the street, much nicer and quicker service, food is equal and prices are the same.

Average sushi spot. It's affordable but very basic. Nothing special. The sushi was great. However, the preparation was VERY slow compared to what I've experienced in the past. I visited with a group of 7. It took over an hour for 7-10 rolls to be prepared. The bathroom was dim and NOT clean.

sushi with dim sum doesn't equal to great sushi or sashimi. We ordered Tonka sure which way too thick with no flavor and sushi dish which the fish was dry and limp. The raw fish looked like it was in the fridge way too long. The price wasn't cheap either. With a bill of 50 plus for two dish and a appetizer I say go some where else for this price. Highly disappointed.

My fiance and I came here for the first time. It was around 1pm on a Saturday and we were the only customers in there. We got one of the Makimono rolls- 4 california, 4 crunchy shrimp, 4 salmon, and 4 philadelphia. It was pretty good! We also got a phoenix roll which was pretty good as well. The waitress/owner was super nice and talked to us for 5 minutes. We would definitely come back!

This a good choice for a mixed group of people who do and do not like sushi. The varied menu includes grilled skewer appetizers, miso, tempura, curry over rice, fried rice with a choice of meats, and noodle soups. The shrimp shumai appetizer was very good. There is an extensive list of maki rolls. Everything we ordered was good, but lacked a bit in visual presentation. The Hamachi Guacamole roll had a nice zing of lime to balance the mild fish. The Fire Dragon with scallop, tuna, cucumber and avocado was also very good. The Lion Dance was ok but had too many tempura crumbs dumped on top. Prices are reasonable.

The boyfriend and I have been craving sushi for the past two weeks, we tried this place by my school and it was ON POINT. We were really hungry so we ordered steamed shrimp shumai, gone in like two minutes. We ordered makimono rolls which are 4 pieces of 4 different rolls which worked perfectly because we got to try more rolls without ordering too much. In that order, it included a california, spicy tuna, eel and crunchy shrimp roll. On top of those we ordered spicy salmon and raku raku THEY WERE ALL SO GOOD. except for the california roll, just because it's so plain compared to all the other rolls we tried. The raku raku was good but that might be because it's fried...after a few pieces it got a little heavy for me.. I think my favorite was the crunchy shrimp roll... i cant wait to come back.

Nice spot and probably more ideal for dinner than lunch since it's just a wee bit pricier than one might normally spend on lunch. But the food is excellent. I brought my laptop in with me to work a bit during lunch and they were nice and seated me in a spot near an outlet. Waitress was friendly and checked in several times to make sure I liked what I ordered (she suggested some of the items). Really, can't say anything bad about the spot and it's for sure worth checking out. Will be back again as well!

This place is amazing. They have an awesome 250gal salt water tank place in the dining room. But, aside from that, I am a pretty big sushi fan and I'd have to say that this is one of the best sushi joints I've been to in the area. Took the g/f and a friend of mine here today and we all really enjoyed the food. Atmosphere is very pleasant and the staff is friendly. One of the owners, even took the time to talk about the salt water fish with us as well. Bottom line is that this is a great place to enjoy sushi and the price isn't too bad at all. I highly recommend this place.

This place sucks. I was here on Christmas Day, there restaurant had only four tables occupied which has been already served. First of all, it took them over 10 mins to come get our appetizer order. We had to wave several times to get someone's attention. They finally got the order. The appetizer wasn't even there 20 mins after that and when we called the waitress she didn't even listen to us and simply said with an attitude, I know your food isn't here. And quickly went away saying it'll be here soon. It still took them another 7mins to bring it out.. Oh well! We ordered steamed gyoza and they brought out fried. When we mentioned that the lady said, well the guy the took the order left. (Umm.. Is that my fuckin problem?) I said, well sorry but we can't have it. She instead of just saying sorry, which she didn't, said again with an attitude do you want to order another one. At that point we were beyond hungry so I said, no we will just have our entre order. And shamelessly she says,"oh, that isn't in yet. It'll take another 15mins for that". Duck that shit! At that point, I had it. We said, politely, we get to leave as it's been way over half an hour for our food to arrive and we get to be somewhere. To which, there is no apology at all from her at any time, and she argued how it had only 15mins since we had come. Wow! I couldn't believe it! She didn't apologize for their improper service at all and argued with us for leaving when half of our food wasn't right and the other half order wasn't even placed! I had it. I simply had to leave and say," well, you have other customers here why don't you take care of them at least they will have their service on time." It's hard for me to accept a service this lousy. I have worked in the food industry too but this is something I have never experienced. People in Naperville are doomed. Thankfully I'm from Los Angeles and would not have to go here again.

I had visited Raku last week (after reading all of the amazing reviews). I was so disappointed. Rolls were not good at all (tuna did not look fresh, rice was not the best I ever tried either). I, personally, never would go back. My companion was disappointed as well.

Wow. What a great place. The sushi was amazing, the service was fantastic. I had ordered the Eel, California, Philadelphia and Salmon with Scallop rolls for pick up. I went there and I had picked up and the gentlemen that was working there so wonderful. I picked up my order and left him a 15.00 tip. I will be going back there very soon.

We came here on a yelp whim when my girl friend suggested it. It was either Red Lobster or this late night around 9 or 9:30 on a weekend. We were greeted and seated. They have DIM SUM late night too! We had to try it! My friends ordered sushi, I ordered some handrolls, and sashimi pieces. For dim sum we ordered the dumpling I think it was #1. We also ordered the large congee to share, and the shrimp stuffed eggplant. It was the most amazing stuffed eggplant I've tried in my life. The textures were perfect and carmelized. The owners were very friendly and we got our fill. Sushi or Dim Sum, you can't go wrong. I haven't tried other dishes but I'm sure it'll be good. Can't wait to go here again!

I tell my friends, there's no better sushi/sashimi or maki rolls in Naperville. If you want ambiance, well...it's inside...kinda (don't mind the parking lot). Raku is not trendy. It's not overpriced. It's not famous. But, it is fresh. Usually, you'll be seated by the owner and be served a fresh, creative selection of rolls and sushi ,and feel good about your choices once the bill arrives. Clean bathrooms. Clean dining room and bar. New? Ask about the chef's specialties. For starters, try the spicy miso soup or the Udon. Never a bad experience. We simply love these folks. So ambiance gets 3-stars (geez, they need a patio). Fresh fish, 5-stars. Creativity is typical with flashes of brilliance, a 3.5. Friendly service and consistency, easily 5. Overall = 4.5. We eat here once or twice a month, and have brought out-of-towners here without embarrassment. p.s. the one-star review...huh?

  • Heather J.

My boyfriend and I eat here all the time. The sushi is excellent and we absolutely love the dim sum menu. Beware if you have food allergies though - I asked if any of the dishes I was ordering contained shrimp and they said no. Mid-bite they stopped me and said that that it did; fortunately I was fine. A mistake like that can kill though. I suggest to the restaurant staff that they do a better job listing the ingredients of their dishes.

Ahhhh Im so behind on my review! I was here Oct 25, 2013... so yeah soooo behind! Driving around Naperville, for dinner and we couldnt fine anything so I went to my Handy Dandy... CELLPHONE! and yelp =D First of, yelp sent me to some country club... umm negative! so I drove around Ogden finding this place smh, omg it was right by H MART!! ahah! Anywho, yelp gave this place 4 stars... and I was hoping it would be because I was getting hangry!! (hungry angry).... and it was better than 4 stars! I'm giving this place 5 stars because the sushi taste and smelt fresh. It was smooth, and sweet, the sushi rice was okay, but the quality of fish was just right. OH! I can't forget about the Sweet Shrimp... om nom nom nom... The shrimp head was fried just right, and the sweetness of the ama ebi with a little bit of masago on it was excellent! My gf for the tonkatsu, her go to dish, and it was nice is crispy as it should be. once again the rice was okay. Serve was great, maybe because we were 1 of the 2 groups of people there and they were about to close at 10. Pricing there was fair and great for what you get. Def, going back there when I'm in town again... which most likely will happen since I always stay at the Hyatt in Lisle

Frankly, I am befuddled by the poor reviews for Raku. I have been a regular at Raku ever since it opened. The owners are wonderful people who are very welcoming to their customers. People who know about sushi know that the owners take their food very seriously, and purchase the best quality fish. I have been eating sushi for many years, and I can attest that THIS IS THE BEST SUSHI FOR MANY MILES AROUND. People who only eat California rolls might be disappointed, since honestly the ambiance is nothing fancy and there is no hibachi chef. The dimsum menu is also extensive, with extremely reasonable prices.

Yay, very good, authentic, freshly made Dim sum in the western suburbs! DH and I tried this place because a friend said they had really good dim sum. We're big dim sum fans, but the time and expense to drive and park in Chinatown has made it a very infrequent experience in recent years. Now, we can enjoy excellent Dim sum just about whenever we want! The restaurant offers dim sum whenever it is open, even in the evenings. We only learned about them this past winter but have already eaten there multiple times ourselves (we really like dim sum!) and also with friends. They have thoroughly enjoyed the dim sum, too. Check rakusushi.com for the dim sum menu. It's a solid selection and easy for anyone to order as the menu has a small photograph of each item with a descriptive English name based on ingredients (most of the items.) The husband/wife owners and wait staff are very personable. The owners have made the time to know us, and we have learned about their family run restaurant, too, over our multiple visits. They recognized us on our second visit, but DH and I also purposely only go at not-busy times. Even on our first visit for a weekend brunch, I called ahead to find the earliest time with little wait, but still with a good dim sum selection. Tasty dim sum restaurants in Chinatown are usually jammed at lunchtime on weekends and may run out of dim sum for that day as items are typically pre-rolled and maybe even pre-cooked -- NOT the case at Raku Sushi. While they are often very busy during weekend lunch hours, many/most items are FRESHLY HAND MADE to order, then cooked to order. We made our first and only weekend visit into a very late lunch/early dinner as they were so busy when we called. As most items are hand rolled to order and then cooked to order, be prepared for a slightly longer wait for your dim sum than in other restaurants, even when they are not busy. Today, I went with a friend and ordered different 10 items as I wanted a variety for her to try and leftovers for DH. All items arrived within 15-25 minutes after ordering, piping hot, and delicious -- some of the best dim sum I have ever had.

Service is very good and the lunch specials are awesome. I found the food very good! Love the edamame. Also the vegetarian combo is very good. This salad was ok. I only order the vegetable rolls with soy paper but my friend says the seafood rolls are incredible here!

I've gone here for lunch specials for the past couple of months. Last Friday, I had the 14.95 sushi special. I lost my appetite when I smelled the sushi. It wasn't fresh. I won't come back.

Don't let the outside fool you. The inside is nice and comfortable. When we have a taste for sushi this is where we like to go. The owners are very nice and they believe in quality. Have taken several of my friends and they have loved it. Shrimped stuffed jalapeno is my hubbys favorite. My kids love the potstickers and noodle dishes. They eat the sushi too! Their rolls are great and they are not skimpy on the fish. Firecracker roll & Mexican are favorites. This is the first place I ever liked seaweed salad! We have eaten here several times over the years.

Recent reviews about service being so slow and sushi quality being poor surprised me. My family and I have been going to this restaurant since 2011 and have had no experience about slow service or poor-quality sushi. We've become restaurant regulars and friends with the owners and they already know what we want to order as soon as we walk in. So, here's my side of the story: + Friendly & efficient service + Chinese & Japanese cuisine available + Fresh & delicious sushi. Our family favorites are: shrimp crunch roll, lion dance roll, volcano roll, and fire dragon roll. + Lunch Specials and Bento Boxes are available (Prices range from $9.95 to $12.95. Big bang for your buck!) + Their fruit shakes, made up of REAL FRUIT, are delicious! You may add tapioca for extra charge. Our family favorites are the avocado and mango shakes. + They recently introduced DIM SUM SPECIALS (small/bite size plates; the Chinese version of tapas plates for those not familiar). Prices range from $3.95 to $6.95. We are looking forward to trying that. + They also cater. + Very clean bathrooms. + Very clean dining area + Nice ambiance. Some Yelpers are correct. This is a more quiet restaurant (which I prefer) so loud talkers may want to use their indoor voice while dining here. Who wants to listen to other people's conversations when having lunch/dinner anyway? Chinese or Japanese instrumental songs play in the background. No annoying K-pop, J-pop, or American Top 40 Hits here. It is nice to have a calm, relaxed, and quiet environment while eating. The world is too full of noise and distractions already. It's nice to escape it and have a nice conversation with friends/family at Raku Sushi once in a while. In addition, I am not bothered by the Christmas lights inside at all. I think it adds to the ambiance. + Ample parking Nothing negative to say. So, come try Raku Sushi! For the negative reviewers: I hope you give it one more try. Your negative experience may have been a fluke. If it sucks the second time around, then, fine: everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. I will always be a big fan of Raku Sushi.

Our inlaws told us about Raku having fresh dim sum every day. We were skeptical but they said it was all made fresh and really good. We went there today for lunch. It was a bit odd -- a dual personality restaurant with both the sushi menu and the dim sum menu with even a choice of chinese tea or japanese tea. But it was really really great dim sum. It was so fresh. We have eaten dim sum in every one of the good dim sum restaurants in Chicago's chinatown and we used to live in San Jose, CA and ate dim sum at some huge famous dim sum resturants there. Trust me, this is BETTER than any of those. If you like dim sum please try it out. You will be so happy you did. The service was great too. However, remember that your dim sum order is being freshly made, it isn't all frozen things being steamed like I suspect a lot of the dim sum in chinatown is done. So be prepared to wait a few minutes after your order. It is worth the wait.

My fiancé is Cantonese so we decided to try the dim sum instead of driving to the city. We tend to go to Chinatown and will continue to do so. The fried Taro tasted more like a bean burrito...blah! The beef crepes.. meh. Needless to say, she was not impressed. We switched gears and tried the sushi. Nothing seemed really fresh. Whole Foods sushi sitting in the case tastes better and seems more fresh. Besides the the food being below average, the service was slow and the place was dirty. To toe things off, when I payed they charged my card for another table and it took quite some time to get it corrected. I don't see what all the hype is for this place and why it's rated on par with establishments that are far superior. Could it be that it was somewhat cheap which some people correspond with good? We will stick with Chinatown for dim sum and Chef Soon for sushi while in the western burbs.

Went here based on the reviews on Yelp and as usual mg fellow yelpers did kit disappoint. We had the fire dragon roll the Mexican roll and a spicy tuna roll. They were all really good. The prices were very reasonable and the waitress was attentive and very helpful. Give it a try if you are in the neighborhood. you won't be disappointed

I was very impressed with this restaurant. They give very generous portions at reasonable prices, and were relatively fast considering I was in a group of 8. I will definitely be going back!

Great sushi spot in Naperville! After a long morning of shopping at the outlets in Aurora, we searched Yelp for a nearby sushi restaurant and we were led to Raku! Our server was super friendly and recommended one of their special rolls and it was amazing-the plate came out with flames! The Spicy Tuna and Mexican rolls were also very good and the house salad with ginger dressing comes in a very generous portion size! If we're in the area again, we'll definitely return to Raku!

Sushi was good... Service was very sloooooooowwwwww. We went on a Sat night, only 2 servers on the floor. It was a good hour before we got our food :/ Prices were very reasonably priced. Would go back hoping for faster service :)

Disclaimer: 3 stars is good for me... I always get the sashimi lunch special... trying the different rolls each time, veggie and hamachi guacamole were good. First time I tried the ramen - not so much... and that salad at lunch is kinda silly Smoothie is good - I think Joy Yee's is better

I promised my wife sushi for her birthday. Instead, I surprised her with a houseful of family members, great Filipino and Chinese food, and some excellent ice cream cake. The next morning, she flips over to tell me: "You still owe me sushi!". What an addict. That's the start of why we made our way to Raku Sushi. 1st off, pricing on their sushi/sashimi is quite reasonable. All orders are for TWO pieces of sushi, so perfect for a date, and far better priced than most sushi joints. On my personal experience of quality scale, it is squarely a medium, to mid-high level quality of fish. Ordered up our standards: Tamago - Slightly sweet egg, super tender. Good start. Sake - Nice fat lines, breaks with each bite perfectly without stringiness, no fishiness, and light flavor. Unagi - Meaty with just a little bit of crisp on the side. Just how we like it. Ama Ebi - The meat wasn't as sweet as I hoped, and the deep fried head wasn't as seasoned as I would like... but it was tasty nonetheless, and a very reasonable price at $8 for two pieces. We didn't try any special rolls, so I can't comment to those. Looked interesting, so we may be back to try again. Did the standard spicy tuna roll and shrimp tempura roll, both were good, but pretty standard priced. Note: It was very slow, but the sushi chefs placed our order on a beautiful boat to be eaten from! Don't know if this is common for them, but excellent presentation! Figured we wanted a big more food to balance out the menu, so we noticed that a few customers had received a separate Chinese food menu. I requested that menu and ordered up some string beans with pork and fried anchovies. (That's one dish). String beans were perfectly crisp and cooked, and the dish was an excellent way to round out the meal. Verdict: Very friendly service, sushi/sashimi is super affordable, the rolls are standard priced, and a regular priced Chinese menu to round out the meal. A good standard place to get a bite of sushi. We're fans, and we'll be back.

Although the owners are fantastic people, the food is pretty awful and the fish that they use for their sushi, is potentially dangerous to eat in my opinion - seemed frozen then defrosted then refrigerated at a less than proper temp. I came on a weekend and the place was EMPTY. My initial reaction was to turn and run but I made the mistake of trusting Yelp reviews on this place. Big mistake. To make a long story short, the fish was so far from fresh, that it's almost criminal what they're serving at Raku. Please close shop before you kill someone; it's that bad.

  • J U.

I've only had the lunch specials but they are fantastic. You get sushi and a soup and salad with yummy ginger dressing. Don't be scared when you pull into an empty parking lot and it's next to a rundown-ish motel. I know I was skeptical. But a little sushi birdie told me it would be alright. The inside is comfortable and their food is good along with the service Good sushi for a reasonable price. I haven't been there for a while since I moved out of Naperville but last time I went I paid like $10-11 with tax and left satisfied. The downside for many ppl might be that the rolls are a slight bit thinner than other places. I find it is easier to eat a whole piece in one bite and have it not be a choking hazard lol. And you still get a decent amount.

This was my first sushi resturant and experience in general. It was a quiet cozy resturant and everyone was very friendly. Food came out fast and was very good. I definitly reccomend it and the spicy tuna was AMAZING!

We dined here on a pretty busy Saturday night. Service, and the speed of the sushi chefs, slowed significantly as the restaurant filled up. However, we still had a very good meal. We tried four different rolls, and all were very good. Ingredients were high quality. The sashimi was on the small side, however, the flavor and texture was excellent. Prices are reasonable, and quantities are sufficient, but not amazing. Overall, this is a very good place to get high quality sushi. I am a fan of Raku Sushi.

No Natto and no Uni (never available as not enough customer demand), says enough. Nice waitress, good service, non-Japanese chef and personnel. Typical American style nigiri sushi with way too much rice and no wasabi. Did not try the monster rolls, but if you like them, they have them. American taste and popularity of sushi is killing good sushi slowly.

Very good sushi! Fresh and yummy. I always get a spicy tuna roll when I visit a new sushi restaurant, it's a good standard of measure IMO, and Raku's spicy tuna is delish. Not every sushi place has a good spicy mayo/sauce, but this one hit the spot. I can't wait to go back so I have another roll or two. They have a ton of great apps, but I didn't have a chance to have any. I look forward to trying those out in the near future.

My friend and I were on the hunt for a local sushi place to satisfy our sushi addiction, we have tried a few places but nothing rocked our worlds till we tried Raku. The atmosphere is pretty nice, and contemporary. The service could have been better, but that was because there was only one waitress on staff at the time we visited. It took a while to get our food but it was WELL worth the wait. By far the best california rolls and shrimp tempura I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and tasty and it wasn't too salty like I find many sushi places to be. I will definitely be back to Raku very soon.

I wasn't a huge sushi fan until I went to Raku. I've been here multiple times now and all I can say is WOW! Everything is fresh and made perfectly. Service is great and prices are right where they should be. They also have excellent udon and fried rice. Lets not forget their fresh smoothies that are only made with fruits and blended ice. Highly recommended!!

We visited Raku after reading the reviews. Our visit did not reflect the reviews. We ordered, the sushi was prepared and left sitting on the bar. The waiter was told to put it back. Why, our appetizers had not been prepared. So we waited. Eventually we asked for the sushi, it was brought and the waiter was scolded. It was explained that the appetizers weren't ready. We ordered the jalapeño bites and a salad! By now it has been about 50 min. After we ate the less than favorable sushi, our appetizers arrived and were not worth the wait. Raku was overly priced, less than satisfying and the service was very bad.

Raku Sushi is one of those restaurant that stays with you. My wife and I have our "go to" restaurant that we always go to depending on what we want, and Raku is where we go to for Sushi. Our favorite roll is Fire Dragon.

Flew home this morning and my sister took me out to lunch at Raku. I haven't had sushi in a while; the Twin Cities has a lot of sushi joints but I feel weird about eating sushi in the middle of Minnesota. Chicago-land area sushi is all right, since O'Hare international airport is close by and I assume the fish doesn't spend too much time traveling. Being housed in a former Baker's Square is not ideal. The decor is a little kitschy at times, like the half-size geisha doll and taiko drums. But I like the plastic food replicas - although they are not as high quality as I have seen in Japan, it's rare to see it in Naperville. However, you can tell they tried, so I'm not too bothered by it. The space is really big. I think they could do better by creating private rooms for parties and stuff. I thought the service was excellent. Our waiter came by a lot to refill our water, add more tea to the teapot, and ask how we were enjoying our food. He seemed genuinely interested in how we were doing. Sorry to hear that Cindy K had a bad time; did the management do anything in response to the tempura? I ordered Lunch D, which includes four pieces each of spicy tuna and California rolls, a selection of Chef's choice nigiri, and a salmon skin hand roll. The salmon skin roll was huge! It also had more salmon than salmon skin, but it was delicious. They added a lot of green onion sprouts, which counteracts the richness of the salmon. I avoided the Cali rolls, since I don't really like them. The nigiri was great; although the rice could have been packed a little tighter, the quality of the fish was superb. My sister ordered the Lunch B, which also has the spicy tuna and California rolls in addition to some tempura rolls. All lunches come with salad and miso soup. The miso soup is good, but the salad needs work. Iceberg? Green leaf does not cost that much more. Also, the dressing was a little oily and not as gingery as I like. My mom ordered the unagi udon, which she liked. There was a generous piece of broiled eel. She said that the udon noodles were still chewy and not too soft, which is what you should find in udon. I thought there could have been more noodles, though, since she finished it all. Usually my mom does not eat a lot. I was also interested in the sushi rice burger, but I really wanted sushi. It sounds like a novelty item for people who don't want fish or anything really Japanese, which is thoughtful. The lunches were super cheap. The udon and my sister's sushi set were $9 and mine was $12, since it had more sashimi in it. I think it's a good deal. I would come back here to try their dinner or something. Definitely a good lunch spot.

I would have given this place a three-star if it wasn't for the terrible experience I had. Rude rude rude owner. I left the tip cash on the table, so when paying up front with my card, I put $0.00 as a tip. The owner had the audacity to ask if I have left a tip! Who does that? I would have come again for some "okay" sushi if it wasn't for the rude owners.

Great lunch place, I recommend the lunch specials that has a total of 16 pieces, more than a serving in a sense, but good for a 200 lb guy. I am suprised that not more people have checked this place out at lunch!

Came here for lunch with some lovely people from work today. I'd been once before a few years ago and remember it being fairly average. Wasn't sure if it was going to be good or not but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. The lunch specials are a decent deal and I have to say I really liked my mushroom rolls - don't always see those places and I was glad to be able to get them as part of the veg roll lunch plate today. The only fish I tried was on the Blue Lobster roll, which was lobster salad with avocado and asparagus and tuna on top - the fish was pretty fresh and the roll itself had a decent flavor to it. Good service, though they seemed to rush us a bit to get our order when we first came in, and it seemed clean, which I appreciate. Also, we went late in the lunch hour so it was pretty empty around 1:30 - not sure if it gets more crowded earlier but it was nice to have the place to ourselves. Pretty sure I'd go back if the opportunity arose, and perhaps I'd try some other items from the menu.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night. It wasn't busy at all and the looks on the inside were like a Denny's and a Sushi restaurant had a baby. I immediately got nervous. The food and drinks more than made up for it! Yum! Everything we ordered was great. The drinks were mixed well and we cleaned our plate.. or boat in this instance. The servers were very friendly. My lesson: don't judge a sushi restaurant by its cover. I've been to some swanky sushi joints and had awful sushi *coughbluegingercough*. This place was good. We will be back!

I visited, when they first opened. That was quite some time ago. I did have to wait a very long time for my sushi and was tempted to leave. but it was brought on a gold boat. So that was impressive. The sushi was very scrumptious. I think I was just very turned off by the wait time. I haven't returned, I always wonder why. Because I have had quite a very bad sushi experiences over the years. I never seen anyone there though, It always kinda looks closed. I hope they're performance hasn't gone down hill, because It was very good sushi and I would like to return again to a good experience.

If you're looking for fancy decor and a trendy vibe, you won't find it here. However if you want solid sushi in the western suburbs give it a try. The Sashimi appetizer was fresh and diverse in flavors and the specials, while not revolutionary, were perfectly good. Props on the Volcano Roll, which features smoked salmon and a tangy mayo. Less successful was the Red Dragon special which promised much more spice than was delivered. The unagi roll was quite tasty but the real star is the shrimp shumai. Perfectly wonderful. One warning, the space formerly held a Baker's Square and it hasn't improved much in terms of atmosphere. Just enjoy the food.

We came by to try Raku for a weekday lunch. This in the old Bakers Square restaurant, which has been totally gutted and nicely renovated. The best part of lunch here is that the servings are generous. Sushi lunch "A" goes for $8 and the chicken cutlet lunch bento box is $8.50. Lunch "A" was comprised of a california, crunchy shrimp, eel, and rainbow rolls. Unfortunately, I can only give it 3 stars tops as the sushi rice was a bit hard and a little dried out and it took away from the food quality. The chicken cutlet was ordinary, and a bit salty. Lunch time service was fine. Will consider giving Raku a second chance at a later date.

I eat here all the time and just got around to writing a review. The owners are soo nice and the sushi is wonderful. I recommend the house special the fire dragon. Overall this place does not look it but has some of the best sushi around. The owners also care about their product which is good. Try it out and you will not be disappointed.

My son and I were using the Monical feature on the Yelp app, and happened upon this restaurant today for lunch. I ordered the lunch special, I think it was G (new special) & my son ordered E (the Sashimi special). Service was very fast. The Miso had good flavor and was very hot. Salads were good. The Sashimi was very fresh and in large pieces, which made my son very happy. He didn't like the fact that there was a piece of imitation crab meat. Otherwise, he really liked it. My Sushi rolls were very good. I had one of those White Dragon rolls and it was better than I expected. I normally don't like to get the tempura because of it being fried, but this was very delicate & a little sweet. My son was shocked I actually finished everything on my plate, including a piece of his Sashimi. There is a TV in the place, but you can not see it from the seating area, only the bar. And it's volume was down, so as not to be distracting. I also like the music in this restaurant, quite, no words, oriental flavor...perfect Wish we lived closer to this one....
