I'm hanging out here for the Bears game - turns out it's awesome! Who knew? Free taco bar, and the bartender (Kyle) totally got my drink right - (kinda strong). Totally a hidden gem - they even have fancy food like ostrich burgers and duck tenders (but also while she'll peanuts for hours of messy fun). Seriously impressed, I'll definately be bringing friends here for my next game day. The manager was super nice too, he really seemed to care if we were all having a great time.

Decent service, no long wait on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, and the food comes fast. Would I make this my regular place or a special stop...I'm not sure. My main beef(pun intended) is that I ordered a "Top Drawer" burger, and tried their regular burger. The regular burger was much better. Much more flavorful. So there's absolutely no reason to pay $4 more for the "Top Drawer" burger. That being said, the burgers are good. The steak fries that I ordered with them were good too. The kids loved the Mini Mozzarella Sticks, and my son enjoyed his Creamy Mac and Cheese(regular mac and cheese, but it's his favorite). My husband ate most of his nachos, which came with chorizo(yum). The prices were reasonable too. The location is huge, nice sized dining room and bar area. Country House is sandwiched(there I go again with the puns) between Lisle and Naperville. It has a rustic and comfortable vibe that we all liked.

Absolutely horrible. Incredibly dated and just a dreary feeling inside. Food was very bland and my meal just did not sit right and caused me some stomach problems for a few days after. Will never return.

First time at the new location... While the new spot is nice... I'll miss the quirkiness of the old one... The tables are packed in even tighter than before... Very little room to navigate.. Now on to the reason for the one star... I ordered a burger, WELL done as I have issues with undercooked ground meat... When I received the burger it was RARE! Like barely brown on the outside falling apart rare... Nasty... I sent it back... They brought it back, cheese was icky from having been tossed back on the grill... And the thing was STILL pink! The manager I believe was the one who brought it back to me... Dumped it on the table and took off! No apology.. Didn't stay to let me check the temp... Nada! The server didn't apologize or check in either! Seriously?! I wasn't looking for a freebie... Although most of my family was done when I got my still undercooked burger... But at least acknowledge your glaring mistake politely... Geesh... Not sure we will be back...

**Go to the Clarendon Hills location!** I fell in love with the original Country House in Clarendon Hills. I tried going to this new location and had an awful experience. I ordered the Hot Pastrami. It usually comes shaved and sliced paper thin, fried up crispy and piled high on a pretzel bun. When I ordered it here in Lisle, it was cut in quarter inch thick slabs and was put on the bun cold and pink. When it was delivered to my table, I actually thought I was mistakenly given the wrong order. I asked if it could be warmed up and served hot and when it was returned to me, some of the meat portion had been removed, and it was barely warm. The chef delivered it with some attitude. I was disappointed. If you have a favorite menu item at one location, it should be the same at another! In the end, the meal was comped. I still love Country House, but I won't be back to this location.

The stripmall location doesn't bother me a bit. It's quite comfortable once you're inside. The service is good. Their problem is the food. We were going to order the wings but once we found out they were breaded I could no longer take them seriously. Since this place is known for their Burgers I ordered the mini Burgers off the appetizer menu. The bread was good but the patties were dried out extra well done hockey pucks. Is there an easier menu item to prepare than burgers? The nachos were a greasy mess. If they acted like they cared about their product this place could be fantastic. Their food is below average but if you're looking to slip away for a couple beers this place may suit you just fine. I can not recommend Country House for a nice meal. They've gone downhill since they moved to the Maple location.

I made an account just now. The whole reason is to write a review for this restaurant. My family usually eat out dinner at this place from time to time because it is close to our house. The quality of food, variety, and price range are OK. However, service was poor all the time. Today, we just went there and had lunch. The server was rude and careless. She didn't even ask for any needs or refill of drinks. She ruined our mood of weekend afternoon. So we decided not to come back this restaurant, instead of giving a manager feedback because they seemed to be not improved over time. So we think their business is done with us any more.

We looove the Country House in Clarendon Hills, but it's a bit of a hike from Naperville on a weeknight. I was pleased to learn they have a Lisle location and was eager to check it out! It's in a strip mall, but still tries to maintain the old-fashioned charm of the original location with lots of wood detailing and a dark interior. We got a to-go order and the hostess was pleasant, quick, offered us lots of additional accoutrements/silverware/etc., and even remembered that we got 10% off for ordering takeout on the night we came in and applied it to our bill for us! The food traveled well and was almost as good as our old standby location. Next time we'll eat in for the full experience, but for now, this is a delicious option for burgers when getting to the original Country House is not an option.

This is our second visit to this location. The new building in Lisle is much better than the old location. The service was good as our waitress was fairly attentive and recommended entrees for us. My boyfriend ordered a burger and I had a grilled chicken sandwich. The burger was slightly under cooked but he still are it. My chicken sandwich was dry but better over cooked than under! We will be back because the location is convenient.

This place was recommended to me some time ago, when I first moved to the area. I recall getting mediocre service the first time around, but I don't recall it being so bad that I'd never return. I returned for a late lunch on Friday. Upon our arrival, the place was still rather busy, but we didn't have to wait to get seated. My friend and I both ordered the buffalo burger. It's always great to see that on the menu, it's much healthier than a regular ol' burger. We had our choice of bread, I chose rye but I was disappointed to find it was regular ol' bread - toasted would have made it better so I ate some, left the rest. The burger came with a choice of side, I got a baked potato. The service was great, the food was too. I'll keep coming here because it's a nice cozy place to have a meal.

I ordered catering from Country House yesterday for a shower I was very pleased with the presentation of the mini sandwich tray all the sandwiches were fresh the homemade chips were fantastic and the orzo salad was superb the driver was on time and very professional I will recommend The Country House for any catering needs

I typically come for the burgers, but there are plenty of other decent options. Fair selection of beers and a laid back atmosphere. Tastiest burgeris probably the Top Drawer burger, but the Buffalo burger is my go to burger since it's a bit healthier. Heads up: They'll be relocating to a new location on Maple Ave (the former Big Apple restaurant location). Planned date is end of December 2014 or early January 2014.

This place just opened in our neighborhood so we thought we would call and place an order for pick up after working all day . The woman first said hang on I'm not sure if we are taking phone orders for another half hour ....its 7 pm ?? Um. Okay. She then returns to the phone and informs me that they aren't taking any phone orders!? Wow!! How incredibly rude and arrogant !!! We will never go there!!! Good luck if that's how they treat the locals!!! Lol With customer service like that... They'll never make it. I give it a year ..., I'll make sure I tell everyone about that .....

The new and improved Country House is FAR from new or improved! Awful! We have been faithful patrons to the old location. This new location is terrible. It took 45 minutes to get seated. The entryway is so cramped. Once sat, our waiter (Bryan) was awful! He was a shmuck. He was so slow. I had to ask one of the bus boys to refill my drink because the waiter could not be bothered. The food was less than good. We ordered an appetizer and it came out after our meal. After finishing our meal, it took close to half an hour to get a check. The waiter kept disappearing. Even after telling him we were in a hurry and needed to get home, he still took his sweet time. Where did the wonderful ladies that were the waitresses at the old location go? They were wonderful! This new staff is terrible. The place was cold (temperature wise) and the lights continually flashed. What we hoped would be a special night out to celebrate my dad's birthday ended up being a disaster. We won't be going back any time soon.

The NEW LOCATION on maple ave. in Lisle is NOW OPEN for lunch and dinner. (211/15) We stopped in for dinner. The first thing you notice is no smell of bicycle tires, nice. The menu is the same except they added smoked brisket since they have a new hardwood smoker. I heard someone mention that they will be adding more smoked items to the menu. The food was just OK as before. Nothing special. Our service was spotty. We had to repeat things to our server and he still got our order wrong. He had time to chat with other servers and other tables (regulars?) but didn't have the time to get our order right.

Absolutely freezing in this restaurant tonight--most patrons had their coats on. The set up of the Country House is bad--there is no protection from the front door and the cold air & wind just blows in. I think the heat was not working! The wait to get a table was 30-45 min--in an ice cold foyer! Now to the food, the fried shrimp was way too thick on the breading, even though the menu stated it was "light breading", the mac & cheese was similar to "Kraft"-type mac & cheese! The Pork sandwich had only a tiny amount of meat. All in all, not a good experience. The staff at the front desk need to be more efficient, they did not seem to be following the sign in list. (Actually, they were probably freezing!) If you are looking for a Country House experience, go to the Clarendon Hills location.

I was really curious about this place. I expected Cracker Barrel but I was majorly mistaken. I liked the atmosphere, dimly lit with a fire place in the bar area with saloon swinging doors and pictures of foxes if I recall. A small selection on tap but Bell's on tap was a surprise. The nachos were pretty decent and the bartender was very friendly introducing herself as well as asking our names. Pretty silly too. I'd definitely like to go back sometime and try the burger that I hear about. Not a bad place to go every once in a while to mix it up.

Country House is great! It's one of those great old places where you can throw peanut shells on the floor in the bar. The bar is separate from the dining room so there are no shells on the floor here. The burgers are a best bet but everything is good. Personally I am in love with the grilled cheese. They serve steak cut fries which are delicious. Pickles are awesome. They have a great house salad which is always fresh. All in all great food!

Not sure why all the negative reviews of the new restaurant....I stopped in with a friend a couple weekends back, and we couldn't figure out what the problem was. It's a new location....I'm not a fan of waiting, but a lot of people want to go here. If you come in on a Saturday during peak times, expect to wait a bit. The burgers were, as always, great....the top drawer burger (I think that's what it's called) is easily their best option. In addition, they get extra points for having some lighter options that my wife can actually eat. There's free peanuts at the bar, and the wings made for a pretty good appetizer. In regards to the drinks, the Country House Red Ale is my go to option here....prices on drinks are average for the area. Service (a big complaint on a lot of reviews of the new place) was FINE. Not to be a jerk, but you come to a restaurant that is jam PACKED and expect A+++++ service it's not going to happen. Our server did a fine job considering the amount of tables she had. Thanks for moving even closer to me, Country House. You're now within walking distance, which is a huge plus. I'll keep coming back, and if there is a half hour wait I'll grab a drink at the bar instead of standing around complaining about the wait.

The only reason I give it two stars vs one is because the interior was pretty interesting. Other than that it's not worth going to. The menu is only one page, double sided. The prices for the entrees are on the higher side. And our waitress was not really that nice. She started out nice but soon after had a 'just doing my job' attitude. It was definitely not a great place to go. The French dip sandwich was ok, but nothing to write home about. The fries are thick cut which is great. So I give them a plus for their fries. And we didn't have to wait long to be seated. So that's another plus. My call: go and don't expect the best in choice and service, or go somewhere else where you know you'll get what you want and be happy there.

Strip mall surprise. From the outside you would not expect the rustic cozy atmosphere. Step into this place and you feel like you are in a country house. Check out the boar's head in the bar - cool. The Country House has been been voted as the best burger in Chicago area. It's pretty darn good. The buffalo burger is great. This place serves one of the best burgers that I have ever had. Great ruben sandwiches, too. Big portions. Good quality. Yummy food. Check it out.

I love the casual, family-friendly, vibes. Good burger, too. The fries stood out to me, as well, as did the atmosphere in itself. When we were lost at the wrong end of the state, once when I was like nine, we saw Country House and immediately pulled over (even though it was a different location). We found our way home after a "light" meal. The restaurant is good for kids, and adults, and whole families, so, I wouldn't worry about having your meal ruined by opposite ends of the extreme... If that last phrase made sense?

Went there because of the Yelp recommendation. I was not disappointed. Tasty burgers, good bar, looks like hell from the outside. I will definitely be back. Any place with Fat Tire is ok with me.

I have been visiting Country House (Lisle) for several years, their burgers are fantastic. Unfortunately, recently at their neew location, I tried twice in good faith to actually get seated and have a nice dinner with my wife. Instead, I came up empty handed both times and actually never ate. Why? When they moved to the new location, they apparently left their brains behind. Their focus is not about treating customers well, but about conforming to an arcane and ridiculous set of "rules". This past valentines day, we arrived as a "walk in" and were told we had to wait about 2 hours for a table. No problem, so I went home briefly to pick something I had forgotten and returned in about 15 minutes. When I returned, I was rudely told my name was called and lost my spot in the wait order. I said that they should not tell people a 2-hour wait, then call them in 10 minutes. When I looked around and the place was about 3/4 full....lots of empty tables near the windows and perimeter. I asked for one of the empty tables, but was told "sorry those are reserved". I saw at least a dozen tables empty. I was told to come back in 2 more hours when the place would have some openings. So, we left. We figured they were seriously disorganized and decided to return the next day (Sunday) early...oh about 5:30-6pm. However, when we returned on Sunday I decided to order as take-out. About a minute after placing the order, we decided to eat in, but the young woman behind the desk refused to seat us! After (some arguing, we were seated in the worst seat in the place - smack in the middle of the entry-way where everybody was walking. But again, we saw several (dozen?) empty tables and asked for one, but was given a really sarcastic remark by the young greeter. We spoke with the manager on duty - don't recall his name - but instead of helping us out, just said their "rules" are they don't give away "reserved" tables. The manager simply agreed with the cocky greeter said there was nothing he could do. We told him to keep the order and we left. My take away on all this was the Manager seemed preoccupied with reserved seating and server "rules" which is new - Country House never had reserved seating as far as I knew...this is a hamburger pub, not the Fairmont hotel downtown. Even worst, the manager and his front desk staff (most, but not all) treat walk in customers as idiots. There is another Lisle restaurant (Italian) that just migrated to a new location and they started treating their customers in an arrogant way; many people noted this in Yelp. I won't name the restaurant here, but unfortunately, this Country House location is bringing a formerly good restaurant down the same path. I give them another year or two of this behavior before they lose most of their customers. Last and foremost, I don't give my business to jack-wagons.

Suppposibly (sic) the best burger in Chicago in 2007... ...wasn't 2007 the year mad cow disease hit? Must have been because there isn't anything special here. Burger is adequate, my wife's fish was way overcooked. The average age of diners was 157. Won't be coming back.

I've only been there once but definitely worth several trips back. I had the country burger and it was delicious! I am glad there's such a great burger joint in the Naperville area and look forward to the next time!

We are in the process of trying every single restaurant in this plaza as it is the perfect location for our Sat. one hour lunch break between morning activities and afternoon Chinese classes for kids. I really liked the entry of the restaurant, all woody and retro. Kids liked inside as well. We sat at the dinning area for lunch. And I felt we were kind of odd balls in the crowd. By that, I meant we were a noisy Asian crowd with young kids in the middle of quite senior people. I heard this place is known for burgers. If you know me, I pretty much only liked mushroom burger or the sliders from Gibson's. Just to warn you that my opinions on burgers could be biased. I struggled a long time with the menu then decided on the mini burgers. Kids were having hot dogs, grilled cheese, and the fried shrimp. Another mom was having the turkey burger. My mini burger were fine. Those were better than the turkey one which I tried a quarter. I like the choice of fruit bowl instead of the fries. The fries were much bigger cuts than the regular ones. Kids like their meals. We only have the half of the Grilled cheese as the left over. The services were decent. The crayon were brought to table for kids. The part I didn't like is that their kids meal doesn't include the drink. And they charged $2 for kid's beverage and didn't even offer refill. With choices of lunch nearby, Country house is a bit expensive for our lunch stop without significant different on the quality for me.

Had a really good Muffaletta sandwich at the Country House. The French onion soup was not very good. Still excited to try more options next time.

The new location IMO is better than the old one where I always felt like I was eating in a basement (no windows). I got the regular 1/2 lb hamburger with sweet potato fries ($1 extra). The burger was good, as were the fries but I did expect more fries than what was put on the plate. It also came with a "sampling" of coleslaw. The Buffalo Burger that one of my dining partners had was very rare although it was ordered medium well. For a place that is known for their burgers, I would think they would have the doneness down to a science. The Tortilla soup must have been from the last of the pot since it was mostly tomatoes and chicken stock. The noise level was conversationally challenging. Service was good. Peanut allergy sufferers should be aware that in some areas (all?) of the restaurant they have peanuts in the shell available with shells ending up on the floor. I was not aware of any allergy warning signs but I could have missed them. Country House in Lisle was OK, but I don't think I'd be in a big hurry to go back. There are equal if not better offerings nearby.

Ordered the buffalo wings, onion rings and potato skins for appetizers. Appetizers were just ok and the potato skins were just potato wedges (about 1/4 of a whole potato). To eat I ordered the pulled pork, I can never pass up a pulled pork sandwich, this is where the restaurant really starts to shine. The pork was perfectly smoked and the sauce was a mixture of a traditional Carolina bbq and Texas Sauce. The sauce has the tang of traditional Carolina with the slight kick of Texas sauce. Light in consistency, but dark in color. Overall the food was pretty ok, but the actual bbq was amazing.

I hate writing this review! I have been a regular customer for year at both location. Tonight my wife and I decided to try out the new Lisle location. What a mistake we made! 45 minute wait for a list of five people. The lady behind the desk was rude and spent more time ruffling through papers than assisting patrons. There were several open tables yet they took their sweet time seating customers. The teenage hostess kept telling everyone that the bar area was first come dialect serve. A lot of people walked to the bar. The didn't seem to have a PA system to notify patrons that their tables were ready. Total chaos and disorganization. This place did a fantastic job of losing two regulars tonight! Sad!

We waited a couple months to try it again. I want it to succeed so bad, as it is so close to our house and I really enjoy the menu. Unfortunately not much has changed. We didn't walk out this time so I guess it was much better, on second thought. The hostesses still seem lost. The 2 managers we saw walking around are either inept or lack any sense of urgency. The food took forever. The table next to us asked twice to have the air conditioning adjusted. We almost stood and applauded since we were freezing. The server responded " I told the manager but you know we are very busy" She really said that!! I had the house smoked brisket sandwich with cole slaw. The brisket was tough and lacked any smoked flavor. If this is truly smoked here they should consider buying the packaged product. The cole slaw was good and is available at Costco. They did a great job of scooping it. I wonder if Costco has brisket? One trip for both products. I did see a guy walking in from the store with a bottle of margarita mix. I know Costco has that too. Another crazy thing- the lights above the booths went out and our dining room lights kept flickering. We discovered the light switches keep getting hit as the servers come around the corner. Great design. My wife enjoyed the turkey burger. My daughter had the French dip that she described as ok. The digital sign outside is displaying "Now hiring all positions" but lacked the critical position needed- new leadership. Please get it together.

I used to go to the old location once in a while in Lisle that was a lot smaller and liked that place too. The new facility that just opened is not only huge, but has a wonderful setup! I am very impressed with the new additions tooI. I ordered one of my favorite burgers at the bar and it was just as delicious as ever. The bartender and what looked to be the assistant manager were extra attentive in making sure that my food was perfect as well as my drinks were refilled. With the new atmosphere, I think this might be my new spot when I come back in town from California to see my family.

We have been going to this Country House location ever since they opened in the mid-80s. And, honestly, neither the decor nor the menu has changed since then. I suppose there is no point in messing with a good thing - no complaints here :). While the food isn't anything really fancy, it is just good, solid food. The specials tend to be good as well as the burgers (I really like the fish 'n' chips and the Guiness beef stew) and a nice beer washes everthing down nicely. I usually end up heading over here at least once when I am in town since it is tasty, inexpensive, and quick without being fast food.

I really, really dug this place. It's in a strip mall, but the entrance to the place is set to look like an old wood bar or saloon. The inside feels the same. You can sit in a dark, musty bar or you can go past to the hostess stand to sit in a small dining room, all wood-clad, with old antique-y alphabet pictures on the wall. All topped with a lit candle on the table (I think it was a fake candle but whatever). We googled "best burger" and there you have it: Country House has the best burger apparently. Their website is even burgerone.com because they have been voted Reader's Choice #1 Burger in the western suburbs by Western Suburb Living for 10 years in a row. I'm not going to lie...it's a pretty darn good burger. I just got the Country Burger, which may sound kind of plain, but well worth it. Make sure you request the grilled onions, you get a good amount of them. It was large...seriously, it was on a huge bun without the bun overtaking it. Tasty. Juicy. Flame broiled. This is burger goodness. It's a legit burger without being overcomplicated...I know that fancy, different burgers are all the rage now (I saw one with peanut butter and bananas recently...still don't know how I feel about that). And believe me, I love the unique burger rage. But it was nice to go back to basics with this burger. It did not disappoint. My husband was thrilled with this burger..."Now THAT'S how you make a burger!" is what he exclaimed. We started out with the duck tenders, which are also noteworthy. I liked the flavor of the dark meat breaded and fried. The sauce it came with was a little too tart for me, but hubs liked it a lot. It was something different, I would recommend these. Service was good, considering it was 4th of July and they could've been super grouchy. The food also came out fast. In and out, with a smile :)

Only went to the bar so can't say too much about the restaurant part except that I heard the burgers were good. They can make a very nice dirty martini and the prices are just ... Wow. Maybe I've been out of the Midwest for too long but I felt like I needed to stock up on dirty martinis here or something. The floor is littered with peanut shells which make a delightful crunchy noise when you step on them. (I was initially put off by the idea of people just throwing garbage on the ground until I discovered the delightful crunchy noise.) The bartender lady has that weathered "I've been around the block, honey, don't tell me what to do" look which I admire and is observant enough to keep everyone in the bar happy. No sad empty glasses in this bar!

Not good. Steak quesdillas was dry. Rice was mush. Duck tenders were good. Bloody Marys were good for me. Our friends had the steaks which were over cooked and the one Bloody Mary for my friend made "not spicy" was the same as the regular made that I had. We had the valpak coupon for $5 off. We ordered the food off the regular menu and the waitress was in my boyfriend's face saying she couldn't accept it when I ordered the bloody marys saying it wasn't valid on alcohol even though we had $20 worth of food on our tab. Our friend, a lawyer, and my boyfriend went in to talk to the manager and he accepted the coupon without a problem. We won't be going back. No need to pay for someone yelling at us like that.

The Clarendon Hills Country House-- the spooky shack on 55th Street -- is my favorite for many reasons: eerie atmosphere, great food, and a resident ghost. The Lisle Country House just doesn't measure up. For one, it is in a strip mall--can't call it a house. Inside, the food and service is average. Let's start with the food. On a positive note, I have ordered the Country Burger here many times and it's always good. The Country House chars its burgers just enough on the surface. This gives the meat a nice smoky taste. The burger itself is substantial as well. Diners have the unique option of ordering it on dark rye bread or a sesame bun. Since I'm pretty conventional, I stick with the sesame bun. I also order mine medium with lettuce, tomato, and raw onion. The burger has never disappointed me- not here or at the Clarendon Hills location. On this particular occasion, I ordered it with a side of coleslaw. Normally, I choose the French fries or onion rings. They gave me about fifty pounds of coleslaw. It was too creamy for my liking; I prefer crispier coleslaw. While the Lisle Country House gets the burger right, they need to work on everything else. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer, and it was nothing special. Anyone could have prepared the same nachos at home. They put cheese (not much), tomato, black olives, and bits of Chorizo sausage on ordinary chips. It was dry and boring. Also, my dining companions were let down by their entrees. One ordered the Hot Pastrami sandwich with French fries. The Hot Pastrami sandwich is served on a thick pretzel bun and the meat is always very rich-- both great features. What makes this item over-the-top amazing is the Honey Dijon mayonnaise. Unfortunately, my dining companion did not receive a side of Honey Dijon mayonnaise. I'm not sure if the server forgot it, or if the person preparing the food just didn't know the menu well. My other dining companion did not receive part of her entree either. She ordered the Tuscan Chicken Salad, excited it came with garlic bread. However, they forgot the garlic bread. The lettuce in her salad tasted soggy and old. Our whole meal-with the exception of the Country Burger--was a flop. I thought the server needed more training. For one, he forgot to bring parts of my dining companions' orders. He should have checked that he had all parts of the orders, or given an explanation why he did not. Further, he brought the entrees while we were still eating the appetizer. This was a bit inconvenient, as we had to wolf down the nachos and try to make room for our plates. He seemed clumsy and was not very friendly or engaging.

I liked that place because the people are really nice, the food was awesome and the restrooms were really nice. and are awesome. I had the kids cheeseburger and my mom was able to get something healthy, a veggie burger with avacado and a side of steamed veggies.

After only going to the Clarendon Hills location I thought I'd give this place a try. Went on a Friday night (During Lent). My b/f had the all you can eat fried fish, and I had the southwest chicken wrap. Their wrap just wasn't the same as the other location. It's made the same way but the chicken is where it didn't meet my expectations. They used little cube pieces of chicken, the other location uses chicken strips. I had the sweet potato fries, they were practically room temp. My b/f liked his fish and hushpuppies. Their menu is slightly different then the other location. We didn't go to the bar section so I can't comment on that. I think it's nice that the bar is separate from the dining area. With a coupon I'd go back. Otherwise I'll stick with the Clarendon Hills location.

The new country house, they moved from their old location, they are now one block east of Naperville Road on Maple Avenue. The ambience of the new restaurant is nothing like the old one, the old restaurant was way nicer. In the main dining room every time somebody comes in the front door everyone can feel the cold coming in. At 5:30 in the evening that door was opening a lot, and was not very pleasant always feeling the chill. On Fridays they have all-you-can-eat catfish, I think it came out of a box already breaded and frozen ( not 100 % sure ) but it was very good, you have your choice of many sides dishes and it is all you can eat. for $11.00 bucks I thought it was worth it. All of the food coming out of the kitchen looked very good portions look big. Our bill without tip was $47 for two fish fries and two drinks. I am only rating this restaurant Three stars because it seemed the restaurant was just missing something, and the cold draft you feel every time the door opens. The food is very good and portions are big. The service was very good. Would I go back Yes !!!! The Naperville Food Dude To the owners of the country house, may your new restaurant and location bring you many years of success and happiness, as your old location did.

Not thrilled. An unidentifiable sharp piece of plastic was found in my food. I actually swallowed some before spitting it out. Comping the plastic meal wasn't enough to make amends.

The food was tasty, but the waitress refused to honor my parents' senior discount because the turkey sandwich I ordered was apparently a "special" and thus couldn't be combined with a senior discount. The sandwich isn't a normal menu item and it's not like I got some amazing deal on it. Seriously? How cheap is that? Is it worth alienating a customer to reap that extra 15 percent? Oh, and this refusal came after she told me my parents didn't look 65 - not in a flattering way, but a totally suspicious one. (Yes, they're over 65.)

I don't know how they can charge $15 for a mediocre burger. Portillo's are a third the price and much better and no I don't have any affiliation with Portillos. On the plus side County House steaks are very good.

So far so good. I've only come here once because we had no idea what to eat and decided lets see what's close. Once we saw the menu, we realized that this place was a chain in a few other locations. I had a sandwich, which I'm totally blanking on what I had but I substituted the sides for veggies. It was good. It was something with cheese and salami. My bf had the wurst combo. It was interesting and yummy. I'd go again. They had about 2 or 3 servers on a Monday night and ours was good. We did have to ask for silverware and napkins to eat. It took a while to get it... after we got our appetizer. Unfortunately we were in a rush to go somewhere and were hoping everything would come out at once. The portions are large so we both ate about half and boxed the rest and ran out to make due time. Overall, I'm a fan... can't wait to try some beer next time. I saw Candice's review and wondered if they just serve peanuts with beer or if you have to order them.

It breaks my heart to share this review. We have frequented the old lisle restaurant as well as Geneva and the food has always been phenomenal. We just finally made it to the new location, and to say we left disappointed was an understatement. The food was still quite good, but the service was terrible. Bryan ignored us for the first 10 min after we were sat. It took about 45 min to get our food (burgers), and then our drinks were empty for another 20 min (filled by a different waitress). During the time we were sitting there, we witnessed 3 other tables being ignored by this waiter and one group even get up and leave. It didn't help that the teenage hostesses were glued to their cell phones! I don't know that we will ever go back to this location, sad since it is so close to us. We would consider ordering and taking out bc the food is great! Overall a Bad experience.

I used to live near the Clarendon Hills location and frequented that Country House almost once a week. Because I recently moved to Naperville, I thought I should give this location a try. (Plus, a friend of mine had a bogo burger coupon.) In the end, the food was the same but the set-up did not match up. I still loved the burgers here. I always order the bison burger on rye with cheddar grilled onions and a side of sweet potato fries. (Although I do wish these were the potato wedge more than the shoe string type.) I appreciate the variety of meat, toppings and sides. What makes the Hills location better is the separate building within a "haunted house" (rather than this one attached to a strip mall where I can see people buying bikes). I just like the character there because it has more of a united, centralized feeling between the bar and the restaurant.

Came in on a snowy Friday, to a full bar and a 2/3 empty dining room. The staff was incredibly friendly and service was excellent. I signed up for the loyalty program and look forward to lots of rewards/points/discounts! We ordered a starter, the poblano bites: breaded and fried poblanos and jalapenos stuffed with black beans, corn, and cheese with a side of sriracha dip. MMM. Their iced tea is fresh brewed and very tasty. For my entree I ordered the ostrich burger, my first one! I asked for the gluten free bun, pepper jack cheese, and sweet potato fries as a side. The bun is a little small but tasty, the ostrich burger was juicy, thick, and amazing. The pepper jack cheese was placed in a cute design on top of the patty. The sweet potato fries weren't too thin or crunchy, they had a good bite and flavor and weren't oversalted. Just perfect for me. I forgot to eat my pickle :( It looked really crispy and was a great fresh green color. He ordered the fish and chips. The fish came shaped in squares and looked really juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. He ordered a beer that came in a tall fancy glass. They have a great selection of beers, both bottled and draft. I don't drink beer so I didn't look too closely. We shared an Upside Down Carmel Walnut Apple Pie with ice cream that was really delicious, if a little messy. Would have it again in a heartbeat. I love nuts in my desserts. We didn't have a problem finding parking up front.

I thought I would give this Country House a try since it not too far from our house. I called in a pick up order for a Buffalo burger with grill onions, American cheese, on a bun with fries. When I got there was no where to real park. Then I walk in to the hostess station and the girl ask if I could wait (no problem it's a Saturday night, then are going to be busy is my though) well they got my order wrong, they had a cheese burger not a buffalo burger. So the other woman went to go check to change it for me. Just waiting for my food, the one girl seem new. When I got my order, I was so hungry that I just pay and went home. When I got home, the bun was throw on top of the burger, I had raw onions and it was over cook! I was looking forward to a good burger after a 2 hour workout. I think then should move the take out away from the hostess station or have someone a third person there just doing take out. The hostess stand was disorganize. I had been to the old location and it was wonderful.

This place is open til 1am, but no food available. Bar only? Is this not a restaurant? Walking in there are two sides to this place the bar side and the restaurant. The restaurant side no one was in, but there was no one there to tell us they were closed. The boy and I walked over to the bar side and they just kinda stared at us and never said a word. I asked a busboy who told us the kitchen was closed. Get it together y'all!

First experience tonight. Excellent service. Totally old-school and a little throwback joint in the middle of a strip mall right near my house. I love this strip mall, so naturally I needed to try this place that I see MANY people going to on a daily basis. Place was packed for a Wednesday night! Brought the chunk and they provided a highchair and a really nice server. We ordered and enjoyed our meals-- veggie burger made in house! Wowzers! Buffalo burger, lots of side options. Being a vegetarian, I just get plain excited when ANY place caters to vegetarians by serving something creative that doesn't come out of a Morningstar box I could buy at Dominick's. It wasn't the very best I'd ever had in veggie patties, but I'd definitely order it again! I can't speak to the meat-- probably what the majority of people go to eat, but I thought it worked for our interests. Buffalo is a lean meat and the husband liked his burger. Our little nuggeto was hungry while waiting for his chicken strips to arrive, and the nice server brought over some veggies from the soup they offer to feed him in the meantime. It's the little things. He loved them and we were thankful she went out of her way and cared. We see ourselves going back to this joint and bringing the kiddos over their lives. Location can't be beat for us either. And might as well stop by my fave bakery on the way out... and yes. We totally did.

It is probably accurate to say the bar here detracts from the comfortable family ambiance but there are some good values to be had. Look for fresh mussels on Monday that are a fun appetizer and Oysters on Tuesday served with a big pint of Guinness. Country House probably most resembles the "working man's" bar of the 70's and 80's but the pork chops are seasoned well and a good value and the apple walnut pie is a classic and cheap comfort food served with coffee and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. If you like the option of bringing a small group together to talk quietly, Country House is a good value with Dead Guy Ale on draft and a kitchen that is usually open until 9 PM. They will also serve dessert a little later if you ask nicely. Not everyone's cup of tea and really that is fine. A good value in a quiet place isn't for everyone.

Ask anyone- If I were a character from Peanuts, I'd without a doubt be PigPen. My hair's always a mess, my clothes are rarely ever clean, and most of my male friends headed toward the bald side. So naturally, a bar that allows me and the rest of the Peanuts gang to throw actual peanut shells on the ground is going to win me over. #SimpleThings Also, they usually have some sort of Bell's or Allagash offering sooo I can get down with that. A lot of the other beer offerings are a little more, errrm, domestic? Watery? I dunno, I just don't get down with that. If I'm paying for a beer I'd like to taste it is all I'm sayin'. I've heard they have good food (specifically the burgers) but I've yet to make it in during kitchen hours- they even have some veggie options. The other thing I really like about the place is the ambiance. It's like a 70s Porn Set Saloon. And well, ya just can't go wrong with that.

We started the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend with a stop to a favorite local bar and burger place walking distance from home. It was packed as expected for "black Wednesday" or whatever they call the busiest bar night of the year. We just wanted to catch the Michigan bball game and eat a good burger. It's an awesome place to hang out and even more so if you can snag the table in front of the fire place. It's definitely similar to scene out of "Cheers" where everyone knows your name (or that of the person next to you) and the peanut shells flow freely to the floor. I suppose even bars in the suburbs can have some fun :) The beer was great and our service was attentive but everyone's burger seemed to be missing a step. Perhaps the excessive crowd overwhelmed the kitchen a bit though one would expect that on Thanksgiving weekend. We started with a pretty good spinach dip with tasty pita chips. I thought they short changed us on dip but that's because it was so tasty. The burger menu at Country House is simple yet sophisticated. You can go simple and plain, or opt for buffalo, ostrich (my choice), veggie or turkey. I love the idea of ordering a non beef meat for a burger for the health benefits (or less bad). But the ostrich burger was pretty bland a little over cooked. I ordered without cheese but good meat and seasoning should still prevail. Oh well. It's still a fun place and has "Chicago's Favorite Burger" so I bet it was an off night. Looking forward to the next trip for a beer and burger next to the fireplace.

I've been to the Country House in Lisle many few times over the years and the one in Geneva just once. I think that I can fairly summarize my findings by saying that THIS IS PRIMARILY A BURGER PLACE. If you go off course at all from burgers, then you are likely to be disappointed. Don't be fooled by the many selections on the menu, burgers are there real only strong suit. Grease is cheap, and this place knows how to wield that commodity. Apart from food, I do like the hokey wood-filled atmosphere and softer lighting. The floors are beautiful. They serve dinner until 10:00 p.m., so that factored into my decision to go there. I was there last Thursday evening, at the Lisle location, at just about 8:45, with a friend. Given some dietary restrictions, I have limited choices. However, rather than go the burger route, I decided to get a full rack of the short ribs. The place was devoid of customers except for the regulars at the bar. I have to say that the server, a woman, was only somewhat attentive to us. Given the funhouse maze of the interior of the place, it can be difficult to signal someone when you need that refill or extra napkin. Our entrées came within twenty minutes. The ribs were liberally slathered with their barbecue sauce and crammed onto a longer sort of plate. I can say that it was a generous portion. On the side was a small doggie bowl size container of even more of the barbecue sauce, which was unnecessary. The ribs had a strong gamey and ammonia like taste that was not quite masked by the sauce. The potato, streak fries, were on par for the evening--not great and not horrible. The salad before the meal was big enough and even tasty. I generally order ribs at The Patio in Bolingbrook. Not once have they ever been gamey or gross smelling. The quality is consistent and the texture firm and meaty. The ribs at Country House just did not live up to that standard. The server threw us a an occasional smile, but consistent with other visits, the servers at the Lisle location always seem a little bedraggled and feisty. The bathroom was clean, but for gosh sakes, way too small for the size of the place. One must walk in sideways and pray that you're alone. In summary, I'd say that if you have another option for dinner, or lunch, then grab it. Country House is only good for those times when nothing else is open and you don't feel like driving in search of better food.

Old people go to Country House, as I noticed on my first visit. So you know the food has to be good. I had the steak sandwich on garlic bread with mozzarella and peppers. Now this is a meat - and grease - lover's dream. I really liked this, and it's out of my comfort zone compared to what I usually order (I considered the turkey/apple/brie panini). There were a few bits of fat on this sandwich I had trouble chewing through though. My fiance had the buffalo burger, I had a small bite. Very tender meat. Again, if you're a meat lover and if you're best friends with Wimpy or the Hamburglar, try this. Potato skins were smothered in cheese, and you can sub onion rings for fries for no extra charge.

Shoot... I really wanted to love this place since it's so close to home... Ate here Sat night 08/25/12 and am so disappointed! The dining room was full when we arrived so we opted to eat in the bar rather than wait. The staff at the door were nice enough but smiles were almost nonexistent. Now for the food. The other reviewers tended to give kudos to the burgers and fries so my DH and I tried something different. I started off with the black bean and sausage soup which was served with sour cream - it was really good although a little salty. DH had a bowl of chili which was pretty darn good too. So far so good we thought! For my meal I had the steak sandwich with mushrooms on toast points and a baked potato. Oh dear... not good. The steak was really dry (no, I didn't order it well done!) and the mushrooms tasted like they were from a can. The baked potato was just ok. DH got the knockwurst plate and it was kind of flavorless. So we ended up paying $43 bucks before tip for a forgettable meal - all we had to drink was iced tea. I know, not an outrageous sum, but when we only enjoyed the soup and chili, a disappointment. We are going to go back another time and give the burgers and fries a shot and will give an update.

I cannot tell you how many times I have eaten here and it has progressively gotten worse over the years. Nothing special and the corned beef and cabbage they served for St. Patrick's Day was possibly the worst I have ever had. It is better now that it is non-smoking, but still in need of a MAJOR over haul. Tables are much too close together to be able to enjoy a comfortable meal.

We have lived in the area for a long time, and used to come here quite often. Came here last night with neighbors, and I don't even look at the menu - just order the same thing... Country Burger - medium - dark rye - everything - steak fries - Well, I noticed these issues.... - the dark rye is way too thinly sliced vs years ago when it was thicker & could actually hold the burger. - the steak fries were not done enough, a little under-cooked - the wait staff didn't really come back and ask for refills, needs, dessert, etc.. - lastly, a friend and I were studying the photo/map in the lobby - been there for years, and we had trouble orienting ourselves until we finally realized that North was to the left and NOT at the top - dumb - - of course the mint-ball machine was moved from the desk area a couple years ago, and now charge 25 cents.

We have tried to get in at the Clarendon Hills location, only to find waits over an hour and not place to park in that pitted out lot of gravel off of 55th and Clarendon Hills Rd. So, this time we drove out to Lise and went with my husband's sister and her husband, who actually live right behind the Lisle Country House. The Burgers are the very best! Could compete with the Hackney Burger for sure. I also was starving so I ordered the fried clam appetizer and it was really freshly cooked to order and delicious. All three at my table ordered the slider appetizers for dinner and they were awesome for an appetizer! I ordered the tradtiional cheeseburger, Medium, with Cheddar Cheese on dark rye with all the trimmings. I also opted for a baked potato over French Fries. I am hungry for one as I am writing this! Have to go and get your burger fix here! Everything so fresh and nice family atmosphere. I also happened to see some plates of shrimp and cod flying by me and OMG that's what I would have on a Friday in Lent for sure!

Id have to agree with a previous yelper that this place is on the way down. We have been coming here the last 3 years but this will be the last. Started it off with not so friendly hostesses. Was not impressed with the food at all. Food was barely 1 star. I could have done better at home. The specialty pork chop dish was not special. It was oversalted and was not set aside to rest before it was served. The fries were cold and the apple sauce was rancid. It was spoiled. How does that happen? The server was helpful and got another but it was served a little on the warm side. The Kentucky bourbon steak was just ok. Well cooked to medium rare but had a taste of being old meat. not worth the price The best part was our helpful server Kris (or chris). Only reason I gave it a star Hard to find place in the corner of the strip mall You guys need to do better Again if you had a choice try somewhere else

Oh YUM. I love this place. If we are in the burbs this is often a place we consider eating at. It's sort of hidden in the shopping mall - but worth the find. I love there pretzel rolls! My husband always orders a burger - and we have not been disappointed. I really like the fries they serve too! The service is good, clean, and friendly. A nice small neighborhood place.

I usually head to Clarendon Hills but this was my first outing in Lisle. Being lent and not eating bread I opted for the Country Burger with no bun. What else but the house burger would you get when it was the 1/2 off special on Monday?? Fries were fine, beer was cold, service was nice and efficient. Well done! Two old buddies had burgers and a total of 4 beers for just over a $20, can't beat it! Nice people. I would give them 5 stars but I asked for a baked potato and got fries. Didn't matter, I was ok with fries so all way good!

This place is perfect. I have been going here since I was a little kid and upon moving back into the area I made sure I came back here. Amazing burgers, great service, solid specials, and nothing has changed at all over the years. Still the exact same as I remember it. That is rare these days where every place is coming up with new formulas and recipes to entice new customers. Country house continues to bring the same delicious winning style that I have grown accustomed to.

Love the Country House! We come here often, sometimes on week nights, usually on weekends. The drinks aren't badly priced, the food is really delicious, and we come there often enough that we've got a nice rapport going with the staff. I find the atmosphere quite cozy, even though it's tucked in a strip mall with a view of the parking lot. They light the fireplace in the colder months, hog's head on the wall so it really does feel like a country house. Free popcorn and/or peanuts at all the tables too. They have some high tops, otherwise there's the seating at the bar. Music is mostly jukebox. If you're looking for a nice-looking, hip bar, this isn't the place. I'd say most of the patrons are closer to 30s-40s-50s (we're almost always the youngest ones there) but it feels almost like a cabin and it's a nice homey feel for us.

Went here for tuesday night dinner with my family. First off I love the atmosphere here. They have a lodgy feeling to the resturant that makes it kind of a fun place to go for dinner. The menu here has a good selection of comfort foods and a few interesting additions. They have Ostrage and buffalo burgers. For appitizers we decided to have the tavern cheese and I had a bowel of baked french onion soup. The soup here was very good and served nice and hot :) It had a nice helping of melted cheese on top as well and is one of the better bowels I have had. The Tavern cheese was also quite tasty and I really enjoyed the horseraddish kick it had. For dinner I had the buffalo burger. The burgers here are great and served with a nice piece of cheese on them. The buffalo burger is a bit drier then the regular burger but is much healthier and has great flavor. All in all the food here is really good and I recomend it if you are in the area.

Very good for standard, buffalo, and ostrich burgers. Pork chops are also very good. Typically crowded / overcrowded any weekend evening, but great for lunch. Always does well on best of suburban burger polls. Tables are very close together. Kind of a grandfather's summer cabin look to the decor. Rough wood paneling with pictures that seem like they came out of a school house 100 years ago. (The R is for rooster variety) The food is consistently tasty so if you haven't been here you should put it on your list.

Fan-effin-tastic burger. The kiddos and I met up with our guy for dinner last week. Having not been here before, I walked through the saloon-style doors and was like, "wha...this is a cigarette stinky old bar with only adults - this is where he wanted to bring the kids?" I didn't realize the dining area is separate from the bar. Ahh, much better. The place is not fancy in the least, but you'll eat well on a night when you are meat/potatoes hungry. And the service was some of the friendliest ever. The total bill will be comparable to a burger meal at Red Robin, Fuddruckers, Chili's, etc. Try this instead.

I do love me the taste of a good burger! This place has one of the better ones that I have had! It is going on my Top 10 list of burgers! Outside of the juicy and delicious piece of heaven on a bun, this place did the trick and did not disappoint. Our server did a good job of taking care of us and did not make us feel rushed at all. With as good as this burger was, the prices were not inflated at all. I would highly suggest stopping by as I know that the next tiem I am in the area, I will be stopping by for sure!

1981 called and they want their ambiance back!!! This place is worth visiting, but probably mostly for the decor and overwhelming early 1980's vibe that floods the senses when you walk in. Dark wood everywhere... black wrought iron lighting fixtures with those 1977-esque flickery orange candle light bulbs. Some of the staff are in on the retro-joke it would seem. Ours offered me a "delicious Schlitz" beer in an amber marbly glass. We both laughed at the scenario. The older folks at a few of the neighboring tables played the whole evening straight, however. This place was their original "scene" back when they moved into the 'hood, and as far as their concerned, it's probably as fresh as ever. The food is tasty "burgers and patty melts" stuff. I only wish it were 1981 prices. My family of 3 rang up a 40 dollar bill for dinner. All in all: Worth visiting once. Debatable repeat value.

Country House has one of the Best Burgers around - and they have Ostrich and Buffalo and Turkey burgers too. Choice of side including a baked potato. What's not to like about that? Sure, it's kind of a dive, but the food is so good and the service nice and friendly.

I'll chase joints with burger awards when opportune. This place was a bust. All I heard about was 2007 award for best burger in Chicagoland. I don't know what happened, but we waited for 45 minutes on a Saturday night at 8pm. When the anticipated burger came, it was one of the most ordinary burgers I've eaten at a non fast food restaurant - ordinary size, and a frozen patty taste. I was thinking I've had better Whoppers from Burger King. Oh well - I'd like to give the place another try, but there are too many other charhouse family style and burger places to try, and this one is old and dungy to boot. This place probably deserves more than 1 star, but relative to advertised expectations, that's what it was.

As much as I want to give this location more stars, I can't. The service just doesn't measure up to that of the Clarendon Hill and Geneva locations. Same great food, same awesome ostrich burger on rye, just sloooooowwwer.

For 10 years I kept hearing about this place. Is this a joke? I've had better burgers at Steak 'n Shake. Really! After a few expensive bottled beers in a place that looks like it's from the 70's (only dirtier) my bill with tip was $50! I'll never go back. By the way, great waitress and great service.

What else can I say about this place but simply, great food at a good price. My wife and I have been to two of there locations, this one and the one in Clarenden Hills and both are equally as good as the other. A good place to go for a great burger. These guys win awards all the time for their burger. The steak fries and muffaletta are also great. Plus, you don't have to wait forever for a table like you do at the original in Clarendon Hills.

A 3.5 rating, only because there isn't much of a selection other than meats and fried foods but when you want that, this place is very good. One of my son's favorite hamburger places. Look carefully, it's tucked back in a strip mall. To get the full effect, go to the big location on Kirk Rd. down by the Cougars stadium.
