Diner bliss, it doesn't make much to make me smile when I go out to eat. Fresh food, served hot with good service and a smile and I'm all in. At Mauri's Cafe in Mundelein this will happen. No this does not have the atmosphere of Egg Harbor, nor are you going to get Hollandaise Sauce on your eggs, but if you looking for Eggs Over, Hash browns and Bacon, with toast or Pancakes this is the place. My favorite breakfast at Maur's is: Mauri's Bowl - What a great combination of Goodness, Corn beef Hash, Mushrooms, Pepper, Hash browns, Sausage, Cheese and Eggs Over on top, Pancakes on the side. Wow this baby is enough for two. I've eating here now about 12 times over the last year. Bacon is always crisp, sausage is always brown, hash browns are golden. Pumpkin Pancakes and waffles are a specialty. Their cook can do no wrong and could train most hotel chefs on how bacon and eggs should be cooked. It's not five stars but if your looking for a great breakfast, at a great price, go here.

Given the great reviews about Mauri's, we decided to go out of our way and try it. We felt that the food is way overrated. Wife got an egg white omelette with mushroom and cheese and I had a Mexican skillet. The meals came with pancakes on the side. Wife got regular and I got the pumpkin. The omelette was pretty mediocre- flat and just looked and tasted like an omelette we could make at home. The skillet had a lot of potatoes and chorizo but lacked in flavor. The pancakes were great, especially the pumpkin pancakes. Service is friendly but as states in other reviews, this place is tiny and people stand by the door waiting to be seated. Overall, standard breakfast food but not above average by any means.

Love this place. A hole in the wall that offers a great breakfast at a great price. Seating is very limited, which is why I didn't want to write the review as more people may find my morning hole in the wall and have me stand and wait.

I have been here a few times within the last year and have never been disappointed. I love breakfast skillets so that has been a consistently delicious and beyond filling and good price. I've also had the chicken fried steak and eggs and it also delicious and I'm always left feeling I've had my fill with a better value than the local franchise options. I've also had lunch here which was yummy too but they are only open until 2pm so I wish they did dinner. I've also taken my mom here who has had bacon eggs and pancakes an was not disappointed as her eggs were done as requested... I can't afford to eat out real often but this is always a consideration; especially for breakfast. I agree it feels and looks more like the old small town diner. And they take care of you like it too! Not sure I can say enough good things as this day in age finding good food, good service, and a good price in one place is rare. Mmmm I just had biscuits and gravy. Yummmmmmmmmm

I hate to do this, but you have to try this place. this gem is just getting too popular. My family and I have been eating here two or three times a month for the past two years. Suddenly, all of Mundelein has discovered our breakfast place. There is now usually a wait, but it is worth every second. As all the other posts mention here the portions are huge, the waitstaff and owner are beyond friendly. This is a throwback type of place. People of all types, ethnicities and flavor sitting together, united by food

Great place. Huge portions and high quality food. Very friendly staff. Good alternative to Omega.

Small restaurant in downtown Mundelein.... Friendly staff and Homer makes everyone feel welcome.... Only open for breakfast and lunch (7am-2pm) the food is fantastic and plentiful! A great find.....

Everytime we go eat here, the food is delicious!! The owner goes around asking everyone how their food was and the waitresses are very nice! But the FOOD is soooo good!! If you haven't gone to at least try it you NEED to go!!! It's honestly my favorite place to go for breakfast! Especially during the week when it's not crazy busy like on Sundays. Plus they recently expanded it, before there was only about 10 tables now they have at least 20. All in all the food is amazing, they don't charge you an arm and leg to eat there and the staff is friendly!!

Just THE BEST LITTLE neighborhood place around. Love the lottery game that allows you to win a free meal. Pumpkin pancakes are the best. Fabulous value for your dollar where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch & a fresh cup of coffee. Limited seating means you may have a brief wait for a table but I promise it will be well worth it! Ohh I nearly forgot they also offer a discount for seniors & students. How can you go wrong??? If your looking for eggs benedict try The Caboose Restaurant up the street. Another little gem in town for breakfast.

I am torn as far as what to say...we went to Mauri's because of the yelp reviews and we fell in love..the food is excellent and the pumpkin pancakes are to die for...it is very small so expect to wait...but...the last time we were there a child was behind me bouncing and screaming...for a long long time... finally after sitting with my ears covered for over 10 minutes...my boyfriend threw down his fork, not something he ever does and said let's go. We stood up and I looked at her and she started mouthing off to me..I said that she should have taken her child outside if he/she could not calm down, I was a mother of 3 also....etc....I was about ready to leave when she kept speaking to me in her broken English and the owner looked at me and said..please stop. To ME!!!!!!!!! I was horrified and realized that I was not a member of the same tribe they all were and therefore the outcast. I guess they stick with \their own regardless of the situation. I was really disappointed cause we really liked the food. but ...Cmon!

Q&D: Small dining area, quick service, friendly, good prices, decent food About once a month I head out for breakfast with my father. While we have two standard locations (Full Moon and Mauri's) we do work in others on occasion. The dining area in small - six booths, and a couple small tables. The prices are very reasonable, and the service is friendly and quick. Out of the dozen times that I have visited, I have had to wait perhaps once. I usually order the Mauri Combo - which contains two eggs, two bacon, two sausage, hash browns, one pancake, one french toast ($6.99) - with the french toast and pancakes usually heading home for the wife (if she is not with us). The pancakes are fluffy, and eggs cooked perfectly to my request. The downer is the bacon and sausage, while good, I think in order to save time - it is cooked ahead of time and kept in the oven. The coffee ($1.45 - free refills) is also to my liking, not too bold. My father orders off the senior menu - two eggs, three bacon, three sausage, toast ($3.99). He is somewhat picky when it comes to eating out, so for him to enjoy this place, that to me says a lot. The hours are 7am to 2pm everyday - I have never tried any of their lunch items.

Best breakfast place around hands down. Portions are huge and fresh. Service is great and fast. Prices are inexpensive. Can't say enough good things :)

Color me conflicted. On the one hand I hesitate to tell others about this gem for fear the masses will make it impossible for me to get into the door (an inevitability once you try this place). Yet I want this place to receive the business and praise that it deserves so it will stay open (for my belly's sake). This place is tiny and hidden away, as most great food finds tend to be. When I say small I'm guesstimating that it could seat 20-25 people max. No flashy signs picturing cups of coffee or "grandma", no flashy lights. If you weren't looking for this place you'd probably never notice it was there. I sure didn't the seven hudred times I passed by. But don't let its small space and modest decor deter you. This place is the thing of food dreams. I've only had the breakfast, but I have no doubts that their lunch options are just as tasty. The food was fresh, the portions generous (read: "caveman serving"), , prices were a steal, and the service quick and friendly. When it comes to breakfast my personal rating factor is always a simply stack of pancakes with a meat side (usually sausage). In my opinion plain pancakes are the simple yet complex; anyone can make them, but few can perfect them. I killed 2 birds with one stone by ordering the Pigs in a Blanket. These pancakes were definitely in my top 3 of the best I've ever had. Not only were the cakes light and fluffy, while still maintaining a buttery flavor, they were stuffed with 2... count them TWO... sausage links each, each full of that salty porky goodness incased in a snappy casing. Yum! I highly recommend you check this place out. Just do me a favor... leave some room for me.

We love this little diner!!! We eat there about once a week or so since we live nearby ~ it has fabulous food! The owner and his staff are all wonderful. It is a small place so expect to wait especially if you go there on a Sunday morning, but it is well worth the wait...and of course you can't beat the prices!

Mauri's cafe tkaes lyou back to the 'Mayberry' days. A small friendly, old faslhioned cafe in a small town. Ample portions and a great price, very good food. It is a place where you could go to have breakfast or lunch alone or with firends and feel equally comfortable. I have been there for breakfast and lunch and was very pleased. For a caslual, off the beaten path experience I would rrecommend it .

All I can say is it's a great restaurant and an amazing value. I was a little afraid that when they expanded that the service would not be as good, but I was pleasantly surprised. Every dish has something awesome to it. Pancakes, chorizo eggs, biscuits and gravy, French fries are all very good.

Love their biscuits and gravy combo. This is the best secret in town. You'd drive right past if you weren't a local! The food and service is good, plus you get a lot for your money. Omelette comes with a side of fruit or hash browns AND you get pancakes or toast, too for $6.99

    (5)
  • Justin F.

Compared to the other breakfast spot in town last, Elly's, Mauri's food isn't up to par. Omelette was okay but the pumpkin pancakes tasted like they were from a box. Hope quality goes up, room for improvement.

Found a hair in my omelette... First time ordering from here. Heard good things. I ordered carry out the mauri omelette and Hawaiian omelette. Got pumpkin pancakes which were good. I'm not sure if they wear hairnets in the kitchen bit disappointed for that to happen to me the first time ordering.

The place itself looks like an old dining room. Reminds me of an old mom and pops place. The staff was courteous and polite. I hate when people are overbearing and over check the table too often, but they were just right. The food itself was perfect. The chili was spicy and the sausage was seasoned well, I wanted to dump it on my Mexican skillet. The skillet was a huge portion, and my extended gut is the cause to that. The dish had great flavor and whenever I see fresh jalepenos I always know I'm in for a treat. The lady got the Mexican omelet with small cakes, which were the size of a plate. Overall great experience, although avoid the window seats unless you like to sweat haha. Other then that the booths are where it's at.

Average food , large menu. Needs help in cleanliness and FOH. BIG portions, FLAVOR LACKING , decent coffee. Pretty reasonable. Probably won't be back. There menu is very extensive. Looks great. I don't think they season the food. I guess lack of salt is good for my blood pressure.

I was up near Mundelein today so I met my sister for lunch as she works up in Libertyville. What we found was Mauri's Famous Cafe? The dining area is as stated a cafe style. Now this restaurant is rated 4.5 stars with a single $ sign. I'm not sure why as the food I had was average. In fairness to the restaurant they have a huge selection and maybe what my sister and I selected wasn't that spectacular. The prices are reasonable and you get a nice portion size of food. I ordered The Mexican Skillet w/homemade chorizo, onions, peppers, Jalapeños, tomatoes & cheddar cheese. I had 2 eggs over easy on top. This was pretty good and I give it a 4 star rating. My sister ordered the Philly chicken sandwich w/mushrooms, peppers & mozzarella cheese. This was very average and nothing special. It did come with a choice of fries or fruit (she selected the fruit) & a cup of chili that was pretty good. The service wasn't very good as the food was brought to the table without any utensils. (I gave up caveman eating a few years ago). We wanted a refill on our coffee and again there was no wait staff until we flagged them down. They never checked in at the table to see if we needed anything. Based on this visit I would rate this restaurant only 3 stars

Thanks to my yelp friends I found this place. Very small place but that don't bother me. The prices our a good deal and the portions also. The girls were very nice and they work as a team. I really liked that my omelette was not greasy. They also have some good specials. Will be back for sure :)

  • Meg F.

A long drive for us but it was worth it. The food was pretty good - especially the pancakes. The place was crowded but we didn't have to wait long at all. The servers worked as a team and were all very friendly. My only complaint is that the silverware was very cheap. The knife couldn't even cut through the pancakes. Petty I know but true.

Wow food was awesome I am from out of town and needed to find a breakfast place. Turned to yelp drove by several other places on the way and sure glad we did. They pack you in this place but worth it, wish I could move this place to are town.

If this was a restaurant in my neighborhood I would probably be here about once a week. The menu is varied and interesting and has some of my favorite foods. As it stands I come here approximately once or twice a year because it is very close to my doctor's office. I order the Mexican omelet each time and it is perfect and delicious each time. The only reason for four instead of five stars is because they definitely make you feel like you are not a "regular" when you go in if that's the case. Don't care that much myself but for those who do there's that to consider.

Went by early on a Sunday morning for a family breakfast. Called ahead and glad we did. Would have had a 20 minute wait. There was a wait/line out the door the entire time we were there. My son had the Arabian French toast which was very delicious (see pic). Superbly prepared French toast splashed with peaches and strawberries. Only complaint was that it made it just a bit sweeter than desired. My daughter had the regular French toast which was equally delicious. My wife had the 2x2 special with eggs and pumpkin pancakes. The pumpkin pancakes were out of this world. I had a bacon and cheese omelet which was slightly dry (overcooked?) but otherwise good (pic below). I had a side of hash browns which were crispy on the outside but mushy on the inside...not my favorite way to eat hash browns. I, too, had the pumpkin pancakes. Did I mention they were out of this world delicious? Service was phenomenal! Even more impressive considering the restaurant was filled to capacity with a line out the door. Most of the dishes were delicious. The service made up for any issues.

Here are 6 reasons why this place is overrated, at least according to Yelp: 1. The front entrance of the store is nothing special, people standing outside smoking. Usually if the entrance of the store is lackluster, the interior make up for it, not the case at this place. 2. I ordered the gravy biscuit. OH MY LORD, I am very certain this dish is the trigger for my migraine. It was soooo salty. I could feel my head spasming, 30 min after my meal I had a migraine. The biscuit was also VERY dry. I personally would like the consistency of my gravy a bit less clunky. 3. I also had the cancun crepes. Totally not what I expected. If you want french crepes, they do not offer that here. The crepes here are burrito style. Black berries were stuffed instead of the crepe. And honestly, they call it blackberries, but I've had fresh blackberries before and I am pretty sure they do not look and taste like cherries. In fact, on my recipe I saw that they typed in 1 order of short pancakes with 1 order of cherries...strange. The description of the cancun crepes CLEARLY says blackberries and sour cream. I thought it would be thin french crepes with blackberries on top and whip sour cream. Instead I got BURNT crepes, with overload of cherries inside and the cherries were not fresh, overdosed in syrup. Drizzled with sour crepe sauce that looks like icing squeeze from kellogg frozen waffles. 4. My friend ordered the hash brown and she said it had no taste. I guess they don't salt your hash brown here. 5. The girl who took our order and seated us were kind of short with us, not necessarily the friendliest. 6. When it came time to checkout, they messed up my check. Charged me $5 more than my order. Then my waitress told the register what to punch in the system and it was fixed. Pros: 1. Fancy cash register machine that looked like a product Apple would invent but it is not by Apple. In fact on my receipt it had a link on there for you to view your an electronic version online. 2. Fairly clean and decent bathrooms for a not so clean nor attractive interior and exterior of the restaurant. Overall, I have been meaning to try this place for a while now. I brought a out of town visitor there today and was disappointed.

The price is good and the food is exceptional. Haven't had their lunch hey, but if you're in the Chicago area and want breakfast, this is the place to go. Six flags Maurice breakfast combo lol

I am always on the hunt of a good diner type place for breakfast, not the "wait for 1 hour and maybe we will be seating" you next to screaming kids and warm coffee and high prices. Mauri's was GREAT. If you drive down Hawley too fast you will miss it, but it is worth the turn around. The place was clean, service was excellent and friendly and the coffee was hot and plentiful. I had the 2x2 special and it was more than enough with eggs cooked perfectly (over medium) crisp bacon and 2 melt in your mouth pancakes. Next time I am getting the pumpkin pancakes (if they are half as good as the regular I will be thrilled). We ordered a skillet, an order of corned beef hash (this was the only possible flaw as it was a tad dry) and Mauri's famous omlette with jalapeno peppers and chorizo and lots of cheese came with hash browns and a side of fruit. Their prices are good, service super friendly (as were the happy customers sitting next to us) and my tummy was very happy when I left!

I can't express my love for this place through words..it's too difficult. Mike and I wanted a cheap breakfast, so we stopped in here. Boy were we surprised with what we got...it was definitely reasonably priced and the portions are unbelievable! I've had the mexican omelette both times, and Mike has had a couple of different things, but both times we've been here, we've left so miserably full...which is what you want from breakfast I suppose :) The staff is really nice, very quick and just a really nice spot to stop in for a nice bite to eat. We'll definitely be back...and hopefully soon!!

WARNING: THE REVIEW YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ INCLUDES DESCRIPTIONS OF FLUFFY BUTTERMILK PANCAKES, CRISPY HASH BROWNS, AND SPICY CHORIZO. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO LEARN ABOUT A MUNDELEIN GEM, THEN PLEASE CLOSE YOUR BROWSER. With that said, Ashley and I woke up Sunday morning with our usual breakfast hunger pains. I was all set to saunter into the kitchen to make scrambled eggs and toast, but Ashley asked if I wanted to go out for breakfast. I am very glad she did! I had heard about Mauri's a few times and even drove by it saying to myself "we should go there sometime." We threw around the usual options: Wildberry, Egg Harbor, Grille on Laurel, but then I remembered Mauri's. Ashley was as excited as I was to venture out to Mundelein to give the cute, small restaurant a shot. That my friends, is where cute and small end. The breakfasts that we were served were ENORMOUS!!! I ordered the Mexican Skillet with wheat toast, and Ashley had the Mexican omelet with pancakes. If you have been keeping up with my reviews, you would know that I am a large eater. I usually finish other peoples plates and still have room for dessert. This breakfast not only left me stuffed from breakfast, but I couldn't eat lunch either. The price for each of our dishes was $6.99, waaaaaay cheaper than any other breakfast place in Lake County. Our food was delivered to our table about 4 minutes after we ordered. It was absolutely delicious. The pancakes are better (in my opinion) than anything you can get at Walker Brothers or Wildberry or any other breakfast place. Did I mention we didn't wait one second for our table? Not like those other places where it's at least 30mins until you sit down. Mauri's exceeded our high expectations (thanks Yelpers for your reviews!). We will definitely be back, as we have decided this is our new breakfast spot. Keep up the great work Mauri's!!!

Move over Elly's, Mundelein's best breakfast restaurant isn't in some big, gaudy looking building nor is it situated on a prime spot of real estate where everyone can see it. Nope, Mundelein's top breakfast spot is sitting in a quaint little strip of shops on a small suburban road across from a dry cleaner and locksmith. Welcome to Mauri's, a nice little hole-in-the-wall breakfast diner that really knows how to do breakfast. Look up the phrase "you cannot judge a book by its cover," and you'll find a picture of this restaurant right next to the definition. As many people have mentioned, this place is an absolute gem. To be precise, it is more akin to a diamond in the rough. Sure, it might not stand out in terms of appearance, but the service and quality of the food is out of this world. Let's dial this back about three years ago, to when I first began this breakfast love affair I'm currently in. Three years back, the 'rents discovered this little diner sitting in a small strip of shops. It was small, incredibly so, only occupying one small lot of the retail space in the strip they're a part of. One weekend when I was home from college, they brought me here to try the food out on a Sunday morning. Needless to say, I was immediately hooked and have been coming back on an almost weekly basis ever since. The steaks are cooked to perfection. The omelettes are golden. Eggs superb. Crispy-ness of the bacon is spot on. And the skillets, oh dear Lord those skillets, are to abso-freaking-lutely die for. And the best part? Everything is well-priced. Average cost per person is usually under $10, despite the HUGE portions they serve. Now that's bang for your buck. Since I've started coming here, they've already expanded once after buying out the shop next door, doubling their capacity, so there's plenty of room for large groups. But even though the load has increased, the quality of service has not faltered a smidgen. Their servers and cooks are all wonderful people and they truly enjoy making sure that you are having a great meal to start your day. And would you believe that they're already planning another expansion? I talk regularly with the owners (awesome people, by the way), and they tell me they've already bought the other shop next door, and are just waiting for a good time to start the renovation. And the spot next to that? It's also on sale now. Only time will tell just how much a monster this place is going to grow into. Phew, that was a doozy. We've made it this far in the review. If you've managed to make it to this point, you've probably pulled an all-nighter reading this and are hungry as can be. Let's give ourselves a pat on the back for this wonderful achievement and treat ourselves to a nice breakfast. But where can we find a nice, homely little place with amazing food and excellent service for a great price? *looks up* Oh. That's right.

Mauri's Famous Cafe! Wow!!! I went out to check out a bakery near by, and saw this was rated well on yelp and only a couple minutes away. I must say this is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had... just wow!!! Location & Ambiance: Its located in Mundelein, and parking can be a hassle due to its busy location. With this in mind the ambiance is great! It has that old school mom & pop diner feel to to. Definitely worth visiting based on the ambiance! IMPORTANT INFO: I went on a Sunday, and they were very busy! So either go early or be prepared to wait. Food: WOW! We were impressed with the dishes we ordered, and the prices were extremely low for such high quality food! All over their page here on Yelp you see the Pumpkin Pancakes mentioned. DEFINITELY try them if your a pumpkin fan like myself. As far as main courses we tried: the Hawaiian Skillet, and Mauri's Famous Skillet. Both were surprisingly fantastic! Service & Staff: The service was average, and the staff was nice. Like I mentioned earlier, they are extremely busy so be prepared to wait a little bit. This being said, they were able to keep my glass full of water and the food was served perfectly. Overall, Mauri's Famous Cafe was a fantastic experience! If your looking to grab a great breakfast, and you have a little bit of time definitely put this on your list of places to try! It definitely deserves a 5 of 5 rating!

Went here twice last month with my boyfriend and was quite impressed! The space is small and sometimes there is a small wait but it is definitely worth it! The first time I visited I got a basic eggs meal but our second time back I tried Huevos Mexicana and it was amazing, the salsa that was included was spicy. I was blown away, the jalapeños and salsa make it a spicer dish but I loved it. My boyfriend ordered Bote de Basura and it was huge. The amount of food you get for the price is legit. We definitely will be returning!

  • Caroline D.

You really get your bang for your buck. Food and coffee is really good and service is quick. Staff is also super nice. Not a lot of seating and they're usually busy during breakfast and sometimes a waiting line but carry-out is efficient. If you're looking for a hearty breakfast, eat here. (Their "huevos a la mexicana" is good, if you like spicy.)

Finding decent independent divey diners like this in the suburbs of Chicago is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Heading here on a Saturday morning to meet up with a burbanite buddy we certainly found our needle. Maybe only 20 tables in the whole place with wood paneling and a portrait of Jesus on the wall and an ambivalent (almost hipster) welcome from the staff, we knew we were in for a decent experience. I settled upon the hawaiian omelet as getting pineapple in a my eggs only happened once before at Elly's Old Town location and I was sold on the combination. Mauri's take on the omelet is so different in texture and taste I think it bests bests Elly's. PLENTY of ham, pineapple and mozz cheese in perfect balance with the egg mixture. I took heed of other yelpers tips and settled on the pumpkin pancakes as my side which were absolutely amazing... what place offers pumpkin pancakes year ROUND?? They were considered 'small' by Mauri's standards for a side dish, but my mine they were as large as a human's face. Mauri's thanks for doing what you do best, Mundeleiners you have a real winner here!

  • Kim B.

I was really looking forward to trying Mauri's for breakfast based on the stellar Yelp reviews. Sometimes you just want a "home cooked" breakfast and I think that's what they strive for here. I tried "Mauri's skillet" with corned beef hash, onions, peppers, and mushrooms. The skillet came with hash browns and 2 small pancakes..all for only $6.99. The price is definitely right but the food was only okay. I'm pretty sure I could have made a better skillet myself at home. I was hoping the pumpkin pancakes would make up for the rest of the meal but they were way too limp.

  • Brett H.

I've hoped for years that there would be a good breakfast place in Mundelein. Elly's is okay and Omega is horrible. I've driven past Mauri's multiple times and judging a book by its covered thought it wouldn't be any good either. About 2 months ago I made the decision to try it and I'm so glad that I did! I've finally found a good breakfast place in town! I've been there at least four times in the last two months. I've tried the biscuits and gravy, chilaquiles, regular pancakes, Mauri's skillet and Mauri's omelet. Everything I've tried has been really good and the prices were very reasonable. This last visit I had Mauri's skillet and it was enough food that I was able to eat the leftovers for lunch that day AND breakfast again the next morning. Don't judge the place by the exterior or even by the interior decorating. It's dated but the food is oh so good!

  • Vanessa C.

I come here most weekends and love it. The huevos rancheros, of which I have become something of a connoisseur, are so stinkin' good! Admittedly I haven't tried them with the ham that they usually serve it with. I always sub chorizo for the ham. Another favorite is the French toast. Seriously, I don't know what's in it, but it's delicious and not overly sweet which can sometimes happen with French toast. The seating arrangements are a little wonky but I think that adds to the experience and gives the place some character. And I'm all for a small, independent business with character!

  • Ashley V.

Decent food, but not as amazing as I was expecting, based on the other reviews. Palatable coffee, and they're bottomless cups (to the point of becoming annoying, actually- someone offers more coffee practically every minute!). Waiter was MIA when it was time for the check. Once we flagged him down, he couldn't manage to split it between 2 credit cards, and actually temporarily LOST one of the cards. When that was cleared up, we discovered that he didn't split the check evenly, as requested. Tables are cheek-to-jowl, and parking is at a premium. I'm not in any big rush to go back.

Yum! Finally what I consider a real breakfast joint. I would give 5 stars if it were not for the strange parking issues going on. (Creepy neighbors lurking around calling tow trucks...awkward!) Fast and friendly service and great food at a reasonable price BINGO! I got a skillet because of a yelp recommendation and I can't wait to go back for another! It was piping hot, fresh, and delicious. Rather large portion size if you ask me. The decor is just old diner but that's what I have been searching for. The place was busy so obviously the locals have already figured out they have a hidden gem! Go get some breakfast! Skip crappy expensive Ellys.

WHY AM I HEARING ABOUT THIS PLACE NOW? Picture yourself in a small Midwestern town with a population of about 200 people and that everyone knows each other. That is what this place reminds you of. The Atmosphere: The moment that you walk in you are taken back to the simple days when there were no other choices than to go to the neighborhood diner for breakfast. It seamed as though everyone knew each other by their first name. After a few moments we partook in a conversation with a regular that was seated right behind us. He was teasing Homer and telling us the best days to come here. The place isn't the biggest as they have six booths and four tables but that's what makes it cozy and cool. The décor is very basic and unassuming. They don't have extravagant decorations or things on the walls like some places do. They don't need to do this because that is what they are, a small town diner. The Food: As you take a seat you are greeted by Rose or Homer with a pot of coffee. They hand you a menu that has some basic choices. As you peruse the menu that is when you look around and notice the huge portions of food. They have huge pancakes, three egg omelets, gigantor skillets and much more. The portions are very large so make sure that when you come here you are ready to indulge. I went with an Italian skillet and Texas toast which was excellent. I could only eat half of it so I took the rest home for later. The Bottom Line: I shouldn't be telling people about this place because I want to keep it a secret. The cost of the food is very reasonable and well worth it. This is now one of my favorite breakfast places. I am planning on being the DUKE of Mauri's Famous Café.

Great breakfast place! The food is served in a very reasonable time and the price is very reasonable! Highly recommended for anyone in the area! Seating and parking are a little tight but they make up for it in every aspect.

Someone told my husband & I to check out this place (for breakfast). In summary, We found a hidden gem. When you walk in, you feel you are in a small town diner. We were greeted by their friendly staff (Rose & Homer). Their menu includes breakfast & lunch items, & reasonably priced. But I still had to try the food to complete my review. My pancakes were huge & delicious. I also ordered a side of Corned beef hash & it was yummy. As you are eating, you can tell that Mauri's has a lot of regulars that come by. And now, I know why. This place is a great place to eat at. Note: There is parking space on the street (but we parked in the lot across the street). Because the restaurant space is small, it does fill up quickly at busy times. But that should not deter anyone from checking out Mauri's.

Been coming here since it opened and am never disappointed. The food is exceptional and the prices are great. And even though the prices are decent they do not lack quality in the ingredients or quantity of food. The place is always clean and neat. We come here almost once a week and will keep coming back. Best breakfast place in Mundelein - Libertyville or Lake Zurich!!!

Great food, friendly staff, lots of variety. I really liked their posted sign that stated the wait staff worked as a team, which they did! The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 is because the bacon was disappointing

Loved it! Food is amaaaaazing. Reasonable prices for reasonable portions of food. Highly recommend the crepes , delicious. The chilaquiles they got nice spicy kick to them , that i could even handle and i dislike spicy food. This is my new breakfast location. This location includes a great breakfast and two very helpful waitress . Always smiling and very pretty. I believe their names were nadea and ally. The owner must be very proud.

Came here based on the reviews and it was well worth it! They have horchata!!! Had the chilaquiles with skirt steak..amazing! The green sauce was pleasantly spicy and paired well with over easy eggs and the steak. Very good food and pleasant staff, will be coming back!

I love Mauri's. Service is always prompt and incredibly friendly. Coffee is only palatable, but the food is spectacular. They have a good mix of standard diner breakfast food and Mexican specialties. Everything I have tried has been awesome. In particular, the huevos rancheros are out of this world. It's truly a next-level huevos rancheros. The biscuits and gravy are also highly excellent. Oh, and everything is dirt cheap.

I wanted to like this place judging by the reviews. It's a good place and I will probably go again as I live in the area. The menu was varied and interesting. I had Homar's omelette and it was disappointingly overcooked where it had the yucky overcooked egg smell and tasted just as bad. The cheese and hot sauce helped to deaden the bad taste. The hashbrowns looked great and were cooked to perfection on the top, but mushy underneath, making for lousy taste and mouth feel. I liked the pumpkin pancakes, the coffee was decent but not great, plus it had the typical diner cheap tinny crappy silverware. There is no double door entrance, so if you sit near the door you will get blasted with cold or hot air every few moments. It had a nice menu, fair prices, and good portions. Some minor changes and better execution would make this better. I left the restaurant around 8:30 am on a Saturday and there were still tables available.

Good breakfast restaurants are hard to come by in the Mundelein area. While I've heard good thing about Mauri's, I've never been enticed enough by its exterior to venture inside. That all changed about six weeks ago when I finally decided to give Mauri's a try. Let's just say that I've been back three times already! The food is inexpensive, well-portioned &, most importantly, delicious! Mauri's skillet has been my favorite. However, the country French toast, biscuits & gravy & chilaquiles are fantastic! They serve lunch items as well, but I haven't gotten that far yet. This is certainly not the place for ambiance. It's an out-dated, diner-style interior. However, the staff are friendly & readily available & service is quick. When it comes to breakfast in Mundelein, Mauri's should be your first choice!

If you're looking for the diner feel then this is the place to go. All the servers are super friendly and the service is FAST! talk about a deal too. Only $15 for 2 people..I'm use to paying double for breakfast. My boyfriend ordered the mauri's omelette and I ordered the western. The cheese in these omelets is nicely melted adding a super great flavor. Another plus is the menu offers a wide selection to choose from. Omelettes, skillets, pancakes, waffles..everything. Wake up in the morning and head to this place you won't regret it!

Great Portions, LOW PRICE. Never feel rushed a great place to enjoy coffee and talk, the skillets are huge.

Love this place. The exterior is non-descript; the interior is cheesy. If you are looking for a fancy atmosphere, go elsewhere. If you are looking for a solid and tasty breakfast, go to Maurys. If you walk away from here unsatisfied, its nobody fault but your own.

Great place! Perfect diner food. The staff is super friendly and your coffee is never empty. The quantity matches the quality, so you will never leave hungry or wishing you'd gone someplace else. Parking nearby can be tricky and it fills up fast on weekends, so get there early.

Great value. Food is very good, especially if you are into pumpkin pancakes. Service is good. Owner is a very friendly, hard working guy. This is the best place in town for breakfast and we have been customers for a couple of years. Since the expansion, the place is twice as big, more roomy and you don't have to wait for a table. Highly recommended.

Mauri's is the place to go when you are craving some down home, make-you-want-to-take-a-nap, comfort food. When I heard they were expanding I got a little worried...that can be the kiss of death for some restaurants. Not Mauri's. Every time I've eaten there, it's packed. It makes me so happy to see a locally owned place succeed! The only downside to the success is that there is no place to wait for a table. It's kind of cramped and awkward. The hash browns are delightfully crispy, the pumpkin pancakes delicious. The skillets are my favorite, and they don't skimp on the add-ins. I always end up taking about half of it home. I usually get breakfast there, but I have also had a patty melt and I love it. Mauri's is a diner, and doesn't try to be something else. It's crowded, the food is unhealthy, and they need more parking. But none of that gets in the way of giving them 5 emphatic stars!

Nice atmosphere, very home town feel. Friendly people working, but some funny looks from locals suggested that tourists aren't very common. Boy were they busy! We were a little confused what to do when we got there, no sign about seating yourself or waiting, but also no greeter. The food was awesome though! Spicy breakfast tortillas for me, my husband had a turkey club and our daughter stuck with chicken nuggets and fries. Food (5) Atmosphere - (mom and pop) - (5) Service - (3.5) I know they were busy, but we obviously didn't know what to do and no one offered to help us even after we hovered around the door for a bit. We also could've used refills on our drinks. Overall score 4.5 - I would definitely come back here again!

My husband and I went here for Saturday brunch based on all the yelp reviews. Being from the city we had our fair share of brunch at the classic chicago places: yolk, waffles, wild berry, etc. None of those compare the Mauri's. My husband calls me the hash brown queen because I cannot turn down a plates of hash browns, I could probably eat 4-5 servings of hash browns and still want more... It's that's serious. Mauri's Wisconsin skillet had so many deliciously cooked hash towns I couldn't finish! I didn't think it was possible, but they did it, they beat hash brown queen. The skillet was the best I've had: Caramelized onions, loads of perfectly crisped hash browns, topped with cheese and eggs and served with pancakes. To die for. Go to Mauri's, get the skillet, you will not be disappointed!

The restaurant is local and they recently expanded their location. Mauri's is busy, the service is slow, and it is hard to find parking. The food is diner good and they give you a huge orange juice if you order one. This is a good breakfast place for Mundelein.

The Maurie's omelette is so delicious that I can get my teenage Son out of his bed at 7am on a Saturday... if I tell him that I am going to Maurie's!

It was all right - I think Wildberry and Elly's are the best places to eat for breakfast. However, their pancakes was very yummy!! Omelette was so-so. I'm impressed that this place was very busy and crowded. Guess other people do like the food here.

I love little neighborhood joints. If you look at my reviews, you'll see we have tried quite a few in the area. I was looking forward to trying Mauri's, given the stellar reviews on Yelp for this place. My overall impression was meh. It was pretty crowded for a Saturday - there are probably about 20 tables in the place and a very small area inside to wait. When we were finally seated, we were in booth #1, right under the drink machine. It was loud and blew hot air on us throughout the meal. Also, the laminate cover on the table was buckling - we had to work around it to level drinks and dishes. Definitely recommend you ask for a different table if you are seated there. We all had the special plates: pancakes, waffles, or French toast with eggs and meat. The cost is really good - only about $6 for a waffle, 2 sausage links and 2 eggs. However, the food was not special. While that sounds like an overwhelming amount of food, the waffle was small enough to fit on the same plate as the rest of the food. All of us ate our eggs and then moved on to pancakes/waffles, as who wants syrup in their eggs? Everything was just a little off. Iced tea was instant. Coffee was bitter. The waffle had a funny taste to it. The waitress never checked back on us until after the meal was complete (and my daughter really wanted a glass of water since her coffee was too bitter to drink). Given the mediocre food and the indifferent service, I don't understand the rave reviews. The Liberty is better. Townee Square is better. Taste of Paris is better. While we appreciated the new experience, we're not going to be one of the regulars here.

Delicious. I always get the huevos la Mexicana. The salsa is hot but worth it. The pancakes are also a winner. They are very fluffy. The only negative, it can get crowded and it is small but worth the wait. Definitely recommend this place.

Excellent small diner with exceptional waitstaff. My family of 5 came for brunch. My younger children had chicken nuggets and fries. The rest of us ordered breakfast skillets and french toast meals. Amazing! Was clean and efficient.

My new favorite breakfast place! This has been a hidden gem. The food is really good, prices reasonable, service outsanding. You can tell that they love what they do, and they love their customers. What a great find.

We love ordering Mauri's from work for breakfast. I cannot even stomach the fast food breakfast around here, and Eli's is absolutely terrible, which is how we discovered this place. The owner does such a great job in there too. He's always been very nice and he even made me something that isn't on the menu yet! Multiple times! But now that his menu is online, I can pick lots of other dishes without making him do that for me constantly. While I agree with one of the other reviews that wants to keep this place a secret, everyone looking for breakfast in Mundelein should know of this place! I gotta go now, my Mauri's is here!
