Had the shrimp angelica, seasoned right and tasted good, very nice venue casual and laid back.

Thinking a mediterranean restaurant would have a great Greek salad, I ordered theirs. I was VERY disappointed. Iceberg lettuce, 4 cucumber slices, 4 olives, 4 tomato slices, no anchovies, no pepperonici (as it stated in the menu) and only 2 small pieces of feta cheese. I called after I left. The lady on the phone was unapologetic. She said, that's just the way we do it. Well, I'll go somewhere else from now on.

I have been wanting to try this place forever! I had a perfect opportunity to grab a carry out from here the other night. The menu is on the small side but there's plenty to choose from! You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. They also have wine and if think beer. The wine selection is decent considering it's a casual restaurant. I ordered the hummus, village salad, chicken-ka-bob and lemon chicken soup. Everything was wonderful and even survived my 30 minute drive home. I will absolutely eat here again. I can't wait to try the other entrees!

After passing this place too many times to count, finally tried it last week because I had a taste for Greek food and didn't want to venture out of the neighborhood. Ordered the Pastitio, Greek mac and cheese type of deal, but with some ground meat. It came with a salad and bread, the salad was super tasty. But the main course was SUPER dry and stingy on the sauce...which would have helped wash it down. And I KNOW this was bad Pastitio, because I hadn't eaten in 24 hours due to a medical procedure and I was famished! Raw grape leaves would have tasted good to me at that point, but this...totally missed the mark.

Definitely a better experience then our first time here - I am glad we came back! We met our friends here for lunch and I decided on the Vegetarian Appetizer platter (dolmades, feta & olives, skordalia) and Hummus with warm Pitas. It was yummy! When we were ordering, I asked the guy a few questions about some of the dishes and it seemed like he really had no idea about the different dishes - kind of strange... Other than that - we had a great experience and everything was delicious!

Interesting set up - very similar to Panera where you order food, grab a number and sit down. However, the menu/beverages/service is all set up in a way that is like a restaurant. I ordered a pasta dish that was on special - it had capers in it so I expected it to be salty, but not THAT salty. My boyfriend ordered another pasta dish that was on special and was equally unimpressed. It wasn't bad necessarily, but it wasn't anything I couldn't make at home. I would avoid the bruschetta as well - very plain and the bread was poor and overcooked.

Husband and I were craving some Greek/mediterranean food last week, and found this place through yelp. Husband ordered the Trio Fest which came with domades, spanikopita (spinach pie), and pastitsio and was very underwhelmed. He described it as "not something you would expect from a place that has "mediterrannean in its name. The food tasted like it came from Denny's or IHOP if they were having Mediterranean week". I ordered vegetarian moussaka and was disappointed. It was just "bla". It wasn't very well seasoned and tasted very bland. Honestly, the only thing that stands was the bread that came with our meal. Sad, but true.

I worked in LaGrange for serveral years and miss it. This was one of my fav spots. I am a big fan of the lemon chicken rice soup and the insalata digornio w/chicken (advertised w/turkey but I always ask for chicken). It's a cute little casual dining place. You place your order at the counter and they bring your food to you. They serve beer and wine...bottles of beer located in the cooler which comes in handy when you want to grab a bottle or two for the train ride. I've also enjoyed the hummus, salads, garlic potato salad (another fav) and pizzas. All and all a solid place in a cute little downtown area.

The lemon chicken rice soup is good even in the summer. The appetizer dip trio is awesome. The place is cute and the staff are friendly. When eating in you order at the counter and then the waiter brings you bread and what you ordered. I enjoy eating there as it is fairly priced and worth every penny.

I am reviewing the catering because I have not been in the restaurant in probably 10 years. However we often eat their catering at work events. The Gourmet lasagna is great as well as the chicken with lemon and potatoes. I am not a lover of goat cheese or ricotta cheese and I find their food to be wonderful. As far as catering is concerned the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food that is delivered. We are repeat customers.

Just OK. I went with a group of four adults and one child. Other reviewers were right when they described the atmosphere as "quaint," "cute" and "casual;" however, the elevator muzak was a little off-putting. For appetizers, we ordered the feta cheese with kalamata olives and the bruschetta. Both were good, but nothing extraordinary. I ordered the Souvlaki--the pork had a nice texture to it, but was a little under-seasoned. Hubby got the chicken ke-bob, and we found the chicken to be really dry. My in-laws ordered the gyros pizza, which was a little bland. The highlight of the meal was the lemon chicken rice soup. Though it was creamy, zesty and satisfying on a cold winter day, after having read so many rave reviews about it, I honestly expected a little more. I found one tiny bite of chicken in the entire bowl. I did like their system of ordering at the counter when you're ready and grabbing your own ice waters -- we were waiting on a member of our party and didn't have to feel rushed to order once she got there. The value was decent for the amount of food. (Word to the wise, the pizza on the kids' meal is huge!) Anyway, if you're looking for a fast, casual restaurant that's a little off the beaten path, this one's fine.

I agree with many others about The Grapevine. I ordered the chicken kebab and my husband ordered the souvlaki kebab. Both were bland with very little chicken, which was dry. I also agree about the tatziki sauce, bland, chopped cucumbers with water. The vegetables in the pita sandwich were weird: big chunks of onion and peppers with no seasoning and there were not many of them. I have had much better kebabs at street fairs. The chicken lemon soup was ok but not as good as what you find in Greektown. Again, somewhat bland. We go to this place because friends of ours love it but the owners really need to taste their own food and make some changes. Finally, I have never found the staff here to be friendly and the prices are on the high side. Why go?

Reliably good Mediterranean food. Greek and Italian influences, primarily. Prices are reasonable for the generous portions and quality of ingredients. Walk up service is quick and convenient. We always tip our "server" at the table. Never a wait for a table, and quick and paced food service. Friendly staff throughout. Nothing negative to say about one of my favorite restaurants in LaGrange. Flavor intensity perhaps varies a bit, but nothing too intolerable. Made from scratch soups are a yummy appetizer.

This place has really been disappointing me lately. The avgolemeno soup is not as good as it used to be. The other soups I've tried have been really salty. The chicken sandwich I ordered once was dry and the avocado had one small slice on it. The tiropita I had was burnt the first time I got it. There was a sausage pasta that was good tho and that was why I gave it more than the one requisite star.

My #1 favorite restaurant when I am in the Chicago area. I like The Grapevine's cute and casual atmosphere and its well-executed cafe cuisine. We have been coming to this restaurant since it opened some 18 or so years ago. We used to live in town and I remember placing the baby's car seat in an upside down high chair. Fast forward to our post-Thanksgiving lunch last week--"baby" is a college student now! In fact, "Baby" ordered my all time favorite, the tequila lime pollo sandwich. Still great after all these years---the bread is divine, the cilantro lime mayo is fab and the chicken is flavorful and juicy. This sandwich comes with a choice of side. I used to get the potato salad---it's great with very intense garlic flavor. My husband and I used to make a deal that if one ordered it, the other did too! Husband had the sausage penne and I was lucky enough to snag a couple of zesty morsels. The sausage was very flavorful and tickled your tongue without overpowering. Teenaged son inhaled--absolutely inhaled--his super cheesy lasagna. No, he did not offer a taste to anyone, as is our custom. grr. haha. He also ate half of Aunt's chicken sand with avocado and I'm not sure what else. Grandma chose a light lunch and raved about the chicken barley soup. I had a large greek salad, which was just what I wanted after a heavy meal the previous day, and we all shared pita and hummus. I loves me the pita here. We usually order the fantastic tzatziki as well, but we just didn't have time and appetitie. Seriously, I can't say enough about this restaurant. I just love it.

Adventure Fridays have tapered off due to my daughter being employed full time. (Yay!) But my sister and I have done a few Adventure Fridays, "sisters only" and when we went here it was to celebrate her birthday. I was glad to have her with me as the ordering, getting your drinks, procedure might have been confusing. We split the frittata and the appetizer platter and both were good but what we did not split was the soup. I was thrilled to have the delicious bowl of lemon chicken rice soup all to myself. It was a nice time, we got to sit and talk undisturbed and eating the appetizer plate. I wish I had some of that feta cheese and olives right now. I would go back even if it wasn't my sister's birthday.

Went for lunch it was our first time here. I am 100% Greek and maybe that is what was so disappointing! Let's start with the not so friendly staff that doesn't Greet you when you come in, not a good start. More importantly was the food, I have never seen or tasted such BLAND DISGUSTING FOOD in all my life! The chicken ke bob was burnt and the Taziki sauce was like mashed cucumbers with water! My husband had the Pastitsio which was an overload of cinnamon to the point it was inedible! The only good thing was the bread which they were very cheep on. The surroundings and company seemed to be "American people" who clearly have no clue what Greek or Mediterranean food tastes like! Sorry to say we will not return!

This casual eatery is the perfect lunch spot when I'm with my folks - I can eat Greek to my heart's (and stomach's) content, my mom can keep it light with a salad, my dad (who is the least food-venturous of our clan) can enjoy a delicious sandwich - and everyone digs the avgolemono soup. M+D have come here together a lot over the years; my first visit was more recent. I thought by the name that we'd be in the land of white tablecloths and fancy waiters, but it was (happily) discovered to be quite the opposite. Check out the menu, order & pay at the counter, grab your drink out of the cooler, find an open table, and wait for your food to be served. Low maintenance set-up but it works, and the guys who brought our food out and cleared our plates were totally nice & professional. I was tempted to come here with the thought of lemon chicken rice soup, so I assumed I'd find other Greek dishes on the menu, which I did; I didn't realize there'd be so much Italian to choose from too, not to mention the more American-influenced salads and sandwiches. So many options! After much contemplation, I settled on the dolmades. My parents went with sandwiches - caprese for mom, roast beef for dad. We all started with the soup. Everything was delicious! I think I'll ask for a lemon wedge next time I get the soup but it was great even without the extra kick of juice.

Delicious food and friendly service. Between my sister and I, we tried the lemon chicken rice soup, feta stuffed tomato salad, and a chicken pepperonata sandwich. Everything was fantastic. We will definitely be back.

Love coming here! Order at the counter and grab a seat and they will bring you out your food. Food is always good and fresh, never had a bad meal here! Try the dip trio, the lemon chicken soup is awesome and the grape leaves are to die for......Neighborhood gem!

Delicious food, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices....what's not to like? Free parking is available on the street. I've only eaten here once, yesterday, but I'll be back to try different selections. You do order at the counter, but that's okay. The food is prepared and brought to your table quickly. The server also clears plates when you finish eating, so you can linger over a glass of wine.

I went there for the 1st time today and thought the food was really good. My husband's family is Greek so I have had my share of Mediterranean food. I ordered the Village salad and a Chicken, Feta & Artichoke sandwich both of which were really good. Great place for lunch or a casual dinner. I would definitely go back.

For my first visit, I went with 3 coworkers who could not stop talking about how much they love this place, which is in a cute little bistro type space in the heart of Downtown La Grange. It definitely has a Mediterranean flair that I found quite appealing. From the outside, it looked like your typical, sit down restaurant. However, take note that when you walk in, you need to place your order at the register, obtain a number for your order so that the server can identify you and then sit down at a table of your choice. You also have to help yourself to utensils and water (and refills), which I wasn't too excited about since I ended up sitting next to the window and then was trapped for the remainder of my meal. Regardless of this inconvenience, I must admit that this is a nice place to go if you're pressed for time but want a meal that will leave you feeling satisfied. I chose the Tequila Lime Pollo sandwich and potato salad as my side. I wish I had read reviews before going in and ordered the wildly popular Lemon Chicken soup. I opted for the potato salad and was sorely disappointed. Typically, I love garlic. No such thing as too much garlic...until I had the potato salad here. After forcing myself to take 2 bites, I just couldn't eat anymore. I was worried that no amount of gum would take the edge off my breath and I still had a whole afternoon of meetings to attend. But the sandwich saved the day! It was a marinated grilled chicken breast served with fresh avocados, tomatoes, red onions, romaine lettuce, and jalapeño monterey jack cheese, served on chiabatta with a cilantro and lime mayonnaise. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! I am happy I took their recommendation to heart and ordered it. The chicken was cooked to perfection, the lime mayo added an unexpected tang to what would have been a boring chicken sandwich and the ciabatta just rounded it all off to a combination of flavors that were married to perfection. The next time I go, I will try to explore other options on the menu if I can somehow tear myself away from the Tequila Lime Pollo sandwhich. Oh, Ill also be sure to skip the potato salad and order the Lemon Chicken soup, and grab two glasses of water to avoid any headaches!

I did not have a good experience at this restaurant. I went in with my children for a casual meal, the owners were rude and seemed to not enjoy the presence of my children (aged 7 and 9 and well behaved). The bathrooms were dirty.

The Grapevine is one of those great neighborhood restaurants you can always count on and there is nothing else like it in downtown La Grange. You can eat in or carry out, nothing fancy, great food, not overpriced. The jalapeno sausage and Mediterranean sample platter appetizers were excellent. Our group had the lemon chicken rice soup, Greek salad, frittata and potato gnocchi specials, eggplant exohiki, spinach and mushroom pizza and kreatopita entrees. Everything was hot, fresh and very, very good! Throw in a couple of bottles of wine and OOPAH!

The Grapevine has become one of the "go-to" spots when we're looking for a place to eat in La Grange. We stopped in again yesterday for dinner and had a great meal. Grapevine, although Greek, does have a nice lineup of Italian pasta dishes and pizza. Yesterday, my wife had the Penne Carbonara (Chicken, ham, roasted garlic, tomatoes, peas, in a romano cream sauce) and I had a dish from the specials menu (I wish I could rememer the name - arrgggh) that included chicken, roasted tomatoes and garlic, in a tomato-based sauce served over cheese tortellini). Both dishes were hot, perfectly done, and delicious. We started our meal with Grapevine's hummus, whcih is ALWAYS good. A lesson that I've learned is not to visit Grapevine near closing time. Our visit prior to this one was not the best - I ordered the Trio Fest (spanakopita, dolmades, pastitsio) as I often do. However, it tasted as if they had taken the items from a cooler, slapped them on a plate with some rice, drizzled sauce over it, and heated the plate to a barely-edible temperature, When you arrive earlier in the evening, everything tastes made-to-order and fresh. This is an interesting restaurant in that you stop at the counter to order, then grab your own drinks (bottles of soda, glasses of ice), and select a table. Warm greek bread is brought out (nice touch), and the food follows pretty quickly thereafter. Perhaps this isn't the perfect ambience for a date-night dinner where you expect great table service, but it's nice.

Great place! Service was quick and food was very good. I got the portabella sandwich which was phenomenal (and I've had my fair share of portabella's). It was also very reasonable. Highly recommended!

Great place to take friends and family to. The service model is a little like Portillo's where you order your food and then find a table to sit at but the food is of course quite different than what you'll find there. Everything I've tried has been good, the atmosphere is nice (but can be crowded during dinner rush), and the prices are fair. Definitely recommended to try at least once.

I'm a fan of Mediterranean food and this place does a good job so we keep coming back. I really enjoy the Chicken Ke-bob with the Village Salad. We tried the Mediterranean Dip Trio and the Chicken Riganati and it was sure to please. Next time maybe I'll try the soup everyone's raving about and a different sandwich just to mix it up a bit. The service is great - no complaints!

I can recommend The Grapevine with some reservations. While The Grapevine does many things well, it is only partially successful overall in creating a Greek-Mediterranean bistro. Food: Let's start with one positive. The egg lemon soup is outstanding, a must-order item for any new customer. The other appetizers are unremarkable. The salads are not at all bad, but they are unremarkable. For example, the garlic potato salad appetizer is tasty, and made fresh, but it can't compare with that offered at Emilio's Tapas. I would guess that the Grapevine version is a recipe that would appeal more to the customers who tend to prefer more traditionally American recipes. If so, then the Grapevine dish is something like a fusion product. Scanning the menu from the web site, the reader can see the Greek-Italian fusion type orientation of the restaurant. Indeed, the traditional Greek appetizers do not have a true ethnic taste (avgolemono soup excepted), which, perhaps, is by design. The Grapevine created its own salads and appetizers to go alongside the ethnic dishes. I have had the Mediterranean Dip Trio, the Village Salad, the Dolmades, and the Taramasalata (no longer offered, it seems). The entree menu contains more Greek and Italian sounding item names. Like the appetizer items, the recipes are a fusion of Greek or Italian with American. The entree menu is also on the web site. I have had the lasagna, the pastitsio, the spanakopita, the dolmades, the trio fest, both moussakas, and the eggplant exohiki. As with the appetizers, these entrees were all pleasant tasting, but unremarkable. The sandwich menu (there are daily sandwich and dinner specials too) has some good offerings for a reasonable price. I have had several of the sandwiches (mushroom, ham and brie, rustica, caprese and the panini) and most are pretty good. I have tried the pizza a few times. It is not one of my favorite items at Grapevine, but it is certainly worth a try if any of the pizzas sounds interesting to you. The pizzas are ok. Ambiance: The Grapevine has a dining area, but basically the restaurant looks like a delicatessen with tables set up in the waiting area around the display case. This feeling is reinforced by the interior decoration and design. Items for sale are shelved all along the back of the store in the area of the display case. Some of the inventory, such as cheese, is in the case itself. Customers order at the counter, are given a number, and the order is brought to the table from the kitchen. The tables and chairs are wooden. You can order wine with a meal. There are a handful of tables outdoors, but the lack of an awning or low barrier around the patio makes it unappealing to eat a meal outside. Price: Prices are in the moderate category, but they are a bit high for value received. An entree plus appetizer (or soup or salad), dessert and coffee can easily run $25/person. This is the cost of eating in a delicatessen with half-service for the meal, not in an upscale bistro environment. So, overall the Grapevine is a mixed bag. It created its own identity as Mediterranean fusion, but most of the dishes are unremarkable. The sandwiches, however, are pretty good, and the avgolemono soup is one of a kind. The Grapevine is somewhat like a bistro, but also a deli/grocery, with a deli's ambiance. Yet food prices are those of an upscale bistro. It so happens that Grapevine makes for a great carry-out dinner because you can eat it at home rather than in the restaurant. It is also a fine (but high-end) lunch choice that offers good sandwiches.

Another little gem in downtown LaGrange! Been going to this place for years, we randomly stumbled upon it one day while searching for someplace new to have lunch. The best thing on the menu? The lemon chicken rice soup!! I would come here for this alone!! You seat yourself, and order at the counter, and your food is brought to your table - along with a loaf of delicious bread! Yes, it's mediterranean food, but the menu has many, many options. I've had pizza, pasta, and sandwiches here and they've all been great. On my most recent visit here this past Saturday, I decided to try the chicken kebob pita- grilled chicken, onions, veggies, a perfect pita and the most AMAZING tzatziki sauce! I'm so in love. I'm actually craving this again as I type. We also tried their bruschetta this time, which is a garlicky delight piled high with perfectly seasoned tomatoes. Loved it! Grapevine is closed Sundays :( - but please check this out Monday through Saturday! You will not be disappointed- great food at decent prices in an excellent location - can't go wrong!

This place is one of my all time favorite places. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. The Lemon Chicken soup is TO DIE for, best I've ever had. The dip trio is delicious. I've also gotten desserts from there, and they are awesome as well. I do not have any negative thoughts about The Grapevine. It's outstanding. I wish I could go there more often.

I have been going here since it opened. If you haven't been here, the way that the ordering is set up could seem sort of weird. You stand in line. At night or during lunch hour you will probably have to wait. This is not too bad because it gives you time to look at the menu. Then you order. If you order something from the cooler, you can grab a glass filled with ice, and then go the cooler to pick your drink. Then you find a seat and put your number on a stand. The complimentary sesame bread and butter is a nice extra. My favorites here are the daily frittata, lemon chicken and rice soup, shrimp angelica. My family likes the pizzas and the kebobs. The frittatas are always good with a mixture of different veggies, cheeses and sometimes meats. The lemon chicken and rice soup is so creamy and better than others I have had before. When I want to splurge on creamy-ness I have the shrimp angelica the sauce has romano cheese mixed in. The shrimp is also nicely cooked, not over done. I used to love the potato salad but they have changed the recipe so it doesn't have as much garlic so it just takes like sour cream. One time I tried the pastitsio, because they were out of frittata, but it was not for me. It was basically like a higher level hamburger helper with macaroni, cheese, and ground beef. Ok, but not something I would go out to eat at a place with much better offerings.

I don't get the love of this place. It is a mish-mosh of random menu items. Pizzas (which do NOT taste fresh), mediocre pastas and some Greek items. Nothing was really remarkable.

We've been dining at the Grapevine for 10+ years. We carry out, dine in, and it's also where me meet to catch up with our friends. In all of the different dishes we have tried, we have never had a "bad" meal. My favorite is the Eggplant Exohiki; this meal takes a longer time to prepare, but it is definitely worth the wait! The lemon chicken rice soup is DELICIOUS, even on a hot day! I like that the Grapevine as a comfortable atmosphere. You order your meal and drinks at the register and your food is then delivered to your table. Your wine is given to you immediately at the register and you get your own water (with or without lemon) or other drinks from the "cooler" and stay as long as you wish. I have never felt rushed to leave my table. The servers are friendly and accommodating. The owners are family-orientated and always welcoming. Wonderful authentic Greek cuisine!

This place is interesting. Kind of confused when you walk in the joint. Ordering, and the whole getting up for water every few minutes stinks. Self serve, not into that when I am trying to enjoy my meal. I forgot what my friend ordered, but my salad was sooo watered down, it wasn't rinsed right. I mean, when a salad is made badly...that's just laziness. I would never go there again.

Absolutely love Grapevine. The ordering system can be confusing if you aren't used to it, but it's really not a big deal. Look at the menu at your table, go order at the counter, they bring it out to you. Easy. The Spanakopita (sp?) is delicious, as are the dolmades appetizers. I always have a hard time choosing my dish since there are so many great options, including a variety of vegetarian choices. I will keep coming back!

This was my favorite Mediterranean (or maybe any) restaurants for many years growing up in the Chicago suburbs, and I have a deep-seated need to stop in at least once when I find myself back in town. I swear to you that literally nothing about this place rates poorly - if anything, the only problem I have is how incredibly popular the restaurant's grown over the years. Ingredients are consistently fresh, new items appear on the menu relatively often (there is also always a list on the counter of daily "specials," which always end up tasting excellent), and 9.7 times in 10 the servers are very quick and attentive, which you don't often find with order-at-the-counter type setups. Other things that I adore: *Most dishes come with the choice of a side, which includes the options of their olive oil-based pasta salad, greek salad or avgolemno soup, all of which are YUMMY *They (without fail) serve a really great crusty white bread with every meal - they give you butter but there's also olive oil on every table - and they also always give you bread when you carry-out *They make their own pita (served warm). It's very, very good with the feta cheese spread, hummus or on any of their sandwiches (including my biggest fixation, the insalata del giorno sandwich, which includes tomato, avocado and ample provolone cheese - mm mm good) *Pizza selections are all similarly delicious, including my very favorite, the four-cheese *The take-out process is quick, easy and painless So that's my rave review. In terms of Mediterranean fare I haven't found anything comparable here in DC, and I always look forward to my next time back.

This is another place I'd give 3.5 stars. I agree with the previous poster. Some of the things at Grapevine can be hit or miss, but the lemon chicken soup is excellent! No matter what I always get that! I've usually get the chicken kabob and they give you more than enough food with the chicken, veggies, side salad, and pita bread. That is one of my faves. I've also gotten the dip trio and my favorite part of that is definitely the pita also. One day during lent, I got adventurous and ordered the smoked salmon penne from the menu. It was a healthy portion, probably something you can share with another person. The sauce was a little thicker and a bit oily than I thought it would be and the salmon had a bit of a "fishy" smell. But I enjoy coming here because the service is great and the people are friendly. Plus I don't know of any other Mediterranean places in the area. We go there every couple of months when we have a craving for that kind of food.

Lemon soup is great and so is the Moussaka. A little pricey for the quality, casual environment, and service. This is a good place to go for lunch if you want something nice but casual.

The Grapevine for me has had its ups and downs over the years. The one thing that is consistent and you can count on is the lemon chicken soup. It's fantastic! I revisited the Grapevine today at lunch and I got the homemade hummus. I didn't care for it much with the exception of the pita bread, which was soft and warm. I also got the Tequila Lime Chicken sandwich, which was good. If you stop by definitely get the Lemon Chicken soup which is an optional side on most meals.

One of my favorites in LaGrange. I don't think I've anything here that I didn't enjoy (though the potato salad that came with my sandwich the other day was WAY too garlicky...and I love garlic). A few favorites: the Marche pizza, the tequila-lime pollo sandwich, the lemon-chicken soup, chicken kebob, village salad, and the bread that comes with every meal is delicious. Their sandwich specials are usually good as well. I like that this is a place where I don't always have to order the same thing, and the portions are generous enough that I can usually make it last a couple of meals (especially the pizzas).

One of my favorite restaurants in La Grange. Grapevine is consistent and I like to think it's healthy. Their meal selection is diverse and they have daily specials. My favorite is the souvlaki- pork kebab on a soft pita with roasted vegetables and tzatki sauce- this comes wtih a side- the Lemon Chicken Rice Soup is my pick(sounds weird, but it's surprisingly good and addictive) Hands down my favorite restaurant in LaGrange.

When I first started doing lunch here, i was put off a little by the prices. For me an $8-10 lunch should be a little infrequent, since out here in the burbs it seems like a luxury. But having tried numerous soups, salads and sandwiches off the menu, I gotta say this place is actually a really good deal. For starters, everything comes with a toasted loaf of french bread. Nice and crusty too. I usually pour some of the olive oil (on the table) onto my bread plate instead of butter (the only way really unless the butter is fresh, olive oil is healthier and tastier). The salads are big, and inventive. The sandwiches are pretty yummy and good sized too. No skimping here, and with lots of fresh ingredients. Try the portabella! Side salads are usually pretty good, though sometimes over dressed. If you want a really big and hearty lunch meal, get a sandwich, get the soup instead of a salad, and enjoy the bread. Tons of food. I honestly prefer to go here now when im really hungry, its that much food. The beverages are a little steep, but if all you're gonna get is soda, don't. Just get some water, its free after all. They have a nice wine selection too, always welcome with a good meal. This place is charming, tasty and definitely worth the indulgence.

This Place truly is a restaurant I go back to time and time again. Family owned the food is always fresh and prepared pretty much to order. I have not had a bad meal yet. Sam the owner is the nicest Greek man I always see him there testing the food and soup and making sure everything is up to par. My favorite thing and a must every time I go there is the lemon chicken soup. They have the best I have ever had, and I love Greek food!! So it says alot that Sam's avgolemono soup is my go to comfort food. I grab in sit down and order it to go! A must try along with all other items on this Mediterranean menu!

We have been here at least a handful of times. It is usally on the short list of restaurants that I like to go to in downtown La Grange or in the area. We have tried a variety of stuff, including some of the salads, a fish special, a sampler, etc. All of our meals, with the exception of one, have been very tasty. It is a very casual place and a nice, not too expensive, mid-week or Friday night option. Seems like an affordable place to bring a family. I don't mind the whole ordering set-up, but I tend to be a little slow to figure out what I want. They also have a pretty nice and affordable wine selection. We were introduced to one of our favorite wines, Gnarly Head, at the Grapevine. I think I am going to have to try the lemon soup that everyone has reviewed.

Been a fan of Grapevine for many years and I can honestly say we have never had a sub par experience at Grapevine. Order at the counter and grab a table if you can and your food will be out quickly. Great little place.

This place is never bad, always amazing. Whenever I go here I usually get the portobello sandwich, which is delicious. Actually, I think I've been here three times and have yet to get something different, just because it's too good. Sometimes I try to go out of my way to go to LaGrange for something, just so I have an excuse to go here. I think the atmosphere is cozy, and I like how you can eat outside if you choose. It's a very casual place, no waiter service, almost like a Noodles and Company type of thing where they give you a number after ordering and then bring your food. Everyone there has always been super nice. I find myself craving this place all the time, but just don't feel like making the 40 minute drive out there. Anyway, I'm envious of everyone who can go here all the time, because if I lived closer, I'd eat there a lot more often.

There are times when you just want a simple, unpretentious meal. No table cloths, snobby patrons or exorbitant prices. Especially after a long day...week...month?! Well, yesterday was one of those times for me. After a week of meetings with my boss, her boss, his boss...talk about stress!? ...I needed to decompress and my friend suggested a long drive in his convertible. Isn't it nice to have friends like that? Oh, I digress! Off we went...wind my hair and all that. When we got hungry, he suggested this little place. Now, for all his taste (fab clothes, terrific car, beautifully decorated condo), he has the worst taste in food. Really. He is normally a "greasy spoon" kind of guy. Maybe that's how he can afford the above listed items? Anyway, I was afraid the Grapevine would be another one of his hovel-like restaurants. To my surprise, it wasn't! It was really very sweet and cozy. Lots of great food selections, from pizza to pasta and a myriad of Greek dishes. Not to mention an OK beer and wine selection. I had the Inferno pizza. It was not the best pizza I've ever eaten (Turoni's of Evansville holds that title), but it was quite good. Nice mix of crunchy sauteed veggies, real chicken and a bit of a flavor kick from cayenne pepper. What made this outing even more fun is that La Grange is a really quaint village/town/city. Fab little boutiques, chocolate stores, and that sort of thing...perfect for a nice stroll after dinner...

Went here a second time and got some veggie sandwich and the person i went with got a chicken sandwich. I was so embarrassed that i recommended this place to her. My veggie sandwich was HORRIBLE the bread tasted OLD and it made me literary sick to my stomach. The chicken sandwich that my friend had gotten was PINK! Which is completely unacceptable. Needless to say we threw our nasty food out along with $25 and went someplace else!

This place is "good". I have a problem with their serivce. They usually have two people at the counter with only one wanting to help out. They have one bus boy running around delivering everyone's food. On a crazy day they have what I can only guess to be their dishwasher helping with the delivery of food! Do not go there on a busy day or you will have to wait forever and day until you get your food! As for the food, it's good but not great! I actually do happen to like their hummus with pita and their hummus/pita is what brings me back! They also have a good shrimp and pasta as well as a vegeterian lasagne. But like I said it's good but not great!

My friend and I ended up here for a "pre-martini drinkin' in the burbs" dinner. I grew up in La Grange but haven't spent much time there since I left when I was 18. If I remember correctly, we were there on a Friday night and there was a decent crowd. You order at the counter and then find a table and a server will bring out your order. The restaurant was very cute. The menu was extensive and I had a hard time deciding but I settled on some lentil soup and a shrimp couscous dish. The soup was good and the couscous was ok but the shrimp wasn't very tasty. It was kind of rubbery. My friend had pizza and I liked that much better. Overall it was a fine experience for a quick dinner and I would return should I find myself in downtown La Grange again.

I've been going the Grapevine for about fifteen years, and the food is consistently fresh and above par for the price range. The people are friendly (especially Roman) and the service is great for what it is. Just know this is not a full-service restaurant, you order at the counter and grab a seat and one of the wait staff brings your food out to you. You get the drinks. If you need something, just ask, the servers are more than happy to help out. I don't understand the review that called Grapevine expensive. Their gourmet pizzas are enough for two, and most of them are around $9. In short, the food is inexpensive, tasty, fresh and healthy, the service is friendly and good, even if not full service. The atmosphere is really nice and unpretentious. If these things are important to you, the Grapevine is definitely worth checking out, and in my opinion, it's one of the best places to eat in La Grange.

Love this place! I've been going there since H.S. I love the homemade Avgolemono soup. The sandwiches are my favriote thing to get here. I really like the Insalatao Del Giorno Sandwich. They also have vegetarian dishes. Carry out is also an option.

This is one of my favorite places in La Grange. I have never had a bad dish. This place seems like it is more of a lunch place, but I love going here for dinner. They do not have waiters, and I can see how that might put some people off. Plus when you come in you have to take a menu and figure out what you want kind of quick if there is a line. This is not what you would expect from a place that is around $15 a person with a drink. On that note, they do have a nice variety of beer and wine. I love this place!

Every time we have eaten here the meals have been very good. My wife has lunch here every other week and loves it. Make sure to go early on the weekends b/c it gets crowded. Get the trio platter with 3 types of Greek dishes (quite good).

Went there for lunch this summer with our vendor. Ordered the hummos. BIG MISTAKE -- no one else had (obviously) ordered it in awhile and it was fermented!!!! I kid you not, bubbly on the tongue in the way champagne should be. Champagne yes, hummos no. We sent it back, they did take it off the bill. Unfortunately I was so traumatized that I can't remember anything else I ate.

Another place that is easy to overlook. Located across the street of the north side of the Burlington tracks in downtown LaGrange, this place is another little treasure. The Grapevine has a variety of dishes from the Mediterranean, although I am partial to their Greek dishes. Their Greek dishes are extremely tasty. They have some Middle Eastern cous cous and hummus and Italian pizzas and pastas. I haven't tried any of these yet, except for the hummus and I would have to say stick to the Greek foods. Try the skordalia (cold garlic mashed potatoes, yum) or the taramosalata (fish roe dip, yum 2x). The hummus wasn't very good. It was too wet and didn't have a good flavor. I ordered it one time for my family, and they didn't touch it. They love hummus. But they did like the skoralia and the taramosalata. And I agree with my fellow Yelper...try the avgolemeno soup. It's yum 3x!! For more sustenance, try the spanakopita (spinach pie) which is served with rice. Or maybe the Trio Fest which contains pastitsio (macaroni casserole), spanakopita, and dolmades (stuffed grape leaves). The Hub LOVES the kreatopita which is a casserole containing ground beef and lamb, potatoes, onions and kaseri cheese in phyllo dough. This dish is really, really good. Everything is cooked fresh and served hot, and the eating area is very clean. With simple and quaint decor, it's really a pleasant place to have a bite to eat.

We have been regular customers at the Grapevine for years. It was our "go to" restaurant on Saturday evenings when we wanted to go out for a simple dinner & couple glasses of wine, upon our return from trips when I didn't feel like cooking. I've met friends there. My husband & I have met friends there. We told people it was one of our favorite restaurants in LaGrange. NOT ANY MORE!! We went there this evening after I picked up my husband from the airport. We ordered two appetizers -- bruchetta & appetizer trio & two glasses of wine. The bruchetta came -- it was delicious. Then the waiter brought over the second item. It was the sampler salad. Not what we ordered! When we complained, the waiter sent over the owner. The owner said that is what we ordered. it was on the receipt and she trains her staff to read back the order. The owner implied that the fault was mine because I apparently didn't listen closely to make sure the cashier had the correct information. The owner stood there and argued with me & said that she wasn't going to remedy the situation because she has to make a profit. Well, not with our patronage! At 55 years old, this was a first for us! With an attitude like that, I hope we will soon see "out of business" on the door!

Went to the Grapevine and what a disappointment. We ordered the kebab's, and pastichio. First of all, ordering in that place is so awkward. Standing at a counter where nobody was there to take the order, so we thought if we sit somebody will come to the table. Anyway, however we got the order in it finally arrives and the kebab was nasty green, dry and all gristly. We call a staff member over and show this to him, his response was everybody complains about it! So they replaced it with some sort of chicken sandwich. The pastichio wasn't bad, but what I don't get is everything came with rice, Rice, RICE and the pastichio even came with Greek potatoes. Pastichio is a macaroni dish, STARCH, rice, STARCH, potatoes, STARCH!!!!!!!! The only thing you get a ton of is RICE! Who created this menu? Very awkward from the get-go, won't be going back.

Been going here since they opened, about 17 years ago and it is still one of my favorite places! You order at the main counter area, and you are given your wine immediately (big plus!) Julie M's review is right on about the process. The Spanikopita tastes fresh every time - at other places, it seems like it was in the pan too long and is flat and just limp. In the Trio Fest, the Spanikopita is served along with Pastitsio and Dolmades. Pizzas are good, rustic and not overloaded with any one ingredient. Salads have varied, as if they have stuggled to find a good produce source (just my observation). Staff is exceptionally warm and attentive, without being intrusive. The old building is comfy/inviting and as close to the LaGrange Rd train station as it could be. Best source I've found for Greek Honey - not cheap, but on Greek Yogurt, it is perfect (1/2 block away at Trader Joe's, you can buy Greek-style yogurt.)

I am a regular here and can't say enough about how much I love it! I have yet to try something that I don't like. Nothing on their menu disappoints. The food is delicious. Vegetarian options abound. Service is top notch and the smiles are free. The hummos is to die for. I am trying to think of something even remotely negative in order to balance this review, Oh, sometimes it's really crowded and we have to take our order to go.

I really wanted to like this place....and I think if I give it another try on another day at another time, I might just give it a extra star. A friend and I went there for a early dinner before a movie. It is so cute and small. You order at the counter and sit and they serve you. You can purchase beer and wine in a help yourself kind of way. The place is small. In fact it almost seems like they could have maximized the space better because the front counter is like in the middle of the place. They serve authentic mediterranean cuisine. I read reviews on yelp prior to going and people said the lemon chicken rice soup was a good choice. I thought it was a little too runny for my taste. I've had better and in the suburbs, not greek town. I though Chicken Kabobs would be a safe choice, but I was wrong. Anyway, I think if I go when it is less crowded I might have a better experience and go back. The place is small and cramped and seems better suited to the lunch crowd.

This place is always good. I can count on it. I have tried just about everything on the menu and have not found anything that isn't prepared well. They have a good selection of wine, the service is fast, and they don't mind how long you stick around -- good place to meet friends and chat for a while. The prices are reasonable, the location is great (right across from the train station), but the parking can be a bit tough depending on the time of day. I am a regular and have never been disappointed.

i love these types of no-frill restaurants; exposed brick and wood beams, the sound of trains roaring past, tumbleweed on the ledge, a kid in spider-man pajamas who says, "i already ate." (little does the kid know what he's missing...it's the owner offering any snack he wants.) it's a place where they bring your food to the number on your table after you're fetched your own water with lemon. and while you start to think it's another noodles and co. (which is very fine), it's not. it's much better. it's a homeslice. that's why i give it 4 stars. very good mediterranean food. flaky dough kinda stuff. if you need a waiter hovering over you, prefer an $8 glass of wine or fancy food that comes with sticks, this is not the place for you.
