After a trip to Wisconsin, we wanted to get some Chinese food, but didnt want to drive to Crystal Lake to satisfy this craving. I remember the food being good, but nothing spectacular to be memorable. I can see why people compare this to King Buffet.

Usually my husband and I will pick King Buffet in Crystal Lake for our Chinese cravings, but I also enjoy this one in McHenry from time to time. It's not really a looker inside and I'm not a fan of having to fetch my own drink every time I want a refill, but the buffet spread is diverse and hot, and I absolutely love their cheesy mussels.

Ok so here's the deal with this place: the food is absolutely terrible unless you come on a Friday or Saturday night. When we first came here it was indeed a Friday, and my fiancé and I thought we had found the best Chinese buffet ever. All the food was fresh and steaming, plenty of variety of dishes to choose from, everyone left happy. The next time we came was a tuesday and OMFG it was sooooo so so bad. Everything was cold and old, except for the sweet n sour chicken which probably gets replenished often no matter the day. You could tell that instead of replacing the very old and stale food they opt to just throw the fresh on top and mix it in, most dishes they don't even do that, it's just all bad. You might be eating some beef and broccoli, thinking it's decent, only to have your next bite be tough, stale and overcooked. I can understand their flow of customers is much lower on weekdays and they need to stop loss but this is just ridiculously bad. Also they will eyeball you if you get your own drink or ice cream, I don't really know why. So yeah, if you're looking for a good china buffet on a Friday or Saturday, this place is good as any. Any other day, noooo way, go far far away.

They have a creamed spinach casserole that I love, also great calamari, many types of shrimp dishes, and a marvelous salad bar, in addition to many hot traditional dishes, like General Tsao's chicken, etc. This is my favorite restaurant, if I had to pick just one.

Discusting and gross. Restrooms should be reported to the health dept. One of the kitchen workers took a piss and went back to work without washing his hands. If you want the shits, it's the place to go.

went here a couple of days ago, and the only thing i managed to like was the stuff they didnt have to cook like their hawaiian salad and chocolate pudding. their chinese food was awful! their chicken was overcooked and it tasted a bit like shrimp. the staff was nice but im definitely never coming back again. of course, i wasnt expecting too much from a buffet, but i still wanted decency. i didnt get that here.

This is, by far, my favorite buffet that I've ever been too. They have wide selection of all different types of foods, but it's not the place to go if you're watching your weight! They do have a salad bar though. The sweet n sour chicken is amazing, so is the pizza, and roasted potatoes, fried shrimp and fish! They also have these little fried bun things that are like doughnuts coated in sugar, I ALWAYS make sure to get one when I go there :) The dessert table isn't so great, but they do have some good soft serve ice cream. It's about $9 a plate if you dine in, but if you get a plate to go they weigh it and it's SO much cheaper, like $3!! Only 4 stars because the bathrooms aren't very clean and you have to get and refill your own drinks, they don't serve you your drinks anymore.

Ok, let me start by saying, don't expect much from this place....AT ALL. It's a Chinese Buffet in McHenry folks. The food is ok, and the interior/decor could use some upgrades (especially the carpeting/floor). But, for the price of lunch ($9) and for the price of dinner ($10), you can't beat it, and that's why I'll keep coming back and that's also why I'm giving this place 4 stars. If price wasn't a factor in my rating, I'd give this place 2 or 3 stars.

If you are expecting a gourmet first class Meal at a Chinese buffet then you are going to be disappointed. If you know what you are getting yourself into eating at a buffet, then Grand Buffet is probably one of the best around. Staff is friendly and good options are plentiful. I have never been grossed out or uneasy about this place, which is easy to do at other buffets. Some unique offerings like peanut butter chicken (don't knock it til you Try it!) that make me keep coming back every couple months or so.

The food is ok. (I like the Thai chicken and pot stickers the most) And, the cleanliness of the dining area is acceptable, however the bathrooms are disgusting. I avoid them at all costs, but every time I've gone in there, it's just nasty. Toilet paper laying around and looked like it was trying to soak up something on the floor. It smelled. Dirty rags on the floor. Which makes we wonder about the cooking area. I'm having a hard time considering going back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
