Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I have been to Mama ds numerous times in the past year or so.It gets progressively worse each time. I've only had hot dogs there.I cannot speak about anything else on their menu. I ordered 4 dogs with fries. The buns were hard and dry and tasted like they were old . The pickles were limp and not fresh. The fries were not edible They looked and tasted like they were fried in 10 day old grease. Definitely will not be back to this place

Pass this place up...unless you are a fan of multiple trips to the bathroom after you digest the food. My family and I have gone there 2 times and tried the Italian Beef (meat is dry, even extra juice doesn't help). Eggplant Parmesan (according to the manager it is the "best thing on the menu - it is terrible. A saucy mess of way too much breading with"barely there" eggplant). Chicken Parmesan (so gross my kid wouldn't eat a second bite...and he eats everything) and the Pepper & Egg sandwich (tasted like rubber with salt). Both times that we went here we were running to the bathroom afterwards, will not give them another chance. The only thing decent on their menu is the packaged Italian Ice. If Mama D's made their own it would be another menu mistake.

Hit or miss. The Mama D Meatball sandwich is great. If that's all I had, I would give it 5 stars. My wife had the Chicken Parmesan and it was not good. The garlic bread that was $2 was extremely disappointing. Find what's good and stick with it.

Very good Italian sandwiches. I've had the beef, the brachiole and the signature which is like a flat meatball with red and mozzarella. The place is clean and service is good...

I live .5 miles from here! I eat here at least twice a week every time it's good food! The service is great and fast. Best beef and gyro in the area

Have yet to have a bad meal. Beef, burgers, hot dogs and BarBQ beef - all rock!!

I have passed this placed on several occasions, but as my stomach was growing that it wanted to be fed, I stopped on in. I opted for my usual hot dogs, fries and a coke. This set my back about seven and a half dollars, a little pricey in my opinion. The hot dogs were natural casing type which were nice and hot, poppy seed steamed buns, and the usual toppings. I did not notice any celery salt and the tomatoes were diced and scarcely applied. The special I ordered came with fries, typical frozen crinkle cut fries that were a little over cooked and too salty. All in all not a bad meal, the menu there offers a lot of the typical burger/hotdog places along with some Italian dishes. The restaurant is pretty clean and void of any bad smells. Seems like some of the customers new each other as they drifted in. Did not notice the television as one reviewer talked about, but they do have several coin operated games. As I sat there eating my meal, I was reading some other Yelp reviews. The one that struck me funny was the comment about the pictures mounted on the walls around the restaurant. They serve no purpose and are from a different age.

I thought the place was very good ( I had beef sandwich and fries) and I would definitely go back. Not a really large area to sit down but you can if you'd like. Price was reasonable and the food was tasty.

Best Eggplant Parmesan I have ever had! And the most personable people that work there. Great food and great service- I'll definitely be back

I've been to both the old location and the new. First, the decor is poorly thought out. Nobody digs old irrelevant movie posters. Now about the food....the menu is done cheaply. Nobody gets off on buying hot dogs around 80's movie posters. There is a "homemade" claim on many items and I'm not sure if they are even though the cannolis definitely look homemade and delicious. The beef is good. Really good, in fact. However it's a buck for peppers. What kind of beef place charges extra for peppers?! I will say the beef is good, but be sure to pay for "extras"

Mama Ds is not closed, they just moved to a new location on Archer right next to the banquet hall. I hope this is a better and more visible spot for them. I stopped in for a sandwich - it was after 7pm so I was glad they were still open. The beef was good...not too juicy and the sweet peppers were crisp. I liked their fries too..nice and hot and perfectly done. It's really convenient to have a place like Mama Ds in the area, when you don't want fast food and sit down is not an option.

Went here for lunch today to try somewhere new and was not impressed . My husband got a cheeseburger and fries . Fries were good but burger was gross. Tasted frozen and the meat was just a soft texture . The bun was seeded like BK and thin and not good . He took one bite and ordered a cheese dog which was also not good so he gave up and just ate fries . My hot dog was just ok . Kinda plain . Mozzarella sticks were standard . Cheese was hard and chewy , not melty . Will not spend our money here again .

This place is solid. I ordered a meatball sandwich and I have to admit, it may be the best meatball sandwich I've ever had. I'll most definitely be back soon.

I stopped in for what I was hoping was going to be a couple of Chicago style dogs and some fries. I ended up with two chili cheese dogs with about 12 small french fries. Chicago dogs were not even on the menu. The hot dogs were poor quality , with canned chili and that bright orange "plastic" cheese. The dogs were wrapped in paper tightly even though I was walking maybe four feet from the counter to eat. That resulted in all the cheese and half the chili ending up stuck to the paper. So I looked around for mustard ...no mustard in the place. Catsup on every table. Given the hot sticky mess before me, maybe some napkins? no napkins, you have to ask. Bright lights zero decor and a TV blasting a news station in the corner. Had I known the fries that " came with the dogs " was such a puny portion I would have bought fries. No drink all this for $6.50. Wendy's WAY better for the same $$.

Ok this review is short and sweet..get the Mama D "signature meatball sandwich" !!!! OMG it's fantastic! Meatballs are perfect and then it's on garlic bread with cheese and sweet peppers! YUM I want one now! Good Luck in your new location! Oh wait I forgot about the stuffed artichokes...WOW those are fantastic as well! Best I have had at any restaurant! If you love stuffed artichokes, you will not be disappointed.

It's a nice establishment. They have good customer service. If you are in the 127th St and archer area make sure to stop in.

This place was closed for a while and I'm so glad it's open again. I love the gyros and hot dogs, but the daily specials are usually good too. The thing I like about Mama D's is that it's food feels like a classic chicago hot dog place that I usually only find closer to where I work in the city.
