Nicely remodeled family style restaurant with a huge menu. If they don't have it you don't want it. Breakfast served a all day long. I had the double breaded cheeseburger with fries and a cup of chicken soup. I was stuffed when I finished. I had to leave a few crispy meaty fries behind. My wife and mother-in-law both had omelette. One was a Denver and the other a Gyro. Both came with hash browns and choice of toast. They both very much enjoyed their entries and raved about how good the coffee. You get get your tummy full for under $10. Definitely worth the stop.

Stopped by while in the area and chose Zig's because of the Yelp reviews. Okay, the fried chicken was pretty good. Service was also top notch, however there really wasn't anyone else in the restaurant so good service is expected. Other items including burger, fries, and hash browns were average. The decor is what you would expect from local flair. Crazy cheap too.

Few times in live do you experiencr such a wonderful dining experience! First of all, the serve staff is super friendly, attentive, and helpful. Second of all, ask about the house special. The wonderful special is a beef patty, stuffed with cheddar cheese, then breaded and deep fried. Served with a cup of home made soup for under six bucks. I came here wth a friend on a Tuesday and came back on a Friday with another friend and my girlfriend. If you love dive restaurants and home cooked meals, you will not be disappointed.

While 90% of the restauranteurs in Mendota were slacking off on a Monday (closed), I called up Ziggie's. Me: Are you guys open today? Woman on Phone: We're open 366 days a year. Me: Awesome! What time do you close? Woman: We're open 24 hours a day. Now that's a place I can count on! She didn't sound terribly ecstatic about being open all the time, but I sure was. Me and my eating partner felt a little out of place as the crowd was composed of families with children or older folks. But after we sat down, we felt like we were at home. Servings are massive and the wait staff was super friendly. The fried chicken was really, really good straight forward fried chicken. The skin was incredibly crispy with just the amount of grease (not so much that I need a bath afterward). The meat was tender and juicy. A half chicken will get you 4 good pieces. The ribeye steak sandwich was really an enormous ribeye steak. It was served on bread, but the bread's sole purpose in life was to soak up meat juices. Tomatoes, onions, and pickled on the side were just decorations. Sides were nothing to write home about, but who cares about sides when you can eat good meat until full. I would be surprised to find better value in Mendota than Ziggie's.

A Mom and Pop Restaurant. A bit of a dive. They NEVER close. THEY NEVER CLOSE. How amazing is that? Even better though, is the good food. I had their Sunday Chicken dinner special, with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. So friggin' good, I ordered a second dinner to go and Mom and I split it for lunch today. I actually hated having to share. If ever I am anywhere near this place, I will stop. like I said.. they NEVER close. Deeeeeeeeeelicious!!!!!

Service was very fast and friendly. Butterfly shrimp and patty melt were normal. Just a nice family diner.

Back in the days, Ziggies was one of our late night 2 in the morning hangouts. My favorite meal, which I am craving right now was the double breaded cheeseburger with gravy fries. Can't wait to get back there!

My wife grew up in Mendota, and whenever we go visit her folks I demand we eat at ZIggie's some time during the visit. Demand! It's actually been worked into our marriage vows! Okay, maybe a bit excessive. Can you tell this place has a loyal following? My biggest problem with the place is I always have a hard time deciding if I want a skillet or a sandwich. Or maybe a burger. Or a patty melt. They have great patty melts. Or maybe fried chicken. Or... Now I'm drooling. Let's try this again. Great food. Highly recommend their skillets, especially the Greek skillet; their grilled sandwiches, especially the patty melt and Rueben; their burgers; and, if you're wanting a more substantial meal, their fried chicken dinner or their meatloaf. Those are my favorites. Really, though, I haven't had anything that's been less than good there, so definitely experiment. The seating is somewhat unusual--they have a number of longer tables rather than your usual individual tables, so don't be surprised if people you don't know take a seat at the other end. The wait staff are all friendly, and while it is most definitely a place with its fair share of regulars, you don't feel out of place if you are from out of town, since it's not far off the highway. Very fast service, too; on more than one occasion if I haven't been paying attention I'm somewhat startled when I get my food because I'm not expecting it so fast. At the same time, it's not one of those places that glares at you if you linger over your coffee for awhile; we've hung out after the meal talking for an hour before and not felt rushed. Overall, a great place, either to stop at for a quick bite while traveling or for a meal while visiting.

I can't belive I'd live to see the day, but Ziggies remodeled!!!! It's now the nicest restaurant in Mendota, still with crazy fire food.

Just left from our second visit here. Definitely worth the detour from the interstate. We love the omlettes, hash browns, rye toast and endless coffee. Service is friendly and fast. Reliable diner food!

As the imaginary smell of fresh, hot buttered sweet corn is in the air, and I prepare to pack up the Jeep and make my way back the 500+ miles to my stomping grounds of Mendota for the Sweet Corn Festival, I can't help but think of Ziggie's, Ahhhh, Ziggies, your fried chicken dinners were a staple of my youth, as was playing Glenn Frey's "The Heat is On," and Taco's "Puttin' on the Ritz" on the jukebox that sat on the enclosed, porch-ish area where the restroom are located, now, and saying hi to "Mr. Ziggie," and "Mr. Marty." Then when I moved on to high school, you were always there for me after freezing football games, when the rowdy theatre kids came in after plays and musicals, and at 5 in the morning when the after-prom party let out and we all showed up in our disheveled party-wear, with the double breaded cheeseburgers and gravy fries ready to go. I don't care if your tile floors show wear and tear. I don't care if your cooks leer lasciviously from the pickup window. I don't care if you skimp on the tzatziki sauce with the gyro sandwich now and then. I raise my red, pebbled ice water tumbler full of RC cola from the can to you, and toast a small-town institution. And, hell, yes, I want gravy with that.

For a family diner this place is great. The service was fast and friendly and the food was rock solid. My jaw hit the floor when I looked at my bill....for dinner and a dessert the total was under $10 bucks. If you are driving down the highway and are hungry, exit and drive past all the fast food garbage. Ziggie's is only an extra mile and will be worth your time. On my next trip to St. Louis I will time it so I can stop at Ziggie's.

I love this place way too much... Seriously, my parents created a monster once they introduced this place to me a few years ago. I swear there's something for everyone on the menu and I've yet to taste anything I didn't like. Can't really beat the prices either. While I've ordered a couple of other things before, my go to item is the jumbo porky. Yeah, there's other places around the area that have them, but they're not open 24/7. And I love the novelty of being able to run over there on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas night to celebrate the holiday with a tenderloin. The waitresses are pretty much always friendly and attentive, but one in particular really stands out to me. I wish I knew her name because she's awesome. I don't stop by often, but when I used to go by myself after coming in on Amtrak, she knew me and knew exactly what I was going to order. Even if she didn't wait on me--if there was a tenderloin in the window, she knew it was for me. If you're ever in the area, on I-39 or not, do yourself a favor and bypass the chain places on the way. You'll get a much better meal, with more variety and better prices.
