Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

If I could choose where my last meal would be, it would be here! I love simple Mexican food and this is just that. Three taco dinner for under $8. Sure I wish they didn't use styrofoam cups but I'm willing to overlook that for the deliciousness of their food! Will absolutely be coming back to this diamond!

The waiters are pretty friendly, nothing sketchy. There is a Mexican ice cream shop next door. You come in and you see mexican TV playing and mexican music, severs are mexican and menu is in spanish but has english written underneath in small print. I ordered the dinner burrito and it was supposed to come with a side of beans and rice, but they only gave me my burrito, and I had to ask if it was supposed to come with the bean and rice. they apologized and brought out the bean and rice. But it was all dry and the bean was not good. My burrito was also pretty medicore, I'd say 4/10. They do give you chips and salsa when you sit down, but their chips and salsa are not very good. Overall, I guess ok. Let me know when you find a legit mexican place out in the NW burbs.

Decided to run out of the office to grab lunch, havent had Mexican in awhile so I thought I'd go that route. I wanted to go somewhere other than Tacos El Norte... and I later regretted that decision. Monica's seemed to have positive reviews so I figured it was a safe bet. I was wrong. Maybe I came on a bad day? Maybe the empty restaurant should have been my clue to turn around. But I wanted steak tacos and so in I went. I ordered the Steak Taco Dinner. My tacos were disappointing to put it nicely. They were bland, the steak was mostly fat and grissle, and what meat was there - was so dried out I couldn't eat it. I asked to have avocado put on my tacos, thinking it would be the standard fresh slices of avocado - and instead I got this bland avocado puree smeared all over. (Note: It was not guacamole, it was just mashed avocado.) Aside from the fresh cilantro and warm tortillas... they were horrible. I ended up throwing them away after trying to eat the first one. There was no flavor, no anything positive that I can write about. The rice and beans were standard Mexican fare and I have no complaints there. My rice wasn't crunchy, my beans didn't taste dry or stale... It was really just my tacos that were not edible. Would I come back here? No. Would I recommend this place? Nope. There are TONS of other Mexican restaurants in the area, choose one of those.

If you are looking for a casual and truly Authentic Mexican restaurant in the Mundelein area, this is the place to go! The servers are very nice, some just may struggle as they may not be billingual. A group of us go during our lunches quite a few times a month, we prefer them over all the other Mex. food in the area. I have had their steak tacos, steak quesadillas, chicken fajitas, and chicken enchiladas and all had a great taste, especially anything with chicken. They also offer catering and are affordable.

I'm sorry, Monica, but you've been replaced.. The past few times I've come here, the food hasn't been as good. They also keep getting my order wrong. All I want is a burrito with carne asada, rice and pico de gallo. Is that too much to ask for?

Really good chicken burrito. Fast friendly service. Reasonable price. Simple strip mall location. Nice

Disappointed! Not the best service. So I looked up the hours and it clearly stated 10pm is the closing time. I arrive with my family of 5 at 845pm and I'm confused with the fact that the chairs are on the tables! They are sweeping and mopping. Before we walk in I ask what time they close and they confirmed 10pm. After the waitress gave us attitude about us not finding a large table (party of 5) like I said the chairs were on table and only available tables were for party of 4. She directs us to a table and takes the chairs down again with attitude and frustration. She brings over chips and salsa in my opinion not the best. She rushes us to order. Brings back drinks with attitude never smiling. The food wasn't bad. It's a taco place didn't think it was too much of a deal to arrive a little over an hour before closing. So in my opinion I suggest to take it to go since they have very poor service!

Monica's is a casual restaurant in a strip mall on route 45 in Mundelein. It looks small from the outside but it is actually pretty large inside. The decor is nothing fancy but it is roomy and clean with tables that easily sit 6-8 people. They have a fairly large menu, and all the food items i have tried have been authentic and very good. It has actually become one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. My personal favorite is the chicken flautas. The service is good and you get complimentary chips and salsa. Try the agua fresca to drink, which is pretty good (I had the tamirindo)

I've been here twice. Both times we enjoyed our meal. The chips and salsa are great. Instead of corn tortilla chips, they fry flour tortillas. So good! Would like to try their breakfast.

Another pretty common Mexican restaurant in my area. I cannot crap on this place because I found the food pretty good, but it is the same food I've had at over a dozen places. It didn't distinguished itself in any way , good or bad. I ordered the Burrito dinner, and I can say I liked the burrito itself. It was done well and very good. The rice and beans were both a solid good. I did order the guacamole, and was apalled that it was way overloaded with onions. It was almost inedible for me, but that is simply a matter of preference with me, so I can't bash them too hard. I would stop here again for a burrito, but would skip the Guac. The menu here had a decent selection of dishes you would commonly find at a typical Mexican place. I don't know that I will ever feel the need to go specifically to this place, but it can fill the basic need for Mexican food.

The homemade quesadillas are to die for they make the tortillas themselves. Other than that, the menu is the same as their prospect heights location.

Been eating at Monica's for as long as I can remember. Our family is personal friends with the owner who is awesome. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu but the best item is the chilaquiles! Go hungry and order those for breakfast and you'll be coming back for more!
