'I'll have the Black Strap!' What?!? Yes. Said once at least. If not more. You ask: conversation at Westwood Bistro, post 50 Shades of Grey release? Or perhaps some reference to Outlander's Black Jack? No! No! Intriguing possibilities, but my cocktail order to start a very enjoyable meal at Westwood Bistro. The Black Strap--Dry Vermouth, Ferrand 1840 Cognac, Belvedere Vodka, Black Strap Bitters and lemon twist--5 star cocktail! We had an enjoyable evening in this somewhat hidden restaurant. The wait-staff was attentive and appropriately relaxed at this upscale Bistro-style restaurant. We ordered Wild Mushroom Fettuccini (my order) and Duck (partner's order). The fettuccini features poached chicken breast and broccolini with some Asiago cheese shavings. The dish was well executed--a bit mild for my tastes--I may go for a dish with more spice next time. The duck looked good and got positive comments. Next go round for that would be to substitute fries for lentils. The restaurant offers a wide choice of food groups for their guests--appetizers, sushi, on and on. Glancing around to other tables, the sushi looked particularly appetizing. Finished with a cappuccino that was not so fancy in appearance, but great in taste. The noise level became a challenge during the evening, but this may have been just one of those things as one group leaving, got into a boisterous conversation with another table, their friends. I understand from my partner that the location used to be a Burger King--quite a change! Black Straps and even Sushi--oh my!

My wife's sister gave us her elliptical machine for free so we decided to take them out for a nice breakfast. Originally, we had planned on Egg Harbor, but when we pulled up, everyone was leaving the building and there was a sign out front that said "Sorry, we're closed." Well, we needed to find another place, and quickly, because I had basketball practice. We got on Yelp and found Westwood Bistro. Success! They have a breakfast/brunch menu. The inside was very fancy, I don't think my basketball coaching gear was welcomed. However, there were only two other tables that were dining so I don't think they minded. Everyone at our table ordered the same thing. If I remember correctly, it was a spinach bacon omelet? Something like that. It was delicious. Perfectly cooked, generous portion, good hash browns. My only gripe was that it was an $80 bill. Four people for breakfast? I know it's Lake Forest, but wow, that is a large bill for (generally) the cheapest meal of the day. I'd go back, but on someone else's dime.

Complimentary bread and butter was good. I had the lobster and shrimp salad which was overpriced for what it was. The salad was mainly lettuce with rice noodles and little lobster. Also the shrimp was overcooked. I also tried a bite of the gourmand burger and duck entree which were both better than my salad but according to my companions, they were both a little too salty. Also got the dessert, creme brûlée and passion fruit tart which were the best part of dinner.

Food is tasty but pricey. Service is VERY slow. was there for 1.5hr to get 1 appetizer and dinner. no dessert. was on a Thursday night so not super busy. Waiter forgot one app but luckily did not charge.

First time at the Westwood Bistro. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The menu is very confusing. I am hoping that they are trying to figure out customers like and dislikes. There is a little sushi, a steak, tapas, pizzas, burgers, etc. Sushi could have been a little fresher. Smelled a bit fishy. Overpriced Steak Frites at 27 Seared 10oz black peppercorn crusted angus new york strip was cooked the way I wanted. Although, had too much fat when I cut into it. Pomme frites were too crispy and not moist on the inside. Over cooked and looked like a mountain of over cooked hash browns. Scallops were good and not over cooked. Hoping they get more feedback as I live in the area and would like to see it succeed. Thanks, Matt

First time here. Staff is great and very friendly. Service was quick and attentive. All the food was amazing with great presentation. Definitely would come back. If you are in the area I recommend this place.

Just went last night with my family. Surprised by the Asian influence most of the menu had as it is a bistro. There was even fusion sushi. We ordered the lobster and shrimp salad, the four and burger, the wagyu burger and I got the duck. I ordered the duck medium rare and the duck breast was delicous sadly nothing else on the plate was as appetizing. The lentils were cooked well but was over sauces and salted. The cabbage and lentils were both just mixes together so it was just a single mound under the duck. And the duck leg was over cooked to the point it was just stiff in some areas. The burgers were ok, nothing amazing and not worth the price and same went for the salad according to everyone else. They undercooked the wagyu burger by a lot, my dad asked for medium and it came out very rare. But the thin cut fries were tasty. Reminded me of SteaknShake fries actually.

My husband and I are Lake Forest residents and have been to Westwood Bistro four times. We have been very pleased with every experience we've had. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the wait staff extremely attentive. A few items on the menu can be a little pricey, but generally you can get some excellent values, including great sandwiches at reasonable prices. My husband loves the shrimp and lobster Po'boy, and I love the Salade Nicoise. The restaurant has a nice beer and wine selection for a small restaurant, and it's a lovely place to celebrate a special occasion. It's one of our favorite restaurants in Lake Forest.

The food here is excellent. I am shocked its average is 3 stars. Should be higher. We have eaten here three times and each time the quality was great. Good variety on menu too. From sushi to big salads to entrees. It's all good. The Gourmand burger is simply the best! The service can be slow at times but when my wife and I go out we don't mind a relaxed pace so we don't mind. Best food in lake forest.

This was our third visit to Westwood Bistro, and, again, it did not disappoint! The service is impeccable. Wait staff is very friendly and does not hesitate to share their favorites on the menu. Our waiter even guaranteed his suggestion! The food is delicious! Perhaps a little pricey, but I don't mind for a good meal and ambiance Our only disappointment this time was that we arrived at 5:45 for a 6:00 reservation to have a chance to enjoy a cocktail at their comfortable bar. When we checked in we were asked to go directly to our table, as they had reserved the table for a second seating after us. We did decline this request; sat at the bar until our 6:00 reservation, and then proceeded to our table. There were no repercussions, and we finished our dinner in plenty of time without feeling rushed...just didn't think the 'warning' was necessary.

Waited at the bar for 30 min. to be served a glass of wine. Having worked in the restaurant / bar business, I am patient. We offered a few friendly reminders, with no luck. Finally the couple next it us just left; tired of waiting. If we weren't meeting friends, we would have left too. Poor service, no music (not even radio), smelled of a stale bar. Unfortunately, we won't be back....

My husband and I went this past Tuesday for dinner. We planned to eat outside but everything was taken. We sat in the dining room which was a little dark but really cozy. Our server was so friendly and welcoming. She told us about some of her favorites and what she didn't like. I have never had wait staff be so honest about a menu. We ordered the calamari to start and it was fantastic. Lightly breaded and the sauce was so fantastic. I wanted a salad and our server recommended the nicoise and she was right it was amazing! My husband had a burger and the bite I snuck was also great. They have good local beer and wine list. We split the apple tart and it was exactly what you want; classy grandma's pie. I really enjoyed our time and we definitely plan to go back. It's a moderately priced American style restaurant with great staff and flavors.

A service nightmare. They must have the servers on an incentive plan to turn the tables. We shooed ours away a half dozen times and were still out of there in an hour. Food arrives within seconds of ordering. It's OK-to-good, but how do they get it out of the kitchen that fast? Do the owners have experience in running a restaurant?
