The pulled pork is wonderful even without the two BBQ sauces of your choice. I do recommend the sauce though, good stuff. My husband likes beef brisket, but he was not impressed. Once in a while I stop in and get a pound of pork with a large side of greens for dinner. (We don't eat a lot of carby foods) The staff is super friendly, always treating us like they've known us forever. We love that.

sauce is homemade by Ron. very good food

It's our first visit to this place. She ordered the Sloppy Ron with sides of cole slaw and mac & cheese. The guy behind the counter suggested I get the Brisket Sandwich with hot sauce. I had that, with cole slaw and sweet potato tots. We also got an order of fried pickles. With sauce dripping onto my chin and covering my fingers, I look at her and say "mmmph woummph wormph the drmphh frmphh Brookmfld." She is a LOT more couth than me, so she swallows her food before saying "I was thinking the exact same thing!" Google maps says it is 50.5 miles from Brookfield to Ron's Pork Shack - a 65 minute drive. What I said to her, which you couldn't understand because my mouth was filled with mouth-watering food, was "this would be worth the drive from Brookfield."

Great food and nice people! Love the sweet potato tater tots! The ribs are fabulous...and the pulled pork will melt in your mouth!

My wife and I were coming home from Starved Rock and looked at reviews of the restaurants along the way. This place had the best reviews and we decided to try it out. Hands down, the pulled pork sandwich was the best we ever had. The french fries was just as tasty. The portions were huge. The service was amazing. Give it a try; you will not regret.

Good BBQ. . Best in the area and its definitely wortg stopping by. Torn between this place and Famous Daves at the moment. Gets busy quick and wait jumps a lot..

This place has great BBQ and the portions are huge for a good price. I order the pulled pork sandwich and it was amazing. Also the mac n cheese was my favorite side. The staff was very friendly and starting conversations with everyone at the restaurant. I would go back for the Ribs which i heard were really good. The sauce was my favorite part and i even asked for extra since it was that good. I was very surprised with this restaurant on the quality of the BBQ they had. Everything was great and the smells were amazing.

Yes! OMG, I am so full! Been on the road for 28 days and 13,000 miles, finally got a day off and Ron himself delivered my order to the truck stop, thanks Ron! I drive all over the country and I have to say, this is some of the best BBQ around! I had the Sloppy Ron, corn, fritters, onion rings and slaw... It's hard to find a restaurant that does everything good, but this one does! The onion rings were superb, pork was wonderful... What van I say... Check this place out if you get the chance! Tell Ron the truck driver sent you! :-)

Delicious! Great little place. Welcomes you with smile and makes sure you are satisfied. Ordered pulled pork and my brother had beef brisket. Portions were just right, although expected a bigger sandwich but it was enough. So, if you are out of town and kayaking in Morris, IL make sure to swing by after.
(5)Greg P.
The food is phenomenal! Highly recommend the pulled pork. Owners are really cool and pay attention to detail.

We just stopped for dinner and had brisket sandwiches with coleslaw and sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious and the owners are extremely friendly. A great place to stop when you're on the road.

Stopped into Ron's Pork Shack today for the first time since I live 38 minutes and 32 miles from Ron's however it was Sunday so I took a drive out to Morris to see the river. I stopped at Ron's after looking for a place to eat on Yelp. I love BBQ and when I saw the ratings and read the reviews I decided I had to try it out. I was there just after noon and there were quite a few people eating lunch there, picking up lunch, and one man picking up a catering order. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich in a basket which included 2 sides and a drink. I also wanted to try the brisket so I ordered a brisket sandwich also. I ordered small sandwiches versus the large. The small sandwiches were more than filling. The pork was hot, juicy, and had a very nice smoky flavor. It tasted like it had just come off of the pit. It was delicious! Same goes for the brisket! Very meaty, tasty, and tender, just perfect! I chose slaw and potato salad as my sides and both were very cold and delicious. Ron, the owner, was working the line with a young man and young woman and they all seemed quite nice. Ron chatted with the customers he knew and those of us that were new to his place. A woman came in just as I was leaving to help out this team of 3. The place was very clean and is located in a small strip mall just west of 47 on Route 6. The decor is perfect for a BBQ place. I have eaten BBQ all across the southern states and up here and this is some if the best BBQ I have ever had. Can't wait to try the ribs and chicken and other items on the menu. Despite the distance I will be going back at least once a week or so thru the summer and fall. I was pleasantly surprised!

Found Ron's by chance on Yelp, on a Sunday afternoon while in town cheering on my daughter's softball team. I travel a lot, don't like chain restaurants, and am always looking for a place to enjoy the local flavor. Wow, I found it!! This place is a gem and arguably has one of the most delicious pulled pork sandwiches and meat selections have ever seen. It was so tasty, and w no need for sauce, but I did try it and was wonderful!! Ron doesn't scrimp on portions either, this sandwich had at least 1/3 lb of meat and was pilled over 3 inches high!! Pulled right from the loin, was so tender almost melts in your mouth. I cannot say enough about this place, AND, as well I enjoyed it so much I took a couple of pounds to go - my family couldn't believe how tasty it was and now we stop there whenever we can as we pass through town. Can't wait to go back, love this place!

Ron's Pork Shack was spot on. Awesome food, polite and courteous service, all around a great experience. I had the brisket platter with mild BBQ sauce, fresh made, with sides of cole slaw and Mac&cheese. The brisket was tender and juicy and had a perfect smokey flavor (not too heavy, just right) The Mac&cheese was exceptional, just what I had hoped for and better. Cheesy, creamy, delicious all around. Cole slaw is hit or miss, the cole slaw at Ron's was like the rest of the food: Spot On. The bathroom was spotless clean, waste basket empty, all the lights were working, and just a mild bit of smoke hung in the air in the dining room which made it so much more enjoyable. The attractive lady who worked behind the counter was very kind, served us (3) quickly with the support of the gentleman working in the kitchen. My other 2 guests got the chicken sandwich which was tender and juicy, and the full slab of Ron's BBQ ribs which were out of this world good. I can't say enough good things about Ron's Pork Shack. If you live within 50 miles of the place, you need to go.

I so rarely give out five stars but I think I have to do it. This is never based just upon quality of food but also value, presentation and context. ...Go to porkygoodness.com . ...look up BBQ in websters ..ask famous dave where he eats out. It should be at Ron's. I have eaten BBQ all over this great country from chains like Famous Daves to famous joints like Neelys and Bryants...to local Chicago haunts that only the locals know....like Heckys in Evanston and modern anthropologist bbq like Smoque in Chicago that pays homage to the regional influences. Ron deserves his place in this genre. Ron's BBQ is a classic naked Q that derives its flavor from three sources: 1. The high quality of the meat 2. The real hardwood smoke that it soaks in I am guessing for the better part of a day 3. The lack of a cloying spice allowing the natural juices and sugars in the meat to concentrate and roast giving the surface a honey chestnut hued bark making a nice texture contrast with the juicy meat underneath. This is a pork lovers bbq. The presentation is NOT marred by dipping the meat in sauce and carmelizing before serving. Ron cooks the pork so skillfully that it carmelizes the surface with own juices. (pro tip: this is not the over powering smoke so common to Mesquite bbq in Texas...more like subtle hardwoods at Ron's...I am guessing oak and pecan) So milder smoke flavors here compliment the concentration of pork flavor. Also deep pink smoke rings mean flavor on the surface is different from half inch deep and different toward the deeper strata. That is three layers of different flavors within the same hunk of meat. Sides were homemade slaw fresh, crunchy and a nice balance between sweet and tang. Sweet potato fries with crystalized sugar were savory and sweet. MacnCheese had a subtle flavor of buttermilk mmmm. Ok my grand kid had the fried chicken strips. Usually just an afterthought to feed the little rug rat one of the two things she will actually swallow of her own free will. She of course ate all the fries and left most of her chicken. I of course had to try one and my goodness. I am normally not a fried chicken eater but Ron...buddy...this beats the hell out of KFC. Serve these little fingers with a couple dipping sauces or something like Buffalo Wild Wings...like a spicy thai peanut sauce and/or a hot buffalo sauce and you will dominate. Whatever crunchy savory stuff you dunked those all white strips into was divine. It was like crunch and taste without the grease that usually puts me off fried chicken. The sauce served on the side was a good balance between a subtle heat and a deeper elusive flavor...was that a little beer flavor in there? A slight pleasant bite from coffee? ...a slight tang of salted tomato in there? I love that the sauce is a departure from the single note so common to BBQ in Chicago: Sweet. This sauce is an extention of the meat and was middling between Midwest thick and Georgia thin. It also had a good mouthfeel and didnt wash out the flavor of the pork. Damn I hate giving any place five stars but when you gotta, you gotta. BTW this place is only a shack in spirit. It was absolutely spic and span and we were there towards the end of a nine hour shift. Cool mantiques with back stories adorn the walls. My only suggestions would be to add to the sauce roster for the chicken strips and brew your own tea and sweet tea. Easy to do yourself and profitable. I love it that most dishes come with a drink. Ron is not trying to rip people off with an expensive fountain drink. This is decent value. We got two pounds of tips, three sides and drinks for about 25 bucks and left there stuffed. Ok one last thing...the staff were having fun. Talking, chatting with my family, experimtasting different foods like hot dogs and things. Checking on if we liked this or that..asking where we were from. They were fun. It was a fun place. Felt like hanging out with friends.

Wow.. I went there a month ago. Now My mouth waters every time I think about this place. I got a full slab of ribs to share with a friend, and it was so juicy and tender. Ron was so nice; he gave us a free desert after he heard we were just passing through the town.

Having lived a stone's throw away from Ron's since he first opened I have frequented it many times. In the beginning, it was hit or miss, as it is for a lot of new restaurants. These days, I don't hesitate to get food from here. It has improved steadily over the years. I recommend the pulled pork, but the chicken is also good & my wife likes the brisket. His mild sauce rivals some of my favorite homemade sauces, as well. Ron's usually around & will take the time to chat. His staff is friendly & efficient. Good stuff.

We had lunch Sat April 4th for the first time here & let me tell you we will be back. Our Family loves a good BBQ & are very picky . My Husband had the Pork Nachos I at first thought he was crazy but they were crazy good. Myself & my Son had the beef Brisket again very good. My daughter now is the picky one went with the cheeseburger & let me tell you it was AWESOME!!' So as you can see Ron's was a big hit with our Family ' we will be back brining others with to try.

Solid BBQ joint just outside Morris located in a strip mall. Everything is cooked to order and both the husband and wife who run this place are as nice as they come. Ask for suggestions and they'll give you some. I've had the Sloppy Ron a few times now and each is as good as the time before.
(4)Erin R.
Totally delicious!! While traveling from Michigan to Colorado we happened to get off the interstate and stumbled across this gem. The owner Ron was working the counter and steered us to his hand made favorites. The food was amazing, portions were big, price was right. I highly recommend the Sloppy Ron sandwich and the brisket. The broccoli salad was the best side item but the coleslaw, and potato salad were close seconds. They have a picnic tables outside which was great to sit out there with our dog. If we are ever back in the area we will definitely visit again. Ron knows his BBQ!!
(5)Alexis L.
Amazing. Anything you get off the menu is good. Portions are great for what you pay. Service is awesome, super friendly. We just found these guys after looking for some place to eat on yelp. Definitely better than expected since we arent from around here.
(5)Don L.
We stopped in for lunch on the way to Matthiessen State Park, after reading the great reviews from other Yelpers. Long story short: amazing BBQ, huge portions and very friendly people. What more could you ask for? We ended up with ribs, a cowboy burger and a sloppy Ron's (pork, slaw and bbq sauce). The pork and ribs were smoked to perfection, and the burger was juicy and huge. We all had mild bbq sauce which was so good we bought a jar of it to take home. We will be back, even though we live about 30ins away.

Best pulled pork I've ever had - thanks to the helpers for their reviews! We were in Morris for the jalopy fest and being a seeker of BBQ I bookmarked it. Excellent tender huge chunks of pork piled high on a fresh bun. Coleslaw was perfect - acidic and sweet with just a touch of mayo. Potatoe salad top notch and the sweet potatoe tots and fries were stellar . Crispy and sweet - we can't wait to return! Thanks Ron :)
(5)Mike M.
Great food. Got a "sloppy Ron". Pork with BBQ and slaw sandwich. Side of sweet potato tots and potato salad. All were top notch. Anytime I'm in the area I will be eating here. Don't fuck around and eat anywhere else in Morris. If you do, may god have mercy on your soul.

After driving for 12 hours we decided to try Ron's barbecue pork because of all the good reviews! The only thing that I can say is the food was horrible! I feel like we paid $26 for garbage. I got the barbecued brisket sandwich with potato salad and coleslaw and they were all pretty much tasteless. My husband got the barbecue ribs with the potato salad and baked beans and the ribs were tough they wouldn't even come off the bone when he pulled on them looked like it wasn't even cooked all the way. The husbands/owner was sitting and watching investigation ID on TV and it was blasting loud. The wife/server gave us our food and never came back to ask us how the food was. When we got up to leave with most of our food left on our plates which were plastic baskets and plastic forks and knives that we couldn't cut through the meat with, she asked us how our food was. I said to her the meet was very tough and neither her nor the owner looked up and responded. I would never recommend anyone going to this place the food was terrible

Fat or Lean. Gotta specify but only if I see that sign for brisket... clerk asked hot or mild on sauce but did not ask this important question. Thus my brisket had way too much fat to really fully eat or enjoy... bums me out as it and sauce were good... have to think twice about returning due to this oversight..
(4)Chris B.
I think the food has actually gotten even better. Chicken and brisket really good. Baked beans and potato salad homemade and really great. Spicy sauce is really tasty. We got it to go and everything was fantastic!
(5)Art A.
Place was clean and offered tables outside, I chosen the sampler platter to get a taste of the different meats they offered and was very happy. The food was delicious and the BBQ sauce was awesome. Definitely recommend the place.

I've lived in the Illinois Chicago Land area for 13 years and Good BBQ has been my top priority to discover. Coming from Louisiana and Texas good BBQ wasn't hard to find. After 13 years and with the help of a few good friends, I stumbled upon two great places to get good BBQ. First on the list I recommend Ron's for top notch BBQ. Second Smokey Barque in Frankfort IL. If you prefer real wood smoked BBQ, I highly recommend this place.
(5)Nikki R.
We stayed in Morris during a cross-country drive and decided to give Ron's a try even though there were only two reviews. And WOW are be glad we tried it!! We both ordered the pulled pork with cole slaw, I think it was called the Sloppy Ron, and had the hot BBQ sauce on top. I also ordered a side of sweet potato tots and barbecued beans. And everything was completely amazing. This rivals any bbq I've ever had. Seriously. I don't even really like pork and the pork was so delicious and tender, you could tell it was smoked with love :) The staff was all incredibly friendly and Ron came over and chatted with us, too. If I'm ever in Morris again I'll be back! If you live in Morris and haven't been here yet you should go. The food here is amazing!!! EAT IT!!!
(5)John B.
Get the Sloppy Ron. Lots of meat plenty of sauce and the slaw to top it off. Umm tasty!!!!
(4)Holly M.
Wow. Incredibly good. I've never been a huge fan of BBQ or an excess amount of meat, but my mom convinced me to go last time I was in Morris. I had the Sloppy Ron. It was awesome. The only thing that kind of disturbed me was the adorable pictures of pigs on all the walls and then realizing I was eating those adorable pigs...but other than that, really good! It's a low-key, comfortable restaurant with great food and genuine, real people.
(4)Carmen B.
A solid 2 overall. We stopped in on the way to my mom's house and picked up some food to go. 2lbs of brisket, 2lbs of rib tips, fries, fried pickles, and fried Mac and cheese. The food was good considering we were getting BBQ in Morris. The rib tips were nice and smokey but a bit too greasy (as the oil rolling around in the container would suggest). The brisket wasn't as smokey as the tips but still decent. My mom felt it was too fatty though. I happen to like that but to each their own. Fried pickles were good. BBQ sauces were very good (hot and mild) although I didn't like the fact that it was on the side and an extra charge. Maybe this is typical of BBQ places? Idk. The fries were freshly fried but SUPER SALTY! I love me some salt but damn. Even I had to shake my portion off. Service was friendly but it's always a pet peeve of mine when there are deals available that include everything you are ordering yet the cashier says nothing. Halfway into submitting our order my husband pointed out a deal for the rib tips and fries and all we got was an, "Oh, ok". No bueno. And we also weren't told that the sauces were extra until after the fact so we added and paid for them separately. And they also forgot to include the Mac and cheese bites with our order. Didn't realize that until we got home. We called and the lady admitted she forgot to include them and so my husband ran over there to pick them up. Was the food ok? Yes. Will we go again? Most likely for a couple of sandwiches when passing through. But do I think it was worth $72? Nope.
(2)Deborah H.
Good smoke flavor, sauce was a little sweet and meat was a little fatty but we liked it overall.
(4)S K.
Great food and very courteous staff. The pulled pork was excellent. My only suggestion would be to maybe source higher quality buns.
(4)P. W.
This is a delicious little joint in the heart of Morris Illinois! Great portion sizes delicious smoke flavor and definitely a place we would like to come back to you.
(5)Sandra S.
Ron's pork shack definitely one of the best restaurants hands down in Morris Illinois. I live in Hawaii now but man I would go back at any moment just to have a sloppy Ron with some of their potato salad that is to die for. I love the staff they are some of the nicest people you'll meet in that town. If you haven't tried it your missing out! Try it now!!
(5)Morris N.
Best BBQ you will find in the Morris area. The owners are super friendly and will give you recommendations on what to try if it's your first visit. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. We tried the baby back ribs which were delicious. The full rack of ribs is large enough to definitely split with another person. If you are in the area, it's worth a try.
(4)Gayle S.
I just had my 1st time at Ron Pork Shack. In one word AWESOME. I had a pulled pork sandwich & coleslaw. It was wonderful. And Ron and his girl server were so nice and Cordial. Thank you Ron, I will be back. It was a great experience.
(5)James E.
Who would've thought you could find Quality BBQ in north Illinois. Well people, Ron's Pork Shack in Morris IL is QUALITY. Got a half brisket half pulled pork plate with collard greens and broccoli slaw. The meat was moist and tender with just the right amount of smoke, you could taste what you were meant to taste. The collard greens complemented perfectly, and the broccoli slaw was just right. Even the bread was smoky! Oh, perfect southern style iced tea! Should've asked if they sold the tea by the gallon.
(5)Ben V.
Went here last night for dinner and it was awesome! Got a pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese and fries and I will definitely be back again. Owners were extremely friendly too! Looking forward for going more often.
(5)Aaron P.
Food was great. Owner was very friendly. If you like bbq, try this place. I will be back when I am in town.
(4)Janet H.
This is how barbecue pork is meant to be. Don't be afraid of the spicy sauce, it's the way to go, barely kicks it up from mild. The beans with giant hunks of pork!!!! My husband loved the generous serving of sweet potato fries. Don't get excited and order too much - we couldn't finish his fries. Atmosphere is wonderful - the staff is professional. Been here in Morris a week, this food was the best.
(5)Mary C.
We did take out 2nite from Ron's and had the pulled pork & brisket. Both of them were Outstanding! We also had the homemade potato salad & coleslaw both were Delicious! We tried the collard greens too for the first time & they were Fantastic! We have eaten there numerous times and it is just Fabulous. We even called Ron 2 tell him how delicious everything was! Ron's Pork Shack Rocks! If u haven't tried Ron's u need 2! Morris is Lucky 2 have u Ron!

For the holidays we did a cross country road trip from Colorado to Maine and back. I had the largest hankering for BBQ as soon as we departed. As New England is known for their seafood and not BBQ I decided to wait until the Chicago area in hopes of putting these lips on some sweet sweet brisket. Found Ron's Pork Shack on Yelp with good reviews and boy were they right. All three of our plates were huge, reasonably priced, and delicious. I recommend the Sloppy Ron with spicy sauce with coleslaw and baked beans for sides. Ron himself was there and was quite funny. It's good to see an owner actually in their establishment.
