The staff was very friendly and the doughnuts were ok. Good to support the local shops in the community.

Kirby's has been in Manhattan FOREVER. We used to come in here as kids, and the workers were never very nice to us even though we were always on our best behavior. I went in there the other day to grab a dozen doughnuts as a thank you for my Vet's office, so I didn't eat any. It did seem a little "un-loved" and sad in there. I wish they would make it look nicer. I'm sure the doughnuts are still delicious, as most sugary treats are. Reasonably priced.

Nothing special about this bakery. The ladies never are smiling behind the counter. The sweets are good and reasonably priced. There is even a day old bread rack for 50% off! Fleckenstiens in mokena is better and more polite people.

I stopped in today to get a sandwich, I've been here many times and have always enjoyed their fresh deli sandwiches. Today however the experience was less than ideal. The sandwich was served on dry bread and it seemed like they really skimped on the ingredients. They used to pile the ingredients on and add fresh lettuce and tomato but today the sandwich was thin with some tired looking lettuce and one small slice of tomato. I asked for extra mayo but could hardly taste any. I also had a cream horn which tasted like it was all sugar and no 'cream'. I walked out paying about $8 and will not return. I'm still hungry!

A friend and I were biking from chicago down to a state park maybe 20 or 30 miles from Manhattan, IL. We stopped in Kirby's and asked what they're best donut was. The lady working there said the best one was whatever had just come out of the fryer, which at that moment happened to be some cake donuts, which they were icing with chocolate icing and sprinkles. It blew my mind. The flavor was great. Great donut. Even now thinking about it, what a great donut. We also got a couple sandwiches. The sandwiches were fine, nothing special. The service was pretty good the people were friendly enough. But those donuts were incredible. :)

The place is just Ok. Very mediocre desserts, nothing really special I think Jewel' s Bakery does a better job.

Mediocre at best. If you're looking for a great bakery that is relatively close to Manhattan, go to Fleckenstein's in Mokena. It's well worth the extra drive.
