Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

We to LA Cafe last night and it was the ABSOLUTE WORST! The waitress was extremely rude, unfriendly, and unengaged. I don't know her name because she didn't have on a name tag, but she appeared to have one false eye; it was big and didn't move; that's how I'll describe her. When my children and I arrived we sat in a booth, then the waitress came over and asked for our drink order. I wanted horchata, they didn't have it, so I asked for water. I went to the restroom and came back to a pitcher of ice water and 4 little dingy cups stacked on one another. She didn't even bother to pour the darn water! That's when we should have left, but we didn't. I asked for styrofoam cups she brought back 2....there are 4 if us, I asked for 2 more. She was obviously very annoyed by this. She put chips and salsa on the table with no serving plates, my son had to ask for those; there are 4 people at a table why wouldn't you bring plates w/the chips and salsa???? I tell you I've NEVER seen or experienced worst service! Moving on, we order, our food comes out...the meat was salty, the tacos were dry, had to ask for more salsa, the refried beans were whole pinto beans NOT smashed! Needless to say no one finished or enjoyed their food. While we were eating she never came back to check on us, I had to wave her down for the check. Ok, she brings the check and walks away, I get my card and we wait for her to return for payment. It seemed like she wasn't coming back over so when I saw her again I asked do we pay at the register and she said yes.... WTF didn't this jack ass say that when she brought the check over?????? We get up, go to the register and I pay EXACTLY the check amount, she didn't deserve nor was she getting anything extra from me. While leaving my children and I notice her shaking her head looking at us. I could care less about her shaking her head, what she needs to do is some reevaluation of that evening and what she could have done differently. Tips are earned, she didn't earn one from me. Never going back there!

I've been back to LA Cafe a few more times now and I am happy to say the service has been much better and the chips were fresh. All of my entrees have been tasty. I especially enjoyed the fajitas and the price is right! I'm upping my rating to four stars as this has become our go to local spot.

The food was good, the potatoes were even better. The coffee was very weak. Our waitress was not so good. My husband asked for a suggestion on the menu and her answer was, "Whatever you want ", no help at all. She was very young but should be trained in customer service.

Tried LA Cafe for lunch. Overall everything was ok. The food was good, not great, and the pricing was reasonable. The only real issue I have is that their website does not include the full menu which means I could not call my order in ahead of time. Also, they have no printed to go menus so that means if I return, I still will be unable to call my order in before I get there. Waiting for a to go order is bothersome so I might not return.

I do not see why people are giving this place more than 1 star. It was so horrible. We walked in and saw the "please wait to be seated sign" but then were told to sit where ever we wanted. We waited nearly 10 minutes before someone came over with menus. OH man the menu. Nothing made sense. I just wanted a burrito but you had to look all over the place in different sections. When she brought the chips and salsa, I could see that the chips were burned but they actually weren't so bad. The salsa was ok, I've had far better. I ended up ordering a giant steak burrito, when it came I was kind of blown away by the size. I took one bite of it and didn't want another bite but I was so hungry at that point. I barely ate any of it and then tried the beans and rice, they were equally as terrible. No flavor whatsoever. The steak in my burrito was just god awful. The ONLY good thing about this place was the margarita was pretty good and only 5 bucks. NOTHING will convince me to try this place again.

This is the best place for Mexican food in the Tinley Park/ Mokena area. My wife and I order out from here all the time and have been satisfied with their food on a consistent basis. It's our "go-to". The portions are good sized and the prices are not too steep. They'll also go out of their way to make me guacamole without tomatoes, which I really appreciate.
(4)Kristen S.
The food at LA Cafe is usually above average but there is ALWAYS a hassle using any coupons whether it is Entertainment Book or Groupon. The explanation is that you can't use them on Specials. If everything at Lunch is a special then no coupons work.
(2)Dan L.
As far as real Mexican restaurants are concerned, this place is actually pretty good. It serves authentic and tasty Mexican food at an affordable price with great service. Portions and quality are very good and only on rare occasion have I ever gotten something I wasn't satisfied with. The salsa here is actually pretty outstanding, and may be the best salsa I've ever had. More often than not we order a quart of the salsa for parties at home, and people are always commenting on how amazing it is. Other recommendations are the combo fajitas and the enchiladas.
(4)Alisha M.
Their food is okay we come here mostly for the breakfast specials! Everything comes out quick, service is usually very good. Their food is just okay though, nothing too special about it.
(3)Greg D.
I just had lunch here with the kiddies. The food was good. I had the mini burrito and the enchilada with rice and beans for 4.95. Good price and food was good. My son had the kids burger and he liked it. My daughter had 2 chicken taco lunch and my youngest rocked the chicken nuggets. Free chips and salsa to start. My only beef was that the place smelled a little musty. I have had the catering in the past and it was good as well. Nice option in the lincoln way area.

I've been to other LA Cafe locations, and this is not my favorite. The dining room is small, but I got carry out, so it wasn't a big deal for me. But the food I got seemed a bit greasier than it should be. Frankly there are better Mexican restaurants in the area, so I'll stick to those.

I went with a friend to dine at LA Cafe tonight. The chips and fresh salsa were an excellent way to start the night. The salsa had a nice bite to it and wasn't too overpowering. We ordered an appetizer of cheese sticks which came out within a few minutes of the order being placed. The 6 sticks were laid out neatly on a plate with a mound of Mexican rice in the center. They were perfectly cooked and had excellent flavor by themselves or with the included marinara sauce. Dinner quickly followed the appetizer. My entree was a Seafood Chimichanga, which was something I had been craving since Chi Chi's had closed so many years ago. This was well worth the wait as the portion was absolutely huge and was surrounded by beans, rice, guac, and sour cream on a large oval plate. The chimichanga was the perfect temperature and had incredible flavor with all that was inside. If you are looking for a "meatless" dish for lent or for any other reason, this would be an awesome choice. For dessert, I just had to try their fried ice cream with both chocolate and honey on top of it. What an incredible way to finish an absolutely impressive meal. The service was top notch as everything was brought out promptly from the kitchen and with a smile. Drinks were kept full, extra silverware and napkins were provided without asking. All in all, this was an exceptional experience in an authentic Mexican restaurant. I highly recommend this location to all who are craving some great food. Forget going south of the border, come here instead and have a great meal!

I haven't been to LA Café since the New Lenox location burned down. This location is in a store front on LaGrange Rd. The good news is that the food and Margarita's are still very good. The chips and salsa are above average. I have been know to order them for take out. I had the skirt steak which is my go-to dish to evaluate Mexican restaurants. I would rate it as average. It was very tasty, but a little tough. I have had better and worse :-( All in all, I will definitely repeat.
(3)Steven M.
Wow! The cook was on fire tonight. I had the mexican steak and it was out of this world. It was loaded with onions, green and red peppers, potatos and tomatos. And of course lots of meat. I have had it before but not like this. I cleaned my plate. Excellent!

We were a table of five for dinner at about 7:30ish on a Saturday night. Two people had combination plates, two had enchiladas verdes, and one had the three beef tacos. There were only 4 other tables there when we arrived, and 2 or 3 when we left. I'll start with the interior. It's decorated with every kind of plastic dollar store Mexican decorations. The chairs, booths, and tables look like they're from the early 80's. Not an ounce of charm or atmosphere, even by diner standards. There was an electronic dance station playing in the bar area that we could kind of hear, but no music was playing in the main dinning area. At least it was clean. The menu has a few items listed that weren't available, and still has the old New Lenox location listed on the back. That location burned down in January of 2012! So I'm guessing the menu has not been updated in a fairly long time. Our server was inattentive, and gave us the check without asking if we wanted anything else! We did want dessert, so we had to give her the check back. Not once did she even offer to give us refills. We did notice other servers refilling beverages, so it was probably just our server that didn't care. At first I wasn't even sure if we were going to get chips and salsa. Most Mexican restaurants put it out before you have a chance to open the menu. It wasn't a big deal to me, but just another sign that our server didn't seem to care. The two combination dishes came out first, and we waited 5 more minutes for the three other dishes to arrive. The first two dishes were barely lukewarm and looked like they were sitting in the pass under heat lamps for a while. My husband had one of the combination plates and said that the chicken was massively overcooked(dry and stick to your teeth gummy) and bland. My chicken was actually cooked well, so I think his dry chicken may have been due to it sitting under a heat lamp for a long time while our food was still be prepared. The beans and rice were bland. The rice had a little flavor, but the beans had none. My verde sauce was pretty spicy, and I did like it. The fact that my enchiladas were decent is the only reason I'm giving this place two stars. For dessert we had fried ice cream and flan. The flan was okay tasting, but too heavy. Also, they make it in a sheet and serve slices of it. That's not how any restaurant does flan. I will never eat here again, and I would advise anyone else to avoid this place.

Answer: Mexican Food What was the question? Does it really matter, isn't the answer always Mexican food? In this case the question was where to eat the night before Thanksgiving? L.A. Cafe was perfect - small and intimate and real Mexican food. A real Mexican restaurant has coke in glass bottles imported from Mexico, even had it before it was so easy to pick up at Costco. You can also tell how authentic this place is if you come for lunch around 1:00 when Fullers Car Wash personnel are here for lunch. My husband had the Shrimp Al Mojo which he adores and has nearly every time we come here. My daughter and I had steak tacos, the best anywhere in the land. Delicioso. We started with Cheese Quesadillas, real Mexican coke, their freshly made salsa and chips. Great meal with fabulous service and a restaurant.com coupon, olé. ¡Buen provecho! (That's Spanish for Bon Appétit)

Ordered carry out twice. First time everything was ok. Second time, missing items that were ordered. Called the restaurant and they didn't care. Lost a customer over $7.00. I'm in management and that was a really stupid move. El Pueblito in Orland here we come!

LA Cafe is our favorite Friday night out. We go to the Los Angeles Cafe in New Lenox on Rte 30. I always promise myself that I will try something different but always end up ordering the Combo Nortena. The platter is a Chile Relleno, Carne Asada, rice and beans. This is the very best chile Relleno on the south side. I took a picture before I devoured every delicious bit!
(5)Darren O.
LA Cafe is my go to Mexican restaurant. The hot steak tacos are amazing, the burritos are all good and large and the tacos rancheros are superb as well. They always have fresh chips and salsa, which is very good to start you out. The food is good, the portions are large and the staff is awesome. Better than the new Tequila Express and El Cortez by far. The fried ice cream is pretty darn good as well. And, if you have a craving for a REAL Coca-Cola with pure cane sugar you can order up an ice cold bottle of that as well.
(4)Brenna P.
We stopped here on a Friday night because we were staying in the area. I Yelped Mexican food and surprisingly this place had the highest ratings (only 3 stars, mind you). Well Yelp was 100% accurate with the rating. My girlfriend ordered the asada tacos. Apparently they were very bland and rather tasteless. She only ate one before deciding that it wasn't worth eating more. I had the vegetarian combo. It was pretty bland but edible. There are only two vegetarian options on the menu. The waitress was fantastic and quick. The total for our entrees and 2 Coronas was $31.50. This isn't a place I'd pick to go to myself, but I'd probably eat here again if someone asked me to.
(2)Pete D.
Really good Mexican food at a great price and is one of the better places to eat in this eat. The food is always delicious and always comes out really quick and hot. The chips and salsa are really good as well. I like how much food you get for the price. The fajitas are the best around. I have been there several times and I am always satisfied with the food.
(4)Cam A.
I love the breakfast specials here. Where else can you get chips and salsa with your breakfast. YUM YUM.
(4)Don M.
Since my last visit they have done some painting and other interior work. Place looks better, but I came to eat. We started with the chips and salsa. Chips are good and the salsa is fresh. They also make a pretty good margarita. I had the Mexican fiesta, mini burrito, enchilada, tostadas, taco and beans and rice. It was a lot of food and I was stuffed but very good. Others had the steak tacos and the Mexican steak. I heard no one complaining. Not a bad place and prices are in par with others.
(4)Susan S.
Beware if you use a groupon they aren't very nice. The waitress seemed mad we did. You can't eat off any of the specials menu either . They also charge for extra chips and salsa. I believe it's because we had a groupon. Food was fine - use to go there without a groupon and had way better service. The low rating is just for groupon users. Be aware.
(2)Terra L.
Others prefer the traditional Huevos Rancheros breakfast, but sign me up for their steak taco's. Flavoring is impeccable. These taco's make my tastebuds celebrate in a way I never imagined. Maybe I'll pick some up today for lunch. Side bar: I heard their coffee is real weak.
(5)Clifford S.
This is comfort Mexican food for me. It is familiar with tacos, chips, salsa and the rice and beans. I am sure Rick Bayless does great things with Mexican food but I am glad he is not the chef here. I want the traditional Chicago way of doing Mexican when I go out for Mexican and Los Angeles Cafe does exactly that. The giant burritos are great, the breakfast is hearty and the fajitas are big enough to share. When I want something different I go with the Shrimp al Mojo and it is always excellent. Want familiar, comfortable and tasty Mexican food, come here. You won't be sorry.
(5)Emily B.
L.A. Cafe is our go to Mexican restaurant in the area. The service is good, the food is tasty and I don't even have to look at the menu anymore since I always order shrimp tacos and they aren't on there. Although they should be since they are delicious! Breakfast is also terrific and super affordable. Juevos Cancun for life - Cornbeef hash, poached eggs and ranchero sauce. To die for. Plus, where else can you get chips and salsa with breakfast?

I haven't been to LA Café since the New Lenox location burned down. This location is in a store front on LaGrange Rd. The good news is that the food and Margarita's are still very good. The chips and salsa are above average. I have been know to order them for take out. I had the skirt steak which is my go-to dish to evaluate Mexican restaurants. I would rate it as average. It was very tasty, but a little tough. I have had better and worse :-( All in all, I will definitely repeat.

Wow! The cook was on fire tonight. I had the mexican steak and it was out of this world. It was loaded with onions, green and red peppers, potatos and tomatos. And of course lots of meat. I have had it before but not like this. I cleaned my plate. Excellent!

Ordered carry out twice. First time everything was ok. Second time, missing items that were ordered. Called the restaurant and they didn't care. Lost a customer over $7.00. I'm in management and that was a really stupid move. El Pueblito in Orland here we come!

Really good Mexican food at a great price and is one of the better places to eat in this eat. The food is always delicious and always comes out really quick and hot. The chips and salsa are really good as well. I like how much food you get for the price. The fajitas are the best around. I have been there several times and I am always satisfied with the food.

I love the breakfast specials here. Where else can you get chips and salsa with your breakfast. YUM YUM.
