I live a few minutes away from this restaurant and it's funny to see the two reviews of the women that give 2 stars. It's really not that bad.. Let's be honest.. First, i'm sorry to tell you but maybe you SHOULD start writing home to Mom so she can explain to you that you don't order a hot dog and cheese fries at a Mexican restaurant. I honestly don't know why they offer it to begin with but come on..... It's like those Dairy Queen commercial's that advertise Chili Cheese Dogs! I've never tried them but I also will never go to an ice cream parlor and order MEAT. Customer service is excellent and food is done quick (Hence the "Express" in the name). It's a little more expensive than other's in the area but it's good. FAR and I mean FAR from Taco Bell when you're referring to Authentic Mexican food. Give it a try and stay away from the cheese fries, Hotdogs, corndogs, cotton candy or any other ridiculous food you can think of that's not involved in a Mexican cuisine. - Jack

Good food I frequent the area and saw it a few times it always looked busy thats a good sign. I ordered a torta steak milanesa and tried my wifes tacos the tacos were better shoulda got them instead but the torta was good, meat was not tough and it had a good taste it was served quickly too and I ate with 6 people (2 kids meals thogh) bill was around 45 with drinks not bad.

Very good storefront Mexican restaurant with tasty tacos (I tried two different pork and one beef -- all wonderfully seasoned) and guacamole. I can't rate the other menu items, but they all looked good. Based on type of place it is and location, I would have liked the prices to be a little lower, but that's a minor gripe. Maybe taking it down from 5-star perfection. I plan to go back for more tacos, and that's about the best recommendation that can be given to a restaurant.

For those who want good, non-greasy and fresh food... This is not the place! The cheese was old, my taco shells were hard and stale (not to mention extra greasy French fries). I don't see how this place stays so busy. Ugh! Nothing authentic about this place.

I love this place. LOVE IT! They have the best tacos in the entire South 'burbs/NW Indiana area. It's an unassuming little storefront which the owners have recently redone. This is one of those great family run places with no pretense and nice people. They have a small walk-up counter where you order and two stools along the window to eat and that's it. But don't be fooled by the sparse accomodations...they're making some really good food. I could go in depth about all the things I've tried, but it would take too long. I'll summarize as best I can. Whether it's steak, chicken, pork it doesn't matter. They rub it with spices, grill it open flame style, and serve it with awesome smoky flavored beans and rice that doesn't stick together in clumps. The flavors are just incredible and if you love good salsa/hot sauce then you need to stop reading this and go right now. They make it right there, using guajillo chiles, and it is so good words don't do it justice. You could cover anything...old shoes, your tv remote...in this stuff, and it would put a smile on your face. If you're sick of bland tacos, weak flavors and Americanized Mexican food, come here to cure your blues.

I gotta tell u dude from Highland...I so Disagree with you...They have redone the place..it's real cute inside now with an official dining area but the food is NOT authentic mexican. Yes the family and service is great..very friendly...and they do make and AMAZING GREEN SALSA...that I could put on anything...but I don't like their food. Their Mexican food is fake mexican food...it mexicans taking short cuts to save money food...it's let's get aldi products and use them in our cooking food...it's like butter flavored spray...it's so far from the real thing. I had a torta and tacos there and it was okay...not a ton of meat..nothing to write home about...no grandma's recipes .it's like Jose's shortcuts or somehting..I HATED their cheese fries...ran down there to grab some when I was prego and feening...was so upset...FAKE NACHO CHEESE..it was an oily cheap cheese..which sad to say once you've had you never forget...and we got a hotdog their once...MAYO on the BUN!!! YUCK!! Buy the green salsa their but THAT'S IT!!

Place is pretty clean. Well lite. Food is ok. Prices are reasonable. Parking can be fun but most of the time their is room. Sometimes you get chips and fresh salsa sometimes you don't. Don't dare ask the owner lady for any more fresh salsa for your food. Place is decent inside. They have a new tv display menu that is really hard to read as it changes every 30 seconds. Spend more money on safety issues then fancy big screen tv signs. They have many electric cords all on the sides of the walls for the window displays, wires held with tape and nails along side thin metal brackets.

Great place to grab a burrito, also great place to watch soccer matches Aside from the really odd table arrangement, the food is tasty, the wait staff is young and extra helpful, prices are reasonable, salsa will clean out your sinuses, and best of all I was able to watch world cup matches here! Two really cool things I liked; they have a small display at the counter where you can buy a number of different bakery and packaged items. So it is also a place where you can stock up on some of your favorite mexican candies, pastries, etc. The second thing, and I don't want to start an argument with this review about "authenticity", but I think it is pretty cool that customers can order french fries with their burrito. I know, to most people, that might seem sacreligious, but I find it really interesting... its like we are watching evolution take place right before our very eyes. Mexican food is adapting to suit American tastes, it is becoming its own artform. Especially, Mexican food on the low end... not sit-down fine-dinning Mexican food, but corner taquerilla food. I feel this type of establishment is the entry point for any immigrant coming to the country who wants to open a family business. The corner restaurant is the place where immigrant food meets local community. I think it is great to see a place that is serving good food that is also aware of the community they exist in.

I have had many Mexican places to eat most been in southern California. Where there is so many all around. Over here in Illinois this not so there is much less of them. But there still is a few choices. Now I have had better for less better food and bigger portions and better price in Southern California. However for the area this place is an OK price a bit pricey than I am used to. But the food is really good the best I've tasted so far in Illinois. And even though it's not as good as some of the places in California. It is definitely better than some. And as far as Illinois it's the best I've tasted so if you're in the area of Illinois and would like some Mexican food this is not a bad choice. I highly recommend this joint it's really good.

Great! Found this place on yelp and thought I would check it out. Ordered the steak burrito. Service was friendly and i was served promptly. I was very pleased, sizeable burrito filled with steak, beans, rice, tomato, onion and sour cream and cost around $6! Vegetables were fresh and meat was seasoned excellent! For an inexpensive burrito, this place is perfect. Oh yeah, best part... Comes with free chips and salsa!

Decent mom-pop Mexican restaurant. Ordered the heuvos Mexicanas (sp)?which is scrambled eggs w/onions, jalapeño, and tomatoes. comes with a side of refried beans, and Mexican rice. Service was decent, food was hot, price was right, around $5. It was a nice detour from tacos and burritos. I felt like I was being adventurous. Instead of eating meat on tortillas I ate eggs on tortillas. Felt like a rebel.

Food is just ok . Typical corner spot Mexican food but over priced ! I just dropped $17.00 for 5 tacos and two drinks . Better fresher options out there . The Mexican grocery store just north on Burnhan Ave has better tacos , not to mention better valve . I guess they have to pay for the fancy LCD menus

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
