This place is supposedly rated the best ice cream in Chicago and I can see why! The ice cream here is so good! Very creamy and flavorful. There are a ton of flavors, and they are very generous with their serving sizes and prices. The location is in a cute little house in a little park. It is really nice to explore the gardens in the park while enjoying the ice cream. I recommend the chocolate peanut butter. Delicious! The waffle cones are really good too (and they even have chocolate ones!) Plus, the logo is super cute! :)

Super creamy, thick ice cream. A good selection with mostly traditional flavors (chicken & waffles being the outlier). I've tried their flight ($4.75) and large sundae ($4.99 for 2 scoops + 2 toppings). Flavors tried: praline pecan, java chip, mediterranean sea salt caramel, lemon/black raspberry sorbet, malted butter fudge, pistachio, chicken & waffles. Enjoyed all, pistachio being the weakest link (Ben & Jerry's pistachio is my go-to). Service good/meh depending on who you get.
(4)Moab E.
Great ic cream, some unique flavors and they let you try. I chose the flight option - thanks yelp reviewers for letting me know this was an option. I Had the chocolate peanut butter crunch - big yum!!! - malted butter fudge - delish - salted caramel - tasted like butterscotch - and black raspberry chip - which was good too. Tried the coconut chip - yummy! Hubs had mint chip, rocky road - filled with nuts and marshmallows, pralines & creme, and chicken & waffles - he liked all but first two listed were his favs. My son had cake batter which was incredible. I don't think there is a bad flavor Quintessential ice cream shop in a house with a park next door. I have lived in area for 7 years and just discovered cant wait to go back
(5)Shahzad A.
The ice cream is rich and creamy with great flavors. My second favorite after Oberwise ice cream!
(5)Francis F.
I came here because I saw it featured on Chicago's best so many times... It was my first time here and I instantly fell in love with the ice cream and friendly staff! They have quite a selection of flavors so I kept tasting each one. I eventually chose flight, which gives you 4 mini scoops of any flavor! I went with their 2 most popular flavors- black raspberry chip, double chocolate peanut butter crunch, and also got mint chocolate and bumble berry(strawberry, blueberry, raspberry pie)! Love the ambience of the place which even has an outdoor patio and garden!
(5)Bina P.
This place is worth the hype and the money! We ordered a sundae with black raspberry chip, malted butter fudge & java chip with hot fudge, caramel and banana with assorted nuts and a cherry on top! There were so many unique flavors to choose from and the young staff was happy to give samples to indecisive newcomers (like us) as we finalized our delectable selections! They had indoor and outdoor seating! This place is cute as a cottage, has friendly staff with great product at a reasonable price...what's not to love! We'll definitely be back!
(4)Amy W.
The. Best. Ice. Cream. They have the best ice cream. If you are looking for the best ice cream, come here. The quality of the ingredients shines. The flavors are wonderful. Olive oil? Hopalicious IPA? Limoncello? Habanero chocolate that burns with a slow heat? These are among the rotators, so don't count on them being there all the time. But they have many traditional flavors to knock your socks off--like rocky road and butter pecan. The sundaes are made with luscious sauces. You can take home the caramel. And I have. I have. There are a few seats indoors. But the outdoor seating here shines--there are benches in a lovely park. The store is a vibrant community member, with movie nights, concerts, contests, etc. A great addition to our community. May they stay open forever and prosper!!!! (This would be my only 6 star review, but it won't take it ?!?)
(5)Asma Q.
Best ice cream that I've had in Illinois! I went with the family and we got our own scoop flavors. We got the chocolate peanut butter crunch, cake batter, chocolate, strawberry, olive., and cherry Bordeaux. I got to try everybody's flavors and my favorite was cake batter and chocolate crunch! They were all amazing! So creamy and not to sweet! They also sell ice cream cookies and ice cream cakes here! Definitely recommend this place to everyone and will be back soon!
(5)Mitchell B.
Visited yesterday. ... the staff was very polite and helpful and we loved the ice cream! Very nice park next to the store, plenty of outside seating. Black Raspberry Chip is rich creamy and satisfying. We will be back.
(5)Maria A.
OMG. Frango mint ice cream...and double chocolate peanut butter. I was in HEAVEN. I really don't need to say more because this place definitely lives up to their other reviews.
(4)Anita V.
Ummm....amazing. That's all I have to say. Okay I have more: we stood in line for about 10 mins and it moves pretty quickly. They've made the area around the shoppe so pleasant that it's actually nice to be waiting. Once you get into the shoppe, you can try any flavor. The staff are very supportive if you are confused about what to get and they kindly help you to keep the line moving. I got the coconut flavor in a chocolate dipped cone and it was absolutely perfect. Not too sugary and just enough coconut flavor that you aren't sick of it after the 5th bite. My sister got the Hopalicious and Habanero chocolate and she really enjoyed those as well. With all of the flavors, my assessment is the same--They truly excel in the art and science of ice cream. The flavors are delicately placed. The ice cream is not meant to overpower your taste buds but truly delight. I would definitely recommend that anyone coming to this area over the summer should try before they leave. It's a must!
(5)Annie W.
So, so, so cute! What a nice little space that I never knew existed!! Very cute little shop, with really unique flavors and a great staff. Loved it, can't wait to return.
(5)Melissa A.
Capannari is the best ice cream in the burbs! It's so thick and creamy that a kiddie scoop is plenty of ice cream for me. I've been here twice and if it were closer to me I would definitely be here more often. I had a scoop of the coconut chip the other day and let me tell you it was amazing, strong but not overly strong coconut flavor with a generous amount of chocolate chunks. If you want good quality ice cream, stop by here for a scoop...or two!
(4)Benjamin L.
When i'm in the area which is rare I stop here, good service, good ice cream. I enjoy the dipped bananas good item.
(4)Joe P.
Great ice cream is made here! A local ice cream shop that does it right. The store is a little small, but that gives it a homey feel. They have all kinds of different flavors and you're bound to find one that you'll like. I really like their java chip and if you're a coffee fan I'd definitely recommend it. This is a great date night stop, family stop, or solo stop. There is a small park (and I mean small) located right next door which is nice to stroll through while eating your ice cream treasure. A go to place if you're looking for a delicious dessert.
(5)Jawad M.
How ice cream should be! Java Chip! Sea Salt Caramel, Oreo cookies n cream and mango. Amazing service!
(5)Linda L.
We loved this place! The ice cream is a bit pricey, but definitely worth the occasional treat. I had a one scoop sundae of the java with hot fudge and my friend had a scoop each of raspberry chip and plain chocolate chip. Both very rich, tasty, not overly sweet. I would recommend this for a special treat day. Not much seating inside, but quite a few benches within the area around the store.
(4)Ryan H.
This is a cool little ice cream Joint. They have a ton of different unique flavors with something that will satisfy everyone. The staff here is friendly and patient and if you want to try something they give out free samples. Even on busy days they seem to be super speedy and you really never have to wait to long. Everything was really good. Their ice cream was super creamy and good. No complaints there. Definitely give them a try if you are in the mood for something sweet.
(5)MoMo K.
Great ice cream with outstanding service!! They make the ice team on the second floor. Come here during nice weather so you can sit outside and eat. they have a very nice garden area with plenty of space. Just avoid sunset time so you don't have to deal with Mosquitos. They barely have seating inside, maybe like 8 chairs total. This place can get packed at times! Parking is really easy when it's not busy. Overall place is great.
(5)Maureen B.
Large selection of affordable sweet treats. I always get the single scoop of mocha bean. It's perfect for a small treat, but won't blow your eating plan for the day. They also have a smaller kiddie scoop too, if you really just wanna small taste. Kids working in there are quick, friendly and polite. Long lines for the yumminess go quick. There's a walkway of little gardens with bench seating behind the shop. There's also seating on their deck and inside.
(5)Lew B.
Always delicious ice cream with interesting options. Tonight it was chocolate hazelnut ganache. Just awesome. Others had mint chocolate chip and rocky road. Two classics that are as good as any anywhere.
(5)Noe S.
This place is great. The quality is indescribable and the flavors mind blowing. I recently went in and got a dipped waffle cone with Rocky Road and vanilla. By far the best ice cream I've had. The service was quick and friendly. I asked for a few samples before I made my final choices. The line was out the door but everyone working was efficient and quick. Try it you won't regret it.
(5)Safa K.
Great staff. Although they are mostly teens you can really tell they have been well trained. Their ice cream is so addictive. Such high quality, well-made stuff. Can't get enough of this place!
(5)Sabrina H.
It was so nice to try an ice cream place that's not generic. They have outdoor seating which was perfect for a summer night. The ice cream itself is heavy and rich so save your appetite before coming here! I'm excited to go back to try their made on the spot ice cream sandwiches. The area is a little out of the loop, but Capanarri is definitely worth the drive!
(4)Kellie M.
Great ice cream! I've had Capannari's ice cream at 2 events in my building now and all the flavors are amazing - especially the Raspberry Chip. I can understand why it's their best seller. It's wonderful! Also, Ken, the owner, is unbelievably helpful and knowledgeable. He was instrumental in helping us arrange our event for 2200 people in the lobby of the building along with several other vendors. Everyone should try to get some of this ice cream somehow - it is wonderful!
(5)Suzanne O.
So creamy, so delicious! This is seriously the most creamy ice cream I've ever had! It was such a struggle choosing one flavor for my cup because I loved everything I tried! Luckily I was with 2 other people so we all shared. I'm a big coconut lover, so the coconut ice cream with chocolate chunks was a big winner in my book. So good in fact, that I got a pint to take home! The chocolate peanut butter was also amazing. I'm a big Ben and Jerrys fan and their choclate peanut butter swirl is one of my favorite flavors, but I must admit that Capannari has Ben and Jerrys beat! You seriously can't go wrong with any flavor here! The hours do change in the fall to just Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and they eventually close for the season when the ice cream runs out, so double check they're open if it's not peak season.
(5)Nichole C.
I'm going to make this one simple: ICE. CREAM. FLIGHTS. Seriously. I can't make decisions so this was the best thing that could ever happen to me. I was able to try four different baby scoops to see what I liked best. Okay, so even narrowing it down to four was tough, but it was certainly better than trying to pick only one. My partner thanks you. Besides having flights and making my life easier, the ice cream is really good too. Pure, homemade, unadulterated goodness. Not that crap frozen yogurt or soft serve everyone keeps trying to talk me into liking. NOPE. Not going to happen. Give me real ice cream or give me nothing. If I have to put a million toppings on it to make it taste less like air, it's not worth it. Period. Point is: this place is worth it. You want to go to here.
(5)Tony B.
Worth the money. Deserves the hype. Delicious creamy, homemade ice cream. I drive the extra few miles for this place when I have time. There's a cute park next door. Great for dessert after a first date or a summer night with your kids.
(5)Hersh A.
My first time here and I loved it. Wow, what an excellent tasting ice cream?! Easily some of the best ice cream anywhere. They have several delicious and exquisite flavors. Not only they have standard flavors like Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Chocolate Chip but also signature rotating flavors like Coconut Curry, Lavender Honey, Strawberry Margarita, Blueberry Peach Pie, Green Tea and many more. I had Coconut Mango and Pistachio. Both were good. The Coconut Mango was the best. The ice cream wasn't too sweet, was rich, thick, creamy and smooth. And it didn't feel heavy after eating it. Just the way I like it. The ice cream is busy due to popularity and is family friendly. It's located in a nice area, near Mt. Prospect Metra station. A highly recommended place to check out. Can't wait to go back again.
(4)Stefanie B.
Wow is this place popping! The lines were out the door for this charming ice cream joint in the suburbs. It has a great homey feel and an awesome patio area to enjoy your ice cream at. It's cramped inside waiting in line but it moves fairly fast. They have their standard flavors that are the typical ones you will find but even those flavors have a richer creamier taste than other ice cream spots. I got a flight of ice cream of 4 mini scoops for $5 plus extra for a chocolate dipped waffle cone which was plenty! I enjoyed every flavor I got and wish that I could sample more without holding up the line. I wish their rotator flavors were standard and you could get them anytime! The Blueberry Peach Pie...OMG YUM! And the 100 year Aged Vanilla was amazing too! They were out of the Dulce de Leche :(
(5)L H.
Amazing! Worth every penny! Everything is in-house made and the quality is excellent! Try their off beat flavors for a crazy twist - Irish Cream, Olive Oil, Hopalicious IPA just to name a few. You can't go wrong with any flavor. Very friendly staff and don't be deterred by the long lines! The line moves fast!
(5)Jessica E.
It's good ice cream, no doubt about it! I've had strawberry, black-raspberry-something, and double chocolate PB to date, and none of them top my all-time favorite (I miss you so, Amy's Mexican Vanilla). But I look forward to sampling all the flavors... maybe I'll find The One. My only complaint is for the service. I'm about to sound super old here, but what's with all those dang teenagers standing around and talking while the line is 10 people long? There were five youngsters behind the bar - one was scooping ice cream, one was running the register, and the other three were staring blankly at me as I hefted a 30-lb toddler on my hip and sighed. It made me long for the days of summer jobs when IDGAF (see? I know acronyms, I'm hip) about performance reviews and promotions. It also made me quite annoyed.
(4)Theresa S.
I've been to many ice cream shops, being a mother of 2 it seems I'm here more often then normal, and with that being said this place is by far my favorite. The location is great, the patio area is very large and well the ice cream is just darn delicious. Their unique flavors is what makes this place special. They also have chocolate covered bananas that are my favorite and cute little candy jars at the register for your little ones, or for your adult sweet tooth! I love it here and this has become our Friday night routine.
(5)Dan T.
As good as ice cream gets. Capannari is unpretentious and down-to-earth whilst still blowing anyone else out of the water! The ice cream is homemade and has a very smooth mouthfeel. I've had half-a-dozen different flavors and each one was spectacular. The flavors are all very balanced and not overly sweet (ignore any reviews saying otherwise.) Get the chocolate waffle cone, it has a satisfying crunch and magnificent flavor! It's not a cheap scoop, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality and classic American atmosphere. If Capinnari was in Bucktown it'd be lauded as "hidden gem" overrun with hipsters.
(5)Amy K.
The best ice cream in the suburbs and quite possibly the whole Chicagoland area. Our usual favorites are the java chip, double chocolate peanut butter and strawberry (our daughter loves "pink" ice cream). The ice cream is homemade and you can definitely taste it. Thick, creamy and made with real ingredients. Store bought ice cream or chain places just cannot compare. One small issue I have noticed lately is that the serving sizes vary between who is doing the scoping. One time my mother-in-law had a massive amount of ice cream for her "double" and my single was literally one scoop (when in the past its two smaller scoops). Just this past time my husband's scoop was smaller than mine when we both ordered the single. Now this should definitely not detour anyone as the ice cream is still fricken awesome; to say the least. As my husband puts it "its worth it," which is saying a lot because he doesn't think many things are worth their price :)
(5)Morgan Richelle M.
This is my moms favorite ice cream joint, and I totally get it. I have way too many great things to say about this place! We weren't in here for very long, but dropped in for 3 ice cream cones one afternoon. There were two young boys working (and working hard!), and were very professional and helpful. They let us have a few samples and offered input as well which was helpful. My gosh, they were working hard! Cleaning, organizing, scooping... they really did a great job! The ice cream vanished before our eyes. We were tempted to go immediately back for more, but we held back. Soon, Capannari, we will be back.
(5)Laurice M.
I usually visit an establishment 2 or 3 times before I review them but Capannari is an exception. I came in expecting good ice cream because of Yelp reviews and I wasn't disappointed. Amazing flavors!!! This is now my all time favorite place for ice cream!
(5)John B.
Great ice cream. Great service. Love the shakes. Took my girlfriend here and shared a banana split. They have a great courtyard for date nights. Two thumbs up.
(5)Katie A.
I love this place . In summer it's my favorite place to hang out . Here I liked each and every flavor of ice cream . It's just delicious .
(5)Candice G.
I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to drag my SO here for the past 2 months. The issue was that he loves ice cream so much, but has a bit of a self control issue. Forget eating it by the pint, this dude will take down a multi-gallon bucket in less time than it takes to watch a SNL skit... if there's even anyone out there who still does that. Everyday for the past 2 months I ask him after we have dinner if he wants to go get ice cream and he always does a hard pass in hopes of maintaining an at least semi-svelte figure. I, on the other hand, only mildly care about those things to a point, and that point starts when I get hungry. So anyway, I had to almost literally take him hostage, not tell him where we were going, and drive him here under the guise of looking at apartments in the area to get him out here... and then once we did arrive, it was super cute, but the line was wrapped around the store and out the door. We waited close to a half hour... #WorthIt. This is some daaaamn good ice cream. Firm but soft, sweet but savory, classic flavors with just a slight twist. It's like a scoop of Americana in a waffle cone... though I'm all about the cake cone. They've got a sizable list of standard flavors (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, black raspberry, butter pecan, praline pecan, rocky road, java chip, cookie dough, chocolate chip, cookies & cream, mint chocolate chip, catter, vanilla yogurt), plus some super tempting seasonals, referred to as rotators with the likes of malted butter fudge, bumbleberry pie, coconut chip, banana, nectarine sorbet, 10-year aged vanilla, peach, chocolate covered banana, and blueberry peach pie. I'd decided on the malted butter fudge and cake batter and had no regrets. I'd get these two again, and together in a heartbeat. My guy got the blueberry peach pie and chocolate covered banana flavors. He loved his so much that he scolded me for not insisting we come here two months ago. Go figure. Like I was ever going to take him to some basic b*tch's plain jane chain. As if! Everything about this place is stone-cold cute, with my only neg being that not all the flavors they had were listed on the board... making for a really stressful game-time decision when looking in the cases (when the line finally did move up that far) and trying to answer the girl behind the counter inquiring about what I'd like.
(5)Alex M.
Amazing... And to think that now that I found this place it might be dangerous. I can walk from my apartment! Very cute inside and out, love this place, I'm sure it's a hangout for many!
(5)Sarah S.
Capannari ice cream is INSANE. It is so delicious and creamy - creamy being the key word here. It just melts in your mouth and you can't stop eating it! My work has had Capannari catered in a few times which seems kind of strange, but this ice cream delivery service is completely legit. The catering comes with hot fudge, whipped cream, M&Ms, Oreo pieces, cherries & nuts and you get to choose three flavors. I always gravitate back to the chocolate because it's just so amazing! They added cute little labels on top to celebrate our work occasion which I thought was a nice touch.
(5)Real D.
Okay, here's the deal. The shop won the ice-cream-lotto-quaint-shop-let's-walk-to-get-ice-Âcream-and-eat-it-there prize. A quaint A-frame style clapboard house with glowy lights and situated right freaking next to a delightful mini meandering tiny park. The park is complete with benches, lamp posts and old timeyness. The whole scene is Americana at it's finest and the shop is damn blessed. You feel like you're on vacay when here. You know,...you rent a beach house somewhere in the eastern/mid-atlantic seaboard and the family traipse it down to the local ice cream shoppe (yes, shoppey). That kind of family happiness. It's an amazing escape, and it's no surprise that everyone in Mount P was there on the night we went. Customers spanning all generations, blissing out together on ice cream. I understand that the company is a long standing pillar of the community. I wish the ice cream was less sweet. All 3 of the flavors we had, sweet. The sugar knocked me out. What flavors did we have? I don't know. I remember sugar. When I eat ice cream I'm looking for density, texture, cream and how successful the particular flavor comes through. Was unable to assess these elements because the sugar was too pronounced. It's leagues better than the infantile junky yogurt parlors that are popping up (must be the IT franchise of the moment). Then again, I have been to the legendary Ohio shops of Dietsch and Graeters and feel I know good ice cream, gelato and yogurt. It can't touch Jeni's ice cream which is my fave for ice cream at the moment. Capannari's is a good place, just wish the cream wasn't smacked with sugar.
(3)Steve S.
New to the neighborhood and stumbled upon this gem. Double chocolate peanut butter, strawberry sugar cones- perfect afternoon snack. We will be frequent visitors this summer
(5)M K.
I like good ice cream. I like novel flavors, I like butterfat, and I'm willing to send away to have pints shipped to me from West Coast hipster artisans for $12 a shot. But I don't have to, because I have Capannari's. This is everything your local ice cream shop should be but normally is not. Quaint but never stale, novel but never silly, quality through and through. It does what it does about as well as anyplace can. If you can find a way to be disappointed in this, the fault is likely not in it but in you, friend.
(5)Jennifer L.
I found this place using the Yelp Feed while on the way home from work one day. Upon reading the glowing reviews, I decided that I had to check it out. It's fall and it is colder, but this girl can't turn down good ice cream. First of all, the ice cream is GREAT not good. It definitely lived up to and exceeded my expectations. I decided to get the mini flight so I could sample four flavors. Of course I made my boyfriend eat it with me so I didn't feel like a total glutton. We sampled the mint chocolate chip, pumpkin, cookie dough and black raspberry chip. In terms of the chips, the chip is HUGE, which is good since you definitely get bites of that along with your ice cream. The pumpkin tasted just like pumpkin pie. My favorite was the black raspberry chip and I liked the tartness of it. Mint chocolate chip was good, but I probably would skip it and try something different next time. I wasn't a fan of the cookie dough. I felt like it lacked vanilla, but then again, maybe this is the way it's supposed to taste. So, I'm not too sure on that one. I definitely will be back even if it if a bit of a drive from home. I think it's worth it. This shop has won accolades for a reason and I think it lives up to them.
(4)Agnes S.
It's easily the best ice cream spot in the area. Friendly employees. Delicious homemade creamy ice cream. A great summer spot. There is a well groomed outside area with benches to enjoy the ice cream. What's great is you don't need to order something extravagant to be satisfied. A single scoop of anything in a waffle cone will more than suffice! Overlook the Oberwise when in Mt. Prospect and come straight to the hometown ice cream joint, Caps!
(5)Jacob K.
Decent ice cream shop. Definitely best in the area. I had scup of chocolate and pea can butter which were awesome and very fulfilling. Price is up there since one portion consisting of two scups is 6 bucks without any toppings. Avoid pseudo yogurt ice cream shops and go get some real ice cream.
(5)Joanne W.
We decided to have a non-traditional wedding cake and chose Capannari's to make our ice cream wedding cake and it was a huge hit. One small cake with layers of pistachio and bumbleberry and the large cake with a brownie layer, java chip ice cream and chocolate/peanut butter ice cream layers. Absolutely delicious and better than traditional wedding cakes!
(5)Simon K.
I hope the 4 stars doesn't deter people from visiting this cute establishment, slightly tucked away from Central Road. Let me start with why I didn't give it 5 stars. I tried a few of the flavors of ice cream and they were good, but they were not otherworldly. I didn't feel like I had experienced something I could never find or experience anywhere else. Also, the ice cream melts way too quickly. With that being said, everything about this place is great. The ice cream is delicious, they let you sample as much as you want, and the staff is friendly. One small detail that gets lost at gelato/ice cream stores is that at most places, when they give you a sample with chunks of chocolate or nuts, the staff don't make it a priority to give you a piece of the chocolate or nut to ensure you get the full experience of the ice cream. At Capanarri's, however, they will be sure that your sample replicates exactly what you will be getting when you get a full scoop. Also, their scoop is actually like 2.5 scoops so be prepared to indulge yourself.
(4)Alan W.
Super friendly staff.. I've never been there before and they recommended the black raspberry and double chocolate peanut butter. I got that and the cake batter. Sold. Amazing ice cream. It's gotten a lot if press for a reason.
(5)Nicole W.
In a sea of Baskin Robbins, Capannari shines like a beautiful beacon of dairy goodness. Why so awesome? Allow me to break it down for you... Location: It's in a house. An adorable old house with an equally lovely garden. You'll find a smattering of benches and seats from the deck to the garden. It's straight up old-school-main-street type of cute. Staff: When I popped in on a Saturday afternoon, the two ladies behind the counter were certainly high schoolers. However, they were quite friendly and knew their 'scream. The fact that the entire place & products are family owned and operated brings a ton of charm to the entire experience, though. The Goods: The ice cream is delectable. And like any good treat aficionado(a), I spend the $5 and got the mini tasting. I was able to try four flavors - all in mini scoop form. And yes, it was more than enough to share. From favorite to least favorite (although least favorite was tasty, too): Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch, Malted Butter Fudge, Butter Pecan, and Strawberry. The Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch is just special and exactly how it sounds. I'm drooling as I type this. I think I found my new favorite ice cream joint in the NW burbs.
(5)Carolyn M.
We loved Licorice, Matcha Green Tea, pumpkin, cinnamon and now weekly exotic vanilla flavors. I can go on and on. Great ice cream.
(5)Yen L.
Though we live in the city, my husband and I often trek out to the NW burbs and Capannari is our go-to ice cream place, even if Oberweis is right next to our dinner spot. The hubs doesn't always remember the name, but he always wants to go "to that one ice cream place". As other reviews have said, family-owned and a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff are definitely high-school age, but they are so pleasant and patient, which is important for someone as indecisive as I can be when it comes to ice cream! I love their black raspberry and the peanut butter fudge crunch (or something like that). The hubs had had good luck with their coffee flavors. In the fall, go for their Dutch Apple. I threw my wedding diet to the wind once I discovered Dutch Apple (thankfully, I still fit my dress nicely). Last fall, we went out there for one more round of our favorites, and were bummed to realize that they were closed for the season. There happened to be a group there packing up their remaining ice cream to sell off in a few days, and the woman who greeted us at the door (owner?) felt really bad that we had trekked all the way from the city for their ice cream and they were closed, so she made sure to send us off with cups of ice cream in flavors of our choice. We totally appreciated her sympathy and the gesture and felt it was an accurate reflection of the excellent service given here. If you haven't tried it, go for it.
(5)Stephanie C.
Omg this ice cream is delicious! And they have chocolate jimmies!!!!! I can never decide what to get here, but its okay because its always so crowded so I have lots of time to decide!!!! We always used to go hear live music or see movies outside in the summer, but the ice cream alone is enough to keep us coming back!
(5)Jeff B.
We wanted ice cream last night. This place won the Daily Herald 2014 Readers' Choice Top Picks for ice cream, has an excellent rating on Yelp so we went. I sampled four different flavors, stuff I'd never heard of before: olive oil, IPA, Guinness, and oh-my-god-i-love black licorice!! The nice girl behind the counter mentioned something called a "flight" where they give you four baby scoops of whatever flavors you want in a single banana split dish. Sold! We also had coconut chip in separate dish. All was delicious (the black licorice was my favorite, followed by the Guinness. The IPA had a yummy bitterness to it and the olive oil was tasty and mild). Apparently they make all the ice cream there, upstairs. Everything was fresh, creamy, and delicious. Can't wait to go back!!

Most pleasant company to work with, hands down! From beginning to the end of the planning process, they were a joy. They were receptive, and always responded in a timely manner. I used them for an event I put together for about 100 people. We chose the full service sundae bar. They were on time, and so easy to work with. The brought all of their own stuff, including tables, table cloths, and of course the ice cream, toppings plus all the bowls/cones & spoons. Everyone raved about the ice cream, I didn't realize it was all homemade. People kept coming back for more! I think we had 4 different flavors, plus a whole bunch of fun toppings. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to cater an event. I will most definitely be using them again.
(5)Janni V.
Handmade, exquisite ice cream and sorbets, you are doing it RIGHT. If you're like me, you'll instantly be overwhelmed when you walk in. There's just so much to try, and it all looks fantastic! Luckily, Capannari's has you covered. They offer flights to make your ice cream choices less painful. You get to pick your flavors. Everyone's a winner! On days that they have it, their limoncello sorbet could probably make angels weep. I mean, I haven't actually seen them weep, but I'm making an educated guess. It is that good. Chocolate craving that wussier chocolates can't hope to sate? Come here and let it be fulfilled. Love this place.
(5)Jamie A.
Other than good customer service this place, wasn't anything special. I had the butter pecan ice cream on a sugar cone and it had one pecan in my whole 2 scoops of ice cream. I tried some of my daughters mint chocolate chip ice cream and again it wasn't anything special. I most likely will never return.
(2)Gordon G.
It's okay. I think the prices are extremely high for the tiny scoops that they serve. Not worth going out of you way for.
(2)Belinda B.
Wonderful ice cream! Fresh and made on site. My family especially liked the landscaping around the outside, great to walk or sit and enjoy your treat! I haven't gone this year, but in years past there was a butterfly garden that was lovely.
(5)Julia K.
The place was unique. The atmosphere was good. The ice cream flavor was very unique. The workers were nice.
(4)Najia Y.
Good ice cream in the burbs
(4)Shaun S.
So good. This is such a nice family ice cream place. I can't wait to go there when the weather gets warmer so we can eat their delicious ice cream on their outside tables. Good ice cream, many different flavors, good portions and a nice staff.
(4)Deb J.
We had family in from Houston, this awesome ice-cream place is their favorite spot. The ice-cream is the the best and always fresh. The absolute best part of this business is the fantastic staff!!!! The young adults working so hard, especially on this Saturday night, kept a friendly attitude the entire time we were there. The line snaked around the shop & out the door. That certainly shows what a well liked place this is. These girls had such a positive, friendly attitude that it spread throughout the shop. We will be back for more!
(5)Karen T.
I can't believe I have lived here for all these years & never was @ this place until last night! Very yummy & friendly! Great park to sit outside next to it too & enjoy your ice cream!!!!
(5)Bailey D.
I usually wait until the summer to have ice cream. The only place to go is Capannari. The staff is high energy, fun and very accommodating to allergies. They go all out. The flavors of the ice cream are truly spectacular, my favorite being the chocolate chip raspberry. Mint is a good one too and a great combo. The outdoor setting makes it perfect to sit and relax. If I go by myself, I can watch people, hear the Sunday night concert or just watch a movie on the wall. No wonder its so famous. The good ice cream, the staff and the environment!! That reminds me... It's time go go there soon! Maybe this weekend.
(5)Danielle S.
I love this place. It's in my old hometown and every time we come here I get that small town feel (though it's not a small town at all). It's housed in an old farm house off two main streets, and there's usually a line out the door. The ice cream and sorbet flavors are so good, and I happily ignore my lactose intolerance just to visit. The prices are great, the staff is friendly, and it's in the home of Lee DeWyze (Season 9 winner of American Idol). Can't wait to go back.
(5)Ann M.
We took a whirlwind Ice cream tour and stopped by last Saturday, and tried a few different flavors--I settled on the Licorice. It was strongly flavored, very tasty very unusual. My husband had peanut butter malted he thought it was too sweet. I enjoyed my ice cream, loved the decor, everyone was nice and helpful. definitely a place to stop in for unusual and very good ice cream.
(4)Rose D.
To celebrate the wonderful Summer...I mean, Spring we are having so far we headed out for some ice cream! But not just ANY ice cream...no push-up pops or Ben & Jerry's just wouldn't do. We were looking for something extra special. Ice cream so wonderfully creamy and delicious it makes you want to buy a moo-moo to lounge around in, calories be damned! With that said we headed to fabled Capannari's. If we didn't already know they were great based on the other reviews here on Yelp, the line going out the door would have been a good indicator. They have oh so many yummy flavors of ice cream! With an impressive array of regular flavors and a nice selection of rotating seasonal flavors you may find it difficult to decide what lucky flavor to spend some quality time with. If you simply cannot choose you'll be happy to know you can get a tasting flight of four different flavors of their ice cream! Oh yes, we thought wine flights were fabulous...but an ice cream flight? Heavenly! We will be coming back here many, many times... They have special flavors each month and then a whole bunch of flavors they have all the time. For St. Patrick's Day they had a Guinness flavor (I wasn't bold enough to go that route) and Irish Cream, which is what I opted for. Hubby had double chocolate peanut butter and our friend stuck with the tried and true chocolate. Each was so very scrumptious! Their ice cream texture is very smooth and creamy, but not as heavy as a custard-style. The staff consisted of teenagers who were actually helpful, upbeat and friendly. They have some benches outside and they are conveniently located next to a nice little park with additional tables & seating. My husband joked if we lived in the condos across the street I'd install a zip line directly to Capannari's. ;-)
(4)melissa g.
Homemade fresh ice cream made in batches of only 4 gallons AT A TIME. What else is there to say? Honestly the only ice cream I rank higher than Capannari's is my own homemade stuff....
(5)Phil S.
Very rich and creamy ice cream but not overly sweet. Capannari is now my favorite place to go for premium ice cream. The location, building, and outdoor seating is great. Plenty of parking and a beautiful neighborhood makes it a pleasure to be here. I highly suggest the flight during your first visit to find your favorite flavor.
(4)mei s.
This is a real find! Was in the area for dinner and yelped nearby for ice cream. You had me at "double chocolate peanut butter crisp!" We drove up to this place and was immediately in awe of the building and the nearby park surroundings. What a cool place. We went inside and the love affair continued. There's some seating inside and upstairs and it looks like an old house. Really really cool location. The kids serving behind the counter were friendly. We each got a double scoop in a cup. We had coconut chip, double choc peanut butter chip, java chip and cookies n cream. deelish! pricey though. All tolled, came to $10.
(5)Tricia D.
I think Capannari's rivals Disneyworld as the happiest place on earth. I've been told I look like a 5 year old when I'm enjoying my ice cream cones from here. You have to try the limited edition carrot cake! You won't regret it!
(5)Jacki C.
As good as homemade ice cream gets. My kids love it. Definitely a staple in downtown mp. Highly recommend it. Java chip is my favorite.
(5)Kristen M.
Get there now. This is maybe the best thing going in Mount Prospect, truly. Just drop whatever you are doing and treat yourself to some fantastic ice cream made with honest, real, quality ingredients and no pretentious tomfoolery or ridiculously inflated prices. Flavors range from kid-friendly to sophisticated and usually all are balanced and delicious, and yeah, a bit sweet but not overly so. The quaintness is a boon, yes, but the business is definitely not trading on that factor; they make an excellent, authentic product, clearly strive to keep their offerings fresh, and support their community. We go there as often as our family budget allows!
(5)Mary Kay B.
The joke in our family is "Do you want to go to Capannari's or somewhere with inferior ice cream?" Simply the best in the 'burbs, or most places.
(5)Kim A.
Capannari offers the most delicious ice creams (with new and exciting flavors every day) for the best prices, along with awesome customer service. Can't decide which ice cream? They will let you sample as many as you want until you find the perfect flavor.A definite must-try!!
(5)Andrea R.
Capannari Ice Cream catered my July 24th wedding and they were outstanding. The guests raved about the ice cream (Dulce de Leche, Chocolate, Java Chip and Limoncello Sorbet) with all the fixins. The service was impeccable and you made my day that much sweeter. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(5)Fay C.
Cappanari's is rich, quality icecream. The strawberry tastes like fresh strawberries. Every bit as good as legendary icecream places we've tried on vacation. Their special rotating flavors are also fabulous - coconut chip and hazelnut ganache are two of my favorites.
(5)Jasmin V.
My favorite thing to get is the flight. 4 baby scoops of any flavor for those who have a hard time choosing just one flavor. My personal favorite is java chip. I love to get hot fudge and peanut butter on top! MMM They have a little park with tables and benches right next door and sometimes have moovie night. It can get pretty packed.
(5)I L.
Up to the hype- get a flight
(4)Bill S.
This place is a treat for the ice cream lover in all of us. The choices are good and tasty, but I quite enjoy the ambiance - like a step back in time where neighborhood stores were converted houses in the middle of the block. I'll be back for both reasons!
(5)Salima B.
I love this place so much. I always get a flight (4 scoops of any flavor you want) for less than 5$! My favourite flavor is raspberry chocolate chip! IT IS SO GOOD I DREAM ABOUT IT! Cannot wait for it to open again :)
(4)Danielle S.
Officially my favorite ice cream in town. I saw this place on Yelp and knew I had to come here. It's located in a cute cozy old house. When you walk in you will immediately see chalk boards with rotating flavors, their regular flavors, and their menu. They have all sorts of flavors - many of them unique, which was nice for a change! They will let you sample any of the ones you want to try. I decided to get their flight (4 small ice cream scoops for $4.50). What a genius idea! The Chocolate Hazelnut Ganache is the best! They also have cones, sundaes, smoothies, shakes, ice cream cakes, and other treats. They have a little seating on the inside, and some outside as well. On the walls you will find newspaper articles featuring Capannari Ice Cream, pictures of celebrities that have been in to try the greatness, and pictures from events they were at. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, and the ice cream is delectable.
(5)Kelly A.
Best ice cream shop ever - hands down. From the decor, to the staff, to the amazing homemade ice cream... It doesn't get any better than this!
(5)Jake M.
Its hard to believe that the nearby Oberweis could get any business when you have Capannari. Absolutely the best malts, shakes, and ice cream you can get in the area. The place may be small, but its nicely decorated and stays nice and cool in the summer.
(5)Rena P.
Oh how I LOVE ice cream. And Capannari's is SO MUCH of the reason I do. All in-house created ice cream flavors and each is better than the next. My personal favorite is the Java Chip. Smooth, soft and sweet. They use a lot of large chocolate chip pieces allowing for a chip in almost every bite. How can you go wrong? Other tops on my list include the Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch and (of course) peach. My companion is pretty-much addicted to the black licorice. It's actually one of the few places in Chicagoland you can find Black Licorice ice cream, making it worth the trek. And as I'm told, it's not just that they offer the flavor, it's that they do a fantabulous job with it. Personally, just thinking about that as a flavor makes me want to spew--it's certainly an acquired taste; and those who've acquired it are in L.O.V.E. What else can I tell you, this is a neighborhood joint. It's you're into sterile, corporate branch ice cream facilities, you can pass on Capannari's. However, if you're the type who appreciates an independent ice cream shop with hand-written featured flavors and a homey, rustic setting, this is your place. There is seating available inside, but you'll want to cash in on the outdoor seating. They're located by a small "park" with benches, picnic-like tables and garden décor. Super cute and very "small town shoppe" feeling; oh, and there's plenty of free parking.
(5)s k.
Yummmm. I'm a big fan of Humphrey Slocombe ice cream in San Francisco so I'm always looking for ice cream shops. Capannari didn't have any exotic flavors when I visited so I ordered dulce de leche and malted butter fudge. I'm not a big fan of malted chocolate but decided to try it... yum, yum, yum. The ice cream is rich and creamy. I was sad when I ate the last bite. It's housed in an old house and I got lost trying to find it (google maps was not helpful)...
(5)Karl M.
This place is the best. Homemade flavors. Lot's to choose from. There's a small park and garden next door for people to sit and let the kids run around. Quite a few tables and benches and plenty of grass. The line may be long but it goes fast. Ask for samples before you commit to a flavor!!! The kids behind the counter are always friendly- who can be upset working in an ice cream parlor? I hear they even show movies in the park next door. This place is worth a stop if you're in the area. The Metra C-NW (Chicago to Harvard) station is only a block or so away for city people that want to venture not too far away. They make solid flavors and some can be pretty exotic. My personal favorite is the Hop flavor. I'd have never thought to put hops in anything but beer. Holy Cow Juice! I'll take it in a malt.
(5)Em P.
Im in love... specifically with their peach ice cream. Saw this place on Chicago Best "Sweets" edition and figured the hubby and I would head out there for a date night on a nice summer night. I'm so glad we did. Its a cute little house that's been transitioned to a business. There's a little garden nearby where you can eat your ice cream and hang out. Parking was a breeze, too. It's alitle chaotic when you first get in but the crew working the counter are beyond helpful (and fast). The signs are so clearly marked on prices/flavors.. you name it. This business clearly has it down to a science. Im also a big fan of their "flight" option which gives you 4 baby scoops for 4.95. I was able to sample their peanut butter/chocolate combo, brownie batter, cake batter and peach! All were beyond delish. Highly recommend!
(5)Ryan H.
This place is a diamond in the rough, open seasonally (for obvious reasons) this has to be the best ice cream shop in the state! They make all their ice cream in house, they even try new flavors that they create. They have limited indoor seating but plenty of outdoor seating in the middle of a garden. Very nice, very clean and a very friendly staff.
(5)Ray P.
Yes, the line is out the door, down the stairs and up the sidewalk (but the crowd is relatively orderly and doesn't push, shove or get overly worked up about it). Yes the inside of the store (and old house) is frenetic and frenzied. Yes, too many people are tasting every possible flavor (hey, it's your right when you reach the glass case of deliciousness). However, on a balmy summer evening, with a brilliant blue sky and my adorable niece, nephews and their cousins running around terrorizing couples on dates here (seriously folks....no rolling of the eyes...this IS a family establishment...and an endless source of entertainment to see the couples sit on a bench for no more than 5 minutes, which is just long enough for them to tolerate the high-pitched screams of delight from the children as they run around in and between them). I'm basing my 5-star upon the single scoop of 10-year Madagascar Vanilla in a plain cone. This is quite simply the purist of all flavors. No gimmicks, no additives, even my cone was "plain" (not a sugar cone, or one of those ridic waffle cones dipped in chocolate and stuff -- by all means, try EVERYTHING, as it is all delicious). The most iconic of flavors, vanilla ice cream, only embellished slightly with 10 year old madascar vanilla bean. 5-stars without discussion. Not just priceless. Timeless. And perfect.
(5)Stacy S.
Capannari has been on my list of places to try for quite some time now. The weather has been so hot lately, so I figured this was the best time to go. Ahh this place made a great first impression. Good spot for delicious, homemade ice cream. They feature a wide variety of flavors. Cant' decide? If you have your heart set on more than one flavor, I would say go with the ice cream flight. I picked mint chocolate chip, cookie dough, cake batter, and mango coconut. All of the flavors were tasty, but the mango coconut was by far my favorite. Yummy! Cappanari is located in downtown Mount Prospect. It has a very quaint, homey feel-- located in a building that looks like a house in small town U.S.A. To add, the service was quick and the staff was very friendly. Yes, yes. I will be back.
(5)Angelica S.
Lovely little location. And amazing ice cream. It's definitely a great place. The ice cream is of premium quality. There isn't a whole ton near by to do, but it is a great local shop people need to try! Ask for samples, don't be afraid to try something new! Everyone is really friendly here. Lovely little gem to have near my home town .
(4)Kathy F.
Yum. Chocolate-covered Strawberry ice cream. Went here a week or two ago with the husband, who indulged in a Frango mint shake--with whipped cream and extra chocolate sauce. Pretty busy for a Friday night but we managed to hit it right before a crowd showed up. Friendly service and a quality product! We will definitely be back!
(4)Cheryl T.
I have been there twice and tried two different flavors. The double chocolate peanut butter did not have any peanut butter on my cup. The mint chocolate chip was very refreshing, but my serving had no chocolate chips. The ice cream is great, but missing the add in ingredients when scooped.
(3)Rachel J.
Yum! I went here to support "Light it up BLUE" for Autism awareness. Capannari's was donating 10% of the proceeds to the cause. Having never heard of this ice cream shop, I was looking forward to trying something new and local. We arrived and were met with an array of flavors from standard to outstanding. I finally went with a scoop of coconut chip, and the Mr. went with rocky road. The young staff looked at us like we were aliens, so I felt a little uncomfortable, but, you know, not TOO uncomfortable for ice cream. The ice cream was closer to expensive than cheap, and the rocky road was incredibly sticky. I don't know what it was, but it had a peanut-butter like quality to it. It tasted good, so it was not freezer burned or badly flavored- just really sticky. The location? In an old house on a quiet(ish) street, surrounded by benches and a walking path outside; and a few tables, chairs and stand up counters inside. Charming on a slow night, but I bet the place resembles Lollapalooza on a warm summer night.
(4)Steve M.
It ain't about the ice cream (although Capannari's ice cream is fantastic). It is the creative, positive energy and the sense of community that defines the experience and which truly sets Capannari apart! Start with the setting. Capannari IS NOT one of those soulless, endlessly replicated, cookie-cutter, gazillion-flavor places, that you could clean with a fire hose. It's in a former house! How crazy is that? There is seating on the deck outside, and it is adjacent to a small park. Reminds me of my grandma's place. The staff is friendly, attentive, and responsive. And while they have the traditional favorites (like my beloved butter pecan and pralines and cream), they are also willing to experiment. Tonight, I tried their hot chocolate flavor, made with chili peppers. It wasn't for me (I had to get some water after just tasting it) but, man, you have to give them their due for pushing the envelope! Bottom line: It's a jewel. A one of a kind place that specializes in smiles one scoop at a time!
(4)Christopher S.
BEST. ICE CREAM SHOP EVER. Don't read my review, just run there now. My wife and I went twice in the same weekend and I've never done that in my life. Seriously this place is awesome. It's located in a quaint little house and the interior follows suit with a very homey feel. The staff is extremely courteous and they work quickly. I also noticed that when other people enter the shop the other person working immediately comes to the counter to help them. Anyone that frequents other ice cream shops knows that this isn't the normal. Last but not least the ice cream is simply great. If you don't have a favorite flavor you'll find it here. My recommendation is the chocolate hazelnut ganache but you better act fast because it's a limited run flavor. They also offer milkshakes, smoothies and cakes. I've only had the milkshakes and ice cream but I promise no matter what you choose, you can not go wrong. PRO TIP: First timers have to try the flight (4 scoops of any mix of ice cream flavors for 4.50)
(5)Ericka A.
This is now my second favorite ice cream place that I've ever been to. Words escape me to describe the deliciousness that is served up by the scoop. It was a real treat to come here. And though the weather didn't cooperate (I like sunny hot days for my cones), these treats managed to brighten my mood. Their waffle cones are crispy and packed full of flavor. I hate getting cones with the consistency and taste of cardboard, so this was a nice change of pace from the norm. Their cake mix ice cream tasted as it should have and my double chocolate peanut butter crunch matched every adjective. My friends also tell me that if you come on an extremely hot day that your ice cream will begin to melt immediately. While it's a pain, this is how real ice cream should be.

I am not a big ice cream person but I was pretty impressed with the black raspberry ice cream here. I think this will be my go to place for ice cream for now on. Went on a Sunday night and the line was out the door. My only complaint was that I ordered a pint to go and in order to get people in and out they would take orders while you are in line and give you your ice cream but then you had to wait to pay at the register which means my ice cream is melting the whole time. That system seems to need a little work but next time I will just let them know not to do this.
(5)Nancy H.
Cute neighborhood gathering hole catered to all things suburbia because of the quaint "house" it's in and a sizable lawn area with outdoor seating & tables. You'll see minivans and SUVs parked all along the street in the evenings with their trunks popped open and neighbors standing around while enjoying their Capannari's. If you can look past these things, you will walk out a winner like I did with two pints of black raspberry chip and Frango(?!?) - so ingenious! They serve everything related to ice cream / sorbet / froyo: cakes, cream sodas, sundaes, and milkshakes. And there's an assortment of flavors; while some are standard, others are rotated. Although I appreciate a variety of flavors, they stick to what's good, not just creating a flavor because it's unique. Personally, I don't need all the bells and whistles. Strip away the mass of gas guzzling vehicles, the sticky children, and the adorable house. But you'll still be left with creamy, exploding with flavor ice cream that you can't get at a chain, and I'm sold.
(5)Howard L.
This is a pretty neat little ice cream place. On a local recommendation, we swung by after a dinner in Arlington Heights. The ice cream being good, creamy, and just the right richness is one thing, but there are other good competitors out there. It's the neat old house, and the little park nearby, and the nice street right out front (Pine Street), where you can just loiter and enjoy your ice cream outside on a pleasant summer evening, that makes this place a really unique stop in the metro area. Not sure I have run into an ice cream shop quite like it, but will be sure to drop in if in area again at the right time.
(5)Kyle M.
Best ice cream in town love it
(5)Bezzka B.
Black Raspberry is a blast! Great spot to spend afternoon with kids eating ice cream, especially when they have a band playing outside! Heading there right now for my birthday cake
(5)Alan R.
i was near Capannari today and just had to stop in. I asked for a sample of their teaberry. Its mochi tea and berries. After trying it, I knew that's what I wanted. It was the perfect refreshing flavor on a hot day. My previous review was from four years ago and everything I said then rings true. If I could give them infinite stars I would. Without our doubt the best ice cream I've had anywhere. Just eating there today made my whole day.
(5)Brian S.
Best ice cream in the Northwest suburbs hands down! My family has been going to this place since it's doors have opened. We've tried pretty much every flavor they offer and I have yet to try one I did not like. Of course there's some that are better than others (black raspberry chip should be given a medal), but all of 'em are good. Highly highly HIGHLY recommend.
(5)Karen S.
Seriously what can't I say about this phenomenal place! Top notch place to spend time with friends and family. The only negative aspect of the place is that they are not open 24 hrs a day 365 days of the year!!!!! Hats off to the owners who all have hearts of gold. Never a bad choice to visit here.
(5)Joanne W.
I will start this out much like I did for Perry's Pizza.... I've had Capannari ice cream once a year for the last three years... Oh, except this past year b/c my nazi trainer convinced me to SKIP our yearly ice cream social. How tragic. Anyhow, the ice cream social is probably my favorite "work event" ever! Not because we get an afternoon break to chat and socialize with our co-workers thus bonding us creating a more pleasant work environment... No! It's because that ice cream is the freaking bomb, yo! I love me some ice cream and Capannari's is top notch. They roll in with their carts of ice cream and take care of us with toppings galore and that sweet creamy delicious ice cream. They also provide sorbet for those trying to count their calories...these people usually socialize with the people who elect to NOT partake in the frozen treats by Capannari's and just eat the fruit from the fruit trays. Whatever. My favorite is the chocolate ice cream with the peanut butter ribbon. I always get this along with another scoop. I've had the chocolate hazelnut and that is YUM. I just might have to make a trip out to Capannari to make up for lost time. Ice cream for lunch sounds good to me!
(4)Jeff F.
We found this place tucked away in a small corner of Mt. Prospect, just west of the downtown area. It's a great little spot. There's not a lot you can say about an ice cream shop, but we're impressed by the fact that they make all their own ice cream right there on site. My personal favorite is the Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch. One evening this past week, we found Capannari packed to the walls full of people with a small army of employees behind the counter serving as fast as they could. Down the road on the main street through town, Oberweis Ice Cream sat almost empty. Small business strikes again! There's a small park directly south of the building itself sporting a number of park benches and small tables. Though it gets packed inside, you've got a number of places to walk once you finally get your order and get out of the building. My only problem is that there aren't a lot of options for those folks who are lactose intolerant. I'm not saying they need a ton of different flavors, but a few extra choices would be nice. Parking is somewhat limited, so be prepared to do a little searching if you head over there mid-evening during warm days of the season. Regardless of its very few shortcomings, Capannari's is well worth the visit.
(4)Jeff P.
Great local place for homemade ice cream. We had the double chocolate peanut butter crunch, cookie dough, black rasberry and chocolate. There is a nice park next door. They have outdoor concerts on Sunday nights in the summer. If there is a line, stay it is worth the wait!
(5)Char Y.
Came back to use up the groupons and fell in love with the fruity flavors they carry. Love the strawberry, peach & raspberry chocolate chip. Love the coconut. My love affair with Capannari is just starting...
(4)Ruth Ann M.
This is the best ice cream you will ever have in your life. That's all I have to say.
(5)John V.
I've been here twice over the past three years and both times were wonderful. I brought a group of summer camp kids here and got the "tour" which includes the history of the building and a visit upstairs to see the ice cream maker and flash freezer... cool stuff. The ice cream is wonderful. A few interesting flavors, a few old favorites AND they carry Sprecher Root Beer and Cream Soda. I'll have to ask for the sugar-free stuff next time. The garden, outside, is a very nice addition to the quaint little house and a wonderful place to sit down and enjoy your yumminess. I signed up for their eMail list a couple years ago, and while I haven't made it back for any of their events, they all sound like a lot of fun... there seems to be a good amount of live music going on there.
(5)Jennifer S.
What a cute little place! The servers are nice. The line was made up of about 10 people from the same party. Instead of all ordering from one server and letting other people move along, they monopolized both servers so my hubby was a little annoyed. I wanted to try the Olive Oil ice cream, but they were all out. I tried the Coconut Chip. It was okay, but not quite my sorta thing. Instead, I had a waffle cone with Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Chunk ice cream and Lick the Cake Bowl Clean ice cream. The cake stuff was great, but the double chocolate was soooo chocolatey (living up to it's name, I guess) and there really wasn't any peanut butter flavor to speak of. The cone was fresh and yummy. It was a fine experience, but the overall consistency was weird and I am not sure that we will be going back. I prefer the texture and flavors at Oberweis.
(3)Jeremy C.
We were SOOO happy to find this gem near our area this summer! Everything in our local area (Schaumburg) seems to be the "same-old" joints...baskin robbins, coldstone, blaugh.... THis is an independently owned and totally ADORABLE ice cream place! Seasonal flavors rotate....our favorite seasonal flavor so far is the FRANGO one! Anything and everything mint-flavored is amazzzzing.... it has enough MINTY-ness, if you know what I mean. The place has a cute cozy deck area to lounge with friends and eat ice cream and a small, quaint little park next to it to eat your ice cream as well....love it!
(5)Stephanie P.
I ordered six pints of ice cream through the website. The customer service was fast and excellent customer service. Katie warned me that it would be expensive to ship as a gift to Texas (and it was) but it was SO worth it. My step-mother received the maple walnut ice cream yesterday (in time for her birthday) and she's raving about it. It arrived safe, cold and amazingly delicious. She says it's the best ice cream she's ever tasted! Maple walnut is one of her favorite flavors, and it's extremely difficult to find. This is the first time she's eaten it in 15 years and she was absolutely over the moon with happiness. This really meant a lot to us because she's been living with incredible back pain for months, and this was a much needed dose of happiness. If you're debating whether or not to order online based on the amazing reviews, go for it. Believe the hype! These guys are top notch.

Great place to get some ice cream. Have been going here since my son was 2 1/2. Nice garden next door to eat and hang out on a summer night. You won't be disappointed.

YUM! i love capannari's the ice cream is so smooth, ice cream from jewel won't seem like ice cream anymore after you have capannari's! the place is only open seasonal so when spring time comes around it'll be packed! its a small place where there's only enough room to stand in line to get your yummy ice cream, theres outdoor seating but not alot. They have free water, where the cups are like little shots of water but it's appreciated! I'm not sure exactly what time would be best to beat the crowd, the crowds seem to come and go. I have tried they're cookies and cream and chocolate chip cookie dough, AMAZING. as soon as i get brave enough to try some of their fancier flavors i will. They have limited time flavors like lavender, and more. I only wish the place was bigger so i can enjoy my ice cream in the air condition on those humid days

My husband and I really enjoy coming here for ice cream. Not only is the ice cream very tasty, but you can sit in the little park right next door and enjoy your ice cream. The setting is beautiful and the is cream is great! I love supporting local establishments! I took a star away, because I called on a Tuesday to order a Ice cream Cake for pick up on Sunday and they said there would be a extra "RUSH" charge for a custom cake. They were already more expensive than the other local place I had called, but I thought I would support them. After they told me that I said forget it and got a custom cake from the other local ice cream stop that was made fresh and custom. They actually said you can call Thursday or Friday and we can make your custom cake for Sunday. This star removal is deserved.... who knew that 5 days was a rush order when your picking it up.

Coconut Chip Ice Cream is divine! The workers are super nice and there's plenty of seating. The interior is very rustic; old country feel. Very quiet neighborhood, which is also next to a park. I've fallen in love with this place! Would definitely go back to try the other flavors.

Coconut Chip Ice Cream = Heaven! Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake = Best ever! Nice garden space out front to relax in while enjoying your frozen treat. A wonderful addition to downtown. Excellent use of a historic building. Go check it out but don't eat all of my Coconut Chip!

For the most delicious ice cream and the cutest ambiance go to Capannari's. I went to Capannari's for an ice cream break with co-workers. (We work near downtown Des Plaines and got there in less than ten minutes - quick trip up NW Highway.) I had a scoop of the 10 Year Old Vanilla and a scoop of the Praline Pecan. The young lady behind the counter was so helpful. She recommended the 10 Year Old Vanilla over the Vanilla if I wanted more of a vanilla flavor (deeper flavor) and the Praline Pecan over the Butter Pecan if I liked carmel. I couldn't have been more pleased. My co-workers loved their choices as well, which were Strawberry, something chocolate-peanut butter, Chocolate Hazelnut Ganache, Raspberry Choco Chip, and Lick the Bowl Cake Batter.

As I walk into this neighborhood ice cream shop the girl behind the counter already knows what I want. "Let me guess, single scoop of mint chocolate chip in a cup." "Yes ma'am! You've got it down." My friend who I am with looks at me a bit bewildered. "That's all you get?" she asked, "Why don't you get something different?" I stick with the mint chocolate chip because it is the truest test of good homemade parlor ice cream. The chocolate chunks have to be made from the correct kind of fudge and the mint has to be balanced oh so carefully in order to cleanse the palate but doesn't over power the chocolate. Store bought mint chocolate chip ice cream always has an improper mint to chocolate ratio or the choco-chunks are blended, in chip form, or just all around crappy. Even though Capannari's has a bountiful array of ice cream, from the classic vanilla to the wackier maple bacon, I will always stay true to Capannari's mint chocolate chip because it is simply the best around, hands down. "Wow." my friend said. "You should write a review of that." "Nah. You'd have to taste it to understand."

This might very well be the best ice cream I ever had and I'm not kidding. Great smooth creamy texture, well balanced flavor, simply awsome. Life is good at Capannari. The place is a tiny old house in Mt Prospect that is easy to miss but it is certainly worth the detour and looking for it. The choice of flavors is interesting (the usual stuff but also odd ones such as licorice for example) and they also have a few sorbets for a lighter treat. Grab your treat and enjoy it outside in the nearby park for a perfect summer evening. Glad I found this place (thank you yelp). I will for sure become a regular (better increase my fitness routine first...).

On the suggestion of another Yelper, we tried Capannari's today. PROS: I concur that you should do a flight of mini-ice cream scoops. the flight is four decently size small scoops for $4.25. CONS: We were disappointed that the ice cream flavors were not more exoctic or fun. I did notice some unique flavors like "Frango" which is the mint-chocolate of chocolate fame, but we were hoping for something fun and unique. The ice cream is good, nothing to rave about though.

When we told my wife's family friends we were moving to Mount Prospect almost all of them said we had to go to this ice cream place and weren't we lucky we'd be so close. We went our first week after dinner, with the kids in the stroller and the teenage wait staff was nice enough, but the ice cream was mediocre. I got peanut butter chocolate chip and there was little to no peanut butter flavor. My wife's cone was cookie dough so harder to mess up. Both had the icy consistency you with some brands of ice cream like Breyers. Not as creamy as others. Personally I like Oberweis better. And I really prefer to support local places! Decent prices though.

I live in the city, and don't make it out to Mt. Prospect...ever. However, I was lucky enough to sample some of Capannari's ice cream bars at an office event, and WOW. The black cherry and dark chocolate hand-dipped ice cream bar pretty much made my week. I'm secretly hoping they open a second location in the city.

I bought a Groupon for Capannari, so my husband and I went up to Mount Prospect as our Friday night date. The line was out the door and there were so many kids screaming and running around. We were kind of overwhelmed, but got our ice cream and headed to sit in the car to eat in peace and quiet. When I started eating, I realized why this place was packed. I got white chocolate raspberry chocolate chip in a chocolate dipped waffle cone that I have been dreaming about ever since. It was phenomenal! My husband got chocolate chip cookie dough in a waffle cone and his was out of this world too. Groupon or not, I would go back to Capannari's and endure screaming children for another cone of white chocolate raspberry chocolate chip any day.

The best Ice Cream in Illinois.

Pretty good ice cream for a pretty good price, This is nice little joint in Mount Prospect and to tell you the truth I probably would never have found out about it if it wasn't for a friend of mine. Something about this place that just makes it quaint and enjoyable. There's a nice little outdoor patio/patios to sit at if the temps not to hot. I'm trying to get my co-workers to check it out so hopefully I'll be going back sooner then later. If I lived in Mount Prospect I'd be here pretty often and the things I would probably enjoy the most about it is that's it's a local join-/family owned, homemade icecream and they have special event s here all the time. Check out there website to find out more. capannaris.com

Our family of four went to Capannari's and were so happy we did. We went on a Saturday late afternoon and the line wasn't bad at all. My husband and I decided to try the "flight" with four baby scoops of different flavors. It gave us a chance to see how incredibly delicious all the ice cream was. Unfortunately, they were out of the Chocolate Hazelnut Ganache when we got there. I chose the Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch, Frango, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Coconut Chip. Mmmmmm. I don't think I could ever forget this ice cream. The Double Choc Peanut Butter Crunch didn't have any crunch in it (at least my baby scoop didn't). The chocolate is really rich (just like I like it) and there was ribbons of peanut butter in it. If you are a chocolate mixed w/ peanut butter fan you won't be disappointed. My favorite was the Coconut Chip. Having grown up on a tropical island, I truly appreciated the pure taste of Coconut, not too overbearing but very distinct and creamy. I was in heaven! I loved the Frango and Mint Chocolate chip as well. I tried my husband's Black Raspberry and it was awesome as well. Is there a bad flavor in this place? The best part about this place is how pure the flavors taste without overpowering the ice cream. I can't say enough about it. I love this place! My new favorite ice cream!

Mint chocolate chip to die for. 10 year aged vanilla and java chip money in the bank.

We came in at the right time (no wait!) - we also had a groupon for this establishement that gave us 50% off our bill. Ice cream was some of the best I have ever had. Chocolate Hazelnut Gonnoche was amazing *just like Bon Appitite said it was....Highly recommend!

DELICIOUS! AMAZING! Best homemade ice cream ever! LOOOOVE the cake batter flavor. Cute little park right next to it, you can sit down and enjoy your treat :) definitely recommend it on a nice day!

Cap's is wonderful! Mint chocolate chip, Frango, Raspberry chip, peanut butter chocolate... Or is it for Moo-vie nights, when they show movies on the side of the building and families all gather ...for free...to watch them? Or is it for running concerts in the cute little park next-door? Or Mt Prospect Idol? Or Kahlua ice cream? Or Java chip? Or how they actively support the arts in Mt Prospect? I don't know....it all adds up to the best ice cream place ANYWHERE! See for yourself!

Totally gives you a family-owned feel since it's in an on original super old farm house. They have awesome quality ice cream and their soft serve is great too! Their flavors rotate every summer though and i miss the tiramisu icecream- I made a special trip at least once a week for it. Very cute place, with a nice garden area outside for enjoying your icecream with friends. Mm.

My only gripe is they hide the sugar-free ice cream in the back. On several occasions I was told by my server that they didn't make sugar-free ice cream, even though I know that they do. I suspect they fibbed so that they wouldn't break their arms scooping the sugar-free ice cream, since it is a much harder ice cream. Otherwise, this place is awesome! The flavors are unique and very tasty (even though I'm not supposed to have anything with sugar). I wish they could find a way to make lowfat, low sugar ice cream and be proud enough to show it off under the glass.

This place has a marketing powerhouse at the helm. So much has been made of their ice cream in the foodie press including Bon Appétit and you know the writers for that mag aren't hanging around dingy Mount Prospect. The ice cream is average and certainly NOT worth the drive if you live in Chicago. Apparently, none of the devotees of this place have been to Switzerland or Germany where you can get far superior ice cream in most villages. Oh, and it is the least cheerful ice cream business I have ever seen; shabby and not cleaned well. Check out the dirty walls, bleh.

Due to a fortuitous series of events, I happened to find myself in Mt. Prospect after dinner with people who were craving ice cream. I steer them away from McDonald's and quickly check the Yelp mobile app to see if there is anything in the area. I see the high ratings for Capannari and I lucked out that they just opened for the season and were still open late Friday night. Everyone purchased the four flavor flight and we only have positives things to say. My only disappointment was they were out of the Madagascar Vanilla. It reminded me of Berthillon in Paris, with the bold, fresh flavors. It certainly beat anything else I've had in the Chicago area and now I have an excuse to return to Mt. Prospect.

Forget Oberweis, folks! If you want to try some simple ice cream or be a little adventurous, you gotta try Capannari's. They have an extensive list of flavors available. It's the best. The minute you walk in, you feel like you're on vacation in Door County something. I had the Java Chips the other day, but I'm going back to try the POMEGRANATE SORBET soon! Oh and the waffle cone I had was crunchy and fresh. Just the way I like it.
