Oh. My. God. After eating a Firehouse sub, I don't know if I'll ever return to Subway or Jimmy John's. (Though I have never been to Jersey Mike's, so I can't compare it to that...yet.) First off, I'll say I'm really picky about my sub bread. A common problem I find with other places is that their bread either gets really stale or flaky pretty quickly (especially since I'm a slow eater, by the time I get to the end of the sandwich I usually end up picking the meat out and just leaving the rest of the bread), or it's like a french bread kinda roll that's hard to tear with your teeth. But the Firehouse bread? PERFECT! They toast it, which I usually don't prefer at other sub places, but since it's very lightly toasted I don't mind here. And then the meat is prepared in these steamer things, so it comes out nice and warm--a great treat for when it's like 35 degrees outside! The employees are all pretty friendly, they yell "WELCOME TO FIREHOUSE!" when people walk in the door which is hilarious. I love it. And they also took the time to describe their subs and menu, which I appreciated. I got the Italian sub and I don't know what it was about that one, but....wow. Just wow. I've never had an Italian that good. I know it sounds so cheesy, but just thinking about it is making my mouth water...it's too bad there's not a Firehouse closer to me :-/ Will definitely be back if I'm in the area!

i generally despise "sub" resturants. subway, quiznos, blimpy, jimmy johns, etc etc. hate em all. this place is totally AWESOME. forgetting the fact that i LOVE hot sauce, and they have like 30, its still awesome. we had 3 different sandwiches from this place now, and every one of them is just amazing. good FRESH ingredients. they DONT skimp on the meat or cheese, they treat you with GENUINE respect, and GENUINE gratitude. far too often, especially in retail or resturants, i get all the phony respect/gratitude, and it SHOWS when you're not sincere. this firehouse could teach lessons, that most retailers could learn. again, amazing food, great service. and more than reasonable prices.

Probably the best sub I've ever had. Saw an ad for this place in our homeowner's association newsletter, saw the good reviews here on Yelp, and decided to give it a try after picking up our daughter from preschool. Yes. This place rocks. We were here around 11:45 on a Friday, and the place was packed. The line snaked back from the register, through the tables, but it moved very quickly. The best part about the ordering experience is that, as soon as you are done, you get to sit down and they bring your food out to you. Also, like the Wendy's across the street, they have one of those super-fancy coke machines that dispenses something like 3,000 different varieties of Coke and Coke products. Diet Vanilla Barqs? Yes please. And for the kids, as the other reviewers noted, they have plastic fireman helmets to wear. As for the subs, I ordered the Turkey Bacon Ranch and loved it. The bread was nice and toasty but not overly crunchy, and the meat, cheese, bacon, and peppercorn ranch came together in a heap of yummy deliciousness in between. My wife got a plain old roasted turkey breast sub (she really liked it), and our daughter got the grilled cheese. My only gripe with the kid's menu is that they don't have any "healthy" options for drinks other than water. Apple juice or milk would have been nice. The closest thing to juice they have is Hi-C. No thanks. Finally, they have a huge selection of chips. Whereas Subway seems to have cut back on their selection of chips so that now you can choose between a flavor or two of baked lays or a bag of cool ranch Doritos, the selection at this place spans almost the entire length of the counter. Color me impressed. I will definitely come back here when I'm in the mood for a sub.

Best - sandwich - I - have - ever - had! Ever! I got the beef and cheddar brisket. I ordered the medium. If I had known how good it was going to be, I would have ordered the large. Absolutely amazing. I will be back.

I visited Firehouse subs for the first time this week and it is a step above similar sandwich places. I had the 12" chicken on wheat bread with Provolone, lettuce, and BBQ sauce and it was very tasty and filling. The meat was plentiful, the cheese was just right and melted perfectly, and the bbq sauce added the extra flavor that the sandwich needed. I also had a bag of chips and made a million trips to the soda fountain so that I could mix and match my soda flavors. Being able to create and try various flavors was a blast and I felt like a kid again. My mom had the 12" beef brisket sandwich which looked good as well. She really enjoyed it. The brisket was flavorful with a bit of a smokey taste and was tender. The beef wasn't at all fatty which was very nice as well. For dessert, I tried the brownie which was very dense and chocolaty, not dry at all. I think I would get it again for sure. I also tried a bite of the lemon cookie which wasn't my favorite, but was a nice change compared to the usual sugar or macadamia nut cookie offerings. The prices are a bit high when compared to similar sandwich places, but the quality and service really is better. I have a hard time spending a bit more usually and I think it's worth the investment here.

Amazed at what me and my wife seen was a employee in black shirt drop a full loaf of bread because he grabbed the wrong end of the bag of bread spilling it all on the floor. He picked it up with the other employees in red putting up a a screen so the customers couldn't see and put it back in the bag and back into a box. When asked to speak to a manager on duty the next day on Sunday Dec 4th the manager I talked to and quickly denied the incident and Hung up on me. Seriously? Was that the manager who I witness drop it? I will go to FB and Yelp and Twitter to let the word out on your Mcdowell rd. Location in Naperville.- Disgusting...Zero stars. Bob Kuhn should be disappointed as a owner.

I've only been to Firehouse once before, in Wheaton. It wasn't a very memorable experience but I thought I'd give them another chance. My normal sub from almost anywhere is the Italian, or some variation of it. Today I thought a meatball sub would be appropriate, given the damp, dreary weather and my inability to warm up. I places my order: a medium meatball sub on wheat. The cashier asked if I wanted a regular meatball sub, or sweet and spicy. Guess which one I chose. I also grabbed a bottle of water, naturally. While waiting for my food, I inspected my surroundings. It has your typical firehouse theme going on, and there's a large selection of hot sauces to top your sandwich with. For those who desire a side of diabetes, obesity, or cavaties with their meal, a Coca Cola Freestyle machine is available to satisfy your sweet tooth or spike your insulin levels. The tables looked clean, even during the lunch rush. Once my order was ready, an employee called my name. He was rather quiet and had to repeat it before I hear him, even though I was at the pick up counter. I opened the container and was pleased. The sandwich looked good- the cheese evenly melted, and a healthy dash of red pepper flakes on top of the cheese. The first bite? Holy hell, where's the firehose? This baby was spicy! And I loved it. The sweetness of the sauce was equally pleasing. I was also glad to see I received a pickle on the side. I'm glad I decided to give this place another shot. The prices are fair and the food was delicious. It's close to both work and home, so there's no doubt I may become a regular here.

This blows subway out of the water!! Having the meatball sub with sweet and hot sauce. #&*! $ my mouth is on fire but it's so good. I will be coming back more often!! The pice not bad for a sub and got the firehouse hot sauce bottle too that looks like a fire hydrant, which is really cool. And the love the fact that they give back to the community. Awesome theme and love the pix and mural and the used fire equipment all around the space. Ditch subway and come here!!!

    1. Quantity of meat was lacking esp for the premium price. (except meatball) 2. Beware Online Ordering-our special instructions did not appear on receipt & was not processed (replicated issue to verify & notified company of issue-no response) 3. Quality-taste of meat was great for the meatball & pastrami. The STEAK WAS INEDIBLE, DRY & CHEWY 4. Company does not stand behind product & would only comment that their subs are med 8" large 12", but DIDN'T ADDRESS QUALITY CONCERNS w steak or QUANTITY OF MEAT (I even provided pics that clearly identified concerns) 5. STEAK WAS INEDIBLE--had to reiterate as we had to throw out & company failed to respond *not sure if it was the staff preparing that did not provide acceptable quantity that 3 of us agreed

Haven't had any issues with the quality of the food. However, I use Grubhub for most of my delivery orders. I've had no problems with ordering in the past, $15 minimum (mo issues). On Grubhub they still have $15 minimum listed but they do phone orders only now. When you call they tell you that you have to order $40 worth of food for delivery. My work was ordering from here almost every day until that. I've contacted Grubhub and neither Firehouse or Grubhub have corrected this yet. After reading some of the other negative reviews I think I'll stay clear for now on.

I've only had their vegi sub but have had it multiple times. Each time the sub has tasted great with fresh vegetables. I am not sure what kind of sauces they use but it tastes pretty good. They are a bit on the experience side but they definitely beat subway's quality and taste. I would recommend this place if you are craving a sub or looking for something different other than Sunway or Quiznos.

Love this place. I love the meatball sub. They have a sweet/spicy sub that's great but I prefer the regular sub. The brownies are amazing. They also have the pop machine with every juice/pop you can think of.

Great hot subs, if you get the large it might get a little pricey. I keep coming back to this place because Im crazy for hot sauces especially the really hot ones. Their hot sauces are ranked 1-10+ and there's more then 30 of them. Must try if your in the area

This firehouse does not accept any coupons. Go to the Firehouse in Wheaton; much better service.

I used to love this place. The past 2 times I have ordered from there they forgot the cheddar and/or barbecue sauce on my beef and cheddar brisket, the girl who took my order looked like she hadn't showered in a few days, and they were just standing around texting. The first time they forgot the cheddar and I figured I would give it another chance but today they forgot the sauce and the cheddar. I love firehouse but I will not be returning to this location.

Not bad! The Italian is pretty delic. The place was clean and the employees friendly. I would go back. Definitely a better option than JJ's if you're looking for something relatively fast (8 - 10 mins) and warm.

Loved this place! The decor was fun and cute (the tables have dalmatian spots)! I walked in and the employees all had a smile on their face ready to help. Since I looked like I had obviously not been there before they explained what subs were some of their best and most popular. My sub was brought to my table very quickly after I ordered it. It was so good and one of the best subs I've had in a long time. There was a great portion of meat, cheeses, lettuce, and veggies on it. Normally sandwiches get the shaft on their portion of meat but I didn't see that lack here. While I was there a family with two small children came and sat near me. The kids get the cutest little plastic firemen hats as souvenirs! I will definitely be back for to try a different sub soon!

Sit down Jared/ Justin Tuck and all that think that subway is good. This place got good subs! What makes them unique is how they prepare their subs. Rather than melt, bake and nuke the subs they actually steam the meat with the cheese!!! EXCELLENT!!!! My favorite one is the Engineer - Turkey with melted swiss and mushrooms. BTW, we need more in the city!!!

I could eat the hook and ladder every day if my wallet would allow it. Not to say it's too expensive but just that I'm usually broke. The staff is always very nice, the food is always fresh and hot, and I freaking love the drink machine. One of the best sandwich options in the area and I hope one comes closer to my house and not just near my work, although the entire office loves when we order from here.

There isnt anything wrong necessarily with this place, but its just more of the same. Aside from the gimmicky names for their subs and the coke freestyle machine, there isn't much to separate their product from the rest of the pack. If you're looking for an overpriced forgettable meal, then head on down to your nearest strip mall location.

Went to the new one in shorewood. Waited 20 minutes for two sandwich's. They were ok...not worth $14. Over priced.

  • Joe H.

The sub was mediocre. I had the hero, which for the price was not very good. It was like a toasted Subway sandwich, but for more money. The space is cramped and a little confusing on ordering. It gets busy and people don't know where to stand in line. Also, they have the flavored coke machine, but it only has one dispenser. There were up to 6 people waiting at lunch to fill their drink. Not a smart choice for a busy place. The wait after ordering was about 10 mins, which can be long if you have a short lunch. Service was okay but for the price and taste I'll go somewhere else.

I'll be back, over and over. This place is right outside of my hotel, so lovely. Turkey Sub, hot. MY GOODNESS. Service was great, 3 young men all very helpful.

One of the better sandwich chains out there. The food is always nice and fresh. The drink machine is really cool (you can pick from 100's of options and really make your own drink). It is a little expensive for a sandwich, but they do have some really tasty sandwiches. The staff is always friendly and shop is always clean. I'd go back, just wish they were a little less expensive.

The subs are good and priced about the same as a jersey mikes. I like the variety of meats and sauces.

I am so excited that a Firehouse Subs opened closer to where I live. The first time I tried one of these was at their Wheaton location and I loved it. I haven't been back just because I am never in that area, but I frequent this area a lot and I know that I will find myself here again. Everyone was really friendly and they made sandwich suggestions when I couldn't decide what to order. The sandwich I had was delicious and their cherry limeade, which was one of my favorite things before was great here too. They also have one of those fancy touch-screen pop machines that you can select any combination of beverage that you could ever want.

I will never have another sandwich after I ate here! Get the brisket it's amazing! And the Gawain pulled pork yum! I'm about to gain ten pounds cause I'm addicted!

Solid and unique sub. Very tasty. Only reason I didn't give it five stars is that about a quarter of my sub was almost meatless. Im sure the kids will love the pick your drink Coke machine.

Just moved to the area and could hardly contain myself when I saw a Firehouse Subs was just up the street from where I live. This is such a nice alternative to other sandwich shops like Subway, Jimmy Johns and Potbelly. The sandwich meat is steamed and the bread is fresh! Sandwiches are warm and juicy. They also have a loyalty card in which you get a free sandwich after 10 purchases (you have to buy the combo). Last but not least, they have the best pickles! You will not be disappointed and I always make sure to take friends here who haven't tried it before.

  • Sam B.

Leave it to firemen to know what it takes to make a great sub: soft bread, fresh ingredients, and plenty of character. The sub was one of the best I've had (watch out Potbelly's) and the ambiance was just right. Oh, and you know that change between your total and the next dollar up, they make it easy to donate to a charity, only if you want to. These guys are worthy of your next craving.

  • Jen K.

We live across the street from this place, so we were REALLY excited to see Firehouse Subs coming...there's a Subway and Jimmy John's within rock-throwing distance, so it was nice to see something new coming with REAL grilled subs. But I feel like the sandwiches are overpriced, given the amount of meat you get on your sandwich. It's good, but not great. Better than Subway? Yes. Better than Jimmy John's? No. But you can't compare the two, since Jimmy John's subs are cold. Either way, I'd rather drive across town to Jersey Mike's.

  • Joy S.

Better than most sub places in the far west burbs. I was surprised it's a chain, as I'd never heard of Firehouse Subs til they started building this one at 59 & McDowell. Subs come in medium or large, most being hot subs, and available on white or wheat bread. There are 2 cold subs available, tuna and white chicken salad. I got the white chicken salad, which was really good. It came with lettuce, onion, and tomato. Their kids' combos are less than $4 and come w/ a drink, dessert, and a cute little fire hat. They have Hot Grilled Cheddar Cheese available on the kids' menu, but can also be ordered by adults for $2.79. Gotta remember to ask them to butter it next time. You shouldn't have to ask for grilled cheese to be buttered, but this was very plain and dry. My fav part of this place (besides being founded by firemen - I have firemen in my family) is their non-profit. They have the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation which provides much needed funds to fire, police, and EMS departments to assist with life-saving equipment and training their departments might not otherwise be able to afford.

Much better than subway. Friendly staff, nice decor and plenty of TVs to watch sports during lunch. Been there twice and enjoyed the Hook and Ladder sub and I can't remember the other one.

We love the Firehouse Sub place that has open near us in Naperville...it is nice to have an alternative to Subway...I like trying different sandwiches and try to have a different sandwich each time...I like to order online and go pick it up..Also like the big Coke machine with all of the different flavors.
