This is my favorite place for seafood beside Red Lobster. They always have really good, fresh catfish. The shrimp...meh. That's why they lose a star. It's not bad by any means, but I hate biting into a shrimp and hitting that gritty, grey, poo vein. You know what I'm talking about. I've gotten the poo vein a few times. But oh, man. The french fries...THE FRENCH FRIES. They're SO GOOD. They knock any other fried potato out of the water. Do you remember how good Checker's fries were? Forget it. JJs fries rock my socks. Oh man. Excuse me. I have to call and make an order.

Restaurant Review Fried food galore! This past weekend while on call I ended up looking for comfort food to pass the time and ended up going all out with a 10 piece fried wing meal. This was definately a lot of greasy food, but the chicken wings were fried to perfection. The food appears to be made to order so there is a short wait time after ordering. My chicken wings were piping hot that they started to melt the inside of the styrofoam carryout box. The wings themselves were lightly coated with batter without any evidence of residual fat or chicken hairs which are gross. The lemon salt brings out a unique flavor that I cannot describe. For those who like spice, go ahead and dip it in the hot sauce with a little tang from the vinegar and moderate amount of heat from the cayenne peppers. There was also a healthy helping of fries and a small cup of cole slaw to sooth your taste buds. There appears to be a lot more fried food on the menu to try including fried oysters, fish, chicken tenders. The only ? is why don't they fry other parts of the chicken (breast, thigh, etc). Service is quick and overall friendly. The only issue here is with the small parking lot that is hard to get out of during busy times. Pro- hot made to order wings, fried to perfection Con- small parking lot hard to get out of, might be sketchy at night around this area Hidden deal- Sign up online for 10% off your next order. Daily meal deals about 6-7 dollars include main entree, fries, and a drink.

Great ,delicious , Jumbo shrimp best in the area! Very tasty! plus they add mild sauce or hot sauce whatever you prefer... For the kids they have a cool gumball machine and if you wanna sit and eat there you can dine in and watch tv. Delicious, fried up catfish.. I was very satisfied with my experience.

They are TOO EXPENSIVE for a fast/fried food place. I was picking up an order (100 wings, 50 fish). It was $162! Yes you read right, ONE HUNDRED, SIXTY TWO DOLLARS. This was for just meat. Unlike other locations, that cost much less, the order was sans fries, bread, or the occasional 2-liter others throw in for big orders. I would've understood this cost if I was across the street at Popeyes but places like this (Harold's, Sharks, etc) are known for much cheaper prices. On top of everything else, the food was blah...tasted like old grease. In fairness though, I will say that was the first time in 1 1/2 years that I've had food from this type of joint. I can do without, especially for their ridiculous prices.

The best fried shrimp i have ever had the pleasure to enjoy, chicken was very good too. All around fresh, hot, tasty food!

This place is really awesome. We passed it on the way home from the zoo once and stopped in to try it. The first thing I noticed are the endless options. The first visit I tried the gyro sandwich. It wasn't bad...nothing great. My girlfriend got the catfish which she liked. The portions are huge and enough for 2 people. Prices range from 5-12 per person depending what you get. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich this time around and it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. It was spicy hot but had mayo mixed in so it cut the hotness at just the right time. The sandwich is pretty much 2 sandwiches and 2 servings of fries. The neighborhood looks a little sketchy but I'm not from the area so it may not be bad. I didn't have any trouble. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a good meal!

I order from here on occasion. Their chicken has gotten noticeable better and the fish and shrimp are tasty. I don't like any of the sandwiches b/c they use hard french bread. When I am in the mood for fried fish or shrimp I might order from here.

The fried oysters are heavenly and so are the french fries. My only complaint is that they use low quality styro containers and the hot oil always burns holes in them, and we all know that burnt styrofoam releases toxic chemicals. I think they should consider using better quality containers.

I don't know what the other people are talking about. Maybe they haven't tried what I always order: Fresh Chicken Tenders Jumbo Shrimp Medium Shrimp Catfish Filets Tilapia Filets Can't forget the chicken wings. They've got Buffalo Wings, but I havent triend them yet. I love their cakes and desserts (even though they don't make them there). But because they're so busy the desserts and obviously the fish and chicken are ALWAYS FRESH!! BUT HONESTLY THIS PLACE IS ALWAYS RIGHT ON!!!

I was very skeptical of this place when they first opened up because of what used to be there...a nasty pancake house that eventually closed down. Since I had bad experiences at 2 other J&J Fish, I didn't want to risk being sick. My sister told me they had good and fresh food, so I gave it a try. The key to well-done food is to ask them to fry your food HARD, and specify HARD. The best time to go is in the evening after 5pm and night time, because the cook in the day time don't know what the hell he's doing!

so this place i went and ate and the next day i could not go into work because i had the runs, they totally messed my stomach up, my coworker walker thought it was hilarious because he use to eat there and he was like why would you even eat there. so now my coworker harper is sitting her like was it green, he so nasty

This is on of the best Chicken and fish joints in the city....the food is delicious and taste fresh...The only reason this place doesn't get a 5 from me is because they have messed up a few of my orders......

Pros: good chicken wings Cons: parking sucks Been here several times and always gets me full. Chicken wings stacked up on top a bed of fries w/ two pieces of white bread that catch the lemon pepper seasoning. I've tried the gizzards, chicken thighs and the perch before and were all good. Check this place out if your in the area. I do remember the 10pc wing dinner to be cheaper but i don't think they raised it so much that I'm going to stop coming here. Stop in and try it for yourself.

This is the best JJ Fish in Chicago. They are open late and the fish and chicken is always fried to perfection (not overcooked or undercooked). Only two complaints, first the bread below the fish always seems old, not fresh. Try keeping the bread closed so it will stay soft. Also, the chick with the attitude behind the counter. What can I do, just give her attitude back. On more than one occasion, I have witnessed her with an attitude towards the cashier, coworkers and customers who were not men. We women are always on the prowl. Get the scowl off your face!!! She will never stop me from getting my chicken and fish, LOL!!!!! Oh, side note the cakes are delicious also.

I was just telling a girlfriend at work yesterday that I have to give JJs a break. Recently, for a while, I was up in this joint twice a week. My last visit, a few weeks ago, I didn't have a problem with the fish but I HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE WHITE BREAD THAT IT WAS PLACED ON, IT STUNK LIKE OLD BREAD. PHEW! One major issue I do have with this place, I just remembered, in their creepy restroom, they don't have hand towels to dry your hands after washing (no dryer either).

JJ Fish - Maywood, is on my list when I get the Chicken Gizzard crave. Portions are generous and well packaged when you place a carryout order. About year ago or so they made the leap serving sandwiches such as Italian beef, Philly cheesesteak, gyros and more. I guess this was a strategic move to keep up with local businesses and the sandwich market. Plenty of dining room seating available and parking spaces. Staff is friendly and their are plenty of photos of their food to help you make your lunch decision.
