After having a not so great experience at the Hyde Park location I was a little leary about giving this spot a second chance. I must say the food was absolutely wonderful and our server Julian was attentive and fun. I will definitely be back!!

My family and I eat here at least twice a month the crabcakes are out of this world I do not drink soda but I always have icewater which never gets to the bottom of the glass as they always make sure my glasses full I can't recommend this place strongly enough as our waitress or waiter's are always prompt and fast in our food is served very fast It is my recommendation to always stop by this place if you're in the area you will not be disappointed

This place was an overall good eat. The food was phenomenal to say the least. The tasty fried chicken was perfect blended with juicy gravy and delicious mushrooms. That being said, the service wasn't as good. While the waiter was very friendly, we often were left waiting for someone to refill our drinks or something else. Still, the waiter was good and even got us sauce when he overheard us say something about needing some (we didn't ask directly). All in all, Dixie's is a good place to eat some amazing southern food. I would recommend coming here if you aren't in a rush to go somewhere.

Had a family gathering here and they allowed us to take over their back room. They hooked us up with delicious fried chicken, greens, beans & rice, johnny cakes and pink lemonade. The waiters made sure the glasses stayed full and the food kept coming. They gave us great service and good food and we were very satisfied

I went on a Sunday. The place was crowded, that got me excited because I thought the people were lining up for great food. I had the smothered pork chops. If you've ever had smothered pork chops you know they are very tender and the gravy is seasoned. Well mine weren't seasoned or tender. Nothing seemed season at all. Great atmosphere, d.j. played great music. For not great for the expectations I had.

I used to be a fan of this restaurant but after the horrible service from Melody, we will not ever return. Let me start, we arrived at 8:30 and quickly found a seat at a bar height table. I was so excited to get shrimp etoufee. Melody comes over too take our order. She lets us know, she is overwhelmed since there is a large party of about 12 people which she is servicing. My fiance and I feel sorry for her and don't make a deal about the fact that she has constantly forgot everything which we ordered. 1) we both ordered salads, but only received 1 (wait till you find out when the next salad came) 2) my fiance ordered a cocktail, she forgot, he tried to get her attention after 30 mins and finally received his drink. 3) I ordered a hot tea, you guessed out. She forgot, when she did bring it, there wasn't a spoon to stir my honey with 4) yep, when we finally received the second salad after one hour, she gave it to me again. I told her I ate my salad and that my fiance NEVER received his. 5) oh yeah, once again we did order food however she FORGOT to let us know that THEY RAN OUT OF RICE!!!!! REALLY!! 6) So after an hour she finally brought out one entree. ( I guess we were suppose to share that one) We had enough and went to find the manager. I went up to the desk and spoke with Joel. I told him about our aweful experience and the fact that we saw people that came in after us finish with their meals. He apologized and then MS. MELODY decided that she was in charge (cricket, cricket)! She ran up and confronted me regarding my displeasure with her service. I was in utter shock. I asked Joel if she was the manager. She told me she didn't care, it wasn't her fault about the rice. I asked why she didn't inform us. She stated that she had just found out. More excuses for poor service. She disrespected her manager and caused a confrontation for no reason. We did receive a I am sorry, NOT FROM MELODY BUT JOEL, HER MANAGER. He apologized for her behavior and stated that he was even shocked. Needless to say, we never ate our meal. Joel did comp our meal and the one entree we did receive. Sorry lost my appetite. I perfer to go downtown but wanted to patronize this establishment. However after this experience I will not go any further then Hyde Park.

Went there on 3/14/2015 and the experience was something I couldn't believe. I've always loved eating there but the service over the years has decreased. My catfish filet was fried so hard you couldn't even taste the fish. My red beans and rice was hard. My greens were very bitter as well as my cornbread muffin falling apart. The waiter came to my table one time to ask me if we were ready for the bill. I will not be going back

This place is a must stop! If this is your first time stopping in don't let the exterior deter you, it's a pure surprise on the inside! You almost forget where you are. Between the food, music and atmosphere you feel like you've left the hustle and bustle of Chicagoland for the slow roll of the south. Could have stayed and listened to the music all day! The food and service was excellent as well. We had the appetizer sampler plate and the catfish strips were outstanding. We ordered the fried chicken which was incredibly moist without the grease typically associated with it. The flavor was also very good. We also had the Southern sampler plate and a Po'boy shrimp. We really ordered too much food. The good news is they had to go boxes! We rarely ever take leftovers home but this time it was worth it. Bloody Mary's were simple and very well made. Overall a great way to spend a few hours!

You know what, ignore the negative reviews. Food was very hearty and healthy portions. I had the gumbo and smashed sweet potatoes. Both were seasoned well and hit the spot. My buddies both enjoyed their dishes as well. Service was friendly but food was a bit slow for lunch- yet food was good so I'll give em a pass. I would have given them 4 stars, but they serve Pepsi. You walk into the place and there are Coca-Cola antique a advertisements which are cool but Pepsi? No one in the south would be caught dead drinking Pepsi :)

I was very skeptical over eating here on the 13th of February because of all the negative comments; but Y'all this place is pretty decent. They might check their reviews to make improvements because I didn't have any of the noted issues that other Yelpers posted; then again; I stuck to cajun food, if I'm looking for jerk then I'll head to a Jamaican spot. I had a taste for some etouffee and there is nothing else in the area and although I make this dish pretty well; I did not feel like taking the time and effort into the culinary delight. What we had: The johnny cakes were neither here nor there, just reminded me of cornmeal pancakes Fried sampler ~ fried okra, fried green tomatoes, and fried catfish nuggets ~ it was enjoyable and plenty. Must note that it was not frozen which made for some pretty good okra. Homemade hot sauce stood out. Fried shrimp with double sides of baked mac and cheese ~ mainly cause it was just my 3 year old and myself and I wanted to taste the mac knowing that he isn't into sharing. The mac and cheese was tasty and cheesy. It was good. The shrimp was pretty good, just the right amount of breading; wished they would have hit them with a little cajun salt out of the fryer, but that is a personal preference. A crawfish etouffee to go - the veggies could have been smaller but again that is just a preference. I'm excited to take to lunch tomorrow The service was attentive and the staff was nice enough. The restaurant had a few patrons and I noticed the manager brought out food and made our experience comfortable. No complaints. Yelpers it might be time to revisit the Dixie Kitchen. Happy Eats!

I was a regular visitor to the Dixie Kitchen location in Hyde Park. If you go to this location expecting the same level of service and food quality then you're in for a disappointing experience. While the two locations share the same name and similar decor, that is where the similarities end. First off, the service is S.L.O.W. Not just slow but forrest gump SLOW. It's awful!!! Our waiter was nice but he had to be the worst server ever! He had to be reminded 2-3 times before he brought out our drinks and openly stated that the number of tables and the "order of them" were throwing him off. Huh? You serve tables for a living, dude!! It's not like you're running a fortune 500 company!!! Give me a break. I ordered the gumbo as an appetizer and it was pretty good. Not really like I recalled it being at the hyde park location but it was still very enjoyable. For my main course I ordered the blackened catfish with red beans and rice along with collared greens. First off, the red beans tasted like they came out of a can. Not good. They were okay but much better at the HP location. The greens were good and just as I recalled. The fish was also okay but nothing like the blackened version I was used to eating at the HP location. I also the Louisiana Lemonade which is vodka mixed with lemonade and fruit punch. It was good but was't frozen like it typically was served at the Hyde Park location. Long and short of it is that I won't make any special trips to visit Dixie again. I don't live in the area and rarely have reason to be over there. If you happen to be there and have a craving for cajun then go for it otherwise SKIP it. It's definitely not a desired destination.

I moved into the area a year ago. This was the first place I came across and it felt like home. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, and Friday nights they have classic soul night. It was very easy for this place I become a home away from home. Try the blackened catfish and the Mac n cheese!

Wonderful food here! Definitely has improved over the years. I placed an order to pick up last night after about 2 years. We had fried green tomatoes, catfish strips, red beans and rice and the jerk wings! The food was amazing!! The jerk wings were the best I've had in a while. Wonderful flavor and a must try. Looking forward to returning.

Love this place when I'm in the mood for home cooked food but don't feel like cooking. The fried catfish and greens are my favorite. Frequented Dixie Kitchen in Hyde Park before they closed and never cared for the Mac n cheese. Same for this location...UNTIL RECENTLY. Was recently pleasantly surprised at how incredible great the Mac n cheese was. It was amazing!!! Great shrimp po boy and I like the smoked Jamaican jerk wings. Love the expanded menu.

Went on a Saturday night for dinner. We were seated right away, but waited quite some time for our server. We sat in the bar area and it appeared the bartender was the only server in our area. Poor guy was running around like a chicken with his head cut off, so we gave him some slack. The food was amazing. Drinks were delicious. I had the "adult" lemonade. Yum! All in our party was happy with their meals. They had a DJ playing live music who was entertaining and would play requests. When it was time for the check, I did have to go to the bar and flag someone down to pay. Again, the poor bartender was working his ass off, so we still tipped him well. But that's the only downfall. We will definitely go again.

We saw this place and always wanted to visit it. It wasn't till we saw them on Chicago's Best that we saw we had to go. We took a family of 5. The kids ordered from the kids menu and we had ordered the cat fish and the ribs. The cat fish was really good, I'm not a big fish fan but the breading was good and not as greasy like some other places I've been to. The ribs were good and meaty but the sauce was a little too tangy for my taste. We ordered the red beans and rice, mac and cheese and fries. I didn't like the fries much, the red beans and rice were good and the mac and cheese was real mac and cheese and was REALLY good. They give you corn bread flap jacks and they were good as well. They only give you one basket free, then you need to pay for more. We went another time for lunch and this time I got the burger and the husband got the catfish again. I really liked the burger, it was big and juicy. I would go back and get that again. I don't think I would get the ribs again, but that's cause I don't really like the sauce. Other then that we liked it and will be going back.

This was a fun experience! GM Karen was friendly and very warm! The staff and music was great. We were celebrating the visit of our firend Theo from Hawaii and me and my security staff was enjoying the night out. The food was excellent and the portion size was huge!! Love the chicken and catfish!! It's addictive! will definitely return often!

OVERATED. I couldn't be more disappointed in this restaurant. What really makes me mad is that I went here instead of Maple Tree Inn that was a huge mistake. While the service was friendly it was slow and inattentively aggravating. The food was just below average and there was nothing to get happy about. I guess its my fault for ordering the jerk chicken but it had less spice than the rotisserie chicken you get at your local grocery store. The hurricane I started with was the highlight of the meal and the bread pudding was the worst I have ever had. Never again.

If you've never been to New Orleans before, and have always wanted to, then this is the place for you. If you've been there and get that urge for some cajun food, come on up to Dixie Kitchen! They have the actual Pat O'Brien's Hurricane mix and their Swamp Water drink tastes just like a Grenade. Now to the food. Everything I've tried there has been delicious. If you do make it out, you HAVE to get their jumbalaya. It would be a 5-star review if it weren't for the slow service we've received on a couple occasions. There have been times when we're practically the only table in the place is the employees were chumming in the bar. Other than that, it's a must-try.

This place could use a little dusting and remodeling.Plastic tablecloths, fold out tables and some ripped chairs. Service is super slow!. Our food was warm almost cold. The fried green tomatoes are good. The Johnny cakes are just ok. The catfish is good. The southern plate was not so good. The best thing on the menu is their Southern fried chicken! It is excellent. The waitstaff and hostess need some tips on how to look more polished. They looked like car wash attendants. Most restaurants will put their best dressed and best groomed employee as the host or hostess. No coke products.

I had a blast last night! The food was excellent; the service was wonderful, no complaints at all. They even had a live dj! I felt as if I was at the Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The fried okra is excellent, as well as the fried green tomatoes; the catfish strips, red beans and rice; collard greens, and the rootbeer pop. One of the best time that I have had in a restaurant in a long long time.

What can I say this place is awesome, and the food is sooooooo goood, it puts you straight to sleep, or you will automatically become very lazy. That's some potent stuff. Catfish, fried chicken, macoroni, gumbo, jambalaya, seasoned fries, jerk chicken, peach cobbler....can you say complete food coma...Lord have mercy!!! I love this place!

I hadn't been to Dixie Kitchen in 4 years and it is every bit as good as I remember. The fried green tomatoes are still my favorite ever. Nice and spicy, but tangy all at the same time. The gumbo is the best I've had too. It's really nice to return to a place after so long and see that it hasn't gone downhill. The service was also just as friendly as I remember. Their servers really know how to make you feel like family. The only thing I noticed that be might considered a negative is that their seating is getting very worn. Holes and tears in the fabric in the booths - things like that. Keep up the good work Dixie Kitchen and maybe I'll see you in another 4 years!

Dixie Kitchen - Lansing is not what it used to be ... I so miss the Hyde Park location. I'm considering writing a letter to Pres Obama regarding it's demise and a petition to reopen. I mean he is from Hyde Park ? The epic fails of the night included; Peach Glazed Wings with no glaze, Cold Johnny Cakes and a server who was nice but clearly she was handling too many tables. I've had better times here but this one left me pretty disappointed. Sorry I'm NOT whistling Dixie guys...

The decor is like Louisiana Applebee's - in a good way. Really fun crap hanging on the walls, so if you're there with someone boring, you can at least look at it. The food is wonderful, and there's a lot of it! I have gotten several different entrees, but I think my favorite is some spicy salmon pasta thing. Definitely makes two meals. They also have my favorite fried green tomatoes. Oh, I think I had blackened catfish with mango chutney and a side of plantains once - or something similar. Yum! Prices are reasonable.

I came here for dinner and it was enjoyable, but there were also several things that were...different that it ended up just being okay. The johnny cakes were okay, but not as exciting as people made them out to be. The fried green tomatoes while good it felt as though it was the crust that was most tasty and the green tomatoes themselves were fairly mediocre. The jambalaya was tasty and spicy though the sausage flavor was not as pronounced as I would have liked. The Gumbo was okay, but had an extremely strong fishy smell to it which while not terrible in of itself was a little off putting. The creole vegetables felt they had come out of a can or were frozen and quickly just heated without much flavor though I wasn't expecting too much from it. Ribs were okay though not as soft as one would want the flavor was decent. I'm not a huge fan of red beans and rice and their option was about the same as I've tasted in the past. In short it was Southern food that mediocre and not too memorable, but if you're hankering for some Southern food and you're up in Michigan than you could do much worse. The price is a little high for Southern food, but given it's location it's understandable.

Good food, good service, great atmosphere. For some reason it's always cold in there but the food makes up for it! I tend to call my order in because I know what I want. I feel sorry for those who don't, the wait can be kinda long. My fav is the bread pudding with rum sauce! Yum! The prices are ok, but can get up there if you are interested in trying a few things.

I have been a Lansing, IL resident for the last five years and really enjoy southern style food. I am Irish and the southern food is unique and delicious to me. Unfortunately, I started to get my food to-go because of the service when I went early in 2010. However, I recently gave it another shot and dined in. The servers were a lot more enthusiastic and the place had a cheerful vibe to it. And the food was delicious. What ever changes have been made I'm happy for them. Thanks

Had a shrimp po' boy, I liked that it was "light". It didn't weigh me down like I would've imagined a fried shrimp sammich would've done. They have a decent beer selection as well. Ordered a Purple Haze but they were out - the waiter was cool enough to bring out a few samples of other options.

Johnny Cakes...that's all I have to say. These little cornbread pancakes are pretty much the reason I go to Dixie Kitchen. I'm a vegetarian so I can't comment much on their entrees (hence the 4 stars), but the place smells delicious, the servers are always very nice, and the atmosphere is warm. The original location in Hyde Park is amazing, too.

The food is here OK, but nothing worth going out of your way for. I have had good food here once or twice, but more often than not it's just "OK" .. Their ribs were pretty mediocre... I make better ribs at home and there are places in the immediate area that have better ribs. The other BBQ I've had there was just OK as well, nothing too memorable though. Sides are good, though, and probably the best part of the meal. Last time I went here the service was really, really lousy. We had the slowest waitress on earth I think. We ended up getting up and getting our own napkins, and at the end ended up getting our own "to go" containers from a pile at the bus table. The crowd here can be a bit too ghetto at times.

Dixie Kitchen is always refreshingly pleasing whenever I go...something different from the Friday's & Chili's that plague our society. The johnny cakes are so good, but you always wish you had syrup, you know? People go for the cliched "Soul Food", but I always get the blackened Tilapia with plaintains cooked perfectly. Substitute the vegetables with mashed sweet potatoes, and a peach colada served in a mason jar. Yummy! Bonus info: if you like Dixie Kitchen try Calypso's in Hyde Park, it's a Caribbean restaurant by the same owner that blows Dixie Kitchen out the water.

I can never get past the fried green tomatos and an oyster po'boy so I can't speak for the rest of the menu! Order extra sauce. Nice beer selection.

Let me say I really enjoy this place. I've had several of their dishes and even been there on a Friday night for drinks and the different bands they have. My favorite is the fried catfish and any side dish especially the blackeyed peas or the gumbo. The jimmy-cakes are delicious and they keep them coming. The drinks are good with dinner but when I'm there for the band it's Jack and Tonic. I really love the decor and like to sit in the bait shop area. I take my girl on Tuesdays when the catfish is on special. It's a good deal.

If Friday's and Disney's Song of the South had a baby it would look a lot like this place. Lots of "flair" on the walls of old tin signs and random crap hanging from the ceiling, with one area looking vaguely plantation-ish and another like a backwoods juke joint. Food is just awlriiight. But I've lived deep in true Southern meat-and-three territory, so my standards are pretty high. Fried green tomatoes had something spicy in there that bordered on blasphemy and the gumbo was just okay. All of the fried items are heavy on the cornmeal and need a little more, oh I don't know.. lard or Crisco and salt or something fatter - kinda tasted like diet fatty food, which I am not all about. Sweet tea, just alright. The plantains though were surprisingly just out-fricking-standing - perfectly caramelized and lightly crispy on the outside with a spiced yogurt-ish dipping stuff called Montego Bay sauce - better than many I've had any where, including in Havana! They need to sell that junk by the jar. I would go back to one of their locations just for some more of that. Typical lame kids menu with few things that in any way represent their actual menu (one of my biggest pet peeves) Really excellent pecan pie, served hot with pecans all the way through and no vast hunk of jello-y part under a crust of nuts - they do this right. The meat-and-three options they offer though actually only give you two sides and a bread, which does not count as "three" - Nuh UHhh! Foul! Sorry! Calling straight up bullshit on that one!

My name is Roberto, I decided too take my wife whom originates from New Orleans, out to eat where she can feel at home. I heard about Dixie kitchen and decided to try it, from the beginning we were sat by a smiling host, and as we were looking at the menu it was hard to decide because it all sounded good. our server came quick, was very polite and friendly and was very attentive. the food was spectacular ( great job cooks ) and the vibe was just like home. The owner even came out and had laughs with us. My wife loved it and I am most certainly coming back and you should try it.

The time I went here I had a white boyfriend and he told me to get the ribs. I joked with him and asked him if he wanted me to get that to make me feel like I was at home. The dumb ass forgot I stopped eating beef so I got something else. He said the Ribs are so good they make you want to do things. I think I had fish but whatever it was that I had, it was good. Keep on Truckin' Dixie!

Where do I start first we wanted a booth there were many booths available but the hostess said that she had to go in order and didn't want to overwhelm the server Decided to eat in the bar area ordered a mai tai the bartender said it was premium liquor six hours later I had the worst headache therefore I knew it was not premium liquor ...the food was only OK I had a pork chop that was tough like leather mashed potatoes that taste like out the box fried Green tomatoes on the mushy side the peach cobbler was good though I will not be coming back thank you

This is the first time I have been to a restaurant and it was like signing a contract. What I !mean by that is read the fine print on the menu. There are a few stipulations actually marked on every page. The one that got to me was that a party of five, yes I said five, or more would have 20% gratuity automatically charged to their bill. I have never seen this set so low as t?PLPo a five person party. There was also a stipulation if you are caught sharing drinks you would be charged. OK don't think that this is a complete rant of the rules because the food was pretty good. A bit upset that a place serving Louisiana inspired dishes did not have any boudin. I order the jambalaya and it was good. I was not expecting it to be as soupy as it was because many of the jambalaya servings I experienced it was thicker and more of a rice mixture. Hey everyone has their recipes and that is part of the fun of trying new things. It was flavorful but did not have a kick that I was hoping for. After living on the gulf coast for the past gew years i like some spice. There was a fair share of chicken and andouille in the jambalaya which was nice. The portion size for $10 was amazing only made better by the taste. I also had an order of fried green tomatoes that were excellently seasoned. If you use your GPS to get here don't be frustrated. It will lead you in the right area but this place is in the corner of a very small strip mall and behind a bank which will block your view depending on your approach angle. Overall a good place to go for a bite to eat and I would make the drive to eat their food.

I love the fried fish and smothered pork chops from here. There sides are good as well. I hate that hyde park revamped everything and got rid of Dixie Kitchen. The service is not as good and I'm sure the food isn't either. The location is probably 4 times the size of the original HP location. The service is ok, you definitely have to keep reminding the service for certain request. They also have a full bar at this location with plentiful parking.

Service was slow but the young lady was serving all alone during lunch rush hour. We stopped by for our Calypso faves and were pleased to find they were as good as what we knew as the "original." I loved the atmosphere and down home feel to this place.

Food was cold AND not seasoned, then to add insult to injury the manager Karen was curt and unsympathetic. Her response was akin to calling me a liar because "they don't sell old (which she misunderstood my concern) nor cold food and found it more important to educate me on their food prep protocol for Mac&cheese and catfish batter than to ensure my satisfaction as a long time customer who is also a creature of habit and orders the SAME thing. I vow today that I WILL NOT BE BACK AND DO NOT RECOMMEND SPENDING YOUR DOLLARS HERE. This of course could have been addressed if the waitress Allicia had checked on us in a timely fashion and/or was in the area to respond to our attempts for attention from others. The waitress immediately resorted to summoning the manager without at least asking is there anything she could do. She later stated she would've had them give me another piece of fish had she addressed the concern but per protocol she had to get the manager/owner. Any establishment that does not want a satisfied customer is not one worth dining. Btw the fried green tomatoes were, as always, scrumptious.

I used to frequent when they were located in Hyde Park but since relocating to Lansing, it's a bit out of the way. Nevertheless, the food is good and if your time allows go support them. All diners receive a basket of Johnny cakes to nibble on while waiting to order. The first basket is free and you must pay for subsequent orders. As an appetizer, I ordered the fried green tomatoes. I really enjoy how the taste of the green onion mingles with the cornmeal seasoning and brings it all together. On this visit I chose the jerk catfish with two sides (plantains and collards). Only 4 plantain slices came with my order and my collards had been drained and not very much juice on them. My hostess Elantra (hope I spelled it right) gets cool points for 1. Learning what simple syrup was. 2. Bringing me some simple syrup freshly made for my iced tea. She was attentive and managed the small crowd with a positive attitude. On to the entree. The fish, although "jerked" didn't have a lot of jerk flavor. Elantra brought me a small container on the side and it did enhance the flavor. Standard order is one filet and I order two and struggled to finish the portion. The greens and plantains were cooked to my satisfaction and I enjoyed them. I took off one star for the annoying 20% gratuity for a party of 5...not 8 and the looming warning on each page of the menu about drink sharing and if they "catch" you; you'll be charged. Definitely got a giggle out of me as I read that. If you're watching me that hard that means I better not run out of anything while dining...lol

The food is good, portion sizes are generous, and the wait staff is friendly. The food is very reasonably priced, and the food is authentic cajun. It isn't very fancy, but it is clean.

This business makes plenty of money, so there's just no friggin excuse for this! Yes the food is good. Yes, it's difficult to get a seat in this restaurant, because of the constant flow of people. Everything on the menu is good. I can see why President Barack Obama loved the Hyde Park location before it closed down, but... this is clearly NOT the Chicago location! My food was actually not all the way done, but that was the least of my problems. The dishes were dirty and scratched up. I took my Mom in there yesterday and we were beside ourselves with the condition of the place. Also the staff promised to seat us at a table (because my mom is disabled) and never got back with us as we sat at the bar and eventually ate our food. Our bartender was gorgeous - bless her heart! She had the kind of body that made wives uncomfortable and husbands want to put on their sunglasses and stare. She wore a low cut top and her boobs were fully on display. Her pants were extremely tight and low cut where you could see the pelvis dimples in her hips. Personally, I found nothing wrong with it, but the stares she got from couples ha ha ha I don't know if it's a good idea for the before 6pm crowds especially older conservatively dressed women. I've dealt with those stares myself, but I think there should be a point of wearing outfits based on the shift. Later shift low cut and early shift neat. So we enter the restaurant / bar and we are talking and eating out of no where they turn on loud music! It was so loud for the rest of dinner I either had to lean over and yell in my moms ear or signal that I would just tell her in the car. The music wouldn't have been so bad if the volume wasn't so high. You go from no music to blaring loud music, why? At the end of the day as an African American woman I asked myself why are they making so much money, but won't... - fix and clean the bathrooms - replace the dishes - replace the bar stools - or etc The reason why is the patrons are mostly African American. If in spite of these things these people rate this place five stars and frequently patronize it they have no reason to invest the money to improve. I don't live in the South Suburbs, but this is the fifth restaurant in the area that I've patronized with the same problems. It would be different if the place was frequently empty, but wake up people they are telling you and anyone else who decides to eat there that you don't ask for or deserve better! I will never step foot in this place again and I'm sorry so many people like getting cut up on torn chairs and holding it since the bathrooms are under standard. You will never see a restaurant in this condition downtown or on the Northside.

It's been awhile since I've been to this place. But now I remember. And always enjoyed my visit's . I can start off by saying the johnny Cake not sure if I'm saying the name right. Lol but anyway still hot and fresh and so good and I just really enjoyed the unique butter that you get on the side. We ordered them 3 times to our table. Now when it comes to my food. My lunch was good. Lots of flavor and kick just like I wonted. The Crawfish was giving my taste bubs a good time. But it took so long for it to come to the table. Please do better with that the next time I think it was a great size portion for the price. I will be going back and will be trying some more of my back in the day From Chi Town hype park area Dixie Kitchen finger licking good smother chicken with fried Green Tomatoes. Yummy yummy And the Mac & Cheese Need I say more

Visited twice in one week. The food is that good. Each member of our party ordered different food each time and was just as blow away. I can endorse the Gumbo, Jambalaya, fried chicken, chicken wings, Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, and greens. My wife commented that the red beans and rice were a little bland, so no glowing review there, but no place is perfect. Honestly, the only reason I didn't throw 5 stars their way is that the service is heavily on the slow side. Not bad or incompetent; just slow. If the servers put a bit more pep in their step and got those jonnycakes out faster (a welcome deviation from biscuits or bread), I wouldn't be able to say a bad word about the place. Large portions, so come hungry!

After having a not so great experience at the Hyde Park location I was a little leary about giving this spot a second chance. I must say the food was absolutely wonderful and our server Julian was attentive and fun. I will definitely be back!!

Very good food & service!! :) LOVE the fried Green Tomatoes!!!..& that Jerk Chicken!??! Very Good! Love the Jerk sauce!!! ;)
(4)Sherman M.
(5)Evan V.
(4)Andre W.
(4)Oscar R.
Awesome food everything was great. Drove all the way from Plainfield. Seafood cakes are delicious. Had the sampler

This place was great! Excellent gumbo and real friendly staff. Definitely stopping in the next time I'm in town!!
(5)Pinklon T.

(1)J R.
Everything was fantastic...we had okra, cup of jambalaya, jerk chicken, Mac n cheese, corn muffin. We had great service from Joel. The decor was really cute.

Went for a private party. Catering was Delish! They have improved since my last visit .
(4)Easter L.
I will not be going back
(1)Elaine T.
(5)Chuck Z.

Happy Eats!

I am a fan of this restaurant, however I do miss the Hyde Park, location. I wish they would bring back a location to the city instead of the S. Burbs.
(4)Nikk T.
Good good, average wait time for food. Been a few times. Well be going back soon. If you want soul food, southern cooking or something in between this is the place for you.you will not be disappointed

(5)Leon W.
I just have one of the best meals I had a long time. This place has good food good service and it's very very consistent.
(5)Angelique C.
(5)Alzetta H.

(4)DeeDee T.
The food is good but the service is slow! I don't think they know how to handle large crowds, it was over 20 of us and they only had one person working!
(2)Donald H.
The service was good as well as the food.I will return.
(2)Monica G.
(3)Michael S.
(5)Bradley R.
(1)Carrie C.
(4)Alicia V.
(2)Niesha M.
The service is great, the food is even better. Try the barbecue half chicken and expect to completely fall in love with the Johnny cakes. wonderful atmosphere and is one of my favorite places.
(5)worlee g.
Dixie Kitchen delivers great Southern dishes. The food is consistent and the servers are friendly and helpful. The upgraded beer and drink selections have been a good addition.
(4)Trudy T.
(5)Keziah C.
(5)Rachael K.
(4)Faith M.
(2)Rachael G.
This place has some of the most original and unique foods for the area. I never like Catfish until I had it here. The decorations can keep you entertained for hours! :)
(5)Vedia P.
Great fried green tomatoes! Natalie is awesome. The fried baby catfish is delicious!
(5)Merrill N.
(5)Posey B.
Are you sick of the same old thing ? Stop in at the Dixie Kitchen and Bait Shop. The laid back, friendly, down home service - and the Johnny Cakes will keep you coming back every time!
(5)Anna M.
I've only been to Dixie Kitchen a couple times and both times I ordered the fried chicken. I had to share with my husband and we still had leftovers to take home! The portions are big...and soooooo delicious! I highly recommend!
(5)delwin y.
(3)Phil D.
I had the worse experience ever at this location today. Problem was only resolved after 3 hours and 2 additional visits and finally a refund.
(1)CK M.
Date Night: My wife and I had a great meal. Our server Travis was A+; great customer service!
(4)LaShawn W.
(4)Amber B.
Thanks
(5)Jose T.
(3)eliza b.
(4)Dane K.
(3)Shawn W.
(4)Kay J.
I can never get past the fried green tomatos and an oyster po'boy so I can't speak for the rest of the menu! Order extra sauce. Nice beer selection.
(4)Dianna X.
This location is much better than the Evanston one. Great food, service was prompt and friendly , and a cute atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place.
(4)Gerald H.
(4)Tina B.
