Eat here every time we visit the Morris Cruise Nights. Food is good. Place is very dark though. Could use a bit more light and my wife is turned off by the fact it's hard to distinguish the different foods on her plate with the dim red lighting.

It is what it is. A wanna-be Lalo's in Morris. Not that Lalo's is the best in Mexican food but La Mex doesn't even meet or exceed them. The service at La Mex iffy. It depends on which teenager is working as hostess. As far as the waitresses go, I've had an amazing one and a horrid one. The food is ok depending on what you order. The salsa is watered down as much as possible while still resembling salsa. I've been there a few times because my companions love it. Go figure. I much prefer Tobby's on Liberty. Maybe not the elegant Mexican atmosphere that La Mex provides but the food is a whole hell of a lot better.

I had camarones ranchero-fantastic (asked for extra lime and cilantro) service was great. The rest of my family had a taco salad, burrito and a burger ( gringo, lol) Salsa was hot, to my pleasant surprise. The lighting is fun, does not compliment the food!!!!!! Mexican food is bright, festive full of contrast and not only delicious but alive!!!!!!! Their lighting makes everything, including Heinz ketchup, brownish in color :( Friday 5/15 was are first time back to Morris in over a year ( visited Joliet location several times, loved it) discovered Tobby's,( when Morris location was under construction) so good and was like visiting a good friend! (I lived near 47th and Ashland often enjoyed food from Atotonilco. La Mex has great atmosphere

Like Brian F's wife, I hate the red lighting. Just plain creepy atmosphere, and ate in total silence. No music, t.v., a bright and cheery plant. Nothing. Lukewarm food, the 1/2 price drinks were $4.00 even then!!! On a non- special day, paying the normal $8.00 !!! for mostly ice, and sweet sour syrup, you have GOT to be kidding! Luke warm food, order was wrong, and I could not tell what the heck I was even eating. We have not been there in a while, and thought we would try a lunch, but NO NO never again. Coal City, Diamond, and just up Liberty Street is much better. Wish I had my $32.00 back.

Very tasty! Great value for lunch! It is rather dark inside!!! Thursday is cheap burrito day

Food was hot but I asked for queso cheese and got some melted yellow cheese that looked like it came out of a can...not impressed for my first time and probably won't be back...as an otr truck driver I've had some amazing mexican food and some not so amazing as well...this ranks with some of the worst...I'm sorry but it's more like American mexican food than real mexican food and doesn't have much flavor...want a real mexican experience try Los 3 burritos in coal city

Not-so-great mexican food. Quality is not great. Try the Joliet location for a MUCH better experience. I have tried many items on the menu, nothing was impressive. I am let down everytime I visit. Stay away from the tamales. They were dry, covered in disgusting salsa, and just awful. And homemade authentic tamales are one of my favorite foods at family gatherings. Refried beans are seriously stale and gross every time. Only good part is alcohol and salsa....

Pretty good - mostly standard mexican food. Had some enchiladas - they were good. Rice is a little plain. Service was good. Prices are in line with other "standard" mexican restaurants.

Sara P nailed it. Large portion of piping hot food served by a gracious and friendly staff, but... Something is missing and it's "flavor". This might be the most bland Mexican food I've ever had. It has a following and was quite crowded when I wrote this, but I won't be joining them again.

We went to La Mex on a Saturday night. It was busy but we got seated pretty much right away. They have a large menu which includes some smaller sized plates. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa had just enough heat to it. I ordered an enchilada dish which came with rice and beans. I asked for extra salsa because that's what I always do. The chicken in the enchiladas was good. It was all white meat. But I have to agree with some of the other posters...the rice was bland as was the red sauce on my enchiladas. Even with the extra salsa, it just seemed to be missing something . I have not tried any of the other Mexican restaurants in the area, but I know sometimes in rural areas in some parts of the country, you won't get authentic ethnic cuisine. This was okay for what it is.

I love the food here. House margaritas are very good. The staff have always been attentive, and the food is very good. The carne Asada....Yumm and their enchiladas are among the best I have had in mid America.

Our favorite restaurant! They welcome you like family and the service is great. Best Margaritas ever and the food is delicious.

A few nights ago, we stopped by the Morris LaMex for a bite after Ruby's Burritos in Minooka was closed. I've had some of the most amazing Pina Coladas here before, so I figured the food would match. First thing first, we were presented with two salsas (looked similar, especially in the dingy lights), but one was hot, and one mild. Thankfully my fiance tried the mild one first, she would not have been happy. The waitress asks us what drinks we would like, and I go to order a horchata (a staple of any Mexican restaurant). We find out they don't have that. So I order a coke. Then my fiancee orders carnitas -- they don't have that either... So, we settle on taco meals which were passable, but overall we were not too excited about the meal, and the rate of refills was poor -- so the service lacked there too.

We love this place. It is some of the best Mexican food in the area. We come here on a regular basis. They have a full menu. The Carne Asada is very good. The salsa has just the right heat. The margaritas are some of the best we have ever had. They do not use the cheaper bitter mix to make them. If you like margaritas, go on a Tues. or Thurs. they are half price! As far as the service goes...if you have had a bad experience go again. They now have a new manager and is doing an excellent job.

Went for lunch. Sat right away , host was very friendly. Yummy chips n salsa. I ordered enchiladas and my daughter ordered chicken chimi. We both shared fried icecream. We will be regulars for sure

Hubby likes their steak. Their chicken dishes are good, white meat. 1/2 price margarita nights are a big draw for us. ALL of their margaritas are included, even pitchers. They definitely do not water them down. We like the chips and salsa, although I don't like scorchingly hot food either. Everything is fresh and flavorful. I guess if I wanted very authentic ethnic food, I wouldn't be looking for it in Morris.

The service at the La Mex in Morris, IL is the worst I've ever had. I am a pretty easy going person and rarely complain at a restaurant, but everytime I asked my waitress for a refill or something else she would roll her eyes at me. I was so taken aback by the treatment, I asked to speak with the manager. I explained to him what happened. After I finished speaking he said something to the waitress in Spanish and walked away. He never said anything to me. The waitress then laughed at me. I will never be back. I was with a group of 3 others. We all looked at each other in disbelief. It is the only time in my life I have left zero tip.

Liked the food a lot. Service was fairly good. Nice atmosphere. Wasn't very crowded for a Saturday night, but we were there a little early.
(4)Sarah P.
Service is always fast and good but the food is just okay Mexican. It is always warm and well presented but on the bland side. The place gets busy on their 1/2 price Margarita nights. When it is busy it gets loud and echoes.

One of the best "gringo-centric" Mexican restaurants I've been to in recent memory. And no, I don't care that it's not "authentic." Interesting burrito combinations, including the one I ordered with carne asada, chorizo, and potatoes among other ingredients. The "gold" margarita is one of the best I've ever had, anywhere. It's straight-up booze with lime juice, no cheap-ass mixer. Nice place, and it will share the top of our "stop and eat" list with Bayern Stube in Gibson City whenever we travel up and down Route 47 to visit family.
