Waited for soooooo long for our food and we waited for soooooo long for our check. Come on now. We were on our lunch break. It wasn't even busy. The sushi and sashimi isn't good either. I felt so groggy after eating there. Not coming back.

A great stop... Sunday brunch offers terrific variety of fresh, made-to-order dishes -- sushi, unique appetizers and hot entrees alike -- prepared by Simon himself. Quality is in no way compromised by the all-you-can eat format. If you're from, or familiar with the area from years ago, don't let its heritage as a converted Denny's dissuade you from checking out the pleasant, sophisticated dining experience among a great staff focused on leaving you with a new place to add to your list of "return for sure" establishments. We're going to try their catering as well. I've never written a restaurant review before. Motivating me to do so reflects how much I liked Simon Lin's.

We have been at Simon Lins many times. Lins chicken and Yu shang chicken are outstanding. Their waitress Karen is terrific. She knows the menu well and makes sure you order what is best for you. Be sure to ask for her and she will take good care of you. Piano on weekends.

The spicy Kung Pao chicken was amazing, and the staff here is super nice! Will definitely come back soon

Price is right but portions are very small and our sashimi tasted spoiled... We didn't finish it thinking it might be bad... On the bright side, service overall was very good and courteous

Nice upscale Asian Fusion atmosphere. Made our reservation, arrived a few minutes early and were seated promptly. Began our meal with the Sechwan dumplings. They were outstanding! The highlight of the meal! Perfectly cooked and came with a wonderful sauce with just the right amount of spice. Next course....sushi. Son had the spicy scallop roll which he loved. Husband and I shared a Dragon Tiger maki, (Tempura shrimp, masago, cucumber with eel and avocado on top). I would give this only okay marks. I thought that the shrimp tempura was overcooked but the flavor combination was nice. Entrees! We had one order each of the Mongolian chicken and beef. Not my favorite. Too many large pieces of almost raw scallion and the whole dish was set upon flavorless Styrofoam textured noodles. Also, the dish as a whole was not spicy enough. Then we had one order of the eggplant chicken basil. Also, only okay. I thought the overall texture was too mushy. One really good aspect of the entrees is that they were delivered to the table very freshly cooked. Our table was close enough to the kitchen that we could literally hear our entrees sizzling in the wok moments before them being served. We had both white rice and brown rice delivered to the table. The brown rice was very dry. On a final note the portions are not large. The service was kind of slow but very friendly. We really liked our waiter!

Beautiful dining area. Very nice and clean. I really loved how simon Lin himself greeted us, and sat us down at our table. RESPECT! I got the "crabby dragon roll" ( I think that's what it's called) and it was honestly the best sushi roll I've ever had! I've been to many sushi places around town and in downtown chicago, but this roll was warm and really fresh tasting. A bit sloppy on the appearance but that's ok. It's going in the tummy anyways. I also had the spring roll which had crab, mango, avocados, peanuts, and a delicious sauce to dip it In. Different from all the regular Chinese spring rolls, but let me tell ya, It was good. Finally, my boyfriend had some awesome duck drizzled in a sweet ginger honey sauce that sat on top of sweet potatoes. Their sweet potatoes are so flippin good! It almost tastes like a pumpkin pie! Overall, I give this place a four star only because the prices are a bit too high and I think they should have more options on the menu. That is all. Go to Simon Lins everybody! :]

Both my wife and I went down for the count after some appetizers and maki rolls tonight. Needless to say we won't be back. Too bad, as we enjoyed the dinner.

Ive been to Simon's multiple times and have never been let down. They have awesome apps, Incredibly tender beef, amazing scallops, and great sushi..... everything we've ever had is top notch, 4 stars in my book. The servers and management are incredibly friendly as well, check this place out!

Sorry, came here with a co-worker for dinner. We were of 6 people/3 tables in the restuarant and there were at least 6 people working there. Salad had one crouton and no dressing.. Sushi was OK, the one bright spot I ordered chicken and they brought pork the first time Second time they brought out my friends dish and said I ordered that one..I gave up but it was inedible to me because of the spices They comped us with edamame after the 30 minute ordeal, gee thanks Stopped by Panera on the way back to try to get some food and to try to save my night I wish I never came here, worst dining experience I've had in a long time, unfortunately I look to yelp to find new places and well this one has some misleading reviews. I eat out every night practically and always trying new places small/large so I know what to expect and how to rate the food and restaurant. Glad some of the other reviewers had better luck or maybe they went to a different place Felt bad for Mr. Lin and the front manager and servers obviously doesn't know what they are doing.

Staff is great. Owner is awesome. Food is even better. Never been a fan of eel until i tried their Dragon Tiger roll based on the owners recommendation....probably my favorite roll now. Will be back sometime hopefully soon for lunch and more sushi, if you're in the area or a sushi buff, give it a go.

My first time here with my daughter. Outstanding food, great service. Simon recommended Szechuan Dumpling for appetizers. They were out of this world. The peanut sauce with the appetizer was awesome, Had Eggplant Chicken Basil. Unbelievable. Wherever you are, it's worth a trip to Simon Lin's!

Simon Lins has some of the best food I eat there at least once a week ! It may look closed on the outside but that shouldn't stop you from coming and trying it out! Some of my favorites include the Yu-Shang chicken, Lins Stir-fried rice, Szeschwan dumplings, and the kung Bao chicken. The staff is also very nice!

So there were tons of red flags that I ignored before attempting to eat at this place. This was the worst dining experience I have had in years.... It was Mother's Day and I'm a terrible daughter this year and reservations slipped my mind. Mom wanted to eat at Bob Chinns but we couldn't even pull into the parking lot. We ended up finding ourselves at Simon lins Asian bistro. Red flag number one: The restaurant was mostly empty with the exception of two other tables on Mother's Day. Red flag number two: I have worked in the area for a decade and have never heard anyone talk about this restaurant or have I known anyone who's ever eaten here. We ordered our entrées and I had crispy tofu which was described as the best tofu dish in the world. My mom ordered the Seabass, and my brother and dad ordered a steak dish. It took us roughly an hour to get our entrées in a nearly empty restaurant. I get my so-called crispy tofu and it's completely soggy and absolutely disgusting. It was a very unappetizing color, what I like to call shit brown. I tried to eat vegetables but it tasted like they were soaked in soy sauce and cooked in more soy sauce. My mom took the very first bite of her so-called Seabass and there is a giant Bone the size of a rock in her fish. We called over the waiter who notified the manager and heard the manager say I'm not talking to them you deal with it. The chef then came out and told us that the bone was completely normal and that it should be in the fish. What a coward of a manager to not address customer issues and force his staff to do his job. The waiter was nice enough but we all left hungry and drove right to portillos. . Don't eat here. Ever.

My boyfriend and I dined here on August 10, 2011 since we had a Groupon the was expiring the following day. Our experience was disappointing and we were extremely underwhelmed with the quality of the food. We arrived just a few minutes before our reservation and were seated quickly. It took us forever to get a server and some water. We ordered and spent forever waiting to get our soup. Soup should not take that long to make. I had the Asian Pear soup and it was OK, but nothing special. The boyfriend got the Wonton Soup - again, OK, but nothing special. The other diners around us seemed put off that their food was taking a long time to come out as well. We just ordered sushi and we were extremely disappointed by what we got. The scallop roll did not taste good at all - the scallops were rubbery and the roll lacked flavor. Also, the rolls were not plated nicely and the sauce was all over the bottom of the plate instead of on the actual roll. It would have been easier for us to just have asked for the sauce on the side and dipped our rolls in it instead. The other three rolls we ordered were nothing special either. Also, while we were eating our server informed us that the kitchen would be closing and asked if we wanted any more hot food. This annoyed me because if you're open until a certain time, you should be able to serve hot food until that time. Other couples came in after us and I believe they got hot food. Service in general was nice - but slow. Perhaps they should have added more waiters since it was the last day before the Groupon expired. The meal was relatively expensive - even with the Groupon and we didn't even get any alcohol or desserts! Needless to say, we will not be going back. Perhaps we should have stayed away from the sushi. If you're looking for good sushi in the area, go elsewhere.

Can't comment on the food. Never had a chance. Went in on Mother's Day with a reservation even. Place was less than half full, but seemed way under staffed and stressed. My wife's chair had some kind of liquid on it, and I didn't even have a chair. Both of which were addressed by the hostess fortunately. But really? Sat for 15 minutes - never saw a server. Nobody. Nothing but water from a stressed out bus boy while was standing waiting for a chair. Whom of which, was repeatedly being yelled at by the manager. It was embarrassing to sit there and watch. Finally, once I saw a lady getting soup spilled on her by one of the servers we never saw - we just got up and walked out. Best decision we made, as Kona Grill took very good care of us down the street. If this place was ever any good, it's barely a memory of that now.

This is absolutely my favorite restaurant. The food is consistently excellent. It is definitely Asian food, but with a fresh spin - not your run-of the-mill Chinese take-out. The owners are generally on-site, always checking to see that guests are having a good experience. The overall ambiance is a relaxing and restorative in an atmosphere of zen type elegance. Service is always prompt and I think the prices are quite reasonable for a sit-down restaurant in this area. It is a really good value in every aspect. I have eaten here on a multitude of occasions, trying numerous dishes, and the quality, service and friendliness of the staff never waiver. My favorite dishes are the Lin Chicken, Simon Lin's Special Tofu, and the Chicken and Eggplant with Basil. My daughter loves the Beef Broccoli and she asks to come here every time she is in town to have some. I also have to note how much I love the unique spin on an old classic with the their Asian Caesar Salad. Soup and appetizers are also quite good, and the sushi is much better than other restaurants serving sushi in this area. I heartily recommend this restaurant to everyone seeking the best in Asian food.

Simon Lins has never disappointed and is a regular haunt for some of my family members. We particularly like the Sunday Brunch, which is all you can eat -- but you order from an actual menu with very good offerings, which is a welcome departure from the typical. Everything we have eaten here has always been well executed, innovative many times, and always prepared fresh. Simon himself often comes out to say hello, check in, and deliver a complimentary appetizer or two on the house. While some might argue there are better Asian/Asian-fusion restaurants, I really do believe Simon Lins' offers a great combination of excellent service, warm ambiance/family atmosphere, very good food and reasonable prices -- in the burbs!

I placed an order online using the awesome and convenient Beyond Menu app. Order was $23 plus change. Delivery charge $3. Driver shows up knowing I will be paying cash. I hand him $40 and ask for $5 change. Quite a generous $8 tip on a $23 order no? He has the audacity to tell me he has no change. I call restaurant, they say they can't help me. $17 surcharge overall on a $23 meal? Does that sound right??

Came in for lunch. Ordered the Yu Shang Chicken which was pretty tasty. I ordered it spicy for fear that it would be too sweet with mangoes in it. But it was good. The rice might have been a bit overcooked, but nothing too horrible. The egg drop soup was not your typical syrupy mess. Tasted fresh and had a good combination of flavor for such a simple soup. Loved how peaceful the dining atmosphere was-since I was looking to relax on my lunch break. Overall, great food.

Atmosphere: C- Food: B Service: B+ Decent restaurant, but I will not be in a rush to return. No specific complaints at all, but there was nothing about this establishment the "demands" an immediate return. The food was fresh, well presented and good tasting. The service was attentive, friendly, informed and timely. However, the decor is very dated, the lighting too dim and generally it served to detract from the meal. Going out to a restaurant, for me at least, is a combination of factors and where one is markedly out of step with the others, it limits my enjoyment.

we really wanted to like this place but it wasn't very good eggplant dish was extremely oily and bland and even though we were the only ones there the service was meh they need to do something to step up their game the bill was all messed up too

We like the selection of tea. Cranberry Hibiscus is my favorite. The sushi roll was excellent. We love the vegetarian dumplings. Confetti chicken is fantastic. We have not had a dish we didn't like. The atmosphere is casual, comfortable and clean.

I was very pleasantly surprised with how enjoyable my dinner was at Simon lin's. I had been wanting to try this place for a couple year's but the bad reviews really deterred me from going. But then a living social deal popped up and I figured now's a good time than any to check it out. Reluctantly my husband and I decided to finally go there tonight, and now I am so happy we did! First off, I am a HUGE sushi lover. I am very picky though on where I get my sushi, so I was very nervous to get any here. I just had to try at least one as an appetizer though, so we ordered a spicy salmon maki. Wow was I surprised by how good it was! Was it the best I've ever had? No. But I liked it enough to have been disappointed that I didn't order more for just my dinner. In fact, we did add one more to our order afterwards because I really just had to have another. But so what I did end up ordering for my actual meal was the Kung bao beef. So I actually don't normally like Chinese food, but again, I was very surprised how good this was. My husband got the Mongolian chicken which was also tasty. As for our service, our waiter was very nice and on top of things. Simon also came out to see his guests and even refreshed our water. The only thing that I didn't like about Simon Lin's were the prices. It's quite pricey for a semi-casual restaurant. Overall though, my husband and I are really happy we checked this place out. Maybe it was because we had low expectations, but either way, we're already planning on coming back next week for our anniversary.

I ordered off grub hub, and my order ended up getting messed up, which is not my total reason for writing this review. The main purpose for this review is the fact that I am sitting on the toilet right now after eating their sushi, and as a result cannot get to bed in time. I'd just like to alert everyone that they should ask these guys before ordering, how fresh their sushi is because I for one put that in question now, based on my current situation.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed them before now. This is one of my family's places for special dinners. The food is delicious, though I guess some people like to go for the regular Chinese food. Why on earth would you go to a fusion bistro and order standard Chinese food? People, they have a fabulous (yes, slightly more expensive) fusion menu (try the duck. It rocks.)

Ordered for delivery, and dinner showed up at the Springhill Suites in Lincolnshire insanely fast. Low delivery charge, and the fish was excellent. The rice tasted oversweetened and a bit underdone, but was edible with enough soy. The seaweed salad was killer. Will definitely be getting dinner from there again!

I wish there were more stars I could give this restaurant. Flavor explosion in my mouth!! We started with the sechwan dumplings....fabulous!! My husband had the chicken Lin. Only bad thing about this dish, there was not enough!! So flavorful. I had the orange beef. I think this is the best dinner I have had out in ages!! The beef was tender and not a hint of fat. Onions, broccoli and green peppers in with a sauce that had just the right amount of spice. I highly recommend this restaurant!!! We will be returning for sure!!

My wife and I have been to Simon Lins bistro a number of times. While this place isn't a regular spot for us we do enjoy it. Decor-the decor is beautiful and very nicely done. The staff does a great job of keeping this place clean and organized. Staff- Very polite and professional, the owner does a great job training them. Overall Impression when walking in: Every time we have come here during peak hours with the exception of Sunday, we are always sad to see at how empty it is. Sunday Brunch- Hands down the best all you can eat buffet you can get. You pay about $30-$35 for a very high quality menu with great selection. The food quality for a buffet is great and you are not likely to beat it. Over all menu- My wife and I have sampled many aspects of the menu. In my opinion this is what holds Simon Lins back. The menu is really large and expansive with some items are look creative. However it is a lot to take in, and one can be intimidated by it many of the items are just unremarkable. In my opinion their fried calamari is hands down the best calamari I have had, it is made perfectly and has a unique texture. On Sunday brunch I would just eat the calamari if my wife would let me. The thing is, if they had 15 items just as good and creative as the fried calamari I think this place would be packed out.

Last night was the 3rd time ordering carry-out from Simon Lin's. It was not only the charm, it's always the Charm. 1st Time we ordered (safe) and had the Spicy Tuna. It was exceptional. The second time we ordered (safe) the beef fried rice. Very exceptional and clean tasting with no greasy after taste. Some of the best we have ever had. Yes we lived on the north side of the city for 30 years and recently lived near China Town for the last 2-years and have eaten at many restaurants there. We also ordered the MONGOLIAN BEEF it was very tender, thinly sliced and seasoned to perfection. Last and not least was SIMON LIN'S SPECIAL TOFU. EXCEPTIONAL, a must have especially if you are a vegetarian. This time we ordered the HUNAN BEEF, which I would definitely order again. More Fried Rice (YUM) and the highlight upon Mr. Simon Lin's recommendation "LIN'S CHICKEN". This is quite possibly THE BEST Chinese dish made with chicken I have ever had. The chicken was shredded and spiced amazingly. Can't wait to try the beef. OUR NEW "GO TO" Place for Chinese. Thrilled we don't have to drive into the city to get exceptional Chinese Food. If this place was in Lincoln Park or River North it would be PACKED. Forgot to mention the complimentary hot tea while I waited. Outstanding. Made me feel welcomed and appreciated. Especially yesterday in the sub-zero temps. Above and beyond.

Hello! This is a fantastic find. My husband took me for Valentines day and I can't wait to go back! The food was fresh and delicious! Previously, I hadn't liked sushi but I love it now! Our wait staff gal was fabulous...Sarah...who was extermely accommodating, very knowledgeable and simply a joy! The atmosphere was relaxing with the sound of the waterfall, dim lighting and LIVE PIANO AND FLUTE music which was over the top.... and I loved that we were not rushed and were able to chill without any pressure to leave. The only thing that could have been better was the nasty manager being EXTEREMLY intimidating and disrespectful to Sarah.....which was totally uncalled for. Can't wait to go back.......

Went here for lunch. The food was great overall, but not too many veggie options. The veggie roll was a bit bland, however the Chinese tofu dish was excellent. Perhaps a touch too much garlic for me, and slightly too much salt for my mom, but it's made to order, so make sure to just tell them how you like it. Their seafood salad was good, and their egg drop soup was phenomenal. The soft she'll crab roll was good, however the rice seemed not fresh, but not bad. The chocolate Wasabi mouse was delicious, served in a puddle of light creme, however the mouse came frozen.. So it was cold and the texture of ice cream or sorbet.. It was kind of a disappointment compared to what a good mouse should be.. They're super friendly. The front of the house was in fact slightly too friendly if your the type who wants to be left alone, but no harm done. The menu is reasonably priced. I'll definitely go back!

My wife and I enjoy coming to Simon lands we went there last night for our anniversary dinner and we had a really great time. The Yu schan chicken and stir fry vegetables with beef or wonderful. The service was very personable and they were very nice to us on our anniversary. we had a flourless chocolate cake that we shared for dessert which was also quite heavenly We should come here more often.

This is the best Asian cuisine in the burbs and perhaps Chicagoland. The owner/chef Simon Lin is creative and extremely passionate about the food. He was trained in the top hotel restaurants in Taipei and understands and executes the subtleness that is Formosan Chinese cuisine. Outstanding items include the Sichuan dumplings, the Yu Shang pork, the Beijing pork, the Chilean Sea bass, the veggie potstickers and Lin's chicken. The sushi rolls are very creative and exciting. I have been almost a weekly diner at Simon's for more than 6 years and have never been other than extremely pleased with the taste and presentation of the dishes.

Their Chinese food is awful. I ordered 4 dishes: tofu, pork, prawn and fish fillet. They all tasted the same, with overwhelming amount of pepper to kill all other flavors. Seriously, if you want Chinese food, go to China Town. Any restaurant there has much better food.

Come for the wait, stay for the food! Arrived as a party of six with reservations that were made earlier that day. We arrived a few minutes later than our reservation and it took more than half an hour to get seated. In that time a party of eight with reservations half an hour later than ours and a party of six without reservations were seated ahead of us. The servers and hostess didn't offer us a seat at the bar or come back to check on us or do anything else. We were ignored for a half hour. We were seated and given three menus. Twenty minutes later our waiter arrived and had to be told to provide enough menus, water, and a drinks menu. Twenty minutes later we were finally able to order. We ordered several appetizers, drinks, and entrées for everyone. An hour and a half after we arrived and an hour after we were seated, our drinks arrived as well as one person's appetizer. Another appetizer arrived about five minutes later. Fifteen to twenty minutes later entrées for two of us arrived, five minutes later several others arrived. One appetizer did not arrive until the waiter was reminded about it, and it was delivered about ten minutes later. One person's entrée did not arrive until twenty minutes after everyone else's, even after the waiter was told about it. The owner came over and apologized, and the dish eventually arrived after everyone else was done eating. Each time the waiter arrived he was full of excuses and apologies and clearly very flustered. It took over an hour and a half from walking in the door to getting the first of our food, multiple dishes were missed and delivered late, appetizers delivered after entrées, and for all the poor service we were comped two deserts and tip was already included in the bill for a party of six. Needless to say no one added to the forced tip. The Pepper steak I had was okay, nothing beyond a standard Chinese restaurant, the Calamari breading tasted chalky and didn't seem to be fully cooked. I've been to busy restaurants, and often. Sometimes establishments are full and seating and serving your patrons can be difficult - that's the earmark of a successful restaurant. The places I come back to despite knowing I will have a bit of a wait do things much better than Simon Lin's: The hostess makes sure you know you will be seated as soon as they can make room and offers somewhere to wait instead of having six people standing in the foyer of the restaurant for over a half hour being ignored. The waiter arrives within a few minutes of your being seated to make sure menus, water, utensils, and a drinks menu are available and to take drinks orders. Courses arrive in order - drinks, appetizers, entrées, and they arrive together so that you don't sit alternately staring at the one person out of six that got something to eat and the empty space between your silverware that a better restaurant would have occupied with food. Or worse still, everyone but you receives your dishes and even after telling the waiter your food doesn't arrive until after everyone else has finished eating. Most of all, instead of offering excuses and apologizing each time they arrive, the staff should apologize ONCE, not make the same mistakes again, make sure they are more attentive and prompt going forward, and comp a couple of drinks and some desserts as a matter of course. To be comped two desserts on a $200+ bill when the whole experience has taken nearly three hours start to finish is frankly pathetic. Given the upscale pretensions the decor, dinnerware, location, and prices broadcast, this experience was a big disappointment. The staff seemed extremely amateur and all of the people I dined with agreed that we would not be coming back.

What a wonderful surprise! The food was fantastic and the service even more remarkable. Upon the recommendation of our server, we ordered the dumplings appetizer with sesame sauce, orange beef, and Lin's chicken. The presentation was beautiful and the food even better. Our server was attentive and so very thoughtful. I would not hesitate to dine here again next time we are in the Lake Forest area in Illinois.

I've eaten here about 1/2 dozen times--the latest was last Friday. It has always been an excellent experience. The Sushi is unique, beautifully presented & delicious. I've also had some of their chinese dishes and unique salads. Unlike many sushi-oriented places, they have an excellent wine list as well, and I've had some very tasty wines by the glass. Finally--the servers are very helpful & Simon himself is very hands on & definitely makes sure you have a great experience here. Definitely a place to go when in Lincolnshire area, e.g., before a show at Marriott Lincolnshire.

We went to Simon Lin's for lunch after some meetings at Stevenson High School after checking my Yelp app for nearby restaurants. We didn't want a chain, and this was one of the closest options. I'm really happy we tried it, because it was very good. I ordered the Lin's Chicken, and my server asked about how spicy I wanted it. I ordered it medium spicy, which was perfect. The dish was flavorful, with chili oil, ginger, garlic, lemon, and green onions and some very finely shredded stir-fried chicken. Served with brown rice (or white, if you'd rather), it was a generous portion, good temperature, very fresh, and delicious! One of my friends ordered the YuShang Pork, which he liked very much, and my other friend had the Pepper Steak, which she enjoyed as well. All three dishes came with a choice of miso or egg-drop soup. I had the egg-drop, which was flavorful and hot. I'm usually not a fan of egg-drop soup because it can be bland and gummy, but it tasted very fresh. The wait staff was friendly and ready with refills on our water and tea/soda. The owner came by several times to check on us, and when we asked him about how the Lin's chicken was prepared, he gave us good details about how they cooked it. Very nice! I live about an hour south of Simon Lin's, so I probably won't make it up there often, but if it were nearby it would definitely be a place I'd return to frequently.

Recently visited from out of town to pick up some sushi and appetizers to go and had high hopes based on the reviews here. Unfortunately I ended up waiting over 20 minutes for 2 rolls and an order of dumplings. This would not have been an issue if the restaurant was packed but at peak dinner time the restaurant might have had 10 tables with customers and the rest was empty. I ordered the following; Sechwan dumplings, caterpillar roll and sake nigiri. The dumplings were amazing as others have posted, but unfortunately everything else was disappointing. The caterpillar roll literally still had pieces of plastic wrap attached and the pieces of eel were chewy. The sake nigiri turned out to be smoked salmon which I did not order. I would be hard pressed to try this place again. Good luck.

This place was like a little bit of heaven in the midst of nowhere. I was surprised to find good Asian fusion food in this area. They have great sushi rolls which are huge, delicious tempura, scallops and kung pow beef. The dishes have much higher quality ingredients than most other Asian restaurants (I think they used a fillet for my kung pow beef). The service is very friendly and the decor is unique and there is a lot of ambiance and tranquility. This would be a great place to take a date if you are in the area.

Simon Lin's is a great way to have asian food with a great atmosphere. The service is warm and accomodating to any requests, and Simon himself comes out to greet you. I had my rehearsal dinner here, in the back of the restaurant with the fish tank behind us. When we were deciding on the menu a few weeks before the event, Simon walked us through the menu, made the dishes himself, and came out to discuss with us. The night of the dinner, everything went incredibly well, the food was spectacular and the service was flawless. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to have asian food presented with little more flair than usual.

These guys need to do something about the exterior so that its lively looking, maybe a shiny "LOOK HERE" sign. I've driven past so many times not ever caring what potential this restaurant may have. Their shades are always drawn to give the inside an intimate look but makes the outside appear to be customer - less. So, its only because of a sales meeting that I stopped in. Asian bistro makes me think its got to be Asian fusion, sushi and some other miscl dishes. Its that exactly. Sushi was pleasant though not memorable, a bit costly and the plating was average. The entrees presentation looked good, though quite costly. Many of the entrees were in the higher ranges, $17+. A single person can go over $30 easily, sucked for some of the attendees, those on a travel budget. Cool; the owner makes his way around to greet customers. Think "Chou Man fu" looking, and looks as if he stepped off an episode from Samurai Sunday. The wise older man that offers you some bangin sushi. And he did, he told us to try (I forget the name) an appetizer which resembles a Japanese burrito, its wrapped with seaweed like a big piece of sushi served warm. Its a good idea for an intimate date or a small grouping of people. For a group of sales people it stunk. The day we visited it wasn't busy and still it took a full forty-five minutes before most at the table received their main entree. Those ordering sushi had a twenty to thirty minute wait. Another thing: while some items are spectacular there's too much lag time, waiters are hard to find. Bus boys come around often but haven't enough grasp of the language to carry an order to the kitchen.

Food....not too good. Service, is excellent! The waiter recommended the chicken Lin. It was very lemony and sour. Did not like it very much. I did enjoy the brown rice that it came with.

Groupon had a deal for this place....so, I gave it a try. Ambiance is good. From start to finish - awesome service! I had the Salmon Miso soup. A bit fishy side. Ordered the Simon Lin's special tofu.... Pretty good. A bit on the salty side. My girlfriend ordered the asian pear soup. They should go easy on the ginger. She also ordered the Mango medley. This dish was pretty good. Good mix of white chicken meat, beef and large prawns, and mango pieces. I'd have to say that the food was average, but service was very good! I will be back to try the sunday brunch...menu items look tasty and for $20!~

Ordered take out yesterday from here. Servings were small. We ordered a chicken dish and there was more vegetables than meat...it's like they were just trying to make the container look full so they had more veggies than actual meat.. Also ordered a fried rice with beef dish...everything we ordered was gross. Won't order from here again.

4.5 Stars When I used to live near Cleveland, we had family friends that owned and ran a Chinese fast food joint. We'd eat there and the owners would make time to come over and talk to us and make sure that we were enjoying ourselves. While visiting my family over New Year's, we came to Simon Lin's and it totally reminded me of that experience, except that we're not actually family friends with Mr. Lin and his restaurant isn't fast food. But that doesn't matter - he still came by to make jovial conversation with us, checked that we were enjoying the food, and made recommendations on more traditional Chinese fare that might match my parents' tastes better. I don't know anything about their regular menu aside from being told that it's Chinese fusion. We were here for their Sunday all-you-can-eat brunch for something like $20 or so a head - a totally affordable price considering it's AYCE and of pretty good quality. The menu was definitely fusion, but there's really something for everyone. I enjoyed the Americanized food: chicken rolls; fried calamari with sriracha aioli; teriyaki salmon over potato risotto. My parents liked the more traditionally Chinese-flavored items: confetti chicken with mustard greens; crispy shell-on shrimp; veggie stir-fry. We also had a couple sushi rolls, and I can recommend the spicy tuna (it's actually nominally spicy), but save your appetite for the other dishes. My dad liked the confetti chicken so much that he ordered another plate. The only issue I had with the food was that some of the dishes were a touch on the salty side, but for the most part everything was done up just right. While the portion sizes aren't huge, you can continue to order the same thing many times. Our server, Karen, was totally accommodating - she was polite, friendly, and seemed to have a knack for knowing when to stop by without being in the way. Aside from the thoroughly enjoyable food (don't forget to save room for a brownie with red bean paste or some fruit sorbet for dessert!), I totally love the decor. It's quite Zen-like, with a flowing water panel, lots of neutral colors, and a well-lit by sunlight, without being terribly bright. I see it as more of a family place, but it'd be fine to take coworkers or a casual date. With the friendly service and thoroughly enjoyable food, this is definitely a place I'd like to come back to when I'm in Chicagoland visiting the family. It's always dangerous when I go anywhere with AYCE, though... so it's a good thing I don't live here anymore!

Went to Simon Lin's for lunch with 6 other coworkers last month. We were there around noon, but there were only about 3 other tables beside us. A couple of us ordered sushi and the others ordered stir fry entrees. Price is decent compare to other restaurant around the neighborhood. Honestly, I didn't expect the food to be good when I saw only 3 tables of customers at peak lunch hour, but surprisingly the food was pretty good. The restaurant looked nice, food was good and it didn't cost much. So I am not sure why this place was so empty? Service does need improvement and the manager didn't seem to know what he was doing. But, I will go back for the food.

ah, i remember when simon lin's used to be a denny's. eating there reminds me of my rebellious high school days. but they've remodeled the entire place, leaving no signs of the counter where i used to get my coffee. the interior is beautiful (check out the fish tank and the ceiling in the restrooms!) the food is excellent. they have an extensive sushi list, and the rolls are quite good -- especially for a place in the suburbs. i haven't had an entree i didn't like here -- definitely check out the chef's recommendations/specials! the rib eye is tasty. and you must, MUST try the tiramisu dessert. it's not the tiramisu you know, but rather it's got a mandarin orange asian play on it, but it is DELICIOUS! the sunday brunch might seem a bit on the expensive side, but it's GOOD quality all-you-can-eat, AND made to order AND the selection is very extensive (it's none of that super china buffet - heated lamps junk).

I had lunch at the place several times. I definitely recommend the lunch box combination. The food is lightly seasoned and the portion is about right. The quality of the food is very good for lunch. I had the beef combination and salmon one. The beef is tender, the quality is better than most of the similar lunch box serveres by Chinese or Japanese restaurant around the area. I recommend you give it a try for the lunch.

This location was actually formerly a Denny's that I used to hang-out at in HS. They did a really great job in decorating in the inside. You can hardly tell at all that it once was a chain restaurant. Service is great. Never seems crowded when I have been there. But they do take reservations. The awesome thing I have to say about this place is their Sunday brunch, which runs from 11:30 to 2 and is all you can eat off the menu for $20. You can't beat that! The menu items include appetizers such as calamari & egg rolls. You can get miso soup, salads, fried rice (really good), mangolian beef, etc, etc and plus sushi rolls (California, Spicy tuna, about 15 different rolls). This is such a great deal $20 for all you can eat. Plus it's not a buffet that you go up to. They make the food fresh and bring it to you. Oh and you get a dessert too (whatever it is that month).

A bit pricey, especially for the neighborhood, but a decent choice if you're trying to impress. In the summer, it's nice to be able to sit outside and have lunch on their patio but it can get really hot, so secure a spot with an umbrella. I came for lunch and spent about $25 for some sushi and it was good but not memorable. But I suppose most importantly it was fresh. For an "asian" resaurant, service is amazing and it's a good spot to have a business lunch.

Mediocre. Was not that fresh. Miso was excellent though. But sushi rolls were just ok. Ginger was dried out and dirty...was not pleased with service.

So I came here for the first time and decided to write my review. YAY! The outside of the restaurant looked so gloomy. I kinda like gloomy, so it didn't bother me. I blame the gloomy-ness on all the other closed business surround the restaurant. The inside looks very cozy and nice. Nice enough to have a romantic dinner. I wouldn't say the place looks kid friendly, but I wouldn't know because at the time I went there were no kids. Kind of disappointed at the small wine selection but their specialty drinks look and sound really cool. Their food prices were a bit pricey but I expected that out of a restaurant that looked as 'fancy' as it did. I ordered the calamari and I have to say that it's one of the best calamari that I've ever had. I only had sushi here and I can say that it's pretty decent. I went crazy and decided to try their kimchee beef roll. Not really a common sushi roll out there but it was pretty good. I also had their dragon roll which was decent. As for the wait staff, they were VERY attentive. My water glass was ALWAYS FULL. They took away our plates at a decent time frame and checked up on us which was very nice. I was pretty disappointed at the fact that when I asked the server for entree suggestions he looked at me and said he didn't have any... OUCH. How can a server not know ANY suggestions? I'd definitely go here again and maybe try out some of their entrees.

The best spicy salmon roll i have had in my life. And i love the miso soup... they put sashimi grade salmon on top and the heat from the soup cooks it. It is really cool and tasty!! A little pricy, but some things aren't so bad, and the expensive things are WORTH IT!!!!

Whenever I fly into Chicago I usually end up stopping at this place on my way home headed North. I think they consistently serve great food! I have been coming here since they opened and been a loyal customer for years now. The quality of their sushi is very high, especially for an area rather devoid of anywhere great to eat. There are plenty of better sushi places in Chicago (that are much more expensive), but too much of a hassle to make it down to. When up North and looking for good sushi, this is on the top of my list. Aside from the fish they have a "fusion" style menu and a traditional menu, giving you plenty of choices. The duck has always been excellent. The place is nicely decorated and is very inviting. While it doesn't look like much on the outside it's a very nice place to spend some time on a meal. Service has always been spectacular and the staff has come to remember me and my family. I don't give this place 5 stars mostly because of the price. If it were a bit cheaper then I wouldn't hesitate to bump it up a notch.

I've been to Simon Lin's quite a few times for Sunday Brunch and dinner. The food is always absolutely delicious! I really enjoy their miso soup with salmon and tofu, the crispy Taiwanese chicken rolls and the calamari for starters. The bone-in rib eye steak with their special sauce and the glazed salmon are excellent choices for entrees. But when I'm in the mood for Chinese, I like to order the Eggplant Chicken with Basil and the Shanghai Black Bean Chicken & Prawns. Yum! Simon Lin's is definitely worth a try! The inside is beautifully decorated and upscale...even in the bathrooms! The contemporary decor is reminiscent of something you'd find in the city.

Four of us arrived at the Bistro after driving in traffic for over 3 hours...did not enjoy Chicago traffic!! We ordered calamari to start. The two sauces that came with the squid were very tasty, and the calamari was not overcooked but the coating was too thick. My daughter and son-in-law shared a crab sushi (sorry, dont remember what kind). They were pretty disappointed in the taste but they did finish it. They both order pad-thai and loved it. Took the left overs back to our hotel and did finish them. My son-in-law had the miso soup that he did not enjoy (he lived in Japan for awhile and didnt rate this as ok at all). My son and I split a tuna tuna salmon roll. We both enjoyed the salmon much more than the tuna. It was ok. It was not outstanding. We both ordered soup. I had hot and sour seafood soup and was very good and my son had a won ton soup that he also enjoyed. All in all, we were very hungry and the food was decent but for the cost, it was a bit disappointing.

I used to go to Simon Lin's for lunch and then discovered that the dinner menu is just as incredible. The service is top notch and Simon is usually there to say hello. My 12 year old son ate tofu and thought he was eating beef! Simon Lin's special tofu dish is just amazing and it does taste like beef. I know this restaurant doesn't skimp on the qualifty of the food at all. You can taste how fresh everything is. I would also recommend the mongolian beef and the kung pao shrimp.

I was really disappointed by Simon Lin's. My husband and I ordered from there shortly after my daughter was born. It was supposed to be my first sushi after having been pregnant. I ordered the Tuna Fresh Mango Maki. It was essentially a mango roll with very thin slices of avocado and tuna on top--mostly avocado. For $10, that's a little ridiculous. Everything else we ordered was really so-so. For that price, we were expecting better.

The all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch gives you an opportunity to try multiple dishes. I would recommend the Yu Shang Chicken. My wife has commented that it tastes pretty authentic, and I value her opinion highly when it comes to chinese food. I would go again.

One of the most atrocious restaurants I have ever eaten at. Theres a reason you shouldn't eat risotto at an Asian place. First they made a risotto without rice. Second it supposedly had potatoes (looked like they were rotten or mottled) and some weird mushroom. The "thing" was served cold and tasted like stale feet in old socks gravy. Yuck! The waitress was very surprised and acted like she was going to do something about it -"I'm going to talk to the chef about this". Predictably nothing happened. The man who I presumed was the owner was blissfully kept unaware of the entire episode and I shelled out $25.00 for junk. The teriyaki salmon on top of the risotto was so-so. You can buy better food for a quarter of the price at Walmart. Disgusting. Needless to say there was no tip given.

Now y'all who post on here, be careful what you say because my uncle owns this place! :) JK I want honesty. For me, real nice atmosphere and beautiful inside the restaurant. Food is pretty good but kind of expensive for what you get. It can be a little on the salty side for me as well.

We went here on a recent weekend evening after a long absence. The restaurant appears to be located in a building that is shaped like a Dennys. The menu has sort of a pan-(East) Asian vibe with choices inspired by Japanese (many sushi choices), Thai and Chinese cuisine. The portions are decent sized and we thought that they were tastefully presented and possessed flavor(avoiding some of the "gloppiness" we sometimes see with Asian-inspired cuisine). We'd go again if we were in the neighborhood.

A nice little restaurant that has a few "lunch box" style specials, with pieces of sushi and other random asian dishes. It's nice, but a bit pricey.

Simon Lin offers upscale Asian food in a transformed Denny's Restaurant that includes outdoor seating. Service is attentive with an active manager circulating the room. Mediocre wine list and no German offerings to complement this light food. They do have a $15 corkage for BYO. Brought a German Reisling which was perfect. Even the server complimented the pairing.Fabulous veggie pot stickers with a sweet sauce. Spring rolls have fresh vegetables along with a touch of cilantro in a thin outer wrap.Entrees that my group enjoyed included fried rice, Lin Chicken, and Hunan Beef. Like the option of white or brown rice. All entrees are single servings per diner rather than family style. So each person is inclined to stick with his/her chosen entrée. Prices are a bit steep but the fresh ingredients and sophisticated flavors make for a winning combination. Would have liked some fortune cookies with the excellent tea.

Simon Lins has some of the best food I eat there at least once a week ! It may look closed on the outside but that shouldn't stop you from coming and trying it out! Some of my favorites include the Yu-Shang chicken, Lins Stir-fried rice, Szeschwan dumplings, and the kung Bao chicken. The staff is also very nice!

Ive been to Simon's multiple times and have never been let down. They have awesome apps, Incredibly tender beef, amazing scallops, and great sushi..... everything we've ever had is top notch, 4 stars in my book. The servers and management are incredibly friendly as well, check this place out!

Good luck.

It's always dangerous when I go anywhere with AYCE, though... so it's a good thing I don't live here anymore!

ah, i remember when simon lin's used to be a denny's. eating there reminds me of my rebellious high school days. but they've remodeled the entire place, leaving no signs of the counter where i used to get my coffee. the interior is beautiful (check out the fish tank and the ceiling in the restrooms!) the food is excellent. they have an extensive sushi list, and the rolls are quite good -- especially for a place in the suburbs. i haven't had an entree i didn't like here -- definitely check out the chef's recommendations/specials! the rib eye is tasty. and you must, MUST try the tiramisu dessert. it's not the tiramisu you know, but rather it's got a mandarin orange asian play on it, but it is DELICIOUS! the sunday brunch might seem a bit on the expensive side, but it's GOOD quality all-you-can-eat, AND made to order AND the selection is very extensive (it's none of that super china buffet - heated lamps junk).

Horrible customer service. After arriving for a 7pm pick up for carry out, I walked in to be greeted by no one. I waited 3-5 minutes for the host/hostess and finally went to the bar where the bartender told me to wait some more for my carry out order because the hostess would be out from the kitchen soon. I continued to wait while my food sat in a pizza carry out bag. When the hostess finally came out from the back she asked if I was paying cash or charge. Told her cash and gave her a $100. She gave me $53 as change and immediately went into the back again. The math in my head didn't seem right so I re counted it and checked the receipt. She should have given me $63 as change. I continued to wait for her to return to the front until I finally went to the bartender and told him about the problem. After looking at the receipt he argued with me that the hostess did give the me correct amount of change. I had to pull my calculator out on my cell phone and do the math for him to prove I was right. Once he acknowledged his math was wrong he began to argue with me "how do I know she really only gave you $53 instead of $63"? Seriously? I told him he could check my wallet and see that it was empty except for the $53 she gave me. He instead went "to find her" for less than 30 seconds and came out saying "she said she gave you $63". I looked around at the empty restaurant at 7pm and told him "now I know why it's empty. You can keep my $10. I won't be back." The worst part? I didn't even get a fortune cookie. Do not dine here.

One of the best Chinese Fusion restaurants I've had. Try the Sechwan pot stickers and the Mongolian beef. Yum!
