Tavern? No thank you. Tavern on 60, ok! Don't let the word tavern scare you away from eating here. The place is huge inside with lots of screens for watching your favorite sport team and also sports paraphernalia on the walls. Definitely not your typical tavern feel but we were here at noon. The waitress we had was fantastic! She even put up with my whining that there wasn't anything to drink if you don't want one of their many alcoholic options nor don't drink soda. In fact, she offered iced tea without sweetener to satisfy my thirst, which was perfect with my meal. She also was very thorough explaining that the food was all cooked on site made fresh. The crab cake was a little heavy on carbs, but I just didn't eat the bun that it came with. Don't know if I missed the option of ordering without that bun. The food earns the place a 4, but the customer service brings it home with a 5.

REALLY wanted to give a higher rating, but just couldn't. The food quality - a solid 3 stars - good, but nothing special The food quantity - 2 stars - burger and fries, just not many fries. My daughter, who ordered the kids chicken tenders meal, actually had more food than either of my sons who ordered burgers. The service - 2 stars for our server Value - 2 stars - I ordered a Leinie's seasonal, my wife, a Tighthead. Her specialty beer was only 25¢ more than mine, both of which were over $6. For a draft beer, especially a Leinie's, that's just too high. Atmosphere - 3 stars - I've lived in the area over 20 years, so have been in every iteration of this business since it started as a Ponderosa. It's just a large dark room with some TV's. Can't fault-it, after all, it's basically a sports bar, but don't expect much.

Went here with some friends and had a good time. The place was dead. The food was good.

Not your average tavern food! The garlic and Parmesan fries are a must while you're here! Staff is always very friendly and attentive and I have never had a bad meal here. TONS of pescetarian and vegetarian options as well, which is a major bonus. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the last time I went there, there was an AWFUL live band where the music was too loud and the singers were off key. We left as soon as they started playing ... Other than their band choices, great place for a yummy quick bite and a drink with some friends :).

Stopped in for a few beers. Kind of a dive bar, complete with pretentious D-bag hipster bartender and pumping dance music, which clashes with the decor. Most off-putting though was the drunk locals, and the young waitress taking advantage of their condition to get them to buy them shots. Shame on the bartender on letting them get fall down drunk, and Shame on the waitress's for taking advantage of Bill, the drunk local.

Just average Completely empty during lunchtime. Weird Had fish fry... With a potato pancake. Fish was good but the breading was super greasy. The potato pancake was mashed potatoes... Not grated. Payment computers weren't working so had to wait to pay. After 10 minutes just paid cash. Might try something else there. Might not.

This place rocks. The food is amazing and they treat you like family. Having celiacs disease, the owner makes sure all I ordered was safe and gluten free. I'll be returning very soon and often. I found my new hang out.

I wish I could give this place a better review but I can't. In the positive side I was quite happy with the menu. A lot of unique items and good variety. Unfortunately the execution of the menu is subpar. We order pizzas, not bad but under cooked IMO. We tried 3 different apps that all had good flavor but they weren't what they could be. The potato slices with buffalo sauce and bleu cheese have so much potential, if only they had been crispy, I'm guessing at some point they were frozen. Now on to my larger problem. The service! The waitress was nice but considering how empty the place was service was slow. One member of the group did not get their meal for at least 10 minutes after the rest of the group. Staff didn't acknowledge the problem until food was finally delivered. All the while you could see the manager sitting at a table eating a meal with some guests. This drove me crazy. I'm sure the poor service was part of a trickle down effect from management. Pry more like 2.5 stars but I'll round up.

I had a couple friends come with me to check out thier food since it reopened and its under a new owner. And I had order rigatoni because our waitress said it was a favorite at least from her part. When I tried it it didnt taste good, it had no flavor. They might need to work on the flavor. A gentleman was kind enough to cater to us and give us history of the restaurant and what not. I finally went with the townline burger.(its a meatball) It was delicious! The buffalo chippers were great as well. The guy was so attentive to my friends and I. We are definitely coming back even though it would be a drive for my friends. Everyone in the restaurant were friendly and giving great service. I recommend coming getting a burger y'all.

Great pizza and good bar service- nicest sports bar in area lots of TV's -clean restrooms(it matters!)

Food was awesome and so was the service. Tony the bartender couldn't have been nicer. Found out that this place is owned by the guy who owns Philly G's formally Gilardi's so that's a plus

Just left this place. It was not the best. All three of our food orders arrived wrong. A bacon cheeseburger without bacon or cheese, a pizza without tomato sauce, and another burger with missing toppings. The place was dead too at 9:00 on a Friday. When we told our waitress about everything being wrong she was really helpful and answered all our questions and got the manager to come over which is why I gave two stars not just one. I know it is rarely the server's fault when things go wrong in the kitchen, so I respect her efforts. I mean, they didn't put pizza sauce on my friends pizza? All in all it was just a bad experience I would not suggest going. Even though it's newly reopened, I think they have a long way to go before becoming somewhere I would suggest going back to.

I went in and sat at the bar and had the BYO pizza. I had the large with my daughter so we had plenty of leftovers to take home. Pizza was huge and really good with homemade crust. The beer selection was great with Tighthead on tap. I will be back again soon.

After going for the first time for lunch this week, I suggested Tavern on 60 for an after work meeting with a vendor. My lunch was fantastic- I had the portabella sandwich. When we went for our after work event, we ordered many appetizers. We had mozarella sticks, chips and salsa, the eggrolls, the avacado fries, and some wings. All were amazing! I definitely plan on going back!

I love the freshly prepared, unique menu items. The menu is a slightly upscale approach to bar food with a creative twist. It's so great to have a local place that's comfortable, friendly and has it's own flare. We've been three times so far and have enjoyed every item, from the burgers to the appetizers to the entrees. But the lobster grilled cheese is definitely the favorite. We'll absolutely be back over and over again.

Rainy Thursday night and stopped here. Staff and owner are delightful. Great food and beer. Locals are very friendly. Owner sat down with us and made us feel very welcome. This is a must stop on future trips to Chicago area hope they are here for many years to come

I was looking for something to eat, a cold beverage, and TVs to watch game one of the NBA Finals. Well one out of three ain't bad, is it? Let's go in order: 1)Food- $5 dollar burger night was a good start, came with plenty of fries that were ok, but I ordered it Med-rare as I like it a little pink and not dried out and of course it came...well done, even though the barkeep assured me the kitchen could handle med-rare. Too bad because it seemed like the potential for a good burger. 2)Beverage-I ordered a domestic draft and it was skunky. Either their dishwasher isn't cutting it or their beer lines need to be cleaned. I was a bartender those things need to be done. I finished with a bottle beer. 3)TVs-Fortunately the saving grace was the number of tvs. I could watch the Finals and both local teams with no problem. The service was barely passable. My food was served and then nothing, no check in to see how the food was, no check in to see if I needed anything else. Again I was in the business, NOTHING makes this place stand out, nothing. The atmosphere quiet. This place needs some personality. servers and bartenders with some personality and charisma. Do something or have something that makes me want to come back. I have yet to have that experience some talk about in their reviews about all the fun they had, or how great the food is, or how great the service is. I don't see it and I don't get it. Will I come again? Probably not. I should have gone to Fridays or Buffalo Wild Wings down the road, or stayed closer to work and eaten in Grayslake and will in the future. It's a shame. my area needs a solid bar to go to. This could be Emil's south but sadly it isn't. I just wish Emil's in Mundelein was this big so I might actually get a chance to go there once in a while. 2 stars for potential and because its in my town.

I haven't been to this location since it was called Blue 60. It doesn't seem to have changed a bit on the inside, and I suspect most of the customers are the same bunch. It seems to have its fair share of d-bags, potential drunk drivers, and soon to be addicted gamblers. The food here is surprisingly close in quality to what Blue 60 had. The $5 burger night is a winner, as our burgers were cooked perfectly medium rare. What's missing, apparently, is the underage drinking and the fights in the parking lot that were the big reasons the predecessor folded.

Jack S summed it up perfectly below. The service at this place is passable, at best. Went there at 1PM Saturday afternoon, 4 people were in the place. My friend and I sat at the bar and it was over 10 minutes before anyone came out of the kitchen area to notice patrons actually came in at lunch time. No "sorry", no "hello". This bartender/waitress couldn't have been any more blase. ZERO charisma. Asked us what we wanted to drink. Friend orders a beer, I ask if they have any rootbeer. She says she has root-beer in a bottle. Never mentions what brand. Serves me the bottle, never ask if I wanted a glass with ice. She gives me a glass with ice, but no straw. Another patron across from us orders a coke. It comes in a glass...with ice...with a straw. Amazing. The food was just as bad. The 'black and bleu' burger was not served medium. Overly cooked. It comes with bacon and I could not cut through the bacon with my serrated knife. I had to pull the bacon off the burger, and it looked too disgusting to even eat on its own. The burger was piled high with the shredded onion rings but they were cold with no real flavor. I ordered a side of the "Heineken Onion Rings". AVOID at all cost. They were disgusting. I took one bite and pulled it out of my mouth. I had my friend try it (he normally doesn't like onion rings) and I solidified his dislike with these for sure. He pulled it out of his mouth. The bartender could barely muster coming back and asking us how everything was, and only when we were ready to pay did she ask about refills or another drink. We initially, as is custom, put down 20% for a tip, but I pulled a few $$ back at the end. I'm sick of tipping wait-staff who aren't good at their jobs, with the personality of a wet-sponge. I can't imagine this place making it. I can't imagine how awful it would really be if there were more than 4 patrons in the place. Almost any burger joint closer to home would have been better. Including the arches.

Enjoyed the Mundimelt sandwich last night. My husband was pleased with how much pink his burger had.... It's difficult to find a restaurant willing to leave pink in the meat. Kids enjoyed food off the kids menu. Enough variety, but not overwhelming. Great prices. Fun atmosphere. Would definitely return!

Eh nothing that great dark n gloomy, food is mediocre. The only reason I went is my 21 year old was excited to have a beer legally. Burger was average wings were soso. Waitress was nice. No one greeted us at the door for lunch.

Always looking out for some place different for lunch and came across an article about this place changing hands and reopening. Food was good but they still have some things to smooth out. Greeted and seated promptly, by owner who is Billy according to the guys at the bar who called him over to introduce him to someone. Waitress came over almost immediately and took my drink order. Back in a few, tells me she'll give me a minutes to look over the menu. Ten to twleve minutes later, she's back, when I've been ready for about seven of those minutes. Order the tavern burger and fries. Food comes brought by the owner who says I'll get you some extra napkins because that burger can be messy. I ask for a little more ice as well. He gets the ice, never comes back with the napkins. Waitress finally checks in again about fifteen minutes later. Sure everything is fine. Get my extra napkins. Finish eating and push the plate away. About ten minutes later the owner comes and takes the plate. Wait another ten to fifteen minutes before the waitress comes back and I think it was only because another customer was seated in the booth next to me. Check please, takes another five minutes to get it. That said, the burger and fries were really good. This particular burger comes with mac n' cheese, chili and onion strings. In my opinion too much macaroni and not enough chili. There was like 2 beans and little sauce. Burger was juicy and not quite but almost cooked perfectly medium. I'll be back as there are other things on the menu I want to try. Bar tender seemed really personable and friendly.

Went there last night, early around 7:30 pm to watch the Crosstown Classic and get some dinner. Not too crowded, plenty of empty tables. We were told to seat ourselves, which we did. After about 10 minutes, I walked to the bar to get a beer as there was no waitress in my sight line. Turns out, she was there-just busy chatting up the male patrons at the bar. I asked the bartender if I could also get a menu. He was a pretty good sport asking the waitress to come over and check on us. 10 minutes more of her chatting at the bar, she came to take our order, annoyed that we were interrupting her social hour. Food was good-fresh and plentiful. Might go back-but if we do-I will sit at the bar since that's where the waitresses hang out!

Long time Mundelein resident so I know about the history of this building. Was excited when I heard about new ownership, always enjoyed Gilardis, Philly G's, and dads place Paisanos in Richmond so I was excited and looking forward to better than average food. My first visit was yesterday, met some friends and we sat at the bar. We ordered 5 different appetizers and were disappointed with all of them. The Breaded Avacados sounded unique but portion was amazingly small, served on a big plate so it really looked skimpy. The JUMBO wings were average size at best, 6 for $8.95 not worth it at all. Artichoke dip with chips not nearly enough chips and leftover dip when the chips were all gone. And lastly the Onion Rings were served cold. All in all sub par bar food, I had such higher expectations based on the reputation. Might go back just to drink, decent beer selection.

Been here a few times. Much needed in the area! Nice enough to grab a bit any night of the week. Fancy - no. Perfect - no. But a great local spot.

Haven't been in this place since it closed as Blue 60. The decor inside is the same and the food is OK but the service is slow. Wait staff OK, but the bartender was worthless. Kept screwing up our order was was slow as a snail on a cold day. Really doubt if we'll go back.

  • Lauren F.

My husband and I were so happy to see this spot come back to life! The interior is exactly the same as it was as "BLUE 60", which isn't a negative thing- I like it! Big TV's and sports memorabilia everywhere. It was like going back to our old, familiar space. However, we stood at the host podium for quite some time while a large group formed behind us. We could see open tables and even jokingly asked people sitting at the bar, "Are we supposed to seat ourselves?" So my husband decided to claim our own table, a booth near the bar. Not sure whether this was a good idea. Employee after employee walked by us. Fifteen minutes later, a waitress asked us what our drink order was. It took ten minutes to get our drinks (I just ordered a diet coke). Then it took another ten minutes to get our servers attention to get menus. While my husband and I were looking through the menu, I overheard a manager speaking with a large booth just by ours. The customer said, "We had a reservation at 6, and we still haven't gotten any food yet." I looked down at my phone. It was 7:25. I could see the server and manager then begin to apologize to numerous tables around us. I then heard the bartender apologize to an elderly patron that he should have had his "shrimp" by now. At that point my husband and I decided that this first visit back would just be for a drink because they seemed overwhelmed. We asked for our bill and left to go somewhere else for dinner. I hope they figure things out! Everyone around us was waiting for something, while the crowd at the door remained. We will try again in a month or so after they have time to settle in and work out the kinks!

This was my first time here and I have nothing to compare to. We came in by chance as the restaurant we were originally planning on visiting shut down. We were instantly greeted and sat by a hostess, at a both towards the back of the dining room. Our server, who was very nice and knowledgeable, answered all our questions and made some good suggestions. He was on top of refills and clearing the table. My only gripe about any restaurant, is taking empty glasses to refill. I always end up with 4 or 5 lime wedges in the bottom of the glass. It also makes me question how they can remember which glass is whose. Anyway, moving on. Everyone seemed to be satisfied with their food. I ordered the bowl of Chili and it was slightly salty. Nothing terrible though. While the food was nothing exceptional, the server made up for it. The worst part of the entire experience was the smell of the bathroom and the air freshener. It was quite a turn off. Sure enough after visiting the ladies room I spotted the tropical flower cone air freshener right away. It was rather potent. This is why I've taken away an additional star. Overall I'd recommend this restaurant and I'll be back myself to give it another try.

Have not been to the old place, but was still curious to try and decided to go. We had the burgers and they were excellent. Better than I expected. I ordered mine medium rare and it came out as such... not medium or medium well. My dining companion had her ordered hers medium and it was deliciously so with great char flavor. Some advice: don't get the fries. They were soggy shoestring fries. The homemade chips are a much better choice.

Yay to new owner. Been seeing bad reviews for the old 60 and hesitant to go. Now seeing a few good reviews for this new place and decided to go check it out on a Weds night. Not busy at all. Nice place, great food, great service from waitress! We had pizza and tavern burger. Both tasted great! I will be back and bring more friends on a weekend to check it out.

Sat at a table for 45 minutes before we got up to leave. This was the first time we were acknowledged by the wait staff after being seated. I think it was the manager too. Apparently, they don't need the business. Previous trips to this restaurant were at least manageable with the awkward service. I do not plan to return and will take my money elsewhere. Rude Rude Rude

I have eaten here a couple of times since my first review and have ordered carry out and I hate to say just not thrilled. We went back again this week because I thought I would be pretty safe with the burger, but it was incredibly greasy. The bun was soaked with butter. The same as when I order a turkey club, I don't want it on over buttered Texas toast but apparently that is the only way it comes. I've given up.

Been to this spot through the multiple owners and names. Good food. Lots of bar games. Tons of TVs for watching endless sports. But the sewer smell is beyond repulsive. They need to fix it or I'll never return.

Had dinner here last night. Waitress was great, food was very good, All three of us really enjoyed our food and the tv's. My daughter loves pickles and someone other than our waitress stopped by to ask how we were doing and went and got her a plate with three more on it. Very pleasant staff all around, will be back for sure when I'm in town to visit my daughter. Stopped back in on a return visit to our daughter. Service was HORRIBLE, waitress took our order then never came back to the table. Had to ask the hostess for our check and the restaurant was pretty much empty. Food was blah as well. What a total different experience. Won't ever return again.

This place is racist I went there on 10/24 and asked for a guiness and coke and jack. The guy told me there was a one drink max. Then someone else walked in and ordered a bud light and shot of jameson and were served. I asked the bar tender what was going on he said " it takes longer to make Guinness". Really!? Then he got all rude and snotty. Its the guy at the bar with glasses with the white Blackhawks jersey after this I proceeded to curse him out and take my black business elsewhere

Met friends to catch the Bears game. I wish I could give this place a better review but I can't. Flat beer. Super greasy (sweet potatoes seem to have been fried a few times over) AND salty food. Turkey burger my kid ordered tasted "sweet" I hope she doesn't get sick!

    (1)
  • Matt E.

Eh this place is just below average. If I went again I would just have drinks. Cheesesteak egg rolls looked terrible and had a piece of Kraft singles melted on top. Jalapeño poppers were raw and the bacon wrapped around them was fatty and burned in some spots and raw in others. Mundy melt was skimp on the meat and heavy on the bread. Server said they were crazy busy despite the place less than half full so that was odd.

  • Glen M.

I really wanted this place to work due to the options as a bar in this area are pretty much the same thing. I went in shortly after opening and to my surprise on a Thursday it was packed. Footballs on and the hawks and to my surprise no drink specials. Waitress said they're new and still working out specials. That's a negative in my book. You figure that out prior to opening the doors. Although the food was good this palace is trying to be something that won't last. If the prices dropped a little this place will be a hit. I will try this place again soon and that will be my big review since it did just open

Owner is Phil Gilardi from Philly G's in Vernon Hills - always there and checking in on you. We love it here - we usually go for a dinner on the weekend or to watch whatever game is "the game". Great burgers, great homemade "chips" (really fries), great Italian Beef, great salads - never had anything bad. Would rather go here to watch "the game" over BWW!!

Under new ownership!!! Tavern on 60 is a great local place to watch the game and grab a beer. Their menu is amazing. Phil Gilardi from Philly G's in Lincolnshire has taken over the kitchen and amazing us with all his new menu items. The pizza is great and I had the lobster Mac and cheese which was amazing. Nice beer list. Signature cocktails. Clean and fun atmosphere.

Caught the Bears (getting obliterated by the Rams) here on a Sunday. Was surprised that the place wasn't more crowded. Under new ownership, bad reputation in the past. They really need to crank up the advertising to get the word out so that they stick around. Was there for the game, and there are plenty of big TV's around as well as small 19" widescreen panels in some of the booths (nice touch). Lot of beer to choose from, and the wait staff was attentive. Fair amount of gluten-free options including hamburger buns and a couple of the deserts. Had the bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers as an appetizer, the turkey club with fries for an entree and a cheesecake/pastry roll thing for desert. Everything was homemade, fresh and tasted good. I would pass on the cheesecake rollup thing, but a taste of the gluten free cheesecake my wife ordered sold me on that for next time. Mellow crowd, overall a good experience. Hope they do well, and we'll defintely be going back.

Why not a 5 star rating? The food is fresh, excellent quality, and from scratch. You hardly find such quality in a gourmet restaurant. The chef definitely knows what he is doing and he is not cutting corners. The atmosphere and setting beautiful and great for a tavern and sport bar. So far this has been one of the best sport bars I have been too. Even the staff are proud to work here.

I stopped by this restaurant on a Wednesday evening at about 7 o'clock and sat at the bar. I ordered a margarita on the rocks with salt and a wedge salad. About 15 minutes later I heard the bartender asked the waitress to make a wedge salad. I should've been eating the wedge salad at that point not just waiting to get it ordered. This is the second time I've tried the restaurant since it reopened and it is the last time I'll go there. I wish it was better because there's not a lot of great options in the area. I would anticipate that it will not last, just like the previous tries this building.

I love this place! My dad and I go on Thursday nights for the $5 burgers, but we stay for the service and people. Dave, the manager, shows so much passion for the business and truly cares that his customers are satisfied in all aspects of their visit. He takes time to check each table personally and he and I have created a rather fun relationship. If you like fun atmospheres, good food and good times, this is the place to go!

This tavern is something you might find in the city. Place is clean, food is very good and the wait staff though sometimes a little slow is always being backed up by the owner who is so amazing that we have made this one of our regular hangouts. Giving the tavern 5 stars but should get 6-7 stars based on ownership.

For what I went to Tavern on 60 for, I could not be more complementary. We went for an inexpensive lunch and the service was everything you could ask for. Smiling, Pleasant and Happy. Ordered the Chicken sandwich with the Chips. One of the best tasting mushroom chicken sandwiches I have had with a generous sized chicken breast. Thanks for serving a great lunch!
