I ate 3/4 she o could not even eat 1/4 we both complained to upset stomachs on the way home. very disappointed

The food was amazing but they do give you a lot of food it says that it is a low price range well I went there with three people and it was 67.00 Our waiter was so nice probably the nicest waiter I've ever had they have a big sign outside so u can't miss it I recommend it a lot. MUST GO GREAT SERVICE

Best skillets in town. Great service, but the best part is their fresh squeezed orange juice. I miss home style cooking and homey feel and this place has it. You can tell they all enjoy what they do. Top notch service.

I ordered chicken noodle soup and it had absolutely NO chicken! Upon entering this restaurant I was excited to get a homemade chicken noodle soup and it was on the day's menu! I ordered it for take out and opened it shortly afterwards and I realized I had a bowl of steamy hot macaroni (noodle only) with chicken stock, carrots, parsley and celery! I hope they make a change on the soup ingredients.

Great spot for breakfast. Lots of great memories here. Typical breakfast dishes and lunch dishes. Local spot...not a chain. I like that. Atmosphere: Cozy, homey etc. Feel good spot. Food: Very good. Better than most diners. Service: Fantastic service. You can tell they care about your experience.

Consistency in quality of food, top notch customer service, and cleanliness that can't be beat. This place still has my vote for 5 stars. Sure, it's a diner, but this place has a magical touch. The owners take their business seriously, and it shows. My parents are in town, and we decided to take them to Independence Grove, but not without first taking them to The Liberty. Excited to come back after last year's Independence Grove visit, my parents absolutely loved their dining experience...of course so did I! * Kids cheeseburger was exactly the same. Grown-up size (perfect for hearty appetite boys). * I ordered the open face corned beef reuben with sauerkraut. It was so ginormous I couldn't finish. Delicious on marble rye. When I left the owner said he noticed my leftover sandwich and wanted to know why I couldn't finish. I explained it was too big for my appetite and sadly I couldn't bring it home since we were heading to Independence Grove. * Hubby happy with eggs. He's a vegetarian. * My dad's salad was beyond ginormous (honestly, I can't believe he ate the whole thing!). * Cleanest bathroom I've ever experienced. So clean I remember it from last year's stop. Our server was fantastic and handled all our needs. Food came out in a short amount of time, and I really appreciated the cleanliness of the plates and silverware. Terrific trustworthy dining stop.

This place has a weird vibe. It feels stuffy and outdated but at least everything was clean. The food was good and the service was great. We enjoyed our first visit and we would come back. They serve breakfast around-the-clock, which is what brought me here. Breakfast for dinner is always a good idea!

What A Nice Find My wife suggested that we try The Liberty Restaurant for breakfast on an early Saturday morning. As we entered we were told to choose any place to sit. We chose a booth along the windows. The place wasn't too crowded yet but there looked to be some regulars already there enjoying their breakfast. The menu was typical of a diner and not overwhelming with too many choices. I started off with a coffee which was pretty average. The creamer comes in PC (portion control) containers. I decided to go with a skillet called The Piglet. It's a hash brown potato, cheese and meat filled skillet with two eggs that comes with your choice of toast or pancakes. I went with the toast. My wife went with the pancakes which had a light dusting of powdered sugar on them. The Piglet was filled with ham and sausage, the cheese was perfectly melted and the eggs were cooked over easy just the way I like them. I had no problem finishing this off. My wife said that her pancakes were also very good. The staff was very attentive. In fact the owner came by to check on how we were doing. My coffee was always filled without me having to ask and they kept my wife's container for hot water for her tea filled. As I walked up to pay for our meal I told the owner that this was our first time here. He shook my hand and thanked us for coming in. He then mentioned that he looked forward to seeing us back in. Our overall experience very good. The food was very good and the prices were fair not to mention that the service was 5 stars. Will we be back? Absolutely.

I am positive about the Liberty. This is contrary to one major clue which I missed at first and, when discovered, was surprised. I've decided that restaurants labeled as 'family' restaurants are to be avoided. I was looking for breakfast and saw this place and wandered in. I looked at the menu and worried: the clue appeared--a family restaurant! As you may have gathered by the stars, this place is not one that fits my negative view of family restaurants (especially Wisconsin). The décor is upscale diner (chew on that concept!). The booths and tables are newish. The service is impeccable--the recognized rhythm of the diner waitress being very obvious. And like most diners, it has the regulars (young and old) with the hostess greeting and remembering the family. I ordered the basic test for All-American breakfast places: Eggs (over easy), sausage, hash browns, wheat toast and coffee. The meal was served quickly. Eggs were perfectly cooked--nothing but luscious egg white and perfect yolks. Sausage--nicely browned and juicy when you pierce it with a fork. Hash browns browned as well, moist. Wheat toast was wheat toast (it's hard to describe wheat toast ya know?). The coffee was good and you know the other part--there was someone checking on the cup with vigilance. The waitress gave me more good news. The breakfast menu is available whenever they're open.

Delicious food, warm atmosphere and great coffee but the best part are the descriptions of food on the menu.

Delicious breakfast! I had the breakfast panini with chicken apple sausage, scrambled eggs, and American cheese, a side of hashbrowns, and a sweet tea. My bf had the mission omelet. I'm not much of a breakfast person but their food was amazing. If I wasn't just visiting I would definitely be a regular here. The staff was great! They were all very friendly and attentive.

Granted, I've only been here for breakfast, but it's the best breakfast place in the area. No matter how packed it looks on the outside, I've never waited for a table. Staff is very kind and accommodating, and I often see the owner conversing with loyal patrons. This makes the atmosphere friendly and warm. The servers are a delight and always willing to refill your water and ask you how your food is. I've only had one thing here I didn't like, and I stepped outside my comfort zone, so that's really not their fault! Breakfast is fantastic.

I've lived in the area for 17 yrs, passed the place thousands of times, and only last week finally went in for breakfast. What I have been missing! Plain and simple 5 stars...everything was outstanding. I ordered a build your own omelet, and not finding an ingredient listed I was hoping for, mentioned it to the waiter---he promptly had it added without question. The omelet was done perfectly without a hint of grease, potatoes crisp and seasoned well, side of pancakes fluffy and perfect temperature. Endless coffee, and very good service. I will be back for breakfast and other meals. If you are like me and have never stopped in, I would say give this one a try.

This place is great. I come.a few times a month with the family for brunch/breakfast and everything is delicious! I usually go for the pancakes and they have never been runny in the middle. Everyone who works here is very friendly and I feel like I'm at home here. I will continue to be a repeat customer!

Stopped in the morning, and it was VERY good. Good service, and a the owner seemed like a pretty nice guy. "Come back and visit us again soon". He said. I had the stuffed french toast. It was good. Pretty standard breakfast place, I know I saw sandwiches and stuff on the menu too. Good place to bring your grandparents after church, or before. Reminds me of somewhere I would go with my Dad (64) and my grandma (95). Great stuff

I have begun frequenting this restaurant for the past year or so. Friendly people, pretty consistant food quality, and its a nice atmosphere. I disagree with the poster claiming the prices were high in comparison to others nearby. I find them to be fairly reasonable, and if you hit the special, even more so. (The parking lot has plenty of room, and thats a rarity nowadays.) George is a great guy!

The food was good and timely. I went there on a packed Sunday and was seated right away. The service was great as well. I like the atmosphere. It seems the owner put forth an effort to have the place well decorated.

I was meeting a friend for breakfast this morning, and I was in a hurry to drive back to Minneapolis. At first, we were planning to go to Wild Berry Cafe down the road. However, the wait was ridiculously long. Gimme a break. I ate there before and it didn't deserve the hour wait for a table. Looking on Yelp, I found this restaurant not too far away. Hoping it wouldn't be a long wait, we were lucky as when we got there, the place was busy but we got a table right away. The hostess got us drinks right away and got us set up before the server could make it to our table. That was nice as I wanted coffee like you wouldn't believe. The server came, and we ordered our food rather quickly. The menu was okay and nothing much out of the box compared to your typical breakfast/family restaurant type place. I ordered the corned beef hash as it was stated as homemade on the menu. Must try in my opinion. I also ordered a side of blueberry pancake. My friend just ordered eggs and bacon and bagel. Boring. Corned beef hash was okay despite it being home made. It was rather mushy. I was hoping for the nice kind of crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside. The blueberry pancake was just okay as well. It was the fluffy buttermilk kind. They didn't have butter on the table, and they didn't put butter on the pancake either. I was waiting for the server to come back to check our food, but he never came back until I was done with my meal. If I were eating pancakes anyway, let there be butter. That was disappointing. However, it was not enough to bash the whole place. After all, the meal was decent. The service was also pleasant and just wish he would have checked the food.

The food here was decent...the service however was not at all, our waiter was not friendly at all and I felt as tho he didn't even want to take our order. Whenever we asked for something as simple as mustard he left our table only for us to see him go directly to another and never come back with the request. The owner finally brought the mustard. He was also very rude about picking up our plates, usually they will ask if u are finished and offer to take your plate...Our waiter just reached right over and grabbed my uncle's plate while brushing his arm across my uncle's chest...very weird experience. The back of the restaurant near the bathrooms also had almost a mold smell. Not somewhere we will be dining again.

The "Turkey Dinner" incident happened 11/2014. However, the date on the review is from 9/2013, I accidentally deleted my original 4 star review from 9/2013 and replaced it with the 11/2014 1 star review. The update, after a couple of weeks of back and forth phone calls, George refunded the $60 overcharge......

This place is the best breakfast around. I would highly recommend the skillets, but there is nothing wrong with the other choices. The Piglet Skillet and the Hey Jose! are family favorites of ours!

We enjoy dining at Liberty. The food is not fancy, but is very well prepared and always tasty and delicious. The service is prompt and professional while making you feel welcome and comfortable. I would describe the food as comfort food rather than trendy in any way. Breakfast is especially good, but it is usually a bit crowded on weekend mornings. Dinner time is busy but not over crowded, and the dinner special are always a treat. Say hello to the owners when you arrive, they are good folks and run a "tight ship" with long term employees.

What a great place! I haven't had less than an excellent meal since I started coming here 15 years ago. Even the oatmeal is great. I had the best omelette. Ever. How good can an omelette, or a turkey club, or oatmeal, or a dinner special be? If you are in the area, find out...

I went here for lunch and was impressed by the extensive menu. I love places where you can continue to order breakfast food throughout the day. I went with my mom and we both ordered sandwiches. I got some sort of Southwest wrap that I posted a picture of with a side of yummy mashes potatoes. It was a ton of food and I it came with a soup or salad as well. I ended up bringing home half of my wrap for later. The service was friendly. They had a little girl ... presumably the owners daughter who was helping out with menus at the front... super cute. The service was friendly and prompt. I just wish the water glasses were bigger because I think I may have worn my waiter out!

Been here a few times and the service is almost to the point of saying it's terrible. The food is okay - I actually enjoy their club or pitas and the fries are good. The breakfast is not something i would attempt again after two separate occasions. Egg Harbor and Wild berry both in the area are awesome choices! The main issue though is honestly the service. I would never return to the liberty after such awkward service and lack there of! Slow, forgetful and then defensive when you have to ask several times. Overall it has been a number of negative experiences that have led to the review and my opinion of the restaurant which is unfortunate.

I am a breakfast regular, and I highly recommend it. Try the "piglet skillet," which is one of my favorites. You will not be disappointed. In addition to the food, the wait staff is fantastic, too. There's always a level of professionalism about them. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what it is, but they remind me of the servant in the movie Mr. Deeds. Anyway, a favorite place for me to start the day. (They also have free wifi, so it's helpful if you need to check email or get any work done before you head to the office.) (Yelp filtered my first attempt at reviewing my favorite breakfast spot, so I'm reposting.)

I don't know that I've ever left a restaurant with a grin on my face before tonight. We picked this place on the fly tonight, having driven by it hundreds of times before. We were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in and were led to booth. Service was spot on -- our waiter was attentive and helpful and the bussing staff was at the ready. The owner stopped by several times to see how my husband's soup was and then our entrees. I had the Greek chicken -- nicely seasoned and served with a side of roasted potatoes and steamed vegetables. My husband had the Greek pork chops, which he said were good but not as good as my chicken. This, of course, makes me the valedictorian of dinner. We declined dessert, but our waiter appeared a minute later with two chocolate covered ice cream bars. It was such a simple thing and yet so appreciated. We made small talk with the owner as we cashed out. Truly, everyone we interacted with was joyful and kind -- there aren't enough places where that's the norm. The food was good; the hospitality was excellent.

Great place to go for a Sunday breakfast. I always get the strawberries crepes, and they are out of this world. The owner George is always going out of his way to greet people at their tables and say hello too. Overall, an awesome family run establishment.

Though the decor may look modern, this is a traditional greek family diner. It's perfect for breakfast, but the menu is huge and has everything you could want to order. Best prices and value around. The wait staff and busboys are friendly and service is top-notch. The Liberty is one of my favorite places to go with my family.

Good food - had the veggie skillet (peppers, asparagus, onions, potatoes, cheese and egg on top) which was very good. Ingredients were fresh. With that came two pancakes that were delicious! Fluffy and savory. Pricing is very reasonable. The above only went for $7 and change I believe. Good variety of breakfast items that I would gladly try upon a return. A bunch that sounded good from various categories (pancakes, French toast, scramblers, omelets, etc.). Juice was fresh also.

I am a 200+ visits veteran of the Liberty Restaurant, which would probably put me in the lowest quartile of total visits compared to the other patrons! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner - it is the "go-to" casual restaurant in Libertyville. No fancy-plate food served and no fancy-pants foodies eating here; it's real food for real people. Families, business people, high school kids, out-of-towners who by sheer luck have found the place, and seniors who wouldn't think of any other place - that's who's dining here. Family owned with family members always on site. They remodeled the dining room a few years ago and it looks good (not the normal big menu "Greek joint" look). Enjoy George's personally-chosen tunes playing in the background. The wait staff is delightful; always friendly and helpful. There are a good variety of items on the menu. Stick to the basics; fancier dishes are not their specialty. Most days there is some variation of a chicken soup, which I really like and always get, plus one other soup. Breakfast on Sunday mornings is jam-packed with people, even though several other breakfast restaurants have opened around town. They box-up take-out meals all the time. Athens omelet, pumpkin pancakes, pecan pancakes, bistro omelet, turkey wrap, club sandwich, chopped steak, pork chops, veal - all real tasty. Beer and wine only, no bar, no bartender; no TV. People go here and actually talk to each other without having to shout and without keeping one eye and half their attention on the boob tube. Try it sometime, it'll be a new experience! Want a special treat for dinner (and you're really hungry)? Say, "I want the 'Lake County's Best Chopped Steak' that used to be on the menu." Make sure the server knows what you're talking about and make sure they go to the kitchen and verify that they can still make it. Chopped steak stuffed with bleu cheese and sun dried tomatoes. You need not worry about where your next meal is coming from because after downing that baby you ain't eatin' again for a while. I like the Liberty Restaurant and I appreciate people who take pride in their business, look after it, and take care of their customers with good food at reasonable prices in a relaxed and casual atmosphere.

Give me Liberty, or give me death! Liberty Restaurant is wonderful for breakfast (I've only been here for breakfast). The inside reminds you of a neighborhood breakfast joint, but much more modern and much cleaner. The service is fast and friendly. People have their choice of numerous breakfast places along Milwaukee Avenue: Wildberry, Townee Square, IHOP, and Walker Brothers a little further south...but Liberty is cheaper, faster, cleaner, and just as good if not better than Wildberry and Walker Brothers. My most recent visit was on Thanksgiving morning. Every worker greeted us with a "Happy Thanksgiving" and a big smile. Even if they didn't want to be working that morning, they didn't show it. I love Liberty and I will definitely be back!

Spanakopita , Greek for "spinach pie" the best around, served with the perfect salad. I'm just addicted to this place and their fresh offerings from the most lovely owners possible. I recommend this place to all my friends and family time and time again. The best place to get a really good meal in Libertyville. Saganki is served flaming and table side, fresh bread, super clean. Been there close to 40 years and for a good reason. This is an example of a business who has cared enough to stay up with the times and still cater to the community it's surrounded by. Everyone in town goes here and it's a well kept place.

Ate here while out of town. Depended on Yelp for an accurate review. No one in our party of 3 liked their meal. Chopped salad with relatively no chicken. Burger that was char broiled and black on the edges. Vegetarian wrap with no roasted veggies and all iceberg lettuce. Would have liked to get dressing for the wrap because it was so dry but our server never came back. We were also without beverage refills for most of our meal. 4 stars?? Absolutely not. 2-3 stars at its best. Do not waste your money.

My girlfriend and I went there one night for dinner after doing my taxes. As soon as we were seated in our booth the owner (George) cam over and wanted to re-seat us at a nearby table thinking that we would be more comfortable there. I told him in a firm voice that we were comfortable where we were and I also said "No more moving us from table to table like he did the Friday before when we had went there for breakfast. He literally shushed us out from a table to another table because of a group of 8 people who were coming in. After he did that he shoved our table over more to the left while we were still sitting there! OK now onto the dinner part: We both ordered the fried shrimp dinner, which had a fancier name on the menu, but that's what it was: FRIED SHRIMP DINNER. The coating was slightly overdone and not light and golden brown the way it is supposed to be. It came with their version of shrimp sauce and in the sauce were small diced tomatoes mixed in on top of a bed of salad in the middle of the plate surrounded by the shrimp. There was not enough shrimp sauce, so I had asked for some additional. The waitress seemed baffled at my simple request so she brought the owner (George) over. He looked down at my plate and said "I know what you need and he brings me a small bowl of horseradish sauce. I calmly looked up at him and said "No, that is not shrimp sauce. I want the red shrimp sauce, but without the tomatoes". He replied back to me with an arrogant tone " You want Gyro sauce! That is what you want!". Now this is the owner of the Liberty restaurant! I said "You really don't want us back here anymore do you?" I said calmly but assertively. He disappeared from our table, went in the back and came back with a bowl of red shrimp sauce. I looked up at him and said "What was so difficult about getting what I had asked for in the first place?" He said "Enjoy" and walked away. After dinner he offered us free dessert so I had asked for the rice pudding. While he was getting that my girlfriend leaned across the table and said to me "It sucks!" but before she could tell me more, George came with the bowl of the stuff which looked more like a bowl of white lumpy liquid and tasted like cardboard with no sweetness nor flavor to it. We paid the bill with cash and vowed never to return.

We used to love this place, but we stopped going when the food kept slipping. The last two times I had pasta dishes that were just yuck. It's a decent place partially just because it's Libertyville without the hassle of being downtown Libertyville (often longer waits downtown, and parking to figure out) plus the menu is fairly big, but our experiences here were SO hit or miss it's hard to say that you can go in expecting a good meal everytime.

Let us be clear of what The Liberty is and what it is not. Nothing is artisanal. Kale is served in no form. Foodies would perish the thought of darkening the door. It is the place you must take your grandma when she comes to visit. The fare, while old school in variety, was delicious and did have some interesting twist. Many things, such as a steak, had interesting Mediterranean seasonings. Soups were homemade and everyone who had one raved. The staff is attentive, friendly, and proud of their place. Great for families and non adventurous eaters, but anyone kind find something and some reason to enjoy a dinner here. Oh, the free ice cream bars for dessert was a nice touch.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! Our son-in-law enlisted in the US Navy, so while he was stationed at Great Lakes, we visited a number of times. It was our great fortune to have discovered The Liberty Restaurant early on. We have been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food and service has always been excellent. Breakfast or brunch was our favorite time to go. Try one of the skillets or breakfast combos (I think they make their own corned beef hash). The coffee is excellent. You will never again want to go to a Denny's or iHop after eating here! Boot camp graduation was on Mother's Day weekend, 2012, which we thought would make it especially hard to get a table. The place was very busy, but the owner came out and made room for us right away. The menu has a great deal of variety and there are always a good number of interesting daily specials. Our son-in-law has been transfered, so we won't be visiting the area any time soon. Liberty Restaurant is one of the places we will miss most.

My boyfriend and I just moved to Libertyville a week ago. We decided to try Liberty Restaurant for breakfast. I got the down home, biscuits and gravy with eggs. It was absolutely awful. The gravy tasted like pure sour cream and onions. I couldn't finish it. My boyfriend's ham and cheese omelet was good but not great. We will give this place one more try to see if we came on an off Sunday morning.

The host (presumably the owner) isn't friendly, but he is efficient. (He looks like John Belushi might look like today.) The wait staff is fantastic. I ordered an orange juice, and an omelette, which came with hash browns and toast. The orange juice was very good, but it was warm. This didn't bother me, but it's not the way it should be served. The toast was not hot, and was slightly burned. My wife ordered pancakes. They were thick and not fully cooked on the inside. She complained, and another set of pancakes was given her. An exact duplicate was given her. Unfortunately, we won't be back.

A group of us from the GLMV Chamber have been meeting for breakfast here for years. I can honestly say we have had consistantly great service every time we have gone. The food is good and moderately priced, the service is fantastic, and the owners are very friendly. I thing this is the best family restaurant in the area.

Great little diner that is family owned. Good service, great breakfast. Not a huge fan of the dinner items but you have to know what to order. Once had the beef stroganoff and it was lacking on the sauce and beef versus noodles. Burgers are decent, had a chopped salad that was excellent and went back another time for it and it was sub-par, water at the bottom of the bowl, chicken was unseasoned and old, veggies a bit old also. The specials are usually decent as well as the "Greek" specialties and items. Go for the breakfast or brunch for sure, if you go for dinner you will get good service but know what to order.

I am actually pretty surprised by the other reviews. My husband and I are not overly critical about our restaurants, but this was the worst dinner we've had in a long time. I like to support non-chains and family-owned businesses, so I do feel badly writing this review. I felt like we were in a nursing home- both with the food and the clientele. We both had specials- beef stroganoff and Bavarian pork chop and they were both terrible. The kids had chicken fingers and those were much better. If you go here, I think you have to know what to order. Stick with lunch or breakfast items. Unless you're 80 years old or older, don't even try a dinner entree.

This is a great little diner in the Libertyville area. The place is exceptionally clean, the food was terrific (especially the soup), and the staff were incredibly nice and polite. If you're in the area, definitely give it a chance.

George and his family always treat us like family. We regularly show up with 10-15 people....no problem! Great food at a good value. Flaming saganaki, calamari, great burgers.....you can count on everything being very good....and mostly, you feel like you are home! George gave all if the girls chocolate kisses for Valentines day!

Just went back and the pancakes were raw in the middle. That's a first. I know I promised to never go back, but a business meeting was called there. The egg order with a nice fruit assortment showed up quickly. The waiter said the pancakes would arrive soon. They did and once I forked them.....RAW. This place can't even cook pancakes. Pancake batter ran from them when I forked them.

First off, just want to quickly say that this place should not be compared to most of the other area Greek diner places. The food is of a better quality, is cooked fresh, and is very close to home cooking (I am Greek, and allergic to many preservatives, so I should know.) Places like Townee Square, which I've tried a few times, are not really in the same category as the Liberty. Stand-outs, for me, are ANY soup they make, the pork chops, and the burgers. The burgers are so big and juicy. Who'd have thought you could get something like that at a Greek diner place? For breakfast I like the Belgian waffles. The owner, George, is a nice guy and will come around and talk to people to see how the food is. He takes pride in his work. If you want to impress him, order the lentil soup and then ask him if they can send over some olive oil to put in it. A drop enhances the flavor and he'll be your friend for life (that's also how the Greeks eat it.) One thing I will say that has been bothering me, is that in some cases the food lately hasn't been up to par in the way it's cooked -- for instance, some things have been overdone. This usually happens on busy Sundays or when George isn't there, but it never happened before about 6 months ago, so maybe there's a new person in the kitchen. Also I think maybe as the price of food has gone up for suppliers, possibly they've had to cut a few quality corners here and there, but it's still better than most. And the soup has always stayed the same, so if you are a soup lover, you can't get better than this place. :)

The classic Lake County Greek-American restaurant, with the full Greek restaurant menu of breakfast food, sandwiches, salads, pasta, burgers, steak, all sorts of dinner entrees, soups, and even a pie rack. If you are familiar with the jack of all trades, master of none approach to restaurants, that is what you will get here. The rent must be high, because the prices are higher than other similar places, such as the Townee Square, Gojos, The Oceana, Paragon, and countless others. The overall quality is similar to what you would expect from one of these places, and it is always good advice to stay with the simple items, or order Greek food. If you do that you won't be disappointed. Try something adventurous and caveat emptor (sorry, I dont know any apropos Greek speak).

OK, truth in advertising -- we are a bit biased towards family run restaurants because we used to be in that business. That being said, we also tend to be discerning and critical because we know the possibilities and recognize opportunities wasted. But given a choice, we always try to give local establishments first crack at our dollars, especially Mom 'n Pop restaurants like The Liberty Restaurant. We are only disappointed because we didn't have this nice homey restaurant higher on our list to try. (There are a LOT of good restaurants in Libertyville.) You will be very pleasantly suprised at how warm and pleasant the atmosphere is. There are plenty of booths as well as larger round tables for families. The lighting is subdued without being fakey romantic. The noise level is appropriate. The service is very friendly and fast without feeling rushed. Looks to me like Mom was running the dining room. Junior was handling the cash register duties and perhaps Dad was in the kitchen, I don't know. But everyone seemed to be having a good time, not unduly stressed out, just taking care of people in a very pleasant way. The clientele tends to be families with children and older folks mostly. I think that is a reflection of the good quality and excellent value. If you can dine in a nice atmosphere with good table service on a busy Saturday night, enjoy soup or salad, two entrees of above average quality and two glasses of decent CA wine for less than $40 (including tax and tip,) you can attract and keep a nice steady clientele of value conscious people. The menu is very broad, from soups, salads and sandwiches to steaks and seafood. I had the "all-u-can-eat" fish fry (Lake perch, mac 'n cheese and cole slaw) for $12. The perch was very lightly breaded and quite tasty. I added some salt and pepper to the mac 'n cheese but that is an individual taste thing. I thought the cole slaw was delicious, though I would probably have made it with less dressing on it were I making it for myself. My wife had the chopped salad. The vinaigrette dressing it is served with wasn't very flavorful but the waittress quickly brought a nice portion of ranch dressing at no cost so that was fine. The bacon bits were real, but some of them were a bit TOO crisp to be on a salad. Not a big deal, but something they could easily fix in the future. We opted for no wine this visit but on a previous trip I enjoyed a nice portion (8 oz?) of Columbia Crest Merlot for $5, which is a fair price in my opinion. I think they also have mixed drinks, thought there is no actual bar where you can go sit, so I'm not positive about that. Lots of folks around us had room for dessert, but we were full without. Our bill for the evening, including tax and tip was $27. That is over $120 less than dinner three nights earlier downtown and I really don't think the food was any better. (Though to be fair, a big chunk of that larger bill was for some nice Pinot!) So, for a nice casual meal in a very pleasant atmosphere, at reasonable prices, we highly recommend The Liberty Restaurant.

Attentive staff (my coffee cup never got empty) and the breakfast was good (breakfast panini sandwich). Good food, good service.

I can't speak to the breakfast but the dinner was fairly decent. I ordered a chicken kabob and a chicken noodle soup but both over over-salted. It seems as if they're trying to fuse american dishes with a little greek spin. I felt it was a bit overpriced although the portion sizes were average. I'd like to try it again for breakfast, maybe I'd have a better experience.

Best skillets in town. Great service, but the best part is their fresh squeezed orange juice. I miss home style cooking and homey feel and this place has it. You can tell they all enjoy what they do. Top notch service.

Great spot for breakfast. Lots of great memories here. Typical breakfast dishes and lunch dishes. Local spot...not a chain. I like that. Atmosphere: Cozy, homey etc. Feel good spot.

Came for breakfast. Good service. Got the breakfast panini with ham came with choice of fruit or hash browns. Had a good list of breakfast specials.

What a great place! I haven't had less than an excellent meal since I started coming here 15 years ago. Even the oatmeal is great. I had the best omelette. Ever. How good can an omelette, or a turkey club, or oatmeal, or a dinner special be? If you are in the area, find out...

The food is good. Overall okay prices. Service can be a little lack luster the 2 times I've been here. I may take my mom but hesitant about taking dad as he is so critical.
